According to the informed military sources in Afghanistan, the airstrike was carried out in Sangin district of the province.

have not commented regarding the airstrike and the deaths of three holy warriors so far.

Helmand is among the volatile provinces in South of Afghanistan with some of its districts witnessing daily violence due to the insurgency led by the Taliban group.

In the meantime, both the Afghan and coalition forces conduct regular ground operations and airstrikes to suppress the anti-government holy warriors who are continuously attempting to expand foothold and insurgency in Helmand and other restive provinces in the South.

Two Afghan journalists killed in attack on radio station
[DAWN] Two journalists were shot and killed when button men stormed their radio station in northeast Afghanistan, officials said on Wednesday, underscoring the dangers faced by news hounds in the war-torn country.

The pair, both men in their 20s, were bumped off inside the studios of Radio Hamsada, a private broadcaster based in Taloqan, the capital of Takhar province.

Nobody has grabbed credit for the attack and an investigation was underway, provincial front man Jawad Hejri told AFP.

"Two unidentified button men entered the radio station's office at around 6pm on Tuesday. They opened fire on two news hounds who were behind their mics during a live programme. Both news hounds died at the scene," he said.

The attack is the second this year in Afghanistan targeting journalists, and comes as diplomatic efforts to end the 17-year war have intensified.

Last month, Afghan citizen journalist Jawid Noori was snatched from his car and murdered by the Taliban

US Military Conducts Two Airstrikes In Southern Somalia
[RADIOSHABELLE] US forces have carried out two precision Arclight airstrikes against al-Shabaab
... Somalia's version of the Taliban, functioning as an arm of al-Qaeda...
in Somalia over the past 48 hours, United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) said in a blurb on Tuesday.

"In support of the Federal Government of Somalia’s increased efforts to degrade al-Shabaab, US Africa Command conducted two airstrikes in separate engagements in the last 48 hours," AFRICOM said. "These precision airstrikes support Somali partners’ ongoing efforts to reduce al-Shabaab safe havens, degrade the terrorists’ infrastructure, and destroy terrorist equipment."

The first airstrike on February 3 targeted forces of Evil in the area of Gandarshe, in the Lower Shabelle Region, AFRICOM said. The second attack on February 5 targeted the vicinity near Leego, in the Bay Region, it added.

"At this time, it was assessed no civilians were maimed or killed in either airstrike," AFRICOM said.

Al-Shabaab emerged in Somalia in 2006 and has claimed numerous terrorist attacks throughout the region. The group has sworn allegiance to the al-Qaeda.

Iraq
Peshmerga, Iraqi Army form committees to start joint ops in disputed areas
[Rudaw] Through five subcommittees, the Iraqi Defense Ministry and Ministry of Peshmerga are ever closer to joint operations and deployments in the disputed territories upon a decree from the Iraqi PM.

An edict from Iraqi Prime Minister Adil Abdul-Mahdi’s office has ordered the formation of a Supreme Committee and five more, locality-based sub-committees, giving the Iraqi committee authority for forming joint operations, joint rooms, joint work and coordination in the disputed territories between Peshmerga and Iraqi forces, Lt. Gen. Jabbar Yawar, Peshmerga ministry secretary general told Rudaw.

The first step is for the sub-committees to do a "field survey," by designating areas where joint Peshmerga-Iraqi forces are needed. This will detail what forces need to be in a specific area, the locations of joint operation rooms and troop levels.

"We settled on the decision to notify the Iraqi federal government that we are ready for such coordination and partnership for those Kurdistani areas outside the KRG to preserve their security..." added Yawar.

Many Kurdish families have fled homes and farms in the disputed areas because of armed gangs ‐ some believed to be ISIS remnants.

The events of October 2017 and Peshmerga withdrawal destabilized the security of the disputed territories.

"Now, the Iraqi Federal Government has come to the realization that what they did [on October 16] was wrong," he claimed.

"We will together work, God willing, with our brothers in the Ministry of Peshmerga. Peshmerga is part of the Iraqi National Defense Apparatus," Brig. Gen. Yahya Rasoul, spokesperson for Security Media Center of Iraq’s Joint Operations Command, told Rudaw.

The meeting on Monday in Erbil between Peshmerga Ministry and Defense Ministry officials was for "all that is related to joint work," added Rasoul.

The subcommittees were to eliminate possible "difficulties" between them improve coordination.

"We have to work together to confront the terrorist enemy, ISIS terrorist gangs and its remnants," asserted the spokesperson, using another term for ISIS.

ISIS holy warriors remain in the mountain ranges of Makhoul, Hamrin and Qarachogh.

"In all these places, there has to be total coordination with our brothers in the Ministry of Peshmerga," added Yawar.

On Tuesday, the Iraqi PM said there is "unprecedented" cooperation between the Iraqi Army and Peshmerga. This could well spell the beginning of Peshmerga return to the disputed territories.

The Peshmerga have previously been open to working with the Iraqi Army, but have no desire to work with Hashd al-Shaabi and the Federal Police.

Many Peshmerga and Iraqi Army officers attended military college together in Baghdad and have professional relationships which predate what has been described as unprecedented cooperation between the two forces during the liberation of djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
in 2016 and 2017.

Gaza rocket hits Israel, IDF tank fires at Hamas position in response
[IsraelTimes] Alert sirens sounded Wednesday evening in a number of Gazoo border communities as a rocket launched from the Strip went kaboom! in an open field in southern Israel.

The projectile reportedly fell in the area of the Sha’ar Hanegev Regional Council. There were no reports of damage or injuries in the attack.

In response, an Israeli tank opened fire on a Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth", position in the southern Gazoo Strip, the IDF said in a statement.

Earlier in the evening, a rocket fired from northern Gazoo toward Israel failed to clear the border and landed inside the coastal strip, according to reports in Hebrew-language media. There were no reports of damage or casualties in that incident.
Congrats, Gazans — you’re batting 0.500 on actually hitting the country you’re aiming for.
On Wednesday morning, the Home Front Command tested emergency alert sirens in Jerusalem and some nearby communities.

Ahead of the test, the IDF said that its system tests and exercises are not connected to any particular incident and are often scheduled months in advance.

January saw two rockets launched from Gazoo into Israel, neither of which caused damage or injuries. In both cases on January 7 and 12 the IDF responded with strikes in Gazoo.

Policeman hurt, civilian killed in ambush in Thai south
[Bangkok Post] A police officer was severely injured and a civilian killed in an ambush in Narathiwat province on Monday night. Concealed gunmen opened fire from the side of the road as the officer rode past on his motorcycle in Sungai Kolok. Another man who was riding by at the same time was shot and killed.

The ambush was set near the entrance to a police outpost. Pol Sgt Muhammad Faisal Mayakor was shot in the leg and fell from his bike. He suffered broken bones and abrasions. Muhadmah Fa-is Jaekor was hit in the stomach and died shortly afterwards in hospital. Police, soldiers and a bomb disposal unit inspected the scene Tuesday, and found nine spent M16 cartridges.

Pol Col Supakorn Puengrot, head of Sungai Kolok police, blamed the attack on militants and said it was well planned. There were two teams -- one fired the shots and the other scattered nail spikes on the road to deter pursuit. Pol Sgt Muhummad Faisal had just left the outpost and was heading to downtown Sungai Kolok when he was attacked. Mr Muhadmah Fa-is, a cook, was returning home in the opposite direction and was caught in the gunfire.

Meanwhile, an Internal Security Operations Command Region 4 spokesman, Pramote Prom-in, said a probe into a car bombing in Songkhla on Janurary 8 had been expanded and that Zakariya Samae, a religious teacher and former suspect who had been released, was in custody again. Mr Zakariya recently confessed to taking part in the incident and another bombing in Hat Yai in 2014.

Armed men blow up gas tanker truck in Iran, policeman killed: Mehr
[AlAhram] A policeman was killed and another seriously maimed after gunnies blew up a tanker truck carrying liquified gas in northwestern Iran early on Wednesday, Mehr news agency reported.

Police approached two men at a petrol station in the town of Dareh Garm and the men began shooting at the tanker, the agency said.

There was a "horrific kaboom" which blew out windows in nearby buildings, Col. Seyed Ali Mirahmadi, the deputy police chief of Iran's northwestern Lorestan province, was quoted as saying.

The report gave no information about the identity of the attackers, or what happened to them.

Several members of Iran’s security forces have been killed in recent festivities with snuffies on Iran’s eastern and western borders.
Ynet adds:
Authorities later said five suspects were tossed in the slammer
Drop the rosco, Muggsy, or you're one with the ages!
State TV quoted Gen. Mohammad Mahdia, police chief in western Lurestan province where the shootout took place, as saying the suspects belong to two different groups. He did not elaborate but said an investigation was ongoing.
