[DAWN] An Afghan official says the Taliban have attacked a third provincial capital in less than a week, with an overnight assault on the western city of Farah.
Provincial Governor Mohammad Shoaib Sabet said there was no immediate word of casualties early on Friday and that airstrikes have been carried out against the militant group.
The growing violence comes as a US envoy said he and the militant group have reached a deal "in principle" on ending America's longest war.

[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Six suspected holy warriors were killed on Thursday in a shootout with police near the Bahariya oasis southwest of the Egyptian capital, the interior ministry said.
Police carried out a dawn raid against "terrorist elements" in a desert area near Bahariya, roughly 300 kilometers (190 miles) southwest of Cairo, the ministry said in a statement.
A shootout led to the death of six suspects, the ministry said, adding that a number of hunting rifles and four assault rifles were found at the site.
Extremists have launched several attacks in the vast desert area west of the Nile.
In November 2018, an ISIS ...embracing their inner Islamic Brute... attack killed six Copts and an Anglican after they left the Saint Samuel monastery west of the Nile in Minya province.
ISIS carried out another attack nearby in May 2017, killing 29 Coptic pilgrims, many of them children.
Tourists have also been killed in attacks, but the violence has mostly targeted police and soldiers.
In February 2018, the army launched a nationwide offensive against krazed killers, focused mainly on North Sinai, where the ISIS has a significant presence.

Customs Investigations Manager Bruce Berry told The News Agency that Dare Not be Named on Friday they believe a sophisticated Canadian narco mob is behind the shipment. He said they have been tracking two Canadians for several months who they believe were sent separately to New Zealand to receive and sell the drugs.
Two Canadian men in their mid-20s and one New Zealand man have been arrested and charged with importing and possessing methamphetamine. They each face a maximum sentence of life imprisonment if convicted. Berry said international criminal organizations are looking for new markets and New Zealand has proved attractive to them.
[Daily Mail] A prominent Swedish lawyer who represented A$AP Rocky in his Stockholm assault case has been shot in the head and chest in an 'ambush attack'.
Henrik Olsson Lilja was leaving his apartment building in downtown Stockholm shortly before nine this morning when a gunman approached and shot him.
Neighbors saw a person wrestle the lawyer in a stairwell, before the shooting and gave Olsson Lilja a phone to call the police, who have since arrested several suspects.
A woman, also a senior lawyer, who was previously banned from contacting Olsson Lilja is among those arrested, but the shooter has been identified as a man.
'One person has been arrested as a suspect for the attempted murder attempt' a spokesperson for the prosecutor's office said.
The gunman swiftly jumped into a waiting SUV and sped off and the lawyer's condition is unknown. He is still at large.
Olsson Lilja first represented Rocky when he was first taken into custody after assaulting a man who was harassing him and his team on the street, but he was replaced before the trial began.
It is not known if the shooting had any relation to the US rapper's case.
[DAWN] Indian authorities booked a political leader and activist from occupied Kashmir ...a disputed territory lying between India and Pakistain. After partition, the Paks grabbed half of it and call it Azad (Free) Kashmir. The remainder they refer to as "Indian Occupied Kashmir". They have fought four wars with India over it, the score currently 4-0 in New Delhi's favor. After 72 years of this nonsense, India cut the Gordian knot in 2019, removing the area's special status, breaking off Ladakh as a separate state, and allowing people from other areas to settle (or in the case of the Pandits, to resettle) there.... , Shehla Rashid, under sedition charges over her tweets in which she had said that Indian armed forces tortured civilians and ransacked houses in the disputed territory after its special status was revoked, The Wire reported on Friday.
Rashid, a leader of the Jammu and Kashmir People’s Movement, called the charges "frivolous, politically motivated and a pathetic attempt to silence" her.
The activist had been a prominent student leader in the Jawaharlal Nehru University and had served as the vice-president of the students’ union there.
She was also charged for spreading "fake news" with the intention to "malign the image of Indian Army", police told PTI on Friday.
Last month, Rashid took to Twitter and in a series of tweets alleged that Indian armed forces entered houses in Indian Kashmire at night and "ransacked" them. She also alleged that they "interrogated" four Kashmiri people in a camp in Shopian.
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Israeli forces rubbed out two Paleostinian teenagers including a 14-year-old boy during protests along the Gazoo ...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It is currently ruled with an iron fist by Hamaswith about the living conditions you'd expect. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response... -Israel border on Friday, Paleostinian health officials said.
They named the dead as Khaled al-Rabai, 14, and Ali al-Ashqar, 17. Seventy protesters were maimed, 38 of them by live fire, medical officials said.
An Israeli military front man said that troops guarding the border were faced with more than 6,000 demonstrators at several points along the fence, some hurling bombs and Molotov cocktails.
He said that some briefly managed to cross the fence before returning to Gaza, and that Israeli forces responded with riot dispersal measures. The front man did not comment on the deaths.

Israeli exceptionalism - in the rest of the world Allanbeasts kill more humans than vice versa.
MANILA (Reuters) - An explosion at a public market in the southern Philippines wounded at least seven people early on Saturday, the fourth blast in that area in 13 months, the military said.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the blast, but a militant group operating in the mostly Christian city of Isulan in the province of Sultan Kudarat was among the suspects, military said.
The latest blast comes at a time of heightened tensions in the volatile southern Philippines after three incidents in the past year authorities said were suicide bombings by militants linked to the Islamic State.
Video footage showed Saturday’s blast occurred in a parking space for motorcycles. A suspected improvised explosive device was placed beside a parked motorcycle, Major Arvin Encinas, a regional military spokesman, told reporters.
In April, a bombing by suspected members of a pro-Islamic State militant group injured at least 18 people in a restaurant in Sultan Kudarat in Mindanao region.
Mindanao is troubled by banditry and armed rebellions that keep large parts of the region mired in poverty and instability.
Islamist militants operate in the south of the predominantly Roman Catholic nation country and some are known to have links with groups abroad, including al Qaeda and Islamic State.
[ALMASDARNEWS] The Iranian oil tanker, ADRIAN DARYA (previously Grace 1), that was previously detained in Gibraltar has allegedly offloaded its cargo in Syria, the Middle East Eye reported.
According to the Middle East Eye, the ADRIAN DARYA offloaded at least 55 percent of its cargo, a similar claim made to al-Masdar from a Lebanese journalist that asked to remain anonymous.
The journalist added that the cargo on the ADRIAN DARYA oil tanker is worth approximately $130 million (U.S.).
At the same time, a Syrian source in Damascus told al-Masdar that the oil was delivered using several small ships. He said the ships later moved the oil to the Syrian port-city of Baniyas in the Tartous Governorate.
Earlier this week, the ADRIAN DARYA was tracked off the coast of Baniyas; however, its fate was unknown at that time, as there were reports that it was heading to both The Sick Man of Europe Turkey ...the occupiers of Greek Asia Minor... and Leb.
Another Iranian ship named the SAVIOR was also tracked off the coast of Syria before it turned off its GPS. The vessel’s destination was supposed to be Port Said in Egypt.
[ALMASDARNEWS] The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) arrested a senior member of the Islamic State (ISIS/ISIL/IS/Daesh) in the eastern region of Syria this week.
According to the Xeber 24 news site, the SDF arrested Niru Sariva during an operation inside the city of Baghouz in the Deir Ezzor Governorate.
Sariva, a Portuguese national, was reportedly a commander of one of the Islamic State’s foreign battalions in eastern Syria before his capture by the Syrian Democratic Forces.
Xeber 24 noted that Sariva was the commander of ISIS’ foreign militants’ battalion and was in charge of abducting and executing Westerners in Syria.
The 33-year-old Sariva who had been residing in London before joining the ISIS was also one of the most important elements of the ISIS in exercising the terrorist group’s forced recruitment plans.
The recent arrest of this terrorist commander comes at the same time the Syrian Democratic Forces continue their combing operations in the eastern region of the Euphrates River Valley.
[ALMASDARNEWS] For the second night in a row, an intense firefight broke out between the Turkish-backed militants and Kurdish-led forces in the Aleppo countryside.
According to reports from northern Syria, a fierce clash broke out between the Turkish-backed National Liberation Front and Kurdish-led People’s Protection Units (YPG) west of the strategic town of ‘Azaz in northern Aleppo.
No casualties or advances have been reported by either side.
On Thursday evening, a similar firefight took place between the NLF and YPG; it would end with both sides ceasing hostilities during the wee hours of the morning.
Despite the recent implementation of the safe zone agreement in northern Syria, there has been little peace between the Turkish-backed rebels and YPG in the Aleppo Governorate.
The Turkish authorities consider the YPG and Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) to be terrorist entities that are offshoots of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK).
The Turkish military and PKK were involved in a long war that eventually ended towards the end of the 20th Century.
