[LIBYAREVIEW] On Saturday, the Presidential Council of the Libyan Government of National Accord (GNA) decided to appoint Salah al-Din al-Namroush as Minister of Defence. Until now, al-Namroush had been serving as the Undersecretary of Defence.
This appointment came during the Council’s meeting headed by Fayez al-Sarraj, in the presence of deputies Ahmed Maiteeq and Abdel Salam Kajman, in addition to the members of the Presidential Council Mohammed Amari Zayed and Ahmed Hamzah.
The Council also decided to appoint Lieutenant General Mohammed Ali Ahmed al-Haddad as Chief of the General Staff of the Libyan Army.
On Friday, the Presidential Council decided to suspend the Minister of Interior, Fathi Bashagha, from his duties and ordered an investigation on him to be conducted within the next 3 days.
It is noteworthy that the Head of the Presidential Council of the GNA in Libya, Fayez al-Sarraj, announced his intention to conduct an urgent ministerial reshuffle in response to the demands of protesters.

[Jpost] This slow process of ISIS radicalization has taken place for a year or more.
Three years after ISIS appeared to be on its last legs in Iraq and Syria it has seized a city in Mozambique. The city is called Mocimboa da Praia and now there are fears it may have a foothold that is growing in the country.
This slow process of ISIS radicalization has taken place for a year or more. However it was largely dismissed as fear mongering. Now the group has infiltrated and some are concerned that it may be on the cusp of a larger offensive. Much like in the ISIS offensive in Iraq in the summer of 2014 the attacks in southeast Africa have displaced hundreds of thousands. There are questions about how the port city might be re-taken by security forces.
The port now affects the whole of Cabo Delgado province. This is in northern Mozambique. The International Committee of the Red Thingy has warned of a humanitarian crises that may grow. While some still argue that ISIS is not actually causing or driving the war here, but it is instead just inequality and poverty, the kinds of images from Mozambique look like the same Islamist insurgencies in Nigeria or Somalia or other areas.
While the international community is distracted by COVID-19 and major powers like the US no longer play a role in coordinating efforts like concentrating on these kinds of emergencies, ISIS can thrive in the margins. It has done the same in the Philippines and across the Sahel in Africa. It preys on weak states and ungoverned areas. South Africa is the major regional state that could intervene and turn the tide. It is unclear if it or Tanzania or Kenya will do more.
[DW] Tensions in the Norwegian capital came to a head when an anti-Islam protester ripped pages from the Koran. Police used tear gas to keep rival groups separated, arresting nearly 30 people.
Clashes broke out at an anti-Islam rally in the Norwegian capital of Oslo on Saturday, prompting authorities to end the event early.
The rally, organized by the group Stop Islamization of Norway (SIAN), took place near the parliament building.
Hundreds of counter-protesters also gathered, banging drums and chanting "No racists in our streets," reported news agency DPA.
The situation came to a head when a female member of SIAN ripped pages from the Koran and spat on them, news agency NTB reported.
The woman, who has previously been charged and acquitted of hate speech, told counter-protesters: "Look, now I will desecrate the Koran."
NEARLY 30 ARRESTED
Clashes then erupted, with counter-protesters throwing eggs at SIAN members and attempting to jump police barricades.
Some counter-protesters also began kicking a police van and climbing on the hood of the vehicle.
Authorities used pepper spray and tear gas to keep the rival groups apart, eventually ending the SIAN rally early.
Police arrested 29 people, several of whom were minors, Norwegian public broadcaster NRK reported.
The protest in Norway comes on the heels of a similar incident in the Swedish city of Malmo on Friday, where protesters clashed with police after right-wing Death Eaters burned a copy of the Koran.

The Italian coastguard sent help on Saturday to a rescue boat funded by street artist Banksy after the vessel issued urgent pleas for assistance, saying it was stranded and overloaded with migrants colonists.
The coastguard said a patrol boat dispatched from the southern Italian island of Lampedusa had taken 49 of "those considered most vulnerable" among the 219 migrants colonists on board.

[NBC] Nine people arrested by police in Kenosha, Wisconsin, for allegedly being outside agitators were in the city to distribute food to protesters, a director of the nonprofit kitchen said Saturday.
Jennifer Scheurle, who serves on the board of directors for Riot Kitchen, based in Seattle, said Kenosha police were mistaken when they arrested the volunteers Wednesday for investigation of disorderly conduct.
"We’re not there to stir up anything," Scheurle said. "We just want to feed people. We support protesters of any kind."
The nine were released from jail Friday on about $150 bail each, paid with the help of donations, she said.
The Kenosha Police Department said it focused on three vehicles associated with the group after receiving a tip from a citizen "alerting us to several suspicious vehicles with out-of-state plates."
Officers and U.S. marshals surveilled the black school bus, food truck and minivan and moved in for arrests when the suspects attempted to fill gas cans with fuel at a gas station, the department said.
The driver of the minivan "attempted to drive away," Kenosha police said, and when officers caught up with it, they "forced entry." In video posted to social media and shared by Scheurle, police are seen breaking a minivan window after one officer shouts, "Get the [expletive] out."
Police said they found helmets, gas masks, fireworks and "suspected controlled substances" in the vehicles.
Kenosha police are under scrutiny for the potentially debilitating shooting of Jacob Blake, which set off three nights of violent protests, and for allowing a teenager accused of fatally shooting two demonstrators walk away from the scene.

[KING5] People going by the Seattle Police Department East Precinct on Capitol Hill will notice some big changes to the building, including the installation of concrete barriers. Over the next several days, the precinct will be undergoing structural upgrades in an effort to "protect the facility from arson and other damages" as well as protect officers inside and residents who live nearby, according to a statement from city of Seattle officials on Friday.
The Seattle Police Department (SPD), Seattle Fire Department (SFD), Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT), and department of Finance and Administrative Services (FAS) are in charge of the upgrades.
The changes come following a busy week of protests in Seattle. On Monday, a fire was set outside the East Precinct and a group of people allegedly used quick-drying cement in an attempt to seal the doors of the precinct shut with officers inside.
An Alaska man was arrested and charged with arson in federal court for allegedly starting that fire.
The structural changes are similar to those that have happened at the West Precinct downtown, also to protect the building from damage by protesters.
Officers will continue to be stationed in the precinct and respond to 911 calls in the area, officials said. The work happening around the East Precinct is expected to wrap up this weekend.

[WASHINGTONTIMES] A Black man is charged with a hate crime after allegedly yelling "Black lives matter" before stabbing a White victim in Colorado Tuesday night, police said.
Steve Anthony Sinclair, 30, is charged with attempted first-degree murder and bias-motivated crime after allegedly stabbing a 29-year-old White man during an apparent dispute at an apartment complex in Aurora.
An officer with the Aurora Police Department arrived on scene about 6 p.m. Tuesday when Mr. Sinclair, who is Black, approached the officer while repeatedly stating, "Black lives matter," according to police documents reviewed by KDVR.
The responding officer said Mr. Sinclair admitted to stabbing the victim and called himself a "psychopath," the documents said. He allegedly repeatedly refused the police officer’s orders, but was eventually arrested without incident after other officers arrived on the scene.
The victim reportedly told police that Mr. Sinclair shouted "Black lives matter" before stabbing him.
The victim suffered from a collapsed lung but is expected to survive, CBS 4 reported. A GoFundMe campaign for the victim had raised more than $3,000 as of Friday morning.

[WCCORADIO.RADIO] The morning after more civil unrest struck Downtown Minneapolis, businesses are assessing the damage to their property and starting to pick up the pieces. One of those trying to figure out what comes next is Kam Talebi, owner and CEO of Kaskaid Hospitality, the parent company that owns Brit's Pub on Nicollet Mall, along with several other restaurants incuding Crave, Union and BLVD.
Talebi spoke to News Talk 830 WCCO's Mark Freie outside of Brit's Thursday morning where looters broke into the building, eventually starting a fire inside the complex. Talebi tells WCCO the pub is devastated.
"It's pretty extensive, unfortunately," says Talebi. "And you know, they got into the building, lit it on fire. Thank God it didn't spread throughout the entire complex, but, it's just completely ransacked. The entire building. Got upstairs, downstairs, office, computers, TV's, liquor. I think they might've just pulled up here with their cars and unloaded the business. So it's just, it's disheartening, sad. This is such an institution to look at the building and this state of disarray is just surreal."
Talebi heard about the damage happening Wednesday night, but says law enforcement didn't respond soon enough to protect their property. They were able to evacuate their staff in order to keep them safe.
"We heard that the building up broken into, and then we called 911 and reported it," says Talebi. "And they said, well, we'll get to it as soon as we can. A couple hours later, about 11:30, is when the building caught on fire. Call the police, called fire. We'll get to it. I mean, there's not much we can do, unfortunately. Thank God we got the staff out quickly. It was not safe to be able to come inside the city as a whole. I think that the police were really focused more on, you know, 9th through 7th (streets) where Target is, and left this area sort of unattended."
Following the George Floyd protests and riots, and the issues that have continued to plague Minneapolis, Talibi says the safety of customers is a major concern.
"We live in certainly interesting times right now and, you know, I hope that the leadership of the city government at the end of the day understands and hopefully addresses, number one the safety of the residents here in Minneapolis. It's unfortunate, businesses are truly impacted. We've got 80 employees right now that are out of a job. Until there's a plan to be able to secure the city, and rebuild it's image, we hear from customers that they don't feel safe coming downtown."

[MinneapolisStarTribune] A 22-year-old Minneapolis woman who failed in her bid to join al-Qaeda and subsequently tried to set a series of fires at St. Catherine University’s St. Paul campus in 2018 pleaded guilty Wednesday to federal terrorism charges.
Tnuza Jamal Hassan admitted to one count of attempting to provide material support to a designated foreign terrorist organization at her former school’s campus in St. Paul.
Hassan also faces arson charges in Ramsey County in connection with trying to set fires in six buildings on the campus. Hassan admitted to setting the fires months after she tried to fly to Afghanistan to join al-Qaeda.
According to Hassan’s plea agreement, when she was a freshman at the university she drafted an anonymous recruitment letter that encouraged others to join the terrorist group and delivered it to two other Moslem students.
A forensic psychologist told the court that she upgraded Hassan’s diagnosis from schizophrenia to a "mood disorder with a psychotic component" after earlier symptoms disappeared under medical observation and despite Hassan declining medication.
In September 2017, she bought a round-trip ticket without her family’s knowledge from Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport to Dubai and another ticket from Dubai to Kabul, Afghanistan. She said Wednesday that she had no plans to return to the United States but instead wanted to join al-Qaeda in Afghanistan. However, there's more than one way to stuff a chicken... she was stopped from continuing on to Afghanistan because she was not aware that she needed a visa to enter that country.
Hassan lied to Sherlocks from Customs and Border Protection and the FBI about writing the recruitment letter, but she did tell agents that joining al-Qaeda was the purpose of her attempted trip to Afghanistan. As part of her plea agreement, Hassan acknowledged Wednesday that while she did not plan to be a fighter for the terrorist group, she wanted to lend her support "by other means."
Hassan again left her family’s home on Jan. 8, 2018, without their knowledge, and moved into a St. Catherine University "dorm lounge" without the school’s permission. She stayed there until Jan. 17, when she tried to set fires in six buildings at the school. In her plea agreement, Hassan said the fires were set "as a retaliatory act against the United States for its opposition to [al-Qaeda] in Afghanistan."
Hassan’s attorneys declined to comment on the case on Wednesday.
U.S. District Judge Patrick Schiltz scheduled Hassan’s sentencing for Dec. 17. Her charges carry a possible 20-year maximum federal prison sentence and lifetime supervised release.
Hassan was deemed competent to stand trial earlier this year. At a December 2019 hearing, a forensic psychologist told the court that she upgraded Hassan’s diagnosis from schizophrenia to a "mood disorder with a psychotic component" after earlier symptoms disappeared under medical observation and despite Hassan declining medication.
When the agents interviewed Hassan, she admitted she wanted to join al-Qaida, saying she thought she would probably get married but wouldn’t fight, prosecutors said. She allegedly told investigators she guessed she would carry out a suicide bombing if she had to do it but that she wouldn’t do anything in the U.S. because she didn’t know who to target.

The international protest movement against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu took a step forward on Saturday, when simultaneous demonstrations were held in 18 cities around the world.
Each of the cities went live in a scheduled order and gave over to the next city, culminating in Jerusalem.
The international protests, which attract mainly Israeli expats, show solidarity with the thousands protesting in Israel for Netanyahu’s resignation and for what the protesters see as saving Israeli democracy.

During the round of broadcasts from city to city, the protesters around the world sang songs and shouted slogans like "Bibi quit, we don’t want you anymore" and "Bibi, go home!"
Some of the protests attracted more than 100 people while others were very small. The demonstration in Copenhagen appeared to be just one man.
At the Miami demonstration, a pro-Netanyahu counter-protester came and shouted at the demonstrators. He was forced to leave the scene by police.

The Black Flag protest group dismisses the police statement and as “ridiculous” and accuses the Jerusalem police force of not withstanding pressure from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Public Security Minister Amir Ohana.
“We’re here to clarify that there are no extremist voices calling [for people] to harm officers or riot. There are voices calling for the removal of Netanyahu as prime minister. The Israel Police should start defending the protesters and not the corrupt,” the group says.
