Baltimore Math Professor Who Sold Grades for Cash Gets One Year in Jail
[JohnathonTurley.com] Prof. Edward C. Ennels taught math at Baltimore City Community College but appears to have been offering a running lesson on supply side economic theory. Ennels reportedly was selling grades on a sliding scale depending on your worth and your ambition: $150 for a C; $250 for a B; and $500 for an A. He has now earned jail time after pleading to 11 misdemeanor charges, including bribery and misconduct in office.

According to prosecutors, Ennels, 45, would go as low as $300 in this elastic grade market. Moreover, he was hardly shy about the scheme. He reportedly solicited bribes from 112 students. His rate of return was just under ten percent. With 10 payments from nine students.

The scheme was breathtaking in its boldness. For example, in March 2020, he sent an email under one of his aliases, "Bertie Benson," to another of his aliases, "Amanda Wilbert." In the email, he offered to complete "Wilbert’s" math assignments and guaranteeing her an A for $300. He then forwarded that email to 112 students enrolled in a class that he was teaching. According to prosecutors, he would then "haggle" students on how much the grade would cost. When one student balked at the $500, Ennels reportedly asked "how much can you afford?" What was striking about that exchange is that the student had written to him to say "Oh I don’t have that sorry. I will be sure to keep studying and pass my exam." While the default position, the student was prepared to actually learn the material. Yet, Ennels immediately lowered his price.

Presumably, Ennels thought that the alias would offer a protective wall to prevent direct evidence of fraud since the assignments and tests would be completed (by himself).

It is shocking enough to see a fellow academic abandon everything that we believe in. However,
it's easy to be generous with someone else's money...
Ennels did it for $2,815. He also sold online access codes that enabled students to view instructional material and complete assignments for $90. That proved a more popular product. He sold 694 access codes.

#9  You know - "What does it matter now" -

Project Baltimore obtained a chart assembled by Baltimore City Schools. The chart shows the average GPA for every high school grade in the city - freshman through senior. In the first three quarters of this past school year, according to the chart, 41% of all Baltimore City high school students, earned below a 1.0 grade point average.

They have learned to count...

West Africa: Islamic State's Determined Expansion Into Lake Chad Basin
[AllAfrica] African states must act quickly to stop the restructuring of Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
West Africa Province (ISWAP) in the Lake Chad Basin. If they don't, Islamic State's plans to expand in the region will further endanger the lives of millions of Africans.

According to ISS research, 130 or more former fighters rejoined ISWAP after returning from Libya in three batches between April and June.
Islamic State is using ISWAP, its local affiliate, to further its expansionist agenda that began even before it was defeated in Iraq and Syria. Institute for Security Studies research shows that Islamic State ordered the removal of Jama'atu Ahlis Sunnah lid-Da'wati wa'l-Jihad (JAS) leader Abubakar Shekau

Government Corruption
US Intel has data on all of the viruses the WIV was studying
After 5-10 years, it really should read 'HAD' the intel.

[John Brennan via CNN, CNN via Hot Air] CNN has published this as an exclusive so there’s no way to really verify any of it at this point. Still, what they claim is remarkable enough that it’s worth mentioning. Apparently our intelligence agencies have data on all of the viruses that were studied at the Wuhan Institute of Virology. CNN reports it’s unclear how that’s possible:

It’s unclear exactly how or when US intelligence agencies gained access to the information, but the machines involved in creating and processing this kind of genetic data from viruses are typically connected to external cloud-based servers — leaving open the possibility they were hacked, sources said.

You may remember that at one point the WIV had an online repository which included data all of the samples they had taken from the wild along with work they were doing on those viruses. But that website and all of the data it contained went offline in early September 2019, just a couple months before the first known cases of the coronavirus. After that point outside access of the data was not possible.

Curiously, when Dr. Shi Zhengli was asked why the database was pulled down she claimed on two different occasions that it had been prompted by attempts to hack the database. That answer didn’t make any sense because in September of 2019, no one had heard of the coronavirus and it’s unlikely that database was getting much attention. Dr. Peter Daszak, who helped fund the WIV research also gave the same answer about hacking when he was asked why the database was pulled down.

In any case, the CNN story suggests that the database was hacked by our intelligence agencies at some point and as a result we have all the data. The database was divided into two areas. There was a public area which included completed research and there was a private area which required a password. That portion of the site included data and sequences of viruses which hadn’t been publicly revealed yet could be very revealing.

Diversionary 'damage control' steps one must take wen your cover story turns to kak and your paymaster's (Fauci) credibility is totally gone ?

#2  CNN...."It’s unclear exactly how or when US intelligence agencies gained access to the information.....leaving open the possibility they were hacked, sources said."

"Unclear" to some possibly.

If you were funding something this sensitive and long-term, wouldn't you want to know what is going on? Gaining and maintaining knowledge of the effort is accomplished through recruited and paid sources within the targeted activity. Some of these sources are no longer among the living. Others have somehow made their way to the Big PX (The USA).

"External cloud servers and Hacking" as reported by unnamed "sources" ?

Point of the CNN (yes CNN) article located. Yes, misinformation. An operational diversion. Thank you CNN senior advisor John Brennan. "Cloud hacking"...total bullshi*.

g(r)om nailed it before I could hit send.

#7  I tried Mandarin once — we had just turned down an assignment in Guangzho, and it looked like it might come up again, so I took advantage of an offer made by a neighbour who is a Chinese instructor at the local university. My learnings:

  • get a musician to write out the five tonal thingies in musical notation, because it is really hard to master just by ear; make audio recordings of all lessons

  • because Chinese uses pictograms instead of letters, or even a combination of the two like Japanese, it is very hard to learn to read if one is not a visual thinker

  • some of us learn languages better when immersed rather than from books and teachers

I tick all three boxes, darn it, and gave up after a year. Fortunately Mr. Wife never was transferred abroad again, instead relying on quarterly round-the-world tours to deal with his people beyond Cincinnati. Though I have to admit that in general I miss being an expat — as a family we were good at it — between my health and trailing daughter #1’s, it has been much better to be stationed here.

#9  You really do have to use one of those winky emoticons or I’ll take you seriously, g(r)omgoru. China is involved with Israel, and would like to be more so, so you being serious was reasonable, except that g(r)om junior is more or less adult by now, if I now recall correctly. It would be useful to understand what they are saying to one another in meetings, convinced that no outsider understands — which is why trailing daughter #2 (who wanted an international business career like her father’s) wanted to study it, before discovering that there were no evening classes available to her. So she settled for Japanese, and is now very appreciated at a Japanese company in the U.S.
