#2  Arlene Carol Dahl
Elegance and femininity are fitting descriptions for Arlene Dahl. She is considered to be one of the most beautiful actresses to have graced the screen during the postwar period. Audiences were captivated by her breathtaking beauty and the way she used to it to her advantage, progressing from claimer to character roles.

Of Norwegian extraction, Miss Dahl was born in Minneapolis. Following high school she joined a local drama group, supporting herself with a variety of jobs, including modeling for a number of department stores. Arriving in Hollywood in 1946, she signed a brief contract with Warner Brothers, but she is best remembered for her work at MGM. The Bride Goes Wild (1948) was her first work at Metro. It was an odd but rather humorous love story, which starred Van Johnson and June Allyson.

Although her beauty captivated audiences, it ultimately limited her to smaller roles, and the mark she made at MGM was small. Some of her best films were Reign of Terror (1949), which actually required some acting and she acquitted herself quite well, Three Little Words (1950), Woman's World (1954), Slightly Scarlet (1956) and Journey to the Center of the Earth (1959).

Leaving films behind her in 1959, her typecasting would pay off financially as she became a beauty columnist and writer. She later established herself as a businesswoman, founding Arlene Dahl Enterprises which marketed lingerie and cosmetics.

She was married six times, two of whom were actors, Lex Barker and Fernando Lamas. She is the mother of actor / action star Lorenzo Lamas, and actually made a guest appearance in his film Night of the Warrior (1991).

Border officials in Texas make largest cocaine bust in 20 years inside baby wipe shipment
[FoxNews] 1,935 packages of cocaine worth an estimated $11,818,400 seized near Laredo, Texas.

The seizure happened Friday at the Colombia-Solidarity Bridge near Laredo when a U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officer referred a 2016 Stoughton trailer for a secondary inspection, CBP said in a news release on Monday.

The trailer’s manifest said it was hauling baby wipes, but a canine and non-intrusive inspection found a trove of illicit narcotics — 1,935 packages of cocaine, CBP said.

CBP officers seized the cocaine, and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations special agents are investigating the seizure, the release said.

500 Migrants in 3 Large Groups Apprehended near Border in Texas
[Breitbart] Rio Grande Valley Sector Border Patrol agents encountered five large groups of migrants who illegally crossed the border from Mexico into Texas over the past weekend. The groups totaled nearly 500 migrants from Central America and across the globe.

Rio Grande City Station Border Patrol agents encountered two large groups of migrants in Starr County, Texas, according to information obtained from Rio Grande Valley Sector Border Patrol officials. The groups were made up of 142 single adults, 101 family units, and 130 unaccompanied children. The 373 migrants in the two groups came from Cuba and multiple South and Central American nations, officials stated.

Nearby in the McAllen Station area of responsibility, agents encountered a third large group. This group of 121 migrants located in Hidalgo County, Texas, was made up of 21 single adults, 30 family units, and 70 unaccompanied minors, the report continued.

In total, RGV Sector agents took 494 migrants into custody from the three large groups. Unaccompanied alien children accounted for 200 of these apprehensions — more than 40 percent of the total.

“RGV agents have encountered more than 130 large groups illegally entering the United States since October 2021, resulting in more than 21,000 migrant apprehensions,” sector officials said in a written statement. “The logistics required to transport and process groups of this size continues to place a strain on manpower and resources, as they are often encountered in desolate areas inaccessible to large transport vehicles.”

Border Patrol defines a group of more than 100 migrants as a large group.

Afghanistan
Daily Evacuation Brief: September 1, 2022
[AfghanDigest] LAST 24 HOURS
  • PANJSHIRI CIVILIAN EVICTIONS — Sources in Panjshir are reporting that Taliban commanders are warning villagers to hand over Resistance fighters or be prepared to be evicted from their homes. Many evictions have been previously reported in the province, as well as in Takhar and Baghlan. The latest threats appear to be a part of the Taliban’s new special commander for Panjshir’s strategy of denying the NRF local support.

  • PAKISTANI VISA RESUMPTION — Taliban leadership is demanding that Pakistan’s embassy in Kabul promptly begin issuing visas again and instruct consulates to do the same. Several consulates had previously frozen new applications while the new Pakistani ambassador was installed in Kabul. Reportedly, many Kandahari residents have been pressuring the Taliban to restart the process.

  • HOUSE-TO-HOUSE SEARCH FAILURE — A source within the Ministry of the Interior has claimed that senior Taliban leadership is unhappy with the lack of results from the recent house-to-house search operations that have been carried out in multiple provinces across the country. Apparently, they were expecting a significant haul of weapons from the searches. Another round of searches is reputedly in the planning stages.

  • DEMANDS FOR JUSTICE — International outrage was sparked when a young woman named Elaha claimed to have been forcibly married to Saeed Khosty, a Haqqani network member and former Ministry of Interior spokesman. She released several videos on social media in which she claimed to have been sexually assaulted by Khosty before being forced to marry him and tortured during their marriage; she included purported video and photographic evidence. Khosty denied her allegations and stated that he divorced her because of her lack of faith and blasphemy against the Quran. This is an important opportunity for the Taliban to demonstrate their ability to execute justice, but unfortunately Khosty will likely face no consequences.

Amnesty Intl: Iranian, Turkish Soldiers Fire on Afghan Migrants
[ToloNews] Amnesia Amnesty International in its latest report, said that Iranian and Ottoman Turkish security forces had frequently pushed back Afghans who try to cross their borders in search of safety, including by unlawfully opening fire on men, women and kiddies.
Even vile and vicious countries get to control their own borders.
"In a new report, They don’t treat us like humans, the organization also documents numerous instances — mostly at the Iranian border — where security forces have shot directly at people as they climbed over walls or crawled under fences. Afghans who do manage to enter Iran

are routinely arbitrarily detained, and subjected to torture and other ill-treatment before being unlawfully and forcibly returned," the report reads.

According to Amnesia Amnesty International, the group interviewed 74 Afghans who had been turned away from Iran and Turkey while in Afghanistan, and 48 of them said to have come under fire while attempting to cross the borders.

"Amnesia Amnesty International researchers visited Afghanistan in March 2022, and conducted interviews in Herat

City and Islam Qala border town. They interviewed 74 Afghans who had been pushed back from Iran and Turkey, 48 of whom reported coming under fire as they attempted to cross the borders. None of the people Amnesia Amnesty International spoke to had been able to register an asylum claim in either country, and the majority were returned to Afghanistan in violation of international law," the report stated.

An Amnesia Amnesty International researcher on South Asian affairs added that Iran and Turkey forcefully deport refugees in addition to persecution.

"The security forces or border guards of the two countries shoot at them to prevent the entrance of more migrants colonists or those who are fleeing Afghanistan out of fear for their life. These shootings, which frequently happen near Iran's border, resulted in deaths and injuries of those trying to enter Iran," Zaman Sultani, the researcher.

Meanwhile,
...back at the Senate, Tremulus continued with his speech against Varius and his cohorts, watching as his colleagues dropped off to sleep one by one...
some Afghan refugees who have just been deported from Iran and Turkey to the country criticized the behavior of the Ottoman Turkish border guards.

"The border police don't behave appropriately. They treated the families brutally and beat them," said Shayeq Shejayee, an Afghan refugee.

"We faced many problems along the way to Iran," said Muhibullah, another Afghan refugee.

The International Organization for Migration has recently reported that Turkey has deported more than eighteen thousand refugees from the country in the past six months.

Some refugees said that they go to Iran because of economic and security problems, but they also face many problems in this country.

New front opens in Ethiopia’s resurging Tigray war
[Garowe] Fresh Arclight airstrike
...KABOOM!...
s in the Tigrayan capital of Mekele and along the Sudanese border

Fighting in Æthiopia’s nearly two-year Tigray war erupted along a new front near Sudan, the government said Wednesday, after a ceasefire collapsed a week ago.

Medics also reported fresh airstrikes on Mekele, capital of the northern Tigray region, where the Tigray People's Liberation Front (TPLF) is battling Æthiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s national army in a conflict killing thousands, smashing infrastructure, and exacerbating hunger.

The festivities shattered a five-month-old truce and dimmed efforts to end the nearly two-year conflict in Africa’s second-most populous country.

A government statement said the TPLF "launched an invasion" towards areas it said were in the Amhara region and referred to as Wag, Wolqait, and the Sudanese border.

Getachew Reda, a TPLF spokesperson, tweeted that the government was "making up stories so it’d get away scot-free in the eyes of the international community."

The latest strike follows a hit on Friday that killed seven people in Tigray, including women and kiddies.

Almost all of Tigray’s 5.5 million people need food aid, but no humanitarian deliveries have entered for nine days, two United Nations

officials said.

Fuel restrictions are also limiting aid distribution, while hospital patients are dying amid a lack of medicine and equipment.

Restoring services is a key demand of the TPLF before peace talks. The government said it wants talks to begin without conditions.

Two Palestinians reported killed in separate overnight West Bank clashes
[IsraelTimes] Violence erupts in Nablus’s Balata refugee camp and al-Bireh near Ramallah, after troops enter to make arrests

Two Paleostinians were killed early Thursday in separate festivities with Israeli forces in the West Bank, local media reports said.

In Nablus’s Balata refugee camp in the northern West Bank, armed festivities erupted after Israeli troops entered to arrest wanted individuals.

A Paleostinian man, identified as Samer Khaled from the nearby Ein Beit al-Ma’ refugee camp, was shot in the neck and later died, Paleostinian media reports said.

Separately, reports said a second Paleostinian was shot and killed by Israeli forces during festivities in the city of al-Bireh near Ramallah.

He was identified as Yazan Afaneh, from the nearby Qalandiya refugee camp, north of Jerusalem.

Footage circulated online showed Khaled’s and Afaneh’s bodies being brought to hospitals.

There was no immediate comment from the Israel Defenses Forces on the festivities.

Early Wednesday, Israeli forces arrested three Paleostinians linked to shooting attacks near a settlement, along with six other suspects during raids across the West Bank.

Al-Hol security operation continues, more ISIS suspects arrested
While all around is Sturm und Drang, the Kurds quietly keep on reducing ISIS.
[Rudaw] Kurdish security forces in northeast Syria (Rojava) announced on Wednesday the arrest of an additional 26 suspects of the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(ISIS) in an ongoing operation in the notorious al-Hol camp.

Internal security forces (Asayish), in cooperation with the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the global coalition, launched Operation Security and Humanity on Thursday targeting sleeper cells of the Islamic State (ISIS) in al-Hol, a camp infamously known for the presence of ISIS members.

Fifteen ISIS suspects were arrested and three tents used by the terror group as courts and indoctrination facilities were dismantled on the operation's sixth day on Tuesday, according to Asayish.

The force further said it had arrested 11 suspected ISIS members in the camp the day after, bringing the number of ISIS suspects arrested at the camp since the start of the operation to 136.

The US-led Coalition's Special Operations Joint Task Force-Levant (SOJTF-Levant) commended the Asayish for taking efforts to rid the camp of ISIS elements.

The Israeli regime has conducted 'several' air strikes against the Aleppo International Airport
[PUBLISH.TWITTER]

The Israeli regime has conducted "several" air strikes against the Aleppo International Airport in western Syria, targeting the facility with missiles. The official Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reported the offensive on Wednesday, citing a military source.

"At around 20:00 hours (17:00 GMT), the Israeli enemy targeted Aleppo International Airport with missile fire, causing material damage at the heart of the facility," the agency said.

The report did not make any mention of possible human losses.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a UK-based so-called monitor, said four Israeli missiles had targeted the runway and depots at the airport.

Also on Wednesday, SANA added, "The army air defenses repelled hostile missiles over [the capital] Damascus and its countryside, downing a number of them." The country's state television said the missiles had been fired by the Israeli regime.

Syria accused Israel of carrying out two consecutive Arclight airstrike
...KABOOM!...
s on Wednesday night, the first against the Aleppo International Airport and the second near the capital Damascus.

According to the state-run SANA news agency, the first airstrike caused damage to the airport in northern Syria. It did not provide further details. Images published on social media appeared to show several fires in the area.

Aleppo is a major city in northern Syria, near its border with The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the occupiers of Greek Asia Minor...
, and is an uncommon — though not unprecedented — site for reported Israeli airstrikes. The last reported Israeli strikes in the area were in July 2021.

Shortly after the strike on Aleppo, SANA said air defenses were engaging another Israeli airstrike, over the capital Damascus. The news agency claimed that a number of "hostile missiles" were downed over Damascus and the surrounding countryside. Syria regularly claims to intercept Israeli missiles, though military analysts doubt such assertions.

SANA said damage was caused to several sites that were hit in the attack near Damascus, without elaborating further. There were no immediate reports of injuries in the alleged attacks.

As a rule, Israel’s military does not comment on specific strikes in Syria, but has admitted to conducting hundreds of sorties against Iran-backed groups attempting to gain a foothold in the country. It says it also attacks arms shipments believed to be bound for those groups, chief among them Lebanese Hezbollah.

Generally, relatively large weapons are thought to be smuggled via Syria on Iranian cargo airlines, which frequently land at Damascus International and the Tiyas, or T-4, airbase, outside of the central Syrian city of Palmyra. The weaponry is then believed to be stored in warehouses in the area before being trucked to Lebanon Hezbollahstan
...the home of Hezbollah, which periodically starts a war with the Zionist Entity™, gets Beirut pounded to rubble, and then declares victory and has a parade...
The UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, an opposition war monitor with unclear funding, immediately claimed Wednesday’s airstrike near Aleppo targeted four warehouses "likely" containing shipments of Iranian missiles. The unverified claim was picked up by Hebrew language media, despite the fact that the organization, run by a single person, has regularly been accused by Syrian war analysts of false reporting, inflating casualty numbers, as well as inventing them out of whole cloth.
