Afghanistan
Daily Evacuation Brief September 6, 2022
[AfghanDigest] LAST 24 HOURS
  • RUSSIAN EMBASSY BOMBING — ISIS-K has claimed credit for a suicide bombing at the Russian Embassy in Kabul that killed 6 people (including 2 Russian embassy staff members) and injured 10 Afghan civilians. A local police commander claimed the suicide bomber was recognized and shot by a Taliban security guard at the Embassy before he could do greater damage. The incident occurred as negotiations with Russia to supply oil to Afghanistan were being finalized.DEADLY EARTHQUAKE IN THE EAST— A 5.3 magnitude earthquake struck eastern Afghanistan, killing at least 10 and injuring as many as 50 more. Nangarhar, Kunar, and Laghman provinces appear to be the hardest hit; damage estimates are still coming in from those areas. Recently repaired drinking water pipelines were damaged, driving fears about another outbreak of cholera in the affected area. The death toll from the earthquake is expected to climb as rural communities report casualties over the next few days.

  • ROCKET ATTACKS CONFIRMED — The Ministry of the Interior confirmed earlier reporting of rocket attacks in Kabul’s Police District 3 and denied rumors that the attacks were being conducted by drones. The Ministry says that 4 people are currently under arrest and alleged that they are tied to the National Resistance Front. Drones continue to be observed on patrol in several parts of Afghanistan and are fueling rumors of US targeting operations.

  • PROPPING UP THE AFGHANI — The Da Afghanistan Bank auctioned off $12 million USD to bolster the strength of the Afghani.

Somalia: Al-Shabaab Executes 5 Accused of Spying
[Garowe] The al-Shabaab
...... the personification of Somali state failure...
executed five men within Jilib town in Middle Jubba, over claims that they have been sharing intelligence with the US Africa Command, a team that has been working closely with the Somali National Army [SNA] and other allied troops in the country.

It's not the first time, however, that the gunnies are targeting people believed to be spies of the US and the government of Somalia. Jilib town is the official headquarters of the al-Qaeda-linked group and has proven difficult got security forces to dethrone them from the base.

Sources say the incident took place on Sunday but even after the execution, the deadly group did not immediately publish evidence on the allegations leveled against the victims. Usually, the gunnies do not give the accused opportunity to defend themselves through lawyers.

The number of people brutally executed by the group has reached 18 since late July, with the group had killed 13 others over the same allegations. The accused are tied before the firing squad opens fire, killing them instantly without even alerting their families.

Over years, al-Shabaab has usually had issues with the US army or those working closely with them, terming them as "enemies" of Somalia. In most situations, the group keeps surveillance of them before arresting and killing them in cold blood at times without much evidence.

To further cause fear and instability, the group has often tried to attack US outposts in Somalia, as retaliation to the efforts made by Washington to equip and train Danab Special forces, within the Somali National Army. The group attacked camp Simba in Kenya two years ago, killing three US nationals.

The execution comes in the middle of sustained al-Shabaab attacks in Somalia, including the latest attack targeting food trucks, which left at least 22 innocent civilians dead. The group, however, insisted that it was targeting people closely working with security forces.

US Africa Command has since redeployed soldiers to Somalia, over a year after they were prematurely withdrawn by former President Donald Trump
...His ancestors didn't own any slaves...

s and ground operations.

A report done by the US indicated that al-Shabaab has improved its technology and has been using drones against its target in recent times. It's not clear who gives the group sophisticated weapons but there is an indication that they are using the civil war in Yemen

The al-Shabaab gunnies control rural central and southern Somalia but there have been deliberate efforts to push them out of their bases with the African Union

court following festivities in the Lower Shabelle region on Monday.

The police and Intelligence elite forces have jointly raided Basra village near Mogadishu and killed a number of al-Shabaab members.

The allied Somali forces reportedly rescued people held at al-Shabaab prison, according to the state media. Several fighters were nabbed and weapons were recovered.

The operation comes days after al-Shabaab killed 21 people in Hiran after an attack on a convoy between Beledweyne and Mahas towns in the Hiran region.

Burkina Faso: Dozens dead after bus hits IED
[DW] The explosion hit a convoy carrying supplies in the north of the country, an area where Islamist gunnies have escalated attacks in recent years.

At least 35 non-combatants were killed and 37 were maimed in Burkina Faso
...The country in west Africa that they put where Upper Volta used to be. Its capital is Oogadooga, or something like that. Its president is currently Blaise Compaoré, who took office in 1987 and will leave office feet first, one way or the other...
on Monday after the vehicle they were traveling in struck an improvised bomb.

The attack occured in an area where Islamist gunnies have escalated attacks on villages, police and military outposts since 2015.

WHAT WE KNOW ABOUT THE ATTACK
The escorted supply convoy was heading to the capital, Ouagadougou. "The victims are mainly traders who were going to buy supplies in Ouagadougou and students who were returning to the capital for the next school year," the resident, who wished to remain anonymous, told AFP.

The convoy hit the bomb between the northern towns of Djibo and Bourzanga, the interim government said in a statement.
As far as I can tell, that’s in north-central Burkina Faso, territory of the Macina Liberation Front (FLM), one of the local groups within Jamaat Nusrat al-Islam wal-Moslemin (JNIM), the regional umbrella affiliated with Al Qaeda in North Africa.
"Escorts rapidly secured the perimeter and took measures to assist the victims," governor Rodolphe Sorgho said.

Jihadist groups have recently carried out similar attacks on arterial roads leading to the northern capitals of Dori and Djibo. In early August, 15 soldiers died in a double explosion in the same area.

WHAT IS THE INTERNAL CONFLICT IN BURKINA FASO?
The seven-year insurgency has killed more than 2,000 people and forced some 1.9 million to flee.

Fighting is concentrated in the north and east, led by jihadists suspected of having links to al-Qaeda or the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group.

According to the Norwegian Refugee Council, nearly one in 10 people in Burkina Faso has been displaced by conflict and severe food insecurity has almost doubled compared to 2021.

Since last year, Burkina Faso has become the epicenter of violence, with more deadly attacks than in neighboring Mali or Niger in 2021, according to NGO Acled.

More than 40% of the country is outside the control of the military government, which took power in January. It has made countering the insurgency its top priority.

Five people convicted in the case of extremism in Karachay-Cherkessia
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[KavkazUzel] Five members of the At-Takfir Val-Hijra
The At Takfir wal Hijra movement was founded 1971, led by Upper Egyptian agronomist Shukri Mustafa (1942-1978). Originally Muslim Brotherhood, he joined Sayyid Qutb in splitting off to pursue violent jihad. After Shukri Mustafa was executed, the group split again, the more moderate faction following Ayman Al-Zawahiri, who subsequently became Al Qaeda’s second in command. Takfir wal Hijra has cells all over the place — Ukraine reported arresting three Crimean turbans in 2009, and a larger cell was tied up in Moscow in 2013.
were sentenced in Karachay-Cherkessia to terms ranging from two to two and a half years in prison.

The Malokarachaevsky District Court of Karachay-Cherkessia issued a guilty verdict against five members of a cell of an international religious extremist association, writes today with reference to the regional department of the FSB Interfax.

One of the convicts was sentenced to two years in prison, and the remaining four received two and a half years in a penal colony, the FSB reported.

All the convicts were found guilty under the article on participation in the activities of a banned religious association (Part 2 of Article 282.2 of the Criminal Code of Russia). The defense of the convicts has not yet commented on the verdict delivered by the court.

The "Caucasian Knot" also wrote that in July the FSB reported on the detention of 11 members of a cell of the Islamic State terrorist organization banned in Russia by a court.

Europe
Dozens of Lebanese and Syrian migrants trapped at sea
[AnNahar] Dozens of Lebanese and Syrian migrants colonists stranded for days on a sinking fishing boat in the Mediterranean Sea are urging European coastiess to save them, saying that two children have died.
Of course
The roughly 60 migrants colonists told relatives and volunteer groups with a satellite phone that two young children have died, and that the group has been without food, water, and baby formula for the past three days. On board are Syrian refugees and Lebanese from its severely impoverished northern provinces trying to reach Italia for job opportunities. They left Lebanon Hezbollahstan
...The land area formerly occupied by the state of Lebanon, before that Phoenicia...
off the coast of the northern city of Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...

"They're trying to remove water leaking into the boat with buckets, that's all they have," the brother of one of the Syrian passengers told The News Agency that Dare Not be Named. He asked to not disclose their names for security reasons and because some of the migrants colonists did not want to disclose the news to their families back home. "This fishing boat is meant for five people, not 60."

Lebanon has a population of 6 million, including 1 million Syrian refugees, and has been in the grip of a severe economic meltdown since late 2019 that has pulled over three-quarters of the population into poverty.

The migrants colonists are reportedly stranded near the coasts of Malta and Italia. The authorities have not dispatched rescuers, according to families and activist muppets in touch with the migrants colonists. Lebanese MP Ashraf Rifi urged the Italian government, as well as the Lebanese Foreign Ministry and the Lebanese Embassy in Rome to take action.

According to families and Alarm Phone, an activist muppet network that helps bring in rescuers to distressed migrants colonists at sea, Malta has not yet authorized a rescue operation and has not given permission to a commercial fat merchantman to rescue the stranded migrants colonists.

Meanwhile,
...back at the wrecked scow, Agent 49 felt gingerly for his head. It was still there. He had been hoping differently...
families fear the leaking boat could sink at any time.

"Whenever I call, you can hear the children screaming and crying in the background," the relative said. "I don't know why no governments have taken action to rescue them, is it because they're poor people trying to make ends meet for their families?"

Once a country that received refugees, Lebanon has become a launching pad for dangerous migration by sea to Europe. As the crisis deepened, more Lebanese, as well as Syrian and Paleostinian refugees, set off to sea, with security agencies reporting foiled migration attempts almost weekly.

In April, a boat carrying dozens of Lebanese, Syrians and Paleostinians trying to migrate by sea to Italia went down more than five kilometers (three miles) from the port of Tripoli, following a confrontation with the Lebanese navy. Dozens were killed in the incident.

The circumstances of the vessel's sinking are disputed. Survivors say their boat was rammed by the Lebanese navy, while the military claims the migrants colonists' boat collided with a navy vessel while trying to get away.

The April sinking was the greatest migrant tragedy for Lebanon in recent years and put the government further on the defensive at a time when the country is in economic free fall and public trust in the state and its institutions is rapidly crumbling.

ANTIFA: Portland street mob shoots at elderly driver, accidentally kills one of their own
[PostMillennial] In addition to the elderly man who appeared to be shot, two participants of the takeover were also injured by gunfire, leading to the death of 20-year-old Cameron Taylor.

Shocking video has emerged on social media showing scenes of deadly and fiery chaos at lawless street occupations in Portland, Ore. over the weekend.

At one of the street racing takeovers on Sunday night near the Expo Center attended by hundreds, an elderly man in a van appeared to be caught in the road before being violently attacked by an armed mob. Video posted on social media shows that as he desperately attempted to reverse and drive away while being attacked, he backed into a car.

A man in the crowd then fires at least 18 rounds at his fleeing van. A follow-up video shows the crowd catching up with the elderly man who had stopped on a patch of grass. He appeared to be in shock and was bleeding heavily.

"There were hundreds of people and cars in the area participating in an apparent illegal street takeover event, making it difficult for officers to respond and investigate the shooting," Portland Police said in a press statement announcing that no arrests were made.

In addition to the elderly man who appeared to be shot, two participants of the takeover were also injured by gunfire, leading to the death of 20-year-old Cameron Taylor. A $20,000 GoFundMe campaign for his funeral says he was "struck by a stray bullet."

On Twitter, Antifa accounts have been promoting the fundraiser. Antifa in Portland have expressed support for street car takeovers as they have become more frequent following the Antifa-BLM riots in 2020. Antifa view it as one of the ways to undermine law and order, and use up police resources.

"My boys (sic) lifelong friend was killed last night at the street takeover," said Portland Antifa account "@burn_itdown_161" in a post promoting a candlelight vigil and GoFundMe for Taylor on Monday.

The deadly street takeover near the Expo Center wasn't the only street racing event on Sunday. There was another simultaneous takeover at the intersection of Northeast 72nd Avenue and Sandy Boulevard. Video posted on social media of that occupation shows cars spinning on the road while a person uses a flamethrower to blast fire into the occupied street.

A resident in the neighborhood told local news station KOIN that there were around 500 people at the occupation.

The events on Sunday stretched local law enforcement to breaking point as police struggled to respond due to multiple other shootings in the city. Police made no arrests in either street takeover incident.

"Officers will respond as they become available and it is safe for them to do so," a spokesperson said in an email to The Post Millennial.

Portland is continuing to experience a historic and unprecedented surge in shootings and homicides in the city since the Antifa-BLM riots of 2020 decimated law enforcement numbers. 2021 passed the city's record number of homicides and the current year is on track to match or surpass that.

India-Pakistan
Officer among five army men martyred in North Waziristan
It looks like there are still Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan wandering the woods in those parts, despite the army’s efforts.
[Dawn] A young army officer and four soldiers were martyred in an exchange of fire with turbans that took place when security forces conducted an intelligence-based operation in the Boyya area of North Wazoo tribal district on Monday, the military said.

During the conduct of the operation, an intense exchange of fire took place between the troops and the terrorists, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the military’s media affairs wing, said. The troops effectively engaged the terrorists’ location as a result of which four bad boyz were potted. Weapons and ammunition were recovered from the killed terrorists.

The killed turbans remained actively involved in terrorist activities against security forces and killing of innocent citizens, the ISPR said.

However,
if you can't say something nice about a person some juicy gossip will go well...
it said, during the intense exchange of fire, Captain Abdul Wali, 26; Naib Subedar Nawaz, 45; Havaldar Ghulam Ali, 34; Lance Naik Ilyas, 33; and Sepoy Zafar Ullah, 29, embraced shahadat.

Sanitisation of the area is being carried out to eliminate any other turbans found there.

The ISPR said that Pakistain Army is "determined to eliminate the menace of terrorism and such sacrifices of our brave soldiers will not go unpunished".

Iraq
Rockets crash in Erbil’s Soran administration
[Rudaw] Several rockets crashed in Erbil’s Soran administration, local officials told Rudaw on Monday evening, without resulting in any casualties.

At least four Katyusha rockets crashed in Khalifan’s Tarawa village, with the source and target of the rockets yet to be determined, Halgurd Sheikh Najib, the head of Soran administration told Rudaw, adding that no material or immaterial damages have been inflicted during the incident.

Maghdid Ahmed, Soran’s mayor, told Rudaw that they have begun investigations into the incident.

The officials confirmed to Rudaw that there are currently no military bases near the area where the rockets landed.

Harir airbase, housing US forces, is approximately 30 kilometers away from the town of Khalifan.

Rudaw’s ground news hound stated hours after the incident that the sound of gunfire was being heard in Tarawa.

Later in the evening, the Kurdistan Region’s counter-terrorism directorate claimed that a drone targeted suspected members of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in Erbil’s Balisan Valley, around the same time of the reported rocket incident in Soran.

The PKK is an gang struggling for the increased rights of Kurds in The Sick Man of Europe Turkey

and designated a terrorist organization by Ankara.

Ankara has received widespread criticism from Baghdad, Erbil, and the international community for violating Iraqi illusory sovereignty. It recently launched an operation against the gang in Duhok province, dubbed Claw-Lock, which has been condemned by Iraqi officials, who labeled it as a "hostile" and "provocative" violation of the country’s illusory sovereignty.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
IDF razes Jenin apartment of terrorist; Palestinian reported killed in clashes
[IsraelTimes] IDF says troops come under ’massive gunfire’ in Jenin refugee camp as they demolish the home of Ra’ad Hazem, who killed 3 in Tel Aviv in April

Israeli security forces operated in the West Bank city of Jenin in the pre-dawn hours of Tuesday to demolish the home of a Paleostinian terrorist who killed three Israelis in a shooting attack in Tel Aviv in April, the military said.

A video published by the Israel Defense Forces showed the apartment, in a building in the Jenin refugee camp, demolished in two blasts. A clip posted to social media showed the aftermath of the demolition, with one wall blown out and rubble in some areas.
New rubble? Or Standard Paleo Rubble™?
The demolition order was issued in May for the apartment of Ra’ad Hazem, who opened fire on April 7 on patrons at the Ilka bar on Dizengoff street in Tel Aviv.

The IDF said festivities broke out, including "massive gunfire directed at troops," amid the demolition operation.

According to Paleostinian media reports, a man was killed and several others were maimed in an exchange of gunfire with Israeli troops.

The military said troops had returned fire at button men and rioters who hurled explosives at them.

The dear departed Paleostinian was named as Muhammed Musa Sabaaneh.

Hazem killed Tomer Morad and Eytam Magini, two friends aged 27, and Barak Lufan, a 35-year-old father of three, in the shooting and injured about a dozen others. He went on the run following the murders and was found hiding near a mosque in Jaffa after an hours-long manhunt involving hundreds of security officers.

While initially raising his hands in surrender, Hazem then drew a gun and opened fire on the officers, who fired back and killed him.

As a punitive policy, Israel regularly demolishes the homes of Paleostinians accused of carrying out deadly terror attacks. Israel defends the contentious practice of razing the family homes of attackers as a deterrent against future assaults, and officials have argued that speed is essential, claiming that the deterrent factor degrades over time.

In raids across the West Bank overnight, troops arrested 10 wanted Paleostinians, the IDF said Tuesday morning.

Soldiers also searched the home of the button men who committed Sunday’s attack in the Jordan Valley, in the town of Jiftlik. "The forces located weapons and logistical equipment," the IDF said.

Military chief Aviv Kohavi on Monday slammed the Paleostinian Authority for its inability to govern areas in the northern West Bank, where troops have repeatedly come under gunfire during nightly raids, during the months-long operation aimed at preventing Paleostinian turbans from committing attacks.

More than 1,500 suspects have been detained since the start of the operation, according to Kohavi.

Palestinian gunman reported killed in West Bank as IDF hunts for fugitive shooter
[IsraelTimes] Apparent PIJ member dies in exchange of fire near Jenin; 17 terror suspects arrested in overnight raids across West Bank; search continues for suspect in attack on soldiers’ bus

A Paleostinian gunman was reported killed overnight Sunday in an exchange of fire with Israeli security forces during a West Bank arrest operation. The clash came as security forces continued intensive arrest operations in the northern West Bank as well as a hunt for a gunman who participated in Sunday’s shooting attack on a bus full of Israel Defense Forces soldiers.

Seven people were maimed when three Paleostinians shot up a bus carrying soldiers on Sunday, including the civilian driver who was maimed. Six troops were left with non-life-threatening injuries. Two of the button men were captured and a third escaped. Searches Monday were focusing on the area of Tubas, east of Nablus.

Security forces arrested 17 suspects across the West Bank overnight Sunday, the IDF said. In Jenin and the town of Qabatiya, five terror suspects were arrested. During the arrest operation button men shot up security forces, who shot back.

Paleostinian media identified the gunman who was killed as Taher Zakarna, 19.

Images circulated online showed Zakarna wearing a headband bearing the logo of Paleostinian Islamic Jihad
...created after many members of the Egyptian Moslem Brotherhood decided the organization was becoming too moderate. Operations were conducted out of Egypt until 1981 when the group was exiled after the assassination of President Anwar Sadat. They worked out of Gaza until they were exiled to Lebanon in 1987, where they clove tightly to Hezbollah. In 1989 they moved to Damascus, where they remain a subsidiary of Hezbollah...
, although the terror group did not immediately claim him as a member.

The army said there were no injuries to Israeli forces amid the shootout.

During the raids security forces also confiscated weapons, weapons parts, ammunition and funds.

Four IDF soldiers were hurt when Paleostinians shot up a military post in the central West Bank on Sunday night, the military said.

The four soldiers were listed in good condition and treated at the scene, the IDF said. The Rescuers Without Borders emergency service said one was taken for further medical treatment at Sheba Medical Center in Ramat Gan after sustaining injuries from shrapnel.

The military launched a manhunt for the suspects who expeditiously departed at a goodly pace. According to Paleostinian media reports, the army closed the main entrance to Nabi Saleh, a frequent flashpoint between soldiers and Paleostinians.

Iran sentences two women to death for 'corruption on earth'
[SHAFAQ] Two women have been sentenced to death in Iran
...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites....
on charges of "corruption on earth" and human trafficking over the last few days, Iran's official IRNA news agency reported on Monday.

Advocates and rights group took to social media to share pictures of the two women, saying they are LGBT rights activist muppets and are innocent. The pictures could not be verified by Rooters.

"Contrary to news published online, the sentenced have deceived and trafficked young women and girls out of the country by promising them educational and work opportunities, thus leading to the suicide of several of their victims," IRNA said.

"Corruption on earth" is a term Iranian authorities use to refer to a broad range of offences, including those related to Islamic morals.

In March, Iran's Lord High Potentate and Supreme Leader of All He Surveys Ayatollah Ali Khamenei
...the very aged actual dictator of Iran, successor to Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini...
described homosexuality as part of a "moral deprivation" widespread in Western civilisation.

Western rights groups have often criticised Iran for its treatment of LGBT issues. Under Iran's legal system, homosexual acts can be punished by the death penalty
