Court order blocks NYC plan to move migrants upstate after city and county officials fight back
[FoxNews] NYC mayor's office has called on officials around the state to help alleviate pressure on the city.

A state judge in New York has put a halt to a New York City plan to bus migrants to a nearby Rockland County hotel.

Rockland Supreme Court Judge Christine D'Alessio issued a temporary restraining order to not permit the Armani Inn & Suites hotel in Orangeburg, New York, to house over 300 illegal migrants, ruling the hotel's land-use permits and certificate of occupancy do not permit the plan put forward by New York City Mayor Eric Adams to alleviate the pressure on the city's migrant shelters, according to a Journal News report Wednesday.

The ruling came after pushback to the plan from Orangetown, New York, officials, who showed the judge pictures of the hotel installing twin beds as well as stocking boxes of personal protection equipment and T-shirts inscribed with "supervisor" and "supervisor social worker." Town officials argued the photos showed that the hotel was essentially converting itself into a shelter for non-transient residents.

"To be very clear, the legal status of these individuals is irrelevant to this matter and to the Town’s decision to seek legal recourse," town supervisor Teresa M. Kenny told Fox News Digital in an email, adding that the town sought the restraining order to "ensure the integrity of local zoning regulations" which are in place "to protect the public health, safety and welfare" of the community.

"The immediate conversion of the Armoni Inn & Suites – a hotel that serves as a place of overnight accommodation for transient occupants – into a housing facility for long-term residence violates local zoning standards," Kenny added. "The steps taken by the Town, and the Temporary Restraining Order issued by the Court, are for the protection of those who would be housed in the Armoni Inn & Suites on a long-term basis, as well as the community at large."

The Armoni Inn & Suites could not be reached for comment.

The hotel was ordered to halt any conversion or take in "non-transient" guests "unless or until such use is approved by the Town of Orangetown and any other required governmental authority."

The ruling also came after heated remarks by Rockland County Executive Ed Day, who said the county has issued a state of emergency and promised a law enforcement response if New York City officials continue with the plan to bus migrants to Rockland County.

"[Adams] never asked for an opinion, he just said, ‘Screw you, Rockland County,’" Day said, according to a report from the New York Post Sunday. "Well, here is my response… Mr. Adams, you can try to run us over, [and] I will reach up and grab you by the throat for the people of Rockland County."

County officials say Adams dropped the plan, which is designed to alleviate pressure on New York City's overwhelmed shelters, on them with little notice late last week.

When reached for comment by Fox News Digital, a spokesperson for Mayor Adams' office called on officials around the state to help the city until it can get federal assistance.

"New York City has cared for more than 61,000 migrants — sheltering, feeding, and caring for them, and we have done so largely without incident," the spokesperson said. "We need the federal government to step up, but until they do, we need other elected officials around the state and country to do their part and emulate the humane and compassionate approach New York City has taken over the past year."

The spokesperson also called out Day specifically, saying the Rockland County Executive has shown he "is not a leader this state needs" and accusing him of "racist rhetoric."

"We’ve been met with racist rhetoric and reprehensible threats from the head of a county that will be tasked with caring for less than ¼ of 1% of the asylum seekers who have come to New York City, and, once again, New York would be paying for shelter, food, and services," the spokesperson said.

‘I left my soul behind’: Afghan generals now based in Colorado reflect 20 months after leaving home
[Stripes] As he stepped into a Royal Air Force C-17 transport plane on August 19, 2021, while chaos swallowed Kabul, Lt. Gen. Sammi Sadat had a thought: What if he stayed behind and took his men into Kabul to kill as many Taliban
...the Pashtun equivalent of men...
fighters as they could?

The decision would likely have meant death for him and his troops.

Woman rewarded $10,000 for averting Al-Shabaab attack in Somalia
[Garowe] The government of Somalia has rewarded a woman for her acts of patriotism after she reportedly refused to take in al-Shabaab
...... al-Qaeda's tentacle in East Africa...
's offers to use her house in launching attacks against the Somali National Army, a rare gesture of goodwill from members of the public in the country.

Mama Farhiyo was rewarded for her acts of patriotism by Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre who termed her actions as "bravery which should be emulated by all Somalis". The woman prevented a possibly devastating attack at Kahda District within Mogadishu, the capital of Somalia.

In reference to her heroics, Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre delivered $10,000 to her while asking citizens to work closely with government forces in taming the al-Shabaab Death Eaters. President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has previously encouraged locals to join the war against the Death Eaters.

According to reports, the woman is reported to have refused the snuffies from hiding in her house to carry out the attacks. al-Shabaab usually launches attacks from enclosed areas and at times, they drop Improved Explosive Devices in areas highly populated with human population.

The PM also directed the local government there to repair the house of the woman which was destroyed after the snuffies failed to secure the place. All those who were maimed will also be treated on government charge, the PM said, in one of the government's rare gestures of appreciation.

Locals have already said "enough is enough" to the Death Eaters, with some now taking arms against the group which is losing significant territories in central and southern Somalia. The local militia has been helping the federal troops and those from foreign nations in weeding al-Shabaab snuffies from all fronts.

Statistics by the US Africa Command show that there are close to 7,000 active al-Shabaab fighters in Somalia but the number may have reduced significantly following the first phase of operations against the group. During the first phase, the government said, over 3,000 snuffies were killed across the country.

Regional force could exit DRC by June; President Tshisekedi hints
[GOOBJOOG] DR Congo president Felix Tshisekedi has criticized the East African Regional Force deployed in the Eastern Part of DRC to stabilize conflict in the area of "Cohabiting" with the rebels.

Speaking in Gaborone Botswana where he is scheduled to meet leaders from the South Africa Development Community (SADC) to discuss the plans to deploy the troops in DRC, hinting that the East African Force could exit by June.

"There is cohabitation that we have noticed between the contingent of East African Community and the rebels," Tshisekedi said at a news conference.

"That is a genuine problem when it comes to the mission assigned, and also compels to ask, what is the purpose of the mission?" he said, claiming that except for the Burundi troops, others "are now living together with M23".
M23 stands for March 23 Movement — in our archives as M23 rebels — also known as the Congolese Revolutionary Army. The Tutsi group was founded in 2012 as a Rwandan sock puppet, which no doubt seemed a good idea at the time, but in less than a year the Congolese army defeated them, and then Rwanda publicly stepped back in response to international pressure. M23 started acting up again in late 2021, reportedly again at Rwandan instigation...
His comments come a day after a special summit of the 16-bloc Southern African Development Community (SADC), held in Namibia, resolved to deploy forces "to restore peace and security in eastern DRC".

Tshisekedi said the EAC force’s mandate ends in June, "and if we feel that the mandate was not fulfilled will return them and thank them for having tried".

"We have the confirmation of the coming of SADC troops which we will have to put in place," he added.

Several gangs have launched attacks in the Eastern Part of DRC from the 90’s with the M23 having reemerged in late 2021 — wreaking havoc in the area.

The East African Community created a military force, the East African Community Regional Force (EACRF) which was sent to the DRC to restore stability in the troubled nation last June.

Kenyan soldiers deploying in November followed this year by Burundian, Ugandan and South Sudanese contingents.

Former Pakistan Prime Minister, Imran Khan, Appears In Court As Police Arrest Hundreds Over Violent Protests
[SAHARAREPORTERS] Pakistain's former prime minister Imran Khan
...aka The Great Khan, who isn't your heaviest-duty thinker, maybe not even among the top five...
has appeared in court, a day after his arrest on corruption charges sparked nationwide protests.

According to the police, nearly 1,000 people have been arrested since Mr Khan was arrested on corruption charges. Although, the former leader has denied the allegations.
No, no! Certainly not!
against him.

There is tight security at the police guesthouse where he is being detained, which is serving as a courtroom, BBC News reports.

Khan will be disqualified from standing for election if he is convicted.

At least two people were killed during violent mostly peaceful protests that broke out in several cities across Pakistain following his arrest on Tuesday.

Pakistain's paramilitary forces arrested the former Prime Minister in the capital Islamabad, in a move that threatens to escalate political tensions at a time of economic distress in the country.

Khan was arrested during a court appearance in Islamabad over corruption allegations, after months of a political crisis.

Musarrat Jamshed Cheema, a leader of Khan’s Pakistain Tehrik-e-Insaf
...a political party in Pakistan. PTI was founded by former Pakistani cricket captain and philanthropist Imran Khan. The party's slogan is Justice, Humanity and Self Esteem, each of which is open to widely divergent interpretations....
(PTI) party, confirmed Khan’s arrest on Tuesday to Al Jazeera.

"He went for his biometrics procedure from where he was picked by the Rangers," she said, referring to the paramilitary force.

Akbar Nasir Khan, a top police official in Islamabad, told Al Jazeera that Khan was arrested in a case related to al-Qadir Trust. The anti-corruption National Accountability Bureau had issued an arrest warrant against Khan on May 1 in relation to the case, he said.

Since his removal from power last year, Khan has been slapped with dozens of charges, all of which he denies and says are politically motivated.

Imran Khan’s lawyer accused the Rangers of hitting Khan on his head and kicking him before taking him away.

The 70-year-old cricketer-turned-politician was removed from power in April 2022, less than four years into his term as prime minister after he lost a confidence vote in parliament. Since then, he has been campaigning for early national polls, due in October this year.
