Sudan's military chief vows to account for Wad Madani withdrawal, slams political forces
[SUDANTRIBUNE] Sudan
...a Moslem country located in the Horn of Africa. It is noted for its affinity for rule by ex- or current generals, its holy men, and for the oppression of the native Afro population by its Arab conquerors. South Sudan, populated mostly by the natives, split off from Sudan proper, which left North and South Darfur to be oppressed by the guys with turbans...
’s Sovereign Council Chairman and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, has vowed to hold accountable those responsible for the withdrawal of government forces from the capital of al-Jazirah State, Wad Madani.

Addressing officers from the Red Sea Military Area, al-Burhan reaffirmed the armed forces’ commitment to remain unified, strong, and Sudan’s ultimate safeguard. He stressed the resolve of the regular troops to eliminate the "rebel Rapid Support militia".

In his first public remarks since the Rapid Support Forces’ surprise seizure of Wad Madani on December 18 following the government forces’ withdrawal, al-Burhan urged Sudanese citizens not to doubt the armed forces’ ability to protect them.

"Every soldier fulfils his duty with honesty and sincerity, and we will hold every negligent or retreating individual accountable," he declared. "Those who forced this withdrawal will also be held accountable without leniency."

Al-Burhan asserted that the underlying goal of this conflict is Sudan’s colonization by certain global and regional powers.

The army’s withdrawal from Wad Medani triggered a wave of public dissatisfaction across the country. On Tuesday, the army’s military front man issued a statement announcing an ongoing investigation into the reasons for the withdrawal and who made the decision. He pledged to release the investigation’s findings promptly.

In addition, al-Misbah bin Malik, commander of the Islamic Baraa Brigades, which is allied with the Sudanese army, released a video explaining that their withdrawal from Madani was due to a shortage of weapons and ammunition. He stated that he was carrying an unloaded Kalashnikov rifle.

In addition, al-Burhan delivered an unprecedented critique of unnamed political forces, alleging that they are employing the Rapid Support Forces to seize power in Sudan. He accused them of failing to condemn the Rapid Support Forces’ abuses against civilians in the country.

The Forces for Freedom and Change (FFC) sent a letter to al-Burhan on November 18, asking for a meeting to discuss a roadmap for ending the war, but he did not respond to their correspondence.

On the other hand, al-Burhan commended the gangs in Darfur that have joined forces with the Sudanese army. He announced that the army would work alongside them to protect the Sudanese people.

Al-Burhan reiterated the army’s determination to eliminate and crush the RSF, declaring that the army would emerge victorious in the end.

He acknowledged the possibility of negotiations with the paramilitary forces in the coming days, but emphasized that this does not signify the army’s surrender or the compromise of the army’s integrity.

Benin wants to 'rapidly' normalize ties with coup-hit neighbours
[AFRICANEWS] Benin wishes to re-establish ties with its core business partners in western Africa which have undergone unconstitutional regime changes.

President Patrice Talon revealed this in Porto-Novo during his state of the nation address in Parliament on Thursday (Dec. 21).

"We want a world free of war and terrorism. We believe in the peaceful coexistence of nations and peoples. It is this same logic that prompts me to express today our desire to see a rapid restoration of relations between Benin and countries where coups d'état have been used to undermine democratic processes."

Mali, Niger and Burkina Faso were listed among Benin’s 30 core business partners in the 2022 foreign trade report by the national institute of statistics and demographics.

Talon said his country's never cut ties with its neighbors.

"Benin's diplomacy has not failed to discreetly and repeatedly send messages to these brother countries, in particular Niger. We are convinced that there is a time to condemn, a time to demand, and a time to review what's happened and even duly note of it."

Patrice Talon however insisted that military leaders had to cooperate and disclose their intentions and their expectations regarding the international community.

Since 2020, four west African region were hit by coups.

Private Security Companies Supplement Naval Forces Defending Against Houthis
A taste:
[TheDrive] How armed contractors operate aboard ships and the ways they’ve been adapted to the eruption in hostilities around the Bab el-Mandeb strait.

Nearly every day, private armed security teams (PASTs) stationed on a floating armory somewhere in the Indian Ocean will get a message from supervisors at Ambrey, a U.K.-based firm specializing in maritime risk management. They are to grab their L1A1 SLR or Steyr Scout rifles and head out to a commercial ship sailing to the narrow and increasingly dangerous Bab al-Mandab Strait.

Once on board, the PAST will provide armed security, overwatch and help the crews take all the safety precautions possible for a trip through waters where U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said Iranian-backed Houthi rebels have conducted over 100 drone and ballistic missile attacks, targeting 10 merchant vessels in the past month. This is in addition to boarding attempts and even seizing ships outright. These activities are ongoing in a region that's already a piracy epicenter.

“Ambrey is operating somewhere between 500 and 600 transits a month in the Red Sea at this current time," said Joshua Hutchinson, a former Royal Marine commando now serving as the company’s Managing Director of Risk and Intelligence. “Clearly, there's a natural increase in demand because of the threat that is emerging in the market.”

Great White North
Canada to welcome citizens’ extended families from Gaza
That should make life up north even more interesting than it is now. Good luck, cousins!
[IsraelTimes] Canada will take in extended families of Canadians in war-torn Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It is currently ruled with an iron fist by Hamas with about the living conditions you'd expect. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response...
for up to three years, Immigration Minister Marc Miller announces.

The move, which is due to take effect on January 9, will allow Canadians to reunite with spouses or common-law partners, children and grandchildren regardless of age, siblings and their immediate families, as well as parents and grandparents.

Miller says the aim of the policy change is "to get people safe" as the humanitarian crisis has made Gaza "unlivable."

The government had previously focused on getting more than 600 Canadians, their spouses and children out of Gaza.

Miller estimates that it could see hundreds more resettled in Canada while fighting continues.

He stresses at a news conference, however, that it is "extremely difficult to leave Gaza and may not be possible for everyone."

"These are situations that are not under our control" and there is a "whole waterfall of scenarios where things could potentially go wrong," he warns.

Miller says he also ordered immigration officials to prioritize permanent residency applications for Paleostinians.

The newcomers will require documentation and security checks including a biometrics screening in Cairo before being allowed to board flights to Canada.

Ahmad al-Qadi, with the National Council of Canadian Moslems, told a separate news conference in Ottawa that many Canadians who fled Gaza in recent months had to make an "impossible decision to leave parents and siblings behind in a war zone because they don’t have citizenship."

He thanked the government of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau
...hereditary prime minister of the Great White North...
for expanding the eligibility criteria to Canadians’ extended families.

PTI to move Supreme Court with hope of relief for 'disqualified' Imran Khan today
[GEO.TV] With the hope of relief for the disqualified prime minister, the Pakistain Tehrik-e-Insaf
...a political party in Pakistan. PTI was founded by former Pakistani cricket captain and philanthropist Imran Khan. The party's slogan is Justice, Humanity and Self Esteem, each of which is open to widely divergent interpretations....
(PTI) Thursday announced moving the Supreme Court against the Islamabad High Court’s (IHC) verdict today (Friday) in the Toshakhana case of party founder Imran Khan
...aka The Great Khan, who ain't the brightest knife in the national drawer...
.

In another blow to the incarcerated PTI supreme leader ahead of the upcoming general elections, the IHC had earlier today dismissed his plea seeking suspension of the trial court’s verdict in the Toshakhana case.

As a result of the IHC’s ruling, Imran, the only prime minister to be voted out from office in Pakistain’s more than seven-decade-long history, remains disqualified from contesting elections.

The high court’s ruling came a day before the deadline to submit nomination papers for elections for provincial and national assemblies that are scheduled for February 8, 2024.

The 70-year-old cricketer-turned-politician was sent to jail for three years on August 5 after being found guilty of selling state gifts during his 2018-22 tenure as prime minister — charges he denies.

Pakistan demands UN probe into TTP acquiring advanced military equipment
[GEO.TV] Pakistain has demanded the United Nations
...boodling on the grand scale...
Security Council (UNSC) to conduct a thorough investigation to find out how the Tehrik-e-Taliban
...Arabic for students...
Pakistain (TTP) acquired advanced military equipment.

At the UNSC’s United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) briefing on Afghanistan, Ambassador Munir Akram — Permanent Representative of Pakistain to the United Nations — said Pakistain faced a major threat from the TTP and its offshoots for their organised cross-border terrorist attacks into the country.

He said the attacks caused considerable loss to Pak civilians as well as soldiers and damage to the military and other installations.

"We have lost hundreds of our brave soldiers and civilians in these attacks just this year alone and last week, TTP affiliated group carried out a heinous attack on our security personnel in Dera Ismail Khan
... the Pearl of Pashtunistan ...
, resulting in the loss of more than 23 precious lives.

"These attacks have become more lethal and sophisticated, since the TTP turbans have acquired and use advanced military equipment. These weapons obviously originate from the considerable stocks left behind by foreign forces. Yet, the question is: how did the TTP — a listed terrorist organization —secure these weapons.

Israeli Mom Whose Son Was Mistakenly Killed By IDF Sends Incredible Message Of Support To Troops
[WIRE] An Israeli mother whose 28-year-old son, a hostage taken by Hamas, was mistakenly killed by the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF), recorded an unforgettable message of support for the IDF.

Iris Haim, whose son Yotam was seized by Hamas terrorists from Kibbutz Kfar Aza on October 7, was killed on December 15 along with two other hostages, Alon Shamriz and Samar Talalka. The three men were mistakenly taken as a threat by the IDF, which is conducting an investigation.

But instead of condemning the troops, Iris Haim recorded this message of support:

Hello to the Bislach Brigade, battalion 17. This is Iris Haim. I am Yotam’s mother. I wanted to tell you that I love you very much, and I hug you here from afar. I know that everything that happened is absolutely not your fault, and nobody’s fault except that of Hamas, may their name be wiped out and their memory erased from the earth.

I want you to look after yourselves and to think all the time that you are doing the best thing in the world, the best thing that could happen, that could help us. Because all the people of Israel and all of us need you healthy.

And don’t hesitate for a second if you see a terrorist. Don’t think that you killed a hostage deliberately. You have to look after yourselves because only that way can you look after us.

At the first opportunity, you are invited to come to us, whoever wants to. And we want to see you with our own eyes and hug you and tell you that what you did — however hard it is to say this, and sad — it was apparently the right thing at that moment.

And nobody’s going to judge you or be angry. Not me, and not my husband Raviv. Not my daughter Noya. And not Yotam, may his memory be blessed. And not Tuval, Yotam’s brother. We love you very much. And that is all.

Classy and smart. RIP

Shin Bet says Iran trying to recruit Israeli spies on social media
[IsraelTimes] The Shin Bet security agency says it has uncovered new attempts by Iranian operatives to recruit Israelis over social media to carry out spying missions for them, in exchange for money.

The agency says the Iranian security elements contacted Israelis on various platforms in recent months, including X (formerly Twitter), Telegram, WhatsApp, Facebook, and Instagram, and using various deceptions, sparked an initial conversation.

It says the operatives posed as real estate brokers, people interested in the marketing of drones, people requesting photo shoots, people interested in online dating, people looking for private Sherlocks, courier services, and other false pretexts.

The operatives would then ask the Israelis to carry out various missions in exchange for money, which the Shin Bet says "are seen as apparently not relating to security aspects, but are definitely intended to serve the Iranians and enrich the intelligence in their possession."

It says the Israelis were asked to photograph various sites and verify addresses.

According to the Shin Bet, some of the Israelis did not carry out the tasks and notified authorities.

The Shin Bet says the attempts to recruit the Israelis are "a well-known method of operation of the Iranian security agencies."

It adds that since the beginning of the war in the Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks.
Strip, the agency has identified that "the activity efforts of Iranian security forces have greatly intensified, while using digital space for the purposes of intimidation, conveying messages or advancing terror activity."

"Its purpose is to assist Hamas
...the well-beloved offspring of the Moslem Brotherhood,...
in its war and to damage Israel’s national resilience and war effort, sowing demoralization and deepening social divisions," the agency says.

The Shin Bet says it has also identified social media pages posing as Israelis and "making cynical and manipulative use of the issue of the hostages, and even trying to act against families of hostages and bereaved families."

It adds that "a lot of information was collected about the identity" of the Iranian operatives behind the fake profiles.

Screenshots of conversations released by the Shin Bet appear to show an Iranian operative asking one of the Israelis to carry out the murder of an unknown target.

The Israeli is seen asking for 70,000 euros for the hit, while the Iranian says he will pay 10,000 euros upfront, and another 50,000 once the Israeli shows images of the dead victim.

The agency also releases an audio recording of an Iranian operative speaking in Hebrew, offering an Israeli victim 100 dollars for an unknown task.

Hamas says Israel's goal of eliminating it 'doomed to fail'
[GEO.TV] Hamas's military wing on Thursday said Israel's objective to eliminate the militant group in Gaza was "doomed to fail", more than two months into war triggered by attacks on Israel.

Abu Obeida, spokesman for Ezzedine al-Qassam Brigades, also said in an audio recording that any further release of hostages held in Gaza depended on a "cessation of aggression".

Neither Israel's continued offensive nor "direct military operations" would bring the hostages home, he said.

"It is not possible to release enemy prisoners alive except by entering into negotiations."

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Former Israeli diplomat presents: Here are some facts about the Israel-Lebanon situation
[IsraelNationalNews] Israel Nitzan, former Acting Consul General of Israel in New York, on Thursday ripped the UN after it published a report which detailed how the tensions between Israel and Lebanon have affected the Lebanese people, while making no mention of the fallout on the Israeli side.

The UN wrote in a post on X that more than 64,000 people have been displaced from south Lebanon and that many are struggling to meet their basic needs.

The post contained a link to the entire report, which provides details on Israeli air strikes in southern Lebanon which have hit residential areas. It also makes specific mention of the death toll in Lebanon since the start of hostilities, which Hezbollah began after the October 7 Hamas attack on southern Israel.

In response, Nitzan wrote, "Here are some extremely relevant facts missing in this shameful UN tweet:"

"1. There are also dozens of thousands of Israelis, who lived near the border with Lebanon, who are currently internally displaced in Israel, because of daily attacks from Lebanon deliberately targeting Israeli civilians. It’s shocking that a UN advocacy campaign would simply omit such an important fact, and focus only on the Lebanese side."

"2. Hezbollah, the main perpetrator of these attacks against our civilians, is an internationally designated terrorist organization. Hezbollah is an Iranian proxy. These "hostilities" are the outcome of a terrorist group targeting Israeli civilians. Israel is defending its civilians. An act of self defense."

Nitzan concluded the post by tagging UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, who has several times in recent weeks caused an uproar over comments on Israel.
