Chadians Vote For New Constitution To Return Country To Civilian Rule

#1  This one is hard to figure. You have the Toubou of the Borkou-Ennedi-Tibesti of the north; the Zaghawa and mixed Arab-African tribes of the center; and you have the African tribals in the south. The northern two have traditionally banded against the Africans. In sum, Chad is a fissiparous being that has never been a united polity and what a constitution will do to fix that problem is moot.

Britain
Hizbullah Says British Ban is an 'Insult' to Lebanon
[An Nahar] Hizbullah on Friday condemned Britain's decision to outlaw its political wing, describing the move as an "insult" to the Lebanese people.
Yeah, yeah. The Lebanese people have quite enough troubles at home, thanks to Hezbollah, without looking abroad for more.
Britain said Monday it would seek to make membership of the group or inviting support for it a crime.

The decision follows outrage last year over the display of the Hizbullah flag, which features a Kalashnikov assault rifle, at pro-Palestinian demonstrations in London.

"The British government has insulted the sentiments and the will of the Lebanese people by adopting this decision," the group said in a statement.

"The Lebanese consider Hizbullah to be a big political and popular force and they have granted it wide representation in parliament and government," it said.

Beyond Lebanon, the group warned Britain the move would "invite hostility from the people of the region," and would harm its role in the Middle East.

But British Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt said in a statement on Monday any distinction between its military and political wings "does not exist."

"This (decision) does not change our ongoing commitment to Lebanon, with whom we have a broad and strong relationship," he added.

Lebanon's Foreign Minister Jebran Bassil said senior British officials had agreed the issue should not "impact on bilateral relationships between Lebanon and Britain."

Bassil, whose Free Patriotic Movement is allied with Hizbullah in government, added it "will not have direct negative consequences on Lebanon because we are already used to this situation with other countries."

The move earned swift praise from the United States and Israel and on Thursday it was hailed by Saudi Arabia.

Caucasus/Russia/Central Asia
Riot participant at Makhachkala airport charged with attempted murder of a security officer
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[KavkazUzel] At least one of those arrested in connection with the unrest at the Makhachkala airport has been charged with attempting to kill a security officer, according to information from the Supreme Court of Dagestan. This article carries a penalty of up to life imprisonment.

The "Caucasian Knot" wrote that by December 13, it became known that about 150 people had been arrested in a criminal case regarding mass unrest at the airport, one of them was also accused of attacking a security officer. For most of those accused in criminal cases of participation in mass riots at the Makhachkala airport, the arrest period has been extended until the end of March , while almost no investigative actions are being carried out, and a number of those arrested are prohibited from visiting. One of those arrested, Gerey Dzhamalutdinov, claims that he was not at the airport, and security forces forced him to incriminate himself, but the investigation has not verified his alibi, said lawyers and a member of the public monitoring commission of Dagestan.

On October 29, mass riots occurred at Makhachkala airport due to reports of the arrival of a plane with passengers from Israel. More than 20 people were injured, including nine police officers. By November 25, the district courts of Dagestan had received administrative cases of 515 people, on which  protocols were drawn up on offenses during the anti-Semitic action and riots in Makhachkala; by December 1, 242 decisions on these cases were known. What happened at Uytash airport and how the investigation is proceeding is described in the Caucasian Knot report “ The Case of the Pogrom at Makhachkala Airport.”

One of those arrested in the case of riots at the Makhachkala airport is also charged with an attempt on the life of a security officer, Mediazona reported today* with reference to appeals to extend the arrest of the accused under the article of mass riots, which were received by the Supreme Court of Dagestan.

As follows from the information on the website of the Supreme Court of Dagestan, a complaint from five people to extend the arrest was received by the court on December 18. All those who appeal the arrest are charged under the article on participation in mass riots (part 2 of Article 212 of the Criminal Code of Russia, provides for from three to eight years in prison), only one out of five is also charged under Article 317 of the Criminal Code of Russia on encroachment on the life of a law enforcement officer (Article 317 of the Criminal Code of Russia provides for 12 to 20 years of imprisonment or life imprisonment). The case file indicates that the complaint was withdrawn from consideration. The names of those who filed complaints are hidden on the court’s website, and the texts of court decisions are also not provided.

From October 26 to October 29, mass anti-Semitic actions took place in the cities of three republics of the North Caucasus Federal District. In Cherkessk, protesters demanded that visitors from Israel not be allowed in, and in Nalchik a cultural center was set on fire. In Khasavyurt, hundreds of people gathered at the hotel after messages on social networks that there were refugees from Israel in this hotel, according to the Caucasian Knot report “ Anti-Semitic actions in the North Caucasus: how it happened .” The Caucasian Knot has also prepared a report entitled “ A Wave of Anti-Semitic Actions in the North Caucasus.”

Yusupov noted a decrease in the interest of Makhachkala residents in pickets for Palestine
“Waitaminit — we’re gonna be punished for rioting like pissed-off Moslems?! I’m outta here, dood!”
Passers-by and drivers today reacted less actively than before to the single picket of journalist Idris Yusupov* in support of Palestine. The picketer explained this by the emotional fatigue of the townspeople from the news about the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
“We riot and riot, but those damned Yids won’t stop. It’s winter, man — it’s cold outside!”
As the "Caucasian Knot" wrote, today the deputy editor-in-chief of "Chernovik" Magomed Magomedov held a picket in the center of Makhachkala in support of his convicted colleague Abdulmumin Gadzhiev, and journalist Idris Yusupov* went to the picket under the slogan: "Freedom for Palestine."

Muslims in the North Caucasus reacted sharply to the escalation of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. You can read about who and how in the North Caucasus Federal District expressed support for Palestine in the “Caucasian Knot” document “ Actions in support of Palestine in the North Caucasus .”

Journalist Idris Yusupov said that his solo action “Freedom for Palestine” began at 13.40 Moscow time and lasted for twenty minutes. The reaction from passers-by and drivers was at a fairly high level and more active than to a single rally in defense of Gadzhiev.

However, according to the journalist, the response to a single picket was lower compared to the first actions that he carried out in defense of Palestine. “It seems to me that the reaction was not as high as at the beginning (of individual actions in defense of Palestine), although in principle nothing has changed,” Yusupov* noted. He suggested that the reason for this was “people’s fatigue with the Palestinian agenda” and “the horrors of military operations.”

Also, in his opinion, the less active reaction to the picket in support of Palestine is due to the fact that the republic accepted Palestinian refugees. “Perhaps that’s why people calmed down, seeing that some steps were being taken. In fact, this tragedy continues and does not stop,” Yusupov* said. He added that the police officers behaved quite correctly and with restraint.

On November 21, the Dagestan authorities announced that they were ready to accept up to 200 refugees from Palestine, and 8.2 million rubles
...that’s only about US$90,000, not nearly as extravagant as is sounds in Russian rubles...
had been allocated for their accommodation. From November 25 to December 7, five groups of migrants from Palestine arrived in Makhachkala; they were accommodated at a recreation center near Makhachkala. Those who arrived will receive refugee status, the government of the republic announced. On December 11, the republican authorities reported that the issuance of Russian passports and other documents for 154 arriving migrants from Palestine had begun, and the issues of employment of adult Palestinians and education of children were being resolved. On December 23, 45 Russian citizens from among the refugees, whose documents were lost, received passports.

Despite the intensity of military operations, Dagestanis have become accustomed to the Palestinian agenda, says Makhachkala resident Abdulla . In his opinion, this kind of “emotional attenuation” occurs not only in relation to the Palestinian conflict, but also to any other events that initially caused a large amount of emotion. “Initially you worry, and then you get used to both judging and getting used to the event itself. This is because the brain wants to save us from constant stressful moods,” Abdullah suggested.

The ongoing war in Palestine does not in any way affect the interest of Dagestanis in the events unfolding in the conflict. However, the events are no longer perceived as emotionally as they were during the first time the conflict escalated, agreed a resident of Makhachkala named Zhamal . According to him, he expected other countries to “stop Israel,” but this did not happen. He and his entourage continue to monitor developments around the conflict. “The interest, of course, has not decreased. There are fewer emotions and expectations from other countries,” noted Zhamal.

The police officers who arrived at the site of the single pickets behaved correctly, Magomed Magomedov told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent. After clarifying the passport details, they demanded an explanation from Magomedov regarding the fact of the single picket.

The reaction from passers-by and drivers was at a high level and even higher than to similar actions weeks earlier, Magomedov said.

He added that so far there are no prospects for resuming the publication of the printed version of “Chernovik”. “We continue to work with the electronic version,” Magomedov noted. If the editorial office has the opportunity to restore work at the previous level, the team will analyze which sites to give priority in further work, in particular, the printed version, he added.

According to colleagues, Gadzhiev is suffering because the newspaper voiced “inconvenient questions” to the authorities and security forces, according to the Caucasian Knot report “  Draft”: threats, criminal cases, murder of the editor-in-chief .”

Let us recall that the editor of the Chernovik newspaper, Abdulmumin Gadzhiev, as well as the head of the Ansar charitable foundation, Abubakar Rizvanov, and businessman Kemal Tambiev were arrested in June 2019 on charges of financing terrorism. On September 12, the court sentenced  Gadzhiev to 17 years in prison, Rizvanov to 18 years, and Kemal Tambiev to 17.5 years. The prosecution did not present convincing evidence in court, the defendants said in their final plea. Details of the case are collected in the Caucasian Knot material  “Golunov number two”: the main thing about the case of Abdulmumin Gadzhiev.”

Pakistan's foes bent upon creating fissures using religious, political vulnerabilities: COAS
[GEO.TV] Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir said Monday that enemies of Pakistain were hell-bent towards creating fissures using religious, ethnic, and political vulnerabilities.

In a statement, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said the army chief made the remarks while addressing a ceremony held at Christ Church in Rawalpindi in connection with Christmas celebrations.

The congregation welcomed the COAS and thanked him for sharing the festivity. Gen Munir wished Merry Christmas to the entire Christian community in the country.

The army chief expressed reverence for the religious community and stressed the need to promote greater interfaith harmony in society in order to follow Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah’s true vision of a united and progressive Pakistain, said ISPR.

The COAS noted: "Islam teaches us the lesson of peace, friendship and encourages interfaith harmony which is the need of the hour."

He stressed the importance of having correct perspective, truth, and knowledge-based opinions about national issues rather than following rhetoric and propaganda, to address complex challenges and issues.

"Enemies of Pakistain are hell-bent towards creating fissures using religious, ethnic and political vulnerabilities. We have to stand together [and] united to rise as a resolute and strong nation."

Bilawal vows to abolish 17 federal ministries if PPP voted into power
[GEO.TV] Pakistain Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari on Monday vowed to abolish 17 federal ministries if his party elected into power following general elections to save taxpayers' "Rs300 billion".

Addressing a public gathering in Nawabshah, Bilawal said the 17 federal ministries should have been devolved to provinces after the 18th Constitutional Amendment, Geo News reported.

The PPP chief said Rs300 billion was spent on the ministries and an Rs1,500 billion subsidy was given by the government to the "elites" in various sectors including energy, fertiliser and others.

Bilawal said his party would end the subsidy for elites to provide funds to labourers and farmers through cards, he said.

The 18th Constitutional Amendment was passed on April 8, 2010. It devolved multiple federal ministries and powers to provinces. It divested the president of all his executive authority and made him a ceremonial head of the state.

Calling the youth the future of the country, the PPP chief said old politicians are a thing of the past.

Bilawal said the country's issues could be resolved by burying the politics of "hatred and division".

He highlighted that the country is facing enormous challenges related to the economy and climate change.

Pledging to provide Pak youth employment opportunities abroad, the PPP chief said as a foreign minister he took measures to provide youth with overseas jobs.

OIC has failed, laments Hamas spokesperson
[GEO.TV] A Hamas
...a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth",...
spokesperson said the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has failed as Israel keeps bombing Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It is currently ruled with an iron fist by Hamas with about the living conditions you'd expect. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response...
despite numerous resolutions being passed by the forum of more than 50 Moslem countries.

During an interview on Geo News’ programme "Capital Talk", Hamas spokesperson Khaled Qaddoumi asked what good have the statements of OIC leaders done for the people of Gaza.

"Can’t Moslem states pressurise Israel to open the Rafah crossing?" he asked, stressing that the humanitarian crisis was spiraling every day.

Congressman Waltz sez U.N. Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) helping HAMAS
BLUF:
[Free Beacon] Waltz’s letter to U.N. secretary general António Guterres, sent Thursday and obtained by the Washington Free Beacon, comes on the heels of reports that employees with the U.N. Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA)—an aid organization that provides services in the embattled Gaza Strip—helped Hamas hide Israeli hostages seized during the terror group’s Oct. 7 attack on the Jewish state.
Waltz needs to get on board with the Two-State Solution (sarc).
One of the hostages was held "for nearly 50 days in the attic of an UNRWA teacher," while an "additional hostage was held by a doctor in Gaza," according to Rep. Mike Waltz (R., Fla.), who says he was "appalled" by Israeli media reports exposing UNRWA’s complicity in Hamas’s war crimes.
"Legal censoring" of this matter is likely soon to follow.
"These actions indicate a broader problem of U.N. officials and their complicity with these atrocities," Waltz wrote. "It suggests the deep radicalization of the Palestinian population beyond Hamas members, which appears to have little appetite or interest for living in peace with Israelis.”
UNRWA was Hunter's very next frontier.

#3  UN Oil-for-Food Programme, 1995, WIKI. Snippets: The programme also suffered from widespread corruption and abuse. Throughout its existence, the programme was dogged by accusations that some of its profits were unlawfully diverted to the government of Iraq and to UN officials. These accusations were made in many countries, including the US and Norway.[9]

Until 2001, the money for the Oil-for-Food Programme went through BNP Paribas, whose main private share-holder is Iraqi-born Nadhmi Auchi, a man whose estimated worth is about $1 billion according to Forbes estimates, the 13th-richest man in Britain according to The Guardian. Auchi received a 15-month suspended sentence for his involvement in the Elf scandal, which the British newspaper called "the biggest fraud inquiry in Europe since the Second World War", saying "Elf became a private bank for its executives who spent £200 million on political favours, mistresses, jewellery, fine art, villas and apartments".[10] Elf, an oil company, merged with TotalFina to become Total S.A. in 2003.

Duelfer Report

The Iraq Survey Group, which was tasked with finding evidence of weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, found that OFF saved the Iraqi economy from decline after the imposition of sanctions. Furthermore, the Iraqi regime found that it could corrupt OFF to get hard currency that could be used to manipulate the Iraq Sanctions Committee and undermine sanctions as well as to obtain more weapons.[23]

The final official version of the Iraq Survey Group report, known as the Duelfer Report, cited only France, Russia and China (countries who were also strongly anti-war) as violators who paid kickbacks.[citation needed] According to the report, the top three recipients of oil included Russia (30%), France (15%), and China (10%), which are all members of the UN Security Council.[24] The US received 2–3% of the oil.[25] US recipients included ExxonMobil, ChevronTexaco Corp. and the El Paso Corp.[26][verification needed] The list of US companies was originally censored by CIA lawyers, citing privacy issues,[27] but was later leaked.

As you may recall, The-Oil-For-Food programme was initiated under the Bill Clinton administration. Note the legal "censoring" in the para just above.
