Commander of an electronic attack squadron on San Diego-based USS Carl Vinson relieved of duty
[SD UT] Cmdr. William Coulter had been serving as head of Electronic Attack Squadron (VAQ) 136, which is known as the Gauntlets.

The Navy said that Cmdr. William Coulter is no longer leading Electronic Attack Squadron (VAQ) 136, known as the Gauntlets. He had been in the post for nearly a year when he was removed last week.

Coulter was replaced by Cmdr. Paul Ritter, who was scheduled to assume command of the squadron in April, the Navy said.

The squadron uses EA-18G Growler aircraft to provide airborne attacks. It is currently assigned to the carrier USS Carl Vinson, the lead ship in a carrier strike group. The carrier, which left San Diego in October, has been operating in the South China Sea in recent days, the Navy said.

"Commanding officers are held to high standards of personal and professional conduct," the Navy said in a statement referring to Coulter’s dismissal.

"They are expected to uphold the highest standards of responsibility, reliability, and leadership, and the Navy holds them accountable when they fall short of those standards."

The Navy typically does not provide a detailed explanation about why it removes someone from a leadership post.

In October, Capt. Danielle C. DeFant, commander of the San Diego-based cruiser USS Lake Erie, was relieved of duty. The Navy said it had lost confidence in her ability to command.

And in early December, Capt. James Harney was relieved as commodore of Amphibious Squadron 5, which is based in San Diego.

Harney had been arrested on suspicion of felony hit-and-run and felony DUI causing bodily injury on Nov. 22 after getting in a collision with another vehicle, according to Coronado police.

Ohio GOP Gov. Mike DeWine Vetoes Bill Protecting Kids from Transgender Experimentation, Trans Participation in Girls' Sports
[Breitbart] Ohio’s Republican Gov. Mike DeWine vetoed a bill on Dec. 29 that would protect children from dangerous and permanent transgender medical procedures and ban male-born transgender athletes from playing as females in girls’ and women’s sports.

The state legislature passed the Enact Ohio Saving Adolescents from Experimentation (SAFE) Act (HB 68) this month.

With the veto, the Republican governor broke from his own party, which overwhelmingly supported the measure. While the GOP-led legislature does have enough GOP seats to override DeWine’s veto, it is not known when or if this might occur, the Associated Press reported.

DeWine showed that he accepted the left’s hysterical claims that opposition to transgenderism causes trans kids to commit suicide.

The governor said he made his veto decision after speaking to medical providers and added, “I’ve also listened to youth and parents. Parents who have told me if not for this treatment, their child would be dead.”

DeWine said, “The consequences of this bill could not be more profound. Ohio would be saying the state, the government, knows better than the two people who love that child the most, the parents.”

DeWine went even further and noted that he is directing his administration to craft rules that would accede to the transgender lobby and try to head off any meddling by the legislature. He also implored the legislature to join him in affirming radical transgenderism for children.

“I invite members of the general assembly to meet with us to collaborate, to work with us,” he said.

“What we have found is there needs to be a process,” DeWine exclaimed while insisting he is hewing to the side of parents who want to transgender their children. “Ultimately, my decision here was protecting life, the life of these children.”

HB 68 was passed in the state House with a party-line 64-28 vote and in the Senate by 24-8. Only one Republican crossed the aisle to vote with the Democrats, GOP Sen. Nathan Manning.

DeWine has been an avowed opponent of protecting women’s sports from incursions of male-born athletes who claim to be transgender females.

President of the American Principles Project (APP), Terry Schilling, blasted DeWine in a statement released after the gov’s veto.

Women’s sports activist Riley Gaines also excoriated DeWine on her X account, calling him a coward and saying he supports “men in women’s sports and locker rooms & children being chemically and surgically castrated.”

And here I thought I've heard the most ridiculous excuses imaginable from "Pro-Palestinians"*.

*They're not actually. They just anti-Israel. Anybody who really cares about "Palestinians" would work to abolish UNWRA & force Arab states to absorb them.

John Kasich. He ran for president in 2000 and 2016. Ohio historically has supported Republicans who are fiscally conservative and socially moderate. Since 1990 we’ve elected George Voinovich, Bob Taft, John Kasich, and Mike DeWine, all of whom served the maximum two terms permitted by law.

CTH has been forecasting what is looming by next summer/fall.

"What happens when the USA is no longer subsidizing the illegal aliens? BIG PICTURE – It’s not an issue of political choice…. Because, what happens when the USA can no longer retain dollar value, and subsidizing illegal aliens is just not possible without the ability to borrow more dollars that are worth far less?..."

"Entire sectors like housing, education, healthcare, social services, transportation, infrastructure, law enforcement, public order… LOCALLY FOLKS, like in your back yard, depending on your proximity to the predators….. are going to be stressed to the point of failure. Our concept of “safety and security” needs to be re-evaluated."

Nasa's Juno set for closest flyby of Jupiter's volcanic moon Io in over 20 years
[GEO.TV] Nasa's Juno spacecraft is poised to make a historic close flyby of Jupiter's moon Io on December 30, marking the nearest encounter with the volcanic moon in over two decades.

Approaching approximately 930 miles (1,500 kilometres) of Io's surface, the mission aims to capture a wealth of data using Juno's instruments.

Juno's principal investigator, Scott Bolton, expressed the significance of this close encounter, stating: "By combining data from this flyby with our previous observations, the Juno science team is studying how Io’s volcanoes vary."

The mission seeks to understand the frequency of volcanic eruptions, the intensity of lava flows, and the connection between Io's activity and charged particles in Jupiter's magnetosphere.

This event follows Juno's 56 previous flybys of Jupiter, documenting close encounters with three of the gas giant's largest moons. A subsequent ultra-close flyby of Io is scheduled for February 3, 2024, maintaining a similar proximity to the moon's surface.

Juno, now in its third year of an extended mission, has been monitoring Io's volcanic activity from varying distances and providing unprecedented views of the moon's polar regions. The mission has also conducted close flybys of Jupiter's icy moons Ganymede and Europa.
