Report: Since war, Egypt has refused to send final payment it owes Israel for gas never transferred
[IsraelTmes] Egypt has reportedly been refusing for the past month and a half to send Israel roughly $8 million it owes Jerusalem for gas the latter purchased from Cairo but never received.

Egypt and Israel signed an agreement in 2019 in which Cairo agreed to gradually repay Jerusalem for half a billion shekels ($132 million) in gas it purchased but never received due to damages in Egypt’s gas fields.

The final payment was supposed to be sent last month, but Egypt has refused to transfer the money, according to the Kan public broadcaster, which doesn’t cite any sources.

Kan notes that Israel hasn’t publicly pressed Egypt over the payment as Cairo continues to be Jerusalem’s preferred mediator with Hamas

the apparent Israeli decision to leak the failed payment to the press indicates that frustration is mounting.

Britain
Top BBC presenter Gary Lineker urges boycott of Israeli sports, later deletes post
[IsraelTimes] Former soccer star retweets, then removes, call by boycott group for FIFA and International Olympic Committee to bar Israeli athletes.

The BBC’s highest-paid presenter, Gary Lineker, reposted a tweet Saturday urging FIFA and the International Olympic Committee to join a global boycott of Israel, sparking outrage from Conservative politicians and an antisemitism watchdog in the United Kingdom.

The post was no longer on Lineker’s feed on Monday morning, having apparently been deleted.

The post by the Paleostinian Campaign for the Academic & Cultural Boycott of Israel called on "all regional and int’l sports bodies to take an urgent stance on Israel’s grave violations of human rights
One man's rights are another man's existential threat.
and subject it to legal accountability measures."

The former soccer star was blasted by a number of Conservative MPs, who said the BBC should take action against Lineker for supporting the boycott campaign.

"Hamas

Well, there is that...
"We wait for international diplomat and foreign policy expert, Gary Lineker, to call this out soon," he added.
OUCH!
Meanwhile,
...back at the shootout, Butch cautiously raised his hat over the edge of the horse trough on the end of a stick......
the Campaign Against Antisemitism said Lineker’s call for a boycott came at a time of rocketing antisemitism.

"Gary Lineker has a lot to say about a lot of things, but antisemitism does not appear to be one of them," a spokesperson for the Campaign Against Antisemitism told The Times. "At a time of record levels of racism against Jews, not a peep. But he has found the time to amplify a call to suspend the world’s only Jewish state from international sports. His priorities are clear."

Lineker, who hosts the flagship soccer highlight show "Match of the Day," has been the focus of an ongoing dispute over the impartiality of the BBC, sparked by his criticism of the UK government’s asylum policy. The former England soccer player was briefly taken off air by bosses at the publicly funded broadcaster last year after comparing the launch of the Conservatives’ new policy to the rhetoric of Nazi-era Germany.

The BBC, the UK’s public broadcaster, has had to issue several apologies over its reporting of the Israel-Hamas war since the start of the conflict on October 7, at times rushing to publish unverifiable claims by Hamas and Paleostinian media.

The TV network has also faced widespread criticism, including from the British government, for refusing to call Hamas a terrorist group or its members murderous Moslems — a policy it has in common with many major international news organizations.

The UK has experienced a surge in antisemitic and anti-Israel activity since October 7,

UK to ban Sunni Islamist Hizb ut-Tahrir for antisemitism, promoting terror
[IsraelTimes] Home Secretary Cleverly notes that group, already banned in other countries, praised and celebrated October 7 Hamas
...the well-beloved offspring of the Moslem Brotherhood,...
attacks

Britannia’s interior minister James Cleverly said on Monday he had begun the process of banning the Sunni Islamist political organization Hizbut Tahrir
...an al-Qaeda recruiting organization banned in most countries. It calls for the reestablishment of the Caliphate...
, saying it was antisemitic and promoted "terrorism."

The group is already banned in Bangladesh, Egypt, Germany, Pakistain, and several Central Asian and Arab countries.

"Hizbut Tahrir is an anti-Semitic organization that actively promotes and encourages terrorism, including praising and celebrating the appalling 7 October attacks (on Israel)," Cleverly said, referring to the devastating massacres by Paleostinian terror group Hamas.

If a draft order laid before parliament by Cleverly is approved by MPs, the ban will come into force on January 19, making it an offense to support the group punishable by up to 14 years in prison. It can also lead to an asset seizure.

"Hizbut Tahrir’s praise of the 7 October attacks and associated incidents, as well as describing Hamas as ’heroes’ on their central website constitutes promoting and encouraging terrorism," a government statement said.

"Hizbut Tahrir has a history of praising and celebrating attacks against Israel and attacks against Jews more widely. The UK stands strongly against antisemitism and will not tolerate the promotion of terrorism in any form," it added.

Hizbut Tahrir’s long-term goal is to establish a Caliphate ruled under Islamic law.

Founded in 1953, it is headquartered in Leb
...an Iranian satrapy currently ruled by Hassan Nasrallah situated on the eastern Mediterranean, conveniently adjacent to Israel. Formerly inhabited by hardy Phoenecian traders, its official language is now Arabic, with the usual unpleasant side effects. The Leb civil war, between 1975 and 1990, lasted a little over 145 years and produced 120,000 fatalities. The average length of a ceasefire was measured in seconds. The Lebs maintain a precarious sectarian balance among Shiites, Sunnis, and about a dozen flavors of Christians, plus Armenians, Georgians, and who knows what else? It is the home of the original Hezbollah, which periodically starts a war with the Zionist Entity, gets Beirut pounded to rubble, and then declares victory and has a parade. The Lebs have the curious habit of periodically murdering their heads of state or prime ministers...
and operates in at least 32 countries including the UK, United States, Canada, and Australia, according to the UK’s Home Office.

The Islamist group has a few thousand supporters in the West Bank, where the Paleostinian Authority has also sought to clamp down on its activities.

UK police to assess war crimes claim by pro-Palestinian legal group against Israel
[IsraelTimes] International Centre of Justice for Palestinians files complaint with Metropolitan Police, whose force chief says will stick to ‘very clear’ guidelines on war crimes referrals

UK police said Tuesday that specialist officers will assess whether to open a war crimes probe into Israel’s war with Hamas, following a referral from an advocacy group for Palestinians.

London’s Metropolitan Police said its small war crimes team, which is hosted within its counter-terrorism command, would determine if any further action or formal investigation will be launched.

The Met, the UK’s biggest and best-resourced police force, confirmed it had received a “referral” last Friday “relating to allegations linked to the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict.”

“The information within the referral will now be assessed by specialist officers as part of a scoping exercise to determine whether any further action or formal investigation will be carried out,” a police spokesman said.

“At this time, there is no UK-based investigation into this matter, or any other matters relating to this particular conflict.”

The spokesman noted the assessment would be done using guidelines for probing possible war crimes crafted with the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), which makes the final decisions on prosecuting cases in England and Wales.

However, the CPS must seek permission from the attorney general — a senior government minister and the state’s chief legal advisor — over war crimes prosecutions.

Met Commander Dominic Murphy, who leads its counter-terrorism command, insisted the force would adhere to the “very clear set of guidelines which we use when assessing all war crimes referrals made to us.”

‘EVIDENCE DOSSIER’
The UK-based International Centre of Justice for Palestinians (ICJP) — an independent organization of lawyers, academics and politicians advocating for Palestinian rights — said it had filed a “war crimes complaint” with the Met.

The group said its investigators had handed the Met a 70-page “evidence dossier,” which detailed a range of alleged crimes by Israel in recent months.

Announcing the move, ICJP director Tayab Ali said they include attacks against properties, monuments, hospitals, and blocking humanitarian aid and basic necessities “to willfully cause great suffering or serious injury to body or health.”

The dossier also accuses Israel of “intentionally using starvation of civilians and deprivation of objects indispensable to survival as a method of warfare.”

It alleges complicity in that by “high-ranking Israeli officials and military personnel” as well as “nine named British citizens” serving in the Israeli military.

The file also includes “four British government ministers and officials alleged to have abetted these crimes.”

Caucasus/Russia/Central Asia
Relatives of riot participants at Makhachkala airport summoned for interviews
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[KavkazUzel] Elders and clergy are involved in preventive conversations with the relatives of participants in the riots at the Makhachkala airport, the administration of the Levashinsky district reported. The court held five residents of the area accountable for participating in the protest at the airport; two received arrest and three received fines.

The "Caucasian Knot" wrote that the courts of Dagestan received 901 administrative cases of offenses during the anti-Semitic action and riots in Makhachkala.

On October 29, 2023, mass riots occurred at Makhachkala airport due to reports of the arrival of a plane with passengers from Israel. More than 20 people were injured in the riots, including nine police officers. What happened at Uytash airport and how the investigation is proceeding is described in the Caucasian Knot report “ The Case of the Pogrom at Makhachkala Airport.”

Among the participants in the riots at the Makhachkala airport “there were also people from the Levashinsky district, against whom administrative measures have already been applied,” the district administration reported today on its Telegram channel. To prevent this from happening in the future, the district administration, “in cooperation with the clergy and the most authoritative elders among the population,” organized preventive work in the form of conversations with relatives of a participant in an unauthorized rally." During the conversations, they spoke about the “unacceptability of antisocial behavior” and the upcoming “administrative and criminal responsibility." District authorities reported on their Telegram channel that such work would be carried out "on an ongoing basis."

From November 3 to December 14, 2023, the Levashinsky District Court received six administrative protocols on violation of the established procedure for holding public events with interference with the operation of transport infrastructure (Part 6.1 of Article 20.2 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation), which provides for a fine of 10,000 to 20,000 rubles, up to 120 hours of compulsory labor or up to 15 days of arrest. Two people were arrested - Khabibula Hasanov for one day, Rasul Aliyev - for two days. Three more people received an administrative fine of 10 thousand rubles each. Another protocol was returned to the security forces due to violations committed during its preparation, as follows from court decisions.

By December 13, 2023, about 150 people had been arrested in the criminal case of riots at the airport, one of them was also accused of attacking a security officer.

For most of the accused, the arrest period  has been extended until the end of March, while almost no investigative actions are being carried out, and several of those arrested are prohibited from visiting. One of those arrested, Gerey Dzhamalutdinov, claims that he was not at the airport, and security forces forced him to incriminate himself, but the investigation has not verified his alibi, said lawyers and a member of the Public Monitoring Commission of Dagestan.

as a "full-on Nazi," and Turkey as a "dark dictatorship."

Sagiv Jehezkel celebrated his equalizer goal in Sunday’s 1-1 draw against Trabzonspor in the top Ottoman Turkish league by making a heart sign with his hands to the camera and showing his wristband, which had the words "100 days. October 7" along with a Star of David symbol. The 132 hostages remaining in captivity in the Strip have been held there for 100 days after being kidnapped by Hamas-led gunnies on October 7.

The gesture did not go down well in Turkey, a country that hosts top Hamas officials and whose leaders have taken a highly hostile approach against Israel during the ongoing war.

Ottoman Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya said Sagiv Jehezkel, 28, a player for Antalyaspor, flew out of the country after being detained Sunday, appearing in court and being released earlier Monday pending trial. Proceedings will continue against the Israeli, but Ottoman Turkish authorities allowed him to leave.

"Turkey is always on the side of all the oppressed and the Paleostinian people," Yerlikaya said in a social media post.

Israel furiously condemned Jehezkel’s detention, sending already strained relations between the two regional powers to a new low.

The Antalyaspor club, which at first feted Jehezkel’s goal and posted photos of the celebration on X, formerly Twitter, deleted the post a short while later after being met with a torrent of criticism and demands to oust him from the team.

The club promptly suspended Jehezkel, and its president Sinan Boztepe said it would terminate his contract since he had "acted against the sensitivities of Antalya, Antalyaspor and our country" — a move that Israel’s Channel 12 news said would cost the team over $1 million.
It’s only right that they pay for their pleasures, though Jew-hating can turn out to be shockingly expensive — as Harvard and Spain have discovered the hard way.
The Ottoman Turkish Football Federation (TFF) condemned the "completely unacceptable behavior" of Jehezkel, and said it found Antalyaspor’s decision to exclude him from the team "appropriate."

“When there was an earthquake in Turkey less than a year ago, Israel was the first country to stand up and extend aid that saved the lives of many Turkish citizens,” Defense Minister Yoav Gallant wrote on X. “The scandalous arrest of the soccer player Sagiv Jehezkel is an expression of hypocrisy and ingratitude. Through its actions, Turkey serves as the executive arm of Hamas.”

This is not the first time the Gaza war has been an issue for Israeli players in the Turkish soccer league.

Weeks after the outbreak of the war, Jehezkel and his Arab Israeli teammate Ramzi Safouri sat out a game after the league held a moment of silence in solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza — without any mention of Hamas’s brutal onslaught on Israel that triggered the war.

Second Israeli soccer player detained and released by Turkish authorities, slated to return to Israel

[IsraelTimes] A second Israeli soccer player in Turkey has been detained by Turkish authorities over expressing solidarity with the hostages in Gaza.

Eden Kartsev has subsequently been released and is slated to return to Israel, Hebrew media reports.

Istanbul’s top-flight side Basaksehir said earlier that it was launching a disciplinary investigation into Kartsev for reposting a social media message about the hostages reading: “Bring Them Home Now.”

International-UN-NGOs
Israel forbids doctors from speaking to UN group investigating Oct. 7 atrocities
[IsraelTimes] The Health Ministry on Monday instructed members of the healthcare system not to cooperate with the Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, and Israel, citing its perceived anti-Israel stance.

In recent weeks, senior physicians and hospital staff who treated October 7 victims and released hostages have received letters and emails from the commission, which operates under the UN Council for Human Rights. The commission requested information and interviews for its investigation of international and gender-based crimes since the beginning of the current Israel-Hamas war.

The findings of the commission’s investigations will be presented in its reports to the Human Rights Council in June and to the UN General Assembly in October.

Israel’s Kan public broadcaster reported that the Justice Ministry instructed the legal department of the Health Ministry to tell Israeli doctors and others involved in the care of October 7 victims and released hostages not to speak with the committee of inquiry.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lior Haiat called the commission "an anti-Israeli and antisemitic body" and said Israel would not cooperate with it.

When asked by The Times of Israel what these claims were based on, Haiat said, "The commission of inquiry is there to investigate Israel without any time limits, unlike any other commission of inquiry from the UN system."

"Furthermore, the three people chosen to head it are famous antisemitic and anti-Israel people," Haiat added.

The commission’s chair is Navanethem (Navi) Pillay from South Africa, who served as UN High Commissioner for Human Rights from 2008 to 2014 and is currently a judge ad hoc of the International Court of Justice (ICJ).

The commission’s other leaders are Miloon Kothari from India, the first UN Special Rapporteur on adequate housing, and Chris Sidoti from Australia, an international human rights consultant and an expert in national human rights institutions and international human rights law and mechanisms.

All three have made statements in the past that Israel has deemed to be incorrect, offensive, or defamatory regarding the Jewish state or the global Jewish community, or both.
Muslems start wars. Muslems lose wars they start. The UN saves them from the consequences.

Iraq to take legal measures against Iran following deadly Erbil attack

’ Seucrity Council, following a deadly attack with ballistic missiles on Erbil province the night before.

In the late hours of Monday, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) launched 10 ballistic missiles towards the Kurdistan Region’s capital Erbil, under the pretext of targeting "spy headquarters" of anti-Iran

groups, killing at least four and wounding 17 others.

In a statement on Tuesday morning, the Iraqi foreign ministry said that it strongly condemns and denounces "the Iranian aggression" against Erbil, which resulted in civilian casualties, labeling the attack "a violation" of Iraqi illusory sovereignty.

At least five of the missiles targeted the residence of Peshraw Dizayee, a well-known Kurdish businessman. Dizayee and his 11-month-old daughter were killed as a result of the attack.

Baghdad "considers this behavior an aggression against the illusory sovereignty of Iraq and the security of the Iraqi people, and an insult to good neighborliness and the security of the region, and confirms that it will take all legal measures against it, including submitting a complaint to the Security Council," read the statement.

The ministry added that Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudan

It is noted for its affinity for rule by ex- or current generals, its holy men, and for the oppression of the native Afro population by its Arab conquerors. i has directed forming a security committee to investigate the incident and "support the [Iraqi] government’s stance internationally."

Iraqi state media reported around an hour later that National Security Advisor Qasim al-Araji was heading a high-level security delegation to Erbil to assess the aftermath of the Iranian bombardment.

Earlier in the day, Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani condemned in the strongest terms the "cowardly attack on the people of the Kurdistan Region," urging the Iraqi federal government to "take a principled position against the flagrant violation of Iraq’s and the Kurdistan Region’s illusory sovereignty."

Iraqi President Abdul Latif Rashid on Tuesday morning condemned the Iranian attack as a "violation" of the country’s illusory sovereignty.

"Resolving issues is done through constructive dialogue, not through military attacks that threaten the stability of Iraq and the entire region which is witnessing escalations that need to be deescalated," said Rashid in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

The United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) condemned the attack, stressing that strikes violating Iraq’s illusory sovereignty "must stop."

"Security concerns must be addressed through dialogue, not strikes," said UNAMI.

The IRGC grabbed credit for the strike on Monday evening, claiming to have targeted "spy headquarters and gatherings of anti-Iran groups" in Erbil. In a later statement on early Tuesday, the IRGC claimed that "three Mossad bases" were targeted in the Erbil bombardments.

The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has categorically rejected the presence of Israeli intelligence in the Kurdistan Region.

Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani last week said that the Region will not become a "source of threat" to Iran, amid threats by the IRGC to launch attacks on Erbil for allegedly housing secret Mossad bases.

In late December, KRG spokesperson Peshawa Hawramani reiterated that there are no Israeli bases in the Kurdistan Region, a day after a pro-Iran militia claimed it had struck an Israeli base in Erbil with a drone.
The Times of Israel adds:
Iraq recalled its ambassador from Tehran for consultations and summoned Iran’s chargé d’affaires in Baghdad on Tuesday in protest over Iranian strikes on northern Iraq that killed several civilians overnight, the Iraqi Foreign Ministry said.

Iran fired missiles late Monday at what it said were Israeli “spy headquarters” in an upscale neighborhood near the sprawling US Consulate compound in Erbil, the seat of Iraq’s northern semi-autonomous Kurdish region, and at targets linked to the extremist Islamic State group in northern Syria.

Iran’s Revolutionary Guard said in a statement Tuesday that it launched four Kheibar missiles at IS positions in Idlib in Syria and 11 precision ballistic missiles at the Kurdish region in northern Iraq, where it said it hit a center of Mossad, the Israeli intelligence agency. Iraqi officials denied that the building was related to Mossad, with Iraqi National Security Adviser Qassem al-Araji dismissing the “false” claim.

“Concerning the alleged presence of a headquarters of Israel’s Mossad, we visited the house, we inspected every corner of it and everything indicated that it was the family home of an Iraqi businessman,” Araji told Kurdish television station K24 after touring the building that was hit.

reportedly held a frustrating meeting today with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and senior military officials who rejected the US request to expand the amount of humanitarian aid entering Gaza.

Satterfield sounded the alarm over what the US views as a deepening humanitarian crisis in Gaza, the Kan public broadcaster reports without citing any sources.

Netanyahu responded that, actually, there is no humanitarian crisis in Gaza, pointing to footage showing several open-air markets that are filled with people and supplies being sold.

Aid agencies note that such scenes are not proof of a stable humanitarian environment, adding that the entire population of the Strip "are in crisis or worse levels of acute food insecurity."

Netanyahu told Satterfield that the problem is not the amount of aid entering Gaza — 218 trucks today — but the manner in which it is being distributed.

While he has avoided admitting this publicly, Kan says Netanyahu told Satterfield that the aid entering Gaza is being diverted by Hamas
...a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth",...
, which is controlling its distribution and prioritizing aid for its fighters, leaving little for civilians.

Shin Bet unveils Iranian plot to trick Israelis into giving info on defense officials
[IsraelTimes] Espionage operation included fake social media pages urging users to photograph homes of brass hats and rallies for release of hostages, tried to gather intel via fake surveys

The Shin Bet security agency on Monday revealed attempts by Iranian intelligence services to spy on Israeli defense officials and gather information on civilians by using fake social media pages related to the ongoing war and the hostages held by Death Eaters in the Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It is currently ruled with an iron fist by Hamas with about the living conditions you'd expect. Strip.

According to the Shin Bet, Iranian operatives, using fake online profiles, tasked Israelis with photographing the residences of Israeli defense officials and other officials who appear frequently in the media and speak out publicly against Iran.

Using fictitious social media pages and websites, the Iranian operatives also initiated gatherings near the homes of the families of the hostages kidnapped by Hamas
...a regional Iranian catspaw,...
and had bouquets of flowers and messages sent to their homes, the Shin Bet said.

The agency said that the Iranian operatives had taken advantage of the protests in support of the hostages by having Israelis hang signs relating to the issue that had been written by them, as well as asking them to photograph the demonstrators.

The pages also asked Israelis to fill out surveys, which would require victims to give out personal information. The Shin Bet said this was an attempt to collect further information on Israeli civilians, to later use them to carry out various tasks.

The social media profiles — on Instagram, Telegram and TikTok — included pages posing as those of far-right activists and supporters of releasing the hostages, as well as a page named Kan+, impersonating the Kan public broadcaster.

The operation revealed on Monday was run by the same Iranian network behind attempts uncovered last month to recruit Israelis over social media to carry out spying missions, including an liquidation, in exchange for money.

In that operation, individuals affiliated with Iranian security services contacted Israelis on various platforms and sparked an initial conversation using various deceptions. They then asked their marks to perform tasks such as photographing various sites and verifying addresses.

The attempts to recruit the Israelis are a "well-known method of operation of the Iranian security agencies," the Shin Bet explained.

It added that since the beginning of the war in the Gaza Strip in October, the agency has identified that "the activity efforts of Iranian security forces have greatly intensified, while using digital space for the purposes of intimidation, conveying messages or advancing terror activity."

"Its purpose is to assist Hamas in its war and to damage Israel’s national resilience and war effort, sowing demoralization and deepening social divisions," the agency said.

The plans recently uncovered by the Shin Bet are not the first instances of Iranian operatives trying to target Israelis via social media.

In July of last year, the Shin Bet said it had uncovered an Iranian phishing campaign against Israeli civilians, mostly targeting state employees and researchers, in a bid to obtain intelligence on state policy.

According to the agency, Iranian operatives would contact Israeli targets on LinkedIn while posing as acquaintances, and the conversation would move to an email, where the operatives would either invite them to a conference by sending them a document with further details or sharing a research paper.

In 2021, something similar was attempted, and Iranian operatives were found to have attempted to lure Israeli academics, business people and former defense officials abroad, in an effort to kidnap or otherwise harm them.

At the time, the Shin Bet said the operatives used spoofed emails, pretending to be academics, journalists, businessmen and philanthropists.

Gaza tunnels stretch at least 350 miles, far longer than past estimate – report
[IsraelTimes] Senior Israeli defense officials tell NY Times there are some 5,700 separate shafts leading to Hamas
...the braying voice of Islamic Resistance®,...
’s underground network under the Strip, which is only 140 square miles

Senior Israeli defense officials now assess that Hamas’s Gazoo tunnel network is between 350 and 450 miles long, far longer than previously believed, according to a Tuesday report.

The estimate reported by The New York Times

...which still proudly displays Walter Duranty's Pulitzer prize...

is markedly higher than an Israel Defense Forces’ assessment last month that there are some 250 miles of Hamas tunnels under the Gaza Strip, and an astounding figure given the enclave is only some 140 square miles in total size.

The newspaper quoted Israeli intelligence officials estimating there are around 100 miles of tunnels under Khan Younis in southern Gaza, where IDF troops are engaged in intensive fighting as they search for Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar and other terror commanders believed to be hiding underground.

Two Israeli defense officials who spoke anonymously said there were roughly 5,700 separate shafts leading down to the tunnels.

The report stressed that the estimates could not be independently confirmed and noted there are different assessments among Israeli officials on the extent of the subterranean passages.

Since launching a ground offensive following in the wake of the October 7 massacres, in which Hamas-led hard boyz killed some 1,200 people and took around 240 hostages, Israeli forces have worked to destroy the tunnels, uncovering more and more of the Gaza-ruling terror organization’s underground network. A defense official told the Times that this task has grown easier as the ground offensive pushes deeper in the Strip.

The official said the IDF previously may have needed a year to detect a single tunnel, but is now able to do so much quicker as a result of the vast reams of intelligence gathered in Gaza during the ground campaign, finding details on the computers of Hamas operatives involved in the digging and discovering a list of families that "hosted" tunnel shafts in their homes, among other information.

The official said the IDF has also figured out about the "triangle" system, with troops likely to find tunnels below an area with a school, hospital or mosque.

The official cautioned that it could take years to dismantle the tunnels, noting that underground passages must be mapped and checked for booby traps and hostages before Israeli forces can destroy them.

Additionally, the report highlighted the different types of tunnels that Israeli forces have come across in Gaza, such as those used for fighting or manufacturing weapons. There are also differences in quality, with the more sophisticated tunnels slated for senior figures and rudimentary ones for fighters.

Last week, the IDF said Hamas has used more than 6,000 tons of concrete and 1,800 tons of steel for its extensive tunnel network, citing new intelligence. It also said Hamas likely invested tens of millions of dollars in the project.

Several hostages freed in a ceasefire deal in late November described being held inside tunnels, which Hamas has laid throughout the Gaza Strip and which Israel says have long been used to smuggle weapons and fighters throughout the enclave.

It is believed that 132 hostages kidnapped by Hamas on October 7 remain in Gaza — not all of them alive — after 105 civilians were released from Hamas captivity during the late November truce. Four hostages were released prior to that, and one was rescued by troops. The bodies of eight hostages have also been recovered and three hostages were mistakenly killed by the military. The IDF has confirmed the deaths of 25 of those still held by Hamas, citing intelligence and findings obtained by troops operating in Gaza.

-led attack on October 7, which killed 1,200 people, mostly civilians. Attackers succeeded in disabling the high-tech Gaza border fence, allowing some 3,000 murderous Moslems to stream across the boundary from Gaza and carry out massacres in southern Israeli regions.

Mahadi said he joined the PIJ in around 2010 and was in charge of a unit that specialized in using mortars and rockets, engineering, sniper techniques and anti-tank missiles. The PIJ is a Gaza terror group aligned with Hamas.

"My commander called me and said that I should go to Iran for a sniper course, I will benefit from it and my salary will increase when I return," Mahadi recalled, in the excerpts from the interrogation provided by the Shin Bet.

. After two weeks, we went from Syria to Iran," he said, noting he was given $1,000 dollars to cover expenses.

"In Iran, the course was 15 days. It had physical fitness training and shooting training on different types of weapons," Mahadi added.

Mahadi said that they spent four days training on Kalashnikov rifles up to distances of 100 meters, another five days up to 150 meters, and then six days training on Dragunov sniper rifles up to distances of 300 meters.

The training was at an Iranian military base, he said though he did not recall the name or location. Instructors were "Iranian soldiers, they were wearing uniforms," he added.

Mahadi said other Islamic Jihad operatives also underwent rocket training in Iran. He trained with 15-20 other PIJ operatives, from Gaza, Lebanon and Syria. In the published video, Mahadi did not say when the training took place.

In late October, The Wall Street Journal reported that hundreds of Paleostinian murderous Moslems underwent military training in Iran in the weeks leading up to the October attack. The newspaper, citing "people familiar with intelligence" surrounding the brutal onslaught, reported that 500 members of both Hamas and Islamic Jihad took part in training led by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

Iran has welcomed the Hamas assault but denies it played a role in its planning.

Hours before the report was published, IDF front man Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari pointed a finger directly at Iran for helping to plan the October 7 assault. Hagari said at a presser that Iran had directly aided Hamas "before the war, with training, supplying weapons, money and technological know-how." Even now, he said, "Iranian aid to Hamas continues in the form of intelligence and online incitement against the State of Israel."

Science & Technology
IDF's tech weapons evolution reveals innovative ammunition in Hamas war
[Jpost] There is more to war than meets the public eye. Even if it appears that advances on the battlefield are slow, processes behind the scenes can lead to innovations in military tactics, weapons, vehicles, and even the structure of military units.

During the first 100 days of the Israel-Hamas War, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has had to adjust to the demands of a months-long ground offensive that has led them deeper and deeper into the heart of Gaza.

Now, the IDF has revealed some of its innovative accomplishments over the first three months of the war. These encompass all forms of warfare: at sea, on land, and in the air, both for regular and reserve forces.

MEDICAL INNOVATIONS THAT SAVE LIVES - EVEN IN THE DEPTH OF THE STRIP
In recent weeks, IDF Medical Corps personnel have introduced a variety of new medical capabilities tailored to the nature of field combat and changing conditions. For example, Medics and paramedics accompanying soldiers inside the Gaza Strip will include 60,000 doses of whole blood sacks in their equipment.

Although most patients receiving transfusions do not need all of these elements, whole blood can make a huge difference when treating wounded troops on the battlefield.

LATEST WEAPONRY USED IN GAZA
In the depths of Gaza and in the most crowded places, new combat measures have come into use - the Iron Sting mortar, “Ido” night vision goggles, “Holit” shoulder-fired missiles, and more. IDF soldiers are using them for the first time during this conflict, and a huge effort is being made to integrate them into all necessary combat units.
Details at the link for all these points.
DIVISIONS AND UNITS OPERATING FOR THE FIRST TIME IN GAZA
For the first time since 2005, the IDF's Kfir Infantry Brigade is operating in the Gaza Strip. Additionally, the 5th Reserve Division and Multidimensional Unit (Unit 888 “Refaim”) are also operating in Gaza for the first time. Forces are fighting against Hamas terrorists, locating and destroying the underground tunnels of the terror organization. In addition, for the first time, the Caracal combined unit of both male and female soldiers is operating in the Strip.

FIRST OPERATIONAL USE OF ARROW 3 MISSILE SYSTEM
On October 31, a surface-to-surface missile fired into Israeli territory from the Red Sea by Yemen's Houthis was successfully intercepted by the new "Arrow (Hetz) 3" long-range defense system, entering its first operational use.

'DUMB BOMBS' USED FOR FIRST TIME IN OPERATIONAL ACTIVITY
As part of the fighting in the Gaza Strip, the Adir fighter jet 140 Squadron (Golden Eagle) and Squadron 116 (Southern Lions), carried out attacks for the first time using “dumb” (unguided) bombs of the Joint Direct Attack Munition (JDAM) system attached to the wings of the planes. Israel is the first country in the world to use them in operational activity.

SMASH FIRE CONTROL SYSTEM CHANGING THE BATTLEFIELD
Weighing less than its predecessors, SMASH Fire Control System (FCS) assault rifles sights identify an enemy within seconds and can lock onto targets and assist in their elimination. Entering the battlefield in its new form during the Gaza War, the SMASH electro-optic system by the Israel-based Smartshooter company can improve the chances of hitting an enemy fourfold.

SAAR 6 BATTLESHIPS ATTACK GAZA
Cutting-edge Saar 6 battleships were used in October to attack Gaza for the first time. Attacks from the INS Oz and INS Magen struck Hamas weapons assembly infrastructure as well as positions and lookout posts for the terrorist group’s naval commandos. The naval vessels have 18 different advanced technological and precision combat systems onboard, much of which was developed in Israel; three of them have become fully operational over the last six months.

LOTAR FORCES JOIN THE OFFENSIVE
Counter-terrorism special unit LOTAR (lohamah b’terror – combatting terrorism) joined the ground offensive in Gaza also for the first time during this war. For the first time their squadron is fighting in the Strip and performing missions at the front of the force.

NEW MIXED BATTALION OF FEMALE SOLDIERS AND SEARCH AND RESCUE
During the ground maneuver of the campaign, soldiers from the Search and Rescue Brigade are being integrated together with other military units on the ground, such as the Commando Brigade or Nahal, and units such as the Oketz (sting) canine unit, with the aim of hitting Hamas infrastructure, eliminating terrorists, and locating weapons and tunnels.

Although Search and Rescue units have been deployed in Israel's military operations in the past, this is the first large-scale use of such troops. It is estimated that 40% of the unit inside Gaza is made up of female soldiers.

“NEGEV” GUN IN USE FOR FIRST TIME
The IDF introduced for operational use in Gaza the IWI (Israel Weapon Industries) Negev 7, a gas-operated machine gun. Using 7.62mm caliber bullets, the Negev offers superior wall and rubble penetration, which has become a main feature in the fight against Hamas in the heavily built-up civilian areas of Gaza.

ALL AIR DEFENSE SYSTEMS OPERATED TOGETHER TO DEFEND ISRAELI CIVILIANS
When over 3,000 missiles were launched toward Israel in the first four hours of the current war, all Israeli air defense systems operated at full force without pause. They include the US Patriot surface-to-air missile (SAM) system, The joint US/Israeli Arrow anti-ballistic missile system, Israel’s Iron Dome mobile all-weather short-range air defense system, and the Israeli David's Sling medium- to long-range aerial intercept system.

“HASHOMER” – A NEW RESERVE BRIGADE
After the events of October 7 and the huge call-up of reservists, the IDF introduced a new reserve brigade – the "Hashomer" (Guardian) 855 Brigade, which consists of reservists from a variety of units and focuses not on maneuvering or attacking but rather on the task of protecting the Gaza border settlements.

"THE PHOENIX" – A NEW TANK UNIT IN THE ARMORED CORPS
A new unit of tanks was added to the Armored Corps during the course of the war – the "Phoenix." Due to the growing demand for tank warfare within Gaza, the Phoenix unit was originally intended to back up tanks that had already entered the Strip, but Phoenix tanks have since been sent there, too, adding extra firepower.

#1  "The Caracal is a wild feline species found across Israel. The 33rd "Caracal" Battalion is an infantry combat battalion of the Israel Defense Forces that is composed of both male and female soldiers. The battalion was established in 2004 with the purpose of incorporating servicewomen into combat units and two-thirds of its members are female. Its main mission is to carry out routine patrols on Israel's border with Egypt.
