"First of all the hostages being held must be released. It gives us time to begin to move in directions that a lot of Arab countries are prepared to move in for example Saudi Arabia is ready to recognise Israel, Jordan is, and Egypt and six other countries," Biden said.

Biden underscored his efforts to foster recognition of Israel by several Arab nations, including Saudi Arabia and Egypt. He addressed criticism, stating, "I get criticised for having said a long time ago, you need not be a Jew to be a Zionist. I’m a Zionist," reiterating his longstanding support for Israel.

The revelation of Saudi Arabia's potential recognition marks a significant development in the diplomatic landscape of the Middle East.

UK government boosts security after lawmakers targeted for stances on Israel-Hamas war; over half of Tory party members believe Islam a domestic threat, gov’t boosts security funding for Jewish communities
The other red-green alliance: Moslems and the anarcho-communist syndicate. It wouldn’t have been a serious problem except y’all surrendered to letting them run wild in the name of political correctness after the first flush of indignation faded following 9/11.
[IsraelTimes] MPs should not ‘have to accept that enduring hate crimes, harassment, or threats [are] part of the job,’ interior minister says after surge in antisemitism and Islamophobia.

The UK government announced a multi-million-pound package Wednesday to boost the security of elected politicians who say they face increasing threats.

The £31 million ($39 million, or 36 million euros) in extra funding over the next year comes as some British MPs have been targeted over their stance on the war between Israel and Hamas

, which began with Hamas’s terror onslaught in southern Israel on October 7.

It also comes with the country due to head to the polls in a general election expected later this year.

Under the new provisions, politicians will have access to a dedicated police contact to discuss security while those most at risk could seek bodyguards, the interior ministry said.

The money will also expand cybersecurity advice to MPs and increase police patrols in areas witnessing heightened community tensions, the Home Office added.

"None of us should have to accept that enduring hate crimes, harassment, or threats [are] part of the job," Interior Minister James Cleverly said in a statement.

British MPs have expressed growing concerns about their safety amid a surge in antisemitic and Islamophobic incidents since the October 7 terror onslaught and subsequent war in Gaza.

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said MPs had been "verbally threatened and physically, violent mostly peacefully targeted," with "legitimate protests hijacked by Death Eaters."

Conservative MP Mike Freer, who represents an area of London with a large Jewish community, revealed last month that he would not seek re-election because of a spate of threats and an arson attack on his office.

Earlier this month, fellow Tory Tobias Ellwood said 80 pro-Paleostinian protesters had gathered outside his home, with police warning his family to "stay away" so as not to antagonize the crowd.

Last week, Commons speaker Lindsay Hoyle cited threats to politicians as a reason for his controversial handling of a debate about calls for a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas.

And on Monday, Labour MP Dawn Butter told the chamber that she had been forced to seek extra police support after suffering "far-right abuse."

UK politicians have long been wary of their security following the high-profile murders of two MPs in recent years, and are entitled to extra security at their homes and constituency offices under Operation Bridger, which was established in 2016 following the killing of Labour MP Jo Cox.

Over half of UK’s Conservative party members believe Islam a threat to British way of life

[IsraelTimes] Over half of the UK’s Conservative party members believe Islam is a threat to the British way of life, a new poll finds.

Fifty-eight percent of the 521 Tory party members surveyed by Opinium say Islam poses a threat to this country.

The figure is double the overall figure of those polled.
So overall among those who are members of a particular political party it is 29%, and among Labour it is — off the top of my head guesstimate — considerably less.
The survey also finds that 52% believe the conspiracy theory that certain areas in European cities are under sharia law and are off-limits to non-Muslims.
It’s not a conspiracy theory when looking at the de facto situation, O deliberately naive journalist.

UK government increases security funding for Jewish community

[IsraelTimes] British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak announces 54 million pounds ($68 million) of new funding to protect Jewish communities against antisemitism over the next four years.

Earlier this month, the Jewish advisory body, the Community Security Trust (CST), said Britain recorded thousands of antisemitic incidents after the outbreak of war between Israel and Hamas in October, making 2023 the worst year for UK antisemitism since its records began in 1984.

“It is shocking, and wrong, the prejudice, the racism we have seen in recent months,” Sunak says in a speech to the CST’s annual dinner, according to extracts released by his office.

“It is hatred, pure and simple. An assault on the Jewish people. We will fight this antisemitism with everything we’ve got.”

The government had already given the CST, which advises Britain’s estimated 280,000 Jews on security matters, 18 million pounds (some $23 million) for 2024-25, taking the total funding up to 2028 to 70 million pounds ($88.6 million).

The funding will be used to increase security at a range of Jewish buildings across the country, including schools and synagogues, the government said, providing measures such as security guards, closed-circuit TV (CCTV), and alarm systems.

Florida Senate unanimously passes bill to define antisemitism
[IsraelTimes] Antisemitism would be defined in Florida law under a bill the Senate unanimously passed today after its sponsor warned that an increase in acts against Jewish people will lead to extremism against other groups.

Florida is among several states seeking to define antisemitism. In Georgia, Gov. Brian Kemp signed a similar bill last month.

"Outbreaks of antisemitism can be a harbinger of deep societal trouble and reflect that extremism and violence are eminent. It is dangerous and unacceptable," says Democratic Sen. Lori Berman, the bill’s sponsor. "When there is hateful behavior against anyone, it can quickly become a societal endemic."

The bill language was taken from the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance. It defines antisemitism as "a certain perception of Jewish individuals which may be expressed as hatred toward such individuals. Rhetorical and physical manifestations of antisemitism are directed toward Jewish and non-Jewish individuals and their property and toward Jewish community institutions and religious facilities."

protesters at highway overpasses, antisemitic flyers in neighborhoods and antisemitic projections on buildings, including the Jacksonville Jaguars football stadium.

"This bill is one method to combat antisemitism," Berman says. "Defining it and codifying it makes a clear statement that we are going to identify, confront and call out antisemitism."

She said the bill doesn’t infringe on free speech rights and doesn’t prevent people from criticizing Israel as it would any other country. But by having it in law, it will allow law enforcement to use it when prosecuting hate crimes.

The House passed the bill last month, but would need to consider minor changes by the Senate before sending the measure to the governor. Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis’s office said he will review the bill once he receives

"I’m raising funds to provide security for our brother @matisyahu," Draiman, the heavy metal singer, wrote on X, formerly Twitter. "Him and his family have been relentlessly harassed during his current tour. Let’s help give him some security and safety in this difficult time."

Iraq
Turkey attacked Kurdistan Region, Iraq over 1,500 times in 2023: Monitor
[Rudaw] Ottoman Turkish armed forces conducted 1,586 attacks in the Kurdistan Region and Nineveh province in 2023, a conflict monitor told Rudaw on Wednesday.

Kamaran Osman, a member of Christian Peacemaker Teams (CPT), a human rights
...which are usually entirely different from personal liberty...
organization that monitors The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the occupiers of Greek Asia Minor...
's operations in the Kurdistan Region, told Rudaw’s Soran Hussein that the Ottoman Turkish army has attacked 1,548 times in the Kurdistan Region.

According to Osman Turkey launched 1,159 Arclight airstrike
...KABOOM!...
s with warplanes, conducted 228 drone attacks, and carried out 114 artillery shelling, in addition to being responsible for three shootings, and the earth-shattering kaboom of two landmines.

He specified that the province that witnessed most Ottoman Turkish attacks was Duhok which was struck 517 times, followed by Erbil province with 475 strikes, Sulaimani with 420 strikes, and Nineveh with 36 attacks.

According to CPT data, Ankara has killed at least 152 people and injured 228 since 2015.

Osman said that since 1990, about 850 civilians have been killed by Ottoman Turkish and Iranian airstrikes, with Ankara being behind the majority of the strikes.

Turkey frequently bombards the northern mountainous areas of the Kurdistan Region under the pretext of targeting Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) fighters.

On Tuesday, Ottoman Turkish warplanes targeted the abandoned Kafia village in Akre district, hitting four villagers who were tending to their farms in the vicinity of the area and killing two, according to their families who spoke to Rudaw.

"The strike was carried out by a Ottoman Turkish warplane," Sarbast Sabri, mayor of Dinara subdistrict where Kafia is located, told Rudaw’s Hunar Rashid.

The strike comes amid an escalation of violence between Turkey and the PKK after the gang killed 12 soldiers in the Kurdistan Region in late December, triggering an intensification of retaliatory attacks by Ankara on the PKK and its alleged offshoots in Syria.

At least seven Ottoman Turkish soldiers have been confirmed dead in the Kurdistan Region since the beginning of the year, according to the Ottoman Turkish defense ministry.

Civilians are often caught in the crossfire of the conflict between Turkey and the PKK. Many families have been forced to flee their homes in the Kurdistan Region's villages because of festivities, especially those in northern Duhok province near the border with Turkey, leaving entire villages empty. A Kurdistan Region parliamentary report published in 2020 said that the Turkey-PKK conflict has left over 500 villages empty across the Region.

Palestinian Authority FM says Hamas can’t be part of PA government for now
[IsraelTimes] Riyad al-Maliki says technocratic administration needed to rush help to Gazans because unity with terror group will lead to boycotts, but leaves door open to future cooperation.
So it’s taqqiya, then.
Paleostinian Authority Foreign Minister Riyad al-Maliki said Wednesday he believes Hamas
...the well-beloved offspring of the Moslem Brotherhood,...
understands why it should not be part of a new government in the Paleostinian territories.
They’re a sensible bunch, donchaknow. Always putting the cause before their own Muslim Brotherhood needs. Really.
Speaking a day before representatives of Hamas and the Fatah political faction dominating the PA were set to meet in Moscow for talks on forming a unified Paleostinian government, Maliki downplayed their chances for success and told a presser that a "technocratic" government was needed, without the Islamist terror group.

"The time now is not for a national coalition government," Maliki said.

"The time now is not for a government where Hamas will be part of it, because, in this case, then it will be boycotted by a number of countries, as happened before," he told the UN correspondents’ association.

"We don’t want to be in a situation like that. We want to be accepted and engaging fully with the international community," he explained.

On Monday, PA Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh announced the resignation of his government, citing the need for change after the Israel-Hamas war in Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. said the government will stay on in an interim capacity until a new one is formed.

Maliki said the priority was engaging the international community to help provide emergency relief to Paleostinians, and then looking at how Gaza could be reconstructed.
Give us all the moneys!
Maliki, who is in Geneva to attend the United Nations
...boodling on the grand scale...
Human Rights Council, said he hoped Hamas support for the technocratic government would emerge from unity talks scheduled to take place on Thursday in Moscow, with unity unlikely.

"Of course, we don’t expect miracles to happen in just a simple meeting in Moscow, but I believe that the meeting in Moscow should be followed by other meetings in the region soon," he said.

Despite US backing for Israel’s goal of destroying Hamas, Maliki indicated that Fatah was still open to working together with the terror group.
How, when Hamas is going to be disbanded and killed off?
"Later, when the situation is right, then we could contemplate that option. But what comes first is how to salvage the situation. How to salvage innocent Paleostinian lives. How to stop this insane war and how to be able to protect Paleostinian people," he said.

"That’s why I think Hamas should understand this, and I do believe that they are in support of the idea to establish, today, a technocratic government."

"A government that is based on experts, individuals who are completely committed to take up the reins and the responsibility for this period — a difficult one — and to move the whole country into a period of transition into a stable kind of situation where, at the end, we might be able to think about elections... [that] will determine the type of government that will govern the state of Paleostine later."

Scooped up by the remnants of Hamas (you know, the Gazooks that have the bombs and guns, plus aren't afraid to use them on their own people).

Trepidation and elation: Hundreds of evacuees from Shlomit return to their village near Gaza border
[IsraelTimes] Traveling in a convoy of cars, some 500 people are making their way from a hotel near Jerusalem to Shlomit, a town near Gazoo

whose 82 households were evacuated on October 7.

The population of Shlomit "has fears and concerns about security, but is also elated to be back," Yitzhak Elnekaveh, a 38-year-old father of five, tells The Times of Israel over the phone. Shlomit is one of several evacuated communities that have returned to the south in recent weeks.

Elnekaveh says he’s concerned over the prospect of an IDF withdrawal from the Gaza Strip, which he fears would leave Shlomit and other border-area communities vulnerable to another attack by the Hamas

terror group.

"Only a permanent presence — military or otherwise — in the Gaza Strip can ensure security here," says Elnekaveh, a lettuce farmer whose family was among the 18 founding households of Shlomit, a religious-Zionist village established in 2010 6.5 kilometers (4 miles) from the border.

Shlomit now has 15 orphans, the children of four of its members who were killed fighting murderous Moslems in neighboring Pri Gan. Some houses in Shlomit require restoration following rocket hits from Gaza, Elnekaveh says, estimating it will take months to repair the damage.

The government is expected this week to extend the eligibility of evacuees for state-funded accommodations, though potentially at the expense of benefits offered to returnees.

Masked men in Gaza enforce prices in street markets
Self-appointed vigilantes stepping up to fill a vacuum or Hamas pretending to be innocent civilians?
[IsraelTimes] Armed, masked men in Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. have started patrols to stop traders profiteering in Rafah, where more than a million displaced Paleostinians are taking shelter from Israel’s air and ground campaign, a member of the vigilante group says.

Nearly five months into the war, prices have soared in Gaza, with all commercial imports cut off when Hamas
...a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth",...
launched its terror onslaught on October 7, and only limited quantities of humanitarian aid coming in.

Most of Gaza’s 2.3 million people now live in Rafah near the border crossing with Egypt, mostly in tents and other temporary shelters, after fleeing the devastation in other parts of the enclave.

Photographs on social media show men in ski masks with hoods pulled over their heads standing next to market stalls. In one photograph, two of the men held assault rifles. In another photograph, six men brandished sticks.

The men with the sticks also had headbands with the slogan in Arabic: "The Committee of Public Protection."

A man who described himself as a member of the group, and whom Rooters contacted by phone, says their action was necessary to enforce law and order because Hamas police no longer patrolled the streets after being targeted by Israeli strikes.

Their actions were intended "to monitor the prices and punish those who exploit the needs of the people," says the man, who spoke on condition of anonymity, fearing Israeli reprisals.

The patrol is seen in a Rafah market today by Mohammad Abuemad, a 24-year-old university graduate who fled his Gaza City home early in the war and now lives in a tent.

He says police were a common sight in Rafah until recent strikes targeting them, and had been responsible for organizing the long queues outside bakeries, supermarkets, and banks.

Abuemad says he is concerned by the emergence of masked men enforcing public order. "Maybe they are good, but we hope they act fairly with people," he says.

"We would rather the war end so the real police force can come back," he says.

Israel to take several controversial moves expanding West Bank footprint in coming weeks
Israel was willing to trade land for peace with the Palestinians. But the Palestinians do not want peace, so now they get pay in land for their war.
[IsraelTimes] Channel 13 reports that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government will take a series of controversial steps in the coming weeks aimed at further expanding Israel’s footprint in the West Bank.

Tomorrow, authorities will designate 3,000 dunams (750 acres) of land near the Ma’ale Adumim settlement as "state land," in a step that will allow for the further expansion of the settlement.

Next week, the Defense Ministry’s High Planning Subcommittee will convene to advance plans for over 3,000 new settlement homes in Ma’ale Adumim, Efrat and Keidar, as announced last week by far-right Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich.

On March 20, Israel will designate another 7,000 dunams (1,730 acres) of land in the Jordan Valley as "state land."

Such designations are not recognized by the international community, which largely views the West Bank as occupied territory.

Job done? Retired reservists’ Phoenix tank unit disbands, for now

war since Oct.7; army sees its task as completed, but leader hints that it may yet rise again

A group of soldiers long since released from the army reserves who volunteered to breathe life into worn-out tanks that were then sent into combat, embodying the fighting spirit of Israelis after war erupted, has been disbanded, Channel 12 reported Tuesday.

The Phoenix Battalion came into existence when hundreds of former soldiers, who were no longer part of the army reserves, got together and, with the military’s initially reluctant blessing, repaired dozens of unused tanks, retrained crews, and formed combat units that participated in the ongoing campaign against Paleostinian terror group Hamas

in Gaza.

The idea was hatched by Dan Levit, a tech worker who serves as a major in the Israel Defense Forces reserves, three days after thousands of Hamas-led forces of Evil invaded Israel on October 7, butchered 1,200 people, and kidnapped 253 to the Strip.

Speaking to Channel 12 from the field where the unit was wrapping up its activities, Levit recalled that there had been "eyebrows raised" when the project started. Since then, many who doubted the proposal have said they have withdrawn their concerns and have praised the unit and its achievements, he noted.

Cpt. (res.) Danny Luria, another member of the unit, said, "I remember the first day I was on a tank and I said to myself, what am I doing here? I’m not sure I remember how it goes. And we became a very, very, very, serious gang and very professional."

In the days after the Hamas attack, Levit met with a fellow reserve officer, Erez Sa’adon, at Kibbutz Be’eri, one of the Gaza border communities worst hit by the brutal attack. Grasping that the army needed more tanks, the two men located a list of 95 vehicles that had been decommissioned by the military.

Armed with the list, Levit went from army base to army base and tried to move the aging war machines. The army provided technical personnel to check whether the tanks could be rehabilitated, concluding that it could make 10 of them operational within three days and that more could be made ready later on.

Phoenix was eventually able to set up five tank companies and train 370 crew members. The unit was deployed in border areas but was also involved in several operations inside Gaza itself.

According to the report, the army now sees the unit as having completed its task. The tanks they used will be integrated into an established reservist tank unit. Many of the Phoenix fighters have also volunteered to join other reserve units.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Public frustration at unrest and poor economy threatens turnout in Iran elections
[IsraelTimes] Officials have urged citizens to vote for parliament but unlike previous years haven’t released figures on expected turnout.

Iran
...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979. The nation is today noted for spontaneously taking over other countries' embassies, maintaining whorehouses run by clergymen, involvement in international drug trafficking, and financing sock puppet militias to extend the regime's influence. The word Iran is a cognate form of Aryan. The abbreviation IRGC is the same idea as Stürmabteilung (or SA). The term Supreme Guide is a the modern version form of either Duce or Führer or maybe both. They hate Jews Zionists Jews. Their economy is based on the production of oil and vitriol...
is holding parliamentary elections this Friday, yet the real question may not be who gets elected but how many people actually turn out to vote. Widespread discontent over the cratering economy, years of mass protests rocking the country, and tensions with the West over Tehran’s nuclear program and Iran’s support for Russia in its war on Ukraine have many people quietly saying they won’t vote in this election. Officials have urged people to cast ballots but tellingly, no information has been released this year from the state-owned polling center ISPA about expected turnout — a constant feature of past elections.
