Afghanistan
Taliban Vow to Help Afghanistan after Deadly Quake
[AnNahar] The Taliban Tuesday urged charity organizations not to hold back in delivering aid to Afghan victims of a devastating earthquake, saying hard boyz in the affected areas were ordered to provide "complete help".

At least 76 people were killed in Afghanistan after the powerful quake struck Monday in the Hindu Kush region, officials said, with fears that the toll could rise as the full extent of the devastation emerges.

Rescuers are battling to access some of the worst-affected areas across multiple provinces that are effectively under bully boy control, a huge challenge to any official aid efforts.

But the Taliban on Tuesday promised to pave access for aid organizations.

"The Islamic Emirate (Taliban) calls on... charitable organizations to not hold back in providing shelter, food and medical supplies to the victims of this earthquake," the group said on its website.

"It similarly orders its Mujahideen in the affected areas to lend their complete help to the victims and facilitate those giving charity to the needy."

Afghan disaster management officials say areas around the quake's epicenter in the remote province of Badakhshan, as well as neighboring provinces such as Takhar and Kunar, have suffered huge devastation.

Afghanistan's chief executive Abdullah Abdullah
... the former foreign minister of the Northern Alliance government, advisor to Masood, and candidate for president against Karzai. Dr. Abdullah was born in Kabul and is half Tadjik and half Pashtun...
said an initial assessment shows around 4,000 houses have been damaged by the powerful quake.

"Some 76 people including women and kiddies were killed and 268 others were maimed in the quake," he said, warning that the toll was expected to rise.

The United Nations
...an organization conceived in the belief that we're just one big happy world, with the sort of results you'd expect from such nonsense...
estimates that the Taliban's reach is the widest since 2001, with more than half of the districts across Afghanistan at risk.

The growing presence of Taliban fighters is hindering access of aid workers to earthquake victims in urgent need of help, the head of a Western charity told AFP.

"We have no presence in the affected areas, limiting our chances of a fair assessment of the security situation on the ground," he said on condition of anonymity.

Benghazi Libya Shield commander accused of ordering assassinations
[Libya Herald] Benghazi militant Islamist commander Wissam Ben Hamid has been accused of planning the murders of a Libyan National Army (LNA) tank commander Mahdi Al-Barghathi and the head of military intelligence unit in the city, Salah Bughaib

A video has been published on social media of phone calls allegedly between him and a man called Marwan Al-Saaiti in which Saaiti is offered LD 400,000 to act as the assassin using a bomb left at a particular location. However, in what was a sting operation, Saaiti worked with Barghathi, keeping him informed of the plot.

Ben Hamid, the head of Libya Shield No. 1 and a major figure in the Benghazi Revolutionaries’ Shoura Council, was accused two years ago of the murder of Colonel Ahmed Mustafa Al-Barghathi, the head of the military police in Benghazi and his home in Benghazi’s Kuwafiyah suburb was torched by members of the Barghathi tribe as a result.

He denied the accusation but on television threatened revenge for the attack on his home.

A fortnight ago, he said his forces would continue shelling Benina airbase so long as it was used by the Libyan air force to bomb targets in Benghazi – a threat he appears to have carried out. Intermittent shelling of the airbase has not stopped.

Tuaregs announce backing for Serraj government
[LibyaHerald] The National Movement for the Tuaregs (NMT) announced today its support for the Government of National Accord (GNA), unveiled earlier this month by UN Special Envoy Bernardino Leon.

The proposed government was the only solution to Libya’s crisis, the only was to ensure the country’s security, stability and peace and put an end to fighting between fellow Libyans, the organisation said. It called on Libyans to resort to reason and put national interests first.

The organisation has consistently backed the UN-brokered Libya Dialogue chaired by Leon. In July, announcing its support for the draft agreement rejected by the General National Congress but still insisted upon by the House of Representatives, it said that dialogue and the rejection of divisions were the only way to resolve the country’s problems.

Dialogue participant Musa Koni, who has been chosen as one of the three GNA deputy prime ministers, is a member of the NMT.

IS Demand Segregation of Sexes at Yemen University
More like this report from yesterday. But this time the jihadis are identified as Islamic State.
[AnNahar] Salafist gunnies have threatened to use force against university students in Yemen's southern city of Aden if they do not observe segregation of the sexes on campus, witnesses said.

Students said armed bully boyz distributed leaflets containing the threats and signed by the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group in at least three departments of the university of Aden.

The leaflets also banned music and demanded that students perform collective prayers on campus, they added.

They set a Thursday deadline for the demands to be met.

Otherwise they threatened to carry out boom-mobile and petrol kabooms.

The authenticity of the leaflets signed by the Aden and Abyan
...a governorate of Yemen. The region was a base to the Aden-Abyan Islamic Army terrorist group until it dropped the name and joined al-Qaeda. Its capital is Zinjibar. In March 2011, al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula declared the governate an Islamic Emirate after seizing control of the region. The New York Times fastidiously reported that those in control, while Islamic hard boyz, are not in fact al-Qaeda, but something else that looks, tastes, smells, and acts the same. Yemeni government forces launched an effort to re-establish control of the region when President-for-Life Saleh was tossed and the carnage continues...
branch of IS could not be immediately verified.

Southern fighters allied with President Abedrabbo Mansour Hadi and supported by Saudi-led coalition forces managed in July to push Iranian catspaws out of the port city of Aden.

But Islamist Death Eaters, including al-Qaeda and the Islamic State group, appeared to have gained ground in Yemen's second city, where jihadists are now visibly present.

Al-Qaeda, active across several parts of Yemen, has exploited the collapse of central authority during a 2011 uprising that ousted veteran president President-for-Life Ali Abdullah Saleh
... Saleh initially took power as a strongman of North Yemen in 1977, when disco was in flower, but he didn't invite Donna Summer to the inauguration and Blondie couldn't make it...

The Grand Turk
Trustee to be appointed for Gülen-linked İpek Koza companies
President Erdogan no longer loves his former BFF Fethullah Gulen...
[Hurriyet] It has been decided a trustee panel will be appointed to replace the current board of directors of Koza Ipek, a corporation linked to the government's ally-turned-nemesis, U.S.-based Islamic scholar Fethullah Gulen, upon the request of the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, state-run Anadolu Agency reported on Oct. 26.

A representative from the group, Okan Bayrak, said the company has not received any notification yet, declining to give further comments, as reported by Rooters.

Turkish police raided companies in Ankara belonging to Koza Ipek in September.

Anadolu Agency reported on Sept. 1 that the raid targeted 23 of the corporation's companies over what it noted as "giving financial support to the Fetullahist Terror Organization [FETÖ] and conducting its propaganda."

The detained persons were released on probation by an Ankara court on Sept. 2.

Ankara's Eighth Criminal Court of Peace then issued an arrest warrant in absentia for Akin Ipek, the chairman of Koza Ipek, who is reportedly in the United Kingdom.

Speaking to news hounds, Ipek's mother, Melek Ipek, denied allegations that her son had fled to escape trial.

Lawfare: 20,000 Israelis sue Facebook for ignoring Palestinian incitement
This should be fun.
[IsraelTimes] Class-action suit filed in Brooklyn requires social network to immediately remove all posts 'containing incitement to murder Jews'

A class-action lawsuit against Facebook is accusing the social media platform of ignoring widespread Paleostinian posts calling for violence against Jews.

In the suit filed Monday in New York State Supreme Court in Brooklyn, the 20,000 Israeli plaintiffs claim the Facebook posts have inspired many recent terror attacks and that "Facebook's algorithms and platform connects inciters to snuffies who are further encouraged to perpetrate stabbings and other violence attacks against Israelis."

According to a news release issued by the plaintiffs, many recent assailants "were motivated to commit their heinous crimes by incitement to murder they read on Facebook -- demagogues and leaders exhorting their followers to 'slaughter the Jews,' and offering instruction as to the best manner to do so, including even anatomical charts showing the best places to stab a human being."

The suit alleges that Facebook has a "legal and moral obligation" to block much of this content but that it chooses not to.

The plaintiffs are seeking an injunction against Facebook requiring the social network to "immediately remove all pages, groups and posts containing incitement to murder Jews; to actively monitor its website for such incitement that all incitement is immediately removed prior to being disseminated to masses of snuffies and would-be terrorists; and to cease serving as matchmaker between terrorists, terrorist organizations, and those who incite others to commit terrorism."

The complaint does not seek monetary damages against Facebook.

The lead plaintiff, Richard Lankin, 76, is at death's door after having been shot and stabbed by Paleostinian snuffies while riding on a crowded Jerusalem bus on Oct. 13. Two Israelis were killed and more than 20 were maimed in the attack.

Three attorneys -- Robert Tolchin of New York; Nitsana Darshan-Leitner, the director of the Shurat HaDin-Israel Law Center, and Asher Perlin of Fort Lauderdale, Florida -- filed the suit.

In a news release issued by her organization, Darshan-Leitner said, "Facebook wields tremendous power and this publicly traded company needs to utilize it in a way that ensures that Paleostinian Death Eaters who are calling to stab Israelis and glorifying the terrorist that do, are not permitted to do it on its platform."

An article published Saturday by The News Agency that Dare Not be Named said that social media, particularly Twitter and Facebook, is the "number one source of news among young Paleostinians." Some 3.7 million Paleostinians follow the Quds News Network, believed to be affiliated with Islamic Jihad
...created after many members of the Egyptian Moslem Brotherhood decided the organization was becoming too moderate. Operations were conducted out of Egypt until 1981 when the group was exiled after the assassination of President Anwar Sadat. They worked out of Gaza until they were exiled to Lebanon in 1987, where they clove tightly to Hezbollah. In 1989 they moved to Damascus, where they remain a subsidiary of Hezbollah...
, on the social media platform and 4.2 million follow the Shehab News Network, which is believed to be affiliated with Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason,, AP reported.

The Times of Israel reported last week that Facebook pages such as Quds News Network (3.6 million followers on Facebook, 264,000 on twitter); Shehab News Agency (4.1 million followers on Facebook, 99,000 on twitter), and Urgent from Gazoo (282,000 followers on Facebook) flood Paleostinian computer screens with gruesome images of dead Paleostinians and caricatures encouraging more attacks, often accompanied by a hashtag ordering "stab!" or warning "al-Aqsa is in danger!"

Approximately one third of Paleostinian society in Jerusalem and the West Bank is active on social media, said Orit Perlov, a research fellow at the Institute for National Security Studies (INSS) who specializes in Paleostinian social media.

"There are no borders in social media," she said. "The same message resonates in Gazoo, Jerusalem and Umm al-Fahm."

In recent months, she added, Israel and the PA have been monitoring and arresting prominent Paleostinian social media activists in Jerusalem and the West Bank, leaving the arena "like an octopus with tentacles but no head."

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Islamic Body Says blocked by Israel from Installing Al-Aqsa Cameras
[AnNahar] An Islamic trust which administers Jerusalem's flashpoint Al-Aqsa mosque compound accused Israeli police Monday of blocking the installation of cameras there, a key measure agreed to defuse Israeli-Paleostinian tensions over the holy site.

The Jordanian-run trust said a team was "working on the installation of cameras belonging to the Islamic Waqf... but the Israeli police interfered directly and stopped the work."

"We severely condemn the Israeli interference into the working affairs of the Waqf, and we consider the matter evidence that Israel wants to install cameras that only serve its own interests, not cameras that show truth and justice," it said in a statement.

Israeli police had no immediate comment.

The mosque compound is situated in east Jerusalem which was annexed from Jordan in 1967. While Amman has retained custodial rights over the holy sites, administered by the Jordanian Waqf, Israel controls access.

An intense diplomatic drive to ease tensions resulted in Jordan and Israel agreeing Saturday on the installation of surveillance cameras at the mosque,
And now, the buried lede that makes all the fussing above moot:
with Jordan's Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh saying technical teams from both sides would be meeting to work out the details.
...which obviously hasn't happened yet, or it would have been mentioned.

US warns Netanyahu against unilateral steps in East Jerusalem
Nice country you have there. Be a shame if something happened to it.
[Ynet] After PM raises possibility of revoking benefits from Paleostinians living on other side of separation wall, Washington says such a movie would 'be of concern.'

The US warned Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday against making unilateral moves in East Jerusalem, such as an idea raised by the prime minister to revoke benefits and travel rights of some Paleostinians living in East Jerusalem in response to a wave of Paleostinian violence.

"If it was true it would certainly be of concern to us," State Department front man John Kirby told a daily briefing.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
U.S.-led Coalition Air Strikes Slow in Syria
[AnNahar] U.S.-led coalition forces have not carried out any air strikes in Syria for three days as of Monday, a lull that contrasts with the continued intensity of Russia's bombing campaign.

According to Pentagon statistics, the last coalition strike was a drone attack on October 22 that targeted an Islamic State

vehicle and a "mortar tube."

Russia, on the other hand, continues to maintain an intense tempo as it nears the end of its first month of bombing in Syria.

U.S. defense officials say Russian sorties have no bearing on coalition actions in Syria and instead the situation reflects greater discrimination and refinement in terms of which targets are struck.

"It's not because of Russia," said Captain Jeff Davis, a Pentagon front man.

"Air strikes ebb and flow... We look at intelligence to find out where we have actionable targets, where we have targets that we can hit without causing civilian damage.

"We simply haven't had any (recently)... but that doesn't mean we are not on the lookout for more -- and there will be more."

The United States has led a coalition of 60-plus countries that since June 2014 has been conducting regular air raids against IS positions in Iraq and Syria.

As of Sunday, coalition aircraft had carried out a total of 2,679 air strikes in Syria.

Soaring Passport Demand Nets Syria More Than $500 Million
[AnNahar] Syria has netted more than $500 million from passport fees this year, after raising charges for those obtained abroad to bolster foreign exchange reserves, the government said in a report Monday.

The boost in fees comes amid soaring demand for passports, and with Syrians attempting to flee their war-ravaged country for Europe in record numbers.

Damascus earlier this year eased the process for obtaining and renewing passports, while raising the cost of doing so.

Al-Watan newspaper in June said Damascus was receiving some 5,000 passport requests a day from citizens inside and outside the country, a five-fold increase from 2014.

The spike comes despite authorities doubling the cost of the process, requiring citizens abroad pay $400 for a new passport and $200 to renew one.

Inside the country, a new passport costs about $17.

When the government announced it was easing the procedures in June, it said the new fees would be "an important source of foreign exchange."

And on Monday, al-Watan said passport fees were bringing in millions of dollars to bolster Syria's dwindling foreign reserves.

"The revenue (from issuing passports) this year reached $520 million overseas," the newspaper quoted the emigration department as saying.

Passports issued inside the country have netted the government $8 million this year so far, the newspaper added.

The daily said some 829,000 passports had been issued this year at home and abroad, or about 3,000 a day.

Syria's currency has plunged since the beginning of the conflict in 2011, dropping from 50 pounds to the dollar to 300 pounds this year, with foreign reserves falling in parallel.

Separately, trafficking in false passports, which cost between $5,000 and $6,000, has also risen, the emigration department told al-Watan.

The conflict has displaced around half the population, with more than four million becoming refugees.

Most of them have taken refuge in neighboring countries, but in recent months tens of thousands of Syrians have joined a wave of migrants and refugees seeking asylum in Europe.

Al-Watan said European countries including Sweden, Denmark and Norway had "felt the danger" of the flows of refugees and sent delegations to Syria to learn how to spot fake documents.
