Hazara Reparations Saga Continues: Nawur District Residents Forced to Pay Five Million Afghanis to Kuchi Nomads
[8am] Following the Taliban

people to pay reparations to the Kuchis (nomads), residents of three villages in Nawur District, Ghazni Province, are now compelled to pay five million Afghanis each. This decision was made based on the claims of a Kuchi individual who alleges that ten years ago, 230 of his sheep went missing in the border areas of Nawur and Jaghatu districts, and the residents of these three villages were involved in the incident. Subsequently, the Taliban arrested and tortured 17 individuals from these villages. Sources report that the Taliban have been holding these individuals in humid places, subjecting them to daily beatings. Now, the residents are forced by the Taliban to pay five million Afghanis to the Kuchi individuals to resolve this issue. It is worth noting that Hazara communities have previously been coerced into paying substantial reparations to Kuchis through various means of intimidation.

Taliban Detain Young Girl in Balkh Province for ‘Bad Veiling’
[8am] Local sources in Balkh Province have reported that the Taliban
...Arabic for students...
detained a maiden of tender years from the city of Mazar-e-Sharif, the bustling provincial capital, on charges of "bad veiling."

According to information received by Hasht-e Subh, Taliban fighters apprehended the maiden of tender years, named Elaha, on Wednesday, September 4th, as she was returning home from a tailor’s workshop.

Elaha resides in Khalid bin Walid Township within the sixth district of Mazar-e-Sharif.

Local Taliban officials in Balkh have not yet commented on the matter.

Nearly three days after the detention of this maiden of tender years, her relatives have been unable to visit her while she remains in Taliban custody.

Following the Taliban’s resurgence in Afghanistan, the group has imposed numerous restrictions on women and girls. These restrictions include a prescribed dress code and a requirement for women to be accompanied when outside their homes.

It is worth noting that the Taliban had recently issued warnings to women and girls, stating that severe actions would be taken if they did not comply with these directives.

Afghan women and girls begin small businesses despite restrictions
Hopefully they’ll be allowed to carry on.
[KhaamaPress] Following increased restrictions, Afghan women and girls have ventured into small businesses, exemplified by establishments like "Culba Awasana-e-Manahil Sadat" in Balkh and the cafe-restaurant "Shama" in Kabul, showcasing their resilience in overcoming restrictions.

Najiya Sadat, with the help of her friends, opened this restaurant about two weeks ago and dedicated it to women. She expressed her desire to create a restaurant for women.

She mentioned that "Culba Awasana-e-Manahil Sadat" has quickly gained popularity with the encouragement and support of women in Balkh.

According to her, women appreciate the restaurant’s establishment, and when women are restricted everywhere, they can comfortably visit this restaurant.

In "Culba Awasana-e-Manahil Sadat," six girls deprived of education are employed. The restaurant’s founder is 28 years old and has three children. She told Khaama Press News Agency that she supports her family entirely through this restaurant.

Ms Sadat encourages other women to break free from their domestic constraints and actively pursue endeavours.

Arizoo, one of the girls working at "Culba Awasana-e-Manahil Sadat," talked about the pain and suffering of being confined at home and added that having work and social activities for women is necessary. If the restrictions against women are not lifted, mental and emotional problems among women and girls will worsen.

Over the past two years, women in Afghanistan have faced numerous restrictions, including a ban on work and education, following the resurrection of the Taliban
...the Pashtun equivalent of men...
. According to the Institute of Peace, over seventy restrictive decrees have been issued in the past two years to curtail women’s personal and social freedoms in Afghanistan.

The United Nations
...an organization originally established to war on dictatorships which was promptly infiltrated by dictatorships and is now held in thrall to dictatorships...
praised resilient Afghan women’s efforts in celebrating World Entrepreneurs’ Day on a Monday, calling them "amazing women."

Samia Bahari has also established a restaurant in Kabul. She is a 26-year-old girl living in Kabul. She recently started a restaurant in Kabul’s Shahr-e-Now area and has helped some girls deprived of work and education find employment here.

Her restaurant, named "Shama", which means candle, is noteworthy for its exclusive design catering to women and girls. This safe and welcoming environment allows them to gather without the constraints they often face.

In an environment designed by Samia, women and girls can gather and temporarily escape from the humiliation and pain imposed on them, even for a brief moment.

Residents and authorities in Somalia say Wednesday airstrike caused several casualties including children - 2 or 3 Shaboobs toes up
[Garowe] An Arclight airstrike
...KABOOM!...
in a town in Somalia caused several casualties, including children, residents and authorities said, while three members of an al-Qaeda-linked bad boy group were killed.

The U.S. military in a statement Friday said "Unfortunately, civilians were maimed and killed" in the vicinity of a military operation by Somali forces in El-Lahelay village on Wednesday.

The U.S. said it evacuated injured civilians at the Somali government’s request but but that American forces had not conducted airstrikes or been at the scene of the operation.

The U.S. Africa Command did not respond to questions including the number of civilians killed and injured. The U.S. for years has conducted airstrikes in support of Somali forces combating the al-Qaeda-linked al-Shabaab

group.

"The claim being spread by al-Shabaab that U.S. forces caused the unfortunate harm to civilians is false," the statement said. The U.S. in the past has acknowledged killing civilians with airstrikes.

Accounts by witnesses and local authorities of Wednesday’s events varied.

Amal Ali, a relative, told The News Agency that Dare Not be Named that an airstrike targeted a vehicle belonging to al-Shabaab when it was passing near the family home in El-Garas town in Galmudug

state. A grandmother and five of her grandchildren were killed, she said.

The children’s father, Dahir Ahmed, in a brief phone call, confirmed the incident but said he could not immediately give details.

"It was an American airstrike," Abdifatah Ali Halane, secretary-general of the El-Garas administration, told the AP. "They’ve been providing crucial aerial support throughout our operations against bandidos hard boyz in Galmudug state."

He said the airstrike killed three people, including two suspected members of al-Shabaab, and injured five people, including four children.

Halane said Somali forces quickly came for the maimed, who were evacuated to the capital, Mogadishu, for medical treatment.

Somalia’s deputy information minister, Abdirahman Adala, told journalists that three al-Shabaab members were killed in the operation by Somali forces. But he said bandidos hard boyz had placed kabooms in a nearby home that killed civilians.

Somalia’s government last year launched what the president called "total war" on al-Shabaab, which controls parts of rural central and southern Somalia and makes millions of dollars through "taxation" of residents and extortion of businesses.

United States government has issued a bounty of up to 10 million dollars for information on the whereabouts of Ahmed Diriye, Shaboob big turban

The United States government has issued a bounty of up to 10 million dollars for information on the whereabouts of Ahmed Diriye, also known as Ahmed Umar and Abu Ubaidah, a high-ranking member of the Somalia-based al-Qaeda linked holy warrior group al-Shabaab
...... the personification of Somali state failure...
.

The State Department Rewards for Justice Program issued the notice saying in a statement that Abu Ubaidah currently serves as the leader of al-Shabaab, a position he assumed following the death of the former al-Shabaab leader, Ahmed Abdi Godane.

Abu Ubaidah was part of Godane’s inner circle at the time of Godane’s death.

The US has linked the al-Shabaab leader to attacks in the East African region including Kenya.

"Under his leadership, AS bandidos snuffies have conducted attacks in Somalia, Kenya, Uganda, and Djibouti that have resulted in the death of hundreds of individuals," the US State Department said on Thursday.

Prior to replacing Godane, the US said, Abu Ubaidah served in several positions within al-Shabaab, including as Godane’s assistant, the deputy governor of the Lower Juba region of Somalia in 2008, and al-Shabaab’s governor of the Bay and Bakool regions of Somalia in 2009.

TAMING AL-SHABAAB’S GROWTH
By 2013, he was a senior adviser to Godane, and served in al-Shabaab’s "Interior Department," where he oversaw the group’s domestic activity.

He shares Godane’s vision for al-Shabaab’s terrorist attacks in Somalia as an element of AL-Qaeda’s greater global aspirations.

On April 21, 2015, the U.S. Department of State designated Abu Ubaidah as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist pursuant to Executive Order 13224, as amended.

"As a result of this designation, among other consequences, all property and interests in property of Abu Ubaidah that are subject to U.S. jurisdiction are blocked, and U.S. persons are generally prohibited from engaging in any transactions with Abu Ubaidah," the US said.

The Department of State designated al-Shabaab as a Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO) and Specially Designated Global Terrorist in March 2008.

In April 2010, the UN Security Council’s Somalia Sanctions Committee added al-Shabaab to the 1844 Sanctions List by pursuant to paragraph 8 of resolution 1844 (2008).

#1  CFR Report: Ahmed Diriye, also known as Ahmed Umar Abu Ubaidah, is the current leader of al-Shabaab. He was installed in 2014, after his predecessor, Ahmed Abdi Godane, was killed in a U.S. drone strike. Despite initial doubts among some analysts about Diriye’s ability to maintain control over what was then a fractious group, many say al-Shabaab remains a largely cohesive organization. An executive council, or shura, believed to be made up of around a dozen members is the main decision-making body.

Top French court upholds abaya ban in schools, denies any discrimination against Muslims
[AlAhram] La Belle France's top administrative court on Thursday upheld a government ban on traditional over-garments worn by some Moslem women in schools and rejected complaints it was discriminatory and could incite hatred.

President Emmanuel Macron's government announced last month it was banning the abaya in schools as it broke the rules on secularism in education.

Moslem headscarves have already banned on the ground that they constitute a display of religious affiliation.

An association representing Moslems filed a motion with the State Council, La Belle France's highest court for complaints against state authorities, for an injunction against the ban on the abaya and the qamis, its equivalent dress for men.

The association said the ban was discriminatory and could incite hatred against Moslems, as well as racial profiling.

But after examining the motion -- filed by the Action for the Rights of Moslems (ADM) -- for two days, the State Council rejected the arguments.

It said wearing the abaya "follows the logic of religious affirmation", adding that the decision was based on French law which did not allow anyone wearing visible signs of any religious affiliation in schools.

'NO SERIOUS HARM'
The ban by the government did not, it said, cause "serious or obviously illegal harm to the respect for personal lives, freedom of religion, the right to eduation, the well-being of children or the principle of non-discrimination".

Ahead of the ruling, La Belle France's Council of the Moslem Faith (CFCM), established to represent Moslems before the government, had warned that banning the abaya could create "an elevated risk of discrimination" and said it was considering putting its own complaint before the State Council.

The absence of "a clear definition of this garment creates vagueness and legal uncertainty", it said.

ADM's lawyer, Vincent Brengarth, argued during the court hearing that the abaya should be considered a traditional garment, not a religious one.

He also accused the government of seeking political advantage with the ban.

ADM president Sihem Zine said the rule was "sexist" because it singles out girls and "targets Arabs".

But the education ministry said the abaya made its wearers "immediately recognisable as belonging to the Moslem religion", and therefore ran counter to La Belle France's secular culture.

French schools sent dozens of girls home for refusing to remove their abayas -- a shoulder-to-toe over-garment -- on the first day of the school year on Monday.

Nearly 300 schoolgirls defied the ban, Education Minister Gabriel Attal said.

Most agreed to change garments but 67 refused and were sent home, he said.

In 2016 the State Council overturned a ban in a French Riviera resort against the burkini, saying it failed to see any threat to public order from the long bathing suit worn by some Moslem women.

Around 10 percent of La Belle France's 67 million inhabitants are Moslem, according to official estimates.

Most have origins in northern African countries Algeria, Morocco and Tunisia, which were French colonies until the second half of the 20th century.

Hamas, Papua New Guinea opposition protest Pacific country’s Jerusalem embassy
No weapon too small for the anti-Zionists to try to aim at Israel’s throat.
[BenarNews] Papua New Guinea’s opening of an embassy in Israeli-occupied Jerusalem has been condemned by Paleostinian officials and by the Pacific island country’s opposition leader, who said it was a reckless move.

Papua New Guinea Prime Minister James Marape and other officials visited Israel earlier this week for the embassy ceremony, which was attended by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. It makes the Pacific nation one of only five countries including the United States to have an embassy in Jerusalem.

"We have aroused the ire of the Paleostinian Authority and Hamas, a regional Iranian catspaw, has warned us in the strongest possible terms that PNG must reconsider that decision and move out," opposition leader Joseph Lelang said on Friday. "This is a serious warning and I feel for the foreign mission staff and the ambassador who will be based there."

Most nations do not recognize Israel’s control over Jerusalem and want its status to be decided by negotiations as part of the two-state solution to the decades-old Middle East conflict between the Paleostinians and Israel. Paleostinians claim the east of the holy city as the capital of a future Paleostinian state.

Marape on Tuesday said the decision to open the embassy was based on Papua New Guinea’s Christian principles and worldview that emanate from Judaism.

"For us to call ourself Christian, paying respect to God will not be complete without recognizing that Jerusalem is the universal capital of the people and nation of Israel," he said in a video of the ceremony released by the Israeli government’s public relations office..

resolutions that recognize Jerusalem as an occupied city.

Papua New Guinean authorities should "immediately backtrack on this reprehensible decision," Hamas spokesperson Hazem Qasem said.

The Paleostinian foreign ministry said Papua New Guinea’s government was involved in "an aggression against the Paleostinian people and their rights," The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire...
’s state news agency reported.

It warned that the move would cause "great harm to the chances of achieving peace on the basis of a two-state solution."

Trade between Israel and Papua New Guinea, the most populous Pacific island nation with more than nine million people, currently is negligible.

Marape said he hopes Papua New Guinea, which grapples with poverty and tribal violence, will benefit from Israel’s technological expertise in the areas of agriculture, education, finance and infrastructure.

He said land in the country’s capital Port Moresby will be allocated for an Israel-Papua New Guinea special economic zone.

The embassy is in a high-rise office building and is funded by Israel in an unusual arrangement, Australian broadcaster ABC reported.

Lebanese PM raises concerns over stability risks posed by Syrian refugees
[AlAhram] Over a thousand Syrian refugees each week fleeing to Leb
...an Iranian colony situated on the eastern Mediterranean, conveniently adjacent to Israel. Formerly inhabited by hardy Phoenecian traders, its official language is now Arabic, with the usual unpleasant side effects. The Leb civil war, between 1975 and 1990, lasted a little over 145 years and produced 120,000 fatalities. The average length of a ceasefire was measured in seconds. The Lebs maintain a precarious sectarian balance among Shiites, Sunnis, and about a dozeen flavors of Christians. It is the home of Hezbollah, which periodically starts a war with the Zionist Entity, gets Beirut pounded to rubble, and then declares victory and has a parade. The Lebs have the curious habit of periodically murdering their heads of state or prime ministers...
from their country’s worsening economic and financial conditions "could create harsh imbalances" in the small Mediterranean nation, caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati warned Thursday.

Over the past months, thousands of Syrian citizens made it to Lebanon through illegal crossing points seeking a better life. But Lebanon is going through its own four-year meltdown, with a drowning economy pinning its hopes on tourism and crumbling infrastructure where electricity and water cuts are widespread.

In the early years after conflict broke out in Syria in March 2011, Lebanon received hundreds of thousands of refugees. That changed in later years, especially after Lebanon’s economic crisis broke out in October 2019.

The Syrian conflict has killed half a million people and displaced half the country’s pre-war population of 23 million, including more than 5 million Syrians who fled the country, mostly to neighboring countries. Refugees usually pay smugglers to bring them to Lebanon through the long, shared border.

The Lebanese army said in a statement Thursday that it prevented 1,200 Syrians from crossing into Lebanon this week alone. It said another 1,100 Syrians were prevented from reaching Lebanon the previous week.

Speaking at the start of a Cabinet meeting Thursday in Beirut, Mikati said what is worrying about the influx in refugees is that most of them are young men and women.

"That threatens our entity’s independence and could create harsh imbalances that could affect Lebanon’s demographic balance," Mikati said.

The demographic in question may be religious affiliation, as the vast majority of Syrians are Sunni Moslems. Lebanon, known for its religious diversity in the region, has struggled to keep peace between its 18 religious sects. Today, Christians make up nearly a third of the population, while the other two-thirds are almost equally split between Shiites and Sunnis.

Mikati said another Cabinet session will be held next week with the commander of the army and heads of security agencies to discuss refugees.

Issam Charafeddine, Lebanon’s caretaker minister of the displaced, told a local radio station that 8,000 Syrian refugees entered Lebanon through illegal crossing points since the beginning of August. He said 20,000 refugees have crossed since the beginning of the year.

The U.N. estimates that about 90 percent of the population lives in poverty. The Syrian pound’s value against the U.S. dollar declined to an all-time low of 15,000 pounds to the dollar in August.
