UK Labour suspends 2nd parliamentary candidate in 24 hours over anti-Israel rhetoric
[IsraelTimes] Graham Jones, seeking Hyndburn seat, dropped over remarks made at meeting of party activists where comments by another candidate saw support withdrawn from him too

The UK’s Labour Party has suspended a parliamentary candidate in coming elections over his anti-Israel remarks, less than a day after pulling its support for another candidate who was dropped for the same reason. Graham Jones, who is running to keep his seat in Hyndburn, has been suspended, local media said Tuesday. According to the BBC, Jones is also facing an investigation.

The move came after the Guido Fawkes website published a recording from a meeting of Labour activists in the northern England county of Lancashire during which Jones said: "I’m sure when [world leaders] go home, like me, pardon my French [they say] ’fucking Israel’ again."

Instagram removes accounts for leading NYC pro-Palestinian group Within Our Lifetime
Goodness — and after only four months!
[IsraelTimes] After being used to express support for Hamas and its Oct. 7 atrocities, pages of the organization and its founder Nerdeen Kiswani are deactivated.

Within Our Lifetime, perhaps the most visible pro-Paleostinian activist group in New York City, said on Friday that Instagram had permanently disabled its accounts, depriving it of a major platform for organizing protests. Within Our Lifetime’s main account and a backup page, each of which had tens of thousands of followers, both appeared to be inactive, as did two pages belonging to founder Nerdeen Kiswani. Within Our Lifetime shared a screenshot on X, formerly Twitter, saying that the accounts had been disabled due to violations of community guidelines. A Facebook page belonging to the group, which has not been active in months, is still online.

A spokesperson for Meta, which owns Instagram and WhatsApp, told the New York Jewish Week that the accounts had been removed because they violated the platform’s community guidelines, including its "Dangerous Organizations & Individuals policy."

    Europe
Top EU human rights court upholds bans on halal, kosher slaughter in Belgium
[IsraelTimes] The bans in Belgium on the slaughter of animals without stunning neither interfere with freedom of religion nor constitute discrimination, the European Court of Human Rights rules.

The ruling Tuesday by the tribunal in Strasbourg, La Belle France, is on a petition filed by Moslem groups against the bans introduced in 2019 in two out of three Belgian regions. The ruling is final as the Strasbourg court is the highest instance with jurisdiction to review the bans.

Jewish and Moslem groups in Belgium oppose the bans, which they view as an unreasonable infringement on religious freedoms. The bans cite the widespread view that slaughter without stunning is cruel to animals. Advocates of Jewish slaughter, or shechita, argue that when performed correctly, that technique does not result in excessive suffering for animals. Defenders of the Moslem variant, d’biha, argue the same.

Many observant Jews and Moslems do not consume meat that isn’t kosher or halal, respectively. For meat to be labeled as such, the animals from which it is produced must be healthy and conscious when their necks are cut.

Multiple countries in the European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
and beyond have laws limiting or outlawing slaughter without stunning.

"The implied determination of the distorted verdict is that the rights of these citizens to freedom of religion and worship are even less than that of animals," says Rabbi Menachem Margolin, chairman of the Brussels-based European Jewish Association.

He warns that the restrictions on Jews practicing their faith, as he defines them, will lead to "serious damage to the fabric of life throughout the continent."

Rabbi Pinchas Goldschmidt, President of the Conference of European Rabbis, calls the ruling "a black day for Europe," adding that "the Jewish and Moslem communities of Europa
...the land mass occupying the space between the English Channel and the Urals, also known as Moslem Lebensraum...
will continue to fight for religious freedoms and equality," but "that task is now made all the harder.
More from the Times of Israel at 2:55 p.m. ET:
The bans added Belgium to a number of EU countries where ritual slaughter is illegal, including Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Estonia and Slovenia. In 2011, the Netherlands briefly joined the list, but the Dutch Senate reversed the ban in 2012, citing freedom of worship. Poland also outlawed ritual slaughter in 2013, but has since scaled back the ban to include only meat for export.

Advocates of the customs say that in addition to being required under religious law, they result in no greater suffering to animals than mechanized slaughter methods with higher malfunction rates and less attention to individual animals.

Israeli offensive on Rafah would be a humanitarian catastrophe, says Germany
[Jpost] An Israeli offensive on the Gaza city of Rafah where 1.3 million people have sought refuge would be a humanitarian catastrophe, German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock said on Wednesday.

Speaking at a news conference in Jerusalem, Baerbock said: "1.3 million people are waiting there in a very small space. They don't really have anywhere else to go right now ... If the Israeli army were to launch an offensive on Rafah under these conditions, it would be a humanitarian catastrophe."
    It's them or us, Annalena.
Their heads are with Israel, but their secret, romantic hearts are with the bandits of Hamas. Even though Hamas aren’t nearly so harmless as bandits.

US slaps sanctions on Central Bank of Iran subsidiary, entities based in UAE, Turkey
[IsraelTimes] The United States says it has imposed sanctions on a subsidiary of the Central Bank of Iran

The nation is today noted for spontaneously taking over other countries' embassies, maintaining whorehouses run by clergymen, involvement in international drug trafficking, and financing sock puppet militias to extend the regime's influence. Biden signs memo shielding thousands of Palestinians in US from deportation
Protecting his phoney baloney job. Harrrrumph!
[IsraelTimes] US President Joe The Big Guy Biden
    ...46th president of the U.S. You're a lyin' dog-faced pony soldier...
has issued a memo using his executive powers to shield thousands of Paleostinians in the US from deportation for the next 18 months.

Some 6,000 Paleostinians are eligible for the reprieve under an immigration program called Deferred Enforced Departure.

"While I remain focused on improving the humanitarian situation, many civilians remain in danger; therefore, I am directing the deferral of removal of certain Paleostinians who are present in the United States," Biden states in the memo.

"In light of the ongoing conflict and humanitarian needs on the ground, President Biden signed a memorandum directing the deferral of removal of certain Paleostinians who are present in the United States, giving them a temporary safe haven," US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan says in a statement explaining the executive order.

"This grant of deferred enforced departure would provide protections for most Paleostinians in the United States, with certain exceptions," including convicted felons, others deemed public safety threats, Sullivan adds, saying those who voluntarily return to the West Bank or Gazoo

    would lose such protections.

The move is likely to be welcomed by Arab and Moslem American community leaders who have fumed over Biden’s support for Israel amid the war in Gaza, with many pledging not to vote for the president in re-election.

But the memo also sharpens the difference between Biden and presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump
...dictatorial for repealing some (but not all) of the diktats of his predecessor, misogynistic because he likes pretty girls, homophobic because he doesn't think gender bending should be mandatory, truly a man for all seasons......
, who has called for deporting Paleostinians who express support for Hamas
...a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth",...
. A Republican politician issued legislation — which has no chance of passing — that would revoke the visas of Paleostinians and prevent them from receiving asylum status in the US.

May 9 'narrative' buried if establishment deems Feb 8 election fair: JUI-F chief Fazl
    [GEO.TV] Jamaat Ulema-e-Islam
...the political wing of the Pak Taliban...
-Fazl (JUI-F) Emir Maulana Fazlur Rehman
...Deobandi holy man, known as Mullah Diesel during the war against the Soviets, his sympathies for the Taliban have never been tempered by honesty. Fazl seldom misses a meal and is now so large he has his own gravitational pull...
has said that if the establishment deems the February 8 elections to be fair, then the "narrative" of May 9 has been "buried" — as the Pakistain Tehrik-e-Insaf
...a political party in Pakistan. PTI was founded by former Pakistani cricket captain and philanthropist Imran Khan. The party's slogan is Justice, Humanity and Self Esteem, each of which is open to widely divergent interpretations....
(PTI)-backed candidates secured the most seats in the National Assembly.

PTI workers and leaders were rounded up post-May 9 — the day when party founder Imran Khan
...aka The Great Khan, who isn't your heaviest-duty thinker, maybe not even among the top five...
was arrested in a graft case. During the nearly countrywide protests, the miscreants targeted the civil and military installations including — Jinnah House and the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi. The military had termed May 9 "Black Day" and decided to try the protesters under the Army Act.

Subsequently, an exodus was witnessed after the unprecedented incident and later on, the party faced several setbacks. However,
man does not live by words alone, despite the fact that sometimes he has to eat them...
the PTI-affiliated candidates emerged victorious despite scepticism.

After projected ’unofficial’ election results, major parties including — Pakistain Moslem League-Nawaz (PML-N), Pakistain Peoples Party (PPP) and Pakistain Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) — swung into action to form coalitions to form their governments in the Centre and provinces.

    However,
man does not live by words alone, despite the fact that sometimes he has to eat them...
the politico-religious party formally announced to stay away from joining any coalition whose supremo headed the former ruling coalition — Pakistain Democratic Movement (PDM), a multi-party alliance — which ousted former prime minister Imran Khan via a parliamentary vote in 2022.

"The JUI-F will play its parliamentary role and join the assemblies, but with reservations," the senior politician said in a presser on Wednesday, in which he categorically rejected the February 8 nationwide poll results.

Fazl added that "rigging" in 2024 broke records of 2018 elections, alleging that the poll organising authority was held hostage by the establishment. He went on to say that the May 9 narrative was seemingly buried if the establishment deemed the Feb 8 polls fair.

It is pertinent to mention here that the Fazl-led party managed to win four National Assembly (NA) seats and 18 provincial assembly seats in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan
...the Pak province bordering Kandahar and Uruzgun provinces in Afghanistan and Sistan Baluchistan in Iran. Its native Baloch propulation is being displaced by Pashtuns and Punjabis and they aren't happy about it...
, as per unofficial election results.

Maulana Fazl termed the top electoral body’s role in the 2024 general polls "suspicious". He alleged that the commission was suspending petitions of JUI-F candidates without issuing any notices.

He claimed that the JUI-F was deliberately defeated via "rigging" in the nationwide polls as it was "unacceptable for the United States and the West"

'Govt can't survive without Imran Khan': Latif Khosa
[GEO.TV] PTI leader Latif Khosa Wednesday predicted that the PML-N-led government which will be formed with the backing of other parties was not sustainable.

"This is the ground reality. Imran Khan was awarded three sentences, but look at how the people expressed their anger [— in terms of votes]."

"People were so angry, they stressed that it is up to them to send politicians to the parliament. People came from abroad to vote for Imran Khan."

The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response...
after the war between Israel and Hamas
...the well-beloved offspring of the Moslem Brotherhood,...
, a prominent Paleostinian exile says.

Mohammed Dahlan, the former Paleostinian Authority Gaza security chief, tells The New York Times

...which still proudly displays Walter Duranty's Pulitzer prize...

that in his vision, "the leaders of Egypt, Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
and the Emirates are open to supporting processes that are part of efforts leading to a Paleostinian state."

The new Paleostinian leader would push PA President the ineffectual Mahmoud Abbas
...aka Abu Mazen, a graduate of the prestigious unaccredited Patrice Lumumba University in Moscow with a doctorate in Holocaust Denial. While no Yasser Arafat, he has his own brand of evil, just a little more lowercase....
aside to a ceremonial role, and could invite countries like the UAE and Saudi Arabia to send in troops and pay for a reconstruction of the Strip, says Dahlan, who many think may be eyeing the job for himself.

But Israel would have to agree to a Paleostinian state: "The main Arab countries are really very keen to settle this conflict. Not the war, the whole conflict."

"No Abbas, no Hamas," says the former Fatah strongman. "New people in charge of the Paleostinian Authority."

As he has been for decades, Dahlan is openly critical of Hamas: "Relying on people suffering isn’t leadership. The Paleostinian people want to live."

Dahlan’s security force operated in Gaza with an iron first after the Oslo Accords. A Gaza native, he was abroad when Hamas took over by force in 2007, and after moving to the West Bank he was expelled from Fatah in 2011 over accusations that he murdered Yasser Arafat.

His potential popularity as an alternative to Abbas has led to tensions with the Paleostinian leader. In 2014, Dahlan was convicted in absentia by the PA for defamation and embezzlement.

In the UAE, where he moved after being pushed out of Fatah, he has been a top adviser to President Mohammed Bin Zayed, and has also stayed somewhat active in Paleostinian politics. In 2017, he brokered a deal between Egypt and Hamas to keep fuel flowing to Gaza’s power plant, flexing his diplomatic muscle.

Representatives from six Arab countries met last week in Saudi Arabia to discuss a ceasefire and the future of Gaza.

Dahlan tells the New York Times that he is trying convince Hamas to step aside to let new Paleostinian leadership take over.

IDF rehab center forecasting another 16,000 wounded in war this year
[IsraelTimes] The Defense Ministry rehabilitation center says it is anticipating receiving some 20,000 additional maimed veterans over the coming year, as fighting in the Gazoo

Strip continues into its fifth month.

So far, since October 7, the rehab unit has dealt with more than 5,500 soldiers, the ministry says.

It expects that of the 20,000 in the coming year, at least 80 percent, or 16,000, will be due to injuries sustained in the war.

Currently, the rehab center aids some 62,000 soldiers, many of whom are physically maimed, but also those suffering from PTSD.

US State Department says Hamas demands over Temple Mount are an ‘obvious nonstarter’

said some of Hamas’s demands were "over the top," but this appears to be the first time that a US official specifies Washington’s issues with Hamas’s response.

"You saw a number of issues that were obvious non-starters, for example, the status of al-Aqsa is not going to be resolved in negotiation of hostages," Miller says during a press briefing.

He also notes that the Israeli government has taken steps to ensure that aid is delivered through the Kerem Shalom crossing by declaring the surrounding area a closed military zone to prevent access to far-right protesters seeking to block the assistance from reaching Gazoo

"We think it is extremely unfortunate the times that the crossing has been blocked. We engage with the Israeli government and have made clear that the position of the United States is that the crossing ought to remain open and that they take whatever steps they can to make sure that it remains open," Miller says.

PM says no progress possible in Cairo talks unless Hamas changes ‘delusional’ demands

[IsraelTimes] Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office says in a statement that no advancements can be made in talks in Cairo until Hamas changes its “delusional” position.

“In Cairo, Israel was not given any new proposal by Hamas for the release of our hostages,” says a statement from the PMO, adding that the prime minister “insists that Israel will not submit to the delusional demands of Hamas.”

“A change in Hamas’s positions will allow progress in the negotiations,” the statement says.

Reports today in Hebrew media indicated that Netanyahu refused to send a delegation to Cairo tomorrow, arguing that there is no point in doing so until Hamas climbs down from its demands regarding the release of large numbers of Palestinian prisoners.

The Hostages Families Forum reacting scathingly to the news, saying it was a death sentence for the remaining hostages.

Meaningless posturing checked off the day’s list.

War with Hamas dents Israel economy but strong rebound seen afterwards
    See also here.
[Jpost] Israel's economy is taking a hit after more than four months of war with Hamas, but the economy looks set to grow slightly this year before rebounding in 2025 as long as the conflict stays contained to Gaza.

Israel's $500 billion economy had been humming along and was expected to grow around 3.5% last year, but after gunmen from Palestinian terrorist group Hamas attacked on October 7, the economy came to a standstill. Israelis stopped spending and travelling, hundreds of thousands were called up into reserve military duty in one of the largest troop mobilizations Israel has ever seen and thousands of Palestinian workers were laid off.

...Consumer confidence stands at levels not seen since the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, while the annual inflation rate has eased back down to 3%, prompting a Bank of Israel rate reduction of a quarter-point in January.

At the outset of the war, most private spending was just on essential goods like food, while Israelis were not in any mood to travel for leisure, or go to movies or shows.

Now, even as fighting continues in Gaza, thousands of reservists have been sent home and crowds have returned to the shopping malls and restaurants that were shut down at the start of the war.

"It seems like the economy is coming back," said Bank Leumi chief economist Gil Bufman. He pointed to real-time data such as credit card purchases that indicate "demand is coming back" following a "terrible month" in October, before stabilizing in November and improving in December.

Netanyahu disregards Israeli captives for ''personal career'', alleges Palestinian FM
[GEO.TV] In a meeting with his Cypriot counterpart in Nicosia, Paleostinian Authority’s Foreign Minister, Riyad al-Maliki, accused Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of prioritising his "personal career and personal future" over the well-being of Israeli hostages and innocent lives in Paleostine

According to Al Jazeera, al-Maliki emphasised that Netanyahu's actions indicate a lack of concern for the destiny of people on both sides of the conflict.

Peskov said that the Russian Federation is conducting a dialogue on the release of Russians abducted by Hamas
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Regnum] Russia continues contacts with Israel and Palestine for the release of kidnapped Russians, Russian Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov said on February 14.

“We continue our contacts. One of the main tasks - if not the main one - is to continue contacts with all interested parties so that the Russian citizens remaining hostage are released and their safety is ensured,” he said.

According to him, Russia sees the danger of expanding the conflict in the Middle East and “an explosion in the region.” Peskov noted that Israeli strikes on Rafah are fraught with a large number of casualties, and Moscow is concerned about this.

“A lot of people, a lot of Palestinians, gathered in Rafah. And striking Rafah is fraught with a multiple increase in casualties. This is a matter of particular concern for us. We are very carefully monitoring the news that comes from there,” the Kremlin spokesman said.

As Regnum reported, on October 7, 2023, Hamas took dozens of people hostage, including Russians, during an attack on the border areas of Israel. Since the beginning of the escalation of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, several exchanges have taken place.

At the end of November, Hamas representatives released several Russians as a sign of gratitude to Russian President Vladimir Putin. As Politburo member Musa Abu Marzouk reported, during the prisoner exchange with Israel from the Gaza Strip, they did not release a single Israeli man, but they did release Russians.

Hamas's military wing later released two more Russian hostages in response to Moscow's request.

In early January, Al-Arabiya TV channel reported that the leadership of the Palestinian Hamas movement decided to stop any negotiations on the release of hostages after an explosion in their office in Lebanon, which killed the deputy head of the Hamas politburo, Saleh al-Arouri, and his associate. On January 2, the head of the Hamas Politburo, Ismail Haniyeh, said that the movement would release the hostages only on its own terms, and any exchange initiatives would be considered only after an Israeli ceasefire.
