Tolkien lore led a Texas boy to suspension after he brought his 'one ring' to school.
Kermit Elementary School officials called it a threat when the 9-year-old boy, Aiden Steward, in a playful act of make-believe, told a classmate he could make him disappear with a ring forged in fictional Middle Earth's Mount Doom.
"It sounded unbelievable," the boy's father, Jason Steward, told the Daily News. He insists his son didn't mean anything by it."
The Stewards had just watched "The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies" days earlier, inspiring Aiden's imagination and leading him to proclaim that he had in his possession the one ring to rule them all.
"Kids act out movies that they see. When I watched Superman as a kid, I went outside and tried to fly," Steward said.
Aiden claimed Thursday he could put a ring on his friend's head and make him invisible like Bilbo Baggins, who stole Gollum's "precious" in J.R.R. Tolkien's fantasy series "The Lord of the Rings."
"I assure you my son lacks the magical powers necessary to threaten his friend's existence," the boy's father later wrote in an email. "If he did, I'm sure he'd bring him right back."
Principal Roxanne Greer declined to comment on the fourth-grader's suspension, citing confidentiality policies, according to the Odessa American, who first reported Aiden's troubles Friday.
The family moved to the Kermit Independent School District only six months ago, but it's been nothing but headaches for Aiden. He's already been suspended three times this school year.
Two of the disciplinary actions this year were in-school suspensions for referring to a classmate as black and bringing his favorite book to school: "The Big Book of Knowledge."
"He loves that book. They were studying the solar system and he took it to school. He thought his teacher would be impressed," Steward said.
But the teacher learned the popular children's encyclopedia had a section on pregnancy, depicting a pregnant woman in an illustration, he explained.

Borneo Post later reported that the creature was a sun bear with skin disease, as confirmed by the Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC). But it ain't, really! There's this nucular plant and it leaks...
An SFC spokesperson was also quoted as saying that the animal was sick and was losing hair. That's from the radiation...
Its habitat was flooded and hence it may have crossed onto the plantation, guess authorities. But then it finally makes it all the way home to its Mom...

So let me get this straight. The UC Davis liberal elite and socialist student government decided the hook nosed Jews are evil and in order to protect the school they will pass a ruling to not do business or invest in anything Jewish. In support of that ruling people supporting that decision decided to mark the homes of Jews to isolate them and identify the horrible Jews that live in their neighborhood. Did I get this about right??? And what happened during the holocaust memorial where everyone stood arm in arm in hypocrisy vowing never again. This is how fascism take a country over. It starts small and, if unchecked, grows into a national event. Just like a small group of black invented white pride making white men the enemy of America, now they are back going after the Jews. We need to wake the hell up people. The feds should be investigating this hate crime, they should be shutting off all funding for UC Davis for racist decisions and the students need to be remove from campus. If the Univ of Idaho decided to divest of everything in Africa because the black still believe in slavery, which they do, there would be more federal officers on that campus than students. UC Davis need is doors closed until the investigation over its hateful practices is resolved.

China's education minister on Friday ordered the country's colleges and universities to ban textbooks that promote "western values," a phrase that often refers to democracy and human rights.
Yuan Guiren told a higher education forum that Chinese institutions should take steps to protect their "political integrity," and "never let textbooks promoting western values appear in our classes," official media reported. Yuan also said higher education institutions should ban any negative comments about the ruling Communist Party from its classrooms.
"Remarks that slander the leadership of the Communist Party of China, smear socialism or violate the country's Constitution and laws must never appear or be promoted in college classrooms," Xinhua quoted him as saying.
We do it a bit differently here in the USA. Substitute a different set of buzzwords, and you have PC as inflicted here in the USA instead of duck-speak in the PRC.

But a university professor who asked to remain anonymous said Yuan's comments were "nonsense" and harked back to the Mao era when China was shut off from the rest of the world.... "For the education minister to be saying such things is deeply embarrassing."
She added: "If we're going to reject all western ideologies, Marxism...much of modern science and even university education itself came from the West."
"According to Yuan Guiren, we should abolish universities, including the education ministry, and run private schools for the study of classical Chinese texts," she said.
"As we're traveling back 2,000 or 3,000 years, we could bring back foot-binding and speak in archaic Chinese."

Color me surprised that they didn't do this in the 50s. I had always imagined they took western textbooks and rewrote them in the translation process to remove anything objectionable to the party.

[Al Ahram] Two "homemade" bombs went kaboom! near a popular shopping mall in downtown Bangkok on Sunday evening, leaving one man with minor injuries, police said.
The blasts took place at around 8 pm (1300 GMT) near the busy shopping centre well visited by tourists and local residents, with police initially reporting they were caused by an electrical fault.
Later Sunday national police front man Prawut Thavornsiri told AFP further investigations had revealed the kabooms were triggered by two IEDs (improvised bombs).
"Two homemade bombs went kaboom! on a walkway between Siam BTS (skytrain) and Siam Paragon mall. They were hidden behind electric controls," he said, adding one man had received minor injuries.
Further investigations are under way, he added, without providing more details.
An uneasy calm had descended upon the Thai capital since last May when the army seized power after months of often violent street protests that led to the ousting of ex-premier Yingluck Shinawatra's government.

'No real idea of who planted the two small explosive devices. They were evidently amateurish, and neither designed nor placed to cause much damage or injury.
