I was hoping Gore would do jail time for his climate fraud scams, but this might be just as good.
AN investigation into claims of sexual assault by former US vice-president Al Gore is to be re-opened, US police said today. The announcement follows the identification of the massage therapist at the center of the allegations against Mr Gore.
Molly Hagerty, 54, told the National Enquirer that Mr Gore was "a pervert and a sexual predator" in an interview that hits stands tomorrow (local time).
She reportedly told the supermarket tabloid she had video surveillance and DNA evidence that would support her claims regarding her experience with Mr Gore.
Mr Gore was like a “crazed sex poodle,' she said, adding the encounter produced Monica Lewinsky-style stains on her black pants, which she has kept as evidence.
The tabloid said Ms Hagerty's name had been withheld initially as the victim "of a possible sex crime", but the massage therapist had chosen to go public to demand a police investigation into her allegations.
Shortly after the story broke, the District Attorney's office in Multnomah County, Oregon, and Portland police both released statements saying a woman raised a complaint in 2006 but withdrew it in 2007, before giving her statement in 2009, prompting police to investigate.
“If the complainant and the Portland Police Bureau wish to pursue the possibility of a criminal prosecution, additional investigation by the Bureau will be necessary and will be discussed with the Portland Police Bureau,' District Attorney Michael Schrunk said.
Ms Hagerty, from Oregon, said the 2006 ordeal took place in Mr Gore's room at the Hotel Lucia in Portland.

The WSJ added this: Cypriot authorities had released Mr. Metsos despite U.S. concerns that he might flee. Cypriot police officials said Mr. Metsos had surrendered his Canadian passport and posted bail of €20,000 and 9,000 Canadian dollars ($32,900 total). Hearings were set to begin July 29 on a U.S. request to have him extradited on charges of conspiracy to conduct espionage and of money laundering.
"Our investigation suggests he may still be in Cyprus because the only way he could leave is with a fake passport," one official said.

We contracted with Research 2000 to conduct polling and to provide us with the results of their surveys. Based on the report of the statisticians, it's clear that we did not get what we paid for. We were defrauded by Research 2000, and while we don't know if some or all of the data was fabricated or manipulated beyond recognition, we know we can't trust it. Meanwhile, Research 2000 has refused to offer any explanation. Early in this process, I asked for and they offered to provide us with their raw data for independent analysis -- which could potentially exculpate them. That was two weeks ago, and despite repeated promises to provide us that data, Research 2000 ultimately refused to do so. At one point, they claimed they couldn't deliver them because their computers were down and they had to work out of a Kinkos office. Research 2000 was delivered a copy of the report early Monday morning, and though they quickly responded and promised a full response, once again the authors of the report heard nothing more.
Guessing whether pollsters simply concoct their data -- it's cheaper, and more likely to please a client looking for a specific result -- is a parlor game among political consultants. That's what Markos Moulitsas is charging here.

If they believed it they probably wouldn't have voted for him. Ordinary people really can't believe it because it's so preposterous. They don't understand it. I think they'll probably understand that things have gotten worse when the next election rolls around but I'm afraid there's already been a whole lot of damage done. Maybe he'll be like Carter where ordinary people shudder at his memory but then after a Republican president or two they'll forget and another FDR/LBJ/Carter/Clinton/Obama type will come along to ratchet up the government control a few more notches. It's been a long, slow process since FDR passed Social Security but they certainly keep at it, don't they?

Russia has angrily rejected allegations by Washington that it had cracked an undercover Russian spy ring, but US officials said the Cold War-style cloak and dagger saga would not undermine a thaw in relations.
Russian prime minister Vladimir Putin said US police who arrested 10 suspected spies in four cities in the eastern US on Sunday had gone "out of control".
"I hope that all the positive gains that have been achieved in our relationship will not be damaged by the recent event," Mr Putin told visiting ex-US president Bill Clinton in Moscow.
Russia's foreign ministry has called the allegations baseless and improper, and the country's foreign minister Sergei Lavrov has questioned the timing of the charges.
"We have not had an explanation of what this is all about, and I hope that we will receive one," he said.
The arrests for alleged spying came only hours after Russian president Dmitry Medvedev left the G20 summit in Canada, and the White House has confirmed that US president Barack Obama knew about the FBI operation when he met Mr Medvedev for talks last week.
Russia's government says all of those arrested for espionage are Russian citizens and the charges against them are baseless.
"Lies! All lies!"
But both Britain and Ireland are investigating claims passports from their countries may have used by operatives in the ring.
An 11th suspect was arrested in Cyprus on Tuesday and freed on bail, police on the Mediterranean island said.
In Washington, administration officials said the case would not set back Mr Obama's drive to "reset" ties with Russia, one of the signature diplomatic initiatives of his administration.
"I think we have made a new start to working together on things like in the United Nations dealing with North Korea and Iran," White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said. "I do not think that this will affect those relations."
The suspects, some of whom lived quiet lives in American suburbia for years, were accused of gathering information ranging from data on high-penetration nuclear warhead research programs to background on CIA job applicants.
Details emerged about the accused individuals, with much of the focus on a Russian woman called Anna Chapman. While other suspects blended seamlessly and quietly into suburban American society, like Richard and Cynthia Murphy in Montclair, New Jersey, Chapman was a high-flying New Yorker with a multi-million-dollar real estate business.
According to the charge sheet, Chapman had been leading a double life as a spy since January, going to coffee shops and transferring sensitive information to her Russian handler via her laptop to his passing van.
A Peruvian journalist who has worked in New York for 20 years and is notorious for a kidnap scandal in Peru was also among the 11 suspects. Vicky Pelaez, 55, was detained along with her husband as they returned from a party. She is best known for her opinion columns, which often criticise the US government.
In 1985 she made headlines for being kidnapped by and interviewing the communist Tupac Amaru Revolutionary Movement (MRTA). In a murky affair, Frecuencia Latina later sacked her for allegedly fabricating the kidnapping. Pelaez emigrated to the United States soon afterwards.
Pelaez's family and friends released details of the FBI raid late Sunday in the northern New York suburb of Yonkers.
"They took them out of the car and led them to two vehicles," her son Waldo Mariscal told La Prensa Spanish-language newspaper, his mother's employer. He said FBI agents removed computers from the house and interrogated him about his parents' politics and finances.

Russian spy ring my @$$. I don't know what it was, but it wasn't a spy ring. Members of a spy ring don't know each other. Probably just some private attempt to con the KGB into sending them money. Since the US seems to be so inept these days, it is probably just being used as a distraction and to "prove" that our ability to keep tabs on this kind of thing is actually viable. There is no way that any kind of known, effective spy ring would be allowed to persist.

"Beating up these guys was such a relief I just cant tell (...dil ko kitna sukoon mila hai in logon ko peet kar... bataa nahin sakti hoon)," Nishat told TOI.
The middle-aged housewife, married to a Nainital property dealer Ali Kamal, was shocked to learn from her neighbours that Ali bought a 'talaqnama and was remarried to his two years girlfriend. "I made inquiries and found out it indeed was true. A 'talaqnama was issued from Sultanul Madaris this very month and my husband paid them Rs 2,500," she claimed.
Since there can be no divorce among Shias unless the wife is given an opportunity to plead her case, Nishat was livid and decided to settle scores with the maulvis.
"These men occupy an exalted position. One does not expect them to cheat. I would call upon other women who suffer silently to come out and raise their voice before it is too late," she said.
