Argentine Inspectors Refrigerated
[An Nahar] An Argentine truck driver upset that inspectors found irregularities with his refrigerated cargo shut two inspectors in the back and took them on a long, cold ride.

Sanitary control inspector Valeria Aguirre says during a routine inspection of a refrigerated truck they found that the food inside wasn't being stored at an acceptable temperature. They told the driver they were going to retain his cargo, which was described as desserts.

Aguirre tells Todo Noticias channel that she and another inspector entered the truck's refrigerated compartment to register the cargo when the driver became upset and said "I want to go, they can't keep me here."

She said Thursday he locked them in the back and drove off. "We grabbed what we could and the papers flew everywhere."

She says the inspectors called colleagues who contacted police. The truck was intercepted after a trip of more than 3 kilometers (about 2 miles). They were rescued safe but shivering. The driver was tossed in the slammer

Eliot Rodger's family: We are against gunz
Elliot Rodger begs to differ as he burns in hell...
On May 24, the family of Santa Barbara shooting suspect Elliot Rodger released a statement through their attorney saying they are "against guns" and support gun control.

On May 23, their son allegedly shot and killed 7 people, including himself, and wounded 7 others. Breitbart News reported his motive was "retribution" for women who had rejected his advances.
He could have just done some internet pr0n and left the rest of us alone...
Elliot was the son of Peter Rodger, one of the assistant directors of Hollywood's The Hunger Games.

According to the Post and Courier, attorney Alan Shifman spoke on behalf of the family, saying: "My client's mission in life will be to try to prevent any such tragedies from happening again. This country, this world, needs to address mental illness and the ramifications from not recognizing these illnesses."

Shifman also said the Rodger family is "staunchly against guns" and "supports gun-control laws."

So self-absorbed even Miss. Palm rejected him. That's sad.

Obviously their son wasn't against guns - except perhaps for his victims.

#7  One of the many sad themes of this story is how "the family" asked police for a mental-health visit instead of intervening themselves.

Now they blame guns, though the kid started with a blade. Might easily have been a pipe or bat.
Posted by: Skidmark || 05/25/2014 10:24 Comments || Top||

#8  You do wonder if the family had provided him with mental health care all along and just now the kid snapped (being at the age when schizophrenics do such things).

After the Newtown shooting we heard all about the young man there, his mother, the gun collection, etc. Somehow I don't think the press is going to dig as deep on this one. So we'll never know what the family tried to do for their son.

#9  By looking at his facebook page he could never get a girl. He was so into himself. Mental health issues are sad ones. His parents might me very anti gun, but they will eventually come to the realization that their son was a sick man. He needed help and others died because he did not get that help. They will certainly wrestle with the question of what they did wrong with this kid for the rest of their lives.

#13  Per the father it's all the fault of Politicians and the NRA:

Martinez's father gave a wrenching statement to the news media Saturday afternoon.

He was "a really great kid" whose "death has left our family lost and broken," Richard Martinez said.
No, he wasn't a really great kid. He was a self-absorbed loser of the first order. And now, listening to his father, I think I see where he gets it.

"Our family has a message for every parent out there: You don't think it will happen to your child until it does," the visibly emotional parent said, his voice rising to a shout in obvious agony.
"Why did Chris die? Chris died because of craven, irresponsible politicians and the NRA. They talk about gun rights, what about Chris' right to live?" he continued.
The LOSER took his own life you idiot. In other words he CHOOSE of his own free will to end his life.
"When will this insanity stop?" he said. "When will enough people say, stop this madness, we don't have to live like this? Too many have died. We should say to ourselves -- not one more."
When everyone is allowed to be armed and a loser like your son would be taken out before he kills too many innocent victims.
Police say the shooter also died.
"It would appear that he took his own life," said Brown.

The quake struck at 12:25 p.m. local time southwest of the Greek island of Samothraki, 210 kilometres east of Thessaloniki and 296 kilometres northeast of the capital Athens. It was also close to the Turkish island of Gokceada and the Greek island of Lemnos.

The quake caused 266 injuries in Turkey, including one person who was at death's door, according to the government's emergency and disaster management agency. The injuries were mostly the result of panic, caused as people tried to rush out of buildings.

Climate Change in Zim produces ethanol.
[Breitbart] Humanitarian NGO Human Rights Watch is reporting that Zimbabwe ruler Robert Mugabe faked a "natural disaster," forcing his citizens to vacate an area after a flood due to a state-media reported dam break. According to the report in the Christian Science Monitor, Mugabe turned the newly vacated citizens into "employees" of a forced labor camp in a sugarcane field.

After hearing word of the citizens' devastation, international humanitarian groups poured in from all corners of the globe, pledging assistance to the victims of the flood. Shortly thereafter, Zimbabwe military forces shuttled the 20,000 displaced individuals into a "transit" tent camp that was 80 miles from the flood zone. Zimbabwe officials referred to this newly created tent city as the Nuanetsi ranch.

The territory where the "refugee ranch" is located coincidentally falls within an area that has a plethora of sugarcane fields, used to feed a large ethanol facility on the land.
Somewhere, Al Gore smiles approvingly.

Niger arrests opposition members over coup
[Iran Press TV] Nigerien authorities have incarcerated

dozens of opposition members for allegedly plotting a military coup in the West African country.

Interior Minister Hassoumi Massaoudou said on Saturday that nearly 40 people, who are linked to parliament speaker Hama Amadou, were detained.

The minister accused them of planning a "campaign of terror" in order to destroy the democracy.

"They have been calling for violence for months. Our action is against people whose goal is to destroy democratic institutions."
The African nation has seen a series of attacks in recent days between competing parties.

The arrests come after a gun attack on the home of a ruling party politician and a petrol kaboom on the party's headquarters in which three people were maimed.

Earlier this week, police arrested Amadou's son and two others in connection with the gun attack.

Niger has also been the scene of student protests over the past week.

According to reports, at least 10 people were maimed after police used tear gas to disperse students who were angry at delays in the payment of their scholarships.

from the capital and another from Feni, RAB found that internal feud between Jihad and Ekram over establishing supremacy led to the killing that took place four days back in broad daylight in Feni town.

However,
today is that tomorrow you were thinking about yesterday...
Jihad Chowdhury, joint secretary of Fulgazi upazila unit Awami League, is still on the lam.

Seven of the arrestees, aged between 20 and 24, took part in the killing mission on Tuesday on the instructions of Jihad Chowdhury, RAB's Media Wing Director Habibur Rahman told a press briefing arranged at its headquarters.

The plan had been made at Salam Gymnasium in Feni a day before the murder, he added.

One of the arrestees was accused of giving shelter to the killers at his Bashundhara residence.

The alleged killers arrested from the residence are Abidul Islam Abid, Jahidul Islam Saikat, Chowdhury Md Nasir Uddin Anik, Kazi Shahnan Mahmud, Sajjadul Islam Patwari alias Shifat, Shahjalal Uddin Shipon and house owner Helal Uddin. Based on their statements, another youth named Jahid Hossain was picked up from Feni.

Abid, one of the prime accused, is son of the general secretary of Feni Mohila Awami League and cousin of MP Nizam Uddin Hazari.

Habibur Rahman told the presser that around 8:00am on Tuesday, Jihad briefed the killers on the entire plan for the killing of Ekram. A group of 60 to 70 people took part in the killing mission. Dividing into several groups, they had followed Ekram from his house.

Putin rounds on Charles: 'It's not what monarchs do'
[THEGUARDIAN] The row over the Prince of Wales's alleged comparison of Vladimir Putin
...Second and fourth President and sixth of the Russian Federation and the first to remain sober. Putin is credited with bringing political stability and re-establishing something like the rule of law, which occasionally results in somebody dropping dead from polonium poisoning. Under Putin, a new group of business magnates controlling significant swathes of Russia's economy has emerged, all of whom have close personal ties to Putin. with Adolf Hitler
...late Fuehrer of Germany, founder of the Third Reich, currently communing with his pals Himmler and Heydrich. He is reincarnated every few days as a politician somebody doesn't like...
deepened when the Russian president responded with his own withering assessment of the heir to the throne.

Asked about the prince's alleged remarks, Putin said they were unacceptable and wrong and "not what monarchs do".
And he would know...
The fallout from the comments, supposedly made during a private conversation during a royal tour of Canada, now look likely to cast a shadow over an event next month in Normandy to mark the 70th anniversary of the D-Day landings, which both Prince Charles and Putin are due to attend.

At a presser in St Petersburg, Putin said of the incident: "It reminds me of a good proverb: 'You are angry. That means you are wrong'."

The prince is understood to have made his comments to museum volunteer Marianne Ferguson, 78, after she told him her Jewish family fled the Nazi occupation of Danzig during the second world war. Drawing a parallel with Russia's annexation of the Ukrainian peninsula of Crimea in March, he reportedly said: "Putin is doing just about the same as Hitler."

In his response, Putin said: "Give my words to Prince Charles. He has been to our country more than once, if he made such a comparison, it is unacceptable and I am sure he understands that as a man of manners." He added: "I met him personally, as well as other members of the royal family. This is not what monarchs do.

"But over the past few years we have seen so much, nothing surprises me any longer."

Putin: Russia Sanctions Counterproductive
[VOA News] Russian President Vladimir Putin
...Second and fourth President and sixth of the Russian Federation and the first to remain sober. The old bunch, without close personal ties to Putin, are in jail or in exile or dead...
said Saturday that sanctions imposed on his country over its involvement in Ukraine were counterproductive and did not correspond to international law.

Speaking to a group of Western journalists at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, Putin criticized the West, saying support for an "unconstitutional coup" interrupted a constructive dialogue over Ukraine.

Those who instigated the "coup" in Ukraine should have thought more carefully about the consequences of their actions, he said.

Western nations have threatened to toughen sanctions if Russia interferes with Sunday's national elections in Ukraine. Russia's natural gas and oil industries could be targeted, for instance.

US novels banned from UK classrooms!
THE John Steinbeck novella Of Mice and Men, and other American classics including Arthur Miller's play The Crucible and the Harper Lee novel To Kill a Mockingbird, have been dropped from new English literature GCSEs after Michael Gove, the education secretary, insisted teenagers had to study works by British writers.

Three-quarters of the books on the governmentdirected GCSEs, which will be unveiled this week, are by British authors and most are pre-20th century.

"Of Mice and Men, which Michael Gove really dislikes, will not be included. It was studied by 90% of teenagers taking English literature GCSE in the past," said OCR, one of Britain's biggest exam boards. "Michael Gove said that was a really disappointing statistic."

OCR added: "In the new syllabus 70-80% of the books are from the English canon."
I think that's why they call it English literature...

Turkish PM's aide who kicked protester sacked
[The Peninsula] An aide to Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan who made front page news around the world after being filmed kicking a protester in the wake of Turkey's worst ever mining accident has been sacked, a government official said on Saturday.

Footage earlier this month showing Yusuf Yerkel apparently lashing out at the man - who was being held on the ground by two security officers - sparked widespread outrage and came to symbolise the government's widely criticised handling of the disaster, in which more than 300 people died.

Despite expressing regret for what happened, Yerkel was sacked by Erdogan earlier this week, although news of the decision only emerged at the weekend, the official told Rooters.

"Yusuf Yerkel apologised but it was too late. At the end of the discussion the Prime Minister fired him directly," the source said.

The incident had threatened to become a major embarrassment for Erdogan, who is already under heavy fire himself. During the same visit to Soma he became embroiled in angry altercations with protesters, who were expressing rage at Turkey's poor work safety record.

India-Pakistan
Learn lessons from rout: Sonia
[The Peninsula] Congress President Sonia Gandhi, re-elected chairperson of Congress Parliamentary Party (CPP) yesterday, asked party leaders not to indulge in "public acrimony" over the party's worst Lok Sabha results for which appropriate lessons need to be learnt.

Addressing a meeting of CPP, she acknowledged "there was widespread anger against us which we failed to adequately gauge" and asked party MPs to be "vigilant watchdogs" in their role in the opposition.

Party leaders said Gandhi will soon decide the names of leaders of opposition in the two houses of parliament.

Gandhi's remarks about the need for the partymen to stop bickering through media comes against the backdrop of a blame game in the party over its worst electoral defeat -- with its tally reduced to only 44 seats while it did not win a single seat in some states - with some leaders taking potshots at "Team Rahul Gandhi".

Her son and party vice-president Rahul Gandhi led the Congress campaign in the election. In her speech, Sonia Gandhi said she was asked by the Congress Working Committee (CWC) to take all steps necessary to revamp the organization at all levels.

"Your inputs, your experience and your assessment of our strengths and weaknesses, rather than public acrimony, will be critical to the exercise," she said.

In an apparent message to party parliamentarians, including her own son who was also present at the meet, Sonia Gandhi said that being in the opposition means regular attendance, more hours inside the house and more study of subjects.

"It means asking more questions, raising more issues, initiating more debates, always being the vigilant watchdog and defending principles of the Congress."

Under-trial prisoner killed by Camp Jail inmates
[DAWN] LAHORE: An under-trial prisoner was strangled allegedly by two inmates facing murder charges in their cell at a barrack where Friday prayers were offered in the Camp Jail.

Victim Qazi Afzal, 50, of Kharrak, Multan Road, was in the jail for the last four months in connection with two murder cases.

Shadman police registered a murder case against suspects, Raza Ahmad and Rashid Ali, on the complaint of the jail administration. A police investigator said the incident had taken place despite the presence of armed jail guards.

Camp Jail Superintendent Naveed Ashraf didn't see any negligence or security lapse. He said according to preliminary inquiry, Afzal went to the suspect's barrack for offering Friday prayers. The suspects, who knew Afzal before landing in the prison a year ago, took him to their cell and strangled him. He said a jail warder, assigned with the job to keep an eye on prisoners during prayers, was alerted by other prisoners.

Mr Ashraf said action was not taken against any jail official as an inquiry was still continuing. He said they would probe whether the suspects were hired to kill Afzal.

#3  This is one argument in favor of the death penalty. Some US states used to have laws requiring an automatic death penalty for any one who killed a prison guard. Then Lemuel Smith killed Donna Payant, and was sentenced to death. He appealed and was granted a new trial because the law did not take into account "extenuating circumstances".

NAB opposes Zardari's acquittal in corruption cases
[DAWN] Opposing the acquittal of former president Asif Ali Zardari in corruption references, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has submitted a letter to the accountability court of Islamabad regarding pending inquiries into the acquittal of his co-accused in the same references.

The letter submitted to the court on the last day of the hearing of Mr Zardari's applications for acquittal on May 20 stated that the Lahore High Court (LHC) was currently seized with the inquiries to ascertain how three court judgments carried identical texts in paragraph after paragraph and anomalies in separate cases acquitting all the co-accused of the former president.

The accountability court reserved its judgment after completion of the arguments from both the sides.

In the academic world, this may be called plagiarism but this has come out for the first time that court judgments carried so much similarities, said legal experts.
