Probably should not have said black thugs as not all thugs are black--should have just left it at thugs. However, crime statistics would suggest that an out-of-proportion percentage of crime is committed by blacks.

It's not about race, it's about where the majority of crime is centered: the inner cities and some of their immediate suburbs. You drop any racial or ethnic group into those conditions and after 2-4 generations you'll get the same result you see among the minorities currently living there now.
Back in the bad old days of segregation, before the opportunity of upper and middle class black flight, some behaviors weren't tolerated in the community.

A friend works near there. Let me tell you just how ugly the building was. No one wanted to rent or lease any of the massively overpriced spaces. My bet is that it was jewish lightning that caused the fire. Never let a crises go to waste.
For those that don't know...LA really has no downtown to speak of. Only lawyers and defendants are downtown during the day (courts are downtown) and only bums at night. That's over stating it, but you get the picture.
Yet they keep building these massive new projects to try and lure people to live downtown, but with little to no success.
Building this monster had slowed way down in recent months, telling me that they still had no anchor tenants and no leases on the penthouses despite many favorable articles in the LA Times and other local press mediums.
Can't imagine why no one would want to live in a marvelously appointed over priced penthouse, located where 5 freeways cross, and it's residents would be terrified to walk at night.

I was excited to discover what the Pope had actually said so I read the article far enough to find the actual quotation. Boy did the actual meat of what Francis said not match the headline. Certainly there is nothing theologically wrong with telling a kid that there might be dogs in heaven. I don't think we know much about heaven but I'll make my own theological pronouncement: there will be no dwarf tossing nor will there be wet teeshirt contests. There it has been said. I can't promise that either of those activities will be available in hell either for those who consider them essential elements of their long term entertainment needs.

[Khaama (Afghanistan)] According to reports, a Saudi prince has proposed $1 million per night to a famous American model and actress Kim Kardashian to spend the night partying with him.
It is rumoured Mrs Kardashian-West is set to fly out to Saudi Arabia in January, as a special guest of the prince.
The rumours were followed after Adel Al-Otaib, allegedly a member of the Saudi royal family commented on one of her many selfies in Instagram, saying: “I’m Saudi and I’ll pay you one million per night Mai”.
According to Media Take Out gossip website, the mother-of-one has accepted the offer, and will fly out to Saudi Arabia early next year.
However, Mrs Kardashian-West has denied she was offered $1m to spend the night partying with a Saudi prince, with her representatives saying the story was false.
The 34-year-old model has one daughter and is married to rapper Kanye West. She has previously been paid $500,000 to attend the 2013 Vienna Ball as the date of 81-year-old billionaire Richard Lugner.

[AnNahar] Ukraine says it will conscript 40,000 soldiers in 2015 and double its military budget as it tries to meet the demands of an ongoing conflict against pro-Russian rebels in its eastern provinces.
"We foresee calling up 40,000 men in 2015 and training 10,500 people who will do their service (as professional soldiers)," Defence Minister Stepan Poltorak told parliament.
Some will replace conscripts who have completed their tours of duty, so Poltorak said the total strength of the armed forces will increase to 250,000 from 232,000 this year.
Ukraine scrapped conscription in October 2013 only to be forced to reinstate it this May in the wake of Russia's annexation of Crimea and the outbreak of a pro-Russian insurgency in the east.
In 2013, Ukraine had only 130,000 people in its armed forces and called up less than 25,000 people for military service.
Poltorak said the military budget would more than double to 50 billion hyrvnias (2.5 billion euros, $3.2 billion).
Where on earth are they getting the money for this, especially given they've lost a good portion of their taxable territory to the rebels?
The conflict in the east has cost more than 4,300 lives and displaced close to a million people according to the most recent UN figures.
[NY Times] It looked as if things could not get worse for the South Korean airline executive mocked around the world this week for throwing a tantrum over a bag of nuts.
Then her father, the chairman of the airline, Korean Air Lines, stripped his 40-year-old daughter, Cho Hyun-ah, of the titles she still had in the family-run conglomerate. He apologized on live television Friday for her "foolish" behavior, when she forced her plane back to the gate and then kicked off the head steward after being served macadamia nuts in their bag, rather than on a plate.
"I failed to raise her properly," said the chairman, Cho Yang-ho, who bowed deeply and asked to take the blame, showing contrition in the traditional South Korean way when one's child misbehaves.
As if that was not enough, the head steward on the flight spoke up after days of silence, telling Korea's KBS-TV on Friday that Mr. Cho's daughter had forced him to kneel and apologize on the plane as punishment for the way one of his stewards had served the nuts to passengers in first class. The head steward was kicked off the aircraft when it returned to the gate.
"You can't imagine the humiliation I felt unless you experienced it yourself," the steward, Park Chang-jin, said, adding that Ms. Cho called him names, hit him several times with a folder of documents and hurled it at the junior steward.

[AnNahar] With an assertive Russia next door, Sweden has started to beef up its military after a decade of downsizing, but a credible deterrent may take years to achieve, analysts warn.
In one of the most dramatic steps since the end of the Cold War, Sweden has brought back the option of using reservists to boost its military force, making no attempt to hide the fact that the main motivation behind the move is Russia.
Defense Minister Peter Hultqvist went on TV this week to argue the move was necessary against the backdrop of Russia's rearmament and its annexation of Crimea, as well as the Ukrainian conflict.
The decision also came just two months after Sweden got a rough wake-up call in the form of a lengthy but ultimately futile submarine hunt in the Stockholm archipelago.
Although no Swedish official ever identified the nationality of the elusive mini-sub, it was widely believed to be Russian.
"There is a pattern of Russia elbowing into its neighbors, including Sweden," said Stefan Hedlund, researcher at Uppsala University's Center for Russian and Eurasian Studies.
"It could even be happening a little more with Sweden, because maybe they see that Sweden is a country with no defense capability whatsoever," he told AFP.
Following this week's decision, the Swedish armed forces can oblige 7,500 Swedes -- who received military training between 2004 and 2011 -- to participate in training exercises from the end of 2015.
The measure is a sign that traditionally pacifist and unaligned Sweden, which marks two centuries of continuous peace this year, is weighing new options.
"It's fully possible that Sweden becomes a NATO ...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. It's headquartered in Belgium. That sez it all.... member and that we reintroduce conscription and build up our defense," said Hedlund.
"But it's exactly as possible that nothing of this happens."
Much uncertainty surrounds Russia's intentions in the Baltic, but there is growing concern that the Kremlin could seek to push the envelope in the region the same way it did in Ukraine.
Poland's defense minister Tomasz Siemoniak warned Thursday that in recent days there had been "unprecedented Russian activity from its Baltic fleet to flights over the Baltic Sea", and on Friday his colleague in Estonia said a Russian plane had violated its airspace.
Amid the growing apprehension in the region, Sweden has sharpened its rhetoric, with new Prime Minister Stefan Loefven saying after the submarine hunt that the Nordic country would defend its "territorial integrity with all available means."
Those means are shrinking -- since the end of military service in 2010 the Swedish armed forces have struggled to attract new recruits.
To really make a difference, more is needed than calling up reservists, according to Hedlund.
"This is just a political maneuver from the politicians, because they understand that they've led a disastrous policy over the last 10 years, in which they've dismantled Sweden's defense," he said.
"No matter what they do today, it's going to take 10 to 15 years to build up a defense capable of protecting Sweden."
Sweden's military has not beaten around the bush about the consequences of a decade of cutbacks, with the commander-in-chief having gone on record as saying that he would only be able to defend the nation against a foreign invader "for a week".
Jacob Westberg, researcher at the Swedish National Defense College, argued that there is no reason to fear an immediate Russian challenge of the U.S. or NATO.
"But in the long run, if this asymmetric rearmament trend continues, with democratic Western Europe cutting defense budgets and Russian defense investments growing, the outlook in 10 or 15 years looks worrisome," he said.
Sweden's nearly 10 million people are concerned, and close to half want a stronger defence.
According to a survey by polling institute Ipsos for the daily Dagens Nyheter earlier this year, 45 percent of Swedes think that defense spending should increase, while 36 percent think it should stay the same, and only 10 percent want it to shrink.

If they are talking about joining NATO, then they must have really been jolted by Putin's actions - I guess Vlad just needs to start hooting about Lebensraum & get a Time Man of the Year award, and the transformation will be complete.
Still it would be amusing to see Sweden in NATO along with Finland. That might set Putin off enough to induce a stroke.

The Navy's 30-kilowatt solid-state laser aboard the USS Ponce is now being fired in operational scenarios by sailors in the Persian Gulf, marking the first-ever deployment of a sea-based directed energy weapon.
"We've tested it in the lab we've tested it operationally at sea. Now, we are not testing it anymore. This is operational," said Rear Adm. Matthew L. Klunder, chief of naval research at the Office of Naval Research. "They are using it every day."
If a small or large attack boat, missile or aircraft launched an attack upon the USS Ponce, sailors are equipped to destroy an approaching threat in seconds with the new laser weapon.
"If we had to defend that ship today, it will destroy any threat that comes in-bound. We have the ROE (rules of engagement) to support that," he said.
The Navy's Laser Weapon System, or LaWS, uses heat energy from lasers to disable or destroy targets fast, slow, stationary and moving targets. The system has successfully incinerated drones and other targets in tests shots, and is now operational aboard an amphibious transport dock, the USS Ponce.
