Block parties in Motown and Philly leave 1 KIA, 17 WIA
[MSN] A gunman armed with a shotgun opened fire on a block party in Philadelphia on Saturday, injuring seven people including three children, media reported, after 10 people were shot in Detroit, one fatally.

The two multiple-shooting incidents come just three days after a gunman massacred nine church members in Charleston, South Carolina, in a bloodbath that has brought focus back onto the pervasive and divisive issue of gun crime in the United States.

The shots rang out in a West Philadelphia neighborhood after the gunman turned a corner onto the street and began firing on the picnic, reported NBCPhiladelphia.com, the web site of NBC's local affiliate, citing police.

"It looks like they just randomly fired down the street and hit anyone in their way," the report quoted Philadelphia Police Lt. John Walker as saying.

Today's Idiot
GREENSBURG, Pa. (AP) ‐ A beauzeau who was tossed into the clink for knocking over a western Pennsylvania bank when he stopped to eat biscuits at a nearby restaurant will spend two to four years in the Gray-Bar Hotel.
"I've got such a big lead on the fuzz that I've got time to--"
"Police!"
"****!"

The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review (http://bit.ly/1K0lDr8) reports 32-year-old Shane Lindsey, of Arnold, was sentenced by a Westmoreland County judge on Wednesday after pleading guilty.

Lindsey was read his rights about 20 minutes after he robbed the Citizens Bank in downtown New Kensington on Jan. 14.
"If only I hadn't had the munchies..."
That's when witnesses saw a bald man matching Lindsey's description make tracks for a restaurant after the heist. Police knew the business had surveillance video and went inside to view it hoping for clues as to where the suspect went ‐ only to find Lindsey eating at a booth.
File under "O" for "Oops". Or "H" for "Hungry".
Police say Lindsey used the restaurant's bathroom to discard a coat and hood he wore during the forcible bank withdrawal.

German man cuts in half properties to give ex-wife her share
[Iran Press TV] A man in Germany has literally acted upon a court order to give his ex-wife half of his assets following their divorce by bisecting a number of his properties, including his car, bike, TV, and cell phone, with power tools.

In an apparent bid to publicize the case and his interpretation of the court order, the unidentified individual, who goes by the name of “Der Juli” online, posted a YouTube video for his purported former wife thanking her for “12 beautiful years” together and stating that she had “earned” half of their household despite accusing her of being unfaithful, RT reported Saturday.

Did this scene from Jurassic World just insult Pakistanis?
[DAWN] Jurassic World has been a mammoth success. It is well on its way to rake in $1 billion at the box office, shattering previous records but that's not what's making rounds on social media -- viewers are expressing disbelief over the supposed racial slur that they heard five to ten minutes into the movie.
Tut tut! A racial slur, was it?
One of the many species of dinosaurs that appear in the movie is the Pachycephalosaurus (pronounced pak-ee-sef-a-low-sor -us). When a bunch of them escape, one character states: "The pachys are out of containment!", which phonetically sounds a lot like Paki, the n-word for Paks apparently.
Back in my Army days we had what they called Forward Area Refuelling Points, which was abbreviated FARP. One went to a FARP to pass gas, and things went downhill from there. I don't think the guys that came up with the abbreviation did it to cause the hee-hees among the easily amused among us.
Although it sounds just like a short form for Pak, it's used as a pejorative against South Asian people, mostly in the United Kingdom. Obviously the fact that the script was penned by Americans and the movie was set in Costa Rica doesn't make a difference: the damage was done.
We also had those things we put on our backs sometimes when we went out for a hike. We called them "bakpaks." But we only called them that because we didn't like Pakistainians.

Morocco Students Jailed for Killing Islamist Fellow in Brawl
[AnNahar] A Moroccan court has tossed in the calaboose
Please don't kill me!
nine leftist university students for killing an Islamist student in a brawl at the University of Fez last year, an official said Saturday.
It's like the University of Paris during the high Middle Ages,
Abderrahim al-Hasnaoui, 21, died of injuries received in campus festivities involving swords and knives between Islamist and radical leftist students in April 2014.
Golly -- the same weapons those Parisians used, too.
Of 11 people charged, seven were given 15-year sentences and two others were tossed in the calaboose
Please don't kill me!
for three years, while the remaining two were acquitted in the appeals court hearing Friday, the source said.

On May 22, eight members of the security forces and around 20 students were maimed in festivities outside the courthouse where the case was heard.
Ok, that sounds like Dar al Islam. Were there also lawyers beating someone to a pulp, it would be Pakistan -- but Pakistan is a very special case, thank goodness.
In a country where Islamists are increasingly influential in institutions of higher learning, Fez is one of the last bastions of the left.

One year on: Economic policy under El-Sisi
President El-Sisi will be judged by his countrymen on the visible improvements in their lives that he delivers. Here's how he's done in the first year.
[AlAhram] Field Marshal Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi was sworn in as Egypt’s second-democratically elected president on 8 June 2014, less than one year after he led the popular ouster of his Islamist predecessor Mohamed Morsi.

Inheriting a legacy of long-time bureaucratic inertia, corruption, the post-2011 uprising political turmoil and security vacuum, in addition to the ongoing attacks on military and police that followed the ouster of Morsi -- all of which has taken a toll on the already fragile economy -- the soldier-turned-president vowed during his inauguration speech to boost the country’s economy through encouraging investment and achieving security and political stability.

While some economic indicators show that the government’s efforts are starting to pay off, El-Sisi himself stressed in his closing speech at the March Economic Development Conference, that the country would need "no less than 200-300 billion dollars" to rebuild itself.

#1  It is very difficult to maintain a real economy in in-stable regions and with unstable friends.

King Mubarak struggled with the economies in various regions for a long time.
He did try very hard to get the Sinai some relief.

Without a security dividend, a true one, that investment becomes moot and locals seldom stand up to maintain it unless there are heavies.
The corruption is rampant - a by product of islam to start with but added stress of Jihadis from ALQ and Daesh never helped.

Morsi would have already made this a state operation for Daesh had he and his nazis were still in charge.

My view:

Back Sisi to the hilt. Do not let him falter.

He is one hope we all have right now, because logic.

Also, I like him
alot.

College girl raped in city, three detained
[Dhaka Tribune] A 20-year-old college girl yesterday morning was allegedly raped by her friend's fellow in the capital's Shewrapara area.

Police detained three people named Newaj Sharif, Sohel and Rocky, friends of the prime accused, in this connection.

The victim told the Dhaka Tribune that her friend Sakib took her to a flat at west Shewrapara where one of his friends was awaiting.

Sakib's friend raped her there and the trio made a video of the incident, she added.

Later, she somehow managed to escape.

Inspector (investigation) of Mirpur Model cop shoppe Md Shafiqur Rahman said they made the arrest around 4:30pm. However,
those who apply themselves too closely to little things often become incapable of great things...
the prime accused Sakib and Shaon had fled the spot.

The victim was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital's One Stop Crisis Centre.

One of America's biggest grocery chains is on the brink of death
[CHRON] A&P is considering filing for bankruptcy, Bloomberg reports.

The 156-year-old chain was once America's largest grocer with more than 15,000 locations.

Now, it has fewer than 400 stores and it's struggling to stay in operation.

"Bids for A&P were due last month as part of an auction for the company, but no viable offers for the entire chain were received," Bloomberg reports, citing sources familiar with the situation. "That means the stores could be sold piecemeal, marking the end of what was once the largest U.S. grocer."

A&P told Bloomberg, however, that "No decision has been made regarding a particular outcome, and it would be inaccurate and irresponsible to suggest otherwise."

Scores injured in Swat scuffles
[DAWN] SWAT: Over 50 people were taken to hospital after they were maimed in scuffles over petty issues on the first and second day of Ramazan in Swat.

The scuffles took place during daytime in markets and bazaars over small issues. Extreme hot weather and severe loadshedding were reportedly the major causes which fueled the fights.

"There were over 50 maimed in Saidu Teaching Hospital's casualty ward last nigScores injured in Swat

scufflesht. Unfortunately, absence of doctors and nursing staff made the situation worse. The maimed were lying here and there waiting for first aid," Hassan Chattan, a social activist, told Dawn on Saturday. He said that many maimed brought before Iftar were waiting for treatment in the hospital. A resident, Saeedur Rehman, said that there were only two nurses to attend to the patients screaming with pain.

When contacted, MPA Fazal Hakim reached the hospital along the STH medical superintendent. However,

family members and friends of the injured complained that they could not solve the problem of medical staff shortage.

Meanwhile,
...back at the revival hall, the pastor had finally been wrestled from the pulpit.

duration of the power loadshedding was extended to 18 hours in Swat, creating severe problems for the people.

"We did Iftar and Sehr in the darkness and also offered Taraveeh without electricity. We are surprised that the electricity disappeared in Ramazan when people needed it most," Karim Khan, a resident of Mingora, said.

Residents of Saidu Sharif, Shagai and suburb areas staged a protest against prolonged power loadshedding. The protesters marched from Saidu Sharif and gathered in front of MPA Fazal Hakim's house to record their protest. After assurance of the MPA, they dispersed peacefully.

Man 'stabs' sister to death
[DAWN] A woman was stabbed to death allegedly by her brother over a domestic issue in the capital's Taramari area, police said here on Saturday.
She's 'dead' now.
The incident came to light when the injured woman was brought to Federal Government Services Hospital (FGSH) by her family where she died during treatment. As no one from the family lodged a formal complaint for registration of a case, it was registered on behalf of the state on the complaint of the ASI.

The police tossed in the slammer
Don't shoot, coppers! I'm comin' out!
the alleged killer and recovered the knife from him.

During interrogation the accused told the police that his wife and sister did not have cordial relations and used to quarrel frequently.

The entire family, including the accused, remained disturbed because of the quarrels.

He told the police that on Friday he received a call from his house that his wife and sister had gotten into a brawl again.

He rushed home and found both them scuffling with each other.

The accused further claimed that he succeeded to convince his wife, but his sister started quarreling with him and used foul language against him.

This infuriated him and he brought a knife from the kitchen and stabbed her.

The injured woman was taken to a private hospital from where she was referred to Federal Government Services Hospital where she died, police said.

Polio-like samples in India's Uttar Pradesh state ring alarm bells
[DAWN] Barely a year after India was declared polio
...Poliomyelitis is a disease caused by infection with the poliovirus. Between 1840 and the 1950s, polio was a worldwide epidemic. Since the development of polio vaccines the disease has been largely wiped out in the civilized world. However, since the vaccine is known to make Moslem pee-pees shrink and renders females sterile, bookish, and unsubmissive it is not widely used by the turban and automatic weapons set...
-free, more than 200 samples have tested positive to polio-like symptoms from districts in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, said a report published on The Times of India.

The samples -- from Baheri, Faridpur, Meergunj, Nawabgunj and other districts in Bareilly -- have raised concerns in the health department and have been sent for further testing to the central laboratory in Mumbai. Officials were also informed that children aged between 5 and 15 years have complained about loss of muscular strength and paralysis in their limbs.

In order for a disease to be eradicated, a country must have zero recorded cases of an infectious disease for three years, according to the rules by World Health Organisation (WHO).

India's last case of polio was reported in January 13, 2011, when an 18-month-old girl in a Kolkata slum was found to have contracted it. Three years later, the country was declared polio free.

PM Nawaz expresses resentment over power outages
[DAWN] Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif

During the meeting with Dagha, the prime minister also expressed displeasure over the preliminary report submitted by the Secretary of Water and Power and directed him to address citizens' complaints at the earliest.

Power outages during Sehr and Iftar timings were reported from several cities across the country on Friday contrary to the federal government's announcement of supplying uninterrupted electricity during these timings in the holy month.

Prolonged power outages of up to 20 hours were also reported from Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa
... formerly NWFP, still Terrorism Central...
, which resulted in violent protests.

Scientist Says Humans Will Be Extinct In 100 Years
A prominent Australian scientist is predicting mankind will be extinct within a century.

Frank Fenner, a professor emeritus
The next evolutionary step after tenure.
at the Australian National University, said no human beings will be able to survive the population explosion, "unbridled consumption" and climate change that is coming and will go extinct within a century along with many other species.

In case you were keeping track, the global population is about 6.8 billion.

According to The Australian, Fenner said he always has hopes he's wrong ... but at 93, he will be long dead and gone in case anybody wants to tease him if his prediction is inaccurate.

Any steps we may take now to reduce consumption, or the population growth or climate change is too late he said -- so we might as well prepare for the end.

He says the Earth has entered the Anthropocene. Although it is not an official epoch on the geological timescale, the Anthropocene is entering scientific terminology. It spans the time since industrialization, when our species started to rival ice ages and comet impacts in driving the climate on a planetary scale.

Fenner says the real trouble is the population explosion and "unbridled consumption".
Consumption - there's your problem right there.
The number of Homo sapiens is projected to exceed 6.9 billion this year, according to the UN. With delays in firm action on cutting greenhouse gas emissions, Fenner is pessimistic.

"We'll undergo the same fate as the people on Easter Island," he says. "Climate change is just at the very beginning. But we're seeing remarkable changes in the weather already.

"The Aborigines showed that without science and the production of carbon dioxide and global warming, they could survive for 40,000 or 50,000 years. But the world can't. The human species is likely to go the same way as many of the species that we've seen disappear.

"Homo sapiens will become extinct, perhaps within 100 years," he says. "A lot of other animals will, too. It's an irreversible situation
™.
I think it's too late. I try not to express that because people are trying to do something, but they keep putting it off.

"Mitigation would slow things down a bit, but there are too many people here already."

It's an opinion shared by some scientists but drowned out by the row between climate change sceptics and believers.
Eh, we've had a good run. At least now I feel more comfortable with the downsides of Global Warming.

#6  I've seen this a number of places on the internet, and it it does sound dreadfully shocking. But not only is the good scientist dead five years, but so is the article. I clicked in the link in Blossom Unains5562's submission, and got this:

Frank Fenner sees no hope for humans

#13  SNIFF, SNIFF, HE MUST HAVE WATCHED "THE AVENGERS:AGE OF ULTRON" BACK IN THE 1960'S - 1970'S - YOU KNOW, 2015???

Quite possible, given once again that the consensus of our future mighty OWG Govts-Perts which no American = Amerikan has voted for, nor been asked to, on GWCC is that there is no consensus.

D *** NG IT, GOD = "PROGRESSIVE INSURANCE" LADY IS WAITING FOR THE VOTE!

* "MINI-ICE AGE" = AFAIC, refers to a coming period of likely intensified SOLAR = SUN-LED HEATING UP OF THE EARTH + PLANETARY SYSTEM, as affected by interim periods of cold, icy weather ee "THE GREAT SLUSHY".

As a Madonna fan, I don't see any hard glacial ice as per 12-25,000 years ago - I see slushy.

As a reminder ...

* DEFENCE.PK/FORUMS > IRAN, WID 7000 YEARS OF HISTORY, WILL NOT BE LIVEABLE IN 20 YEARS [circa Year 2035 plus-minus] | IRAN - DRIED OUT!? POOR PLANNING, [ineffective or disastrous] POPULIST POLICIES, AND DROUGHT TO CULMINATE IN CRITICAL WATER SHORTAGE, 50.0MILYUHN PEOPLE WILL HAVE TO EMIGRATE TO SURVIVE.

Be it Iran or any other Nation, Maha-Rushian Historie' says the above is often a catalyst to wage war.

#15  "The human race, to which so many of my readers belong, has been playing at children's games from the beginning, and will probably do it till the end, which is a nuisance for the few people who grow up. And one of the games to which it is most attached is called, "Keep to-morrow dark," and which is also named (by the rustics in Shropshire, I have no doubt) "Cheat the Prophet." The players listen very carefully and respectfully to all that the clever men have to say about what is to happen in the next generation. The players then wait until all the clever men are dead, and bury them nicely. They then go and do something else. That is all. For a race of simple tastes, however, it is great fun."
