Sweet Home Mississippi
[NYT] PLUTO, MISS. -- TO move from Lower Manhattan to rural Mississippi is probably the most extreme culture shock available in this country. To do it as an Englishman adds an extra twist. But I fell in love with an old farmhouse while visiting a friend in the Mississippi Delta, bought it for next to nothing, in New York terms, and persuaded my girlfriend, Mariah, to move there with me.

I could keep working as a freelance journalist and maybe get a book out of the experience. She could finish her library science degree online. The city had been grinding us up, and decimating our bank accounts, and we were both ready to live closer to the land.

It was a difficult decision to explain to New Yorkers. They viewed Mississippi as a backwater, at best, and more commonly as a byword for ignorance and bigotry. One woman accused me of being a racist for wanting to live there, even though I was moving to a county that was 82 percent African-American. Most people were genuinely mystified, or doubtful about my sanity, because who in their right mind would choose to live in backwoods Mississippi?

#7  I met a young (late 20's) couple at a the Hale Spring Inn in Rogersville, Tennessee a few weeks ago. It's a bed and breakfast built in 1824 and still in operation as an inn, restaurant, and tavern. They were from Los Angeles and had found out about the inn on Facebook. They told me all their friends pleaded with them to not come here as, being a bi-racial couple, they would be lynched at the worst and beat up at the least. They came anyway and told me everyone they met was very friendly and welcomed them to East Tennessee. They were mildly surprised. When I was working in Boston I had to continually disabuse people of the belief the Beverly Hillbillies was not a documentary. Goebells himself couldn't have done a better job than our "media" at convincing people that the south is a bad place to go.

U.N.: Over 90,000 Hit by Somalia Floods
[AnNahar] Over 90,000 people in war-torn southern Somalia have been hit by weeks of severe flooding, almost half of them forced from their homes, the United Nations
...a formerly good idea gone bad...
has warned.
All the kewl kids are getting flooded these days: Egypt, Israel, Gaza -- though that was the hand of man rather than God -- Lebanon, Iraq, part of Iran... and now far away Somalia.
"More than 90,000 people have been affected since October 23 and an estimated 42,000 people displaced as a result of the flash floods and river flooding," the U.N. Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said.

Hardest hit are the southern Somali regions of Bakool, Bay, Lower Juba, Middle Juba and Middle Shabelle, with flash flooding in late October, the U.N. report released late Friday read.

Fighting continues in many of those areas between Somalia's Al-Qaeda linked Shabaab snuffies and government and allied forces, backed by an African Union
...a union consisting of 53 African states, most run by dictators of one flavor or another. The only all-African state not in the AU is Morocco. Established in 2002, the AU is the successor to the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), which was even less successful...
force that counts more than 20,000 members.

The U.N. said that while rains and river levels have now eased, the risk of more flooding is not over.

"Thousands of people in the low lying areas of the southern and central parts of Somalia remain at risk of flash and river flooding," the U.N. added.

Somalia is hit by seasonal flooding most years,
..also known as winter?
but weather experts also warn of the risk of floods sparked by the El Nino weather phenomenon.
Whew! Not global climate catastrophe, just normal cycles.
El Nino comes with a warming in sea surface temperatures in the equatorial Pacific, and can cause unusually heavy rains in some parts of the world and drought elsewhere.

The U.N. last month warned El Nino could drive the number of people needing aid soaring by over 80 percent, from some 12 million people at the start of 2015 to over 22 million people by the start of 2016.
And I could suddenly regain my girlhood figure and energy. But the odds are low.

Afghanistan
Interpol assists Afghanistan detain suspected killer in Iran
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] Interpol has assisted Afghanistan to detain a suspected killer in Iran.

According to a statement released by the Ministry of Interior, Mohammad Dawoud had escaped to Iran after stabbing a girl to death in Balkh province.

"Mohammad Dawoud S/O Mohammad Amin a resident of Quland Khalili village of Balkh's Sulgara District had killed his maternal uncle's daughter with a knife and escaped to Iran," says Brigadier General Sayed Afandi, head of INTERPOL's National Central Bureau in Kabul
...the capital of Afghanistan. Home to continuous fighting from 1992 to 1996 between the forces of would-be strongman and Pak ISI/Jamaat-e-Islami sock puppet Gulbuddin Hekmayar and the Northern Alliance, a period which won Hek the title Most Evil Man in the World and didn't do much for the reputations of the Northern Alliance guys either....
, in a statement released on Saturday.

The blurb adds that after efforts made by the Interpol of the Islamic Theocratic Republic of Iran the suspected killer was tossed in the calaboose
Youse'll never take me alive coppers!... [BANG!]... Ow!... I quit!
and handed over to Afghan side.

The suspected killer has been referred to judiciary for further legal procedures.

The Remarkable, Forgotten Story of How a Soviet Town Disposed of Its Dead
Sergey Parkhomenko, a Russian journalist and publisher, has worked as a reporter, an editor, a radio show host, and more. He is also immensely popular on Facebook, where he has more than 133,000 subscribers. A man of generally anti-Kremlin views, Parkhomenko challenged his social media audience on November 2 to tell him if they know the history of a Russian town called Kolpashevo. He received more than 5,000 responses—most of them saying no. Five hours after polling his readers on the subject, Parkhomenko wrote on Facebook again, telling a story very few Russians, it turns out, have ever heard. This post has attracted more than 12,700 “likes,” more than 13,000 shares, and more than 1,200 comments. RuNet Echo reproduces that text below, translated into English.

Original Article

Well what do you know. Five thousand people answered my impromptu survey in my last post. I asked if my readers can tell me anything about a place called Kolpashevo, located in the Tomsk region. Or if they knew anything about a particular place inside Kolpashevo: the Kolpashevsky Ravine.Colleagues at [the human rights organization] Memorial assure me that Kolpashevo’s history is well-known, has been written about many times, and is all over the Internet. In the 90s, moreover, a small book was even published on the subject.

Europe
Report: German Secret Service 'Systematically Spied' on Allies
In summary: everybody does it, the crime is getting caught.
[AnNahar] Germany's secret service "systematically spied" on its allies and various international organizations such as the Red Thingy, Der Spiegel magazine reported on Saturday.

The German intelligence agency BND has already been accused of eavesdropping on officials at the French foreign ministry and presidency, as well as the European Commission, on behalf of its U.S. counterpart, the NSA.

Public radio RBB and Spiegel Online had earlier claimed that the BND had also spied on its own account on several embassies and administrations of "European states and allies".

Spiegel, without giving any sources, said Saturday that "the BND had systematically spied on 'allies' across the world, including on the interior ministries of the United States, Poland, Austria, Denmark and Croatia."

It said the spying targets included the U.S. delegation at the European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
in Brussels and the UN in New York, the U.S. Treasury, and several embassies in Germany -- including those of the U.S., La Belle France, Britannia, Sweden, Portugal, Greece, Spain, Italia, Switzerland
...home of the Helvetians, famous for cheese, watches, yodeling, and William Tell...
, Austria and the Vatican.

It also spied on the Geneva-based International Committee of the Red Thingy and Oxfam, Spiegel said.

Germany had reacted with outrage when information leaked by former NSA contractor Edward Snowden showed that U.S. agents were carrying out widespread tapping worldwide.

But the BND soon came under fire itself over claims that it had carried out spying on European allies on behalf of the NSA.

Belgium and the Netherlands in June launched probes into the claims of espionage.

India-Pakistan
Reham signs divorce papers, refutes allegations against her
[DAWN] Reham Khan announced on Saturday that she has signed her divorce papers, thus officially ending her marriage with Pakistain Tehrik-e-Insaf
...a political party in Pakistan. PTI was founded by former Pakistani cricket captain and philanthropist Imran Khan. The party's slogan is Justice, Humanity and Self Esteem, each of which is open to widely divergent interpretations....
Chairman Imran Khan
... aka Taliban Khan, who ain't the sharpest bulb on the national tree...
.

In a statement issued from London, a copy of which is available with Dawn.com, Reham cited 'a breakdown in relationship' as the reason that led them to part ways.

Reham said the decision to take divorce from Imran was taken before she left for England, saying "it was best to part ways so our work commitments were not affected by our personal problems".

She, however, criticised and condemned the media for acting unbecomingly, as it levelled baseless accusations regarding the divorce and behaved out of accord.

"The quest for ratings and misogynistic witch hunt is shameful," she maintained.

While responding to the allegations, Reham said that reports of her receiving Rs50 million from Aleem Khan and Rs80 million from Faisal Vawda are false.

"The allegation of any physical violence is not only pure fiction but ludicrous," she added.

Reham also denied media reports related to someone trying to poison Imran, saying "no stomach washing was ever carried out".

While sharing her future plans, Reham announced to continue working on issues related to child protection and other projects and causes that are dear to her.

Earlier this week, the PTI had also rubbished the reports doing the rounds on local television channels and said that "Reham Khan had not hit Imran Khan".

The official response by Shireen Mazari, the spokesperson for PTI chairman Imran Khan, came after local television channels reported that there may have been a physical altercation between the couple.

Mazari had expressed regret "at the manner in which malicious rumours are being given out regarding the breakup of Chairman Khan's marriage to Reham Khan."

No brides for grooms who don't have toilets in Chhattisgarh tribe
[DNAINDIA] In a positive step towards the realisation of the goals of the Swacch Bharat campaign a tribal community of Halba in almost 52 gram panchayats in Chhattisgarh have decided not to marry their daughters in homes which do not have basic sanitation or toilets.

The campaign launched by the 10,000 members-strong community is called 'agar sauchalaya nahi to beti aur roti nahi denge' (If there are not toilets then we will not give away our daughters or bread). The step has been taken by the tribals to motivate people to build toilets in their homes and follow proper sanitation practices.

District president of the Halba Samaj, Virendra Masiha said, "Our aim is to ensure clean environment for everyone and this pledge would be a motivation for people."

The district is soon going to achieve a 100% open defecation-free status soon, an English daily reported.

India orders Greenpeace to shut down over fraud
[Rooters] - India has canceled Greenpeace International's license to operate and gave the group 30 days to close down, citing financial fraud and falsification of data, the environment watchdog said on Friday.
And who better to catch fraud than a bureaucrat in the Indian government? (oh okay, a Russian bureaucrat, or a Paraguayan bureaucrat, or a Democrat, or...)
Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government has turned the spotlight on foreign charities since he took office last year, accusing some of trying to hamper projects on social and environmental grounds.

Last year, Modi government withdrew permission to Greenpeace to receive foreign funding, saying the money was used to block industrial projects.

Under the latest order issued by authorities in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu where Greenpeace is registered
I told you we should have registered in Panama!,
the government said it had found that the organization had violated the provisions of law by engaging in fraudulent dealings.

Greenpeace denied any wrongdoing and said the closure was a "clumsy tactic" to silence dissent.
I'm innocent I tell you, innocent!
Greenpeace India has campaigned against coal mines in forests, genetically modified crops, nuclear power and toxic waste management.

In recent months the federal government has toughened rules governing charities and canceled the registration of nearly 9,000 groups for failing to declare details of overseas donations.

#5  The Indians don't call it the "Licensing Raj" for nothing. Their plethora of civil servants an agencies are poorly financed and before you do anything you must get a license to do it. That requires a trip of at least 3 levels per agency and more than one agency. If you are polite, soft spoke, patient, and form "relationships," the process for opening a coal mine is quicker and cheaper than building a duck pond in California.
"Now you have to go to Parks and Wildlife to get certification that your ducks are domestic and not wild." I snark but not by much.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Obama admin concedes: Mideast peace is beyond reach on his watch
President Obama has concluded that a peace deal between Israel and the Palestinians is beyond reach during his presidency and will press Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to take steps to preserve the mere possibility of a two-state solution, senior administration officials said Thursday.

The issue has taken on greater importance with the recent wave of stabbings carried out by Palestinians against Israelis, senior administration members said during a conference call with reporters about Netanyahu’s visit next week. They said that the administration has become “realistic” that there might not even be negotiations between Israeli and Palestinian officials before Obama leaves office.

Rob Malley, the National Security Council’s senior director for the Middle East, said that for the first time in two decades, an American administration “faces the reality” that a solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict “is not in the cards for the remainder” of a presidency. That, he said, has “led to a reassessment not only of what we can do but of what the parties can do.”

Ben Rhodes, deputy national security adviser, said, “From the prime minister, we’ll want to hear what his views are for how the Israeli government can take steps” to build confidence and “to make clear that there is an aspiration” for a two-state solution, which Rhodes said was the only way forward. What those steps might be wasn’t clear, though Rhodes and Malley said that the expansion of West Bank settlements remained an issue. Malley said the president would ask “how does the prime minister see things going forward” and hear his ideas of “what can be done in the absence of negotiations.”

Sources close to the U.S. and Israeli governments, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to protect their relationships, said that Secretary of State John F. Kerry is particularly worried about the expansion of settlements and the possibility of what one source called “creeping annexation.” Middle East experts said other steps might include measures to improve economic conditions and ease movement through checkpoints.

The tension between Israel and the Palestinian Authority will be just one of the items on the agenda when Obama and Netanyahu meet. They will also discuss the next 10-year memorandum of understanding on military cooperation between the United States and Israel; the chaotic situation in Syria; how to counter Iranian threats to Israel, either from Syria or through Hezbollah in Lebanon and Hamas in Gaza; and the implementation of the Iran nuclear deal that Obama championed and Netanyahu ardently opposed.

“Nothing can be done to cover up that we had a policy disagreement,” Rhodes said, referring to the Iran deal. But, he said, the United States would continue to look for ways to bolster already close military and intelligence cooperation to ensure Israel’s security.

#2  If Peace is NOT the answer and in my opinion ( which IS an opinion) is that Peace never was and NEVER will be the answer in the Middle East. The thing to do is ADMIT that Peace won't ever be the answer. And then decide who we want to WIN and who we prefer to LOSE. And then decide to really go in HARD to back our choice for who wins. Then shake hands with Putin and get him on board for who gets to keep the can of worms part what when we both chop up Syria and then work to eviscerate Moslems in general right across the spectrum. Don't ""occupy" any of the ruins. Just make it one big smoking hole and stack the garbage.
In a war somebody LOSES. Leave Islam to smoke garbage. Get them to kill each other ( which shouldn't be so hard, they love to do it and it makes them happy).
Emphasize and accelerate and get Moslems to do the heavy lifting parts. Play Moslems off on each other. They should find it very much in keeping with their own tastes. Make sure Islam loses/ poke them with a stick to go at one another. They will, its their nature. Move in here and there and finish off the wounded. Divide it up with Putin, share the gravy after robbing the cripples.
There might even be some money in it. Bravo Sykes-Picot/

#11  How can it be wid rivals KSA + Turkey vying for Pan-Muslim leadership in the ME, + Putin/Vladvedev-led Russia + Russia's "SPhere of Influence" now active or crossing widin Iran's "Sphere of Influence"???

AFAIC the Bammer is just PCcorrectly admitting that He's leaving the very same Anarchies-N-Chaoses he hinself + Anti-US OWG Globies did much to cause "as is" for his POTUS Successor(s) to clean up or even to WORSEN - IFF THE BAMMER'S POST-JAN 2017 SUCCESSOR IS INDEED ANOTHER ANTI-US GLOBALIST, IT WILL BE THE LATTER. I.E. THINGS WILL GET MUCH WORSE THAN E-V-A-R! FOR AMERIKA + AMERIKAN INTERESTS.

As a reminder, IMO China's agressiveness in the SCS marks the beginning of its efforts to achieve pro-PLA "strategic access" ASAP AMAP AFAP ALAP through the ENTIRE SO-CALLED "FIRST ISLAND CHAIN" INTO WESTPAC + FAR PACIFIC, TO INCLUDE THE PEACEFUL OR FORCED RECOVERY OF TAIWAN, BY 2020 NLT 2025.

CHINA = PUTIN-LED RUSSIA = IRAN, OTHER? = ARE EITHER DE FACTO OWG CO-SUPERPOWERS LEADING OR DOMINATING THE GLOBAL FEDERAL UNION(S) IN THEIR RESPECTIVE REGIONS, OR THEY ARE NOT = IFF YES, THEY REQUIRE OR NEED OTH = OVERSEAS "SOLE","SPHERE(S) OF INFLUENCE" BEFITTING SUCH = POTUS OBAMA'S JOB AS AN ANTI-US US GLOBALIST IS MAKE SURE THEY ACHIEVE SO, OR IN ALTERNATE ARE ON THE IRREVOCABLE PATH/TRACK TO SAME.

Until such time that OWG-NWO is PERMAMENTLY + IRREVOCABLY GLOBALLY SET UP + ENTRENCNED, Amerika = OWG NOT-America are far from being done vee the ME, Iran, Russia, andor China, ETC. TO COME.

DON'T FEAR ANTI-US OWG GLOBALIST POTUS OBAMA - FEAR MORE HIS OR ANY ANTI-US US OWG GLOBALIST POTUS SUCCESSOR(S).

Not all the above are DemoLefties.

Mizzou players say they'll strike until president Tim Wolfe resigns
[ESPN] A group of black players on Missouri says it will stop participating in football activities until university system president Tim Wolfe resigns.

The announcement came via Twitter on Saturday night in a post by Missouri's Legion of Black Collegians. It comes after several recent racial incidents on Missouri's campus, and with Wolfe under fire for how he's handled them.

The tweet included a photograph of 32 black men, including starting running back Russell Hansbrough.

"The athletes of color on the University of Missouri football team truly believe 'Injustice Anywhere is a threat to Justice Everywhere,'" the tweet read. "We will no longer participate in any football related activities until President Tim Wolfe resigns or is removed due to his negligence toward marginalized students' experiences. WE ARE UNITED!!!!!"

#2  ...Well, one way or the other, this is going to be dealt with fast. Mizzou, like most modern Div 1 schools, is an athletic program that happens to have a university. They're either going to hang Wolfe out to dry or those nice African American fellas will find themselves without scholarships. Sadly, though, I'm expecting the former.
