Hong Kong's leading crypto retail operator says it ceases trading as FTX fallout roils sector
HONG KONG, Nov 18 (Reuters) - A leading cryptocurrency retail service provider in Hong Kong said it has ceased trading as the broader fallout from the collapse of FTX, and solvency issues at other major crypto firms, continues to roil the sector.

Genesis Block, which at one time operated one of Asia's biggest bitcoin ATM networks, said it would be closing down its over-the-counter trading portal on Dec. 10, according to an email to customers sent by its compliance department reviewed by Reuters.

"We have ceased trading, as we don't know which counterparties would fail next, so we would rather close out all our positions to regain some of our liquidity," chief executive Wincent Hung told Reuters this week.

'Instead of sticking up for the safety of girls they stuck to their view of gender identity': Freshman speaks out after getting suspended for complaining about trans student using girls' locker room
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news]
  • Blake Allen, 14, was suspended from Randolph Union High School in Vermont

  • She complained she didn't want to share a locker room with a 'dude'

  • The freshman claims the school prioritizes 'gender identity' over student safety
A Vermont high school student who was suspended for complaining about a transgender student using the girls' locker room has blasted administrators for prioritizing 'gender identity policy' over the 'safety and privacy of girls'.

Blake Allen, 14, was suspended from Randolph Union High School and her father Travis Allen was fired without pay from his job as the girls' soccer coach for calling the transgender girl 'a male.'

In response, they sued the Orange Southwest School District Board, the Superintendent and two co-Principals of the school in Vermont District Court.

Vermont's state law means that students can play sports and use the locker which correspond to the gender with which they identify.

In an essay for Fox News, Blake says she was made to feel unsafe and uncomfortable after the student was allowed to compete in the girls' volleyball team and change in their locker room with them.

The first time the trans student entered the locker room, many of the girls were in their underwear and asked the teammate to leave but were ignored, she said.

Later, the teenager said she was overheard discussing with friends in French class that a 'dude' does not belong in their locker room.

The transgender student was not in the class at the time.

The pupil who overheard the comments reported them to the co-principals who launched an investigation.

Blake said: 'At school, apparently there's no problem with a male student freely watching us girls change our clothes.'

The freshman spoke with her parents about her concerns sharing the locker room and they and other parents spoke to school administrators to discuss the issue.

But Blake said: 'Not only did school officials make no attempt to provide us with any support or a workable solution, they made me the bad guy for saying that a teenage male shouldn't be allowed to watch us girls undress.'

She went on to say that young girls are now being taught that they should not speak out if they feel unsafe.

She said: 'If you don't comply with the school's preferred gender identity policy, you're the bad guy.

'For expressing true, commonsense, biological facts — boys and girls are different and must respect each other's bodily privacy — I was punished.'

The school then found Blake was guilty of 'harassment and bullying' and ordered her to take part in a 'restorative justice circle' with an equity coordinator, write a 'reflective essay,' and serve a suspension.

Her father Travis was also suspended from his soccer coaching job at the school after a Facebook post.

He said: 'The truth is your son watched my daughter and multiple other girls change in the locker room. While he got a free show they got violated.'

Meanwhile, the mother of the transgender pupil had commented on a Facebook post saying that Blake had 'made up the story for attention' before adding that 'the truth will prevail'.

In response to the suspensions, Blake and Travis sued co-principals Caty Sutton and Lisa Floyd.

The lawsuit alleged that Layne Millington, Superintendent, and the two co-principals, violated Blake and her father's First Amendment rights by attempting to dictate 'what may be said on matters of public concern.'

It also claims that the school turned a blind eye to 'death threats' made against Blake by the transgender student, who allegedly said after the locker room incident 'I'm going to f***ing kill Blake Allen'.

She says on the same day the suit was filed, the school rescinded its punishment.

Blake added: 'Instead of sticking up for the safety and privacy of girls, the school administrators are sticking to their preferred view of gender identity and will unfairly target anyone who dares to think differently.'

The conflict drew the attention of transgender former Olympian Caitlin Jenner, who tweeted 'Shame on Vermont!' for allowing 'biological boys with penises changing next to our daughters in locker rooms, and then have our daughters scolded by the school.'

It is not the first scandal the school have faced, after former co-principal David Barnett was sentenced last year for grooming and molesting a 16-year-old girl.

Barnett was banned from working as an educator, and jailed for a month, after pleading no contest to grooming the girl while he worked as her headteacher.

Ammo maker announces Georgia factory, hiring spree
[Townhall/Bearing Arms, Nov. 12] Bryan County, Georgia is booming right now; the population grew by almost 50% between 2010 and 2020 and Hyundai just broke ground on a massive new factory that’s slated to create 8,100 jobs when it opens in 2025. The car maker isn’t the only company that’s expanding into the county; Ammunition maker Norma Precision just announced a $60-million dollar facility that will be staffed by some 600 workers.

Norma Precision has a interesting (and international) backstory. While it was sold to an Italian gun company by a firm owned by the Swiss government, Norma was actually founded in Sweden by a native of Oslo, Norway.

Started in 1894, the brothers’ company was called Norma, and it’s likely the only company to ever come about as the result of a single rifle cartridge—the 6.5×55 mm Swedish Mauser. The adoption of that cartridge by the Swedish military created a demand for ammunition and jacketed bullets.

Just before 1900, the Enger brothers obtained a few secret, French Balle D projectiles and, with the help of their ballistic engineer, Karl Wang, they developed a process whereby a boattail could be applied to a bullet in a very consistent manner. This gave the Enger brothers an edge.

120 years of history in the books and now Norma Precision is writing a new chapter in the land of the free and the home of the brave (and Braves). How cool is that?

Nigerian soldier kills aid worker, injures UN helicopter pilot
[Aljazeera] A Nigerian soldier has shot and wounded a United Nations helicopter co-pilot then killed a humanitarian worker and a fellow soldier at a military base in northeastern Nigeria.

This was announced in a tweet by the Nigerian army on Thursday evening.

The injured co-pilot is on attachment from the United Nations Humanitarian Air Service (UNHAS) in the northeast, where the military is battling armed groups such as Boko Haram and its offshoots including the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP).

Samson Nantip Zhakom, the Army spokesman for the counterinsurgency operation, said the unnamed soldier went on to shoot and kill a worker from one of the organisations providing humanitarian support in the region, before turning on a fellow soldier.

"Own troops on the ground immediately neutralised the errant personnel," said Zhakom, adding that the injured co-pilot had been stabilised at a hospital.

It was not immediately clear what prompted the attack but Zhakom said investigations were under way.

UNHAS provides transport to humanitarian workers who travel to and from Maiduguri city, the capital of Borno state, which is the epicentre of the conflict.

Qatar Just Banned The Sale Of Beer At The World Cup
I definitely had this one on the World Cup bingo card.
[ESPN] - World Cup organisers have banned the sale of alcohol around stadiums in Qatar after last-minute showdown talks, FIFA announced on Friday.

First reported by British newspaper The Times, FIFA and Qatari organisers were engaged in late negotiations over whether beer would be sold at the stadiums during the tournament, which begins on Sunday.
"We don't need intoxicants! We got Islam!"
FIFA said in a statement: "Following discussions between host country authorities and FIFA, a decision has been made to focus the sale of alcoholic beverages on the FIFA Fan Festival, other fan destinations and licensed venues, removing the sales points of beer from Qatar's FIFA World Cup 2022 stadium perimeters."

While supporters can purchase alcohol at the (handful of) official fan zones during the competition, the sale of beer at the matches themselves has been a controversial topic.

Mexicans Angered as a Record Number of Americans Move South
[Epoch Times] Mexico has seen a rapid increase in the number of Americans choosing to live in the country since the pandemic started a new trend of remote work.

Nearly 1.6 million Americans live in Mexico, according to the U.S. State Department. Many of them are digital nomads and have chosen destinations like Mexico City, Guadalajara, Puerto Vallarta, and Mazatlan to call home. The reason is simple: it’s much cheaper to live there than in the United States.

One would imagine the influx of Americans migrating to Mexico with more buying power would be a boon for the economy, especially as the dollar remains strong against the peso. But for some Mexicans, that boon is a nightmare.
"Yanqui go home!"
"It’s not as simple as spending your money here is good for the economy," says Carriane Garcia, a Mexico City native. "Foreigners drive up prices, and certain neighborhoods are basically catering to them instead of the locals. It’s definitely a problem."

Wild boars 'weaponized by Israeli colonialism' against Palestinians - activists
[JP] Wild boars are being used as a weapon by the State of Israel against Palestinians, pro-Palestinian activists claimed on Tuesday.

"Israel is using wild boars to strengthen its colonial hold on Palestinian land," the Institute for Middle East Understanding wrote. "Israeli settlers have been found to release wild boars onto Palestinian farmland as a form of abuse. These illegal settlers use the boars to pressure and intimidate Palestinians, hoping to drive them away from their lands and vacate them for illegal settlement growth."

Palestinian researcher Rawan Samamreh claimed in a Mondoweiss article that Israeli environmental practices were allowing for the proliferation of wild pigs and denying Palestinian farmers the ability and tools to combat the issue. The boars damage crops and property and have even attacked people.

"Using wild boars is part of an older Zionist imperative to colonize nature," asserted Samamreh. "The JNF [Jewish National Fund] pines were used as weapons of war, which due to their acidity would kill all nearby plants in the Palestinian landscape and make lands unusable for Palestinian shepherds. The same is true for the weaponization of wild boars in the West Bank countryside."

Samamreh referred to reports that the IDF and Israeli settlers were being released intentionally into Palestinian villages, though noted that such allegations have been light on documentation.

#12  Israeli settlers have been found to release wild boars onto Palestinian farmland as a form of abuse.

Let's see how that would work...

Step 1 - Collect wild boars.

Step 2 - Provide onsite first aid. Call ambulances. Collect far-flung body parts belonging to you and your fellow 'collectors' for possible reattachment.

Step 3 - Realize that the boars have already eaten the body parts you can't find.

Step 4 - Place wild boars in a truck for transport to the Paleo farmlands.

Step 5 - Repeat steps 2 & 3 multiple times

Yes. The rules of kosher are stricter than those of haram — regarding food and food preparation, anyway — so apparently out in Dar al Harb (the house of war) observant Muslims are permitted to eat kosher food if good Muslim food is not available.

#3  the F-35 at the time did not have the complete hardware, software, or stealth

Nope. I knew they had the flight controls nerfed but really didn't know why until a few years ago. The stealth coating can't handle much in the way of speeds and friction, which is why they dumbed down the controls. They wanted to see what would happen if they assumed the worst for the coating against 4th generation fighters. It wasn't pretty. Fortunately, the coating allowed for better maneuvers.

The real killer/death dealer of the F-35 is its radar and networking.

Not only is all that data collected, it is sent back through the networks to the AWACS and the like to direct the missile boats and 4th generation fighters to targets that normally they would be in engagement range if they saw them. The F-35 is providing all the data. So they can launch at well beyond normal engagement ranges, slinging missiles up in the upper atmosphere to fall down on jets that have no idea they have launched. (The AMMRAM only turns on its internal radar 8 nautical miles from the target's estimated position from the data feeds which are always updated as long as the AWACS or F-35 has a target track) That gives the target slightly less than 5 seconds to react to a missile engage warning when the internal AMRAMM radar turns on. Very difficult to avoid.
