Xuming Li is arrested after neighbor Umar Abdullah caught Florida chemistry student 'injecting OPIOIDS into family's home' after complaining about noise
[MAIL] A PhD chemistry student has been caught on camera appearing to inject opioids into a family home after complaining about them making noise.

Neighbor from hell Xuming Li allegedly contaminated the Florida family's doorstep with so much 'chemical agent' their baby got sick.

The recent University of Southern Florida graduate was caught on camera after the family planted a hidden lens in a potted houseplant outside their home.

Shocking footage shows him loading up a syringe, before crouching down and appearing to inject a clear substance beneath the door.

Umar Abdullah, who lives in the Tampa home with his wife and baby daughter, said he was shocked by Li's behavior because he seemed like a 'regular guy'.

Abdullah moved into the condo with his pregnant wife in June 2022 and they were warmly welcomed by other residents in the building.

However, he soon began receiving texts from his disgruntled downstairs neighbor, Li, who lamented over losing sleep and hearing the toilet seat move.

After months of complaints, Abdullah said he, his wife and daughter began feeling sick and dizzy.

'I look at my daughter,' Abdullah told WTLA. 'Her eyes were full of tears. She was not crying, but her eyes were full of tears.'

The family were baffled about what was causing their mystery illness, until a friend visited and pointed out an 'obnoxious' smell in their home, Abdullah said.

He began investigating, starting by calling his air conditioning company, who found no issues.

Abdullah then called a plumber, believing the smell to be coming from his water heater - but that also came out clear.

Federal Court In Maryland Says Parents 'DO NOT' Have ‘A Fundamental Right' To Opt Kids Out Of Radical Gender Theory Curriculum
[Federalist] A federal court in Maryland ruled Thursday that parents don’t have the right to opt their children out of a curriculum that includes books about radical gender theory.

Biden-appointed Judge Deborah L. Boardman said that parents’ "asserted due process right to direct their children’s upbringing by opting out of a public-school curriculum that conflicts with their religious views is not a fundamental right," Fox News reported.

Last year, Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) introduced 22 new books into elementary-aged classrooms that featured LGBTQ characters and radical gender theory topics and then stopped parents from opting their children out of gender and sexuality instruction in March. The move sparked outrage from many religious parents who, along with Becket Law, filed a lawsuit challenging the district’s decision in May. Concerned parents requested a preliminary injunction that would allow them to opt their children out of the LGBTQ curriculum when school begins next week.

The district’s LGBTQ curriculum is intended to be taught to pre-k through 8th-grade students and includes references to sex change procedures, drag queens, "intersex" identity, gay pride parades, and preferred pronouns, according to National Review. One of the books also says that doctors simply "guess" a baby’s sex when it is born.

"Today, the district court decided parents have no right to notice when extreme ideology is pushed on their elementary-age children during story hour," Becket senior counsel Eric Baxter posted to X Thursday. "With the new school year beginning, the case is on the fast track to the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals—and the parents plan to appeal the decision."

"Children are entitled to enjoy a period of innocence and be guided by their own parents on how and when to approach the complex and sensitive issues being pushed by the School Board," he added.

At least 40 Yemenis smote by lightning strikes in July storm weather
[HODHODYEMENNEWS.NET] The United Nations

’ Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has reported that more than 40 Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of...
is were killed by lightning strikes last July.

The organization said in a statement on the agricultural climate on Wednesday, lighting strikes claimed the lives of 45 people and killed hundreds of livestock in various parts of Yemen during the month of July 2023."

According to the organization’s statement, the rainfall last July was characterized by active thunderstorms, pointing out that lightning strikes still poses a serious threat to the lives of cattle herders in various regions of the country.

It expected that the rains would continue during the fall season, especially in the highlands, while the rest of the regions would witness drought or little precipitation, in addition to the breeding of desert locusts.

Largest Newspaper Publisher, Gannett, Sued for Discriminating Against White Employees
[FreeBeacon] Gannett Co Inc, the largest U.S. newspaper publisher, is facing a lawsuit claiming its efforts to diversify newsrooms led to discrimination against white workers.

The proposed class action was filed in Virginia federal court on Friday by five current and former Gannett employees who say they were fired or passed over for promotions to make room for less-qualified women and minorities.

The plaintiffs say those decisions were driven by a policy announced in 2020 under which Gannett aims to have its newsrooms reflect the demographics of the communities they cover by 2025.

Gannett has also tied executive bonuses and promotions to success meeting the goals outlined in the policy, according to the lawsuit.

"Gannett executed their reverse race discrimination policy with a callous indifference towards civil rights laws or the welfare of the workers, and prospective workers, whose lives would be upended by it," the plaintiffs said in the lawsuit.

Polly Grunfeld Sack, Virginia-based Gannett's chief legal counsel, said the company always seeks to recruit and retain the most qualified workers.

"We will vigorously defend our practice of ensuring equal opportunities for all our valued employees against this meritless lawsuit," Sack said in a statement.

The lawsuit comes amid growing backlash to increasingly prevalent corporate diversity policies. Unlike other pending cases brought by conservative groups, the claims against Gannett were filed directly by the company's employees.

The Washington Free Beacon reported last month that discriminatory fellowships and programs, which companies often establish on the basis of elite law firms' "civil rights" advice, are now prime targets for legal scrutiny since the Supreme Court struck down affirmative action in college admissions in June.

These programs "are lawsuits waiting to happen," Noah Peters, the former solicitor of the Federal Labor Relations Authority, told the Free Beacon.

Law schools are also gearing up for a fight over their policies to boost diversity. Top law school administrators from the University of California Berkeley and the University of Michigan last month huddled to discuss how to protect those programs. They suggested schools take steps to avoid creating a "record" of "discriminatory intent."

Starbucks Corp, Target Corp, and Progressive Insurance are among the companies that have faced shareholder lawsuits challenging diversity programs. A group founded by former Trump administration officials has filed more than a dozen complaints with a federal anti-bias agency accusing large companies of discriminating against white and male workers.

On Tuesday, a group formed by conservative activist Edward Blum, who spearheaded the Supreme Court case, sued two major U.S. law firms over fellowships they offer to racial minorities and LGBT people.

The lawsuit against Gannett notes that the Supreme Court said in the decision that "eliminating racial discrimination means eliminating all of it."

In the lawsuit, plaintiff Steven Bradley says he was fired from a management job at the Democrat and Chronicle newspaper in Rochester, New York, and then passed over for a different position with Gannett because he is white.

Bradley in April filed a similar lawsuit against Gannett in New York state court. The status of that case was unclear.

Another plaintiff, Logan Barry, says he was in line for promotion to a leadership position at the Progress-Index in Petersburg, Virginia. After Gannett acquired the newspaper in 2019, the job went to a Black woman with fewer qualifications, according to the lawsuit.

The plaintiffs accused Gannett of violating a federal law prohibiting race discrimination in contracts. They are seeking to require Gannett to eliminate the 2020 policy, along with lost pay and benefits and other money damages.

Senegal: religious leader calls on opposition leader Sonko to end hunger strike
[AFRICANEWS] An influential Senegal
... a nation of about 14 million on the west coast of Africa bordering Mauretania to the north, Mali to the east, and a pair of Guineas to the south, one of them Bissau. It is 90 percent Mohammedan and has more than 80 political parties. Its primary purpose seems to be absorbing refugees...
ese religious leader has called on opposition politician Ousmane Sonko, who has been detained since the end of July, to end his hunger strike, adding his voice to numerous calls for him to do so in the light of news about his state of health.

Mr Sonko, whose power struggle with the authorities and the judiciary has kept Senegal on tenterhooks for more than two years, began his hunger strike on 30 July. He has been in hospital since 6 August and was admitted last week to intensive care, according to his lawyers.

Many have expressed concern for his health, while others are calling for his release.

One of his lawyers, Ciré Clédor Ly, has reported a serious deterioration in his condition, preventing his defenders and personal doctor from seeing him. He called for his urgent release in view of the "imminent risk to his life".

A delegation from the coalition to which Mr Sonko belongs was received on Tuesday by the head of the powerful Mouride brotherhood, the Khalifa General Serigne Mountakha Mbacké. The Khalifa asked him to pass on to Mr Sonko his appeal for him to start eating again, said a member of the delegation on condition of anonymity. He had dates sent to Mr Sonko, the same source said.

Religious leaders often play the role of political mediators.

Mr Sonko has been battling with the authorities since 2021, when he was implicated in an affair of indecency. He cries conspiracy to keep him out of the February 2024 presidential election.Mr Sonko was given a six-month suspended prison sentence in May for defamation of a minister, and a two-year prison sentence in June for "corruption of youth" in the vice case. He was imprisoned at the end of July on various charges, including calling for insurrection, criminal conspiracy in connection with a terrorist undertaking and undermining state security.

Zimbabwe: Dozens of poll monitors arrested
[AFRICANEWS] Zim-bob-we police said Thursday (Aug. 24) they'd arrested 41 workers for poll monitoring groups and seized their equipment including computers to tabulate the results of vote counting.

Votes are being collated after widespread delays in the southern African nation led to the extension of balloting to Thursday night at dozens of polling stations.

The arrested observers work with two accredited monitoring organizations — the Zim-bob-we Elections Support Network and the Election Resource Center — which deployed over 7,500 observers nationwide.

Police spokesperson Paul Nyathi accused the workers of being involved in "subversive and criminal activities" and "coordinating the alleged release of election results by some civic organizations."

The arrests, made during raids on various locations including a hotel, were criticized by the group Zim-bob-we Lawyers for Human Rights which said the workers were carrying out their mandate as accredited election observers.

The spokesperson for the main opposition party Citizens Coalition for Change, Charles Kwaramba, slammed a move aimed at barring observers from monitoring and broadcasting the truth about the election".

For democracy expert Nick Cheeseman, the arrests are intended "to prevent the parallel counting of votes" and the dissemination of "the clearest evidence to date that ZANU-PF thinks it has lost and has started to panick."

Zim-bob-we’s history of disputed elections has left many wary of official results. Nearly half of the respondents in a pre-election survey by Afrobarometer, a prominent research organization, said they feared "that the announced results will not reflect counted results."

T-Mobile US to axe 5,000 jobs as customer acquistion expenses bite
[GEO.TV] T-Mobile US has announced to reduce its workforce by nearly 5,000 positions, which accounts for approximately 7% of its employees in the United States, Rooters reported.

This move comes as the telecommunications giant addresses the challenge of elevated expenses related to customer acquisition.

Over the course of the next five weeks, T-Mobile plans to carry out these job reductions, focusing on roles within the corporate, back-office, and certain technology departments.

CEO Mike Sievert conveyed this information to staff through an email communication.

It's important to note that the retail and consumer care sectors will remain unaffected by these adjustments, as clarified by the company.

In anticipation of these changes, T-Mobile foresees an estimated pre-tax cost of around $450 million during the third quarter.

In early trading, the company's shares experienced a decrease of approximately 0.4%.

#1  I remember when computers arrived. More money, more free time and a positive impact on humanity. Actual result was staff cuts. No benefits as presented. Now with AI the same rosy picture of the future. The upper management of the corporate world loves AI. Useful tool to cut management overhead. People again only seem to be an expense, an overhead. Improve bottom line while elite ride above the storm. Lose contact with contacts and you lose market share very fast.

Railroad massively recruited people and overwhelmed staff. Two week newbie had trainer first week. Second week alone and was killed.Trainers recalled for update to prevent another death. Goal was just to massively infuse new workers(bonuses offered headhunters).

#2  I've been on T-Mobile for 10+ years, and the service has steadily, gradually gotten worse every year. I originally switched while working at a T-Mobile competitor, and it was cheaper than my employer's service even with the employee discount.
Posted by: Angstrom || 08/25/2023 11:23 Comments || Top||

#3  My last couple of visits to a T-Mobile shop did not instill confidence in the quality of employees. The one time, the clerk was more interested in what popped up on her cell phone than giving me, a potential customer, a modicum of attention. The next time, the guy, while going through the motions in "assisting' me, was more concerned with his dance moves.

They've also had a data breach or two. What a joke.
