Florida patient wearing medical gown flees hospital in stolen ambulance
[NYP] Talk about a sick ride.

A Florida hospital patient still in her medical gown was arrested Wednesday after she stole an ambulance, police said.

Marquisa Allen, 25, of Miami allegedly led Port St. Lucie officers on a bizarre chase when she spontaneously decided to steal the unmanned truck.

Officials said she had been sitting on a bench outside the HCA Florida St. Lucie Hospital — dressed in the blue hospital gown — when she noticed EMS personnel leave the ambulance running while they dropped a patient off inside.

Popular YouTube mum Ruby Franke arrested in child abuse case
[GEO.TV] Ruby Franke, the former creator of the well-known "8 Passengers" family vlogging channel on YouTube, along with her current business partner Jodi Hildebrandt, has been apprehended on charges of aggravated child abuse.

Authorities were alerted when one of Franke's children beat feet from an Ivins, Utah residence owned by Hildebrandt, seeking help from a neighbour.

Officials from the Santa Clara-Ivins Public Safety Department revealed that they received a report about a distressed juvenile in need of assistance.

The child displayed injuries and was found with duct tape on their wrists and ankles. The child was severely malnourished and suffered deep lacerations, leading to hospitalisation.

When police raided the house, a second malnourished child also was discovered. Both children were subjected to medical care due to their malnourished conditions.

Police established that Franke appeared in a recent video filmed at Hildebrandt's home, leading them to believe she was aware of the alleged abuse.

Hildebrandt, known for her "Connexions Classroom" mental health company, had Franke listed as a business partner. The police report indicated that Hildebrandt made statements implying that the children should not interact with others, suggesting her awareness of the abuse.

The "8 Passengers" YouTube channel, which boasted over 2 million followers, has been taken down since its controversy. In 2020, several videos prompted allegations of child abuse, with one showing Franke's son sleeping on a beanbag due to disciplinary measures.

Ruby Franke's daughter, Shari Franke, who had distanced herself from her family, expressed relief about justice being served, sharing her family's attempts to report the situation to authorities.

As the case unfolds, questions arise about the well-being of the children and the responsibility of those involved. With an extensive online following, the arrest of Franke and Hildebrandt has reignited discussions about the responsibility and accountability of YouTube influencers.

YouTube, in response to the removal of the "8 Passengers" channel, has not commented on the situation. The legal proceedings will further determine the outcome as concerns over child welfare take centre stage.

As the investigation unfolds, authorities aim to ensure the safety and recovery of the affected children while addressing the concerns raised by their online activities. The details surrounding Franke and Hildebrandt's arrest remain under scrutiny as the legal proceedings move forward.

How now, brown cow?
Oh, bebby! Don't stop!
[NYPOST] A British man snuck into a farm in the middle of the night and had sex with a cow – but was discovered when he triggered an alarm placed by the animal’s wary owner, the Mirror reported.
Ew! Ew1 Ew! Do ou know what it smells like back there?
A DNA sample proved Liam Brown, 25, had intercourse with the animal in Burton, near Dorset, on June 12, 2022, according to the outlet.
"Go ahead, Jones! Take the sample!"
"No! You take the sample!"

On Aug. 25, the sicko sobbed at Poole Magistrates Court when he pleaded guilty to sexual penetration with a living animal and causing unnecessary suffering to a protected animal.
"Stop it! I'm sufferinng here!"
"Shuddup, y' dumb cow!"

“The defendant was found by members of the farming family who had concerns regarding the welfare of the young livestock in question and set up alarms in the area,” prosecutor Charles Nightingale said.
"You there! Cease and desist that... what yer doin'!"
“On the night in question they were alerted by alarms and equipment they had set up with the result that the defendant was found,” he said. “Subsequently, samples were taken from the animal confirming the intercourse in question.”
"I hope yer prepared to do the right thing by our Bossy!""
Brown had been known to the farmers since he was a child because some of his relatives had been employed there, according to the report.
"Right! He used to do chicken!"
Bown was released on bail pending sentencing Sept. 22 at a crown court.
"Youse'll never take me alive, coppers!"
"Shuddup. Yer already in stir!

“It is going to crown court because the offenses are so serious it is possible you need greater punishment than we can give,” the judge told Brown as he sought to steer him straight.
"Okay! Okay! I'll marry her!"

Anti-White Racism and the Maui Fires 'No white man is ever going to live here.'
[Front Page] When Christopher Kunzelman’s wife was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, he asked her where she wanted to spend the last days of her life.

She chose Maui.

Kunzelman came from Scottsboro, Arizona, bought a house and prepared to move his family in, but he soon learned that he did not belong there. Locals warned him "this is a Hawaiian village. The only thing coming from the outside is the electricity," and "you don’t even belong in Hawaii."

While he was moving in the furniture, two men showed up. They told him, "You seem like a nice guy, but you’re the wrong color for this place." When he didn’t get the message, one of the men told him, "your skin is the wrong f****** color." and hit him on the back of the head with a shovel.

The Polynesian islanders beat him with the shovel, punched him, and kicked him in the ribs while he lay unconscious. They told him, "No white man is ever going to live here."

Kunzelman regained consciousness and made his escape while the two men were discussing how to kill him and his uncle. But when he made it to the hospital, the police refused to do anything even though he had severe injuries and had recorded part of the incident on video.

Meanwhile one of the attackers went out and assaulted another white man.

Elon Musk blames elite LA school for brainwashing ‘communist' trans daughter into hating him for being rich
[NYP] Elon Musk said that "neo-Marxists" who have taken over elite schools and liberal universities are to blame for the fact that his 18-year-old daughter wants nothing to do with her uber-wealthy dad.

"It’s full-on communism . . . and a general sentiment that if you’re rich, you’re evil," Musk told the Financial Times on Friday when discussing his estranged daughter, Vivian Jenna Wilson, who recently changed her legal name to avoid being associated with the Tesla CEO.

The mogul did not single out any particular college or reveal which one his daughter is attending.

"It [the relationship] may change, but I have very good relationships with all the others [children]," the father-of-nine said. "Can’t win them all."

#5  When a kid commits suicide after being repeatedly bullied at school, the school board and faculty, who knew of the bullying and had often ignored repeated complaints about it, circle the wagons and say "Wadn't us." But bring the trans angle in and they start screeching about how anyone who doesn't go along with the "gender affirming" dogma will "have blood on their hands."

I know leftists are inconsistent hypocritical, but it still bears contemplation.

#6  From my perspective the whole education system is a hive mind. Very few buck the prescribed path. Elon is correct that they’re neo-Marxists intent on teaching empowerment through victimhood, hatred of the traditional family and hatred of this country. Most teachers are dolts who are easily manipulated and prone to socialist ideals. They are generally spineless and weak. I’ve stopped giving money to my alma mater as I refuse to help fund the madness.

That's because they've enjoyed what is basically a state monopoly on their 'business'. Give parents viable options and those what actually care will take them. Those who don't - well, why should I care.

The time is right to honor the Vietnam War's most secret warriors
[MIL TIMES] The nation is commemorating the 50th anniversary of America’s withdrawal from Vietnam through Veterans Day 2025, per presidential decree. But we cannot allow any lingering ambivalence on the legacy of the war — or anything else — to further delay honoring the extraordinary contributions of our most covert warriors of that era.

When I recently received the Medal of Honor for the 19-hour battle my Army Special Forces unit fought in Bong Son, Vietnam in 1965, President Joe Biden said, "It’s never too late to do the right thing."

Mayor Hell-Bent on Stopping Tech Billionaires' Utopian City Plan
[Daily Beast] The backlash to a plan by tech billionaires to build a new city in rural California is gaining steam.

On Friday, Fairfield Mayor Catherine Moy will meet with U.S. Rep. John Garamendi and two members of the Solano County Board of Supervisors to formulate what she terms "a plan for defense" the secretive investors who spent more than $800 million buying up 55,000 acres on which to build their alternative to San Francisco.

"It’s not our first rodeo," said Moy, referring to a 1984 plan by a different entity to build a new city in Solano—a project called Manzanita.

Moy has already spoken to the grassroots organization that blocked the plan 40 years ago and to a host of constituents alarmed by the more recent proposal by a company called Flannery Associates, which is bankrolled by billionaires like Reid Hoffman and Laurene Jobs.

Flannery Associates has behaved in such a boneheaded way during its secretive six-year buying spree that it appears that just about everyone in Solano County is opposed to its plans, even before the details have been spelled out.

"The one thing that I'll say Flannery has done is they brought us together," Moy told The Daily Beast on Thursday, explaining that 95 percent of the hundreds of messages she has received are against the project.

"And by that I mean, citizens, environmentalists, other builders, politicians—all together to build a wall to stop Flannery."

File Under: Questions That Answer Themselves
[GateWay Pundit]

When the corporate media asked the IRS why it needed automatic weapons, millions of rounds of ammunition and heavily armed staffers trained in the "use of force," they said it was for "administrative reasons."

But we now know that the globalists are not just arming the IRS, along with just about every other federal agency. They are militarizing these agencies to the hilt with military-grade weapons not available to American citizens.

Why, for instance, would the IRS need armored vehicles, flash-bang grenades loaded with tear gas, and .40-caliber submachine guns?

The IRS has been arming up for at least ten years. At the end of 2017, the IRS had 4,487 firearms and 5,062,006 rounds of ammunition in its weapons cache, according to an August 8, 2022, Forbes article, "Inflation Reduction Act Unleashes A Tougher IRS." You can bet they’ve got a lot more than that stored up six years later in 2023

Gabon: General Oligui to be sworn in as ''transitional president'' on Monday Volume 90%
[AFRICANEWS] Gabon's new strongman, General Brice Oligui Nguema, who overthrew Ali Bongo Ondimba, will be sworn in as "transitional president" before the Constitutional Court on Monday September 4, the putschists announced on Thursday.

The country's new strongman, who on Wednesday overthrew the barely re-elected President Ali Bongo Ondimba by accusing his camp of rigging the presidential election results, also announced the "gradual establishment of transitional institutions" and promised that the country would respect all its "external and internal commitments".

"The President of the Transition will be sworn in before the Constitutional Court on Monday September 4, 2023 at the Presidency of the Republic", announced Colonel Ulrich Manfoumbi Manfoumbi, front man for the Committee for the Transition and Restoration of Institutions (CTRI), which brings together all army commanders, on state television
... and if you can't believe state television who can you believe?

General Oligui also "decided (...) on the gradual establishment of transitional institutions", the duration of which was not specified, and "instructed all secretaries-general, ministerial cabinets, directors-general and all those in charge of State services to ensure the immediate effective resumption of work and the continued operation of all public services", according to the front man.

The President of the Transition "wishes to reassure all donors, development partners and creditors of the State that all measures will be taken to guarantee the respect of our country's commitments both externally and internally", concluded Colonel Manfoumbi Manfoumbi.

Senegal: the conviction of opponent Sonko is 'final', according to the courts
[AFRICANEWS] The Senegal
... a nation of about 14 million on the west coast of Africa bordering Mauretania to the north, Mali to the east, and a pair of Guineas to the south, one of them Bissau. It is 90 percent Mohammedan and has more than 80 political parties. Its primary purpose seems to be absorbing refugees...
ese Minister of Justice declared that the conviction of opponent Ousmane Sonko in a morals case was "final", which makes him ineligible for the 2024 presidential election.

Ousmane Sonko, whose power struggle with power and justice has kept Senegal in suspense for more than two years, was found guilty on June 1 of "debauchery of a minor" and sentenced to two years in prison.

Having refused to appear at the trial which he denounced as a plot to exclude him from the presidential election, he was convicted in absentia.

He has since been imprisoned at the end of July on other charges, including calling for insurrection, criminal conspiracy in connection with a terrorist enterprise, and endangering state security.

The authorities question his responsibility in a series of episodes of protest to which his standoff with power and his problems with the justice system have given rise since 2021 — the most serious in June — and which have left several dead.

Mr. Sonko's lawyers argue that because their client has been arrested since his conviction, he must be retried. They invoke the texts in force on absenteeism.

In an interview published online Wednesday by the magazine Jeune Afrique, the Minister of Justice Ismaïla Madior Fall responds that Mr. Sonko was arrested "in the context of another affair" than the morals affair and that the rule according to which a contumax must be retried once arrested therefore does not apply.

"Why didn't he become a prisoner if he wanted to get his conviction in absentia overturned? It has since become final," he said.

"It is for this reason that Mr. Sonko was deprived of his electoral rights and that he was removed from the lists," he added. "There is no cabal intended to oust a presidential candidate."

Kampala police concerned about rising number of abandoned babies, young children
[AFRICANEWS] Police in Uganda are concerned about the rising number of babies and young children that are being abandoned in the capital Kampala.

They say at least 30 youngsters below the age of 8 are dumped in the city every month.

The crime of abandoning babies has put an extra burden on foster care homes who depend on charity. Here is a report...

Uganda's Police says it's getting more and more calls from people finding abandoned babies in the city.

The babies are mostly left on dumpsites and roadsides says Patrick Onyango, police spokesperson , Kampala Metropolitan

"At this central cop shoppe in Kampala in the month of August we registered two kids that were deserted or abandoned...and that is just one station registering two cases and we have nineteen stations if you add all that will bring the number up"

According to the 2022 Police crime report the institution recorded an increase of 23 percent in child desertion crime.

Local authorities blame the crime of abandoning babies on fathers denying paternity, unwanted pregnancies and parents struggling to afford to keep them.

And after failing to trace their parents, police place the babies in foster care homes.

But most of these childcare institutions are overcrowded.

"Right now I am being strained, you see my shoulder is being strained because I cannot handle them...we are trying to see that if they grow and reach an age that they can fend for themselves we have to let them go off."

Most of the foster care homes in the capital Kampala are designed to accommodate not more than fifty children at any one time.

But they are being forced to take in more babies who are homeless.

Bongo out, military takes over in Gabon
[AFRICANEWS] Mutinous soldiers in Gabon proclaimed their republican guard chief as the country’s leader Wednesday (Aug. 30) after placing the President Ali Bongo Ondimba who was declared winner of Saturday's election under house arrest.

The coup leaders said in an announcement on Gabon’s state TV that Gen. Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema had been "unanimously" designated president of a transitional committee to lead the country. Oligui is a cousin of Bongo.

In a video from detention in his residence, Bongo called on people to “make noise” to support him. But the crowds who took to the streets of the capital instead celebrated the coup against a dynasty accused of getting rich on the country’s resource wealth while many of its citizens struggle.

"Thank you, army. Finally, we’ve been waiting a long time for this moment," said Yollande, standing in front of republican guard members who had helped stage the takeover.

Coup leaders extended a night-time curfew imposed after the August 26 election.

Gabonese will not be allowed to move freely from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m.

The previous night-time curfew ran from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.

“The president of the transition insists on the need to maintain calm and serenity in our beautiful country ... At the dawn of a new era, we will guarantee the peace, stability and dignity of our beloved Gabon,” Lt. Col. Ulrich Manfoumbi said on state TV Wednesday (Aug. 30).

BONGO CLAN
Oligui, the new military leader, used to be the bodyguard of Bongo’s father, the late President Omar Bongo, said Desire Ename a journalist with Echos du Nord, a local media outlet. Oligui also was head of the secret service in 2019 before becoming head of the republican guard.

Ali Bongo Ondimba, 64, has served two terms since coming to power in 2009 after the death of his father, who ruled the country for 41 years, and there has been widespread discontent with his reign. Another group of mutinous soldiers attempted a coup in 2019 but was quickly overpowered.

The former French colony is a member of OPEC, but its oil wealth is concentrated in the hands of a few — and nearly 40% of Gabonese aged 15 to 24 were out of work in 2020, according to the World Bank. Its oil export revenue was $6 billion in 2022, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration.

Nine members of the Bongo family, meanwhile, are under investigation in France, and some face preliminary charges of embezzlement, money laundering and other forms of corruption, according to Sherpa, a French NGO dedicated to accountability. Investigators have linked the family to more than $92 million in properties in France, including two villas in Nice, the group says.

A spokesman for the coup leaders said that Bongo’s "unpredictable, irresponsible governance" risked leading the country into chaos. In a later statement, the coup leaders said people around the president had been arrested for "high betrayal of state institutions, massive embezzlement of public funds (and) international financial embezzlement."

The Bongo family has been associated with "systematic misappropriation of state revenues,” but the latest events "should be viewed with great caution, as they offer no guarantee of good governance and democratic transition," Sherpa said in a statement.

BONGO ASKING FOR SUPPORT
In weekend elections, Bongo faced an opposition coalition led by Albert Ondo Ossa, an economics professor and former education minister. Minutes after Bongo was declared the winner, gunfire was heard in the capital, Libreville. Later, a dozen uniformed soldiers appeared on state television to announce they had seized power.

Libreville is a stronghold of the opposition, but it was unclear how the coup was seen in the countryside, where more people traditionally back Bongo.

The president pleaded for support in a video showing him sitting in a chair with a bookshelf behind him.

"I’m calling you to make noise, to make noise, to make noise really," he said in English. The video was shared with The Associated Press by BTP Advisers, a communications firm that helped the president with polling for the election.

48 people killed in DR Congo while trying to stage a protest
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.

Kinshasa , August 31, 2023, 17:51 - IA Regnum. At least 48 people have died in the east of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) during an operation against activists who tried to protest at UN facilities. This was reported on August 31 by the AFP agency , citing a document from the Congolese authorities.

Congolese forces carried out an operation to prevent the demonstration, which was banned by the Goma City Hall. As a result of the clashes, 48 people were killed, another 75 were injured. Among the dead is one policeman.

There were no official comments from the country's authorities or the UN.

The demonstration was initiated by the Natural Jewish and Messianic Faith in Relation to the Nations sect, which combines Christian and traditional local beliefs. The leadership of the sect intended to stage a protest and enter the territory of the facilities of the UN Stabilization Mission in the DRC (MONUSCO) in order to force the peacekeepers to leave the country. Because of the threats against UN staff and their families, the authorities took action against the violence.

As reported by IA Regnum, in the east of the Congo, for more than a year, protesters have been demanding the withdrawal of peacekeepers from the country. They are accused of failing to protect the population. There is a terrorist underground operating against the UN in the region.

In August 2022, MONUSCO military and civilian personnel left one of the country's largest cities, Butembo, after violent protests. In September, one person was killed during a protest in the city of Beni.

Stressed dad of seven losing home of two decades in the dark as to what comes next
Retirement planning really wasn't Tom's thing.
[Mirror] A dad of seven losing his home of 24 years after retiring from his job says he's "not getting anywhere" in finding a new place to live.

Thomas Gillespie, 66, has spent more than 24 years working as a caretaker at Linacre Primary School in Bootle. During this time, Thomas and his wife Marie, 57, have lived with their 13-year-old son in a house on the school grounds which was provided as part of the job under service occupancy.

Thomas believes it was previously protocol for a retired caretaker to be provided with alternative accommodation by Sefton Council upon leaving the role. But when he started making enquiries five years ago about what would happen when he retired, Thomas claims he was "passed from pillar to post."

He was ultimately told he had to leave the school property by Thursday, August 31 - and was offered temporary accommodation which he claimed was "uninhabitable." He claims he has been unable to get answers to questions about his future housing options for years,

No human remains found 2 years after claims of ‘mass graves' in Canada
After two years of horror stories about the alleged mass graves of Indigenous children at residential schools across Canada, a series of recent excavations at suspected sites has turned up no human remains.

Some academics and politicians say it’s further evidence that the stories are unproven.
No reason to let facts spoil a good story.

Government Corruption
While Vets Wait for Care, VA Spends Millions on Transgenderism
[Front Page] The Veterans Affairs scandals that disgraced the Obama administration never went away. Instead the VA has stonewalled groups like Concerned Veterans for America (CVA) who have been seeking information about wait times for veterans. It’s not that the VA doesn’t have the money to treat vets, but that the money continues to be wasted on radical woke agendas.

After a prolonged battle, Concerned Veterans for America uncovered documents showing that the VA has manipulated wait time numbers to misleadingly portray appointments a month and a half away as having a zero wait time. This is a continuation of the waiting lists scandal under the Obama administration a decade ago that we were told had been successfully resolved.

The Trump administration and a Republican Congress passed the VA Mission Act to allow veterans more access to health care outside the system, but the VA obstructed veterans from getting ’community care’. Veterans who couldn’t get timely health care were warned against going outside the system and subjected to extra layers of obstruction by the VA bureaucracy.

The VA violated the VA Mission Act and its action likely led to illness and possibly deaths.

A USA Today investigation revealed that "VA administrators are overruling doctors’ judgments and preventing them from sending their patients outside the VA health care system."

The VA’s goal is to keep veterans from leaving the system to save money.

While the VA can’t seem to care for veterans, it is busy offering transgender procedures that include hormones, pre-op evaluation, and post-op care. The VA handles everything from using the right pronouns to storing sperm and eggs, and even hair removal and fake breasts.

Veterans with cancer are not being treated in a timely manner, but those whose mental problems lead them to think that they’re really women are getting fast tracked to castration.

DeSantis Super PAC Founder Flips To Trump!
[Republic Brief] The dissolution of a super PAC established to support Ron DeSantis with a substantial sum of $50 million has occurred due to the withdrawal of donors. Notably, the founder of this super PAC expressed dissatisfaction with the Florida governor’s campaign, attributing it to novice errors, and afterwards announced his intention to shift support towards Donald Trump.

In November, John Thomas, a prominent Republican strategist recognized for his adeptness in political conflicts, established a campaign named ’Ron to the Rescue’. This initiative successfully garnered financial support from affluent benefactors.

However, he stated that the funders started experiencing doubts subsequent to the unsuccessful DeSantis campaign launch on Twitter Spaces in May.

The occurrence served as the most recent setback for DeSantis, following the incident wherein a tree descended upon the Governor’s Mansion in Tallahassee amidst the occurrence of Hurricane Idalia on Wednesday. At the time of the incident, Casey DeSantis, the wife of the individual in question, together with their three children, were present in their residence. Fortunately, no injuries were sustained by any of the individuals involved.

The incident with Twitter Spaces entailed an interview between DeSantis and Elon Musk on the popular social media platform. However, the livestream experienced several disruptions, which provided an opportunity for critics to depict the DeSantis campaign as lacking in competence.

In an interview with DailyMail.com, Thomas expressed ’We were hoping to do like a formal TV campaign of air support when DeSantis officially launched. But the problem with that is with the Twitter Spaces blunder, like almost from the get-go, all of our major donors said, ’let’s just see how this plays out.’

Ben-Gvir bans Israel Police, firefighters from Harvard Wexner fellowship
[Jpost] Israel’s National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir is barring government employees under his supervision — including police officers, firefighters, and prison officials — from participating in a longstanding and prestigious fellowship program for Israeli civil servants at Harvard University.

Ben-Gvir issued the ban due to what he calls the left-wing political bent of the program’s funder, the Ohio-based Wexner Foundation.

A far-right member of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government,
Far right is anybody who effectively opposes globalist takeover
Ben-Gvir tweeted Monday that he made the decision to sever ties between the police and the foundation because of the foundation’s "involvement and cooperation with distinctly left-wing groups like Breaking the Silence."

Science & Technology
Ballooning Ambitions - ‘His Majesty's Airship The R101, Life and Tragic Death of the World's Largest Flying Machine'
[Free Beacon] On June 18, a small submarine called the Titan imploded in the depths of the Atlantic, killing five people on a visit to the RMS Titanic, which had sunk to the ocean floor in 1912. The question, of course, is why five men would risk their lives just to see the drowned corpse of an old passenger liner. The answer is that they knew, as we all know, that the Titanic is more than a wrecked ship. It’s a symbol of a time when we imagined and built great things—and saw them sink, too, from time to time.

Failure is inevitable in engineering pursuits. Yes, the lives lost from such engineering overreach are a tragedy. But early failures can provide instruction for future successes, and the unavoidable fact of occasional failure is the price of grand ideas.

Some grandiose projects fail from bad engineering, some from bad operators, and some from just plain bad luck. Others are simply bad ideas. Not examined enough, however, is yet another reason for failure or success: the cultural narrative behind a technology. America’s moon program, for example, succeeded in good measure because its race for technological advancement was willing to express a national purpose.

Or, for an example of failure, consider the sad history of zeppelins, dirigibles, and blimps. A recent book, His Majesty’s Airship: The Life and Tragic Death of the World’s Largest Flying Machine, reminds us of the power of narrative for an overly hyped technology that struggles to stay in the air. S.C. Gwynne tells the story of a 1929 British airship program that produced the R101 airship, a rigid-frame, hydrogen-filled lighter-than-air craft that, at 777 feet, was the largest airship of its time. Tracing the engineering challenges, the in-group dramas, and the political battles, Gwynne reminds us that behind every nut, bolt, and sewn cow-intestine hydrogen gasbag is an engineer, a banker, and a politician who help make the technology possible.

Lighter-than-air craft, beginning with hot-air observation balloons, had their beginnings in war. The ones known as "airships" are steerable vessels with a structural frame, held aloft by hydrogen or helium. At a time when heavier-than-air planes were dangerous, needed regular refueling, and could not carry heavy loads, airships seemed a plausible technology.

These early airships had their shortcomings. Lift—the upward force generated by buoyancy from the lightweight gas—needed to be managed meticulously. In calm skies, this task can be done by a back-of-the-envelope undergraduate-level force-balance calculation. But even the slightest breeze generates sufficient force to push the airship hundreds of feet. Meanwhile, the lifting potential of the flammable hydrogen gas is altitude and temperature-dependent. Rearward engines provided the linear motion of the vessel, but as the engines operated, fuel would be consumed, decreasing the weight. If more lift was required, excess fuel, cargo, and supplies needed to be jettisoned. Everything not bolted down or breathing was at risk of being thrown overboard.

#1  I wrote about the great airship development in 2006, when the wreck of the US airship Macon was discovered off the coast of California.
Sky Sisters.https://ncobrief.com/index.php/archives/sky-sisters/
Thespectacular loss of the Hindenburg, two years after the crash of the Macon, only added to public misgivings, although the argument has been made that the great airships were doomed, by increasing competition from commercial airplane services and the coming of a new war, where conventional air craft would be of far more use. But the fairly constant series of spectacular airship disasters probably darkened the public and the political view, too. In the long run, airplanes may have been as much at a hazard, the development of air services just as rocky, and the cumulative casualties just as many. But there was enormous prestige placed in those few great dirigible projects, and great expectations by the public made the various disasters all the more public and crushing.

#2  ...A little more background:

There were two airships - R100, which was a privately built ship, and R101, built under the direct design and control of the Air Ministry. 100 pretty much sailed through construction, not without issues but mostly on time and under budget. 101, however, was an overweight and structurally iffy mess.

100 flew first - spectacularly to Canada and back - badly embarrassing the 101 team, which now felt compelled to make a flight to India. That flight ended in a French wood after just a few hours with a crash that killed all but twelve of the fifty-six people aboard.

That ended the British rigid airship program. 100 was never even allowed to fly again and was quietly scrapped a few years later. The British government had her dismantled, the framework run over with steamrollers, then sold.

Fukushima has not made fish radioactive – Russian data
The fish caught in Russia’s Far Eastern seas since Japan began releasing wastewater from the Fukushima nuclear power plant into the ocean last week show no excessive levels of radiation, Russia’s veterinary and phytosanitary watchdog, Rosselkhoznadzor, has announced.

According to the agency, 443 samples of fish products, including cod, fluke, walleye pollock, halibut, salmon, crab, mussels and canned food, have been studied by its experts.

There were "no positive findings" in the tested products, with the level of radiation in them being within the normal range, Rosselkhoznadzor said. The results "indicate the safety of fish products," it concluded.

Since Russia hopes to benefit by the Chinese ban on Japanese products - as well as net exporting (rather than importing) seafoods to Japan - I'd listen.
