[NATION.PK] Violence has not ceased in the frontline province of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa ... formerly NWFP, still Terrorism Central... , as four Customs officials patrolling the Hangu Road, in Kohat, were rubbed out by unknown assailants, on Wednesday. The law and order situation in the province has been seriously affected due to holy warrior strongholds and close proximity with FATA. Migration from Afghanisation and FATA has contributed to the problem. It may not have caused much trouble had proper registration of refugees and displaced persons been carried out at the time of their arrival two decades back and recently. When law enforcement agencies are not even aware of certain people residing in the province, it is highly unlikely that they will be able to shield the larger populace from their actions. The attack on the Army Public School in Beautiful Downtown Peshawar ...capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (formerly known as the North-West Frontier Province), administrative and economic hub for the Federally Administered Tribal Areas of Pakistan. Peshawar is situated near the eastern end of the Khyber Pass, convenient to the Pak-Afghan border. Peshawar has evolved into one of Pakistan's most ethnically and linguistically diverse cities, which means lots of gunfire. too could have been avoided had the government acted on intelligence reports and the military would have played its part in securing an area largely under its control.
Following the incident, the police has been conducting "search operations" mainly in Malakand, Mardan, Hangu, DI Khan and Peshawar. According to reports, 2,166 search operations have been carried out so resulting in the arrest of 4,582 people, 2,141 amongst them from Peshawar alone. Moreover, approximately 24,000 houses and 6,000 hotels have been searched as well. While LEAs appear to have taken on a somewhat proactive role, it is difficult to conclude that these actions will have significant and lasting consequences. The courts, where suspects will be presented, may not be satisfied with the evidence presented before it as it often happens. Reform, that is critically needed for lower courts and prosecution, remains missing.
Under the PTI-led coalition government in KP, the police has indeed shown some improvement. There are less complaints of meddling by politicians, and IG Nasir Khan Durrani has set a new precedent by taking action against corrupt officials. But still, the province has suffered due to lack of attention from provincial and central leaders . The time wasted by Imran Khan ... aka Taliban Khan, who ain't the sharpest bulb on the national tree... and KP Chief Minister Pervaiz Khattak on the container may have been better spent in service of the people who elected them to power. While people respond positively to the change in police, they are not entirely pleased with the PTI leadership, which they accuse of negligence. The law and order situation in KP cannot be improved without countering the pro-terrorism narrative. On this front, the PTI and JI are hopelessly inefficient, even unwilling, and in fact, often contribute to the problem. This much has become clear: this KP government will never present itself as the wall standing between the people and terrorists.

mention that the Tehran stock exchange declined by about 15% in 2014 in Iranian Rial and about 30% dollar value. It now takes about 30,000 Iranian Rial to buy one dollar. Also the unemployment rate, suicide rate and addiction rates are high. But, this evidently doesn't merit Mr Smyth's comment.

Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems.... 's threat to human values in the cradle of civilisation.
The barbaric form of death inflicted on Jordan's Moaz al-Kasasbeh and the killing of the Japanese hostages are only two examples of IS brutality in a long list of crimes against humanity since the group began its murderous but unstoppable military advance from western Iraq to sweep into Syria and reach the Turkish border.
Jordan's King Abdullah II vowed an "earth-shattering response", Saudi King Salman ...either the largest species of Pacific salmon or the current Sheikh of the Burnin' Sands, Cutodian of the Two Holy Mosquesand Lord of Most of the Arabians.... bin Abdul Aziz called the pilot's murder an "odious crime", Al Azhar denounced it as un-Islamic, while the UAE said this was "a brutal escalation" of the war by the terrorist group.
An angry Japanese prime minister, Shinzo Abe, pledged his government's continued support to the war on terror, and US President Barack Obama Jedi mind meld... promised "decisive action". But, despite this diplomatic rhetoric, the situation on the ground hasn't changed much, and the IS militia looks unbeaten.
The only setback the forces of Evil have suffered is their failure to take Kobane. But this relative success for the US-led coalition was due to the tenacity shown by the Kurdish fighters.
Jordan has responded by hanging two jihadists, but, as remarked by the dead pilot's father, execution is no response, because what is missing is a concerted military offensive commensurate with the task involved.
In fact, it is surprising that, with such a massive military presence in the region, the US is unable to reverse the IS tide.
Also puzzling is Turkey's aloofness from the events unfolding in its 'underbelly', as is the total absence from the scene of the Iraqi government.
The truth is that vast sections of people in the Middle East do not believe all parties in the US-led coalition have their heart in the fighting, and the Islamic State's forces of Evil enjoy many parties' tacit sympathy.
