THE SITUATION IN THE DONBAS, UKRAINE
In its daily estimate of the war, the British Ministry of Defense focused on the fighting in the Donbas and how the current situation favors the Ukrainian military.
“Russian offensive operations remain reduced in scope and scale, with fighting west of Lysychansk focussed on Siversk and Bakhmut. This is despite Russian claims to have entered the outskirts of Siversk town earlier in the week,” the British Military Intelligence assessed.
“Russia has previously made premature and false claims of success. This is likely at least in part aimed at demonstrating success to domestic audiences and to reinforce the morale of the fighting forces,” the British Ministry of Defense added.
Something that we have covered before here at 19FortyFive is that despite the Russian advances of the past couple of weeks, the current situation actually favors the Ukrainian defenders before the frontlines have shrunk and straightened. Whereas before, during the battles for Severodonetsk and Lysychansk, the Russian forces were attacking from five and six directions, now they can only do so from three, thus making it easier for the Ukrainian forces to defend.
“Ukrainian defence has been successful in repulsing Russian attacks since Lysychansk was ceded and the Ukrainian defensive line was shortened and straightened. This has allowed for the concentration of force and fires against reduced Russian attacks and has been instrumental in reducing Russia’s momentum,” the British Military Intelligence assessed.
RUSSIAN CASUALTIES IN UKRAINE
The Russian military continues to suffer heavy casualties in Ukraine, and the Kremlin is hard to put to replace the men it has lost. Moscow is increasingly relying on ad hoc measures to bolster its combat forces on the frontlines. Nomonhan: Japan Against Russia, 1939 by Alvin D. Coox is a great book covering the multiple battles culminating in Zhukov's double envelopment. Also very interesting is the author's side comments on the Kwangtung Army and the final Soviet attack in 1945.
One anecdote was about a junior Japanese officer in the intelligence branch that honestly told his superiors that that the Soviets could simply throw 130% more at them over the Trans-Siberian Railroad than the Japanese could respond with --- he was told to "sit down, shut up and show the proper samurai spirit." As Mike Kozlowski noted that Japanese had bigger strategic goals (oil, rubber ant et,) and the defeat had made them hesitant at unnecessarily provoking the Soviet bear.

Which was their mistake. The American public were not interested in war over Europe's Asian colonies. Their own, the Philippines, were already scheduled for independence in 1946. They didn't have to attack to protect the line of supply from Japan to the Dutch East Indies oil fields. As it turned out, a fatal miscalculation.

...There is an extraordinary book called The Bunker by James O'Donnell, about the last days of WWII in Berlin. O'Donnell touches on this subject briefly but powerfully.
Short version: It happened, and the postwar West German leadership did not discuss it.
For fear of pi$$ing off the Russians.

I know it sounds insensitive an' all that in light of our great... civilization. But that is just a construct of convenience, like the social contract. Man is an animal, he lives for this shit. Give him a chance and off he'll go.
Which is why people need religion, a moral grounding, some baseline, some substratum of ethics. I suspect communism, other mechanistic or hate filled paradigms strip man of that capability?

We had this inter-agency op, badanov, summer of 2001. Kashmir. Just cleaning up leftover paki insurgents who had hidden within India after the Kargil. Paramilitary, local police, special forces all working under the army operations directorate, to flush them out, hunt them down. Because the Moslems liked to hide them in their homes, lie about them being family, the police boys tended to get a little... creative sometimes. It was only threats and a bit of hassling their girlies mind you. But tolerate that sort of thing once, let it pass and soon you have others taking worse liberties. I'll admit it was bad leadership on the part of the army commanders. The religious and cultural animosity being what it is, there soon occurred some incidents of molestation and one of rape.
In just under a day, the enemy, fuelled with rhetoric from Islamabad to London, had painted the entire Indian army as psycho rapists bashing in doors with their sausages and raping everything that moved. For years, that narrative built up, salted and peppered with masala by Kashmiri Ahed Tamimi types claiming they were all violated by unnamed armymen who 'came in the night' and rappity rape raped them.

Also beaten up, pillaged, and plundered. Might not happen, but bullying is contagious, especially when far from normal circumstances among the home folks.
On the other hand, the horror stories about what UN troops do to the communities they are there to help — being staffed as they are primarily by rented units from Third World countries, have been discussed here regularly over the years. So being conquered is clearly not the prime requisite for the risk of such treatment.

Even the simplest Ivan understood that you don't do that in from of the old man. Berlin was worst of all, in that the officers were too busy trying to stay alive themselves (it is telling that to this day, the Russians still have not released accurate figures on their losses there) and in a major city, larger than anything 99.9% of the Russians had ever seen, where there were simply so many places to do it and get away with it. O'Donnell mentions one large park in central Berlin that women were taken to en masse, and things were so grim there that even the SMERSH enforcer units didn't dare go in there.

More telling is the locations of which units during the war came from German sources. Germann sources in some cases have Russian units thousands of miles from where the Russians say they were. This may be due to sheer mendacity, or even worse, sheer stupidity, on the Russian part.
O'Donnell mentions one large park in central Berlin that women were taken to en masse, and things were so grim there that even the SMERSH enforcer units didn't dare go in there.
You'll never convince me of that. SMERSH units were the most feared since NKVD catchment units of 1941-1942. They reported directly to front headquarters, the last coms node before the Russian general staff.
If you read Russian treatment of this time, they admit there were rapes committed by Soviet solders, but they rather convincingly add that the sources of the stories of mass rapes began with Goebbels. They also added that rapes were not committed by front line troops, the shooters, but by rear echelon troops, probably because they has resources to aid civilian German populations. Whether this was forcible rape or drop to your knees in exchange for bread is a subject of speculation.
Even Harrison Salisbury wrote that the troops which were dodging bullets and those which followed on were different in deportment and behavior, which lends credence to the Russian protestations that mass rapes were a myth.

White House Chief of Staff Ron Klain had predicted in 2021 that inflation would be at 2.1 in 2022. That didn’t age well, and showed how clueless the Biden team is. But they indicate that they just want to spend even more.
A reporter asked Biden about a poll showing two-thirds of Democrats don’t want him to run again, and Biden flipped out on the reporter, arguing that wasn’t true. Even CNN busted Biden on this lie.

The Newsome visit to Dr. Jill during the Puppet's absence is pregnant with possibilities and a great inspiration for conspiracy thinking. Remember that just because you are a suspicious paranoid, it doesn't mean it isn't true!
A rereading of the 25th Amendment reveals some interesting clues. Clearly, when the Presidency becomes vacant, whether by death or inability, the Vice President becomes President. What disastrous consequences an unchecked Harris Presidency might create is a different conversation. But regarding the Vice Presidential vacancy, the 25th is clear:
"In response to the second question, regarding vice-presidential vacancies, Section 2 of the Twenty-Fifth Amendment requires the President to nominate a replacement Vice President when that office becomes vacant, subject to confirmation by a majority of both the House and Senate.".
Given the high probability of a Red Wave in November, the demokrats lose a lot of choice in creating a Vice President for the 2024 election, and Harris is an impossible choice to lead the ticket. But here is the secret fig leaf to dump her. The Constitution, as amended, states:
Article II states: “The electors shall meet in their respective states, and vote by ballot for two persons, of whom one at least shall not be an inhabitant of the same state with themselves.”
If Biden is removed from office prior to the installation of a new Congress in January 2025, a simple demokrat majority in both houses will allow a Newsome Vice Presidency, and the party can use the Article II prohibition to dump Kamala pro forma from the 2024 ticket. Additionalky, it sets up the perfect Newsome campaign meme. If she is impeached by a Republican Congress for cause (impossible to imagine she would not be given her performance to date), it creates the storyline that "Republican white supremacy" was the cause of her removal, playing the race care endlessly to drown out the disastrous performance of the Biden-Harris Administration.
What other explanation fits the timing of the visit to Dr. Jill, except the quid pro quo of the move to power and the Newsome promise of protection for the Puppet Show principals after their departure from power?

People are starving in Sri Lanka as a result of idiotic "green" agriculture mandates which are undoing there and soon elsewhere the marvels of Borlaug’s Green Revolution where the use of manufactured fertilizers and crops bred to be disease-resistant were making national famines a thing of the past.
Perhaps because of the seven years he spent living in America during the late 1990s and early 2000s, Mr. Rajapaksa was in thrall to green nostrums. He campaigned for president in 2019 on a platform that promised a form of technocratic utopia, including the commitment to turn Sri Lankan agriculture completely organic in a decade. He was particularly attentive to Vandana Shiva, a rabid Indian opponent of modern scientific agriculture. She considers Borlaug the enemy.
Covid hit Sri Lanka particularly hard, wiping out tourism, its economic mainstay. Heedless of this calamity, and of the wider impoverishment caused by lockdowns, Mr. Rajapaksa took a step that poleaxed Sri Lanka. On April 27, 2021 -- with no warning, and with no attempt to teach farmers how to cope with the change -- he announced a ban on all synthetic fertilizers and pesticides. Food prices soared as a result of scarcity and Sri Lanka’s people, their pockets already hit by the pandemic, began to go hungry. The farmers had no synthetic fertilizer, and hardly any of the organic kind.
The people of Sri Lanka learned a sad lesson -- mandated "organic farming" proved a horrible disaster. The people of Ghana also face starvation and national collapse as a result of green policies (and government corruption). Farmers in the Netherlands are striking in protest of equally unworkable green mandates on agriculture.
Just as absurd is the notion of zero carbon emissions. Germany is rationing conventional fuels and distributing wood and urging householders to burn it. I anticipate that will be insufficient to keep Germans warm this winter. I suppose the nitwits who shut down the country’s nuclear and coal plants will blame climate change for the deaths and misery, but I bet that won’t long work for them.
To prove the stupidity of this blinkered objective, China is fast constructing more coal plants, plants likely (given Communist countries’ penchant for production over environmental concerns) to be emitting not just carbon but the unhealthy emissions which had already been scrubbed from U.S. and western European coal plants.
Not disturbing enough for you? There’s a doddering head of state here and removing him would leave an equally feckless vice president in charge. A man who armed the Taliban in an ill-planned pullout of our troops in Afghanistan. The President leaves in place the head of the FDA who with one stroke could lift the restrictions on baby formula from Canada and Europe to ease the shortage the agency itself foolishly caused by shutting down our major production facility for no good reason.

If after nearly two years, my observations are correct, any "Doddering" or feckless leadership must be ascribed as a cover for the agendas of Rice and Klain. They are the shadow government, the ones who are actually in charge. The first black President has been closely followed by the first black female President. You can say it isn't so, but the cloaking of both Rice and Klain by the media provides a telling confirmation.
The helpless Biden and Harris are little more than Kabuki theater. Real power and authority clearly lies elsewhere.

The styles of Volodymyr and Putin are very different. One begs for everything using medias while Putin scores successes in actual economic growth and support around the world. China might have raw numbers, but I would not trust anything edible produced by China. Their air, water, and soil are as horribly polluted as everything gets under Communist rule, and it isn’t long since the atmospheric dust resulting from desertification and coal plant particulates was reported darkening the sun in Beijing and affecting visibility in California.
