Scumbag arrested in desecration of Marine's grave
The motive was to steal some 25 wire stands that had held the floral arrangements and some other items that could be reused and sold to a floral shop
LIBERTY, TX — A suspect has been arrested in connection with the desecration of the grave here of a 22-year-old hometown hero, a U.S. Marine, who died in Iraq. According to investigators, neither an anti-war activist nor prankster was behind the damage to Lance Corp. Jeremy Burris' grave about 30 miles east of Houston. About 25 floral arrangements, flags and notes were shredded within hours after his burial on Oct. 16.

The motive was to steal some 25 wire stands that had held the floral arrangements and some other items that could be reused and sold to a floral shop. The recycled stands are bought for $1.50 each, authorities said.

Wallace DeBlanc, 41, was arrested at his home on County Road 145 in Liberty about 11 p.m. Wednesday without incident, police said. He is charged with a state jail felony, criminal mischief to a place of human burial.

Police Chief Mike Cummings said the suspect had not known Burris nor intentionally picked on his grave. Details will be released at a press conference at 2 p.m. at Liberty City Hall.

More than a thousand residents of this small town turned out to wave flags and line the streets to show support on the day Burris was buried on Oct. 16. Many were furious when they learned what had happened at the grave site. Burris was killed Oct. 8 by an explosive device in al-Anbar Province. Minutes before his death, he rescued two soldiers wounded when a device exploded under their military vehicle. When Burris returned to the vehicle to retrieve some sensitive equipment, another bomb detonated, killing him, his family said.

#5  #2" "Community service tending the graves perhaps?"

I wouldn't let that worthless bastard within 500 feet of any graveyard, particularly one with military graves.

Stick his sorry ass in jail, and when he gets out, require his "community service" to be cleaning out bedpans at a local nursing home.

Under guard, lest he try to steal the bedpans.

Six illegal immigrants arrested at Qualcomm - stealing donated supplies - to SELL
Six undocumented Mexican immigrants were arrested today by U.S. Border Patrol agents at Qualcomm Stadium, after a report that they were stealing food and water meant for evacuees, according to spokesman Damon Foreman.

San Diego police responded to a call about alleged theft from the evacuation center and encountered six people in a van who didn't speak English and didn't have California driver's licenses, Foreman said. The police officers called the Border Patrol, who arrived at the stadium and made the arrests, he said. Foreman said the immigrants admitted they were Mexican citizens and that they were stealing.

Border Patrol agents are not looking for illegal immigrants at the center but will continue responding to police calls for assistance. "We are not in any means at Qualcomm for enforcement capacity," he said. "We are not there to take advantage of a situation." Foreman said the agents have been helping in the evacuation and rescue effort in addition to carrying out their main duties.

"We are dedicated to our primary mission to securing our borders," he said.
ON NBCSandiego.com it's clarified - they were loading up stuff to sell:
A group of volunteers distributing donated goods at Qualcomm Stadium had to play proctor Wednesday after they noticed the same group of people made three trips, loading up their pickup trucks with goods each time.

"After the second or third time of loading a pickup truck twice and a car, yeah, it's a little suspicious," San Diego police Sgt. Jesus Cesena said. "These items are earmarked for [the victims] to help them out, and when someone takes advantage of them, they're taking advantage of all of us."

The goods, such as clothes, blankets, tents and cots, are easily resold, police said. A volunteer was so upset about the exploitation she began crying, Cesena said.

Police said one of the suspects admit[ted] his intent to sell the items he was taking from the evacuation site.<

#7  A bit OT, but read in ( i think) USAToday that there was a comparison btwn Katrina and the fire evacs; blamed the CA orderliness on wealth. Maybe it was on people not sitting around waiting to be told what to do, but doing it, in a logical way. and maybe the 'wealth' was a symptom; a by-product of education and initative. and Katrina was a known hazard several days out, the fires were not, and still folks just sat around with their fat welfare thumbs up their fat welfare asses. stand by for more hand wringing comparison.
Posted by: USN, Ret. || 10/25/2007 14:56 Comments || Top||

#8  The difference between Katrina and the wildfires are primarily because the citizens in New Orleans waited (as stated) for the government to save them and becuase that government was totally incompetant.

I'm stunned to think they still haven't rebuilt all of New Orleans and that they reelected that tool for Mayor.

#10  If not, why not?

Um...

1. The sheer volume of people displaced to Qualcomm stadium and other environs?

2. A large number of (legal) Hispanics, Filipinos, etc., not to mention green-carders?

3. The priority being to take care of evacuees and maintain order, not only at the evacuation shelters, but throughout the entire county?

4. Perhaps the Border Patrol actually reinforcing the border and the checkpoints because the coyotes and individual jumpers might try to take advantage of the chaos?

Today's Idiot
CANBERRA (Reuters) - An Australian barmaid has been fined for crushing beer cans between her bare breasts while an off-duty colleague has been fined for hanging spoons from her friend's nipples, police said Wednesday.
Holy smoke!
Police in Western Australia said the 31-year old barmaid pleaded guilty in the local magistrate's court to twice exposing her breasts to patrons at the Premier Hotel in Pinjarra, south of the state capital, Perth.
I want her name...
The woman "is alleged to have also crushed beer cans between her breasts during one of the offences," in breach of hotel licensing laws, police from the Peel district of Western Australia said in a statement.
...and her address.
I honestly don't know how that's physiologically possible. They're mammaries, not muscles.
The barmaid and the hotel manager were both fined A$1,000 ($900), while an off-duty barmaid was fined A$500 for helping to hang spoons from the woman's nipples, police said.
Prudes.
"It sends a clear message to all licensees in Peel that we will not tolerate this type of behavior in our licensed premises," local police superintendent David Parkinson said.
Drat- no pictures.

Happy St. Crispin's Day!
This story shall the good man teach his son;
And Crispin Crispian shall ne'er go by,
From this day to the ending of the world,
But we in it shall be remembered-
We few, we happy few, we band of brothers;
For he to-day that sheds his blood with me
Shall be my brother; be he ne'er so vile,
This day shall gentle his condition;
And gentlemen in England now-a-bed
Shall think themselves accurs'd they were not here,
And hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks
That fought with us upon Saint Crispin's day.

#1  Both the Sir Lawrence Olivier and Kenneth Branagh version are top notch. Branagh was reportedly scared to death, because Henry V was regarded as Olivier's second best Shakespeare performance after Richard III.
Posted by: Anonymoose || 10/25/2007 17:09 Comments || Top||

#2  Branagh's Henry V is sheer genius, unafraid to portray a Christian King in a Christian age. Olivier's is a 'Public School' version.

#3  When I saw Branagh give that speech, it transfixed me and gave me goosebumps all over.

Wow.

Don't remember if I ever saw Olivier do it, but it couldn't have been as inspiring. (Olivier was an excellent actor, but he was too poncey for this.)

#5  Please remember that Olivier's version was made in 1943 on just a tiny budget. The chain mail was made of knitted wool, because of metal shortage.

Remember also that it was wildly successful in raising British morale during a critical part of the war. It was no surprise that he was knighted in 1947.

#6  And, it's the anniversary of three of the greatest battles of all time:

  1. The Battle of Agincourt, 1415

  2. The Battle off Samar, part of the Battle of Leyte Gulf, 1944

  3. Game 6, 1975 World Series. As Roger Angell wrote in Agincourt and After, “Game Six, Game Six … what can we say of it without seeming to diminish it by recapitulation or dull it with detail? Those of us who were there will remember it, surely, as long as we have any baseball memory, and those who wanted to be there and were not will be sorry always. Crispin Crispian: for Red Sox fans, this was Agincourt.”

Afghanistan
The world's most dangerous golf tournament
As course hazards go, the threat of a suicide bomb attack places the Kabul Golf Course in a class of its own. Four suicide attacks in the Afghan capital in three weeks, the last of which killed 12 people on the road to the clubhouse, ensured that the latest Kabul Desert Classic could safely claim to be the most dangerous golf tournament on earth. The open competition, on Afghanistan's only course, was begun in 2005 by aid workers. Funds raised went to an Afghan charity set up by the veteran ITN journalist Sandy Gall.

The fairways of St Andrews are but a distant dream on a scrub covered course where the greens are a grassless mixture of sand and oil, and a bouncing tee shot sends up puffs of dust like a raking burst of machinegun fire. Some of those present suggested that the 3rd Desert Classic might be the last.

"It all depends on our foreign friends," said the club’s leathery pro Mohammad Afzal Abdul, 50, a scratch player who has worked the course since the 1970s. "If they stay things could improve. If they leave it to the Afghans, everything will collapse again." Mr Abdul was arrested for two months and beaten with cables after the Taliban found his collection of golf trophies and accused him of working with foreigners.

The event went ahead on Friday with a security cordon provided by a local warlord; a figure described by one Kabul diplomat as "a hard-drinking human rights abuser who should be in The Hague, not on a golf course."

The nine-hole course was opened in 1967 and enjoyed its heyday in the early 1970s when Kabul was a tranquil way station on the hippie trail. However, the Russian invasion ended the flow of international visitors and it was only the Russian Ambassador who ventured onto the course during the 1980s, playing off a handicap of 24. During the bloody civil war of the 1990s the area witnessed frequent tank battles.

Most of the 30 competitors were drawn from the aid worker community, though the event organisers, American Lawyer John Dempsey, 37 and French media relations company boss Amaury Coste, 34, were delighted to see the first Afghan entrants.

The winners were two Afghan eighteen-year-olds with less than a year’s golfing experience each. Hashmatullah and Ali, both of whom have only one name, are among the first Afghans to take an interest in the sport and receive daily lessons from the course pro in exchange for a spot of gardening.

"I started six months ago and have played every day since," said Hashmatullah, beaming with pride after an impressive 4-under-par round. He hopes to compete for Afghanistan in the Asian Games in Nepal next year if the Afghan government is able to fund a team.

Arabia
HIV Infection: Dubai Men Charged With Raping Expatriate Swiss Boy
Two Emirati men were charged yesterday at the Dubai Criminal Courts with raping a 15-year-old Franco-Swiss boy who was visiting the country last July.

Defendants Ebrahim K., 18 and Abu Bakr K., 35, denied rape and associated charges of deception, kidnapping and making threats. The first defendant is accused of deceiving the 15-year-old by offering him a lift from the Beach Centre in Jumeirah to his home on July 14. He allegedly led the boy to a car where the second defendant and a third suspect were present, and drove to the desert where the boy was sodomised.

In his testimony to the public prosecution the boy said he was sexually assaulted by the men and left by the side of the road.

According to Yannick Van Der Schueren, reporter for the Swiss 24 Heures newspaper, the boy is currently recovering in Switzerland from his ordeal. His mother, Véronique Robert, a Paris-based freelance journalist, has asked for assistance and intervention from the French government. Forensic tests prove that the boy was sodomised but, according to the mother, the medical examiner said the act was not forced.
How exactly does the ME know that?
She wants more tests performed, according to Van Der Shueren.

Later tests proved one of the defendants is HIV positive and is suffering from hepatitis C. The boy and his family are currently in Switzerland awaiting test results to show if he has contracted HIV or hepatitis.

Dubai’s Attorney General said in a press statement that the Public Prosecution will endeavour to inflict the maximum punishment on the offenders if they are found guilty.

#3  Unlike Africa, the MME (Muslim Middle East) represents a far more significant intersection of homosexuality, denial, sexual assault and cognitive dissonance. The convergence of these four exceptionally deleterious factors becomes incredibly lethal once AIDS is factored into the equation. I wonder how long it will take for AIDS to spread throughout the MME? I see few, if any, reasons why it should not be equally devastating to both regions.

#5  Homosexuality is rampant in all Muslim majority countries. Given that unmarried women are unapproachable, except by permission of parents, sexual frustration is inevitable. Islam is an abomination, and Muslims are carriers of an ideological disease.

#6  The boy's mother has a French name. What of the father? It may be that the boy had reason to be in Dubai beyond tourism.
Posted by: trailing wife || 10/25/2007 15:16 Comments || Top||

#7  The boy's first name is Alex, I believe it's very unlikely the father is from dubai or an another arab country.
Posted by: anonymous5089 || 10/25/2007 15:42 Comments || Top||

#8  And the "fun" part is there's no charges in the dubai law system for homosexual rape, only "forced homosexuality", which could get the rapists 1 year if I understood the swiss articles correctly, plus the kidnapping.

Also, the authorities affirmed the boy was consenting, despite the heavy criminal record of the trio (including other rapes, theft, assault), and claimed he showed clinical signs of being a regular passive homosexual; hence, he could face jail time too, wasn't he in Switzerland.
Of course, this is a travesty, that's why the mother clamors for more tests, and action from the french governement to have dubai take this seriously.
And the hepatis and aids are a nice touch : those guys most probably were contaminated by bulgarian nurses, there can't be any possible way for such diseases to be gfound in th epure muslim lands.

Breast cancer is a taboo in Gulf
This was a story in the free Boston Metro paper. However Abcnews.com had more information. I found this story rather sad considering we live in the 21st century and yet, there are individuals who still live in 7th century when it comes to womens health. More Arab Women Speaking Out About Breast Cancer

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia. Breast cancer is considered a taboo in the religiously conservative Arab countries of the Persian Gulf, but some women are pushing for greater openness about the illness. Their efforts received a boost this week from first lady Laura Bush, who met with breast cancer survivors in Jidda.

Same thing. My own mother's a survivor. I'm currently writing a book and movie plot line about this exact same subject. It will trace an object half-way around the world and through several centuries as it finally serves the cause of how repressed cultures inadequately deal with and treat their ailing women.

Western medicine's male-dominated treatment structure is bad enough. Add into it the Third World's abominable misogyny and things all go straight to hell in a handbasket.

Anyone who is interested in fighting under-reporting of Asian female cancers can feel free to contact me about my script. It will highlight this ill-mentioned disaster for once and all.
