Brave Jihadi Wannabes learn not to mess with rabbi
Brooklyn, 2008...
March 20, 2008 -- An assistant rabbi whose yarmulke was swiped by Arab men turned the tables on his tormentors, chasing one into a Brooklyn street where the thief was struck by a car and arrested, police said yesterday.

Uria Ohana, 25, a member of the Chabad Lubavitch movement, told The Post he entered a subway station alone at Fourth Avenue and Ninth Street in Park Slope at 6:20 p.m. Tuesday. Ohana said he went through a turnstile and spotted a group of young Arabic men sitting on a bench. "I wasn't afraid of anything. I didn't think anything would happen," he said.

But something did. Ohana said he felt a hand grab his brown yarmulke off his head. He then spun around and came face to face with one of the men, Ali Hussein, 18, police said. "There were no words exchanged. I decided to chase him to get my yarmulke back," Ohana said.

Hussein's friends joined in the foot pursuit, screaming "Allah-hu Akbar," which means "God is great."

They ran outside and Hussein darted into the street, where he was hit by a blue Volvo and toppled to the ground, cops said. "He couldn't move. He broke his leg. He was crying," said Ohana.
I'da been laughing my ass off. Looks like Allah don't think you're so akbar, douchebag.
Hussein's friends then jumped into a suburban GMC and sped away.
Good luck, Ali! Allah-hu Akbar! We'll be running away now!!
Showing their support of their friend from, oh, five miles away.
Police arrested Hussein for alleged aggravated harassment as a hate crime.
Yeah, let's see what happens to this kid...
Allan already broke his leg as punishment for his crime.

Seriously, a Volvo? Come on, that has to be an act of God there.

#5  "he was hit by a blue Volvo "
and when you stop to realize that Ford owns a majority stake in Volvo and FoMoCo world headquarters is in Dearborn ( like right next to Detroit), muzzie central it becomes even sweeter... kind of like blue on blue.

#7  Poor Ali Hussein is not going to have it easy in prison, I suspect. This reminds me of the verse in the Alice's Restaurant song where he was on the Group W bench, and when he told the murderers and father-rapers that he was there for littering, they all moved away from him. How pathetic is it to try to snatch a hat from one of the curly sidelock crew, only to be caught because you tripped over a car and broke your leg?

#8  TW,

An 18 year old? They'll all come back...and probably be a WHOLE LOT closer to Ali than he'd prefer. I suspect he'll be rather "intimate" with more than a few of his fellow inmates.

#10  No one spends a decade in Rikers; that prison is used for pre-trial confinement and sentences of < 1 year, if I remember correctly. For longer sentences, you go up the river.

And I thought the Satmar Hasidim were the physical ones. Anyhow, I'm guessing that the kid will be protected by his religious compatriots.

The new NY gov, the former Olympix babe, and the tape recorder...
An attractive Olympic gold-medalist says she had a close personal relationship with Gov. Paterson earlier this year - during which time she recorded a series of secret telephone conversations with him. Track-and-field athlete Diane Dixon, of Brooklyn, also told The Post that she had received a private message yesterday morning from Paterson, asking if she was speaking with the media.

Dixon, 43, said Paterson, 53, was "mostly responsible" for getting her a badly needed job earlier this month with the city Department of Education in Crown Heights' District 17. The job pays in the range of $48,000 to $65,000 a year, records show. "I'm a single mom with a child. I need this job," said Dixon, who grew up on Carroll Street in Crown Heights and won medals in the 4x400-meter relay at the 1984 games in Los Angeles and the 1988 Olympics in Seoul.

Paterson, a Democrat who was sworn in on Monday, admitted yesterday to having had several extramarital affairs, but contended they all ended years ago. He was informed by The Post in the morning that at least one news organization had been notified he had recently been involved with a woman from Brooklyn. Paterson denied the claim. But a few hours later, Dixon called The Post to say she had received a message from Paterson inquiring about whether she was talking to the press.

Just the "accepted" black way of doing things, you know. Talk about jumping out of the fryin' pan into the fire. But we should be understanding and accepting of the culture so as to not upset any "feelings". Just ask Barry, he just notified us of the same in his flowery, preaching, pedantic manner.

#5  Well, here's one guy who seems to think all this is a bigger deal then most people. From the Post...

March 20, 2008 -- Some advice to Gov. Paterson about the burly husband of your former lover: Stay away!

That's what several sources who know Randy Loyd, the insurance executive married to former Paterson lover Lila Kirton, told The Post yesterday as they mulled over the new governor's stunning admission that he had a string of affairs with "a number of" women. One of those ladies was identified by sources as Kirton, a longtime state employee.

Loyd's "a big guy who understandably is going to be very unhappy about this," said a source close to the Kirton family. "My advice to Gov. Paterson: Don't go anywhere near Lila's husband," the source continued.

This story could get even better...

Stalemate in Detroit: City Council Asks Mayor to Resign, but He Refuses to Go
The City Council on Tuesday asked Mayor Kwame M. Kilpatrick to resign in light of evidence that he had lied under oath and plotted to cover up an extramarital affair with his former chief of staff.

The 7-to-1 Council vote is not binding, and Mr. Kilpatrick has vowed to remain in office. Nonetheless, the Council’s action is a political blow for the mayor, and support for the measure was greater than expected. Council members spoke highly of Mr. Kilpatrick but said he could no longer govern effectively, given the scandal that has enveloped Detroit for nearly two months. “It is a vote of no confidence in the mayor’s ability to move the city forward at this time,” said Councilwoman Sheila M. Cockrel, who drafted some of the 33 reasons listed in the resolution for the mayor to step down. “It is a tragedy — an enormous talent that has been squandered.”

The mayor’s spokeswoman, Denise Tolliver, reiterated Mr. Kilpatrick’s determination to remain in office. “While certain members have been playing judge and jury in the court of public opinion, Mayor Kilpatrick has continued to stay focused on advancing bold initiatives, such as his economic stimulus package,” she said in a statement. “As Mayor Kilpatrick has said before, he will stay in office, he will stay focused on city business, and he will continue to lead our city forward.”

The vote came a week after the mayor’s annual State of the City speech, in which he angrily blamed racism for his troubles and accused the news media of having a “lynch-mob mentality” against him. “The mayor’s lack of discipline last Tuesday was the straw that broke the camel’s back,” Councilwoman Cockrel said.

The only Council member to vote against the resolution was Monica Conyers, the wife of Representative John Conyers Jr., a Michigan Democrat; Ms. Conyers said the Council should have waited until it had more information before voting on such a statement. “I’m being neutral,” Ms. Conyers said. “I’m concerned with doing it the right way, based upon facts, and not doing a symbolic resolution that means nothing.”

The Council’s ninth member, Martha Reeves, the former Motown singer who had said she supported the resolution, was absent because of illness.
Gosh. I sure hope the Vandellas are okay.
She had nowhere to run, nowhere to hide ...

A higher percentage of people left Wayne County than any other large county in the nation last year, according to Census Bureau estimates released today...Experts say that if it wasn't for the sluggish housing market tying many would-be-sellers to their homes, the outward tide might have been greater.

#6  I shall name my first born son Kwame M. Kilpatrick

If you want to really inspire, name him Mayor Coleman Young. He made a fine 20 year career playing racial identity politics pitting Detroit against the rest of the state with the predictable results you see there today.

Reading about Kwame's shenanigans the last week, I found myself thinking that one day, perhaps, Detroit will get the mayor it deserves. But then again, maybe it already has.

He was as corrupt as the rest of the Cleveland political machine, but he had the smarts not to get greedy about it. The real problem was the Cleveland School Board, which made Detroit look as if it was run by Jesuits.

#19  Dennis Archer seemed like a decent guy. I wasn't living in Michigan at the time, but got that impression from reading the papers while visiting the folks. That decency and his attempts to reunite the city and the suburbs set him against the Mayor Young crowd who had thrived on racial polarization. Pity he didn't last longer.

Happy Extraterrestrial Abductions Day, Earth Creatures!
Extraterrestrial Abductions Day is today. Keep one eye on the sky. And, be ready to duck, dodge, and to hide. UFO's may be everywhere, looking to abduct humans. If you are not careful, perhaps they will find you! Of course, there are more than a few people out there who are looking to be abducted by aliens, so they can travel to another planet.

Celebrate today by reading and watching science fiction stories about UFOs and Extraterrestrials. And, make sure to keep out of sight of extraterrestrials.

'Speak English' Signs OK at Philly Shop
PHILADELPHIA (AP) - The owner of a famous cheesesteak shop did not discriminate when he posted signs asking customers to speak English, a city panel ruled Wednesday. In a 2-1 vote, a Commission on Human Relations panel found that two signs at Geno's Steaks telling customers, "This is America: WHEN ORDERING 'PLEASE SPEAK ENGLISH,'" do not violate the city's Fair Practices Ordinance.

Shop owner Joe Vento has said he posted the signs in October 2005 because of concerns over immigration reform and an increasing number of people in the area who could not order in English. Vento has said he never refused service to anyone because they couldn't speak English. But critics argued that the signs discourage customers of certain backgrounds from eating at the shop.
So he loses their business if people have a problem with the signs. He seems to be willing to take that economic hit.
Commissioners Roxanne E. Covington and Burt Siegel voted to dismiss the complaint, finding that the sign does not communicate that business will be "refused, withheld or denied."

In a dissenting opinion, Commissioner Joseph J. Centeno said he thought the signs did discourage some customers. "The sign appeared immediately above another sign that had the following words: 'Management Reserves the Right to Refuse Service,'" Centeno wrote.
So move the sign...
Geno's and its chief rival across the street, Pat's King of Steaks, are two of the city's best known cheesesteak venues. A growing number of Asian and Latin American immigrants have moved into the traditionally Italian neighborhood in recent years.

Vento had threatened to go to court if he lost. His attorney, Albert G. Weiss, said he was "pleasantly surprised" by Wednesday's decision. "We expected that this was not going to go our way," Weiss said.
Neither did anybody else in PC Nation.
In February 2007, the commission found probable cause against Geno's for discrimination, alleging that the policy discourages customers of certain backgrounds from eating there. The case went to a public hearing, where an attorney for the commission argued that the sign was about intimidation, not political speech. The matter then went to the three-member panel for a ruling. W. Nick Taliaferro, the commission's executive director, said he would not appeal.

#2  Now, can we do something about the ATMs that make you press "1" for English?

#3  I'm still amazed that our ATM card has our bank information on it but they can't squeeze in a language preference to avoid annoying customers every single time they deal with the ATM.

#4  fair practice ordinance? what kind of pc crap is that....private business = should be able to run his business how he wants and take the economic consequences/benefits there of.

#5  Fully agree... Nothing wrong with having what is considered a default language. Everyone should be free to speak what ever they want but they should respect the pragmatic need for ONE default language. China as an example has one default language and it work really well. As a Canadian I can attest to the major problems having 2 official languages... After you grant a second official language, every other culture wants to be the third and forth, and fifth ect. and it gets ridiculous having multiple languages plastered on every road sign and cereal box...Its a slippery cliff...

#6  If the ATMs offered a Dutch option I'd press for that, if only for the bit of practice of a language I didn't live long enough within. Hoe gat het, y'all? ;-)

Functionally, though, even the Canadians are much better off than the Europeans. I remember when Mr. Wife was involved in opening up the Eastern European markets after the Wall came down, and they had to add usage directions on the package in the languages of the newly added countries. One needs the eyes of an eagle to read it now -- English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, the three Scandanavian languages... and then Czech, Polish and Hungarian. Separately, I believe the Chinese have one written language, but speakers of most languages and dialects cannot understand one another (my Cantonese- and Mandarin-speaking friends talk in English as the only path to understanding). Arabic is like that, too, Mr. Wife has told me. The written language is constant across the Ummah, but when read aloud the words are completely different in different countries. That's why the Koran must be learnt in the oral language of Arabia... beyond the traditional lack of literacy in Muslim societies. (Mr. Wife learnt Arabic when he spent almost a year starting up a factory in Egypt, underwent formal training with a Palestinian teacher here, worked in Morocco, then shocked his native colleagues in India by reading the Urdu shop signs... written in the Arabic alphabet. All with an adorably ineradicable American accent.)
