These projectiles in the conditions of the Ukrainian conflict will be dangerous for manpower, since they are equipped with a programmable fuse and can provide detonation on the trajectory with subsequent hitting the target both from below the projectile (shrapnel the projectile itself and high-explosive impact), and in the direction of flight of the projectile with a beam of ready-made submunitions (shrapnel)"- said the expert.
The tanks available to European countries were produced at different times and differ greatly depending on the modification. The most modern Leopard 2A7 models are only available to the Bundeswehr, and in very small quantities. So it is extremely unlikely that they will be transferred to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The most massive modifications are Leopard 2A4 and 2A5. So deliveries can be made using machines of this model, which are in service with Finland, Poland, Norway, Germany, Denmark, Portugal, Spain and Greece.
Modifications differ significantly in their "stuffing": the presence of modern equipment, including fire controls. But, according to Alexander Mikhailovsky, tanks of the Leopard 2 family have one common advantage, which is extremely important when conducting a maneuvering battle.
"If we are talking about the battle of two tanks, then in the context of Ukraine, two circumstances matter: maneuverability and maneuverability. As the experience of recent battles shows, the one who moves faster survives. If you delay with this, then the enemy will have time to direct artillery. The modern transmission allows the Leopard 2A4 to reach speeds of 75 km/h.

However, with all the advantages, German-made armored vehicles were predicted to have a short life in the conditions of the war in Ukraine. The only experience of using Leopard 2A4 tanks in the conditions of modern military operations showed their vulnerability to manual anti-tank weapons.
We are talking about the tanks of the Turkish army, used during the battles for the city of Al-Bab in northern Syria. Then at least three tanks were destroyed by militants with only hand weapons.
"In a word, Leopard 2, even in the A4 modification, is good for its time, but with the modern saturation of the battlefield with anti-tank weapons, survivability drops dramatically. I don’t presume to name the exact timings, but it’s obvious that when they get to the front, these cars, with all the pluses described above, will not live long," the expert sums up.

O please. The Turkisk models were the older unmodified ones. The Candians brought over the A4 and the A6 Can to Afganistan with no losses and the Taliban had lots of anti tank munitions. [NYPOST] Russian forces have incurred "significantly well over 100,000" casualties and endured "a huge amount" of suffering since Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine began nearly 11 months ago, the top US general said Friday.
"The numbers of casualties in war are always suspect," Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Mark Milley told news hounds in Germany. "But I would tell you that the Russian casualties, the last time I reported out publicly [in November] I said it was well over 100,000. I would say it’s significantly well over 100,000 now."
Milley did not estimate Ukraine’s military losses, but in November he suggested that Ukraine had lost roughly the same amount of forces as Russia.
On Tuesday, Ukraine’s armed forces released a tally stating that 116,950 Russian troops had been "eliminated." If true, that would mean more Russian forces have died in combat in Ukraine than the number of American forces who died of all causes during World War I.
Milley also predicted Friday that Europe’s largest conflict since the Second World War would end in mediation as both sides struggle to come to grips with manpower losses.
"This is a very, very bloody war, and there’s significant casualties on both sides," he said. "This is why I say that I think that sooner or later this is going to have to get to the negotiating table at some point in order to bring this to a conclusion."

[Strategy Page] The Russian government increased the legal maximum number of its active-duty military personnel from 1,013,628 to 1,150,628 personnel. It is unlikely that this number will ever be reached. Right now that means the heavy Russian losses since the invasion began, and failure to mobilize many replacements, reduced the army to about 250,000 personnel.
Mobilizations of new conscripts and men who had served the one year of conscript service failed to replace all the losses, in part because the mobilized men knew that the war in Ukraine was not going well and most men sent there had little training, equipment or leadership. Most of the junior officers were killed or disabled during the first months of the war and replacements take months to train.
Ukraine had 250,000 active-duty troops in early 2022 and within months had half a million more in form of volunteers and conscripts. Normally Ukrainian troops receive a lot more training than their Russian counterparts but in the first months of the war planet of untrained Ukrainians were used to halt the invasion. Since then, Ukrainian troops get more training and are led by officers and NCOs in combat. Ukrainian troops don’t suffer from supply shortages and suffer relatively few casualties than the Russians.

The US Ambassador to the OSCE has confirmed that Washington would agree to the idea of partners to transfer American-made F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine
This is stated in an interview with Michael Carpenter for Delfi.
"We have long believed that what our allies supply is their business. And we support the countless contributions that our allies have made to Ukraine... And so I expect there will be broad support in the United States for our allies to continue to increase their contributions," the US Ambassador to the OSCE said.
When asked if the above statement was about F-16 fighters, the ambassador confirmed.
As a reminder, the Dutch Cabinet of Ministers will consider supplying Ukraine with F-16 fighter jets and paying for Leopard 2 tanks.

It’s believed they will be used on the frontline to hide the true scale of deaths among the mobilised troops.

[MoonOfAlabama] Ukraine - Russian Army Activates Southern Front
The long expected Russian offensive in Ukraine has begun.
The Ukrainian army, egged on by its U.S. controllers, had put most of its resource into the static defense of the Bakhmut (Artyomovsk) - Soledar sector of the eastern front. An insane number of Ukrainian brigades, though many partially depleted, were concentrated on that 50 kilometer long front. This left other sectors nearly empty of Ukrainian troops.
On the southern and northern sectors of the battle-line the Ukrainian forces have been thinned out and are only able to defend against minor forces.
The Ukrainian forces in the north and south are in the same position Russian troops had been in when the Ukrainian army last year launched a blitz attack in the Kharkiv region. The Russian screening force of some 2,000 boarder guards and federal police retreated and used its artillery to destroy the oncoming Ukrainian forces. The attack ran out of power and came to a halt after progressing some 70 kilometers on a rather large front. But Ukraine no longer has, unlike the Russians at that time, the artillery that is need to stop a larger thrust.
The big Ukrainian concentration in Bakhmut is now in an operational encirclement. The Russian forces have progressed north and south of the city and their artillery can easily control the western exit roads of Bakhmut. This a Verdun like situation. Russian artillery is by far numerical superior and can slaughter the Ukrainian troops at will. Even the U.S. military is now suggesting that Ukraine should give up on that city. Should the government in Kiev agree to that it will be a retreat under fire with likely high casualties. Not retreating though will make things even worse.

Below the snip shown - the Ukrainians have 3 Territorial Defense brigades covering a 100 click front with no artillery brigade in sector and thus minimal counter battery fire options. Nil mobile armor reserve. The 56th Mech brigade reinforced 6 days ago but equipped with a smogasbord of western equipment with commensurate resupply / repair issues. Russian forces seem to be the 58th Army - full TO&E - not Wagner, Chechen or Donbas militia. Per the title - beaucoup disinformation in this affray so stand by for further developments

^ Yes, best way to attrit the stock is to make sure it's in place to be destroyed. That's the only way to be sure even more will be needed.

So far minimal gains and suicidal tactics. Attacked on a front of 6 villages. All repulsed. Russians did occupy 1 or 2 abandoned villages in no man's land, under crossfire from higher Ukr positions.

Russian forces have been attacking Bakhmut since early summer 2022.
Probably >20k Russians have already died trying to gain this, mostly abandoned (2020 pop was about 70k) city.
The strategic value isn't much but it is the site of one of Russia's humiliating losses back in 2014 when Ukrainians pushed separatists and Russian out of it after the latter had taken it in a surprise attack a month or so earlier.
