Solyndra: Energy Dept. pushed firm to keep layoffs quiet until after midterms
The Obama administration urged officers of the struggling solar company Solyndra to postpone announcing planned layoffs until after the November 2010 midterm elections, newly released e-mails show.

Solyndra, the now-shuttered California company, had been a poster child of President Obama's initiative to invest in clean energies and received the administration's first energy loan of $535 million. But a year ago, in October 2010, the solar panel manufacturer was quickly running out of money and had warned the Energy Department it would need emergency cash to avoid having to shut down.

The new e-mails about the layoff announcement were released Tuesday morning as part of a House Energy and Commerce committee memo, provided in advance of Energy Secretary Steven Chu's scheduled testimony before the investigative committee Thursday.

Solyndra's chief executive warned the Energy Department on Oct. 25, 2010, that he intended to announce worker layoffs Oct. 28. He said he was spurred by numerous calls from reporters and potential investors about rumors the firm was in financial trouble and was planning to lay off workers and close one of its two plants.

But in an Oct. 30, 2010, e-mail, advisers to Solyndra's primary investor, Argonaut Equity, explain that the Energy Department had strongly urged the company to put off the layoff announcement until Nov. 3. The midterm elections were held Nov. 2, and led to Republicans taking control of the U.S. House of Representatives.

"DOE continues to be cooperative and have indicated that they will fund the November draw on our loan (app. $40 million) but have not committed to December yet," a Solyndra investor adviser wrote Oct. 30. "They did push very hard for us to hold our announcement of the consolidation to employees and vendors to Nov. 3rd -- oddly they didn't give a reason for that date."
So... what did Obama know and when did he know it and when did he greenlight it? Guy is corrupt and crass as any politician can get.

Kagan to Tribe on Day Obamacare Passed: ‘I Hear They Have the Votes, Larry!! Simply Amazing.
On Sunday, March 21, 2010, the day the House of Representatives passed President Barack Obama’s Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, then-Solicitor General Elena Kagan and famed Supreme Court litigator and Harvard Law Prof. Laurence Tribe, who was then serving in the Justice Department, had an email exchange in which they discussed the pending health-care vote, according to documents the Department of Justice released late Wednesday to the Media Research Center, CNSNews.com's parent organization, and to Judicial Watch.

“I hear they have the votes, Larry!! Simply amazing,” Kagan said to Tribe in one of the emails.

The Justice Department released a new batch of emails on Wednesday evening as its latest response to Freedom of Information Act requests filed by CNSNews.com and Judicial Watch. Both organizations filed federal lawsuits against DOJ after the department did not initially respond to the requests. CNSNews.com originally filed its FOIA request on May 25, 2010--before Elena Kagan's June 2010 Supreme Court confirmation hearings.

The March 2010 email exchange between Kagan and Tribe raises new questions about whether Kagan must recuse herself from judging cases involving the health-care law that Obama signed--and which became the target of legal challenges--while Kagan was serving as Obama's solicitor general and was responsible for defending his administration’s positions in court disputes.

According to 28 USC 455, a Supreme Court justice must recuse from “any proceeding in which his impartiality might reasonably be questioned.” The law also says a justice must recuse anytime he has “expressed an opinion concerning the merits of the particular case in controversy” while he “served in governmental employment.”

#1  She must recuse or she should be impeached. The law is clear.

#2  Notice that Clarice Thomas does not fit the given requirements since he did not express an opinion about it. His wife, exercising her own 1st amendment rights, did - but he did not.

#3  Kagan is simply the most awful Supreme Court Justice we have ever had. She knows absolutely nothing about the Constitution.

She is a hack.

#4  I IMO Kagan is dirty in this but I doubt it will be proven. Most of the conversations she had about Obamascare likely occurred off the record.

#5  "I hear they have the votes, Larry!! Simply amazing,"

I wonder if this can be construed as an opinion re health care and meets the requirements of the law requiring recusal?

#6  What is just as alarming is that two SES federal employees would have the horrifically bad judgment to not only make such statements in writing, but also to make them using US government computer systems, which everyone at that level knows damn well is subject to FOIA.

It's ten times worse that they are lawyers, who are required to always protect confidential and privileged communications. If these bozos aren't stopping to ask "would I paint this in neon-green 6" block letters on the side of my car?" before they hit send, they're asleep at the wheel.

Which is, in part why I'd say, meh, either way. As an ethical matter, of course Kagan should recuse herself. But she's never struck me as a hard-line ideologue, like Ginsburg, but more just naive and vapid. And utterly shocked and star-struck to be where she is. Frankly, I suspect the coercive, mandatory stuff - a government compulsion to do X, under pain of punishment - is going to bother her.

Bush 41 surely screwed up (Souter) and so did Reagan (Sandra Day O'Connor). No reason BHO shouldn't wind up with similar regrets about Kagan.

Just my $0.02.

Obama's golf buddy nailed in hooker sting
One of President Obama's partners on the golf course in Honolulu on Monday afternoon was a longtime friend who was arrested earlier this year for soliciting prostitution.

In April, Obama's high school classmate Bobby Titcomb was one of four men arrested as part of an undercover prostitution sting. The White House had no comment after the arrest and did not have an immediate comment on the president's game with Titcomb.

Titcomb and Obama attended the Punahou School together, have been friends for decades and are frequent golf partners. Before Monday, the two last golfed together during the president's 2010 Christmas vacation. The Obamas regularly attend hours-long parties at Titcomb's home.

#1  Too rich. Speaks to the POTUS's baseline morals and ethics. Guilt by association? Nah, Tit was probably the one who came up short in the deal.

#3  So the liberal media crucifies Herman Cain for something that has not been proven and probably didn't happen. Clinton is hailed by the left as a the WH hero despite the blue dress episode and all the previous baggage from Arkansas. Obama gets a pass despite hanging out with a guy who gets nailed in prostitution sting. He sits in a church for 20 years with Rev. Wright who curses America and various groups but says I was only present--I didn't know what was going on. He says he hung out with just a guy in the neighborhood--Bill Ayers who bombed government buildings and banks. Talk about double standards in the liberal media. Their press cards ought to be revoked for impersonating reporters.

CNN WH Correspondent Asks Obama if GOP Candidates Are 'Uninformed, Out of Touch, or Irresponsible'
Remember during 2008's Democratic primaries when Saturday Night Live did a hilarious sketch mocking a CNN debate as being a disgraceful suck-up to then presidential candidate Barack Obama?

A repeat of this happened in real life Sunday evening when during a press conference from the APEC summit in Hawaii, CNN White House correspondent Dan Lothian actually asked the President if the GOP candidates were "uninformed, out of touch, or irresponsible."

After thinking a second -- probably wondering how fortunate he is to have such an unapologetic shill in the audience -- Obama responded, "That's a multiple choice question, isn't it?"

#1  THEY-ALL-WANT-WAR-WITH-IRAN ...

versus

* CHINESE MILITARY FORUM > [NYT = Paul V. Kane]US PUNDIT:TRADE TAIWAN FOR US$1.0TRILYUHN | TO SAVE OUR ECONOMY, DITCH TAIWAN, given that China controls so much of our sovereign debt.

GUAM?, since as per STARS-N-STRIPES + MARINE CORPS TIMES Beijing considers the Marianas as one of the island chains that is an extension of its mainland = natural continental shelf.

STATE OF HAWAII?, since China Bloggers argue that Chinese explorers discovered Hawaii long before British Captain Cook, hence is actually Chinese territory; + moreso given that the "weak/declining US" can no longer reliably defend the isles from China's LR Second Artillery andor offshore PLAN Boomer subs.

Lest we fergit, UP TO 1/2 OF CONUS-NORAM?, because China + its growing population need the "living space"???

#6  Honestly, these sorts of things don't bother me anymore, since I automatically assume all reporters are soulless sub human vermin, liars, traitors and fit only to be used as mulch or nailed to tress.

Heck, lawyers are more human than they are and that is saying something.
