Canada to send ethical oil to China
Prime Minister Stephen Harper told U.S. President Barack Obama at the APEC summit on Sunday that Canada will look for new markets in Asia for its oil and gas, now that the Keystone pipeline has been delayed for more than a year.

Harper made Canada's disappointment in the delay clear when the two leaders sat down for almost 30 minutes at the summit in Hawaii.

All of Canada's oil and gas exports currently go south of the border, and Keystone would transport crude from the oilsands to Texas. Now, however, Harper says the U.S. decision has left him no choice.

"I did indicate to him, as I did to the president of China yesterday [Saturday], as our government has indicated, this highlights why Canada must increase its efforts to make sure it can supply its energy outside of the United States and into Asia in particular," Harper said.

To that end, the prime minister will visit China sometime next year.

#1  Well done, Obean. And I'm not supposed to notice that you did it on purpose, right?

#2  Good on the Canadians.

Hope they make a lot of money.

At one time it was suggested that eventually Canada's western provinces would join the US. I now think that many western states will end up joining Canada.

#3  The west coast of North America could well end up joining China. That's been a possibility since about, say, 1450.

#4  Such a no-brainer the only consideration is on-purpose. Best of luck Canada, perhaps we can talk again in a year without this poor-betty headmaster.

#6  Oh, yeah, it's much better to continue funding those whackjobs in the ME than get oil from next door. Bah and double bah.

#7  That's the problem SteveS - to OBumbles it *is* better to fund America's enemies over her allies.

#10  Build a pipeline to Thunder Bay. From there, you can export it to Europe (they'll be GLAD to buy it, instead of Russian oil and gas), the eastern US, or down the Mississippi to New Orleans and the Gulf. It would also be a finger to O'Bumble, but not the US. Of course, it would also be very good to build a pipeline to the west, but that may not be as easy. No matter what Canada does, the envirowackos will do everything in their power to disrupt and delay, if not cancel, the project(s).

Supreme Court will hear health care case this term

In a case that could rival the historic Bush v. Gore ruling in shaking the political landscape, the Supreme Court said Monday it will hear arguments next March over President Barack Obama's health care overhaul.

The decision to hear arguments in the spring allows plenty of time for a decision in late June, just over four months before Election Day. This sets up an election-year showdown over the White House's main domestic policy achievement.

The justices announced they will hear more than five hours of arguments from lawyers on the constitutionality of a provision at the heart of the law, the requirement that individuals buy health insurance starting in 2014 or pay a penalty, and other related questions about the act.

Republicans have called the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act unconstitutional since before Obama signed it into law in March 2010. But federal appeals courts have been split on their assessment.

The high court's 5-4 decision in the Bush v. Gore case nearly 11 years ago effectively sealed George W. Bush's 2000 presidential election victory.
I wonder if Kagan will recuse herslf? Yeah right....

#1  Kagan has been asked to recuse herself. Don't know if she will.
Posted by: Deacon Blues || 11/14/2011 15:46 Comments || Top||

#2  I don't see the same argument for recusing Clarence Thomas as I do for Kagan. The Donks think Thomas should recuse himself because his wife worked for an oranization which opposed national healthcare. Kagan was more directly involved in the process. She worked for the Obama administration as solicitor general on healthcare.
Posted by: JohnQC || 11/14/2011 16:02 Comments || Top||

#3  That's right. Kagan was *directly* involved. Thomas was never directly involved.

If we are going to look at friends and relatives of the justices - we may as well have them all recluse themselves....
Posted by: CrazyFool || 11/14/2011 17:12 Comments || Top||

#4  recusing is an ethical act. Don't expect Kevin James Elena Kagan to do that

B.O.: U.S. Gotten a Bit "Lazy" on Attracting Businesses
President B.O. said that the United States has gotten a "little bit lazy" when it comes to bringing in new businesses in to the states. He made the comments at a CEO summit as part of the APEC conference Saturday, when asked by Boeing CEO James McNerney about looking at the world from a Chinese perspective and what they might consider as impediments to investing.

Obama said it's important to remember that the U.S. is still the largest receiver of foreign investment in the world and things like stability, openness and innovative free market culture are attractive. He also said there are a lot of things that make foreign investors see the U.S. as a great opportunity - like stability, openness, our innovative free market culture.

"But we've been a little bit lazy, I think, over the last couple of decades. We've kind of taken for granted -- well, people will want to come here and we aren't out there hungry, selling America and trying to attract new business into America, Obama said.

He then went on to say things his administration has done like setting up Select USA that organizes government agencies in an attempt to make it easier for foreign investors to set up a plant in the U.S.

"Because of our federalist system, sometimes a foreign investor comes in and they've got to navigate not only federal rules, but they've also got to navigate state and local governments that may have their own sets of interests. Being able to create if not a one-stop shop, then at least no more than a couple of stops for people to be able to come into the United States and make investments, that's something that we want to encourage," Obama said.

#3  B.O.: U.S. Gotten a Bit "Lazy" on Attracting Businesses

Translation - It looks like the local shills have dried up for graft, we need some new meat to shake down.

#4  Certainly he was referring to laziness induced by the demands of labor union leaders..

#5  No, the U.S. has gotten a bit "Communist" in demonizing business.

When (communist) China is more business friendly than the U.S. you know we have a problem.

#6  Typical of an individual who has never really occupied a real job, smoked pot and snorted cocain "when ever I could afford it" (Dreams of My Father book he wrote) as part of the Choom Gang in high school. A loser is one who tries to bring everyone DOWN to his level.

#8  Lazy? No.

Gotten to aggressive in bending businesses over and raping them with taxes and regulations? Yes.

#9  The world recovery starts with us, so send your business to the lazy, unexceptional, overpriced USA labor where my government is so large nobody knows what it can, cannot, or will do.

#10  How many times did Obama vote "present" while a Congressman? How many times has he been on vacation? How many times does he play basketball? How many times has he golfed? Talk about lazy.

Nevermind. We are better off when he goes on vacation or goes golfing.
Posted by: JohnQC || 11/14/2011 15:58 Comments || Top||

#11  But we've been a little bit lazy,"

And then he went golfing.

There's another salient quote in this article that may point to his real beef:

"Because of our federalist system, sometimes a foreign investor comes in and they've got to navigate not only federal rules, but they've also got to navigate state and local governments that may have their own sets of interests..."

Darn that federalist system!

If only Obama cronies could run everything!
Posted by: charger || 11/14/2011 21:21 Comments || Top||

#12  Funny, Germany's federalist system doesn't seem to have posed much of an obstacle at all. It's the heavy-handed top-down regulatory welfare state that gunks up the gears.

But surely there are no parallels.

#13  Queerly enough, a number of Indian companies have recently begun outsourcing to the U.S.... Then there were all the Japanese car companies which outsourced production to the U.S., and I think some German car company or other -- I'm afraid I have no head for such things.

We won't even discuss how many people we all know who work 80+ hour weeks.

#14  TW, most of that was pre-Obama.

Here's a tally that calculates at least 2,676,000 jobs destroyed or prevented by Obama administration policies.
