Under a plan announced Thursday, the government would claim the right to control prices on drugs developed with the help of taxpayer money. The administration claims, without evidence, that drugmakers are “gouging” consumers with high prices and that the seizure plan would lower prices. He's flailing
“Today, we’re taking a very important step toward ending price gouging so you don’t have to pay more for the medicine you need,” Biden said in a video posted online on Thursday.
The controversial seizure scheme, which is sure to be challenged in court, would permit the federal government to snatch the patents for high-priced drugs developed in part with public funds. Once seized—in a process known as “march-in rights”—the government would then be able to license competitors to manufacture and sell the drugs.
The details and the legal justification for the expanded power remained vague on Thursday morning. The process of how officials will deem a drug price as too high remains unclear. White House officials have refused to name which drugs might be targeted.
The Biden administration has been in a frenzy to distract public attention away from the widely perceived failures of its management of the U.S. economy. According to several recent polls, less than a third of the public says they approve of the job President Biden has done on the economy.
Polls also suggest that inflation, which hit four-decade highs under President Biden, is seen as the number one issue facing the country for many voters. The Biden administration’s efforts to convince the public that it has succeeded in reducing inflation have fallen flat, prompting many Democrats to implore the White Hosue to drop the term “Bidenomics” from its official statements.
The patent-break plan announced Thursday would do little to reduce inflation, in part because prescription drugs have not been a major source of inflation during the post-pandemic period. The government’s index tracking retail prices of prescription drugs showed that drug prices were down 7.2 percent in October compared with a year earlier. Drug prices have been below their year-ago levels since October of 2022. Prices have declined in four out of the last six months.
Nonetheless, the Biden administration pitched it as part of its “Bidenomics” agenda, claiming that the plan showed “the Biden-Harris Administration is cracking down on price gouging and taking on special interests to lower costs for consumers and ensure every American has access to high-quality, affordable health care.”
The Biden administration’s proposal would grant unprecedented power to officials to use price as a factor when determining whether to implement so-called “march-in rights.” The authority to break patents developed with government money has been on the books for more than 40 years but price has not been a factor in determining their use.
March-in rights were created by a 1980 law known as the Bayh-Dole Act, which was intended to boost the private sector’s participation in government research and encourage the commercialization of products developed with government funds. The act also gave the government the authority to strip a patent if its holders were not making reasonable efforts to bring an invention to the market.
“For the first time, ever, the high price of that taxpayer-funded drug is a factor in determining that the drug is not accessible to the public on reasonable terms,” said Biden domestic policy adviser Neera Tanden, according to the Associated Press.
Critics say that expanding march-in authority so that it could be triggered by prices deemed “unreasonable” would stifle innovation in drug development and may make investors hesitant to accept government funds meant to accelerate the invention process.

The plan could threaten future drugs, according to the pharmaceutical lobbying firm Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America, or PhRMA.Pharmaceutical companies have long relied on government research to develop new drugs. The most recent major breakthrough was the development of COVID-19 vaccines. U.S. taxpayers invested billions of dollars in the effort and were able, until recently, to access treatments and preventions for the virus without paying out-of-pocket for them.
“This would be yet another loss for American patients who rely on public-private sector collaboration to advance new treatments and cures,” PhRMA spokesperson Megan Van Etten said.
Critics of the plan say that the Biden administration knows the unprecedented expansion of the 1980 march-in authority faces an uphill battle in the courts but that it expects to reap political benefits from proposing it. It is being likened to the Biden administration’s plan to forgive student loans, which was deemed illegal by the Supreme Court.

I recall a congressional hearing in which a Big Pharm maker claimed that the cost to recoup the expense of development justified the high price. Only to be cut down by a congresscritter who pointed out that for that particular drug the US government had paid for all the R&D.
* given that Big Pharm slipped lots of compromising money to CDC and NIH personnel as shown in the COVID scam, it would be a 'dish served cold'.

In congress yesterday I saw Ron |Paul speak to introduce a resolution to reestablish congress as the sole war authorization authority. Then I hear overnight inventory on military stockpiles in counts of 30 to 1000 quantities of many varieties. We have so much product no one knows how much. Idaho seems to have more than their fair share. I would bet Ron Paul knows what is going on and wants congress to reestablish their authority to declare war. Not have Biden authorize massive attack. Why put so much in the gulf or Indian ocean to provoke attack with Biden having his red phone or codes. Our troops are on alert and they don't know what day to the next when or where they are deployed. Meanwhile several with high security levels are moving off bases at least 20 miles away. I see Russia and China using North Korea as we have used Ukraine to attack. So North Korea sends a nuke from their sub off our coast then will Biden stop with North Korea. They want to destroy China so who knows how this story ends.

^ Ron Paul hasn't been a congressman for a while now. Rand Paul is a senator and his laudable frequent calls for the USA to get out of pretty much all of our foreign entanglements are totally ignored by the rest of the GOP senators.

[Breitbart] A whistleblower has reportedly brought to light startling revelations about the Pentagon’s involvement in a domestic censorship program, as detailed in newly disclosed files from the Cyber Threat Intelligence League (CTIL).
Public reports that according to a whistleblower’s files, the Cyber Threat Intelligence League (CTIL), previously thought to be an independent entity, was heavily influenced by government and military personnel. This involvement is far more extensive than previously known, as evidenced by Slack messages and other internal communications.
The CTIL Slack channels, specifically those tagged for “disinformation” and “law enforcement escalation,” reportedly included current and former FBI employees, Michigan Cyber Command Center personnel, members of the US Defense Digital Service (DDS), and representatives from at least one European government. The DDS, headquartered at the Pentagon and established in 2015, has been particularly highlighted for its role in these operations.
According to Public, the latest whistleblower files from CTIL reveal that the organization worked with both governments and social media companies to censor Americans:
The new whistleblower’s files provide insight into the group’s inner workings, which Terp described as a “parallel effort.” Neither we nor the whistleblower know what the “parallel effort” refers to.
In these new files, Eric Brogdon, a cybersecurity director for a private firm, and others appear to have attempted to interfere with physical gatherings, with Brogdon implying that he had the ability to get social media users suspended. When one member shared news about a call for anti-lockdown protests, Brogdon responded, “Let me see if I can get the Facebook user suspended.”
This is the second report on CTIL published by Public. As Breitbart News previously reported:
The CTIL documents fill gaps left by previous disclosures, painting a detailed portrait of the so-called “Censorship Industrial Complex.” This network, comprising over 100 government agencies and NGOs, has been instrumental in pushing for censorship on social media platforms and spreading targeted propaganda. The documents include detailed accounts of digital censorship programs, military and intelligence community involvement, partnerships with civil society organizations and media, and the deployment of covert techniques like sock puppet accounts.
The whistleblower’s revelations highlight the pivotal role of CTIL in the creation and expansion of the Censorship Industrial Complex. Spearheaded by Sara-Jayne “SJ” Terp, a former UK defense researcher, and others, CTIL developed a comprehensive censorship framework in 2019. This framework was later adopted by various governmental and non-governmental organizations, including DHS’s Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA).
The Department of Defense, in a public statement, mentioned the merging of DDS with other agencies into the Chief Digital and Artificial Intelligence Office (CDAO) in 2022. They claimed CDAO currently has no involvement with CTIL activities, nor awareness of past projects that predate the merger.
A DOD spokesperson stated: “DDS merged with three other organizations to form the Chief Digital and Artificial Intelligence Office (CDAO) back in Feb 2022. CDAO is not currently involved with CTI and we do not have situational awareness on project participation which predated that merger.”
The CTIL’s activities, allegedly aimed at cybersecurity and protecting healthcare systems, have also come under scrutiny, with whistleblower accounts suggesting that the CTIL’s primary function overlapped significantly with other cybersecurity services.
Key individuals have been identified in the whistleblower’s files, including Justin Frappier of the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), who expressed enthusiasm for anti-disinformation efforts within the group. The involvement of government employees in these activities suggests a concerted effort to leverage CTIL for broader objectives than previously disclosed.

[FoxNews] New York City Mayor Eric Adams declared in a speech after visiting Washington, D.C., that he sees the "cold reality" his city will have to face the migrant crisis on its own for the time being.
The migrant crisis has plagued the mayor for more than a year and, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released Wednesday, Adams' approval rating sits at 28% among self-identified registered voters. The rating is the lowest Quinnipiac has ever recorded for a New York City mayor since it began tracking the statistic in 1996.
On Thursday, Adams traveled to Washington, D.C., to meet with congressional leaders and Biden officials to appeal for more federal aid for the sanctuary city’s migrant crisis. He broke the news that he left empty-handed at a press conference with religious leaders the next day.
Adams acknowledged New Yorkers are upset the migrant crisis has taken "resources that should go to the day-to-day services of running this city," but said, "We did not walk out from D.C. with any level of optimism that anything is going to drastically change."
"It is clear that for the time being, this crisis is going to be carried by the cities," he said at City Hall on Friday. "Here in New York City, as you know, we had a very painful November plan that we had to produce, and now we’re looking forward for the direction of how do we address a $7 billion budget deficit that we have to address in January."
New York City has seen more than 140,000 migrants come in since last year, which has left the city’s social services overwhelmed and forced deep budget cuts to policing, sanitation and education.
