East African force begins withdrawal from DRC
[AFRICANEWS] The withdrawal of the East African force (EAC-RF) deployed in the east of the DRC and whose renewal Kinshasa refused, deeming it ineffective, continued on Friday with the departure from Goma of some 250 South Sudan
...a Moslem country located in the Horn of Africa. It is noted for its affinity for rule by ex- or current generals, its holy men, and for the oppression of the native Afro population by its Arab conquerors. South Sudan, populated mostly by the natives, split off from Sudan proper, which left North and South Darfur to be oppressed by the guys with turbans...
ese soldiers, noted an AFP team.

Nearly 300 Kenyan soldiers from this force, whose mandate ends on December 8, had already left Goma, the quiet provincial capital of North Kivu, last Sunday.

In fatigues, weapons in hand, the South Sudanese soldiers took off from Goma airport around 5:20 a.m. (3:20 a.m. GMT) bound for Juba. A second rotation is planned for later in the morning, indicating an EAC-RF source on site.

In addition to Kenyan and South Sudanese soldiers, the EAC-RF also includes Ugandan and Burundian soldiers.

The Ugandans and Burundians should also leave in the coming weeks, said the source on site. The officers will leave last. "The withdrawal will take place for a month, i.e. until January 7," she added. The equipment will leave by road.

Ugandan and Burundian troops are also present in the east of the Democratic Republic of the Congo
...formerly the Congo Free State, Belgian Congo, Zaire, and who knows what else, not to be confused with the Brazzaville Congo aka Republic of Congo, which is much smaller and much more (for Africa) stable. DRC gave the world Patrice Lumumba and Joseph Mobutu, followed by years of tedious civil war. Its principle industry seems to be the production of corpses. With a population of about 74 million it has lots of raw material...
under bilateral agreements with Kinshasa.

EAC-RF soldiers began arriving in Goma in November 2022, about a year after the resurgence in North Kivu of the M23 rebellion ( "March 23 Movement" ) which, with the support of Rwanda according to numerous sources, has taken over large parts of the province.

The Congolese authorities then invited the EAC to deploy its force to liberate areas conquered by the rebels.

But the Congolese quickly became very critical of the EAC troops, accusing them of cohabiting with the rebels rather than forcing them to lay down their arms. At the end of an EAC summit on November 25, the regional organization announced that the DRC "would not renew the mandate of the regional force beyond December 8, 2023".

To replace it, Kinshasa is counting in particular on troops from the Southern African Community (SADC). A spokesperson for Congolese President Félix Tshisekedi mentioned the date of December 10 for the start of their deployment, which has not been confirmed at this stage by the SADC or by potential contributing countries.

The departure of the EAC-RF comes as fighting continues between the M23 and the Congolese army supported by so-called "patriotic" militiamen.

A UN mission, MONUSCO, formerly MONUC, has been present in the DRC since 1999. But it is also accused of ineffectiveness and Kinshasa is asking for its departure, "orderly" but "accelerated" , from January 2024.

Nigeria: those behind drone strike to be ''punished''
[AFRICANEWS] The Nigerian government promised on Thursday to "punish" those responsible for the accidental bombing of civilians last Sunday in the north-west of the country, at a time when the army is under fire from civil society.
Promises are easy. the Nigerian government has over the years made a great many of them.
"The government will get to the bottom of this story and punish those who must be punished", Vice-President Kashim Shettima assured local television during a visit to the Kaduna hospital where those injured in the attack, which left at least 85 dead and 66 injured according to official figures, are being treated.

"The victims will be taken care of," he added.

"IMPARTIAL INVESTIGATIONS"
On Sunday evening, a dronezap by the Nigerian army targeted the village of Tudun Biri, in Kaduna state, whose inhabitants were celebrating the Moslem festival of Mawlid.

Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ordered an investigation on Tuesday, but on Wednesday the United Nations
...an organization originally established to war on dictatorships which was promptly infiltrated by dictatorships and is now held in thrall to dictatorships...
"urged" Abuja to ensure that the investigation was "thorough and impartial" and that the government "hold those responsible to account" and provide reparations to the victims and their families.

Meanwhile,
...back at the desert island, Bert climbed the cocoanut tree, looking for ships. He saw none. He looked in the other direction and saw Irene, vigorously scrubbing her backside...
the NGO Amnesia Amnesty International says the corpse count stands at 120.

"The Nigerian authorities must investigate quickly, independently, impartially and transparently", the NGO demanded in a statement on Thursday, adding that "those responsible must be brought to justice".

Arabia
Pro-Palestinian activists bemoan tight restrictions on protest at Dubai’s COP28
Truly we live in an age of miracles. May God bless you and keep you, Donald Trump!
. [IsraelTimes] Protest group leader complains of limited space for activities, ban on flags, certain slogans; ’We couldn’t speak about apartheid or about occupation,’ other organizer says.

Pro-Paleostinian activists at the COP28 climate summit in Dubai said on Friday they were facing unprecedented restrictions including prohibitions on flags, designated protest zones, and scrutiny of their slogans.

Although the summit is taking place in a "blue zone" under UN control — protest is de facto banned in the Gulf emirate — strict rules are in place, in particular when it comes to denouncing the Israel-Hamas
...not a terrorist organization, even though it kidnaps people, holds hostages, and tries to negotiate by executing them,...
war, the activists said during a meeting with journalists.

The war erupted after the devastating October 7 onslaught on Israel by Hamas-led bandidos Death Eaters who killed 1,200 people, mostly civilians slaughtered in their homes and at a music festival amid brutal atrocities, and took some 240 hostages. Israel then launched an offensive aimed at destroying the terror group’s military and government in the Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. Strip, where it has ruled since 2007.

When asked for comment, the UN’s climate body, the UNFCC, said that "within the blue zone, space is available for participants to assemble peacefully and make their voices heard on climate-related issues."

However,
it was a brave man who first ate an oyster...
Asad Rehman, of the organization War on Want, said COP28 was "probably the most restrictive we’ve seen, way more restrictive than Egypt last year."

He cited tightened rules such as bans on waving flags or explicitly targeting a country, including during pressers.

Slogans, which must be declared in advance to the UNFCC, regarding calls for a ceasefire in Gaza have led to difficult discussions with officials, he said.

"We were told... we couldn’t speak about apartheid or about occupation," said Tasneem Essop of Climate Action Network International.

She said the zones where protests are permitted are restricted and not very visible, while activists have been asked by security agents to refrain from displaying symbols of support for Paleostinians, such as the keffiyeh.

The activists, who are planning a march on Saturday, said they had received assurances from the Emirati presidency of COP28 that the restrictions had not been imposed by the United Arab Emirates, which normalized its relations with Israel in 2020.

Sebastien Duyck, from the Center for International Environmental Law, said it was "simply unacceptable" for UN representatives to decide "what messages can be tolerated, and what messages are not appropriate."

The UN climate body said it had received 167 "action submissions," more than the 153 at COP27, and that it had permitted 14 demonstrations per day in the first week of the conference, a similar number to 2022.

"In a small number of specific cases the UNFCC secretariat are working directly with those requesting actions to ensure that the code of conduct can be adhered to," it added.

The Grand Turk
Turkey calls for uniting with Russia and Syria to fight terrorism
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Regnum] The leader of the Turkish Motherland Party, Dogu Perincek,
...a former revolutionary communist, he now calls himself a scientific socialist (whatever that means), and is apparently valued by the Erdogan government as a foreign policy expert. In practical terms, he is anti-West and pro-China, as they, like him, have moved beyond Maoism...
called for the creation of a Turkey-Russia-Syria military format to fight terrorists in northern Syria.

He noted that an armed solution is needed in Gaza, since the enclave cannot be helped by speeches alone.

“We call for the creation of a Turkey-Russia-Syria military format to combat terrorist groups in northern Syria,” Perincek said in an interview with RIA Novosti.
A lovely idea. But aren’t Turkish forces fighting the Syrian Arqb Army and Russia at the moment? Who is this “we” you speak of?
He noted that this would be the best support for the Palestinian movement and a counterweight to American expansion in the region.
Eh?
“A front will be opened against the United States and Zionism. This format has become a necessity. This will destroy American plans and ensure the territorial integrity of Syria,” he said.
Good lord. Mr. Perincek, esq. (he trained as a lawyer in Turkey, then got a PhD in Germany) is even more unsure about geography than I, a thing I had thought impossible.
As Regnum reported , the Israeli authorities launched Operation Iron Swords against Hamas after the country was subjected to a rocket attack from the Gaza Strip on October 7, as well as the infiltration of militants into Israeli territory.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on December 5 expressed confidence that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will not escape criminal punishment for war crimes in Gaza. Sooner or later he will stand trial and pay for the war crimes he committed, the Turkish leader said.
...even if they have to dig up his skeleton a millennium hence to put it on trial...
The Turkish President also noted that if international law is properly respected and these war crimes are punished, then this decision will become an example for all oppressors both in the Palestinian region and in other regions of the world.
Contrariwise, if international law were actually properly respected, Bibi would have been left to sit in peace under his vine and his fig tree while Turkish president Erdogan was the one to stand trial — it might yet happen!
On December 4, Russian President Vladimir Putin, at the ceremony of presenting credentials by foreign ambassadors, noted that Russia, as a permanent member of the UN Security Council, will continue to contribute to the resolution of pressing world problems.

According to him, Moscow will consistently defend approaches to ensuring equal and indivisible security, to forming a fair system of international economic relations, free from unfair competition, unilateral sanctions and politically motivated restrictions.

The Russian leader touched upon the topic of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, which, according to Putin, has acquired the features of a humanitarian catastrophe.

Arizona governor requests $512 million reimbursement from Biden for southern border security 'failure'
[FoxNews] Abortion Mouse squeaks!
The federal goverment ordered the state's Lukeville Port of Entry on the border with Mexico closed earlier in the week

In a letter to President Biden on Friday, Democratic Arizona Gov. Katie Hobbs expressed her frustration and concern about the administration's response to the southern border crisis and, in the process, demanded a hefty reimbursement.

"Today, I sent a letter to President Biden calling on him to reassign National Guard members to assist in its reopening, as well as reimburse the $512,529,333 federal border inaction has cost us," Hobbs posted on X.

In the letter, Hobbs told Biden that the reimbursements are for the federal government’s "failure to secure the Arizona border," emphasizing that moving forward, the state Arizona will regularly seek reimbursement from the federal government.

On Monday, the Lukeville Port of Entry was closed at the federal government's order, forcing all American and Mexican residents to drive several hours to the next closest port of entry in Nogales, Arizona.

"For far too long, Arizona has continued to bear the burden of federal inaction in managing our southern border," Hobbs wrote in the letter. "The recent decision to close the Lukeville Port of Entry has led to an unmitigated humanitarian crisis in the area and has put Arizona's safety and commerce at risk."

In her letter, Hobbs urged Biden to "immediately" move 243 National Guard soldiers who are already assigned to the Tucson region to the Lukeville Port of Entry.

"Further, to the extent it is necessary, I am requesting that additional National Guard members currently on federal active duty orders be reassigned to Arizona to assist U.S. Customs and Border Protection to reopen the Lukeville Port of Entry," Hobbs said.

Hobbs was set to travel to the state's southern border with Mexico this weekend to visit the border crisis in Lukeville.

#1  Beginning to get a clue...the article doesn't mention why they closed the one point of entry, but it's a good start. If they can close Lukeville, AZ, they can close others.

Of course, now is the time of year when it is relatively safe to walk several miles through the Arizona desert. So "migrants" can really cross just about anywhere. Not like June or July.

Polyansky calls the United States complicit in bloodshed in the Middle East
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Regnum] The United States, by its decision to veto in the UN Security Council a resolution on an immediate ceasefire in the Middle East, pronounced a sentence on the civilian population in Israel and Palestine, First Deputy Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the UN Dmitry Polyansky said on December 8.

“Once again, cynically blocking the call for a ceasefire in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict zone, our colleagues from the United States, before our very eyes, imposed a death sentence on thousands, if not tens of thousands, of civilians in Palestine and Israel, including women and children, as well as UN employees trying to help them,” said the Russian diplomat.

Polyansky emphasized that today will be one of the darkest days in the history of the Middle East.

The cynically repeated empty words about democracy, human rights, women, peace and security, some kind of rules and order only indicate that the real price can be seen now, when two members of the UN Security Council chose to remain accomplices in the ruthless Israeli massacre, the deputy permanent representative noted .

As Regnum reported, on December 8, the United States vetoed a UAE resolution in the UN Security Council demanding an immediate cessation of hostilities in the Gaza Strip and the release of all hostages without preconditions.

The project, co-sponsored by 98 countries, was supported by 13 delegations, the United States spoke out against it, and representatives of Great Britain abstained. Russia and China were among those who voted for the adoption of the document.
Good for America. It says something that I was not sure the Biden administration would continue the long-standing American tradition of not allowing the world to run too roughshod over Israel.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Only 69 aid trucks entered Gaza Thursday, UN says
[IsraelTimes] Fewer than 70 trucks of humanitarian aid entered Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response...
yesterday, the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs says, revealing a figure far below what the US and international aid groups have been seeking.

The US has told Israel it wants the amount of aid that entered Gaza during last week’s truce to be sustained and built on moving forward.

Two-hundred trucks of aid entered Gaza each day during the truce, but since it expired last Friday the daily number of trucks hasn’t ever even been more than half that figure, and on Thursday it fell to 69 trucks.

Israel has blamed the UN for the fall-off in the number of trucks being let into Gaza, while international aid groups say delivery is curbed by the ongoing IDF bombing campaign.

After the Wednesday Israeli cabinet decision to allow more fuel into Gaza, 61,000 liters of it entered the Strip on Thursday, OCHA says.

This is just one-third of the amount requested by the US to support the humanitarian effort, but Israel has told Washington it will work to double the number in the coming days and later reach 180,000 liters per day.

Over 200K Palestinians who worked in Israel remain at home two months into war — official
Hamas destroyed Israeli trust in all Palestinians October 7th. But a majority of West Bankers support the massacre and would vote for Hamas if an election were actually held, so it seems fair they should share the consequences. Those against it can make up lost pay by pointing out the bad guys in their midst to the Israeli authorities, just like they’ve been doing in Gaza.
[IsraelTimes] Over 200,000 Paleostinians from the West Bank and Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response...
Strip are now entering their third month without working in Israel, as the IDF maintains a partial lockdown over the territories imposed on October 7, an Israeli official tells The Times of Israel.

Some 150,000 Paleostinians from the West Bank had permits to enter Israel for work before the war.

An estimated 20,000 to 40,000 more Paleostinians from the West Bank were entering illegally for work in what Israel allowed to maintain critical industries such as construction.

Over 17,000 Paleostinians from Gaza also had permits to work legally in Israel.

The overwhelming majority of those Paleostinians have remained at home since, as Israel has taken steps to disconnect from Gaza while also maintaining significant curbs on movement in the West Bank it says are critical for maintaining security after the October 7 Hamas
...a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth",...
massacre.

A second source familiar with the matter tells The Times of Israel that Israel began allowing roughly 8,000 Paleostinians from the West Bank to return to work in recent weeks.

This minority serves in industries that provide essential services, such as sanitation, health services and hospitality, the source says.

The vast majority of these 8,000 Paleostinians work in Israeli settlements in the West Bank, while those with jobs in the Green Line have largely been unable to return.

The head of the Yesha council of settler mayors Shlomo Ne’eman penned a letter to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu earlier this week urging him not to allow the Paleostinian workers back into the settlements, referring to them as a security threat to residents.

The letter makes no mention of the fact that nearly 8,000 Paleostinian workers are already back in the settlements.

Netanyahu was asked about the issue during a presser this week during which he indicated that the security establishment is pushing for Israel to gradually allow the workers to return, given that mass unemployment in the West Bank risks destabilizing the territory further.

He said the matter would be brought before the security cabinet for debate before any decision was made.

The next day, the security cabinet convened but no decision was made on the matter so the Paleostinian workers will remain home for the foreseeable future.

This means over $350 million in lost revenue for the West Bank economy each month.

The crisis is compounded due to the monthly tax revenues that the PA hasn’t received from Israel since the war started. Israel decided to deduct some $275 million from the funds that belong to Ramallah, leading the PA to refuse to accept any of the revenues, which make up over 60% of its budget.

Thousands of PA employees have not been receiving their salaries as a result.

Red Cross reprimands Israeli hostage families: 'Think about the Palestinians'
Not neutral — they’re on the other side.
[Jerusalem Post] The Red Cross has sparked outrage in Israel with how it has handled the mass kidnapping and massacre conducted by Hamas.

Families of Israelis being held hostage by Hamas were reprimanded by representatives of the Red Cross in a meeting earlier this week, with the Red Cross telling one family they need to "think about the Palestinian side," KAN reported on Thursday night.

Roni and Simona, the parents of Doron Steinbrecher who was kidnapped by Hamas terrorists from Kfar Azza on October 7, were invited to a meeting with the Red Cross earlier this week.

Doron needs a medication she takes daily and her parents thought that the Red Cross was finally willing to transfer the medication to her, but instead they were sat down and reprimanded by representatives of the Red Cross.

"Think about the Palestinian side," the representatives of the Red Cross told Simona, according to KAN. "It's hard for the Palestinians, they're being bombed."

Simona expressed shock at the Red Cross's behavior. "We left there as we entered: without new information, without something new, and with disappointment," said Simona.

will be a partner in the process, Bloomberg reports.

According to the news outlet, citing a senior Paleostinian official, US officials recently met with premier Mohammed Shtayyeh on a plan for post-war Gaza.

"We’re not going to go there on an Israeli military plan," Shtayyeh is quoted saying. "Our people are there. We need to put together a mechanism, something we’re working on with the international community."

Israel says it is committed to eliminating Hamas to defend itself, a goal supported by the US, and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has also rebuffed the idea of the PA running Gaza.

Shtayyeh says Israel cannot eliminate Hamas, and despite the rival group’s recent slaughter of some 1,000 Israeli civilians, looks forward to working with the terror organization, refusing to condemn the October 7 attack.

"Hamas before October 7 is one thing and after it is another thing," says Shtayyeh. "If they are ready to come to an agreement and accept the political platform of the PLO, then there will be room for talk. Paleostinians should not be divided."

He says the group cannot be eliminated. "Hamas is in Leb

Formerly inhabited by hardy Phoenecian traders, its official language is now Arabic, with the usual unpleasant side effects. The Leb civil war, between 1975 and 1990, lasted a little over 145 years and produced 120,000 fatalities. The average length of a ceasefire was measured in seconds. The Lebs maintain a precarious sectarian balance among Shiites, Sunnis, and about a dozen flavors of Christians, plus Armenians, Georgians, and who knows what else? It is the home of the original Hezbollah, which periodically starts a war with the Zionist Entity, gets Beirut pounded to rubble, and then declares victory and has a parade. and they are here in the West Bank," he adds.

The outlet reports that Shtayyeh is set to fly to Qatar in a bid to get Doha to start sending money to the PA instead of to Hamas.

He previously served as deputy national security advisor from 2013 to 2015 and deputy secretary of state from 2015 to 2017 under the corrupt and inept Obama administration. He advocated for the 2003 invasion of Iraq while serving as the Democratic staff director of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee from 2002 to 2008. He was a foreign policy advisor for the Biden 2008 presidential campaign. During his tenure in the Obama administration, Blinken helped craft B.O.'s policy on Afghanistan, Pakistan, and the nuclear program of Iran. We all saw how well each of those worked. After leaving government service, Blinken moved into the private sector, co-founding WestExec Advisors, a lobbying firm...
’s reported warning last week that Israel likely has "weeks" to wrap up the fighting, but also highlights comments yesterday by Deputy National Security Adviser Jon Finer that Washington has not given a "firm deadline" to Jerusalem.

A senior Israeli official appears to brush off the prospect of a US deadline.

"They advised us not to go into Gaza, but we did," the official tells Politico. "We went into Gaza because that was the only way we could destroy Hamas and free our hostages. They told us, don’t go into the terror tunnels. But if we don’t go into the terror tunnels, there’s no way we can destroy Hamas. They told us not to go into the hospitals despite them being used by Hamas as command and control centers, but we went into those hospitals, and we did what we needed to do."

"And we’ll do what we need to do to reach decisive victory," the official adds.

#1  Hey, guys, we have an election next year! And we've got enough quagmires dragging on in Ukraine with another potential one in Guyana!

And we all remember what "quagmire" did to LBJ in 1968.
