#8  "You didn't build that."
~ Soetoro

Wiki - "You didn't build that" is a phrase from a 2012 election campaign speech delivered by United States President Barack Obama on July 13, 2012, in Roanoke, Virginia. In the speech, Obama said: "Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive. Somebody invested in roads and bridges. If you've got a business, you didn't build that."

The sentence "If you've got a business, you didn't build that" was publicized by his political opponents during the 2012 presidential campaign as an attack by Obama on business and entrepreneurs.[1][2][3] The Obama campaign responded that the criticisms were taking the phrase out of context, and the word "that" in the phrase was referring to the construction of "roads and bridges" in the previous sentence.[4]

Fact-checking organizations reported that Obama's remarks were incorrectly used out of context to criticize him.[4][5] The Washington Post commented that his remarks reflected the belief, common among Democrats, that successful citizens owed their success partly to public infrastructure and government spending, and that they should contribute to finance public works.[6] The Republican Party continued to use the phrase to criticize Obama throughout the 2012 presidential campaign.[7]

Tens of Thousands of Career ‘Civil Service’ Administrators in Washington, DC, Apoplectic That Trump Might Fire Them December 30, 2023
[ConservativeTreehouse] This op-ed published in Politico is intended to sound the alarm about President Donald Trump fundamentally destroying the system of career civil service agents in Washington DC, and it’s also a little funny.

I mean, if you built an echo-chamber ideological in magnitude and scale, then self-isolated inside the DC beltway barrier, this would be exactly the type of alarm to follow.

POLITICO – […] President Donald Trump’s sweeping proposal to convert thousands of career civil servants into political appointees if he wins a second term in the White House. That plan — which has won the support of powerful, Trump-aligned conservative think tanks such as the Heritage Foundation and the America First Policy Institute — is modeled on an executive order from Trump’s first term that redesignated 20,000 civil servants in policy-related positions as “Schedule F” employees, thereby allowing them to be fired unilaterally by the president.

[…] Americans should not underestimate the damage that the reforms would do to the federal government’s ability to deliver basic services in a timely and efficient manner. “At the end of the day, it’s intuitive,” he said. “If you are selecting people on the basis of their political persuasion or their loyalty as opposed to their expertise and their commitment to the public good, you’re going to wind up with less good service and more risk for the American people.” (MORE)

Apparently, Mr. Max Stier has misread the room.

#4  One big help in the "amazing" US GDP numbers are the rise in government workers which means they are double-counted for GDP purposes. All is rosy in the USSA!

#5  Civil Service as suppose to be a apolitical bureaucracy in which the members received a modest salary and pension in return for job protection. It has delivered a very politicized bureaucracy that makes far more in wages and benefits than the average American along with near impossibility of being fired.

Never seen a GS-1. Remove any protection for anything above a GS-10.
