Afghanistan
Daily Evacuation Brief January 18, 2023
[AfghanDigest] LAST 24 HOURS
  • TALIBAN RECOMMENCE PUBLIC PUNISHMENTS IN KANDAHAR PROVINCE – 9 Afghan men were publicly flogged in the sports stadium of Kandahar city yesterday. The men had been sentenced for adultery and theft. Several media outlets had reported the punishments included amputations (hands) but those reports seem to be in dispute at the moment. The public lashings are thought to be the first after a break of nearly fourteen days. Photos of the stadium showed it at near capacity.

  • RUMORS OF ANOTHER PURGE IN THE MILITARY – Senior officials in the Ministry of Defense have long expressed concern over a lack of discipline in the ranks. Virtually from the moment the Taliban took power, there have been expressions of concern that some among the security forces consistently act with malice towards citizens and most in the Taliban leadership have expressed outrage over the reported atrocities committed against both civilians and Resistance prisoners. On at least three occasions, the Taliban have publicly admitted to removing several thousand of their fighters. In a signal that another purge is in the works, Deputy Minister of Defense, Mullah Mohammad Fazel Mazloum, has ordered leaders within the security apparatus to identify those ‘abusers’ within the force.

  • TEACHERS AND STAFF IN NANGARHAR MUST OBSERVE NEW DRESS AND GROOMING RULES – Taliban education officials in Nangarhar have ordered all staff to grow beards and wear hats/turbans for prayers. Those who fail to observe the new standards will face immediate dismissal.

NEXT 24 HOURS
TEMPERATURES SHOULD NORMALIZE SOON – Most of the meteorological forecasts indicate that temperatures should warm up over the next few days and should bring a bit of respite to those who have been exposed to the cold. Rural roadways may be unpassable due to mud.

NB: The Afghan Digest posted an image of an alert that the GDI, the Taliban’s intelligence unit, is hunting for thirteen named officials of the former government, Unfortunately, I don’t know how to copy and paste outside images, so you’ll need to go to the link to see it, dear Reader. The next learning curve for me to climb, I suppose.

Somalia: Al-Shabaab suffers more defeats in latest army operation
The Somali National Army [SNA] with assistance from members of the local militia has managed to capture El-Dher in the Galgadud region within Galmudug

on Tuesday.

The troops entered the town without encountering resistance from the turbans who reportedly withdrew from the small town ahead of the assault.

Meanwhile,
...back at the pound, the little lost dog backed into the corner and showed its teeth. And what big teeth they were!...
the allied forces killed ver 23 suspected al-Shabaab murderous Moslems, in the latest operation at Danow location near Shalanbod District in the Lower Shabelle region where the turbans are popular.

Odowaa Yusuf Rageh, Somalia's Chief of Defense Forces, the turbans were planning to launch an assault on members of the Somali National Army and officers from the African Union

Transition Mission in Somalia [ATMIS], who are vital in the restoration of peace and stability in the country.

Security forces from both teams with assistance from the local militia, the Chief of Defense Forces added, responded swiftly in the Monday incident killing instantly at least 23 forces of Evil whose main aim was to ambush them at a central location within Lower Shabelle.

"Our SNA forces killed 23 terrorist turbans of al-Shabaab and injured others at Danow location in the lower Shabelle region this morning. The forces recovered large weapons during the operation", Army Chief told the state media.

In his remarks, the Chief of Defense Forces added: "We have made critical steps in the fight against al-Shabaab and there is no doubt about that. Everyone in the country is tired of these people and we are in the process of eliminating them completely. We thank those cooperating well with us."

A defeated al-Shabaab, sources added, started driving locals out of the towns to keep them away from members of the Somali National Army [SNA] and other state officials.

The al-Shabaab was raking in millions of dollars from the two towns, which partly assists them in the payment of fighters besides facilitating other logistics.

The al-Shabaab extortionists have also lost grip in other parts of the country with President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud projecting that by the end of January, the turbans may have completely lost their traditional strongholds in Middle and Lower Shabelle, with significant progress also made within the dangerous Jubba region.

Woman killed, 8 wounded in al-Shabaab attack on PSV in Mandera

holy warriors attacked a public service vehicle plying the Banisa- Mandera road, Mandera County.

The vehicle had 12 occupants when the button men attacked it, police and survivors said.

Locals said the attackers opened fire between Sarman and Olla.

The rest of the passengers in the motor vehicle escaped with injuries.

Local officials said they have been sighting forces of Evil in the area planning to launch attacks.

The area is near the porous Kenya-Somalia border which is usually breached by terrorists.

Police said they suspect the attackers were targeting the four-wheel drive car.

On Sunday, January 15, the Somali-based Islamist terror group attempted to conduct a sectarian attack in Takaba by targeting another PSV vehicle but was baulked by the local Moslem community.

Witnesses said some of the passengers on board refused to cooperate with the attack on the vehicle forcing the attackers to flee.

Northeastern regional police boss George Seda said the attacker escaped soon after the incidents.

He said one victim who was injured in the Banisa incident was stable in the hospital.

There are fears of more attacks planned in the area amid heightened vigilance.

The border region has borne the brunt of repeated attacks from the holy warriors who are at times aided by residents.

The forces of Evil at times plant explosives on the routes used by security agencies and attack them.

Somalia has not had a stable government after the fall of Siad Barre in 1991.

Somali troops dislodge third town from Al-Shabaab in two days
[ShabelleMedia] The war against al-Shabaab
...... Somalia's version of the Taliban
...Arabic for students...
, functioning as an arm of al-Qaeda...

is raging on at a speed time as the SNA and vigilantes take over three towns within two days, a victory that will live long.

The minister of defense Abdulakadir Mohammed Nur ticked with a green pen the seizure of the El-Dhere in Galgadud from al-Shabaab peacefully as the gunnies fled from their bases.

El-Dher joined dozens of liberated areas in southern and central regions of Somalia during the current all-out offensive assisted by US military and local clan fighters.

On Monday, the army and their allied locals captured the strategic Indian Ocean city of Harardhere, which has been al-Shabaab’s nerve economic and command center for years.

The latest gains came at no cost of lives as al-Shabaab leaves every district without posing resistance to the SNA assault.

The al-Qaeda-linked gunnies carried out ambush attacks against military bases in Hiran and Middle Shabelle regions, where the group faced big losses on the battlefields.

Al-Shabaab attacks military base after loss of key stronghold, driven off leaving 21 deaders behind
[ShabelleMedia] al-Shabaab
...... the personification of Somali state failure...
executed a daring dawn raid against a Somali military camp in the Middle Shabelle region, the latest in a series of hit-and-run attacks.

Residents in Hawadley, about 75 kilometers north of the capital, Mogadishu reported a complex attack on a newly established army base in the small town after the Fajr prayers.

Heavily holy warriors made their way into the camp after detonating boom-mobiles at the gates and then engaged in a shootout with the Somali troops and local clan fighters.

There were no immediate reports of the casualties but al-Shabaab said it killed soldiers and commanders from the Somali National Army [SNA] in the Tuesday morning assault.

On the 9th of this month, a similar attack happened in the area where SNA killed as many as 60 attackers from al-Shabaab in the foiled base raid.

Today’s attack comes hours after Somali troops captured Harardhere town in the Mudug region from al-Shabaab. The takeover followed the seizure of nearby areas, including Gal’ad.

SNA chief confirms 21 militants killed in repelled Al-Shabaab attack

[ShabelleMedia] The commander of the Somali National Army [SNA] General Odowa Yusuf Rage confirmed at least 21 a l-Shabaab

forces of Evil were killed in the repelled attack.

Speaking to the state media, Odowa said the forces of Evil were overpowered during an attack against the Somali army camp in Hawadley, a small town in the Middle Shabelle region on Tuesday.

The commander confirmed five soldiers and SNA’s 3rd battalion perished in the attack that came hours after the capture of three towns — Gal’ad, Harardhere, and El-Dher in Galmudug
...a semiautonomous region in central Somalia, bordering Puntland on the north. Galmudug is not trying to obtain international recognition as a separate nation, but rather considers itself autonomous within the larger Somali federalism, for what that's worth...
Al-Shabaab has stepped up base attacks after losing ground to allied troops in the south and central regions with the government vowing to continue the liberation operations.

The death of Colonel Abshir Mohamud Shataqey sent a wave of shock among the SNA and the government with top leaders sending condolences to his family and friends.

Hawadley situation returned to normal following the morning al-Shabaab attack, according to the military officials in the area. al-Shabaab was pushed back from key areas in Somalia.

Senior military commander among soldiers killed in Somalia attack

[Garowe] Al-Shabaab attack killed a senior army commander and five soldiers in Hawaadley village on Tuesday, in the latest attack that comes amid sustained military operations within the Horn of Africa nation which has been struggling with instability.

Through proxy media organizations, the Al-Shabaab claimed to have killed the senior commander, terming the operation successful. The Al-Shabaab has often targeted security officers in the Horn of Africa nation and at times civilians leading to sustained military operations in the country.

According to reports, Colonel Abshir Mohamud Mohamed Shataqey was among those reportedly among the number of soldiers killed in the Hawaadley Al-Shabaab attack. The militants used VBIEDs which caused casualties among the soldiers, sources said, adding that the attack was coordinated.

Somali army chief General Odowa Yusuf Rage said the troops repelled the attack and killed at least 21 militants while confirming the deaths of 5 soldiers at the base in Hawaadley, which fell to SNA in October 2022 during an offensive led by Shataqey, who died in Today's attack.

On Jan 9, the government reported foiling a raid by militants on a military camp in the Hawaadley area, killing over 60 militants. But in equal measure, the militants claimed that they had killed several military officers but did not immediately disclose the number, a claim which was disputed by the government.

However, despite the latest attack, the Somali National Army is said to be in control of the town. The militants are said to have waged sporadic attacks after losing strategic towns across the country. For the last five months, the Al-Shabaab militants have been on the receiving end, registering several deaths.

Al-Shabaab usually stages attacks and exaggerates the death toll as a strategy to claim fake victory against the government forces. But in recent weeks, the government has been strict on social media users and the media over the dissemination of fake information with the aid of Al-Shabaab.

The death of Colonel Abshir Mohamud Mohamed is the first death involving a senior military commander since the current operation started last year. President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has insisted that his administration will not tolerate Al-Shabaab, adding that it's incumbent upon locals to join the fight.

Europe
500 ATMs blown up by migrant gangs in Germany in 2022, setting a new record
[RE] Organized criminal gangs active in the Netherlands and France, mostly made up of Moroccan migrants, are blowing up ATMs in Germany at a record pace in highly professional robbery operations. In 2022, government statistics indicate that they blew up 500 such machines, with statistically more than one machine being blown up every day.

Cash remains popular with Germans, and to feed this demand, banks operate nearly 100,000 ATMs located throughout the country, with the machines routinely containing between €50,000 and €100,000. Criminal gangs are taking advantage of this, and they are willing to use extreme methods to gain access to this money. These criminal networks are said to meticulously plan their operations out, including initial surveillance, demolition, and the getaway. Police also say they act with brutality and ruthlessness, putting human lives at risk.

In fact, these migrant gangs are blowing up banks with such powerful explosives, that they are destroying entire buildings. In some cases, they have blown bank vault doors up to 30 meters away, underlining how powerful these blasts can be. Police say the danger facing Germans is unprecedented, as many of these banks are located in residential buildings.

Dutch Police Arrest Syrian Refugee For His Role In ISIS, HTS

Dutch authorities arrested on Tuesday a Syrian refugee, charging him with war crimes during the civil war in Syria and being a senior figure in the Islamic State (ISIS) and Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS, formerly al-Nusra Front).

The suspect, 37, sought asylum in the Netherlands in 2019 and resided in the town of Arkel, west of Rotterdam, where he was arrested.

Prosecutors said that Dutch authorities received information that the suspect had a prominent role in the ISIS security services between 2015 and 2018.

In addition, he allegedly kidnapped, tortured, and killed people in a Palestinian refugee camp outside Damascus between 2015 and 2017.

On Friday, the man will appear before a judge in the Hague, according to the prosecution.
Update from Breitbart about the still-nameless man at 12:15 p.m. ET:
The man is suspected of holding “a managerial position in the security service of IS” from 2015-2018, prosecutors said. For two years prior to that, he allegedly carried out the same work for Jabhat al-Nusra. Prosecutors say he held both functions “in and around the Yarmouk refugee camp” south of the Syrian capital, Damascus.

The suspect applied for asylum in the Netherlands in 2019 and later settled in Arkel, prosecutors said. He was scheduled to appear before an examining magistrate in The Hague on Feb. 20.

It wasn’t the first time Dutch authorities arrested a suspect from the Syrian conflict. Last year, a Dutch court convicted two Syrian brothers of holding senior roles in Jabhat al-Nusra between 2011 and 2014.

French Man, Wife On Trial Over Joining ISIS In Syria

French man Jonathan Jeffrey and his wife were seen in court over charges of links to the Islamic State (ISIS) and participating in terrorist acts with the group in Syria.

Jeffrey, joined the radical group in 2015 along with his Moroccan wife Latifa Shadley when their baby was two months old. On Monday, Jeffery and Shadley appeared in court.

Jeffery’s mother, Denise B., is also accused of financing a terrorist organization for sending thousands of euros to her son while he was in Syria.

Jeffery, who is the only accused under arrest, was captured by the opposition’s Free Syrian Army in 2016 as he sought to leave Syria after contacting French intelligence services. He was extradited to France the next year where he revealed that ISIS was planning to send “Cubs of the Caliphate” to French soil to carry out suicide acts.

On the French soil Jeffrey told French investigators ISIS was also planning to “spread terror in the French countryside” and “target a French nuclear power plant.” He also provided the names of dozens of French people who joined radical group. This could be helpful to Jeffery to receive a shorter term that could reach 30 years in prison.

India-Pakistan
Islamabad’s I-10 suicide bomber got training in Afghanistan, investigation reveals
[Dawn] The jacket wallah, who went kaboom! in the capital last month got trained in Afghanistan before conducting the attack, Dawn has learnt.
So TTP or related?
Sources close to the investigation of the kaboom in the capital’s sector I-10/4 on Dec 23 said that the bomber received his militancy training in Afghanistan in 2022. After the training, he returned from Afghanistan in late 2022 and stayed in Parachinar in Kurram Agency
...home of an intricately interconnected web of poverty, ignorance, and religious fanaticism, where the laws of cause and effect are assumed to be suspended, conveniently located adjacent to Tora Bora...
, they added.

Before reaching the capital on Dec 23, the suicide bomber moved different localities, including Hangu where he stayed with a controller who brought him to the capital in the morning at Pirwadhai Bus Terminal, they added.

The controller watched the bomber board a taxi and later he left from the spot, the sources said.

The investigation revealed that he was wearing a bag pack, carrying the explosives, the sources said, adding it is yet to be established whether the bag was given to him or whether he travelled with it.

After arriving at the terminal, the suicide bomber spoke with someone (considered another controller) on a mobile phone.

The whereabouts of this other person were traced close to the vicinity of the Pirwadhai Bus Terminal and he had been there since the past few days.

The explosive used in the suicide kaboom was Trinitrotoluene (TNT), weighing 12kgs to 14kgs, the sources said, adding that in the past C4 (Composition 4, including RDX) was used to carry out similar attacks by local forces of Evil and terrorists.

The suicide bomber detonated the explosive by removing a pin attached with it, they said, adding that the Sherlocks found the pin at the spot.

The bomber was 22-years-old, a native of Khyber District, they said, adding that he was educated at a seminary.

So far the target of the suicide bomber was yet to be identified, they said.

It may be mentioned here that a police official and taxi driver, hired by the suicide bomber to reach the unknown location were martyred while four coppers were maimed in the kaboom.

4 terrorists killed during intelligence-based operation in Balochistan’s Hoshab: ISPR
[Dawn] Security forces shot full of holes at least four Lions of Islam during an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in Balochistan
...the Pak province bordering Kandahar and Uruzgun provinces in Afghanistan and Sistan Baluchistan in Iran. Its native Baloch propulation is being displaced by Pashtuns and Punjabis and they aren't happy about it...
’s Hoshab, the military’s public affairs wing said on Wednesday.

According to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), an IBO was initiated "to clear a hideout linked with firing incidents on security forces along M-8, in general area Talsar, Hoshab" on a tip-off about the presence of terrorists.

"As a result of continuous intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) of the area, a location of Lions of Islam was identified and security forces were heli inserted [to nab the terrorists]."

The statement said that while the forces were establishing positions to cut off escape routes, four Lions of Islam opened fire on the troops.

Insurgents in Balochistan have also stepped up their violent activities and formalised a nexus with the outlawed Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
During the heavy exchange of fire, all four bad boyz were potted, while a cache of arms and ammunition including improvised bombs (IEDs) was also recovered from their possession, the ISPR added.

A day earlier, Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir visited Balochistan’s Khuzdar and Basima areas where he was briefed on the prevailing security situation and the formation’s operational preparedness, along with measures being taken to ensure a "peaceful and secure environment".

In a statement, the military’s media wing quoted the COAS as saying that the Pakistain Army was aware of the "nefarious designs of external enemies of Pakistain" to disturb the peace in Balochistan.

Over the past few months, the law and order situation in the country has worsened, with terrorist groups executing attacks with near impunity across the country.

Pakistain (TTP).

The year 2022 ended with December as the deadliest month for Pakistain as the country suffered as many as 376 terror attacks in the year that resulted in an increased number of casualties in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.

2 LeT terrorists, who escaped from recent Budgam gunfight, eliminated: Police
[GreaterKashmir
...a disputed territory lying between India and Pakistain. After partition, the Paks grabbed half of it and call it Azad (Free) Kashmir. The remainder they refer to as "Indian Occupied Kashmir". They have fought four wars with India over it, the score currently 4-0 in New Delhi's favor. After 72 years of this nonsense, India cut the Gordian knot in 2019, removing the area's special status, breaking off Ladakh as a separate state, and allowing people from other areas to settle (or in the case of the Pandits, to resettle) there....

LeT masquerades behind the Jamaat-ud-Dawa facade within Pakistain and periodically blows things up and kills people in India. Despite the fact that it is banned, always an interesting concept in Pakistain, the organization remains an blatant tool and perhaps an arm of the ISI...
(LeT) bad boyz were potted in an shootout with the security forces near the District Court Complex in central Kashmir’s Budgam district on Tuesday, Police said.

According to Police, the shootout started after Police and Army tried to stop a suspected vehicle near the District Court Complex.

"Acting on a specific input regarding the movement of terrorists, a joint checkpoint of Police and 62 RR of the Army was set up near the court crossing in Budgam. During the area domination, the joint party signaled a suspected vehicle (JK04B 6771) to stop. However,
alcohol has never solved anybody's problems. But then, neither has milk...
the gunnies onboard jumped from the vehicle and started firing indiscriminately on the joint party which was retaliated effectively, leading to a shootout," a Police front man said in a statement. "During the brief shootout, two gunnies linked with LeT were killed and have been identified as Arbaaz Ahmad Mir of Putrigam, Rajpora and Shahid Ahmad Sheikh of Kisrigam, Kakapora."

The Police front man said that both the gunnies were involved in various terror related crimes.

"As per Police records, both the killed gunnies were categorised gunnies and part of groups involved in several terror crime cases. Both the gunnies escaped earlier from the recent shootout in Budgam," he said. "They were tasked to carry out some sensational terror incident in Budgam district ahead of the forthcoming Republic Day."

The Police front man said that arms and ammunition were also recovered from their possession.

"Incriminating material, arms and ammunition including an AK-47 rifle and a pistol were recovered from the shootout site. All the recovered material has been taken into case records for further investigation," he said.
Alas, no rounds of bullet are mentioned. The grey flannelization of the RAB appears complete.

Palestinian gunman shot dead in attack against troops in southern West Bank — IDF
[IsraelTimes] Paleostinian media identifies attacker as member of PA security services; military suspects Hamdi Abu Dayyah also behind attack against bus near Halhul on Sunday

A Paleostinian gunman who shot up troops in the southern West Bank on Tuesday was rubbed out by troops, the Israel Defense Forces said, adding that he was also suspected of being responsible for another attack two days earlier.

According to the IDF, troops stationed near the Paleostinian town of Halul, not far from Hebron, came under fire by the gunman. He "fired at the forces, who returned fire and neutralized him," the military said.

His death was declared at the scene. No Israeli soldiers were hurt in the attack, the IDF said.

Images from the scene showed the gunman had used a makeshift "Carlo" submachine gun in the attack.

He was named by the Paleostinian Authority Health Ministry as 40-year-old Hamdi Shaker Abdullah Abu Dayyah.

Paleostinian media reports said Abu Dayyah was an officer in the Paleostinian Authority security services.

A supposed will written by Abu Dayyah before the attack was circulated online, in which he wrote he that he was sacrificing his life to protect holy sites and the honor of Islam.

The IDF said it suspected the gunman was responsible for another attack in the area on Sunday afternoon.

In the incident Sunday, a bus carrying Israelis on the Route 60 highway near Halhul came under fire. No injuries were caused after one bullet struck a window near the driver’s seat.

In arrests raids early Tuesday, the IDF said troops arrested 10 wanted Paleostinians across the West Bank, with violent mostly peaceful incidents in some areas.

In the city of Qabatiya, near Jenin, the IDF said troops shot up Paleostinian button men who shot at them, adding that at least one suspect was hit.

The IDF said the 10 Paleostinians who were arrested in the West Bank over suspected terror activities were taken to be questioned by the Shin Bet security agency.

No Israeli soldiers were hurt in the overnight raids, the IDF said.

Israel deports Italian woman detained in West Bank raid
[IsraelTimes] Shin Bet says Stefania Costantini, 50, was involved in the Popular Front for the Liberation of Paleostine terror group, refused to come in for questioning

Israeli authorities said Tuesday they had deported an Italian woman detained in a military raid in the Bethlehem area in the West Bank.

Stefania Costantini was arrested Monday during an incursion by Israeli forces into the Dheisheh refugee camp, the Shin Bet said.

The Shin Bet said Costantini arrived on a tourist visa in May and was suspected of being involved in the Popular Front for the Liberation of Paleostine (PFLP) terror group.
The PFLP is a secular Palestinian revolutionary Marxist–Leninist group founded in 1967 by George Habash. They spent the next six years hijacking airplanes before moving on to other activities.
"Costantini was summoned in September 2022 for interrogation by the Shin Bet, but she did not report (to the authorities) and even continued her activities for the terrorist organization," the agency said in a statement.
Back in the old days, communists went to work alongside the Jews on Israeli kibbutzes. Nowadays they work alongside the Palestinians to eradicate them, instead.
The PFLP has also been designated a terrorist organization by the United States and the European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
After Costantini’s arrest on Monday, she was handed over to Israel’s Population and Immigration Authority, whose spokeswoman told AFP she was deported the same day.

Costantini, 50, said she was beaten by soldiers during her arrest.
Good. She resisted
"I tried to resist and they beat me a lot, they kicked me on the ground," she told AFP from the Italian city of Pisa.
"They were shouting that I was a terrorist," added Costantini, describing herself as a pro-Paleostinian activist muppet.

"When I was in the jeep, they kept kicking my legs with their boots," she said.

The Israeli military did not immediately comment on the allegations when contacted by AFP.

Her expulsion came the same day Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani spoke by phone to Foreign Minister Eli Cohen.

Neither mentioned Costantini’s case in their statements about the call, published on Twitter.
"Keep her. We don't want her back."
"Neither do we."

The Italian consulate in Jerusalem did not respond to an AFP request for comment on Costantini’s deportation.

In Monday’s raid, a 14-year-old Paleostinian was killed, Paleostinian health officials said.

According to the IDF, troops entered the Dheisheh refugee camp to arrest wanted Paleostinians amid a months-long anti-terror effort following a series of terror attacks that killed 31 people in 2022.

"Suspects threw stones, explosives, and Molotov cocktails at the forces, who responded with riot dispersal means and live fire," the IDF said in a statement.

The Paleostinian Authority health ministry said the 14-year-old boy was hit in the head by the gunfire, and described his condition as critical. The ministry later said he had died, and named him as Omar Lutfi Khamour.

French jihadist killed in Syria clashes, his group says

[AnNahar] A French jihadist has been killed fighting Syrian regime forces in northwestern Syria, his faction announced.

a group of foreign jihadists in Syria's last main rebel-held region of Idlib, announced "the martyrdom of one of its heroes... from the French Muhajirin, our brother Abu Hamza".

ese descent suspected of funneling francophone fighters to Syria. He is wanted on a French arrest warrant.
He comes from the Nice region, as it turns out, and as of a few years ago his parents were willing to lie about his death so he could safely leave Syria for major surgery.
In a statement on WhatsApp, the group said Hamza died in the Jabal al-Zawiya area of Idlib during "a military advance of the Assad regime."

Along with the statement, the group published photos of men carrying what appeared to be a body which they put into the earth.

According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a British-based war monitor, Hamza was killed on Sunday during combat with the army of Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
