A Marine patrolling the US- Mexico border claims he was attacked by three unknown assailants while on duty early Wednesday morning
The Marine claimed 'a group of three unknown individuals approached his Mobile Surveillance Camera vehicle, opened the door, and attempted to pull him from the car'.
The violent ambush reportedly occurred seven miles from the southern border, near the city of El Centro, California
There have been no reports of injuries, but a military spokesman says the incident is now under investigation
Around 2100 active duty troops are currently assigned to support the Border Patrol along the US-Mexico border

I can only observe that if you're not armed, you're not patrolling. I fear, though hope otherwise, that this is another modified 'Peace Keeper' effort. The kind where DC sends too many to die , too few to accomplish, tells them 'dress up in those scary, scary clothes and oh, yeah...no bullets for you!'
'During the struggle, the Marine fired his pistol one time, striking the forward-looking infrared display unit mounted on the dash. The attackers fled at that point.'

Perhaps the Orange Man can help to adjust the ROE.

The marine was wjth two other officers. The vehicle broke down. Be was left behind to stay with the disabled vehicle while the other two went for help. He was in a windowless enclosed monitoring part of the vehicle when the three bad guys opened the enclosures door and the confrontation began. They ran when he fired his weapon while they were struggling with him over his weapon.

Fair enough, but there were (reportedly) 3 in the van and 2 walked away - leaving their single buddy behind left in harms way. With the doors unlocked.
#11
Nobody said they walked away. They went to get help or parts for a failed piece of surveillance equipment. The three assailants tried to pull the guy left with the surveillance equipment out of the enclosure. You MIGHT just try reading the article at the above link.

Didn't see those details in Mail article or Breitbart story it links to (pardon my preposition). Irrelevant autobiographical anecdote: There I sat, safe in my own living room... or so I thought.
Unloading. My eyes on patrol.
A doorknob, and... BLAMMO. A hole.
Anxiety wracked me. Aha! It attacked me!
But no one had heard my own goal.
"Couple of vintage glass numbers, I think, and the big brassy sumbitch that gave me this lump. Didn't get a good look, but I'm pretty sure I hit that one. And then they all took off."

[ToloNews] Taliban ...the Pashtun equivalent of men... has once again overrun Bala Murghab district in the northwestern Badghis province nearly one month after the area was retaken by Afghan forces following a 10-day clash late in April.
Bala Murghab is a strategic district in Badghis province, surrounded by some other volatile districts such as Ab Kamari, Muqur, Jawand, and Qadis.
Last time, Bala Murghab came under Taliban attack late in April and early in March and was under siege for more than two weeks, leaving more than two dozens of security forces dead and almost 28 of them gone missing.
Ziauddin Akazai, an MP from Badghis, said on Thursday that the district police headquarters, the main bazaar of Bala Murghab and the building of the district governor have fallen to the Taliban.
According to him, at least 10 security force members were killed and 11 others were maimed in the Taliban’s attacks, which according to him started early on Thursday.
He said government forces control only an army base on the outskirts of the district’s center.
He said the security forces will suffer "severe casualties" if reinforcements are not deployed to the area.
Local officials, however, denied commenting on the issue.
In the meantime, National Directorate of Security ...the Afghan national intel agency... (NDS) said in a statement that at least 62 fighters of Taliban’s so-called ’red division’ were killed in security forces operations in central Maidan Wardak province on Thursday night.
The statement says that eight commanders of the Taliban’s red division were among those killed.
[KhaamaPress] The Afghan Special Forces freed a group of 33 people from a Taliban ...Arabic for students... prison in southern Helmand ...an Afghan province populated mostly by Pashtuns, adjacent to Injun country in Pak Balochistan... province, the provincial government media office said.
According to a statement released by Helmand governor’s compound, the Afghan Special Forces conducted a raid in Kajaki district late on Thursday night.
The statement further added that the Special Forces rescued 33 people from the Taliban prison.
This is not the first the Special Forces have rescued prisoners from a Taliban prison. The Special Forces rescued 32 people from a Taliban prison in Zabul province a day earlier.
This comes as the UN Mission in Afghanistan had earlier expressed grave concerns regarding grave concern about the ill treatment of detainees in Taliban-run prisons. The Talibs forced the detainees for a minimum of seven hours a day of forced labor, including making improvised bombs besides beating and torturing the detainees, the UN Mission said in its latest reported which was released last week.
[KhaamaPress] The security forces carried out separate Arclight airstrikes in Helmand ...an Afghan province populated mostly by Pashtuns, adjacent to Injun country in Pak Balochistan... and Kandahar provinces killing at least 7 Talibs.
"An airstrike in Kajaki district of Helmand province killed 2 Taliban ...the Pashtun equivalent of men... fighters and destroyed 1 vehicle," the informed military sources said Thursday.
The sources further added that the security forces carried out a similar airstrike in Now Zad district of Helmand killing 2 Taliban fighters. "In Now Zad district, a strike killed 2 Taliban fighters," the sources said.
The security forces carried out similar airstrikes in southern Kandahar province. "Airstrikes in Ma’ruf district of Kandahar province killed 3 Taliban fighters and maimed 1," the military sources added.
The anti-government armed bandidosLions of Islam including Taliban have not commented regarding the airstrikes so far.
The security situation in some districts of Both Helmand and Kandahar provinces remain tense. Talibs are active in several restive districts of the two provinces and often attempt to carry out terrorist related activities against the government.
The Afghan forces are busy conducting counter-terrorism operations against Taliban and other armed Lions of Islam in Helmand and Kandahar. The U.S. forces based in Afghanistan also provide air support to Afghan forces during the operations to suppress the anti-government armed elements.
[KhaamaPress] The Taliban ...Arabic for students... and ISIS snuffies clashed with each other in eastern Nangarhar The unfortunate Afghan province located adjacent to Mohmand, Kurram, and Khyber Agencies. The capital is Jalalabad. The province was the fief of Younus Khalis after the Soviets departed and one of his sons is the current provincial Taliban commander. Nangarhar is Haqqani country.. province of Afghanistan on Thursday, the Afghan military said Friday.
The 201st Silab Corps in a statement said the Taliban and ISIS snuffies clashed with each other in Khogyani district on Thursday.
The statement further added that the clash left one ISIS fighter and 5 Talibs dead including a Taliban commander Abdul Rahman.
Aw c’mon, guys, surely great big Lions of Islam like y’all can do better than that!
According to 201st Silab Corps, the clash also left two Talibs maimed.
The anti-government armed snuffies including Taliban and ISIS sympathizers have not commented regarding the infighting so far.
This comes as the security situation in some remote districts of Nangarhar province has tanked during the recent years. Both Taliban and ISIS snuffies are active in remote areas of the province.
In the meantime, the Afghan forces are busy conducting counter-terrorism operations against both groups in this province. The U.S. forces also conduct regular Arclight airstrikes in restive districts of Nangarhar to suppress Taliban and ISIS bully boys.

[ToloNews] A heavy kaboom rocked Kabul city on Friday morning hours after an kaboom near the military academy in the west of Kabul left six people dead.
Nasrat Rahimi, a front man for Ministry of Interior Affairs, told TOLOnews that the kaboom happened in Qala-e-Wazir area in Kabul’s PD9 and that it was a boom-mobile blast.
He said the kaboom happened at around 8:30am.
Eyewitnesses and police sources said the kaboom targeted a foreign forces convoy.
According to sources, five people were maimed in the kaboom.
9:40AM
At least four non-combatants were killed and three others maimed in a boom-mobile blast in Kabul which happened at around 8:30am this morning, the Interior Ministry's front man Nasrat Rahimi confirmed.
US-Forces Afghanistan confirmed that at least four US service members were maimed in the kaboom in Kabul's Qala-e-Wazir area on Friday morning.
The Taliban claimed responsibility for the blast, which came a day after the Islamic State militant group claimed a suicide attack outside a military training academy that killed at least six people.
A spokesman for U.S. Forces in Afghanistan confirmed that a car bomb hit a U.S. convoy and four service members had suffered minor injuries in the explosion but gave no other details.
The blast sent a plume of white smoke into the air and spread debris across the busy Jalalabad road in the city’s east, an area with several large security compounds which has seen repeated attacks over the years.
Witnesses said at least three armored Land Cruiser vehicles were in the convoy, one of which was heavily damaged in the explosion and removed from the scene by crane as Afghan and U.S. troops guarded the scene while firefighters cleaned up.
Kabul has been on high alert in recent days, with security checkpoints reinforced, despite increased diplomatic efforts to open a peace process to end 18 years of war in Afghanistan.
Friday’s attack, shortly before next week’s Eid al-Fitr holiday, came as a delegation of Taliban officials met senior Afghan politicians in Moscow this week for discussions which the main Taliban spokesman said had made good progress.
The Taliban have been talking with U.S. diplomats for several months to agree a withdrawal of more than 20,000 U.S. and NATO coalition troops in exchange for guarantees that Afghanistan would not be used as a base for militant attacks.
[KhaamaPress] The security forces carried out a series of Arclight airstrikes in central Wardak province killing at least 36 bad boys.
The informed military sources said Thursday that the security forces carried out the airstrikes in response to a Taliban ...the Pashtun equivalent of men... attack on a checkpoint of the security forces.
"In Chak-e district, airstrikes killed 36 Taliban fighters attacking a ANDSF checkpoint," the sources added.
In the meantime, the military sources said the security forces carried out airstrikes in Pul-e-Alam district of Pashtun-infested Logar killing at least four Taliban fighters.
The anti-government armed Lions of Islam including Taliban have not commented regarding the airstrikes so far.

"In the blast, 16 people were maimed and six were martyred," Faramarz said.
The attacker "let 'er rip before reaching his target", he added, without providing further details.
The attack happened around noon (0730 GMT), a time when students typically leave school early during the month of Ramazan.
The Afghan IS affiliate said it had carried out the attack and claimed to have killed "50 military trainees".
Opened in 2005 and named after former vice president Mohammed Fahim, the Marshal Fahim academy is modelled after US and British war colleges and trains cadets destined to become officers in Afghanistan’s army.

[Dhaka Tribune] Top yaba smuggler Saiful Karim‐mostly known by initials "SK" among his associates‐has been killed in a reported shootout with police in Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar. "Aaaiiieee! I am undone!"
The incident occurred near the banks of the Naf river, along the boundary wall of Teknaf’s land port, around 3:30am on Friday. "Chief! It's 3:30am!"
"Check your weapons, men!"
The three police personnel injured in the incident are: Sub-Inspector (SI) Russel Ahmed, 35, Constable Imam Hossain, 30, and Constable Md Solaiman, 36. "Ow!"
"Ow!"
"Ow!" Meanwhile, ...back at the shootout, Butch shot Black Bart's gun out of his hand...... police recovered: nine firearms, 43 bullets, 33 shell casings, and 100,000 yaba pills‐worth approximately Tk1.3crore‐from the spot. Not a single shutter gun?"
Saiful was listed, alongside former Awami League MP Abdur Rahman Badi, on the list of 1,151 drug smugglers and dealers that was prepared by the Home Ministry last year. "Ay! He had the death sentence on twelve systems, he did!"
Confirming the matter to Dhaka Tribune, Teknaf cop shoppe Officer-in-Charge (OC) Pradip Kumar Das said: "The yaba kingpin was jugged ... anything you say can and will be used against you, whether you say it or not... by police on charges of arms and drugs. Which one? I'm confused...
"After thorough interrogation, he finally confessed that a large consignment of yaba pills were dispatched from Myanmar near the Teknaf Sadar land port area a few days ago." "Tell Mister Big dat Acey got da stuff!"
He said police conducted a drive in the area, taking Saiful along with them, based on his information. However, there's more than one way to stuff a chicken... when the law enforcement agency members reached the spot, Saiful’s associate drug traders‐lurking there‐opened fired at them, leaving three members of the police injured. "It's Jackie Chan! Run fer yer lives!"
"No! It's da cops!"
[BANG! BANG! BANGETTY BANG!]"
Police fired back at them in self-defence, triggering the shootout. At one point, Saiful was injured by a bullet, but the rest of the yaba smugglers managed to escape, the OC added. Funny, how that works out.
Critically injured, "Sergeant Shafiq! Bring the other half of his head!"
"Yessir! Ewww!"
Saiful was taken to Teknaf Upazila Health Complex but the on-duty doctors referred him to Cox’s Bazaar Sadar Hospital for better treatment. "Doctor Quincy, to the white courtesy phone!" However, there's more than one way to stuff a chicken... the on-duty doctor at the hospital declared him dead on arrival. "He's dead, Jim!"

[Rudaw] The Committee on Disputed Territories in the Kurdistan Region Government’s [KRG] parliament called for the end of the "militarized state of Kirkuk" on Friday, and asked that Peshmerga forces return to stabilize the areas in a joint effort with the Iraqi army.
Sorry - I had no idea what a dunam was. It turns out 1000 of them is about 247 acres or a little under 1/2 a sq mile.
The statement comes as tensions between Kurds and Arabs have escalated over a series of fires set to farms on territory claimed by both the KRG and the federal government.
The implementation of article 140 of the Iraqi constitution--to conduct a census and a referendum in the disputed territories-- would "fundamentally resolve all the problems of the area", said the committee. The statement also called for the removal of the current acting governor of Kirkuk and other officials who were appointed by then Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi, rather than through official elections.

[IsraelTimes] Arson balloons spark three fires inside Israel; 7,000 Paleostinians protest along Gazoo border with hundreds rioting, 11 maimed.
The head of the Paleostinian Islamic Jihad ...created after many members of the Egyptian Moslem Brotherhood decided the organization was becoming too moderate. Operations were conducted out of Egypt until 1981 when the group was exiled after the assassination of President Anwar Sadat. They worked out of Gaza until they were exiled to Lebanon in 1987, where they clove tightly to Hezbollah. In 1989 they moved to Damascus, where they remain a subsidiary of Hezbollah... in Gazoo warned Friday that terror groups in the Strip have the ability to fire 1,000 rockets a day into Israel for a month and have some missiles that can carry a half-ton explosive warhead.
Speaking in an interview with the Lebanese Hezbollah’s al-Manar television station, Ziad Nakhaleh said that his group and Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, were improving their capabilities on a daily basis, giving the large warheads as an example.
"In the last round of fighting we restrained ourselves and only fired 700 rockets into Israel over two days," Nakhaleh said, adding that they also held back from targeting some cities deep in Israel.
"In the next round of fighting, we will not only fire at Tel Aviv, but at all the cities, whatever may happen," he said, claiming they could sustain a rate of fire of 1,000 rockets per day for a full month. "Kill us now"
A tense calm has prevailed since the weekend of violence at the beginning of the month, during which Hamas and Paleostinian Islamic Jihad fired nearly 700 rockets at Israel.
Three fires were started Friday by the incendiary devices, including a blaze in the Be’eri Forest near the Gazoo border. Fire fighters were working to get it under control.
Some 7,000 Paleostinians gathered along the border in five places Friday, with some rioting and throwing rocks and bombs at Israeli troops who responded with tear gas and occasional live fire.
The Hamas-run Gazoo health ministry said 11 people were maimed.
[IsraelTimes] Police allow prayers for final Friday of month of Ramadan to go ahead despite a Paleostinian assailant stabbing and wounding two Israelis in Jerusalem’s Old City.
Hundreds of thousands of Moslems took part in the final Friday prayers of Ramadan at the al-Aqsa Mosque in the Old City of Jerusalem, as Israel heightened security following a Paleostinian stabbing attack.
The Jerusalem Islamic Waqf organization which administers the site, the third holiest site in Islam, said in total 260,000 worshipers gathered for the lunchtime prayers.
The prayers came only hours after a Paleostinian teenager stabbed two Israelis inside the Old City before being rubbed out by Israeli police.
In a separate incident, another Paleostinian teenager was rubbed out by Israeli forces in the West Bank as he sought to breach the security barrier and sneak into Jerusalem, reportedly to pray at al-Aqsa.
In Jerusalem, a 19-year-old Paleostinian stabbed one Israeli near Damascus Gate and another near Jaffa Gate on the other side of the walled Old City, police front man Mickey Rosenfeld said.
One of the Israelis, a man in his 40s, was in a critical condition with knife wounds to the neck and the other, 16-year-old Yisrael Meir Nachumberg, was stabbed in his back.
"Police units that responded at the scene saw the attacker with a knife. The attacker was shot and killed," Rosenfeld said.
The Paleostinian health ministry later named him as Yusef Wajih from Abwein village in the central West Bank.
A video released by police showed a man running through the streets and stabbing two Orthodox Jews.
After the latest attack on Friday, gates to the Old City were briefly sealed before being reopened as thousands thronged towards the mosque. Inside the mostly uncovered mosque compound, water was sprayed on worshipers to keep them cool in the baking Jerusalem sun, with temperatures approaching 40°C (104°F).
Despite a heavy police presence, there were no reports of further incidents.
Rosenfeld said increased security presence would "continue throughout the afternoon and evening."
[IsraelTimes] Incident near Bethlehem comes hours after Jerusalem terror attack and amid heightened Ramadan tensions.
A Palestinian teenager was shot dead by Israeli forces in the West Bank on Friday, the Palestinian health ministry said. In a statement, the ministry said Abdullah Ghaith, 16, “died after he was shot by Israeli occupation soldiers close to Bethlehem and his heart and lungs were penetrated.” Another man, 21, was shot in the stomach at the same location and was being treated in hospital, the ministry said.
Israeli police said that the Palestinian teenager was shot while attempting to climb over the heavily guarded security barrier from Bethlehem into Jerusalem. The police added that they were launching a probe into the incident.
“The two of ‘em thought they were too good to use the gate like everyone else, Sarge, so they got themselves shot.”
“Hokay, Yossi. Put that in your report and I’ll sign off on it.”
The boy’s father, Louai Ghaith, said his son had been trying to enter Jerusalem to pray at Al-Aqsa Mosque on the last Friday of Ramadan. Ghaith’s body was brought to a Bethlehem hospital, where his distraught family identified the body.
“He was going to fulfill his religious duty, he was going to worship,” Ghaith said. “They killed him… with a bullet to his heart, like a game, and 16 years I’ve been raising him.” He fulfilled his religious duty, dying like a martyr coward in the dirt
Earlier on Friday, a Palestinian man was detained at the Qalandiya checkpoint near Jerusalem after security forces found a knife in his possession.

The article in TOI seems written by some kind of non-committal Paleo sympathizers. Israeli govt. should discourage this equivocal kind of wording when describing enemies of the Israeli State. Why does anybody need to know Abdullah's father or whatever the fuck he thinks ?

Israel has serious freedom of the press, Dron66046. For the full leftwing experience, try Haaretz, which proudly calls itself the New York Times of Israel. Israel National News is on the right. The three sources I usually use — The Times of Israel, Ynet News, and the Jerusalem Post — are more center-right in my opinion.
As for that Palestinian father, I often don’t bother including such things. But the quote provided Frank G. a perfect set-up to snark, thus fulfilling a higher purpose. ;-)

Ewold Horn, a wildlife photographer, was shot by his guards from the Abu Sayyaf ...also known as al-Harakat al-Islamiyya, an Islamist terror group based in Jolo, Basilan and Zamboanga. Since its inception in the early 1990s, the group has carried out bombings, kidnappings, murders, head choppings, and extortion in their uniquely Islamic attempt to set up an independent Moslem province in the Philippines. Abu Sayyaf forces probably number less than 300 cadres. The group is closely allied with remnants of Indonesia's Jemaah Islamiya and has loose ties with MILF and MNLF who sometimes provide cannon fodder... group when he tried to flee during a clash between government troops and the Death Eaters, said Brigadier General Divino Rey Pabayo, commander of a Joint Task Force on Sulu island.
Horn and a fellow photographer, Lorenzo Vinciguerra from Switzerland ...home of the Helvetians, famous for cheese, watches, yodeling, and William Tell... , were taken captive as they were sailing off an island called Tawi Tawi on a bird-watching trip more than seven years ago and later taken to Sulu. Vinciguerra escaped in 2014.
Dutch Foreign Minister Stef Blok said the Netherlands had informed Horn’s family.
"I am shocked by this terrible outcome", Blok said, "I have been in contact with the family. I will ask my counterpart in the Philippines for further clarification."
Six snuffies were also killed in the firefight in the town of town of Patikul on Sulu, Pabayo said. The circumstances of the firefight were not immediately clear.
Also killed during the clash on Friday was Mingayan Sahiron, the wife of Radullan Sahiron, a big shot of the Abu Sayyaf, the military said.
Radullan Sahiron is on a U.S. State Department wanted list with a $1 million reward for his capture since his involvement in the kidnapping of U.S. tourists in 2001.
He was believed to have escaped the clash, another military front man said.
The Abu Sayyaf, a small but violent group in the Moslem south of the largely Catholic Philippines, has been known for extortion, kidnappings, beheadings and bombings, and has pledged allegiance to Islamic State snuffies in Iraq and Syria.
It earlier pledged allegiance to the al Qaeda Death Eater group.
