Chicago shooting: 3 dead, at least 22 injured
[Iran Press TV] Deadly shootings have claimed the lives of three people and injured at least 22 others since Friday in the most dangerous American city, reliably Democrat Chicago, aka The Windy City or Mobtown
... home of Al Capone, a succession of Daleys, Barak Obama, and Rahm Emmanuel,...
.
A 28-year-old man, identified as William Lewis, was the victim of the most recent fatal shooting which happened Saturday afternoon in the 1300 block of West Devon Avenue.

Police say he was shot in the back and taken to Presence Saint Francis Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
He's dead, Jim!
Police said he may have been killed due to gang-related issues.

Another shooting took place in a Lawn neighborhood apartment on the Southwest Side. The domestic-related incident seriously injured a 50-year-old woman and claimed the life of her son early Saturday.

A 47-year-old man opened fire on a woman and her son in their apartment in the 6200 block of South Rockwell Street after an argument. The 27-year-old son was dead at the scene of the shooting and his mother was sent to Mount Sinai Hospital. Police say the woman is at death's door.

Chicago is one of the most dangerous cities in the US with very high gun deaths. According to FBI crime statistics released in late 2013, the city registered more homicides in 2012 than New York City.s

Bangladesh
Khaleda: Movement only option left
[Dhaka Tribune] BNP Chairperson the loathesome Khaleda Zia
Three-term PM of Bangla, widow of deceased dictator Ziaur Rahman, head of the Bangla Nationalist Party, an apparent magnet for corruption ...
said there was no option left except for waging a movement if the government did not take initiative to hold talks over the non-partisan interim government at an iftar party in a city hotel yesterday.

"There is no representative government in the country, and a country cannot run like this. Even the government has no interest in holding talks to resolve the crisis. We want to say clearly: if the government does not take the initiative to resolve the crisis, we do not have any other option except launching a movement," she said.

Khaleda said the government was not paying any heed to their demand, adding: "People's fundamental rights have been violated in every step. They have no security, and killing and abduction has become regular phenomena."

Criticising the incumbent parliament, Khaleda said: "No public issue is discussed in the parliament; rather, singing and reciting poems take place there. It has turned into the members' gossip place."

Caucasus/Russia/Central Asia
Russia warns Ukraine of 'irreversible consequences' after cross-border shelling
[Washington Post] Russia on Sunday accused Ukraine of the cross-border shelling death of a Russian civilian, warning of "irreversible consequences" in a sharp escalation of rhetoric that raised fears in Ukraine of an imminent Russian intervention in the east.

The accusation, which Ukrainian security officials denied, set off furious recriminations in Russia, with one senior politician calling for pinpoint Arclight airstrikes on Ukrainian soil of the sort he said Israel was currently making against the Gazoo Strip.

Ukrainian security officials meanwhile said that around 100 military vehicles driven by "mercenaries" had attempted to cross the border from Russia early Sunday morning, and that Ukraine's military had destroyed some of the vehicles.

Russian officials summoned the Ukrainian charge d'affaires to the foreign ministry in Moscow to protest the civilian's death, which they say occurred when the Ukrainian army shelled Russia's Rostov region from across the border, hitting a residential building.

China-Japan-Koreas
South Korea says US exercise non-negotiable despite North's missiles
[THEAUSTRALIAN.AU] North Korea fired two short-range missiles into the sea Sunday, Seoul's military said, in an apparent show of anger at an upcoming joint military exercise between South Korea and the United States.

The North fired the two ballistic missiles into the East Sea (Sea of Japan) at 1:20 and 1:30am local time, the South's defence ministry front man said.

"Their range appeared to be around 500 kilometres (311 miles)," he said, adding Seoul's military had stepped up monitoring for additional launches.

The move — the latest in a series of similar launches in recent weeks — came a day after Pyongyang condemned an upcoming Seoul-Washington naval joint exercise.

The annual drill, from July 16-21, involves the US aircraft carrier George Washington, which arrived in the southern port of Busan on Friday.

The North bristled Saturday at the nuclear-powered carrier visiting the port, calling it a "reckless" act of provocation.

"The US should properly understand that the more persistently it resorts to reckless nuclear blackmail and threat, the further (the North) will bolster up its cutting-edge nuclear force for self-defence," said the North's top military body, the National Defence Commission.

The North has habitually slammed joint military exercises south of the border and often responded with missile test-launches.

Citi, U.S. $7 billion settlement announcement expected Monday
[REUTERS] Citigroup agreed to pay $7 billion to resolve a U.S. government investigation into shoddy mortgage-backed securities the bank sold in the run-up to the 2008 financial crisis in a settlement set to be announced on Monday, sources said.

The $7 billion includes $4 billion in cash to the U.S. Department of Justice, $2.5 billion in consumer relief, more than $200 million to the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation and just under $300 million to settle probes by five states, said sources familiar with the negotiations.

Spokespeople for the Justice Department and the bank declined comment. Representatives of attorneys general of New York, Delaware, Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party,, Massachusetts and Illinois, the states said to be involved, did not immediately return requests for comment. Nor did the FDIC.

The settlement, signed over the weekend, caps months of negotiations, during which the government demanded $12 billion and threatened to sue Citigroup, according to the sources.

So DoJ just became independent of Congress. Meanwhile the FDIC gets a paltry $200 million to cover what in billions were paid out to depositors of those folded banks caught with the bad paper 5 years ago. While that money went out, the FDIC then stuck banks (and anyone thinking of getting interest on their deposits) with higher stiffer insurance fees (and leveraging their power to classify banks 'at risk' if they dared to have accounts from gun shops/dealers, adult film/video actresses, et al).

Military plane shot down by rocket in eastern Ukraine as fighting intensifies
[FOXNEWS] A Ukrainian military transport plane was shot down Monday along the country's eastern border with Russia as fighting between government forces and pro-Russian rebels intensified.

The Ukrainian military stepped up efforts to retake more territory in the city of Luhansk from the weakening insurgency, the Ukrainian Defense Ministry said Monday. Government defense officials said their troops have taken control of several villages on the fringe of Luhansk and reopened a corridor to the airport.

Luhansk resident, Sergei-- who declined to give his last name due to fears of reprisal—told the News Agency that Dare Not be Named that panic had gripped the city Monday due to reports that Ukrainian paratroopers were intermittently entering the city center and detaining rebel fighters. Exit points from the city have been blocked and Lions of Islam are confiscating cars and belongings from residents attempting to flee, Sergei said.

Rebels immediately grabbed credit for downing an Antonov-26 plane but Ukrainian Defense Minister Valeriy Heletey said the rocket may have been fired from Russia.

The border crisis isn't Obama's Katrina -- it's worse
"Bush's approach to Katrina was criticized by his allies and opponents alike, and some of that criticism was deserved, but he never treated the situation in New Orleans as though it was a political opportunity. That is a grotesque abuse of the public trust, but this seems to be the calculation the president and his advisors made."

#5  Reagan cut a deal with the devil and agreed to amnesty for those illegals that were here. One of his great mistakes thinking that he could trust the Donks and that would be the end of it. The trouble with allowing illegals to enter this country and stay is that: 1) It is not fair to those who are going through the legal process, and 2) It is a poison pill that continues draining this country forever. Securing the border should be a priority for any president; it is a matter of sovereignty and national security--two Constitutional duties of any president.
