Europe
Migrant integration has failed and created parallel societies and gang violence, Swedish PM admits
[Daily Mail, Where America Gets Its News]
  • Sweden accepted the most migrants per capita in the EU in 2015 crisis

  • Magdalena Andersson said Islamism and extremism have since festered

  • She said: 'We live in the same country but in completely different realities'

  • Violent riots erupted in Sweden this month after a politician burned a Quran
'Segregation has been allowed to go so far that we have parallel societies in Sweden. We live in the same country but in completely different realities,' Andersson told a news conference.

Sweden, which holds a general election later this year, has radically tightened its immigration policies since the migrant influx in 2015.

It now has one of the bloc's most restrictive policies.

The number of people in Sweden born abroad has doubled in the last two decades to 2 million, or a fifth of the population.

Andersson's Social Democrats have been in power for 28 of the last 40 years, including the last eight.

In the riots this month, more than 100 police were maimed and dozens were arrested after festivities with police which saw cars and buses torched.

The rallies were sparked by anti-immigration and anti-Islam group Hard Line, led by the Danish-Swedish politician Rasmus Paludan.

Paludan, a lawyer and a YouTuber who intends to stand in Swedish legislative elections in September but does not yet have the necessary number of signatures to secure his candidature, is currently on a 'tour' of Sweden.

The 40-year-old is visiting neighbourhoods with large Moslem populations where he wants to burn copies of the Moslem holy book Koran as Moslems observe the holy month of Ramadan.

Rocket Lab is ready to catch a rocket booster with a helicopter.
[FoxWeather] With every rocket launch, millions of dollars in hardware are used just once. Rocket Lab is looking to join companies like SpaceX, re-flying its rocket boosters multiple times to drive down launch costs, but the two space companies are going about it differently.

On Friday, Rocket Lab plans to fully test its method of retrieving a rocket booster after launch by catching it using a helicopter and parachute system. It will be the first end-to-end test of this recovery technique for the California-based company that launches in New Zealand.

Here's the set-up: The Electron rocket will launch from New Zealand's Mahia Peninsula, carrying 34 ride-sharing satellites to orbit.

After separation, the booster or bottom half of the rocket will begin returning to Earth, performing a series of complex maneuvers to allow it to survey the extreme heat as it re-enters Earth's atmosphere.

A parachute will then deploy from the booster, slowing Electron down enough to allow Rocket Lab's Sikorsky helicopter to catch the parachute.

What will it look like: Besides the usual awe of a launch, Rocket Lab also plans to have a camera on the booster and provide views from the rocket as it returns. The company said this feed might cut out, but that will be a wild view if the video stays up.

When is it happening: Rocket Lab is targeting 6:35 p.m. ET on Friday (10:35 a.m. NZST, April 30) to launch the mission called "There and Back Again."

A live stream of the launch will begin about 20 minutes prior on YouTube.

Haifa teen stabber was motivated by death of Palestinian boyfriend – report
[IsraelTimes] Police say 15-year-old told interrogators she was angered by Temple Mount festivities, wanted ’to die a martyr’
Suicide by IDF.
A teenage girl who stabbed a man in Haifa two weeks ago was reportedly seeking to avenge the death of her Paleostinian boyfriend, who died of wounds he sustained while attempting to attack Israeli security forces in Jenin.

The 15-year-old Arab Israeli told police Sherlocks that she became motivated to carry out the attack on April 15 after the young man she was romantically involved with died of his wounds that morning, the Walla news site reported Thursday.

Police said she was angered by videos on social media showing festivities atop the Temple Mount, which her father told an Israeli news network had incited her to violence.

"During her interrogation, the suspect stated that she committed the act under the influence of social media and that she wanted to carry out the attack in order to die as a martyr," police said Thursday.

The girl, who has not been named because she is a minor, appeared at the Haifa Magistrate’s Court on Thursday and had her remand extended until Monday. She is expected to be formally indicted in the coming days.

At least 25 Paleostinians have been killed in festivities with Israeli soldiers during raids in the West Bank in recent weeks, including 17-year-old Shawkat Kamal Abed, from Kafr Dan, who was critically hurt on April 14 during festivities with Israeli troops in the town near Jenin, according to Paleostinian media reports.

Before the stabbing, the teenage girl’s father informed police that his daughter said she intended to carry out an attack.

According to law enforcement officials, the girl approached a 47-year-old man at HaZikaron Garden, adjacent to Haifa’s city hall, and hit him on the back of the head with a brick, then stabbed him in the hand and leg as he fell to the ground.

Officers, who were searching for her with her father, arrived at the scene and arrested her with the knife still in her hand "seconds after the terror attack," police officials said. According to police, two more knives were found in a nearby bag belonging to the girl that she allegedly intended to use.

The victim, also a local, was released a day after the attack from Rambam Medical Center. The hospital said he suffered several superficial wounds that did not require surgery.

According to Hebrew-language media reports, the suspect’s father had previously assisted the IDF and Shin Bet but moved with his family from a village near the West Bank city of Tulkarem to Haifa after his identity was exposed several years ago.

He also reportedly has a son and is raising his children alone following the death of his wife.

IAEA chief says Iran producing centrifuge parts underground at Natanz nuclear site
[IsraelTimes] Iran
...Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979...
has set up a new underground facility for producing uranium-enriching centrifuge parts at its Natanz nuclear site, UN nuclear watchdog chief Rafael Grossi says.

Grossi has informed ineffective International Atomic Energy Agency members of the development, Rooters reports.

The old workshop for making such equipment had been located at the Karaj nuclear site, which Iran claims was targeted by Israel last year.
The White House said Tuesday that Iran’s nuclear breakout time, meaning the period it would need to amass the fissile material needed to build a bomb if it chose to do so, was down to only weeks. The US continues to insist a diplomatic solution is the best path forward.

The nuclear deal had Iran put advanced centrifuges into storage under the watch of the IAEA, while keeping its enrichment at 3.67% purity and its stockpile at only 300 kilograms (661 pounds) of uranium.

As of February 19, the IAEA says Iran’s stockpile of all enriched uranium was nearly 3,200 kilograms (7,055 pounds). Some have been enriched up to 60% purity — a short technical step from weapons-grade levels of 90%. Meanwhile, Iran has stopped the IAEA from accessing some of its surveillance camera footage.

9 killed, 13 Wounded in Two Blasts in Balkh
[ToloNews] At least nine people were killed and 13 others were maimed in two blasts occurring on Thursday evening in Mazar-e-Sharif of Balkh province, security officials said.

Both blasts targeted public transportation.

A front man for the Balk security department said that the blasts were due to explosives placed in vehicles.

Provincial health officials confirmed hospitals had received bodies of the slain and were treating the maimed.
The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) or Daesh has claimed accountability for two bomb blasts in Mazar-e-Sharif city of the northern Balkh province that killed at least nine and injured 13 more civilians.

The terror group has claimed 30 people to be affected after the explosions.

The Two explosions took place only minutes before people break their fast and at a time when commuters were rushing home to do so.

Asif Waziri, spokesperson of the city’s police said the target is apparently Shiite people.

based on the information of Waziri, one IED hit a van while the second one exploded in a van station in Police District three of the city.

This comes only a week after ISIS targeted a mosque named Sih Dokan in the northern Afghan city killing and injuring tens of Shiite worshipers.

University suicide bomber claims his wife was "mentally ill".

At least four people, including three Chinese nationals, were killed while four others were maimed in a suicide kaboom outside the University of Karachi's Confucius Institute two days ago.

CCTV footage of the attack showed a burqa-clad woman standing outside the entrance of the Confucius Institute. The woman detonated herself just as the van neared the institute's entrance.

The banned Baloch Liberation Army had later grabbed credit for the attack.

Investigators identified the bomber as Shari Baloch, a married mother of two. On Wednesday, CTD official Raja Umar Khattab said that her husband, who he identified as Dr Haibatan, was missing and that raids were being carried out to find him and other controllers.

Addressing a presser in Quetta today, Rind confirmed that the husband had been arrested by law enforcement and that he made the revelation of his wife's mental state in the course of interrogation.

She quoted the husband as saying his wife was receiving medication for her mental illness.

Rind said "external forces" were attempting to involve Baloch people in anti-national activities in a "cowardly attempt" to discredit and portray the community in a bad light. "The Baloch nation won't be affected by such hostile conspiracies," she vowed.

China-Japan-Koreas
South Korea arrests businessman, army captain on spying charges
[DW] The South Korean captain allegedly received a wristwatch with a spy camera to help him steal information. Both the captain and the businessman were paid in cryptocurrency, according to South Korean police.

A North Korea
...hereditary Communist monarchy distinguished by its truculence and periodic acts of violence. Distinguishing features include Songun (Army First) policy, which involves feeding the army before anyone but the Dear Leadership, and Juche, which is Kim Jong Il's personal interpretation of Marxism-Leninism, which he told everybody was brilliant. In 1950 the industrialized North invaded agrarian South Korea. Twenty-one countries of the United Nations eventually contributed to the UN force opposing the invasion, with the United States providing around 90% of the military personnel. Seventy years later the economic results are in and it doesn't look good for Juche...
n agent recruited two people and paid them cryptocurrency in a bid to gain access to a South Korean military system, South Korean police said on Thursday.

The police said they arrested two people on spying charges, both of them South Korean nationals. One of them was identified as a businessman who had been running a cryptocurrency exchange, while the other was an army captain.

Authorities said both individuals knew that they were communicating with a North Korean agent. The whereabouts of the agent remain unknown.

PYONGYANG TARGETS SOUTH KOREA'S COMMAND NETWORK
According to the police, the agent and the 38-year-old businessman first made contact in an online cryptocurrency community six years ago. The North Korean agent approached the 29-year-old army captain separately, authorities say.

The agent seemed to be interested in the Joint Command and Control System, South Korea's confidential military network.

The entrepreneur allegedly bought a wristwatch equipped with a hidden camera and sent it to the captain, but — despite the military officer's bringing the device to the base — he relied on his smartphone instead, police said. The authorities also believe the businessman was planning to use a USB hacking device, the AP news agency said citing a statement from the Korean National Police Agency.

The businessman is said to have attempted to bribe a different military officer in exchange for secrets, but the officer rejected the proposal.

OVER HALF A MILLION DOLLARS IN CRYPTOCURRENCY
Investigators claim that North Korea used cryptocurrency as a means of payment to the South Koreans, transferring an equivalent of 700 million won (roughly $550,000 or €520,000) to the crypto entrepreneur and giving the army captain another 48 million won.

South Korean authorities said North Korea failed to gain access to the Joint Command and Control system. However,
a good lie finds more believers than a bad truth...
the captain is believed to have passed on login information for the network, as well as some images of its website and military security guidelines.

Both South Korean nationals have been indicted under the country's strict National Security Act.

-Land of the Free
The Ministry of Truth Is Real
[Red State] Things got pretty weird, pretty quickly in the wake of Elon Musk’s trial balloon about buying Twitter, a deal that went through Monday, much to the chagrin of the progressive chattering class who were super duper certain the Tesla and SpaceX boy genius was just foolin’ for fun.

Poor NPR, for example, forced to aggregate what Musk might actually do with his new toy (and, to be fair, they pulled from his own public statements), characterizes the sale this way:

"[T]he world’s richest person who has a penchant for theatrics and erratic behavior is about to have the power to reshape discourse on a social network used by more than 200 million people every day."

They’re not handling it very well.

Hence, the new federally-run truth commission, brought to you courtesy of Homeland Security.

The Biden administration and progressive activists (including former President Obama) sprang into action following Monday’s announcement and — quite literally — began the process of defining disinformation and calling for its regulation to make sure bad speech was addressed and eliminated from the collective safe space.

Syrian regime, Rojava end recent sieges on neighborhoods
There’s a cute little map at the link from GoogleMaps that I suppose is informative.
[Rudaw] The Syrian regime and Kurdish authorities in northeast Syria (Rojava) reached an agreement on Thursday to put an end to the sieges they recently imposed on each other’s neighborhoods, an informed source told Rudaw.

Last month, the regime prevented the import of flour, fuel, medicine and other essentials like children’s milk into the Kurdish-held neighborhoods of Sheikh Maqsood and Ashrafiya in the country’s northwest Aleppo province. In return, the Kurdish security forces imposed a siege on regime-held areas in Qamishli, sparking protests by the residents of both areas.

Ibrahim Shekho, spokesperson for the Afrin-based Human Rights Organization, has been closely monitoring the situation. He told Rudaw English late Thursday that Kurdish officials told him they had reached an agreement to end all sieges.

"As a result, 32 tons of flour were imported. More will be imported tomorrow. The siege was on flour, fuel, medicine, and other needs. People were allowed to carry only a limited amount of money when leaving the neighborhoods," he said.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) also reported the agreement between the regime and Kurdish officials.

Shekho added that the ban has been removed on everything, and that the situation has returned to as it was before, nearly a month ago when the regime sieges began.

He lives in nearby Shahba camp which has previously suffered from sieges by the regime. The camp is home to hundreds of thousands of internally displaced people (IDPs) who fled the Ottoman Turkish invasion of their hometown of Afrin in 2018.

The Sheikh Maqsood and Ashrafiya neighborhoods have been run by a Kurdish administration linked to the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (NES) since 2019. Some 18,000 families - including Afrin IDPs - live there, according to the North Press Agency.

The Syrian regime has administrative, service and intelligence offices in the Kurdish-held city of Qamishli where the regime and Kurdish forces have clashed several times in recent years.

Kurdish Internal Security Forces (Asayish) entered the regime-held neighborhoods, later clarifiying that its intention was not to control it but to conduct "extensive security measures" in response to the regime siege on Sheikh Maqsood.

Suspected IS gunmen kill 7 Syrians at Ramadan iftar meal
[AlAhram] Suspected Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group button men have attacked a Ramadan gathering hosted by a former official of a US-backed group in eastern Syria, killing seven and wounding four, opposition activists said Thursday.

The Wednesday night attack in the Abu Khashab area in Deir el-Zour province targeted the home of a former front man with the US backed Syrian Democratic Forces, according to the Britannia-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights and Euphrates Post news website.

Euphrates Post said the button men arrived on cycle of violences and opened fire as the group was having an iftar, the fast-breaking meal during the Moslem holy month of Ramadan at the home of former SDF front man Nouri Hameesh, who was among those killed.

Three years after IS lost the last sliver of territory it controlled, its sleeper cells have been increasing attacks in recent months, mainly targeting the Kurdish-led SDF but also forces from the Syrian government.
The attack took place on Wednesday night in the Abu Khashab area in Deir ez-Zor province and targeted the residence of the head of public relations of the province’s civil council, reported the UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR).

Victor Davis Hanson: Tearing Down The Silicon Valley Wall
[ZERO] Abruptly leftists began trashing their favorite electronic communications platform as the domain of the nation's elite, professional classes. Had they just discovered that they had been racists and privileged users all this time?

And what happened to the Left's former worship of Musk as the man who revolutionized the clean, green automobile industry with his Tesla electric car company?

Or Musk the space revolutionary and hip star trekker, who with his own money helped ensure the United States remains preeminent in space exploration?

Or Musk, the patriot who is providing free next-generation internet service to the underdog Ukrainians fighting Russians for their lives?

No matter. The Left reviles Musk because he has announced that Twitter will be the one social-media platform whose business is not to censor or massage free speech in an otherwise monopolist, intolerant, and hard-Left Silicon Valley.

Who knows, Musk might even allow former president Donald Trump to communicate on Twitter - in the fashion that the terrorist Taliban, Iranian theocrats, and violent Antifa protesters all take for granted in their daily access to Twitter.

But how did the once free-speech, anti-trust, let-it-all-hang out Left become a Victorian busybody, a censorious Soviet, and an old-fashioned robber-baron monopoly?

When it discovered that few Americans wanted left-wing, socialist politics it turned elsewhere. It found power instead through control of American institutions, from academia and Wall Street to traditional and social media.

When Musk merely talked about buying Twitter, the Left shrieked that an outlier multibillionaire owning a media - and especially a social media - venue was unfair. The buyout was supposedly "dangerous" and "a threat to democracy."

Ethiopia denies Tigrayan forces pulled out of Afar region
[Garowe] The Æthiopian government said on Thursday that rebellious Tigrayan forces are still in the neighboring region of Afar, despite a front man for the Tigrayan forces announcing their withdrawal days earlier.

Government spokesperson Legesse Tulu told state media that the news that Tigrayan forces had left Afar were "big lies."

Afar Police Commissioner Ahmed Harif told Rooters on Thursday that Tigrayan forces were still in four districts bordering Tigray - Koneba, Abala, Berhale, and Magale - and had not moved since Monday.

Getachew Reda, the front man for the Tigray People's Liberation Front (TPLF), the party that controls Tigray, did not respond to requests for comment. On Monday, he told Rooters Tigrayan forces were leaving Afar.

The Tigrayan forces said they were withdrawing so humanitarian convoys could enter. Only a trickle of aid has made it into famine-hit Tigray, where more than 90% of the population needs food aid since the Æthiopian military withdrew at the end of June.

The United Nations
...the Oyster Bay money pit...
has blamed government bureaucracy and fighting for blocking convoys.

Tigrayan forces have been fighting the central government since November 2020, when conflict erupted between the two sides. Tigrayan leaders accuse Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed of wanting to centralize power at the expense of the regions; he accuses them of wanting to regain national power, which they lost when he was appointed in 2018.

On March 25 the federal government announced a unilateral ceasefire, saying it would allow humanitarian aid to enter.

Tigrayan forces agreed to respect the ceasefire on the condition that sufficient aid was delivered to their region "within a reasonable time".

Since the ceasefire was declared, 145 tracks have made it into Tigray, according to the U.N. World Food Programme. At least 100 per day are needed, the United Nations says.

Nigeria struggles to tame banditry ravaging northwest
[AlAhram] When dozens of button men raided Abubakar Aliyu's village in central Nigeria two weeks ago, they stormed in on cycle of violences, each carrying one or two attackers who opened fire and chased down residents.

By the time security forces arrived, more than 100 villagers were dead and scores of homes destroyed after button men targeted four villages simultaneously, residents and local officials said.

Aliyu escaped the Sunday morning attack with workers on his construction site, but not before he and others were shot and one colleague killed.

Bosnian ex-general sentenced for jihadists' war crimes
[AlAhram] A retired Bosnian Moslem forces general was sentenced to eight years in prison on Thursday for war crimes committed by foreign jihadists during Bosnia's brutal 1990s conflict.

Sakib Mahmuljin, 69, was tried for his role at the top of the command chain of imported muscle that executed more than 50 Bosnian Serb prisoners of war in Vozuca and Zavidovici in the northeast of the country.

Mahmuljin was at the time commander of the 3rd corps of the Bosnian army, composed mainly of local Moslems.

The crime was carried out by the "El Moudjahid" unit attached to his corps, which was made up of hundreds of mainly foreign jihadists from Africa, the Middle East, and some Western countries who joined forces with Bosnian Moslems.

Mahmuljin was found guilty by a Sarajevo appeals court of "war crimes against maimed and sick people" and "against prisoners of war", including "murder" and "inhumane treatment".

As a commander, he "failed to prevent" these crimes from being committed and "knew or had every reason to know" that members of this unit were preparing to commit crimes, the court said.

The verdict is final and Mahmuljin can no longer appeal.

This is one of the few convictions of former senior Bosnian military officials for crimes committed by foreign jihadists during the Bosnian intercommunal conflict that killed nearly 100,000 people between 1992 and 1995.

The war crimes in question took place between July and October 1995, in the wake of two Bosnian offensives.

The "El Moudjahid" unit had acquired a sinister reputation because of the crimes committed against Bosnian Serb or Bosnian Croat prisoners of war.

Most of the Islamist fighters left the country after the war under pressure from the United States, which at the end of 1995 hosted the negotiations on the Dayton peace agreement which effectively ended the conflict.

Afghanistan - Iraq burn pit update
[Breitbart] Rep. Ted Budd (R-NC) sent a letter to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) on Thursday urging her to stand up for veterans by requiring the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to acknowledge illnesses caused by burn pits and toxic materials.

The U.S. Senate unanimously passed bipartisan legislation called the Health Care for Burn Pit Veterans Act on February 16, 2022, which would require the VA to recognize the connection between the illnesses of post-9/11 veterans and exposure to burn pits and toxic materials. Budd asked Pelosi to "expeditiously bring to the floor" the legislation for a vote in the U.S. House, with the hopes of quickly sending the bill to President Joe Biden’s desk for approval. Budd said in his letter to Pelosi:
Congress has an obligation to care for our veterans who made significant sacrifices in the preservation of our freedoms during the War on Terror. I am confident that S. 3541 will overwhelmingly pass the House. Therefore, given how long burn pit exposed veterans have waited for the care they deserve, the House must advance this critical legislation immediately.

According to the Washington Post, the U.S. military used burn pits "throughout Iraq and Afghanistan to dispose of waste, medical and hazardous materials, and jet fuel, exposing veterans to toxins that have caused long-lasting medical problems." However, veterans exposed to burn pits "often face difficult disability benefit claims processes" with the VA to access the health care they need.

Another Post report noted that between 2007 and 2020, the VA denied almost 80 percent of all disability claims related to burn pit exposures, claiming there is "scant and inconclusive evidence" on whether burn pits are the cause of these illnesses.

The bill, which is co-sponsored by every member of the Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee, would update the VA’s healthcare and benefits for veterans exposed to toxic substances. It would also extend the eligibility period for VA hospital care and other medical services for veterans who served after September 11, 2001 and were "exposed to toxic substances, radiation, or other conditions, including those who did not enroll to receive VA care during the eligibility period," according to the bill summary.

The VA would additionally be required to annually train its healthcare and benefits personnel on the matter and "analyze total and respiratory disease mortality in veterans who served in specified locations on specified dates." The VA would be required to conduct a study to determine trends in the rates of the incidence of cancer in veterans and publish resources for veterans, families, and caregivers.

A Post column pointed to activists’ comparison of the VA’s neglect of veterans with burn pit-related illnesses to the Agent Orange debacle following the Vietnam War. Agent Orange is an herbicide the military used to clear jungles that "sickened thousands of veterans, but it took the government years to recognize its effect."

"The government would do well to avoid another such disgraceful episode. As the United States grapples with the legacy of its war in Afghanistan, it should not avoid facing the immense toll that such conflicts have had on our troops," the column reads.

#12  I was ok with emergency supplies, and MANPADs and Javelins. I'm less sure about larger crew served weapons and if they actually get used. What I am NOT OK with is the rapid and massive progression to 33 Billion dollars to pay for the entire Ukrainian government, pensions and salaries.

How in God's name does anyone, even those demokrats with room-temperature IQ, figure the American people should fully support a foreign government in totality, by loading more debt on our citizens without even asking them. After the financial disasters and massive theft of our time in Iraq and Afghanistan you would think we would be cured of such waste.

Corruption is pandemic there, and I can't help but wonder if Jojo isn't worried about the leak of the entire Burisma story in lurid detail and how it exposes his own personal corruption! The Puppet Show is acts like an Imperial state, profligately spending our money with no justification or legislative authority. I was OK with helping Ukraine, but we are looking at plans to spend a total of 50 billion in one year. This is criminal insanity...

The Russian tank design flaw that makes them 'mobile coffins': Multiple shells stored together means even an indirect hit can spark chain reaction and set off an explosion
[Daily Mail, Where America Gets Its News]
  • Russian tanks store up to 40 shells in a carousel at the base of the turret

  • Even an indirect hit can spark a chain reaction, igniting the ammunition

  • This blasts the turret high into the sky and makes the crew 'sitting ducks'

#1  ...We pretty much knew this fifty years ago when the first generations of Soviet tanks with automatic loaders came out - that's why the shells are in that 'carousel'. Of course, it's understood that to this day the autoloaders still aren't quite perfect, because from time to time they still try and load one of the crew members.

What should be terrifying - and enraging - Russian tank crew members is this: see those boxes on the tank's exterior? They're for Explosive Reactive Armor (ERA). Short version is that if they get hit by something, they explode outwards, cancelling out the effect of the hit. Now, missiles like JAVELIN have a double warhead which can defeat them, but they still provide considerable protection against garden-variety RPGs, artillery/cannon rounds, and some ATGMs. (They don't do much against the A-10's cannon, because they might stop the first round but they won't do much against the other hundred or so coming right behind it.)

The thing is that there's pics out there of destroyed Russian tanks where the ERA boxes have been blown open by whatever killed it.

And the boxes were empty.

LOL, my senior thesis in High school was on the difference between the soviet mindset of quantity vs the NATO one of quality. One of the articles I read mentioned the autoloader's tendency to grab the gunner's arm and attempt to load it. The next line of the article was and I quote as I remember it vividly, "Supposedly, this has been fixed."

#4  Massive corruption revealed, and obviously widespread. But also simple reality of not actually having massive inventory sustainment funding, hence empty ERA containers. Maintenance of any system in the Soviet/Russian inventory is always suspect, but conscript soldier, weak NCO corps, and slavishly pliant junior officers don't make for confidence in actual operation readiness.

Supreme Court taking up Biden efforts to end Trump-era 'Remain in Mexico' policy
[NYPOST] The Supreme Court
...the political football known as The Highest Court in the Land, home of penumbrae and emanations...
on Tuesday is set to hear arguments from the Biden administration, the same old faces in slightly different places, the same old ideas, the same old graft
...the pack of self-imagined masterminds of strategy and intrigue at the service of the Biden Crime Family and a grateful nation...
in their latest bid to end the Trump-era "Remain in Mexico" policy, which forces many asylum seekers to wait south of the US border for their hearings.

The Biden administration is appealing several lower court rulings which have required the 2019 immigration program — formally known as the Migrant Protection Protocols — to remain in place, after President Joe Biden
...... 46th president of the U.S. We hold these truths to be self-evident. All men and women created ... by the — you know — you know, the thing......
paused it immediately after taking office and the Department of Homeland Security officially ended in June 2021.

Supporters of the policy — namely states Texas and Missouri which have sued to keep it in place — claim it helps reduce migrant flow into the US. Even DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas has said it likely led to fewer illegal border crossings in 2019, however he has noted that the policy has "substantial and unjustifiable human costs."

Florida man freed after serving 32 years for murder could land back in prison
[NYPOST] A Florida man freed last month after spending 32 years behind bars for a murder he’s always denied committing could be heading back to prison — after an appeals court ruled that his conviction should not have been overturned.

Crosley Green, now 64, was convicted of first-degree murder in 1990 for shooting dead Charles "Chip" Flynn, 22, in Brevard County, largely because of testimony from Flynn’s ex-girlfriend who was with him at the time, the Washington Post noted.

However,
the hip bone's connected to the leg bone...
the conviction was overturned in 2018 by a federal judge who accused prosecutors of withholding crucial evidence — including the fact that both responding cops had suspected Flynn’s ex was the killer.

No physical evidence tied him to the case, and three witnesses who claimed Green had confessed later recanted, the outlet said.

Green — who’d initially been sent to death row, where he spent 19 years — was finally freed just over a year ago, on April 8, after defeating an initial appeal by Florida state.

However,
the hip bone's connected to the leg bone...
he faces the possibility of being sent back behind bars after the Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit threw out the decision to vacate his conviction, saying that the concerns over withheld evidence had been exhausted ahead of the federal judge’s decision.

As his legal team fights to appeal that decision, Green gave an emotional presser, praying that "the judge will keep me free and take a look at this once again."

"Yes, a wrong has been done to me ... With the grace of God, I hope it will be straightened," he said, according to footage posted by WKMG.

"I look forward to staying home, staying free and putting this behind me."

Diane Clark, then a sergeant who first arrived at the 1989 murder scene, said at the presser that "things didn’t add up" in the slaying.

"In this particular case with Crosley Green, the truth was hidden," Clark said.

"To me, that’s a travesty of justice. He spent half his life in prison for something that I don’t believe he did."

Green’s attorneys are asking that the full 11-judge appeals panel reconsider the decision — and will push for a governor’s pardon if it fails, they told the Washington Post.

Ukraine conflict: British man Scott Sibley killed
[BBC] A British national has been killed in Ukraine and a second is missing, the UK Foreign Office has said.

Sources in Ukraine told the BBC the dead man is Scott Sibley, who is understood to have been fighting for Ukrainian forces.

He is the first British national confirmed to have been killed in the conflict and has been described as a "friend like no other".

The Foreign Office has not released the identity of either person.

But a spokesman said it was supporting both their families.

Details of Mr Sibley's death and how or when the second person went missing have not been given.

Diplomatic sources have said it was most likely the two individuals were foreign volunteers serving with Ukrainian armed forces in either Mariupol or elsewhere in Donbas.

Tributes have been paid online to Mr Sibley, who is understood to be a former member of British armed forces, including on Facebook and on fundraising pages set up in his memory.

A post on the Logistics Support Squadron Facebook page described him as a "former serving soldier" of the squadron and said he had "showed Commando spirit until the end".

The founder of a fundraising page described Mr Sibley, also known as Sibs, as a "friend like no other" and "the bravest person I've had the pleasure to have known".

"His life may have been cut short but he lived to the full and did things the Sibs way, right until the end," he wrote.

#4  The “cho-mos” (slang for child molesters) are unfortunately segregated into their own section nowadays to prevent prison justice. That being said there are some who are wrongfully convicted. A big tactic during nasty divorces/custody fights is to accuse the father of molestation. Just the accusation is enough. Jurors are eager to put away the accused on the flimsiest evidence. Sometimes the accusation is all the evidence needed.

Europe
Denmark to 'outsource' inmates
[RT] The justice ministers of Denmark and Kosovo have signed a treaty, with Copenhagen renting 300 prison cells from Pristina

Denmark will be sending foreign nationals convicted in the country to serve their sentences in a Kosovan prison, the countries’ respective justice ministers agreed on Wednesday. Should both sides' parliaments give the accord the green light, the first inmates could be transferred to the Balkans as early as next year.

Danish Justice Minister Nick Haekkerup and his Kosovan colleague Albulena Haxhiu have signed off on a deal that reserves some 300 cells in a Kosovan prison for Danish migrant convicts. According to the scheme, inmates who are not Danish nationals will be serving sentences meted out by Danish courts in a prison located in the Kosovan city of Gjilan. The penitentiary facility will, however, first have to be refurbished so that conditions in there are in line with those found in Danish jails.

After the inmates have served their time, they will be deported back to their countries of origin.

The accord signed on Wednesday was preceded by a preliminary agreement between Copenhagen and Pristina in December 2021. The BBC reported at the time that Denmark would shell out €15 million annually for an initial period of five years. On top of that, Copenhagen will reportedly help Pristina develop green energy in the Balkan region in exchange.

Haekkerup also noted that the agreement “sends a clear signal to foreigners from third-party countries who have been sentenced to deportation” that their “future is not in Denmark and therefore you won't serve your sentence here.”

Commenting on the news to Denmark’s Ritzau media outlet, the official expressed hope that the “practical side of things can be ready in the first quarter of 2023.”

According to official data cited by the media, the number of inmates in Denmark has ballooned by almost 20% since 2015, reaching over 4,000 in early 2021, and the Scandinavian country’s prison system has been operating at capacity.

The deal struck between Denmark and Kosovo comes weeks after the UK government revealed plans to send asylum seekers arriving in that country to Rwanda, where they would await as their applications are processed by British authorities. The Times reported at the time that only male migrants would be flown to the central African nation.

In early April, British Home Secretary Priti Patel traveled to the African country which had finalized a “migration and economic development partnership” with the UK. It followed previous failed attempts to strike similar deals with Albania and Ghana.

It is, however, not clear at this point if the holding facilities in Rwanda will be under UK jurisdiction.

-War on Police-
Team Biden finally admits there's a war on cops — which it's inflaming
[NYPOST] Chicago, Minneapolis, Washington, DC, and a host of other cities have seen gratuitously sadistic robberies and carjackings, all of which the national media ignore because of the inconvenient race of victims and assailants.

The police bear the disproportionate share of such violence since they are the most frequent target of race-based calumny from Democrats, the mainstream media and academia. The rising tide of animosity has them leaving the profession in droves, exacerbating the crime problem. Police recruiting has become a near impossibility.

Democrats may face a rout this November, in significant part because of the violence that is spreading from the inner cities into the rest of the country. If Biden wants to minimize the electoral losses, he should join his FBI chief in repudiating anti-cop violence. As important, he should retract his own false statements about policing and America’s enduring racism.

Court in Adygeya cancels fine for activist for distributing Islamic newspaper
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[KavkazUzel] The Supreme Court of Adygea
...an autonomous republic in the northwest Caucasus whose population is mostly Moslem...
canceled the fine to activist Gamzat Magomedov, who had been appointed to him earlier for distributing the Muslim newspaper As-salam, due to the expiration of the statute of limitations.

The Supreme Court of Adygeya canceled a fine of 25,000 rubles to activist Gamzat Magomedov, who was previously assigned to him by the Maykop city court because of the distribution of the Muslim newspaper As-salam.

Magomedov was detained in October 2021 during the consideration of the case in the Maykop City Court, he insisted on his innocence, claiming that the As-Salam newspaper is a registered mass media outlet, Kavkaz.Realii informed on April 27*.

However, the judge ruled that Magomedov could not distribute the As-Salam newspaper, since he is not an official representative of the Muftiate. During the consideration of the appeal, Magomedov noted that the case was to be considered by the world court, and not by the Maykop city court.

As a result, the Supreme Court of Adygeya canceled the fine to Magomedov due to violations in the preparation of the protocol and the expiration of the statute of limitations, OVD-Info reported on April 27 **.

Recall that the spiritual and educational newspaper As-salam is published by the Spiritual Administration of Muslims (DUM) of Dagestan. The publication is used by the muftiate of Dagestan for anti-extremist propaganda, it publishes materials on issues of traditional Islam.

In March 2017, the muftis of the republics of the North Caucasus filed claims against the chairman of the DUM of Dagestan due to the fact that the As-Salam newspaper is being distributed on the territory of their republics. In response to these claims, the DUM of Dagestan on March 18, 2017 withdrew from the Coordinating Center for Muslims of the North Caucasus.

The consumer is screwed and again with wings already at $4.40lbs. We can only guess what the prices for eggs and etc... will be in the next few months.

BTW: Since it takes about 5 to 6 months from a chick hatching to laying an egg. Which means by December we should be back to normal. But the egg and poultry prices will likely remain inflated for another 6 months to a year.

Bottomless pit
[AirForceMag] The manned fighter aircraft that will form the centerpiece of the Air Force’s Next Generation Air Dominance program will cost hundreds of millions of dollars per plane, Air Force Secretary Frank Kendall told members of Congress on April 27—but the service can reduce costs in development and sustainment.

Speaking before the House Armed Services Committee on the fiscal 2023 budget request, Kendall specified that the main NGAD fighter would cost "multiple hundreds of millions of dollars ... on an individual basis," acknowledging that such a price tag "is a number that’s going to get your attention."
And, that's before the cost overruns start...
By comparison, the F-22 cost roughly $135 million per tail, making it the most expensive fighter the U.S. Air Force has ever developed. The F-35A, meanwhile, costs around $80 million per jet, but that number could rise.

NGAD, according to Kendall’s estimate, will dwarf those costs, at least when it comes to price per plane. But the sixth-generation platform will fulfill a key air dominance role, Kendall noted.

"It’s going to be an expensive airplane; F-22 was an expensive airplane. It was one of my aircraft in one of my earlier positions, but it’s also an incredibly effective aircraft. It’s been dominant in the air for decades now. And we expect NGAD to be the same," Kendall said.

With such a massive cost per plane, though, work will have to be done in other areas to keep the program’s overall cost down.

#1  Somehow, having ten really qualitative aircraft against 400 lesser ones still seems foolish.

Somewhere in my WWII history recollection, I recall the quote from Stalin. "Quantity has a quality of its own". Stalin was really fond of this bit of Hegelian wisdom, somewhat bastardized by Engels and completely watered down by Lenin.

#3  ...Some years ago, there was a novel - the name escapes me - that featured a future war in 2020. One of the stars was a combat plane called BLUE LIGHT.

It was so expensive - and nobody knew HOW expensive, because everything about it was classified, including its budget - that the military could only afford 12. On the other hand, they were invisible and invincible.

NGAD had better be both of those things.

#4  Chuck Yeager had an opinion on such things. My opinion is drone swarms will become a thing. Countermeasure for swarms is to attack command and control. Countermeasure to that is drone autonomy. That begets the singularity. Sky Net wins in the end.

India-Pakistan
Have the Haqqanis entered J&K: What the killing of 2 Pashto speaking terrorists tells us
[OneIndia] The presence of Pashtun gunnies in Jammu and Kashmir
...a disputed territory lying between India and Pakistain. After partition, the Paks grabbed half of it and call it Azad (Free) Kashmir. The remainder they refer to as "Indian Occupied Kashmir". They have fought four wars with India over it, the score currently 4-0 in New Delhi's favor. After 72 years of this nonsense, India cut the Gordian knot in 2019, removing the area's special status, breaking off Ladakh as a separate state, and allowing people from other areas to settle (or in the case of the Pandits, to resettle) there....
(K&K) is a worrying sign. Two Pashto speaking foreign bad boyz were potted in an encounter in Jammu and Kashmir earlier this month and this has led the agencies to suspect the hand of the dreaded Haqqani Network.

The Haqqani Network mainly operates in eastern Afghanistan and North-Western Pakistain and is closely associated with the ISI. Following the encounter in Sunjuwan, ADGP Mukesh Singh said that an arrested aide of one of the terrorist, Shafiq Ahmed who had kept them at their house had informed the police that both spoke Pashto.

With that kind of resumé, surely they don’t speak it as well as you, and with a more noticeably foreign accent... Palestinian Islamic Jihad Movement unveils newly developed military drone
[HODHODYEMENNEWS.NET] The al-Quds Brigades, the military wing of the Paleostinian Islamic Jihad
...created after many members of the Egyptian Moslem Brotherhood decided the organization was becoming too moderate. Operations were conducted out of Egypt until 1981 when the group was exiled after the assassination of President Anwar Sadat. They worked out of Gaza until they were exiled to Lebanon in 1987, where they clove tightly to Hezbollah. In 1989 they moved to Damascus, where they remain a subsidiary of Hezbollah...
Movement, has unveiled the home-made Jenin unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), which was developed by al-Quds Brigades engineers themselves, and is set to deployed by the movement’s Air Force.

"Today we are unveiling the Jenin Drone Plane, that is operated by the movement’s military wing’s Air Force, which is being reinforced by our Mujahideen inside the besieged Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It is currently ruled with an iron fist by Hamaswith about the living conditions you'd expect. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response...
Strip," Abu Hamza, front man for the al-Quds Brigades said in a statement.

Abu Hamza warned that "any aggression against the holy al-Aqsa Mosque and Islamic sanctities will lead to a battle that exceeds the Paleostinian borders."

The al-Quds Brigades broadcasted video footage showing the drone conducting a reconnaissance missions, without disclosing further technical details.

-Short Attention Span Theater-
74-Year-Old [Florida] Golfer Opens Fire on Man Walking Dog on Delray Beach Golf Course, Beats Him with Club
[Breitbart] "went ballistic"
A 74-year-old golfer lost his mind on Sunday when he saw a man walking his dog on Delray Beach, Florida, golf course, but he didn’t just yell at the guy. Instead, he reportedly broke out a rosco and started shooting at him. Then he attacked with a club when he ran out of ammo.

Certainly, it is against the rules to walk a dog on the golf course. That goes without saying. But the golfer’s reaction is extreme, to be sure.

According to a report at WPBF TV, witnesses alleged that 74-year-old golfer Robert Levine went ballistic when he saw 64-year-old Herbert Merritt walking his dog along the 15th hole on Sunday evening at about 7 p.m.

Levine became furious and began shooting at and chasing Merritt around the green. He maimed the dog lover in the ankle and then smacked him with a golf club after setting the gat aside.

#4  Many years ago I was playing golf with some friends when we got to the 10th hole tee. There was a couple who were setting up a picnic in the middle of the fairway halfway to the green. When I pointed out this was a golf course and not a picnic ground the young woman said, "We are in this park and we have every right to be here". I then pointed to the actual park and told her that was the park. They refused to leave so we played through. When we got to the green and looked back the course manager was escorting them off.

Evergreen CO is in the mountains west of Denver, @8000 ft. Common course practice was to issue a bucket of range balls with each cart. The 10th hole was wide and long, like a mountain pasture.

On more than one occasion, range balls were used to startle and drive the elk herd from the green into the rough.
