Dinesh D'Souza's '2000 Mules': Ballot trafficking exposé has the evidence; can it get a hearing?
[JustTheNews] Documentary leans on cell phone geotracking data and security camera video to expose hundreds of "mules" who stuffed ballot boxes at odd hours of the day in critical swing states in 2020.

Dinesh D'Souza didn't take any chances with his new documentary, "2000 Mules."

The conservative filmmaker leaned on free speech-friendly platforms like Rumble and Locals.com to ensure his provocative challenge to election integrity got a fair hearing.

"2000 Mules" may be the most convincing, and explosive, evidence the 2020 Presidential election wasn't as fair as we've been told.

"We are essentially keeping our boat away from the reef of censorship," D'Souza says of his Big Tech strategy. "It's at a high price … this is the most censored topic in America."

"2000 Mules" enjoys a limited theatrical release (May 2, 4) before a virtual premiere May 7. You won't find much about it, though, via D'Souza's Facebook, Twitter or YouTube channels, despite his large followings on each.

"I didn't put the trailer up on Facebook," he says. "If I do it'll be banned." He is hopeful, however, that "2000 Mules" can thrive in a new, freer speech environment on Twitter following its recent purchase by Elon Musk.

Calling Musk's Twitter "a liberated platform" evoking "Eastern Europe after the fall of the Berlin Wall," he says, "I feel the excitement."

D'Souza knew any statement, let alone an entire film, questioning the security of the 2020 presidential election triggers Big Tech censors. Even former President Donald Trump's chat touching on the subject with the NELK Boys earned a YouTube ban.

D'Souza's film leans heavily on geotracking data from cell phones and video collected by security cameras to show hundreds of "mules" who stuffed ballot boxes at odd hours of the day in critical swing states during the 2020 election cycle.

These mules traveled from box to box between visits to nonprofit groups in their elaborate journeys in the weeks approaching Election Day. (D'Souza's film doesn't share the names of these groups for legal reasons, he says).

Some "mules" came from states outside the polling places in question. Others visited more than 10 different nonprofits before their work days were done.

They often toiled late at night and took pictures of themselves dropping off fistfuls of ballots, possibly to prove to their benefactors they performed the task in question. Others are shown wearing blue surgical-style gloves while dropping off the envelopes only to dispose of them seconds later.

The Houston-based True the Vote, which formed in 2009, supplied the geotracking data for D'Souza's film. The organization hopes to restore confidence in the U.S. election system, which took a sizable hit after the fallout from Joe Biden's 2020 victory.

D'Souza knows many Americans, especially conservatives, want to move past questions of 2020 election chicanery. He can't help but wonder if the mules in question cost President Trump a second term.

"The ramifications are considerable … if its evidence holds up, we're in uncharted territory," he says, citing accusations of voter fraud in John F. Kennedy's victory over Richard Nixon in 1960 as child's play in comparison.

D'Souza's films are often like conservative op-eds, brimming with rough and tumble charges against the left. "2000 Mules" is different, taking an investigative approach to its subject.

The real-world consequences of the evidentiary trove detailed in the film are unfolding in Georgia, among other swing states, where the State Elections Board and Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger are investigating potential illegal ballot trafficking during the 2020 election cycle. Biden won there 49.5%-49.3% in 2020, defeating Trump by fewer than 12,000 votes in the long reliably red Peach State.

D'Souza brings curious baggage to "2000 Mules." Not only are his previous films ("Death of a Nation," "Trump Card") brimming with conservative sharp elbows, President Donald Trump pardoned D'Souza in 2018 for illegally contributing $20,000 to a New York politician.

He wants audiences to put his ideology aside.

"It wouldn't matter if I was an extreme left-winger or moderate," he says. "The proof of the pudding is in the pudding."

The filmmaker admits many questions remain unanswered by "2000 Mules."

"How do we know the mules were paid? Who organized this?" he asks, adding he wasn't able to show money changing hands but that doesn't mean the mules weren't paid for their efforts.

He's also at a loss to explain why the allegedly tainted ballots didn't fuel a blue Democratic wave in 2020. Perhaps, he muses, people weren't comfortable with election chicanery but did the bare minimum required to keep the "fascist" Trump out of the White House.

President Trump has seen "2000 Mules" and gave it his approval, but most Republicans in D.C. haven't screened the movie yet.

"I would be surprised if they didn't hear about it very soon," D'Souza notes.

Following its premieres, the filmmaker says, the movie will shift to digital downloads via SalemNow.com and Locals.com, the latter a free speech hub created by pundit and author Dave Rubin.

D'Souza thinks his critics will cling to the notion that the votes stuffed into all those ballot boxes were ultimately legal, even if the methods behind them look shady.

"They're not going to be able to shut it down," he says of his critics. "It's unstoppable."

D'Souza predicts one significant fallout from "2000 Mules." The canard that the 2020 presidential battle between Joe Biden and Donald Trump was "the most secure election in history will start falling by the wayside," he says.

Europe
No-Go Zones: Prime Minister Admits to ‘Parallel Societies' in Multicultural Sweden Following Qur'an Riots
[Breitbart] In the wake of widespread Islamist riots across Sweden, Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson admitted that there are now “parallel societies” within her country – a tacit admission of the existence of Europe’s infamous ‘no-go zones’.

In response to Danish anti-Islam activist Rasmus Paludan and his followers burning a Qur’an earlier this month, widespread riots engulfed the Scandinavian country, with places like Malmo, Linköping, Norrköping, and Rinkeby seeing days of violence over the Easter weekend in which over 100 police officers were injured.

Commenting on the growing unrest among the Muslim population of Sweden, which has surged significantly as a result of the pro-migration policies since the height of European Migrant Crisis in 2015-16, Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson said on Thursday that there are “strong forces that are ready to go to great lengths to harm our society.”

“Segregation has been allowed to go so far that Sweden now has parallel societies,” Andersson said according to Aftonbladet. “We live in the same country but in completely different realities.”

“Integration has been too poor while we have had large-scale migration. Society has also been too weak,” she went on to admit.

Currently around one-fifth of the population, or two million people, in Sweden were born abroad, with more coming from migration-background families.

After years of negative impacts on social cohesion, the government has sought to enact stricter migration controls, such as placing limits on those seeking permanent residency.

The admissions from the leftist prime minister represent one of the closest acknowledgements from the government as to the actual existence of migrant-dominated no-go zones in Sweden.

Nevertheless, the blight of the areas has long been reported on both domestically and internationally, with even the British government previously warning its citizens to steer clear of such areas in 2018 over the risk of gun crime and explosions, with car bombs becoming a prominent feature of turf warfare in certain sections of the country.

Sweden has been ravaged by a spate of bombings of all kinds, with one expert stating that the amount of bombings is unparalleled in the developed world and the multicultural Swedish city of Malmo frequently being subjected to explosions and shootings.
Mostly Moslem migrant gangs of various ethnicities fighting for supremacy, with the occasional native biker gangs rearing up on their hind legs in self-defence.
As early as 2016, police in Sweden admitted to having lost control of 55 so-called no-go areas, where crime rates spiralled in parallel with mass migration. At the time police officers admitted that they had lost the ability to effectively enforce the law and were reduced to merely reacting to surges in theft, sexual assault, and gang crime.

On top of the ill effects of having heavily segregated communities, statistics of shown that the migrant population is significantly lagging behind native-born Swedes economically, with migrants experiencing a much higher unemployment rate.

One of the reasons cited for the disparity is the comparative education level, with reports previously showing that nearly half of unemployed migrants did not have a high school education, compared to just 18 per cent of the native population.

Following the recent riots during Easter, the Swedish government has announced that it will be looking into adopting stricter systems to combat juvenile delinquency, including potential electronic monitoring of children after school in order to ensure that they go home in order to prevent teens from joining gangs.

Asylum in Denmark: Is the country guilty of double standards?

[BBC] Denmark has been welcoming Ukrainian refugees since the start of the Russian invasion and the Danish government has just passed a law that will allow them to stay for up to two years.

But at the same time, the government has also been working on plans to reduce the number of non-European asylum seekers.

Now many Syrian refugees, already living in the country, are feeling unwelcome and worried about their future.
Insightful of them.
BBC Arabic’s Hanan Razek went to Copenhagen to find out whether there really is a double standard.
Military age men from a conquering, Eve-teasing culture versus women with children who want to return home as soon as the situation settles down, and in the meantime hope to work to support themselves — and there are already reports that large numbers are returning to the areas Ukraine has reconquered or Russia has withdrawn from. I know what I’d prefer.

Does 'hair of the dog' actually work after drinking alcohol? What experts say about the hangover 'cure'
[FoxNews] The medieval saying 'the hair of the dog that bit you' has been used as a rumored hangover cure, but here's why you shouldn’t fight alcohol with alcohol

DOES 'HAIR OF THE DOG' WORK?
"The short answer is yes," said Dr. Ken Perry, an emergency physician in South Carolina.

"The feeling of a hangover is due to the receptors being without alcohol," he told Fox News Digital. "Many of the symptoms [including headache and gastrointestinal upset] are minimized if the alcohol is reintroduced and the receptors are no longer absent of alcohol."

"In a way, the ‘hair of the dog’ does actually work in the short term," Perry continued. "That being said, it doesn’t fix a hangover, but rather delays the symptoms."

Europe
Ukraine war fails to nudge neutral Switzerland closer to NATO
[Aljazeera] While Finland and Sweden appear keen on membership, there is little public or political support for joining the alliance in historically neutral Switzerland.

The security architecture on the European continent is changing dramatically as Russia extends its war on Ukraine.

While Finland and Sweden are increasingly likely to join NATO, closer cooperation with the alliance is also the subject of a lively discussion in Switzerland.

But will the mountainous, landlocked Central European country abandon its principle of neutrality and make a bid to the Washington-led Western military alliance?

Laurent Goetschel, director of swisspeace and professor of political science at the University of Basel, told Al Jazeera there could be some advantages.

"The country might benefit from additional networks regarding intelligence and other security-related exchange formats," said Goetschel, adding NATO would have an additional member and there would be "no discussions anymore about being allowed to use Swiss airspace — or even land routes — for transports and communication".

But he added: "Neutrality is historically rooted in the two past centuries, when it served the country to maintain its independence in a Europe characterised by major wars. It also helped national cohesion, when parts of the population would rather have supported France and other parts of Germany.

"Over the years and through its success, neutrality became part of Swiss national identity. By now, it still represents the county’s major foreign policy orientation."

Iraq
Solid Will: PMF to follow up on the security situation in many areas west Al-Anbar

On Saturday, al-Anbar Operations Command has decided that the Tribal Mobilization Forces (affiliated with PMF) would be responsible for the operations in the areas of al-Dabaa, south of al-Rutba district, al-Nukhayb, Heet, and the desert of al-Qaim district because they are familiar with the region and know well the security situation in the area. A source said.

The source pointed out that "the current operations in the desert areas will allow the tribal mobilization forces to find the sleeping terrorist cells."

ISIS attacked the Iraqi Army in Al-Anbar, injuring soldiers

On Saturday, ISIS attacked a military point of the Iraqi Army in western al-Anbar Governorate.

A source told Shafaq News Agency that ISIS elements targeted an Iraqi army checkpoint on the al-Rutba road, west of al-Anbar.

The attack maimed two soldiers.

Last week, the Iraqi Joint Operations Command launched the second stage of the "Solid Will" military operation against ISIS in western Iraq.

The Counter-Terrorism Service, the Rapid Response Forces, the Federal Police, the Iraqi army, the Special Tactical Regiment, and Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) participate in the Operation.

An official told Shafaq News Agency that "The operation targeted areas west of the al-Anbar desert, including Wadi Houran, al-Hussainiyat, al-Taba'at, and other desert and remote areas."

20 Civilians Evacuated From Besieged Plant In Ukraine's Mariupol
[NDTV] Mariupol: At least 20 civilians, including several children, were able to leave a badly battered steel plant in the Ukrainian port city of Mariupol on Saturday in what could be the start of a long-awaited, larger evacuation of the last holdout in the Russian-held city.

Ukrainian fighters of the Azov regiment, which has been defending the site, said the 20 civilians had left, possibly for the Ukrainian city of Zaporizhzhia, about 225 kilometers (140 miles) to the northwest.

Russia's Tass news agency carried a similar report, though putting the number of evacuees at 25.

A United Nations-planned evacuation had been in the works, though it was unclear whether Saturday's evacuation was UN-led and whether further evacuations were imminent. There were no immediate details on the condition of the evacuees.

But the fact that the evacuation took place at all was significant. Conditions in a vast network of tunnels under the Azovstal steel plant -- where hundreds of civilians are believed to still be sheltering, along with Ukrainian fighters -- are said to be brutal, and earlier efforts at evacuations had been futile.

The apparent ceasefire in Mariupol took place as Russian attacks continued unabated across Ukraine, most heavily in the fiercely disputed eastern regions, but with attacks as far west as Odessa, on the Black Sea coast.

Odessa's regional governor Maxim Marchenko said a Russian missile strike had destroyed the airport runway, as Russia continues targeting infrastructure and supply lines deep in the west of the country.

Government Disinformation Board Determines All Criticism Of Government Disinformation Board To Be Disinformation
[Babylon Bee] WASHINGTON, D.C.—In its first official act, the new DHS Government Disinformation Board ruled today that all criticism of the Government Disinformation Board is disinformation. This comes in response to sharp criticism from conservatives, which they say is untrue and unwarranted.

"The new board has barely begun its work and already many have jumped to the entirely unwarranted conclusion that it will be used to quash free speech," said DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. "This could not be further from the truth, as everyone in this country has the right to say how much they support and agree with the Biden administration. It is only that speech that we disagree with which will be labeled as disinformation. This follows the well-established practice of media fact-checkers and social media content moderators."

The ruling further found as "substantially dishonest, false and untrue" all allegations that the work of the board would in any way resemble that of "The Ministry of Truth" from George Orwell’s 1984. The Board stated: "There is no possible way that we could have been inspired by George Orwell’s 1984 since none of us have read that book or even know who this Orwell person is."

Nina Jankowicz, President of the Board, concluded the ruling by singing a song to the tune of "Supercalifragilistic" from Mary Poppins. The lyrics, in part, were: "People think our lovely board is somehow quite atrocious, we conclude they suffer from a terrible psychosis, so we will come down on them in ways that are ferocious, please excuse my singing as I’ve got bad halitosis."

At publishing time, Ms. Jankowicz was still working on choreography to accompany her song, along with a big closing number, "A Spoon Full of Coercion Helps the Propaganda Go Down."

#5  It was said many years ago, in a political comedy comment, by one of the best comedians that lived.
Sad to say, it is becoming more and more obvious every year.

“Rights aren’t rights if someone can take them away. They’re privileges. That’s all we’ve ever had in this country, is a bill of temporary privileges. And if you read the news even badly, you know that every year the list gets shorter and shorter. Sooner or later, the people in this country are gonna realize the government … doesn’t care about you, or your children, or your rights, or your welfare or your safety… It’s interested in its own power. That’s the only thing. Keeping it and expanding it wherever possible.”— George Carlin

Russian explosions point to Ukraine's embrace of the British special forces model
[Washington Examiner] Storage tanks at a major oil depot in the Russian city of Bryansk exploded early on Monday. Was Ukraine responsible?

Before you answer, consider first that this is only the latest disaster to afflict Russian critical infrastructure near the Ukrainian border. Another oil depot in Belgorod was targeted by a Ukrainian helicopter strike in early April. Prior to that, Russian railway lines near the border were sabotaged. A Russian missile research center and a chemical plant also recently suffered explosions.

These incidents all appear to fit well with Ukraine's military strategy.

Bryansk, 62 miles from the Ukrainian border, is beyond the range of most drone systems in Ukraine's possession. An unconfirmed video from the Bryansk incident indicates the sound of a missile in the terminal attack phase. Considering this noise and Bryansk's relative distance from Ukraine, short-range ballistic missiles may have been responsible. Regardless, the explosion will disrupt energy replenishment efforts for Russian military forces in Ukraine.

The explosion also dilutes Russian President Vladimir Putin's credibility in claiming that his war on Ukraine is not a war, but rather a limited "special military operation." When stuff keeps blowing up in Russian cities, it's hard to convince the residents of said cities that Russia isn't at war.

That takes us to Ukraine's evolving military strategy. With Russia forced to scale back its goals in the conflict, Ukraine has escalated its offensive operations in what's known as the "deep battlespace." This involves the targeting of Russian logistics and command and control units deeper behind the front lines. Employing Western-provided drones and highly mobile small units, Ukraine is degrading and demoralizing Russia's war machine.

It's not a wild leap to expect that Ukraine is now applying these same tactics over the border inside Russia. This is likely a result of the British training the Ukrainian military.

After all, while British military forces are not directly engaged in combat against Russian forces, they have been training Ukrainian forces for years. This includes training by British special forces, which prioritizes deep battlespace operations. Going back to the British Army's 22nd Special Air Service Regiment in North Africa during the Second World War, British Special Forces revel in action deep behind enemy lines. Operating without support and relying on mobility and stealth, the SAS has repeatedly proven that small units can create havoc.

The compromise of a SAS unit during the Gulf War shows that these operations are high-risk. But whether or not the Bryansk incident involved Ukrainian forces on the ground in Russia, it seems clear that other incidents behind Russian lines do involve Ukrainian ground forces.

Havoc is certainly what we're seeing in Russian border areas right now. Ukraine seems to be trying to cut off Russian forces from their logistics trains, while also bringing the war home for Russians who might otherwise be fooled by the fiction of Putin's so-called "special operation."

1991: When America Tried to Keep Ukraine in the USSR
[Mises Wire] The US government today likes to pretend that it is the perennial champion of political independence for countries that were once behind the Iron Curtain. What is often forgotten, however, is that in the days following the fall of the Berlin Wall, Washington opposed independence for Soviet republics like Ukraine and the Baltic states.

In fact, the Bush administration openly supported Mikhail Gorbachev's efforts to hold the Soviet Union together rather than allow the USSR to decentralize into smaller states. The US regime and its supporters in the press took the position that nationalism—not Soviet despotism—was the real problem for the people of Eastern Europe and the Caucasus.

Indeed, in the case of Ukraine, President George H.W. Bush even traveled to Kyiv in 1990 to lecture the Ukrainians about the dangers of seeking independence from Moscow, while decrying the supposed nationalist threat.

Today, nationalism is still a favorite bogeyman among Washington establishment mouthpieces. These outlets routinely opine on the dangers of French nationalism, Hungarian nationalism, and Russian nationalism. One often sees the term nationalism applied in ways designed to make the term distasteful, as in "white nationalism."

When nationalism is convenient for the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and its European freeloaders, on the other hand, we are told that nationalism is a force for good. Thus, the US regime and mainstream media generally pretend that Ukrainian nationalism—and even Ukrainian white nationalism—either don't exist or are to be praised.

In 1991, however, the US had not yet decided that it paid to actively promote nationalism—so long as it is anti-Russian nationalism. Thus, in those days, we find the US regime siding with Moscow in efforts to stifle or discourage local nationalist efforts to break with the old Soviet state. The way it played out is an interesting case study in both Bush administration bumbling and in the US's foreign policy before the advent of unipolar American liberal hegemony.

Patiala clashes: 3 senior police officers shunted out, 3 accused arrested

2.) A province of Pakistain ruled by one of the Sharif brothers
3.) A province of India. It is majority (60 percent) Sikh and Hindoo (37 percent), which means it has relatively few Moslem riots....

government on Saturday shunted out three senior coppers including an inspector general even as Patiala was limping back to normality with security personnel keeping a tight vigil a day after festivities between two groups over an anti-Khalistan march. The police booked 25 accused by name so far in six FIRs registered in connection with Friday's incident which left four persons injured.

Mobile internet and SMS services were suspended from 9.30 am by the state's home affairs and justice department till 4 pm. The AAP government in the state transferred Inspector General of Police (Patiala Range) Rakesh Agrawal, Patiala Senior Superintendent of Police Nanak Singh and the Patiala superintendent of police with immediate effect. A spokesperson of the Chief Minister's Office said Mukhwinder Singh Chhina was appointed as the new IG-Patiala while Deepak Parik will be the new Patiala SSP. Wazir Singh has been appointed as the new superintendent of police of Patiala.

Talking to news hounds here after taking charge, Chhina said Barjinder Singh Parwana, a resident of Rajpura, is the main accused and one of the criminal masterminds of the incident. "He is yet to be arrested. Several police teams have been formed to nab him," he said. He said out of total 25 accused, three have been arrested -- Harish Singla, Daljeet Singh and Kuldeep Singh. "Punjab Police will come down very heavily whoever tries to disturb peace and communal harmony," said Chhina, flanked by Patiala Deputy Commissioner Sakshi Sawhney. Police and district administration authorities on Saturday claimed that the situation is under control and peaceful in the city.

Heavy police security was deployed at the site of the festivities outside the Kali Mata temple here. Various Hindu groups had given a call for a bandh in protest against Friday's incident. Several markets in Patiala city remained shut on Saturday. Representatives of some Hindu groups lifted their 'dharna' outside the temple and deferred their proposed protest march after police and district administration assured them of action within two days against those who were behind the disturbance and violence on Friday.

The groups had clashed over the anti-Khalistan march, hurling stones at each other and brandishing swords. Police had to fire in the air to bring the situation under control. Harish Singla, working president of a group called "Shiv Sena

(Bal Thackeray) and who organised the march, was sent to two-day police remand by a court here.

Singla was arrested on Friday after he was booked under various sections including 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 506 (Punishment for criminal intimidation) of the IPC. This is the first major law and order incident in the state under the Bhagwant Mann-led state government. Opposition parties had attacked the AAP-led regime, alleging that the law and order in the state had collapsed.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann had ordered a probe into the festivities and had said that not a single culprit will be spared. A meeting of the district level peace committee was also held on Saturday here in which local MLAs, senior police officials and representatives of the religious bodies appealed to people to maintain peace and harmony. Talking to the media earlier, Patiala Deputy Commissioner Sawhney said the situation is calm and peaceful. To a question on whether one person received bullet injury in Friday's incident, he said a bullet had hit a person but it was yet not clear how it hit him.

Videos are being examined..the patient is stable, said the DC. Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema appealed to people to maintain peace and harmony and also said that whosoever was behind the Friday incident will not be spared. "CM Mann saab himself is monitoring the situation," he further said. Meanwhile,

They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
jihadists blew up a natural gas pipeline today in Egypt’s restive northern part of the Sinai Peninsula, causing a fire but no casualties, security officials say.

The officials say the suspected hard boyz planted explosives under a pipeline in the town of Bir al-Abd.

The expulsion sent thick flames of fire shooting into the sky, and authorities stopped the flow of gas to extinguish the fire, according to eyewitnesses.

The officials speak on condition of anonymity because they aren’t authorized to speak to media and the eyewitnesses ask not to be named for fear of reprisal.

No group immediately claims the attack which caused no human casualties.

The Islamic State group affiliate, which is centered in Northern Sinai, however, has claimed previous attacks targeted gas pipelines between Egypt and both Jordan and Israel.

Today’s attack comes as the jihadists suffered heavy losses in recent months with Egyptian security forces, aided by armed rustics, intensifying their efforts to eliminate the group.

Direct hit! Dramatic moment two tanks are obliterated by explosives dropped from stealthy drone in strikes believed to have been carried out by Ukrainian navy against Russian targets
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news]
  • Drone hovered 400ft above the Russian armour before letting loose grenades

  • Five seconds later, the two Russian tanks were engulfed in huge fireballs

  • Ukraine's military has used drones to great effect amid Russia's invasion

  • They are used for small scale airstrikes and to analyse Russian troop movement

  • It comes as Ukraine's Land Forces reported Putin has lost up to 23,000 troops
Vehicle hit appears to be an infantry fighting vehicle BMP-2, not a "tank." The explosives appear to be an 82mm or smaller mortar round.

Government Corruption
Biden's New Ministry of Truth Is Already Expanding Its Scope
[PJMEDIA] When Politico revealed the existence of the Board in an offhanded statement buried 60 paragraphs down in its Wednesday "Politico Playbook," it said that the Department of Homeland Security was "standing up a new Disinformation Governance Board to coordinate countering misinformation related to homeland security, focused specifically on irregular migration and Russia." DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, however, went farther than that almost immediately, saying on Thursday: "We have just established a mis- and disinformation governance board in the Department of Homeland Security to more effectively combat this threat not only to election security, but to our homeland security." And when Jen Psaki
...a valley girl who woke up one morning and found she was spokeswoman for the U.S. Department of State under Obama. A new American success story, under Biden she became spokeswoman for the whole administration, and she was even able to get her sister a job...
defended Biden’s new Ministry of Truth on Thursday, she went farther still: "We know there has been a range of [disinformation] out there about a range of topics, I mean, including COVID for example, and also elections and eligibility."

Was Psaki announcing more responsibilities for the Disinformation Governance Board, beyond what Politico had reported and what Mayorkas had said? It was hard to tell, as she sounded as if she was simply pointing out some of the areas in which supposed "disinformation" had circulated. However,
Caliphornia hasn't yet slid into the ocean, no matter how hard it's tried...
she is the press secretary. What she says is generally the official line of the Biden administration, the guys that caused the debacle in Afghanistan
...the pack of self-imagined masterminds of strategy and intrigue at the service of the Biden Crime Family and a grateful nation...
. If she didn’t mean to say that the Disinformation Governance Board will be clamping down on what Biden’s handlers claim is "disinformation" about COVID and eligibility (we already know from Mayorkas that the Board will be working against election "disinformation"), she will have to make an additional clarifying statement. Whether or not she does that, it is also true that when Fox’s Jacqui Heinrich asked for more details about what exactly the Disinformation Governance Board would be doing, Psaki professed not to have much information: "I really haven’t dug into this exactly, I mean, we of course support this effort but let me see if I can get more specifics."

Yes, of course Psaki supports this flagrantly unconstitutional effort to police what Americans say and think. She even professed to be surprised that anyone would oppose this sinister new initiative: "It sounds like the objective of the board is to prevent disinformation and misinformation from traveling around the country in a range of communities. I’m not sure who opposes that effort."

Narco-Banners Promise More Violence in Mexican Border State Capital
[Breitbart] Narco-banners hung by cartel gunmen this month in the capital of a Mexican border state promise more violence and exposes alleged rivals and their areas of operation.

Unknown gunmen suspected of being part of the Gulf Cartel hung the banners this month in various parts of Ciudad Victoria.

The banner features the photographs of 12 individuals alleged to be members of the Cartel Del Noreste faction of Los Zetas. The banner claims that those members of the CDN-Los Zetas are behind murders, kidnappings, and extortion in the region.

In addition to listing the individuals and their photographs, the banner also mentions the neighborhood where they operate; primarily on the city’s eastern side.

The Gulf Cartel and the CDN-Los Zetas are waging a long-term turf war for control of Ciudad Victoria.

For several months now, the Gulf Cartel has been sending teams of gunmen and carrying out targeted killings in Ciudad Victoria to take control from the CDN-Los Zetas. The Gulf Cartel originally lost control of the region in 2010 when it went to war with its former enforcers, Los Zetas. Since then, the two cartels have been fighting on and off for control of parts of Tamaulipas.

Bomb blast in a passenger van in Kabul kills at least one person, officials say, in the second explosion in the Afghan capital in two days; Talib gov’t increased Kabul checkpoints to no avail
[PUBLISH.TWITTER]

A kaboom in a passenger van in Kabul on Saturday killed at least one person, officials said, in the second explosion in the Afghan capital in two days, as security concerns rise on the eve of the Moslem holiday of Eid al-Fitr.

"One woman was killed and three more injured," Khalid Zadran, a front man for Kabul’s commander, told Rooters.

A day earlier, a kaboom killed more than 50 worshipers after Friday prayers at a Kabul mosque amid a spate of mosque attacks during the Moslem holy month of Ramadan.

One witness to the passenger van blast, Ali Maisam, 19, who was waiting outside a nearby bakery at the time, said he saw a number of bodies.

"I saw people coming out of the minibus with bloody and burnt faces... I saw that four bodies were taken out and a woman was among the dead," he said.

No one has grabbed credit for the blast, but most previous bombings have been claimed by an Afghan offshoot of ISIS.

Security concerns have risen across Afghanistan as the country prepares to mark Eid al-Fitr on Sunday under Taliban

rule for the first time in more than 20 years, after the group was removed from power following a US invasion in 2001.

The Taliban retook power last August after foreign forces pulled out of the country.

Taliban authorities announced on Saturday that Eid would be marked the following day, leading to raucous rounds of celebratory gunfire in the streets of Kabul late on Saturday night.

Germany: Feminists and squatters kick off early May Day protests in Berlin
Ugh. More Black Bloc nonsense, whatever they call themselves. Happy May Day, y’all.
[DW] Thousands of people marched through the German capital to protest against violence against women ahead of May Day. The crowd dispersed following festivities with the police.

Following a couple of years of limited actions due to the coronavirus (aka COVID19 or Chinese Plague)
...the twenty first century equivalent of bubonic plague, only instead of killing off a third of the population of Europe it kills 3.4 percent of those who notice they have it. It seems to be fond of the elderly, especially Iranian politicians and holy men...
pandemic, Berliners erupted into the streets on Saturday to launch this year's May Day protests and festivities.

A feminist demonstration marched under the slogan of "Take back the night" protesting violence against women. German news agency DPA estimated that around 2,500 people were taking part in the march, accompanied by a heavy police presence.

Hundreds of protesters also took part in various other activities around the city on Saturday, including protests against rising rent, and the planned opening of a new cop shoppe in the neighborhood of Kreuzberg.

Earlier on Saturday morning, a group of housing activists occupied a vacant hostel in the center of the capital before police evicted them.

"While thousands of people live in crappy mass accommodation, are pitted against each other and have no safe home, 80 rooms have stood here empty for years," the Hotels to Housing group wrote on Twitter.

Berlin has a long history of May Day marches and protests, and large demonstrations are expected for Sunday, May 1 — a day traditionally celebrated by the left for its historical significance to the workers' movement.

A "revolutionary May Day demo" is planned for Sunday evening with police warning of potential violence at an "autonomous," or anarchist, protest in the capital.

But Saturday's main event was the feminist march through Berlin. While this kicked off peacefully, arrests were also reported. Protesters reportedly chanted "No God, no state, no patriarchy."

A news hound for the Berlin Tagesspiegel newspaper wrote on Twitter that the first festivities occurred as police tried to forcefully remove individuals from the protest.

The protest then spontaneously dissolved, leaving the police surprised, according to reports. This came after reports of repeated festivities between protesters and the police.

BERLIN PREPARED FOR OUTBREAKS OF VIOLENCE
Berlin Interior Minister Iris Spranger told the public broadcaster RBB that some 6,000 coppers were being deployed for the weekend.

Officers have also been brought in from other German states, although protests are also expected in other major German cities.

She said that the police would "intervene massively if it came to festivities."

"Of course, we know that it could come to violence, and it most probably will," she told the radio station.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Mossad operates in Iran, foils IRGC plot to kill Israeli diplomat, US general
[Jpost] Iran's Quds Force reportedly also planned to assassinate a senior American military general in Germany and a journalist in France.

The Mossad – operating in Iran – apprehended and interrogated an Iranian national who was leading a plot to kill an Israeli diplomat and a US general, sources have confirmed. An audio recording released on Saturday showed a photo of Mansour Rasouli admitting he had been ordered to establish a cell to assassinate a worker at the Israeli Consulate in Istanbul, a US general stationed in Germany and a journalist in France.

Rasouli was arrested and questioned in Iran, a rarity as the Mossad regularly operates in conjunction with foreign intelligence services to thwart attacks but almost always from outside the Islamic Republic.

Officials said the planned attack shows the threat the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps poses is not isolated to Israel and needs to be confronted accordingly.

News of the thwarted plot was first reported by London-based Iran International on Saturday.

The Quds Force, the IRGC branch responsible for overseas operations, planned to carry out the assassinations via drug cartels, with the Islamic Republic reportedly willing to pay over $1 million for the targets.

The planned hits were organized by a member of Quds Force’s Unit 840 stationed in Europe, who was paid $150,000 to “prepare for the assassinations” by using his connections to various European drug lords.

Unit 840 is a relatively secretive operational unit that organizes terrorist infrastructure outside Iran against Western targets and opposition groups, according to the IDF.

Defense officials said the failed assassinations join a long list of similar plots, including recent ones in Kenya and Colombia.

Turkish, British and American reports over the last few years have accused Iran of using major international crime organizations to help advance its goals abroad, which include carrying out terrorist plots. According to reports, Iranian intelligence has employed the Zindashti cartel, headed by heroin kingpin Naji Sharifi Zindashti, to assassinate or abduct Iranian dissidents living in Turkey since 2015.

In 2020, Turkish police said 13 people connected to Zindashti were arrested on charges of collaboration with Iran’s intelligence operations.

In February, Turkish media reported that Turkish and Israeli intelligence forces foiled an Iranian assassination attempt on the life of Israeli businessman Yair Geller. In October 2021, it was reported that Israeli businessmen, including Teddy Sagi, were the targets of Iranian terror in Cyprus.

The Times of Israel shares the interview mentioned in the article, possibly of interest if you speak Farsi or read Hebrew, dear Reader:

Emirati plane carrying foreign military officers arrives in occupied Socotra archipelago
[HODHOD] An Emirati plane carrying 16 military commanders, including foreigners believed to be of British and Zionist entity nationality has arrived in the UAE-occupied Socotra archipelago, informed sources told Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of...
Press Agency on Thursday.

The sources confirmed that British and Zionist military leaders arrived on the island, with the aim of putting the final touches on the planned Emirati-Zionist military base on Abdul-Kuri Island.

The UAE has carried out a 90-mile long military construction on Abdul-Kuri Island, in the west of Socotra archipelago, including a dirt runway, sea ports and roads, in addition to fencing an area as a monitoring center for the Zionist entity Navy towards the Gulf of Aden and Bab al-Mandab Strait near the Horn of Africa during the past six months, after the island’s residents were displaced to Qusayr area in Hadhramaut province.

The UAE also imposed its control over 6 oil sectors on the occupied island of Abdul-Kuri.

Elon Musk: 'Far Left Hates Everyone, Themselves Included,' Calls for 'More Love'
[BREITBART] Elon Musk said Friday people on the far left have a deep dislike for others and themselves, but added he was not a fan of the far right.

"The far left hates everyone, themselves included!" he wrote in a Twitter post that morning.

He later appeared to clarify his comments, writing, "But I’m no fan of the far right either. Let’s have less hate and more love."

Followers made their opinions on the issue known in their replies.

"Less hate requires content moderation. It just does," one user claimed while another said, "There is no far right. Anyone who is even slightly right of center is far right for the left."

Europe
Russia's Natural Gas Strategy | Peter Zeihan on Europe Energy Crisis
[YouTube] Moscow has begun limiting natural gas supply to Poland and Bulgaria as Russia seeks to increase #energy pressure on Europe. Ostensibly these moves are to encourage European buyers of natural gas to pay their bills in rubles. But Russia has a longer-term goal in mind.

Many private players within Germany, #Austria and #Hungary especially are lobbying their respective governments to allow them to continue doing business with Russia in rubles, hoping to sidestep sanctions.

Why cut gas supplies to #Bulgaria and Poland? Both have older infrastructure linkages to Russia dating back to their status as former members of the Soviet Union. Both also serve as transit states to downstream customers.

#Russia can limit gas deliveries to Poland and Bulgaria without hurting primary consumers--and significant trade partners--in places like Germany, Austria and Hungary.

Russia is also betting that Bulgaria and Poland will tap newer gas transit lines to distribute within their networks, which will then allow Moscow to pursue a variety of legal remedies against the two EU states.

This is all being done with an eye of exacerbating the considerable EU and NATO cohesion that has seen a broad constellation of political, economic and military support for the Ukrainians since the Russian invasion began.

Even if Europeans are broadly supportive of Ukraine conceptually, the Russians know that when the rubber hits the road (or more bluntly, if the natural gas doesn't flow), Berlin and Vienna and Budapest will prioritize local economic and energy concerns over an abstract sense of supporting democracy in Ukraine.

All of this to a point, though. The Europeans are showing many signs of shaking off decades of inertia and wishful thinking when it comes to finally doing the hard work of weaning off Russian energy. We see this most clearly when it comes to updating oil transport infrastructure.

Russia needs to move quickly before buyers like Germany can easily source alternative crude supplies, and before its own fields must be shut-in due to a lack of buyers. Which makes natural gas the last strategic link. Moscow must walk a narrow line between applying enough pressure to break the European alliance, but not so much that Germany and its neighbors become convinced to sever its energy dependencies on Russia.

Devastating tornado rips through Kansas destroying hundreds of homes - as 40 million people across US remain under severe storm threat
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news] And thus begins the annual excitement of living in Tornado Alley. If swksvolFF would be so kind as to repeat his previously shared prep list, we’ll be good to go.
  • The storm system that passed through the Central Plains will continue moving east and bring strong winds, hail, and tornadoes, to over a dozen states

  • Multiple rounds of severe thunderstorms and heavy rain will hit parts of the Plains, Midwest and South well into the week

  • As the storms continue to move into the Midwest it could bring tornadoes, large hail, damaging winds and localized flash flooding

  • A massive tornado crashed down in Andover, Kansas, ripping through homes, and community centers as counties throughout the state issued warnings

  • Videos from residents and storm chasers show the tornado's devastation on the city, with vehicles being tossed at the local YMCA that lost part of its roof

  • Neighboring cities have dispatched emergency workers to assist Andover as police warn others to stay away

  • The tornado came just days after the 31st anniversary of the deadly Andover tornadoes that killed 21

Fighting Breaks Out in Ethiopia’s Amhara Despite 'Humanitarian Cease-fire'
[Garowe] Æthiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed announced a humanitarian cease-fire five weeks ago, but it is already beginning to fray. In the northern region of Amhara, fighting had subsided. But, last week, it erupted again.

VOA spoke to witnesses who got caught up in the fighting when turbans from the Fano militia group, on the border of the Oromia zone, in Amhara, allegedly opened fire on civilians close to the town of Shewa Robit.

Wendowessen Mamo says he was 3 kilometers away when the conflict erupted.

"Molale, the epicenter of the conflict, is almost burned to the ground like Ataye town was, where three such ethnic-based conflicts happened in the space of a year," he added.

The hills of Amhara have been the scene of fighting between federal government forces, the Tigray People's Liberation Front (TPLF), and militia groups for months.

Most people who spoke to VOA said they want to see peace now — among them Demeku Ali Abdu, who says her son was taken and killed after TPLF troops occupied her house last year.

"When I confirmed my child's death, I felt so alone," she said, as she started to cry. "I felt bereft for my future. And also, I thought about his two children growing up without a father. I hate to live without him."

Ahmed Mohammed Seid, part of a local militia who fought to push the TPLF out of his hometown, hopes the fighting will soon end for good. Seid said he hopes conflict will never return to his home. He believes that all parties involved in the conflict have learned lessons, and "I hope every person strives for the prevalence of peace."

However,
a hangover is the wrath of grapes...
a spokesperson for the local government said the presence of the TPLF in Amhara has emboldened other holy warrior groups. Jemal Hassen, Oromo special zone government spokesperson, said, "Both TPLF and Oromo separatists have a common goal or target. Their marriage seems to have become more concrete as they have common agendas of dismantling the state apparatus and retaking control of politics."

The special zone is an enclave of ethnic Oromos surrounded by the Amhara region.

In January, Abiy announced a national dialogue with the aim of bringing peace to the country. But the initiative has been criticized for failing to include many of the factions engaged in conflict, including the TPLF.

Æthiopian analyst Kiram Tadesse said, "There was optimism from all parties involved. Divergence has also started to emerge among these opposing parties, especially among those that are not included, and its credibility has been questioned."

Syrian president grants amnesty to non-fatal ‘terrorist crimes’
[Rudaw] Syrian Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
The Scourge of Hama...
announced Saturday a general amnesty for those Syrians who have been involved in "terrorist crimes" before April 30, 2022, excluding those that led to the death of human beings - state media

"A general amnesty would be given to terrorist crimes committed by Syrians before April 30th, 2022, except those which led to death to a human being," the state-owned SANA cited a decree by Assad.

Syrians began an uprising against Assad family’s decades-long rule in 2011, leading to a civil war which has so far claimed the lives of over 350,000 civilians and combatants, according to the United Nations
...an organization conceived in the belief that we're just one big happy world, with the sort of results you'd expect from such nonsense...
(UN).

Assad’s troops, with the support of Russia and Iran, have been able to regain control of most parts of the country which were taken by rebels who are considered by Damascus as "terrorists" in the first years of the uprising. Although Syrian army has not clashed with the Kurdish forces - which controls the northeast party of the country - except for a number of skirmishes, the state media sometimes describes them as "terrorists" as well.

The amnesty comes a couple of days before the Islamic feast, Eid al-Fitr.

De Blasio still gets NYPD security, despite refusal to pay for misuse
[NYPOST] Former Mayor Comrade Bill de Blasio
...cryptocommie mayor of New York and for some reason a Dem candidate for president in 2020. Corrupt and incompetent, his qualifications for office seem to consist of being married to a black woman, with whom he honeymooned in Cuba. continues to be chauffeured around town by an NYPD security detail despite refusing to pay taxpayers back nearly $320,000 that city Sherlocks say he owes for misusing the perk while in office, The Post has learned.

Since leaving City Hall four months ago, de Blasio and wife Chirlane McCray have had a team of six NYPD detectives and a sergeant assigned to be their personal limousine and security service, police sources said.

The cops rotate so that least two are always on call to service the former First Couple from early morning to late at night.

They routinely drive them around town, including to restaurants, Prospect Park for long walks, and the Park Slope YMCA where de Blasio enjoys working out.

"When we began our nuclear activity, our goal was indeed to build a bomb." The politician and son of an Ayatollah admitted that the goal of constructing a nuclear bomb was to use it as a "means of intimidation and to strike fear in the hearts of the enemies of Allah." Motahari continued by stating that the plan by the regime had been to keep the nuclear program secret until such time as they were ready to perform a nuclear test. "It would then have been a done deal, like in Pakistain," he said, arguing that the world tends to take seriously countries that have nuclear bombs like Pakistain and North Korea

'A shield and a sword’ - The inside story of Egypt's 1973 victory over Israel
The outside world observed Egypt losing, along with Syria, Jordan, and all their little friends, but Egypt is a special, magical place.
[AlAhram] War veterans Mohammed Abbas Mansour and Mahmoud Khalaf, who served in the 1973 October War, tell Ahmed Eleiba about the role played by the artillery corps to liberate Sinai and what is needed to protect Egypt

General Mohammed Fawzi, who served as minister of defence after the June 1967 War, wrote in his memoirs: "The War of Attrition [1967-1970] was an urgent necessity for Egypt and the Arabs and its value was demonstrated in the expertise acquired by the leadership, the Office of the Chief-of-Staffs and other agencies which, once they were reorganised on modern scientific bases, began to ready themselves to liberate the territory that had been usurped by force."

Fawzi’s remarks provide the context for General Chief-of-Staff Mohammed Abbas Mansour’s account of the artillery corps’ preparations for the battle to liberate Sinai. He was a lieutenant colonel at the time, and appointed as an artillery commander in 1973.

We on the other hand, have not done the same after getting our ass handed to us in Afghanistan last year or learning from the whole 9/11 attack. And we are likely not learning from what is happening on the Southern border...where a shadowy asymmetric proxy war is being waged against us by China.

We didn't learn from the Chinese successful proxy war either with our overt virtue signaling proxy war in the Ukraine, where we stupidly announce every bit of tech and aid that we send to the Ukrainians...and the Russians simply wait for it to hit the ground and target the aid with precision long range missile fire...we are led by absolute idiots.

#4  I always wondered why the Egyptian Army that performed so poorly in 1948, 1956, and 1967 did so well in 1973. They had excuses in 1956, for example, but why did the Egyptians do so well during the period during and immediately following the Canal Crossing and then quickly lapse back into mediocrity thereafter?

Kenneth M. Pollack's Arabs At War: 1948-1991 (2004) in its Egyptian chapter has an intriguing theory. That they did not get better at combined arms warfare and tactics. His supposition is that the Egyptian High Command read the Israeli books on doctrine, marked out the locations of the Israeli units and then the Staff wargamed, wargamed and then wargamed so more. Instead of uniformly upgrading their junior officers skills they instead developed a step-by-step series of instructions to "Move here, do that, and form a defense here against the Israelis that will show up there" all orchestrated like the instructions to a play. Then wargamed it again and again until they had the best plan... This worked great at the beginning and was *cough* "not so great" during the encirclement of the Egyptian Third Army (they Israelis just refused to do the things they were expecting).

#7  The fact that the Egyptian army fought well at the beginning of the war is true, compared to its performance in previous wars, but nevertheless its army in the Sinai was cut off from supplies and forced to surrender, and Egypt was only rescued from complete loss of that army by international
pressure from the USA and USSR. That army was forced to give up all its weapons, if my memory is correct.

Israeli field hospital ends Ukraine operations after six weeks
Gettin' outa town?
[Jpost] The hospital treated over 6,000 patients and its return is not the end of Israel's humanitarian aid to Ukraine.

The Israeli field hospital Kohav Meir (Shining Star) has finished its operations and all volunteers returned to Israel on Friday morning after spending six weeks in Ukraine, where they treated more than 6,000 patients.

The humanitarian aid project, led by the Foreign and Health ministries, Sheba Medical Center and other Israeli hospitals and HMOs, and supported by the Shusterman Fund, as well as the Joint Distribution Committee.

Israel will continue granting Ukraine humanitarian assistance, a Health Ministry statement noted.

The hospital opened on March 22 and is named after former prime minister Golda Meir, who was born in Ukraine and founded the Foreign Ministry’s Agency for International Development, Cooperation and Aid program, which oversaw the mission.

Over 60 members of Sheba’s medical staff, even under the threat of Russian missiles, worked in the hospital and operated at the request of Kyiv itself, which asked that the hospital be constructed as part of Israel’s humanitarian efforts to help Ukraine.

The hospital included a triage area; an ER ward; men’s, women’s and children’s wards; labor and delivery facilities, imaging and telehealth technologies, mental health services, a lab, a pharmacy and an outpatient clinic.

Proposal to memorialize man killed by Kyle Rittenhouse tabled after meeting chaos
[NY Post] A public meeting in Kenosha, Wis., descended into chaos Monday night as one resident accused the parks commission of quietly trying to approve a proposal to memorialize one of the two men killed by Kyle Rittenhouse in 2020.

The commission ultimately tabled the proposal after multiple residents showed opposing the placement of a memorial tree and plaque commemorating Anthony Huber
...the sweet, 26 year old avid skateboarder-cum-girlfriend strangler with a fondness for summer riots filmed trying to brain young Kyle with a skateboard. He got himself killed when he tried to take young Kyle’s gun...
at Anderson Park.

Huber was captured on video chasing Rittenhouse and attempting to hit him with a skateboard before Rittenhouse fatally shot him in the chest during protests on Aug. 25, 2020.

The proposal was requested earlier this month by Huber’s girlfriend Hannah Gittings, according to the commission’s agenda, and it flew under the public’s radar until Kevin Mathewson, a former Kenosha alderman and current investigative journalist, published an article about the issue on his website.

Mathewson attended Monday’s meeting and engaged in a testy exchange with the commission, whom he accused of breaking the law, prompting Alderman Eric Haugaard to repeatedly slam his gavel.

#15  ^ The Daily Mail presents US domestic news in a way very few national news outlets do. Most national outlets over the years have chosen sides on the political divide, making them unreadable.

The Daily Mail is shrill, coarse, and often humorous. It is, as the dateline suggests, where America gets its news.

But there's good news: if you have a better source or article, you can post it yourself. We don't mind, really.

#18  We don't mind, really.

We’re always pleased to get better sources. So long as the source really is better, that is either more insightful or closer to the geography and players in question.

It’s true that some things tagged as War on Terror are not directly jihadi or anti-jihadi action. Narco gangs and migrant/illegal adventures, for example. But over the past three or four decades the narco gangs of Latin America and the khat/captigon/opium smugglers of the Middle East and North Africa have formed business partnerships bolstered by intermarriage with several of the major jihadi franchises. Off the top of my head, so you’ll want to check: Hezbollah with the Iran Revolutionary Guard and separately Al Qaeda in Latin America, shipping primarily cocaine and some marijuana north to the U.S. and east via North Africa to Europe; Al Qaeda in the Maghreb shipping Afghan opium and heroin across North Africa west to Europe and farther west to the U.S., and on the return trip shipping Latin American cocaine and marijuana north into Europe. Separately, the Houthis in Yemen and Al Shabaab in Somalia have the khat trade, supplying their compatriots in Europe and America, and ISIS along with loads of amateurs make and sell captagon across the Arab Middle East.. So keeping track of key narco gangs is another WoT play.

Then there are the huge flows of illegal migrants and asylum seekers to Western Europe and the U.S./Canada. While nominally fleeing ISIS rampaging across Iraq and Syria in 2015, it quickly became clear that most were not innocents fleeing depredations, but those who wanted to take advantage of Western generosity, those who saw themselves as colonizing the West for Islam, and thousands of trained jihadis hidden among them to prepare for major terror attacks. The recent trials in Paris and Brussels of members of the huge cell that staged multiple nearly-simultaneous attacks on the Bataclan theater among others in November, 2015 brought out that quite a few members blithely travelled around Europe and back and forth to the ISIS caliphate that sprawled across the border between Iraq and Syria buried in the flow of so-called asylum seekers. So keeping track of asylum seekers/migrants highlights ratlines connecting various nests of jihadis in the West, including Australia.

The Black Bloc or anarcho-communist syndicalists of Antifa, et al are a bit more of a reach, but the red Communist totalitarians and the green Moslem totalitarians support each other as each plans to take advantage of the successes of the other.

But most of the America stuff is on Page 3: Non-War on Terror and Page 6: Seedy Politics. So if you stick to pages 1 (WoT), 2 (WoT Background/Politics), and 4 (Opinion), you should be able to avoid exposure to most of the things you dislike.

#19  Incidentally, the Daily Mail and Breitbart are two of our go-to sites for jihadi news in Europe, Britain, Australia and the U.S. The New York Post is another consistent source. If you have better sources for those regions, or want to improve our coverage in those areas by scouring our usual sources instead of waiting for us to do so, please have at it. Rantburg is a group project, Pink Charlie Sperens6603, as you know since you’ve watched regular commenters submitting articles from their particular areas of interest over the past two decades.

Ending WFH is 'RACIST'! Apple staff tell CEO Tim Cook that forcing them back to the office will make tech firm 'younger, whiter and more male-dominated'
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news]
  • 'Apple Together,' a group of about 200 Apple employees, wrote an open letter on Friday condemning the company's choice to bring staffers back to its offices

  • CEO Tim Cook wrote in an email to staffers that they would need to work in the office one day a week, gradually ramping up to three days a week by mid-May

  • The group said that the shift back to in-person will make the company 'younger, whiter, more male-dominated, more neuro-normative [and] more able-bodied'
But older workers are more likely to have work-appropriate attire and trustworthy vehicles, so arguably it will actually work the other way round.
  • They said it will lead to 'privileges' - like location, age, race and gender - 'deciding who can work for Apple, not who'd be the best fit'

Caucasus/Russia/Central Asia
Ukrainian Perspective: Invasion of Ukraine: April 30th, 2022
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Korrespondent] 23:23 The Armed Forces of Ukraine eliminated nine enemy air targets in a day: two Su-25 attack aircraft and seven drones were destroyed.

23:21 Zelensky: "There is still a lot of work ahead. The occupiers are still on our land, still do not recognize the obvious failure of their so-called "operation". We still need to fight and send all our forces to expel the occupiers. And we will do it .Ukraine will be free."

23:08 Ukraine is switching to NATO weapons , Zaluzhny said following a conversation with the head of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff Mark Milley: "We discussed with my American colleague a promising model of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Obviously, we are forced to abandon Soviet weapons and equipment and switch to NATO samples. And the sooner we start this process, the sooner we will complete it."

23:03 Russian saboteurs can get into the rear of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on stolen cars, masquerading as volunteers, warns the head of the Luhansk OVA Serhiy Gaidai. According to him, for such provocations, in particular, a bus with the inscription School , which disappeared the day before on the way to Popasnaya, can be used.

22:42 Russian military aircraft An-30 violated the airspace of Sweden and after a short period of time left it, Defense Minister Peter Gultkvist said. He called such actions "unacceptable" and said that Sweden "will respond through diplomacy."

22:40 The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation stated that 18,849 people, including 2,359 children, were "evacuated" to Russia from "dangerous regions of the Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics, Ukraine" in a day. In total, since the beginning of the "special operation", according to the Kremlin, 1,062,692 people have been "evacuated", including 192,688 children.

22:36 The leader of the Belarusian opposition Svetlana Tikhanovskaya said in an interview with the Voice of America that she had handed over to the United States evidence of the participation of the Lukashenka regime in the war against Ukraine. According to her, this is "massive evidence of missile launches from our territory, the movement of Russian equipment on the territory of Belarus." In addition, Tikhanovskaya handed over "a list of companies and countries that helped to circumvent sanctions."

22:24 Arestovich said that for the past four days "there is no movement of Russian troops on the territory of Ukraine." According to him, troops are not being transferred to Izyum at all, but the wounded, broken equipment and the dead go back.

"A lot of people were killed. Attacks on the headquarters of the Airborne Forces, strikes on the headquarters of the 2nd Army Army - these are about 600 corpses according to the most optimistic forecasts for them. These are senior officers. They began to lose combat readiness, there are no supplies," the adviser to the head of the OP said.

22:12 In the Kherson region, the cellular communication of all Ukrainian operators has disappeared. The same applies to mobile Internet, reports Suspіlne. The company Vodafone told the publication that "it's definitely not a breakdown."

21:37 The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation declares that in Nikolaev "militants" conduct "punitive raids", checking residents "for signs of pro-Russian views they have." All suspects are allegedly "detained and subjected to torture, threatened with transfer to the SBU, as well as physical violence against relatives."

Moscow also claims that the Armed Forces of Ukraine mined the dam of the Nikolaevsky reservoir in the city of Marganets, Dnepropetrovsk region, "which they themselves plan to blow up," blaming Russian troops for this.

20:53 Kuleba, in an interview with Xinhua, said that Kiev offered Beijing to become one of the guarantors of Ukraine's security. According to him, this decision demonstrates our country's respect and trust in China. He also expressed hope that China would call Russia for a ceasefire.

20:50 The evacuation from the Popasnaya Luhansk region was suspended, the head of the OVA Serhiy Gaidai said: "Until there is complete information about yesterday's incident with the shelling of our evacuation transport by an enemy DRG, the evacuation from Popasnaya will be suspended."

20:37 From under the rubble at Azovstal, they managed to extract 20 civilians - mostly women and children - who were handed over for evacuation. As the deputy commander of the Azov regiment, captain Svyatoslav Palamar (Kalina), said, the rescue operation is currently ongoing, civilians are being pulled out from under the rubble with cables. According to the agreements, they should be taken to Zaporozhye.

According to Kalina, the silence regime, which was supposed to start at 06:00, began only at 11:00, but as of now, both sides adhere to it. The evacuation convoy, which was supposed to arrive at six in the morning, arrived only at 18:25. "As of 19:40, we transferred 20 civilians to the agreed place, who were released from the rubble," Palamar said.

He also stressed that for unknown reasons, the wounded who urgently need help are not being evacuated. Palamar urged to resolve this issue as soon as possible.

Earlier, information appeared in local public pages that buses with UN symbols were seen in Mariupol.

20:29 In Zaporozhye, where refugees from Donbass gather, the police began "filtration measures," said Anatoly Kurtev, secretary of the City Council. According to him, law enforcement officers will go from apartment to apartment to check the IDPs. The police can "check documents, ask various questions, conduct a superficial check or inspection", as well as check the presence of temporarily displaced persons in the apartments.

20:25 Zelensky said that he talked with Johnson, discussed the situation at the front and in Mariupol, defense support for Ukraine and the necessary diplomatic steps to achieve peace.

20:01 Residents of the occupied village of Rozovka, Zaporozhye region, told Babel that the Russian invaders are recruiting people to clean up Mariupol. They promise to "pay" for this: 10,000 rubles for removing rubble, 30,000 for collecting corpses. When people clarified how they would pay, they were told that a dry ration equivalent to these thousands.

The locals are also given Phoenix (DPR) mobile communication cards. Houses closer to the highway are occupied by unknown people.

Earlier today it was reported that in Mariupol houses that local residents were forced to leave are occupied by unknown people.

19:58 Russian troops hit the strip of the Odessa airport from the Crimea, said the head of the OVA Maxim Marchenko. They fired from the Bastion missile system. No one was hurt by the missile strikes.

19:39 The British newspaper The Times published an article about the Ukrainian pilot Stepan Tarabalka, whom they called the "ghost of Kiev." However, the Air Force command stated that Tarabalka was not a "ghost" and did not shoot down 40 aircraft. Major Stepan Taralka died on March 13, 2022 in an air battle.

The Air Force emphasizes: "The ghost of Kyiv is a legendary superhero whose figure was created by the Ukrainians. It is rather a collective image of the pilots of the 40th tactical aviation brigade of the Air Force protecting the sky of the capital."

19:14 Employees of the port of Amsterdam refuse to unload a tanker with Russian diesel fuel, which port workers in Sweden had previously refused, reports the Dutch TV channel NOS.

19:11 Podolyak responded to Lavrov’s statement that, as part of the negotiations, Kiev and Moscow are discussing, among other things, the lifting of sanctions against the Russian Federation: “Russian Minister Lavrov has a strange habit of commenting on things in which he is not personally involved. So, at the negotiations sanctions are not discussed. Because the world imposed them for the occupation and violation of the territorial integrity of Ukraine. The reasons have not been eliminated. Consequently, the sanctions will only increase. But the Russians forever inscribed "denazification and the Russian language" in world history with the blood of peaceful Ukrainians from Bucha, Gostomel, Kharkov, Mariupol and other cities. Now they are synonymous with Russian war crimes. It's time for them to face the truth."

19:05 In the Donetsk direction, the enemy is actively fighting along almost the entire line of collision. The main efforts of the enemy are concentrated on the Limansky, Severodonetsky, Popasnyansky and Kurakhovsky directions in order to take complete control of the settlements of Rubizhnoye, Popasnaya and, probably, a further offensive on Liman, Slavyansk and Barvenkovo, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reports.

19:01 In the Kharkiv region, as a result of the offensive by units of the Defense Forces of Ukraine, control over the settlements of Verkhnyaya Rohanka, Russian Lozovaya, Slobodskoye and Prilesnoye was resumed , the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported.

18:55 The occupiers are attempting an offensive in the directions of Izyum - Barvenkovo and Izyum - Slavyansk, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reports. The enemy continues to concentrate forces and means both in the occupied territories of the Kharkov region and in the Belgorod region of the Russian Federation. Thus, the invaders moved several units to the area of the settlement Volokhov Yar and the city of Izyum. The enemy is also building up the air defense system, conducting aerial reconnaissance of the positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine using drones.

In the Kharkov region, the occupiers forcibly take the population to the territory of Russia and spread disinformation about the seizures of Kharkov, Kyiv and Zaporozhye.

18:38 As a result of a rocket attack on the Odessa region, the runway of the Odessa airport was damaged, its further use is impossible , said the head of the press center of the Security and Defense Forces of the South, Natalya Gumenyuk.

18:00 Russia has concentrated about 20 Caliber missiles in the Black Sea, Ukrainian Defense Ministry spokesman Oleksandr Motuzyanyk said.

17:57 Vereshchuk announced another exchange of prisoners: seven soldiers and seven civilians returned home. One of the soldiers is a woman in her fifth month of pregnancy.

17:55 The EU intends to propose a ban on Russian oil, which will come into force by the end of the year, and until then, restrictions will be introduced gradually, Bloomberg writes, citing officials.

17:51 The Russians killed the captured Azov fighter and sent a photo of his mother's body. The fighter recently appeared in a propaganda video in Russian publics - it showed five captured Ukrainian soldiers who allegedly voluntarily laid down their arms. The video emphasized that the preservation of the life of prisoners of war is guaranteed, as well as compliance with international laws for the treatment of prisoners of war.

17:48 Russian media write that 25 people left the territory of Azovstal.

17:43 The Financial Times writes about a new scheme by Russian oligarchs to circumvent sanctions - they offer to exchange their old British mansions or luxury London apartments for real estate in Dubai without bank transfers or financial verification of the transaction. Moreover, British objects are offered with tangible discounts.

Lawyers from the UAE do not believe too much in the success of such a scheme, since Britain is already quite meticulous about the execution of all documents, and with the start of the hunt for the assets of sanctioned Russians, its vigilance has only increased.

17:39 Podolyak on possible mobilization in the Russian Federation: "Many today are trying to comprehend the likelihood of mobilization in Russia from the point of view of military, economic and political logic. But you need to understand that the Russian state machine thinks in slightly different categories, namely, corruption logic. Mobilization in Russia is a national start-up, an opportunity to milk the last savings from the impoverished population. "Pay or die." The security forces are going to fund the conscripts, and the police leadership is already counting their percentage. The spiders in the bank are preparing to start eating each other."

17:17 In Mariupol, the invaders allowed movement between the Left Bank and other areas of the city on the right bank. Movement is open across the bridge to Mukhino. At the same time, checkpoints were set up to strengthen control, Andryushchenko said.

17:15 The governor of the Kursk region said that several mortar shells were fired at the Krupets checkpoint from the Ukrainian side. There are no casualties, injuries or damage.

17:13 The Azov Regiment showed a video of a Russian tank firing point-blank at a residential building in Mariupol. There were no Ukrainian soldiers in it; in the basement of this high-rise building, 16 civilians were hiding from Russian shells.

17:05 "There is hope" for the evacuation of civilians in Mariupol today , the city council said. And the mayor's adviser Pyotr Andryushchenko "not very officially" added that "there is a real restrained, but optimism that today it will finally be possible to start a large evacuation."

“Buses should be delivered to Port City by the Russian side, so you are aware that anything can happen. But. Ring all the bells and rails in order to be on time and not miss it. silence along the route? he wrote.

17:03 The representative of the Ministry of Defense Oleksandr Motuzyanyk said that Russian troops are gradually increasing the intensity of the offensive in eastern Ukraine simultaneously in all directions. The greatest activity is observed on Slobozhansky and Donetsk. There are signs that the aggressor is preparing for an even greater intensification of hostilities.

17:00 On the eve of the anniversary of the May 2 events in Odessa, law enforcement officers are cleaning up the city from enemy DRGs, the National Police reported. The Russian special services were going to arrange mass riots, protests and riots in the region, using controlled representatives of the underworld. During the searches, weapons, communist paraphernalia, advertising brochures with communist and other prohibited symbols, as well as grenades, cartridges, mobile phones and equipment were found on the suspects.

16:41 Putin signed a decree on the payment of 10 thousand rubles to veterans of the Great Patriotic War who live in the "DPR", "LPR" and "in the liberated territories of Ukraine."

16:39 Zelensky reported on his telephone conversation with Macron and thanked him for his help: "We talked about defense cooperation, interaction on Ukraine's path to EU membership. We are grateful for the humanitarian assistance, the readiness to treat our soldiers. We appreciate the decision to continue the work of the French mission of investigation crimes of the Russian Federation.

16:36 Georgian Foreign Minister Ilya Darchiashvili said that Arestovich's comments to the Georgian government harm relations between the two countries. Earlier, Arestovich said that the Georgian leadership is behaving "somehow strange," but the Georgian people will appreciate the position and statements of the authorities on Ukraine in the upcoming elections.

16:30 The Pechersky District Court of Kiev, on the proposal of the State Bureau of Investigation, seized 51 Belarusian tank cars that crossed the border in Chernihiv region on the eve of the Russian invasion.

After the invasion of the Russians, tank cars actually provided the logistics for the troops advancing in the direction of Chernihiv-Sumy. The tanks were filled with 3,000 tons of Belarusian and Russian diesel fuel. The products were allegedly intended for oil companies within Medvedchuk's sphere of influence.

16:26 Berdyansk, Zaporozhye region, is preparing to switch to paying pensions and salaries in Russian rubles, said "acting mayor" Alexander Saulenko. In addition, the "police" began to work in the city, law enforcement officers, together with the National Guard, patrol the streets.

16:25 Angelina Jolie was spotted in one of the cafes in Lviv. She did not announce her visit to Ukraine.
Could it have been someone else who looked somewhat like her?

16:18 The press center of the JFO denied the information about the undermining of the bridge between Liman and Raygorodok in the Donbass by the Special Operations Forces. In fact, the bridge was destroyed as a result of a Russian air raid. It did indeed have empty boxcars on it to block the passage.

16:11 Macron, in a telephone conversation with Zelensky, promised to increase assistance to Ukraine, French television reported.

15:57 German Economics Minister Christian Lindner said that his country will not pay for gas in rubles: "Turning to Putin, I say very clearly: we will not allow ourselves to be blackmailed. We will continue to pay for Russian gas in rubles. Clearly one thing: we are doing everything possible to become independent from Russia as soon as possible."

15:32 The delegation of the Riga City Hall today handed over 11 modern passenger buses to Kiev as assistance, as well as humanitarian aid, the Kyiv City State Administration reported.

15:30 The defense of Ukraine will go down in military history, said US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin: "Ukrainian hospitals were bombed. Their citizens were executed. Their children were injured. And yet, despite all this, they did an excellent job of protecting their sovereignty. The valor and skill of Ukraine will go down in military history."

15:27 The Russians got a Ukrainian military uniform somewhere and can use it for provocations, warned the head of the Luhansk OVA Serhiy Gaidai: "We have 100% confirmed information that they found several containers with the clothes of our military. How will they use it , we cannot say what provocations they are ready to go to. What we just have not seen in the Luhansk region during the Russian aggression."

15:24 The Australian Olympic Committee will support Ukrainian athletes who want to get a visa to live and train in Australia, said AOC President John Coates.

15:22 The Ukrainian military for the first time told the details of the battle for the airport in Gostomel , which took place on the first day of the Russian invasion. The defenders arrived at the airport early and took up positions. According to their information, an Il-76 transport aircraft with troops was supposed to arrive. The task of the Ukrainian military was to prevent it from landing, or, in the event of its landing, to inflict maximum damage on the enemy. However, instead of the plane, many helicopters flew in, which came as a surprise.

15:20 The White House administration intends to lure leading Russian scientists to the United States , for which they plan to simplify visa requirements for the migration of valuable specialists, writes Bloomberg.

15:13 Russia is running out of stocks of high-precision weapons, writes the Financial Times, citing a source in Western government agencies: "We see that they have to move Caliber missiles from other strategic directions where they can be stored. This indicates that their stocks of precision-guided weapons are being reduced.

Russia's difficulty in resupplying guided weapons was due both to the quality of their industrial base and to Western sanctions that "limit their ability to build up capabilities at a time when they need to have an effect on the battlefield," the source said.

3:08 pm Guterres said lobbyists in the oil, gas and coal industries are "cynically using the war in Ukraine to try to lock in a high-carbon future."

"The transition to renewable energy is critical to restoring the disrupted global energy balance and brings hope to the millions of people who are affected by climate change today." - wrote the UN Secretary General.

14:06 Podolyak says that the Russian side rejects all proposals to rescue people from Mariupol, because it is "symbolic" for the enemy to destroy the city and the Azov regiment protecting it.

13:59 Mayor of Vilnius Remigius Shimashius called on residents of the city and businesses to collect window glass and double-glazed windows for the needs of Ukraine, since many houses were left with broken windows after the shelling. The Lithuanian capital will provide delivery on its own.

13:48 The chief operator of the Mariupol television, Alexander Ratushny, filmed a ten-minute documentary film MARIUPOL 2022. During the blockade of the city, he lived with his family in the shelter of the Mariupol Lyceum, where he made a film about the people who also took refuge there.

13:10 Mayor of Mariupol Vadim Boychenko: "In two years, the Nazis killed 10 thousand civilians in Mariupol. And the Russian invaders killed more than 20 thousand Mariupol residents in two months. More than 40 thousand people were forcibly taken out. This is one of the worst genocides of the civilian population in modern history. The Russian army purposefully and ruthlessly destroys our city and its inhabitants. "

12:07 Ukraine received Mistral anti-aircraft missile systems from Norway, Minister of Defense Bjorn Aril Gramm said.

11:45 Russia tried to exchange Ukrainian civilians for Russian prisoners of war, which is prohibited by the Geneva Convention, Deputy Prime Minister Irina Vereshchuk told the BBC. According to her, the Russian side initially planned to use the Ukrainians forcibly taken out for further exchange. However, Ukraine refused and demanded that Russia return the abducted civilians.

"We know that there are more than a thousand hostages, including almost 500 women. We know that they are in prisons and detention centers in Kursk, Bryansk, Ryazan, Rostov," she said.

In addition, according to Vereshchuk, Russia does not want to give up captured Ukrainian women. Now Kyiv refuses to conduct an exchange without women on the list. She also said that nine civilians were returned to Ukraine with severe injuries, including those with amputated limbs in Russia, and obvious signs of torture are visible.

11:36 Deputy Defense Minister Anna Malyar asks not to write about the liberated villages or cities until this information is published by the Ministry of Defense or the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Also, as part of criminal proceedings, 927 DNA examinations have been scheduled for today.

11:20 Medical examinations for "conscripts" have been canceled in ORDLO. According to Ukrainian intelligence, the Russians have practically exhausted the resource for forced mobilization in the "LDNR", therefore, since April 20, medical examinations of mobilized personnel have been suspended there. The official explanation: "due to the lack of specialists." Potential "conscripts" can no longer obtain documents confirming any health problems.

At the same time, those who have obvious health problems (injury, disability, severe acute illnesses) or managed to obtain the necessary documents earlier are still mobilized, but assigned to logistics units.

The only alternative to forced mobilization is a bribe at established rates (depending on age, specialty and state of health). In particular, in Gorlovka, the amount of a bribe for the purpose of evading service is from 5,000 rubles if paid directly at the place of detention, and upon delivery to the district departments of the "MVD" - from 75 thousand rubles.

10:36 China is in no hurry to buy Russian oil because of Western sanctions against the Russian Federation, even despite the big discounts, writes Oilprice. China's lack of interest in Russian oil is also affected by the costly transportation of Russian cargo due to sanctions, problems with payments and insurance of tankers, as well as long-term contracts between Chinese refiners and oil exporters from the Middle East. In addition, the risks are increasing due to the increasing readiness of the EU for an oil embargo and the likelihood of secondary sanctions.

10:12 In the Donbas, military operations are in a stalemate, Janno Märk, head of the planning department of the General Staff of the Estonian Defense Union, said in an interview with the Estonian edition of ERR. According to him, the most critical situation is now in the Kharkov and Izyum directions - there the Russian army is conducting active operations in order to break through the defense. If they succeed, they will be able to surround the Ukrainian grouping of troops in the Donbass. Those troops that are located on the front line in 2014 can be taken into the boiler, and this will significantly help Russia take control of the administrative borders of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions.

"To a certain extent, a positional war is already going on there today. It can also be said that a stalemate has formed there today, where neither side in this conflict can achieve a significant advantage. It is difficult to say what will happen next, both sides are now developing new tactics," - said the expert.

10:07 The White House is working on a balanced approach to the G20 summit, to which Putin was invited. According to press secretary of the US presidential administration Jen Psaki, advisers are now actively discussing what the format of the country's participation in the November meeting in Indonesia will be. Washington insists that Russia should be excluded from the G20, but China objects to this. Thus, the US does not see an option to completely ignore the Indonesian summit, since then it will be dominated by China and Russia.

10:04 Odessa received new air defense systems, said the representative of the regional military administration, Sergei Bratchuk.

10:03 The General Staff named the estimated losses of the enemy on the morning of April 30:

According to the National Guard, a group of NSU special forces, conducting reconnaissance in one of the Izyum directions, discovered a lot of equipment, a command post and a place of residence for enemy personnel. The intelligence data was promptly received by the fighters of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, who worked on Russian positions with artillery, and the guardsmen made adjustments to the fire.

09:00 British intelligence notes that despite the fact that Russia is trying to overcome the shortcomings of its army, it turns out that it is not very successful. The Russian Federation hopes to correct the problems that previously held back its invasion by geographically focusing combat power, shrinking supply lines and simplifying command and control.

But the Russian army still faces significant challenges. She was forced to unite and redeploy exhausted and scattered units in unsuccessful offensives in northeastern Ukraine. Many of these units are likely to suffer from weakened morale.

Shortcomings in Russian tactical coordination also remain. Lack of unit-level skills and intermittent air support prevented Russia from fully exploiting its combat mass despite localized improvements.

08:57 Military assistance to Ukraine, which is included in Biden's request to the US Congress for $33 billion, is designed to pay for military supplies five months in advance, the Pentagon said. First of all, the United States plans to provide those systems that do not require long and complex preparation and to which Ukrainians can switch in a week.

08:51 Lavrov, in an interview with Xinhua, said that negotiations with Ukraine are going on daily via video link. The agenda includes issues of "denazification", "recognition of new geopolitical realities", the status of the Russian language, and the lifting of sanctions.

As for security guarantees for Ukraine, according to the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry, one of the possible options is "the creation of an institution of guarantor states, among which, first of all, permanent members of the UN Security Council, including Russia and China."

Lavrov stressed that the negotiations are "not easy" because "NATO is doing everything to prevent the completion of the "special operation" by reaching political agreements."

08:42 This morning, the occupiers fired on the neighborhood of Velyka Kostroma in the Krivoy Rog region - they hit the fields, none of the people were injured, head of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Council Nikolai Lukashuk said. 08:23 In the Lugansk region, the enemy launched 16 massive artillery attacks over the past day, said the head of the OVA Serhiy Gaidai. According to him, the Russians are storming Rubizhne and Popasnaya until they are defeated. Near Popasna, the Russians fired on a car with volunteers, there were no casualties.

07:41 During the day on the territory of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions, the Armed Forces of Ukraine repelled 14 enemy attacks. 11 tanks, seven artillery systems, 28 armored vehicles and 14 vehicles were destroyed, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reports in the morning report .

05:56 Rosenergoatom - a division of the Russian state nuclear company Rosatom - sent a group of its nuclear specialists to the Zaporozhye NPP. They require daily reports from the plant management on confidential matters relating to the operation of the nuclear power plant, the IAEA said in a statement. The staff of the Zaporozhye NPP "works under incredible pressure," the Ukrainian side said.

05:10 Pope Francis appealed to Putin three times with a request to allow a vessel flying the flag of the Vatican to evacuate civilians from Azovstal, but all three times his request was rejected, according to the Italian newspaper Il Messaggero.

04:25 War criminals of the Russian Federation will receive the first sentences in at least a year and a half or two , said the Minister of Justice of Ukraine Denys Malyuska.

He clarified that the bulk of the exercises in Germany are being conducted by the Florida National Guard, which already has extensive experience in interacting with the Ukrainian military. Moreover, according to a Pentagon representative, in addition to Germany, at least two more locations have been deployed in Europe outside of Ukraine, where the military of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is being trained to use foreign weapons.

01:01 The Upper House of the Parliament of Canada has supported the recognition of Russia's aggression against Ukraine as genocide, Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Ruslan Stefanchuk said. According to him, the Senate adopted a resolution identical to the one that was recently supported by the House of Commons.

00:43 Zelensky in an interview with the Polish media called the formula for security guarantees for Ukraine, it sounds like this: "people are hours." The bottom line is that the countries - guarantors of security send their military as soon as possible: "No matter how cynical it may sound. The ability to save the number of people depends on the number of terms, weapons. In terms of blood and losses, these are people - hours ... We just we speak from our own experience, and many countries already agree with it. We say: “people are clocks.” We need security guarantees precisely “people are clocks”.

Iraq
19th century Iraq church celebrates first mass since IS defeat
[Rudaw] Dozens of faithful celebrated mass Saturday at a djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
church in northern Iraq for the first time since it was restored after its ransacking by Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
jihadists.

IS swept into Mosul and proclaimed it their "capital" in 2014, in an onslaught that forced hundreds of thousands of Christians in the northern Nineveh province to flee, some to Iraq's nearby Kurdistan region.

The Iraqi army drove out the jihadists three years later after months of gruelling street fighting that devastated the city.

The Mar Tuma Syriac Catholic church, which dates back to the 19th century, was used by the jihadists as a prison or a court.

Restoration work is ongoing and its marble floor has been dismantled to be completely redone.

In September 2021, a new bell was inaugurated at the church during a ceremony attended by dozens of worshippers.

The 285-kilogramme (nearly 630-pound) bell cast in Lebanon Hezbollahstan
...a strong argument in favor of European colonialism, even French colonialism...
rang out on Saturday to cries of joy before the mass got underway, an AFP correspondent said.

The service began with worshippers who packed the church chanting hymns as an organist played.

"This is the most beautiful church in Iraq," said Father Pios Affas, 82, the delighted parish priest.

Affas also paid tribute to those behind the restoration work which, he said, had "brought the church back to its past glory, like the way it was 160 years ago".

Inside the church, ochre and grey marble shone in the nave, where the altar and colonnaded arches were restored and new stained glass installed.

Jihadists had destroyed all Christian symbols, including the holy cross, and parts of the church were damaged by fire and shelling.

Artisans worked diligently to "clean the scorched marble" and restore it, Fraternity in Iraq, a French NGO that aids religious minorities, which helped fund the restoration work said earlier this year.

Outbuildings and rooms on the first floor, where windows have been broken and IS graffiti can be seen, are still due to be repaired.

Mosul and the surrounding plains of Nineveh were once home to one of the region's oldest Christian communities.

Iraq's Christian population has shrunk to fewer than 400,000 from around 1.5 million before the US-led invasion of 2003 that toppled dictator Saddam Hussein.

Nineveh province was left in ruins after three years of jihadist occupation which ended in 2017 when Iraqi forces backed by US-led coalition air strikes pushed them out.

Several monasteries and churches are being renovated but reconstruction is slow, and the Christian population that has fled has not returned.

Pope Francis
...Argentine liberation theologist, born Jorge Mario Bergoglio. He was elected pope in 2013. Rather than setting up shop in Avignon, where he belongs, the first Jesuit Pope chose to reside in the Domus Sanctae Marthae guesthouse instead of the papal apartments. He is big on climate change, against consumerism, and in favor of throwing a blanket over homosexual activity (so to speak) within the clergy. He's not real sure about the Resurrection, about Christ's divinity, and a few other things that would have gotten him burned at the stake a few hundred years ago, but he's hot for a certain South American Earth Mother Goddess...
made a historic visit to the region last year.

Mass Arrests After Anti-Muslim Attack In Ethiopia
[Garowe] Several hundred people have been arrested following a deadly attack on Moslems in the northern Æthiopian city of Gondar, a regional official said on Friday. More than 20 people were killed on Tuesday when heavily-armed "extremist Christians" attacked mourners at the funeral of a Moslem elder and destroyed property belonging to Moslem residents, according to a local Islamic group.

Desalegn Tassew, head of the Amhara region's peace and security bureau, said 373 suspects had been arrested "in relation to the disturbance that happened in Gondar", according to a statement cited by the official Amhara Media Corporation. He also announced a ban on firearms and other weapons until all suspects were arrested.

"We are making legally accountable members of the security forces and leaders who did not assume their responsibility," he added, without elaborating.

The cemetery where the attack occurred neighbours a mosque and church and has been the subject of an ongoing dispute between Moslems and Orthodox Christians, who are the dominant group in Æthiopia. Amhara's regional government said the violence erupted like lava from a volcano as people clashed over using stones from the area for burial purposes, fighting over whether the materials were being taken from the cemetery or church compound.
Ah. So the attacked Muslims did help themselves to Christian grave materials, harvesting from the unbelievers like wheat...or perhaps shearing them like sheep, as prescribed.
In Æthiopia's capital Addis Ababa on Friday, Moslems staged a demonstration over the Gondar violence as they gathered for a mass iftar, the traditional sunset meal breaking the fast during the holy month of Ramadan.

"Justice for Amhara victims in Gondar," they chanted. "We need fair justice."

Afghanistan
Millions of people across 11 provinces in Afghanistan face blackouts after two power transmission towers were blown up

Millions of people across 11 provinces in Afghanistan faced blackouts on Saturday after two power transmission towers were blown up just west of the capital Kabul, authorities said.

The outages come ahead of the Eid al-Fitr holiday that marks the end of the Moslem holy month of Ramadan.

Two pylons in the province of Parwan were bombed late on Friday, cutting off electricity to the capital and neighboring provinces.

"The enemies... have blown up two electricity pylons with bombs," Hekmatullah Maiwandi, a front man for the state-run DABS electricity company, said in a video statement.

Five teams from the firm have been deployed to carry out repairs, he added.

"The pylons are installed on top of mountains and our teams are trying to fix them," Maiwandi said.

Temporary repairs would be performed to partially restore power by Saturday night before a full restoration of the towers can be completed in two weeks, he added.

Police said two suspects have been arrested over the earth-shattering kabooms.

Many residential buildings and businesses in Kabul, a city of about five million people, booted up private generators Saturday to ensure electricity supply ahead of Eid celebrations.

Afghanistan is largely reliant on electricity imported from northern neighbors Uzbekistan and Tajikistan, making cross-country power lines a prime target for turbans.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Terror groups laud Ariel 'heroic operation,' call for escalating attacks
Follow up to this report from yesterday. Arrest of the miscreants can be seen here.
[Jpost] Buoyed by Friday night’s terrorist attack in Ariel and massive support during rallies at the Aqsa Mosque compound (Temple Mount) over the past few weeks, Hamas and other Palestinian terror groups have called for stepping up the fight against Israel. In separate statements, the groups also welcomed the Ariel attack, which resulted in the killing of a security guard.

Hamas officials said over the weekend that they consider the rallies that took place at the compound as a “referendum” in support of the armed “resistance” against Israel.

During the rallies, thousands of Hamas supporters chanted slogans in support of Hamas military commander Mohammed Deif and the group’s leader in the Gaza Strip, Yayha Sinwar. The demonstrators also called on Hamas to bomb Tel Aviv and “blow up the heads of the Zionists.”

“The decision of the Palestinian people is that the resistance is the option and the shortest way to liberate Palestine and Jerusalem,” said Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, who is based in Qatar.

But a leaflet distributed by Fatah activists in east Jerusalem on Friday criticized the worshippers for raising Hamas flags at the holy site. The leaflet also attacked the worshippers for chanting slogans against Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas.

A senior PA official in Ramallah condemned the use of the holy site as a podium for “raising political banners and slandering President Abbas.” The official argued that the pro-Hamas rallies at the Aqsa Mosque compound caused “huge damage” to the Palestinians.

In a video released early Saturday, a masked man claiming to represent the Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, the armed wing of the ruling Fatah faction headed by Abbas, claimed “full responsibility” for the Ariel attack. He said that the attack came “in response to the oppression and violation of the occupation government against Muslim and Christian holy sites.”

The masked man pledged that his group will continue “in the path of glory and martyrdom.”

It was not clear whether the Fatah-affiliated group was indeed responsible for the attack.

The Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) organization said that the Palestinians will “continue the fight against the [Israeli] enemy.”

Commenting on the death of Yahya Adwan, a 28-year-old Palestinian from the village of Azun in the northern West Bank who was shot dead by IDF soldiers during clashes shortly after the Ariel attack, PIJ called on Palestinians to avenge his killing.

Abu Hamza, a spokesperson for PIJ’s armed wing, praised the Ariel attack as a “heroic operation” and a “gift from the Palestinians to all the free people on Al-Quds (Jerusalem) Day.”

...more fully Alexanda Amon Kotey, half-Ghanaian, half-Greek Cypriot, all former British citizen, Alex was known in the press as ‘Ringo’. He recruited at least 25 of his peers in the area west of London, and gleefully beheaded captives for ISIS in Syria. His confession makes his little group sound like a bunch of Big Turbans...
part of the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
kidnap-and-murder cell known as the "Beatles," was sentenced to life in prison Friday, with relatives of victims addressing him and another member directly in the US court.

Kotey, a 38-year-old former British national, pleaded guilty in September, admitting his role in the deaths of four American hostages in Syria as well as the kidnapping and torture of other journalists and relief workers.

He was captured along with another former "Beatle," El Shafee Elsheikh,
... Sudan-born “George”. The British government has stripped both of British citizenship and protections...
by a Kurdish militia in Syria in January 2018 and handed over to US forces in Iraq before being flown to the United States in 2020 to face trial.

Elsheikh was found guilty of all charges earlier this month, and will be sentenced on August 19.

Both men on Friday appeared in the court in Alexandria, near Washington, where the relatives of their victims were given an opportunity to speak.

The nickname was given to the hostage-takers -- who grew up and were radicalized in London -- by their captives because of their British accents.

Active in Syria from 2012 to 2015, the "Beatles" are accused of abducting at least 27 other journalists and relief workers from the United States, Britannia, Europe, New Zealand, Russia and Japan.

Some were executed, their deaths filmed for Islamic State (IS) propaganda videos that shocked the world, while others were released for ransoms.

Kotey did not speak or show any emotion as Judge TS Ellis handed down the sentence, but his lawyers said that he was remorseful and had agreed to meet the families of his victims.

The judge said that as part of the plea bargain, prosecutors had pledged to facilitate his transfer to Britannia within 15 years.

Iraq
Rocket attack targets US-led coalition in western Iraq
[Rudaw] At least one rocket landed kilometers away from a military base housing American troops in western Iraq, marking the latest of several attacks, the US-led coalition confirmed to Rudaw on Saturday.

A rocket landed four kilometers away from Ain al-Asad base in Anbar province at 7:55 pm without causing casualties, the coalition said.

The rocket was fired from Heet city in the province, the force said.

Iraqi Security Media Cell later raised the number of rockets to two, affirming that no casualties were reported.

The facility, home to Iraqi army troops as well, has been subjected to at least three rocket and drone attacks since the start of the year.

Earlier in the month, the US forced foiled a drone attack targeting the base.

In recent months, tens of rockets have targeted Iraqi facilities hosting foreign diplomats and soldiers, including the US embassy in Baghdad.

No group has grabbed credit for the assaults.

Attacks on Iraqi bases, especially those hosting US troops, have increased since the US assassinated top Iranian General Qasem Soleimani and Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF, or Hashd al-Shaabi) deputy commander Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis in Baghdad in January 2020.

The US said at the time that Soleimani was planning imminent action against US personnel in Iraq, a country long torn between the competing demands of its principal allies Washington and Tehran.
Two rockets targeting a base in western Iraq hosting US-led coalition troops on Saturday crashed near the complex without causing casualties or damage, security sources said. The base, controlled by Iraq, is located in the desert in the western Anbar province and hosts foreign troops from the coalition fighting the Islamic State group.

A coalition official told AFP there was "no impact on the installation reported" and "no coalition personnel injuries reported".

A previously unknown group calling itself "International Resistance" claimed the attack on a pro-Iran channel of messaging app Telegram.

Western officials have blamed hardline pro-Iran factions for the attacks, most of which go unclaimed.

The coalition ended its combat mission in Iraq in December, four years after the Baghdad government declared victory over the jihadists. But roughly 2,500 American soldiers and 1,000 coalition soldiers remain deployed in three Iraqi-controlled bases across the country, including Ain al-Asad, to offer training, advice and assistance to national forces.

Day 66 of Invasion; Day 12 of Battle of Donbass
From Militaryland and Understandingwar, link source is the former

- More Ukrainian success in the vicinity of Kharkiv in the north. Russian positions are now far enough from Kharkiv to reduce danger from artillery in that city.

- Russian success in the central part of the front northeast of Slovyansk. Ukraine may not have expect the attack in this place. If the advance continued it would threaten to cut off Ukrainian forces near Lysyyansk from those near Slovyansk. However Russia would need many days and a large force to do this and that would require troops from elsewhere on the front. If it could be done at all.

More Russian troops leaving Mariupol while Ukraine still holds some territory there.

Again significant bombardments by Russia on Ukraine targets. Less so by Ukraine.

Suspects nabbed in killing of Ariel security guard
Follow up to this report from yesterday. See also here.
[IsraelTimes] Two Paleostinians arrested in nearby town; guns allegedly used in West Bank terror attack also seized; concrete barriers placed at site of shooting near settlement entrance

After a 20-hour manhunt, counterterrorism forces arrested two Paleostinians allegedly behind a deadly terrorist attack at the entrance to the West Bank settlement of Ariel late Friday night, officials said.

The two alleged button men were arrested on Saturday evening in the nearby town of Qarawat Bani Hassan. Both of the weapons used in the attack were also seized during the arrest, the Shin Bet security agency said.

The pair, who were arrested at home and reportedly surrendered without a struggle, were taken for further questioning. Paleostinian media named the two as Sameeh Assi and Yahya Marei, both in their 20s.

The arrest operation was conducted by the police Yamam unit, Israel Defense Forces troops and Shin Bet officers.

In the attack on Friday night, the 23-year-old security guard — who was named Saturday evening as Vyacheslav Golev — used his body to shield his fiancee and saved her life. Golev, a 23-year-old former student at Ariel University is survived by his parents and seven siblings in Beit Shemesh, and his fiancee who was also stationed at the guard post but not maimed in the attack.

Footage showed a blue Suzuki vehicle driving up to a guard post, where a gunman in the passenger seat opened fire. The gunman and the driver then both got out and both fired into the guard post before driving off.

The security guard was shot and medics from the Magen David Adom ambulance service declared him dead at the scene.

The button men apparently used improvised Carlo submachine guns, according to an image published by police on Saturday.

Security forces blocked off roads as large numbers of coppers and soldiers launched a massive manhunt for the button men. The IDF said special forces participated in the search.

The attack was claimed by the al-Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigades, a coalition of gangs affiliated with the Paleostinian Authority’s ruling Fatah party.

"We take responsibility for the heroic operation in Ariel that resulted in the death of a Zionist officer. All this activity is a response to the Israeli aggression in Jerusalem," a masked man said in a video circulated on social media.

The terror group was also behind the deadly attack in Bnei Brak last month.

Ariel, a city with over 20,000 residents, and other settlements in the area issued a lockdown order over fears the button men might attack again shortly after the attack.

On Saturday, authorities placed concrete barriers next to the guard post where the attack took place. The barriers are to protect the security guards while they operate outside of the guard post itself.

Suspects in Ariel shooting scoped out attack site, saw it as a weak point — report

[IsraelTimes] Suspected holy warriors observed community’s entrance from above, drove past it twice before killing guard; victim Golev to be buried in Beit Shemesh on Sunday.

Before the attack, the pair drove to the area, went to a high point overlooking the settlement entrance, and observed the community’s gate and its security, the Ynet news site reported.

The attackers, who were from the area, knew the area well and were already familiar with the entrance to the settlement. They had identified the security post as a potential weak point, especially on Friday nights, when there was less security and traffic in the area was light, the report said.

After surveilling the guard post, they drove toward it, and realized that no guards were outside the post. Usually, two guards were outside the settlement gate in two different spots.

The Kan public broadcaster said the attackers drove past the guard post twice before the attack to check the gate and see what the guards were doing.

The suspects first opened fire from inside their vehicle, hitting Golev, but noticed movement in the structure behind him, and realized a second person was inside.

They exited the vehicle and continued firing, aiming to hit the second guard, but did not manage to hit Golev’s fiancée, Victoria Fligelman, who was uninjured in the shooting.

After the attack, the suspected holy warriors drove away for around 20 minutes, traveling a few kilometers, and arrived in an open area, where they torched the vehicle.

The car had an Israeli license plate belonging to another vehicle that had been taken off the road, Ynet said.

Security officials had figured out the attackers’ identities within two hours of the shooting, the report said.

Their homes, both in the same village, were put under surveillance, and on Saturday, special forces approached both houses at the same time. The arrest operation was conducted by the police Yamam unit, Israel Defense Forces troops and Shin Bet officers.

The Israeli troops fired toward the houses, and moments later, the two suspects emerged with their hands raised. Minutes after that, they revealed the location of the guns they used in the attack.

Security forces have determined that the attack was not directed by any terror group, but one of the shooters is affiliated with Hamas, the braying voice of Islamic Resistance®,.

The attack was claimed by the al-Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigades, a coalition of gangs affiliated with the Paleostinian Authority’s ruling Fatah party, however. The terror group was also behind the deadly attack in Bnei Brak last month.

Both of the suspects were barred from entering Israel, and one briefly served time in an Israeli prison at some point, Ynet reported. They are not related to each other.

The lost Jews of Nigeria
Very long, and may play into why the Igbo (Biafra) region of the country is suddenly being hit with Muslim attacks in the very Nigerian war of all against all. Herewith the background section:
[TheGuardian] Until the 1990s, there were almost no Jews in Nigeria. Now thousands have enthusiastically taken up the faith. Why?

Back in the 1970s, when Moshe Ben Avraham was growing up in Port Harcourt, in southern Nigeria, the town was small and fringed by bush villages, and there were no Jews in sight. Ben Avraham wasn’t yet Jewish himself; he wasn’t even "Ben Avraham", for that matter. His Anglican parents gave him the name Moses Walison — still his official name — and they raised him as a churchgoing boy. In this, they were no different from millions of others in their part of the country. One of the first demographic details anyone learns about Nigeria is that while people living up north are predominantly Moslem, those down south are just as overwhelmingly Christian. The minibuses sputtering up and down these southern highways bear slogans like "Jesus is Needful" on their back windows. On billboards, preachers hype their ministries; a prayer meeting is never just a prayer meeting — it is a "global mega powerquake" or a "harvest of miracles". Islam and Christianity have been in Nigeria for centuries, but Judaism has none of that conspicuous history or heritage. In his childhood, Ben Avraham knew nothing about Judaism, and he’d only encountered Israel as a biblical name: "Israel, Abraham, all those things," he recalled.

Then, in 1986, his father died, and a few years later, in the midst of a growing disaffection with his church, Ben Avraham fell ill: a cut on his tongue that set off a severe infection. At the time, he came across a Christian ministry called the White Garment Sabbath, and after one of its white-robed, barefooted priests healed him, he joined the group. In Nigeria, the White Garment Sabbath calls itself a church, and its prayer halls host icons of Christ on the cross. "But they told me that Saturday is the day of worship, the shabbat — not Sunday," Ben Avraham said. It was the first time he’d heard this, but when they offered him proof — careful readings of Genesis and Exodus — he wondered what else he’d been doing wrong. "On my own," he said, "I started to go deeper."
