Russia Fails to Meet Bond Obligations, Triggering Swaps Payout
[Bloomberg] Our trolls may not be getting their paychecks on time

#1  a boon for those that entered into a popular trade pitched by banks in the weeks following Russia’s Feb. 24 invasion of Ukraine -- the so-called basis trade where investors buy both the bonds and credit default swaps. The debt in question has already matured, so holders stand to be paid twice -- first on the notes themselves and again on the insurance.

I guess that's legal, (the rich guys getting paid twice), but maybe it shouldn't be. But it's bad for Russia, so I guess it's O.K.

#3  Whoever wrote the green notes accompanying this is totally clueless about arbitrage and credit risk. The losers are the US counterparties that wrote the credit default swaps, not the government bond issuers.

Russia can easily pay the interest on the notes. It's Janet Yellen who's forcing the likes of PIMCO and other US investment houses to swallow 8,000 percent losses on the credit default insurance policies they wrote.

#4  As I understand, Russia has the cash to pay but is being denied access to the financial mechanism to make the payment. Seems like a bit of a dick move to me, since the people expecting to get paid will not be. But all's fair in love and war and sanctions.

As for those 'green notes' which are *not* about arbitrage, it's a local joke about our local trolls. Right, Ralf?

Goldman Sachs has warned Russia could further restrict the supply of natural gas to Europe in response to the EU's oil ban.

The investment bank said more energy squeezes could seriously dent European growth and send Germany into recession.

New BLM chair appointed to tackle the charity's financial scandals is struggling to manage her OWN finances after filing for personal bankruptcy three times: She is also $120,000 in debt, documents show
[DM]"Good choice"
Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation announced on April 27 the appointment of three people to their board of directors

They included Cicley Gay, 44, an Atlanta-based activist and mother of three who founded a network called The Amplifiers, promoting social change

Gay said she was 'taking time to build efficient infrastructure to run the largest black, abolitionist, philanthropic organization to ever exist in the United States'

Yet on Wednesday it emerged that Gay has herself been declared bankrupt in 2005, 2013 and 2016

Her most recent filing showed Gay had more than $120,000 in debts, including owing $55,000 in student loans and $18,000 for leasing a Lincoln MKZ sedan

She also claimed to have $7,000 in medical expenses and owed $8,000 to two Christian schools, according to the records obtained by The New York Post

The Atlanta activist Black Lives Matter has appointed to straighten out its finances has been declared bankrupt three times, was ordered by a court to attend financial management lessons, and has more than $120,000 in unpaid debt.

Cicely Gay's appointment was announced by BLM's Global Network Foundation (BLMGNF) on April 27, as the group struggles to combat accusations that the money donated has not been wisely spent, or properly accounted for.

The 44-year-old was one of three people appointed to the board, the organization said in a tweet. She subsequently was described as being chair of the board.

She told The New York Times she had been appointed to straighten out the organization's finances, after BLMGFN faced intense scrutiny over its spending of donor cash.

'No one expected the foundation to grow at this pace and to this scale,' said Gay.

'Now, we are taking time to build efficient infrastructure to run the largest Black, abolitionist, philanthropic organization to ever exist in the United States.'

On Wednesday, it emerged that Gay has been declared bankrupt three times, according to federal reports obtained by The New York Post.

Israeli Air Force simulates widescale strike on Iran nuclear facilities
Sending a message.
[IsraelTimes] Military says dozens of fighter jets conduct ’long-range flight, aerial refueling and striking distant targets’ maneuvers over Mediterranean

Dozens of Israeli Air Force fighter jets conducted air maneuvers over the Mediterranean Sea on Tuesday night, simulating striking Iranian nuclear facilities.

According to a statement by the Israel Defense Forces on Wednesday, the drill included "long-range flight, aerial refueling and striking distant targets."

According to Channel 13 news, more than 100 aircraft — as well as navy submarines — participated in the drill that spanned some 10,000 kilometers.

The jets were refueled twice during the simulation, as they circled Cyprus and conducted mock Arclight airstrike
...KABOOM!...
s in Israel, the report said. Meanwhile,
...back at the pound, the little lost dog had finished eating the rat terrier...
the elite helicopter search-and-rescue Unit 669 was on standby to assist pilots who may have needed to abandon their planes.

Earlier this month, The Times of Israel learned that the drill — as part of the military’s major Chariots of Fire exercise — would simulate a widescale strike in Iran, including against its nuclear facilities.

Chariots of Fire, which involves nearly all branches of the IDF, has been focusing on training for fighting on Israel’s northern borders, including against the Iran-backed Hezbollah terror group in Lebanon Hezbollahstan

to the 2015 nuclear deal amid long-stalled negotiations with world powers, the past year has seen the Israel Defense Forces ramp up its efforts to prepare a credible military threat against Tehran’s nuclear facilities.

At the beginning of last year, IDF Chief of Staff Aviv Kohavi announced that he had instructed the military to begin drawing up fresh attack plans against Iran. By September, Kohavi said the army had "greatly accelerated" preparations for action against Tehran’s nuclear program.

Still, defense officials estimate that while some aspects of the IAF’s strike plans, which are still in their early stages, could be ready within a short period of time, others would take more than a year to become fully actionable.

In addition to having to find ways to strike Iranian facilities that are buried deep underground, requiring specialized munitions and tactics, the IAF will have to deal with increasingly sophisticated Iranian air defenses in order to conduct such a strike. The air force will also have to prepare for an expected retaliation against Israel by Iran and its allies throughout the region.

The drill has also focused on preparing for and responding to such retaliation.

According to Channel 13 news, the US Air Force was supposed to serve as a complementary force with refueling planes during the drill. The IDF did not confirm the report, and the US Central Command denied it, saying "there is no direct US military involvement in that exercise." A Pentagon spokesperson also denied the Department of Defense was "directly participating" in the drills, according to The War Zone online magazine.

On Tuesday, Defense Minister Benny Gantz visited another part of the Chariots of Fire drill taking place in Cyprus, which aims to simulate fighting against Hezbollah in Lebanon.

IDF: Fighter jets downed Egyptian military drone that entered Israeli skies
[IsraelTimes] Incident occurred Monday in the southern Negev desert; defense source says UAV was unarmed, interception coordinated with Egypt.

An unarmed Egyptian drone was intercepted by Israeli fighter jets over the southern Negev desert earlier this week, the Israel Defense forces said Wednesday.

According to the military, the incident occurred Monday near Mount Sagi, situated only a few kilometers from the border with Egypt. The IDF said the unmanned aircraft was monitored as it crossed into Israeli airspace.

activity in the northern Sinai desert, apparently ran into technical issues causing the operators to lose contact as it accidentally entered Israeli airspace, a defense source said.

The downing of the aircraft was coordinated with Egypt, the source added. The IDF said the incident was being investigated.

The incident came as Israeli air defenses were on high alert following Iranian threats to respond to the liquidation of a senior Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps officer.

The military did not say why it kept the incident under wraps for two days, but Army Radio cited Egyptian sensitivities over the matter.

In May, the Islamic State accused Israel of assassinating a local jihadist group leader in an airstrike.

While security coordination between Jerusalem and Cairo is known to be close, the ties are unpopular in Egypt, despite three decades of official peace. Cyber
FBI says it thwarted Iranian cyberattack on Boston Children’s Hospital
[IsraelTimes] Bureau’s director says agents learned of planned digital strike from unspecified intelligence partner, got medical center the info needed to block it

The FBI
...Formerly one of the world's premier criminal investigation organizations, something for a nation to be proud of. Now it's a political arm of the Deep State oligarchy that is willing to trump up charges, suppress evidence, or take out insurance policies come election time...
thwarted a planned cyberattack on a children’s hospital in Boston that was to have been carried out by hackers sponsored by the Iranian government, FBI Director Christopher Wray said Wednesday.

Wray told a Boston College cybersecurity conference that his agents learned of the planned digital attack from an unspecified intelligence partner and got Boston Children’s Hospital the information it needed last summer to block what would have been "one of the most despicable cyberattacks I’ve seen."

"And quick actions by everyone involved, especially at the hospital, protected both the network and the sick kids who depended on it," Wray said.

The FBI chief recounted that anecdote in a broader speech about ongoing cyber threats from Russia, China and Iran
...Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979...
and the need for partnerships between the US government and the private sector.
"Like our satellite office in Perkins Coie"
He said the bureau and Boston Children’s Hospital had worked closely together after a hacktivist attacked the hospital’s computer network in 2014. Martin Gottesfeld launched a cyberattack at the hospital to protest the care of a teenager at the center of a high-profile custody battle and later was sentenced to 10 years in prison. The attack against the hospital and a treatment home cost the facilities tens of thousands of dollars and disrupted operations for days.

"Children’s and our Boston office already knew each other well — before the attack from Iran — and that made a difference," Wray said.

He did not ascribe a particular motive to the planned attack on the hospital, but he noted that Iran and other countries have been hiring cyber mercenaries to conduct attacks on their behalf.

When it comes to Russia, he said, the FBI is "racing" to warn potential targets about preparatory actions that hackers are taking toward destructive attacks. In March, for instance, the FBI warned that it was seeing increased interest by hackers in energy companies since the start of Russia’s war against Ukraine.

Hackers from China, meanwhile, have stolen more corporate and personal data from Americans than all other nations combined as part of a broader geopolitical goal to "lie, cheat and steal," Wray said.

The speech took place as the FBI continues to combat ransomware attacks from criminal gangs, an ongoing concern for US officials despite the absence of crippling intrusions in recent months.

Wray emphasized the need for private companies to work with the FBI to thwart ransomware gangs and nation-state hackers, adding that building those relationships is a key to success.

"What these partnerships let us do is hit our adversaries at every point — from the victims’ networks, back all the way to the hackers’ own computers," Wray said.

The FBI and other federal agencies have been working to assure hacking victims that it is in their best interest to report intrusions and cyber crimes. Many companies attacked by ransomware gangs often don’t go to the FBI for a variety of reasons.

US Sen. Rob Portman, a Republican from Ohio and the ranking member of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, issued a report earlier this year critical of the FBI’s response to some ransomware victims. In two cases, the FBI "prioritized its investigative and prosecutorial efforts to disrupt attacker operations over victims’ need to protect data and mitigate damage," the report said.

One unnamed Fortune 500 company told committee staff that the FBI did not offer any "helpful assistance" when responding to a ransomware attack.

"For example, the FBI offered their hostage negotiator who appeared to have little expertise in responding to ransomware attacks," the report said.

Government Corruption
Dekalb County Recount Shows Massive Difference Between Machine Count And Hand Count
[GeorgiaRecord] From May 24th Primary – Election Results Changed, Electronic Database Suspected

Dekalb County, GA undertook a hand recount in the District 2 County Commission race after questions were raised over equipment ‘malfunctions’.

DeKalb VRE Executive Director Keisha Smith issued a press release to distribute the recount tabulation which changed the results and the runoff participants.

The press release does not explain the large discrepancy between the machine count on Election Night and the subsequent hand count. It also doesn’t explain the appearance of 2,810 more votes cast than were initially reported, reported Decaturish.

“This is my first time experiencing an election as a candidate. Like I’m sure many other people are, I am surprised by the significant change in the reported totals from the hand count in comparison towhat had previously been published by DeKalb Elections…I am continuing to monitor the situation and will await further news about this election. It remains important to me that every vote is counted with accuracy and reflects the voters will. Due to the limited time between now and the runoff election date, I need to continue to be prepared for the runoff as we await certification, I continue to support full transparency about this election and the ensuing tabulation of results,” said Lauren Alexander.

DeKalb VRE at first declined to release results of the hand count of paper ballots, which election workers finished at 12:30 a.m. on May 31, citing questions about the accuracy of the count.

Local Dekalb online newspaper Decaturish filed a formal records request for the immediate release of this information with an explanation about why election officials feel the hand tally count is inaccurate, or provide a legal justification for withholding the information.

Had Spears not raised questions on Election Night, it’s unclear whether the result would be in doubt at all. Some precincts were reporting she received zero votes – including her own precinct. Spears took pictures of the precinct-level results and showed them to Decaturish on Monday during day two of the hand count. Her supporters, including commissioners Jeff Rader and Ted Terry, began publicly raising questions about what happened.

“I have no disagreement with anybody who says let’s take a harder look at any of these races…I needed to be provided with more precinct by precinct data. What are the implications of any of the issues we’ve been looking at for any other races? I don’t know, said Elections Board Vice Chair Nancy Jester.

PTI govt ‘knew about controversial Israel trip’, claims organiser
[Dawn] The revelation that a number of Pak expats and a couple of citizens recently travelled to Israel as part of a delegation has sparked a controversy, with former prime minister Imran Khan
...aka The Great Khan, who who convinced himself that playing cricket qualified him to lead a nuclear-armed nation with severe personality disorders...
and his party spinning the incident into their narrative of a foreign conspiracy against the previous government, and alleging that the trip had their successors’ tacit approval.

The issue has been discussed at length in parliament as well as during pressers and public meetings and portrayed as a political step by the government. The fact that other predominantly Moslem countries, such as the UAE and The Sick Man of Europe Turkey

China conducts ‘readiness patrol’ around Taiwan
[Dawn] The Chinese military said on Wednesday it had conducted a combat "readiness patrol" in the seas and airspace around Taiwan in recent days, saying it was a necessary action to respond to "collusion" between Washington and Taipei.

China, which claims democratically governed Taiwan as its own territory, has stepped up its military manoeuvres around the island over the past two years or so, as it seeks to pressure Taipei to accept its illusory sovereignty claims.

China has been particularly unhappy with US support for Taiwan.

US President Joe The Big Guy Biden
...46th president of the U.S. Joe's wife and daughter weren't killed by a drunk driver. He didn't graduate with three or even two degrees, wasn't in the top half of his law class, and his daddy didn't come home from a hard day's work in the mines and play football with the guys. The NAACP hasn't endorsed him every time he's run. On the other hand, he did abandon Afghanistan...
angered China last week by appearing to signal a change in an American policy of "strategic ambiguity" on Taiwan by saying the United States would become involved militarily if China were to attack the island. US officials said there had been no change in policy.

In a statement, the People’s Liberation Army Eastern Theatre Command said the combat "readiness patrol" had happened around Taiwan in recent days and was "a necessary action against US-Taiwan collusion".

"Recently, the United States has frequently made moves on the Taiwan issue, saying one thing and doing another, instigating support for Taiwan independence forces, which will push Taiwan into a dangerous situation," the command added.

Taiwan is part of China and Chinese troops continue to strengthen military training and preparations to "thwart" interference from external forces’ and actions by those who support Taiwan independence, it said.

While the statement did not give an exact date for when the drill happened, Taiwan on Monday reported the largest incursion since January by China’s air force in its air defence zone. The island’s defence ministry said Taiwanese fighters scrambled to warn away 30 aircraft.

Taiwan has complained repeatedly of such missions in its Air Defence Identification Zone, or ADIZ.

No shots have been fired and the Chinese aircraft have not been flying in Taiwan’s air space, but in its ADIZ, a broader area Taiwan monitors and patrols that acts to give it more time to respond to any threats.

Afghanistan
Jirga leaves for talks with TTP
[Dawn] A 57-member jirga comprising sitting and former parliamentarians and elders from the erstwhile tribal region left for Afghanistan’s capital Kabul on Wednesday for talks with the banned Tehrik-e-Taliban
...the Pashtun equivalent of men...
Pakistain (TTP).

The Afghan Taliban’s interim government is facilitating peace talks between Islamabad and the TTP whose leadership is already in Kabul. Prior to the jirga’s visit bigwigs held several rounds of parleys with the TTP in the Afghan capital, but have yet to make a breakthrough except agreeing to extend a fragile ceasefire for an indefinite period.

The two sides had agreed to extend the ceasefire and continue peace talks following separate meetings with Mullah Muhammad Hassan Akhund, Afghanistan’s acting Prime Minister.

Sources said the jirga members attended an extensive briefing in Peshawar before departing for Kabul from Islamabad. Federal Minister for Oversees Paks Sajid Hussain Turi, former governor Shaukatullah Khan, Senator Hilalur Rehman, former parliamentarians Shah Jee Gul Afridi, G.G. Jamal, Akhunzada Chattan, Malik Saleh Shah and Malik Waris Khan Afridi are key members of the jirga.

The KP government is represented in the jirga by Special Assistant to the Chief Minister on Information Barrister Mohammad Ali Saif.

Prior to this, jirgas of tribal elders from North Wazoo and South Waziristan tribal districts held extensive talks with the TTP in Kabul.

In a significant development, the TTP in a two-page statement welcomed the jirga members’ visit to Kabul and hoped that with the blessings of Allah the visit would usher in peace and prosperity. The TTP’s statement, written in Pashto, said that its Mujahideen would not accept any compromise on the independent status of the former Fata, which was merged with the KP province through a constitutional amendment in 2018.

"The TTP’s Mujahideen and warriors will neither compromise on its special independent status nor will they agree to live under the clutches of slavery," it said, adding that if the Pakistain government and its security agencies want peace, they would have to restore its previous status.

Main demands of the banned

organization
include release of prisoners, compensation for the dead and wounded, enforcement of Shariah in Malakand, withdrawal of troops from the borders and reversal of Fata merger.

Economy
As Gas Prices Continue to Soar, Congress and States Should Provide Gas Tax ‘Holiday'
[Red State] For months, President Biden and scores of federal lawmakers have been paying lip service about Americans’ struggles to keep up with inflation, especially when it comes to rapidly rising prices at the pump.

For instance, in a recent op-ed he wrote for The Wall Street Journal, Biden said he has taken "every practical step to make things more affordable for families during this moment of economic uncertainty—and to boost the productive capacity of our economy over time."

He added that when it comes to record-high prices at the pump, he has specifically "led the largest release from global oil reserves in history."

Yet, despite his draining of the U.S. Strategic Petroleum Reserve and whatever he was referring to when he said he has taken "every practical step" to reduce inflation, Americans are still facing the fact that gas prices continue to rise and inflation is getting worse, not better.

So, aside from the rhetorical gestures and hollow policies, what can Biden and Congress actually do to reduce the exorbitant price of a gallon of gasoline, which now costs an average of $4.67 per gallon?

For starters, it would certainly behoove the Biden administration and Congress to strongly consider a national gas tax "holiday."

As of now, the current federal tax on a gallon of gasoline stands at 18-cents-per-gallon for regular gasoline and 24-cents-per-gallon for diesel fuel.

If Biden and Congress wanted to make an immediate and meaningful difference when it comes to gas prices, they would work in tandem to put these federal tax levies on hold, at least for the foreseeable future.

#1  Taxes are not likely to go away. The problem is the fossil fuel consumer. Controls on purchasing should be implemented immediately. Demand for this evil substance must be reduced. Increased costs (to include taxes) are obviously the key.

#2  No way. The crippling of the ordinary American by high gas prices is all part of the plan. They will never release the knee from our necks.

People keep assuming they want to make our lives better. This is a tragically mistaken assumption. Begin assuming that their actions are motivated by malice and that they wish to harm us. Then things will start making sense and you will be able to make hypotheses that will be confirmed by evidence.

#3
SO WE HAVE:
1. Another country 1/2 away around the world drill for it.

2. Pump it out & pipeline it over their leaky pipeline to a leaky tanker ship.

3. Transport it across 7,000+ miles of Ocean, leaking along the way.

4. Dock here, unload it into a US Pipeline.

5. Use the same existing pipelines to a US Refineries.

6. Have the oil refined by the same refineries.

7. Produce GAS/DIESEL and then pipe it across the USA the same way.

So how is this better than DRILL HERE - DRILL NOW ?

Wouldn't doing it HERE be safer for the environment?
So how about tossing the Earth 1st for votes BS.

...As far as the gas tax goes, the politicians of course understand that it's unlikely that the price will actually drop more than a few cents - if at all, where this might be approved. And if it's approved, imagine the fun when the Feds decide that enough's enough....a few months down the road when we're looking at $6-7 a gallon without the tax.

And BTW, diesel prices may be irrelevant in the very near future because of a shortage of Diesel Exhaust Fluid, or DEF. It's mandatory in engines built since 2010, and is essentially urea and water, sprayed into the exhaust stream to lower emissions. What happens in DEF engines if you just say the hell with it?

Glad you asked:

"The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency requires vehicle manufacturers to put measures in place to ensure that vehicles cannot run without Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF). Before a truck's DEF tank runs empty the driver is given a series of alerts on their dashboard displays (much the same way as if they were running low on diesel). Generally speaking, when the DEF tank level drops below 10% an amber warning lamp will come on, at 5% this lamp starts flashing and below 2.5% a solid amber warning light is displayed.

If the truck is allowed to run out of DEF the engine's power is reduced, a solid red warning will be displayed and the vehicle speed will be limited to 5 mph until the DEF tank is refilled."

It hasn't gotten interesting yet. Sleep tight.

Deep State Predators Need to Terrify Everyone – Alex Newman
[USA Watchdog] Author of the popular book "Deep State" and award-winning journalist Alex Newman says Deep State globalists are afraid the world is waking up to the tyranny they are trying to impose on every country on earth including America. Things are not going as smoothly into their so-called reset as they had envisioned. Newman explains, "The Deep State is in a ’do or die’ moment right now. They, the elites or predator class, recognize that they are now locked into this.

If they try to retreat, there is no retreat. People are waking up at such a rapid rate that they are in a moment where they are going to have to go for broke and try to impose the whole agenda and damn the torpedoes and full speed ahead or they are going to be in big trouble. They are going to be prosecuted. Right this moment, there are conversations in state attorney generals’ offices all across the country, and this is a problem. People are demanding prosecution. . . . Right now, the elites, or predator class, realize if they don’t move forward very quickly, they are going to lose everything. They could possibly end up facing true accountability.

I think we are in a very dangerous situation now. When people get into a position like that, they don’t have a whole lot of options. Either they cancel the election or they cheat like crazy or they just collapse everything. The way things are going right now with inflation out of control, the food crisis and famine just around the corner, of course, that they engineered, and the monkey pox and bird flu, they have all there crises lined up. . . . You realize they have a lot of options still to play. I suspect there will be some very interesting developments between now and the mid-term elections. If we had honest elections, they would be totally creamed. They would be toast, and they know that."

...founder of Lashkar-e-Taiba and its false-mustache offshoot Jamaat-ud-Dawa. The United Nations declared the JuD a terrorist organization in 2008 and Hafiz Saeed a terrorist as its leader. Hafiz, JuD and LeT are wholly-owned subsidiaries of the Pak intel apparatus, so that amounted to squat. He is periodically placed under house arrest so it looks like the govt is doing something. Once the heat is off they let him go....
, maintain their training camps in some provinces of Afghanistan and some of them are directly under the Taliban

's control, according to a UN report.

The 13th report of the Analytical Support and Sanctions Monitoring Team cites a UN Member State as saying that Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), a Deobandi group ideologically closer to the Taliban maintains eight training camps in Nangarhar
The unfortunate Afghan province located adjacent to Mohmand, Kurram, and Khyber Agencies. The capital is Jalalabad. The province was the fief of Younus Khalis after the Soviets departed and one of his sons is the current provincial Taliban commander. Nangarhar is Haqqani country..
, three of which are directly under Taliban control.

India's Permanent Representative to the UN Ambassador T S Tirumurti, in his capacity as Chair of the Taliban Sanctions Committee, also known as the 1988 Sanctions Committee, transmitted the report to be "brought to the attention of the members of the Security Council and issued as a document of the Council."

The report said that Jaish-e-Mohammed, a Deobandi group led by Masood Azhar
...One of the major players in Pak terrorism. In early 1994, India incarcerated him for his activities. In 1995, foreign tourists were kidnapped in Jammu and Kashmir. The kidnappers included his release among their demands. One of the hostages managed to escape but the rest were eventually killed. In 1999, he was freed by the Indian government in exchange for passengers on hijacked Indian Airlines Flight 814 that had been diverted to Kandahar. The hijackers were led by Masood Azhar's brother, Ibrahim Athar. Once he was handed over to the hijackers, they fled to Pak territory despite the fact that Islamabad had earlier stated that any of the hijackers would be jugged at the border. The Pak government had also previously indicated that Azhar would be allowed to return home since he did not face any charges there. Shortly after his release, he made a public address to an estimated 10,000 people in Karachi, firing up the rubes against America and India...
, is ideologically closer to the Taliban. Qari Ramazan is the newly appointed head of JeM in Afghanistan.

It added that Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) is described in the previous Monitoring Team reports as having provided finance and training expertise to Taliban operations.

Within Afghanistan, according to one Member State, it is led by Mawlawi Yousuf, the report said, adding that in October 2021, according to one Member State, another LeT leader, Mawlawi Assadullah, met with Taliban Deputy Interior Minister Noor Jalil.

The same Member State reported that in January 2022, a Taliban delegation visited a training camp used by LeT in the Haska Mena district of Nangarhar.

"The group was said to maintain three camps in Kunar and Nangarhar. Previous LeT members have included Aslam Farooqi and Ejaz Ahmad Ahangar (a.k.a. Abu Usman al-Kashmiri), both of whom joined ISIS-K, the report said.

Another Member State said that there was no evidence of the presence of JeM and LeT in the region as a consequence of effective security operations targeting them, according to the report.

The 13th report of the Analytical Support and Sanctions Monitoring Team of the Taliban Sanctions Committee is the first report since the August 15 takeover of Kabul by the Taliban.

It notes that the period between then and April 2022 has seen the Taliban consolidate control over Afghanistan, appointing 41 United Nations
...an organization originally established to war on dictatorships which was promptly infiltrated by dictatorships and is now held in thrall to dictatorships...
-sanctioned individuals to the Cabinet and other senior-level positions in their de facto administration. They have favoured loyalty and seniority over competence, and their decision-making has been opaque and inconsistent.

The report further said that the Tehrik-e Taliban Pakistain (TTP) constitutes the largest component of foreign terrorist fighters in Afghanistan, with their number estimated to be several thousand.

Meanwhile report also mentions that the change in the name of al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS) magazine "suggests a refocusing" of the terror group from Afghanistan to Kashmir
...a disputed territory lying between India and Pakistain. After partition, the Paks grabbed half of it and call it Azad (Free) Kashmir. The remainder they refer to as "Indian Occupied Kashmir". They have fought four wars with India over it, the score currently 4-0 in New Delhi's favor. After 72 years of this nonsense, India cut the Gordian knot in 2019, removing the area's special status, breaking off Ladakh as a separate state, and allowing people from other areas to settle (or in the case of the Pandits, to resettle) there....
, a UN report has said.

The 13th report of the Analytical Support and Sanctions Monitoring Team submitted pursuant to resolution 2611 (2021) concerning the Taliban and other associated individuals and entities constituting a threat to the peace stability and security of Afghanistan was released on Saturday.

The report said that being subordinate to the al-Qaeda core, the AQIS is maintaining a low profile in Afghanistan, where the majority of its fighters are located. AQIS is reported to have 180 to 400 fighters, with estimates by member states inclining toward the lower figure.

"Fighters included nationals from Bangladesh, India, Myanmar and Pakistain and were located in Ghazni, Helmand
...an Afghan province populated mostly by Pashtuns, adjacent to Injun country in Pak Balochistan...
, Kandahar, Nimruz, Paktika
...which coincidentally borders South Wazoo...
and Zabul Provinces.

It also added that AQIS capabilities are assessed as "still weakened from losses as a result of the October 2015 joint United States-Afghan raid in Kandahar's Shorabak district. AQIS has also been forced by financial constraints to adopting a less aggressive posture.

It also added that AQIS capabilities are assessed as "still weakened from losses as a result of the October 2015 joint United States-Afghan raid in Kandahar’s Shorabak district. AQIS has also been forced by financial constraints to adopt a less aggressive posture.

As with al-Qaeda core, new circumstances in Afghanistan may allow the group to reorganise itself. The 2020 name change of the AQIS magazine from Nawa-i Afghan Jihad to Nawa-e-Gazwah-e-Hind suggests a refocusing of AQIS from Afghanistan to Kashmir. The magazine reminded its readers that al-Zawahiri
...Formerly second in command of al-Qaeda, now the head cheese, occasionally described as the real brains of the outfit. Formerly the Mister Big of Egyptian Islamic Jihad. Bumped off Abdullah Azzam with a car boom in the course of one of their little disputes. Is thought to have composed bin Laden's fatwa entitled World Islamic Front Against Jews and Crusaders. Currently residing in the North Wazoo area assuming he's not dead like Mullah Omar. He lost major face when he ordered the nascent Islamic State to cease and desist and merge with the orthodox al-Qaeda spring, al-Nusra...
had called for jihad in Kashmir following the Da’esh Sri Lanka attacks of April 2019, the report said, nine months after the Taliban seized power in Afghanistan in August last year.

Researchers Closer To Creating Blood Test For Suicide Risk
[ZERO] Researchers have discovered an approach to identify blood biomarkers that could predict the risk of suicide in patients with depression, bringing them one step closer to developing a potential blood test for use on future patients thanks to a study by researchers at the University of California—Irvine (UCI) and Pritzker Research Consortium.

Isn't that sort of thing written about somewhere? Oh, oh yes. Alright, so perhaps we shouldn't go there. Or is this where we should actually begin ?

Unfortunately, the macro-level issue, or the question of the 'suicide' of an entire nation remains unanswered. Modeling along with historical references, could create some reasonably accurate projections.

3 soldier kaboomed in hire car in Shopian

Three soldiers were maimed after a kaboom inside a private hired vehicle in Sedow area of south Kashmir
...a disputed territory lying between India and Pakistain.
's Shopian district on Thursday, police said.

A police front man while confirming the development said it was being investigated whether the blast was due to a grenade or IED planted inside the vehicle or malfunctioning of battery adding the injured soldiers have been hospitalised.

Quoting sources, news agency KNO identified the three injured soldiers belonging to the 15 Garhwal as Ajab Singh, Parveen singh and Pawan Rawat. The trio was shifted to district hospital Shopian from where they were shifted to 92 base hospital Srinagar, the report said.

Southeast Asia
Ex-rebels in Muslim Mindanao stake future on recruitment to national police force
[BenarNews] As the muezzin’s call to prayer echoed at dawn in a remote village in this southern Philippine city, former separatist rebel Rashid Kanton was preparing recently for an examination that could change his life.

The 35-year-old ex-member of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front
...once the Philippine’s largest separatist group, they signed a peace deal with Manila and now control a Moslem autonomous region in southern Mindanao Island...
hoped to pass the exam to be considered eligible and among the first batch of former MILF snuffies recruited into the ranks of their former enemy, the Philippine National Police.

"I want to become a policeman to protect the people and catch the bad guys," he told BenarNews.

"And now we have the peace agreement, we want what was promised to us. We can be part of the police if we pass the examination."

But the odds are against Kanton, who has only finished high school. He has spent nearly all of his life as a member of the front, which was the country’s largest rebel force until it signed a peace deal with Manila in 2014 to end its decades-long separatist insurgency in the south.

Now, the former guerrilla force controls an expanded autonomous region in the southern Philippines, officially known as the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Moslem Mindanao.

Kanton said he had joined the rebel force because he believed in the cause it was fighting for and because he was born into conflict. All his male relatives, at one point or another, were MILF fighters or civilians who helped in the rebellion, he said.

One of the conditions of the peace deal was the integration of select fighters of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front into the country’s police and military forces, subject to a rigid selection process.

Like Kanton, Sahid Lumabao, a 23-year-old high school graduate from Datu Odin Sinsuat, said he was thankful for the opportunity to take the police exam.

"Every night before our examination, I was reading materials related to police duties and functions," Sahid told BenarNews.

"That’s my focus. I am doing this for my future family."

NOT ENTIRELY WELCOME
Murad Ebrahim, the chief of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front and head of the transitional government in the autonomous region in Moslem Mindanao, said that when they received the go-ahead from the government on the examination for the police force, many ex-rebels wanted to serve, although some were automatically eliminated because they lacked basic qualifications.

"After three years of the transition period, we are happy that we are finally taking the first step into making this provision a reality," Ebrahim, also known as Ahod Balawag Ebrahim, told BenarNews.

Still, passing the examination is only one of the qualifications required for joining the police force, said Ricardo Bernabe III, who heads the National Police Commission.

"Once they have the eligibility, they can apply now to the Philippine National Police," he told news hounds, adding that candidates would not be appointed for merely passing the examination.

"They have their recruitment process" after the exam, he added.

However,
if you can't be a good example, then you'll just have to be a horrible warning...
not all members of the national police force have openly embraced the prospect of rebels being integrated into their ranks, especially officers from special units who saw action in the volatile south, sources said.

Seven years ago, 44 police commandos were killed in a fierce gunbattle with Moro Islamic Liberation Front rebels in January 2015, following a clandestine operation to kill Malaysian terror suspect Zulkifli bin Hir (also known as Marwan), who was one of Southeast Asia’s most wanted faceless myrmidons at the time.

In the botched operation at Mamasapano, Marwan was slain but dozens of the commandos were trapped and died after engaging the guerrillas, who said they thought they were under attack by enemy forces. It was described as the biggest single-day combat loss for the government in recent memory.

The rebel group justified its action, saying government forces had entered its area in the south unannounced in violation of a ceasefire.

The fighting set back the grinding of the peace processor, and it was only after President Rodrigo Duterte succeeded Benigno Aquino III that Congress passed a law giving autonomy to the areas in the south controlled by MILF.

Economy
J.P. Morgan's Jamie Dimon Warns of Economic ‘Hurricane'
[Breitbart] A few weeks ago J.P. Morgan Chase chief Jamie Dimon warned that there were storm clouds looming over the U.S. economy.

Now he wants to upgrade the storm forecast to a hurricane warning.

"I said there were storm clouds, big storm clouds. It’s a hurricane," Dimon said at a conference Wednesday. "Right now it’s kind of sunny, things are doing fine, everyone thinks the Fed can handle it. That hurricane is right out there down the road coming our way. We don’t know if it’s a minor one or Superstorm Sandy. You better brace yourself."

Dimon’s remarks were reported by Bloomberg News.

Dimon warned that the Fed’s plan to shrink its balance sheet, often referred to as quantitative tightening or QT, was also introducing new risks.

"We’ve never had QT like this, so you’re looking at something you could be writing history books on for 50 years," Dimon added, according to CNBC.

The Fed has said it will begin to shrink its balance sheet this month by letting maturing bonds roll off at an initial pace of $47.5 billion per month. That is scheduled to double to $95 billion a month in September.

#1  See: 1979-82.

Also, color me unimpressed by the Fed's unwinding their balance sheet. It is EXACTLY the right ste to take--they should never, ever have let it balloon to $9B--but $47.5K is just about 1/2 of 1% per month. Impact to be not nearly enough.
Posted by: Tom || 06/02/2022 14:25 Comments || Top||

#2  Further to the point, Dimon says we've never had QT like this before.

This is a true statement, but it's only true because no Fed in history was every dumb enough to blow up its balance sheet to $9T. If you don't have anything to unwind, then you don't unwind. It really is that simple.

Afghanistan
Al Qaida Is Back - We Will Pay The Price
[AND Magazine] In 2001, We went into Afghanistan to destroy a terrorist safe haven and drive Al Qaida from that nation. Al Qaeda had blown up two of our embassies, almost sunk a U.S. Navy destroyer, and flown planes into the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. Thousands of Americans had been killed.

We succeeded brilliantly. With relative handfuls of men on the ground, we crushed the Taliban and Osama Bin Laden had to flee for his life to Pakistan.

Then we lost our way.

We spent twenty years trying to turn Afghanistan into ’Switzerland in Central Asia’. We paved roads, built schools and tried to teach Afghans about gender equality and liberal democracy. We lost focus, squandered blood and treasure, and made federal contractors rich.

We could have stopped, rationalized our approach, remembered why we were there and moved ahead. We did not. Under the direction of Joe Biden -easily the worst President in American history - we fled. We handed over billions in advanced weapons to Islamic jihadist thugs, abandoned our friends and allies, and flew away.

Ever since the Biden administration has attempted to paper over the debacle with vague assurances that somehow our national security is not negatively impacted. "Al Qaida is gone. The Taliban want only to be left alone. The threat is minimal."

Caucasus/Russia/Central Asia
From the Russian Perspective: Operation on Denazification of Ukraine: operational summary June 1st (updated)
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[NewsFrontInfo] 23:01 The main thing from the statement of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation on the humanitarian situation in Ukraine:

- The Armed Forces of Ukraine are planning to shell the territory of the Russian Federation with long-range missile systems supplied by the Americans from residential areas of the city of Shostka, Sumy region. The purpose of the provocation is to call back fire and accuse Russia of killing civilians;

- On May 31, 2022, retreating units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine at the Azot enterprise in Severodonetsk, in order to stop the offensive of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation and the DPR, blew up a tank with a toxic chemical. A poisonous cloud rose, which moved towards the settlements of Kremennaya and Rubizhnoye;

- in Odessa, the defense units equipped a warehouse of weapons in the building of the lyceum, and trenches were dug near the school dormitory and a strong point was deployed. No one carried out the evacuation of the residents of nearby houses;

- in Nikolaev, militants equipped barracks and warehouses with rockets for MLRS in schools and kindergartens;

- in Kramatorsk (DPR), on the territory of the engineering college and schools, units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine equipped strong points, and armored vehicles and large-caliber artillery were placed nearby;

- in Slavyansk (DPR), in the building of a professional machine-building lyceum, nationalists equipped firing positions, artillery pieces and MLRS were placed in the courtyard;

- 18,886 people, including 2,663 children, were evacuated from dangerous areas of the DPR, LPR and Ukraine to the territory of the Russian Federation per day.

22:19 "Caliber" goes to the target over the Kirovograd region. The launch of eight missiles from the ships of the Black Sea Fleet is announced.

18:25 Kyiv assured Washington that it would not use Western weapons to attack objects located on Russian territory - Anthony Blinken.

18:01 Under Izyum, a colonel of the special forces of the National Guard of Ukraine was destroyed. In the Izyum area, Ukrainian Colonel Vladislav Allerov was killed. He commanded a detachment of special forces of the Western Directorate of the National Guard of Ukraine. It is known that on May 30, the Ukrainian Colonel Allerov was destroyed by a well-aimed artillery strike of Russian artillery.

17:45 This afternoon, as a result of an attack on the port of Ochakov, two missile boats of the Ukrainian naval forces were destroyed. As a result, the flight of ships began in an attempt to elude the Russian artillery. We recommend following a course towards Sevastopol under a white flag - this is guaranteed to save the lives of Ukrainian sailors.

17:30 Russia has practically ceased to suffer losses during the special military operation in Ukraine, this is the result of a change in the approach to the conduct of hostilities, - Chairman of the State Duma Defense Committee, Colonel General Andrey Kartapolov:

“We have practically stopped losing people. The extreme figures released by the Ministry of Defense in March are 1,351 dead. Since then, the data has not been voiced by the Ministry of Defense and I will explain why. At present, of course, there are wounded, but there are no such number of dead. And this is the result of a change in approach to the tactics of warfare,” Kartapolov said.

17:10 Lavrov– on Ukraine's demands for heavy weapons from the West: "What the Kyiv regime demands so categorically, in a businesslike way from its Western patrons, goes beyond all limits of decency and diplomatic communication. This is a direct provocation aimed at drawing the West into hostilities. Of course, sane Western politicians are well aware of these risks. Not all! I will say frankly that in the European Union, especially in its northern part, there are politicians who are ready to resort to this madness in order to satisfy their ambitions."

17:01 Not a missile was shot down over Kherson, but a Bayraktar drone - Kirill Stremousov, deputy head of the military-civilian administration.

15:05 The Russian military bribed us with their courtesy from the first day. This was told by the mayor of the city of Kupyansk in the Kharkiv region Gennady Matsegora.

▪️The Russian military stopped the riots and looting.
▪️Kyiv, after the city was liberated by the RF Armed Forces, immediately disconnected it from electricity.
▪️Russia restored the supply of electricity by connecting Kupyansk directly to the Russian Federation.
▪️The water utility, hospitals, enterprises and bakeries have resumed their work.
▪️However, Kyiv is trying to destroy these civilian infrastructure facilities.

Kupyansk is the third largest city in the Kharkiv region. The Armed Forces of the Russian Federation peacefully occupied it on February 27.

14:42 In the Kherson region, air defense systems have worked.

14:40 The main statement from Dmitry Peskov:

🔸The Kremlin did not rule out a meeting between Putin and Zelensky;
🔸Peskov said that the updated concept of foreign policy has not yet been approved;
🔸Weapons from the United States do not contribute to the resumption of negotiations with Kyiv;
🔸Europe too will have to go through a lot because of the embargo on Russian oil;
🔸Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov is planning a visit to Turkey, the date will be announced at the Foreign Ministry;
🔸Peskov promised to clarify information about the departure of Valentin Yumashev from the post of Putin's adviser;
🔸Peskov forwarded to the Ministry of Defense a question about the circumstances of the death of a French journalist.

13:45 The Kremlin said that a meeting between Putin and Zelensky is possible only to sign the agreements already reached, read the fulfillment of the initial requirements of the Russian Federation.

But since Ukraine is sabotaging the negotiations at the suggestion of the United States, there is no actual agreement on the document for signing by Putin and Zelensky. This means that there are no grounds for a meeting, and therefore there will be no such meeting. In general, in this regard, the Kremlin’s position regarding meetings with Zelensky has not changed since February.

13:35 Russia does not prevent the call of Ukrainian grain from seaports - Kremlin.

13:31 The Kremlin announced a lack of trust in Zelensky's words and in the Ukrainian side.

They held a gathering under the heading of "justice for journalists" in Kabul on Wednesday.

Journalists held a gathering in Kabul where they said that they would not recognize any media watchdogs as they are being negligent toward the Afghan media community.

They held a gathering under the heading of "justice for journalists" in Kabul on Wednesday.

"These organizations have not been supportive of journalists, and so the journalists called on the Islamic Emirate and relevant organizations to not recognize these organization as media watchdogs," said Mohammad Raqib Fayaz, a participant.

"These organizations misused the title of journalist. There are lobbies in the foreign organizations," said Mubeen Ahmad Muwahid, another participant.

Meanwhile, media watchdogs have various opinions about their activities as the media watchdogs.

"Whenever a journalist has any problem regarding the Afghanistan Independent Journalists' Association (AIJA), they can refer to the AIJA," said Hujatullah Mujadidi, head of the AIJA.

Bees Now Identify as Fish
[PowerLine] A BUMBLEBEE NEEDS FINS LIKE A FISH NEEDS A...

An appellate court in California has held that bumblebees are fish:

The issue presented here is whether the bumble bee, a terrestrial invertebrate, falls within the definition of fish, as that term is used in the definitions of endangered species in section 2062, threatened species in section 2067, and candidate species (i.e., species being considered for listing as endangered or threatened species) in section 2068 of the Act.
We live in Heinlein's Crazy Years.
It takes 35 pages of tortured logic in an opinion that reads like a parody, but the court concludes that bumblebees indeed are fish within the meaning of California’s environmental laws. I take it that all other insects, by the court’s logic, are also fish.
I identify as a Martian. It says so on my last census form.

Caucasus/Russia/Central Asia
War in Ukraine. Summary 06/01/2022
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.

Commentary by Russian military journalist Bris Rozhin

[ColonelCassad] 1. Severodonetsk.
More than 80 percent of the city is under the control of the RF Armed Forces. The enemy is being held in the area of the Azot plant and the industrial zone. Ukrainian sources explain the benefits of the retreat to Lysichansk, which partially happened - part of the quarters of Severodonetsk was occupied by the RF Armed Forces without serious fighting in the mopping-up regime. The enemy hopes that due to the terrain in Lisichansk he will be able to hold out longer. The myth of the "Severodonetsk fortress" collapsed.

2. Avdievka.
Fighting north of Avdievka towards Krasnogorovka. There is no operational encirclement of the Avdievka group. The enemy, after the loss of the Avdievka-Konstantinovka highway, retains 2 roads through Orlovka to supply Avievka. Fighting on the southern outskirts of New York and near Novobakhmutovka.

3. Svetlodarsk.
Fighting in the area of Dolomitny, Novolugansk, Vozdvizhenka, Uglegorsk TPP. Significant progress in this area was not reported today. The key position here is the Uglegorsk TPP.

4. Artemovsk.
Fights for the fortified area in Pilipchatino. The enemy has transferred several dozen pieces of equipment to the city, strengthening the defense on the outskirts.

5. Soledar.
Fights for the Artemovsk-Lysichansk highway. The enemy threw into battle part of the reserves withdrawn from Artemovsk, trying to push our troops away from Berestovoye and Belogorovka. Due to the fire damage, it is difficult to use the Artemovsk-Lysichansk highway, part of the supply of the Severodonetsk grouping was transferred to the Artemovsk-Seversk-Lysichansk road. Fighting at Upper Kamenka.

6. Zolotoye.
More than 80% of Kamyshevakhi has been liberated. The enemy is reinforcing the defenses of Vrubovka, trying to prevent our troops from developing the offensive from the area of Toshkovka and Ustinovka.

7. Slavyansk.
Battles for Svyatogorsk. Most of the northern coast of the Seversky Donets river in the direction of Raygorodok has been cleared. Part of Shchurovo is occupied, advancement to Bogorodichnoye. Fighting on the outskirts of Lake.

8. Izyum.
Without changes. Positional battles in the area of Velikaya Kamyshevakha, Kurulka, Dolgenkiy.

9. Kharkov.
The Armed Forces of the Russian Federation again seized the initiative here, methodically pushing the Armed Forces of Ukraine from the border to Kharkov. Today, the enemy left several small villages after a long fire defeat, including Tsupovka. In the Ternovaya area, after repulsing the attacks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation advanced towards Stary Saltov, leaving, incl. to the road from Stary Saltov to Kharkov.

In general, the “big counter-offensive near Kharkov” ended in nothing for the Armed Forces of Ukraine - significant forces were spent to take insignificant villages, some of which had to be given back. Attacks on Kharkiv and Chuguev can not yet be expected, as well as large-scale operations in the Chernihiv and Sumy directions, where the RF Armed Forces are limited to fire damage to the objects of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

10. Ugledar.
The enemy launched a counterattack in the direction of Pavlovka, suffered losses and did not achieve success. The battles near Novomikhailovka and Velikaya Novoselovka brought no changes to the situation at the front. In Marinka, no changes, the front froze in the area of the waste heap.

11. Nikolaev.
Attempts by the Armed Forces of Ukraine to launch attacks in the direction of Kherson from the Nikolaev and Kryvyi Rih directions ended in heavy losses for the Armed Forces of Ukraine in people and materiel. It was not possible to break through the defenses of the RF Armed Forces at Snegirevka and at Davydov Brod.

Attempts to achieve tactical success with a swoop turned into failure. It can be expected that the next attempts will prepare more thoroughly. One can note the use of the Kinburn Spit by Russian MLRS for shelling Ochakovo, where 2 small missile boats of the Ukrainian Navy were hit.

12. Odessa.
The enemy transferred part of the reserves to Nikolaev, revising the city's defense system. Part of the barriers were dismantled in the center. Preparations are underway for a second attack on about. Serpentine, which will be carried out with the support of the American MLRS HIMARS, which the United States plans to transfer from the territory of Romania. The Black Sea Fleet of the Russian Federation is taking measures to strengthen the defense of the island.

13. Zaporozhye.
On the front Kamenskoye-Orekhov-Gulyaipole-Velikaya Novoselovka - positional battles.

#3  12 videos created and posted to Ukrainian social media by rebellious Ukrainian units - available for viewing, with English subtitles, at sonar21.com, the blog of Larry Johnson, ex-CIA and Homeland Security analyst:

UKRAINIAN MILITARY UNITS CONTINUE REBELLING AGAINST THEIR COMMANDERS

When I wrote this piece initially last week, I identified 6 Ukrainian units that filmed themselves rebelling against their chain of command. These “rebellion” videos came on the heels of the surrender of more than 2500 members of the AZOV battalion at Mariupol. Now the number is 12–that is 12 different units in the Donbas. They all voice the same complaints about their chain of command for not properly supplying them with the weapons and equipment they need to fight.

This is not your normal troop bitching about conditions. All soldiers in all wars throughout history have passed the time complaining about lousy food, terrible weather, inept commanders and stupid decisions. What you see below is unprecedented in my memory.

These soldiers still believe in fighting for Ukraine but are not keen on being used as a Russian punching bag. They believe their commanders are asking them to commit suicide. Below you can watch videos of soldiers from 12 units presenting a formal demand to President Zelensky and the Ukrainian General in Command of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. This is appearing on Ukrainian social media. It is not a Russian propaganda piece. Here are the units:

13th Battalion of 58th Motorized Infantry Brigade
2nd Company of the 46th Rifle Battalion
3rd Platoon of the 46th Infantry Battalion
115th Brigade
3rd Platoon of the 115th Brigade
71st Jaeger Infantry Brigade
Ukrainian 14th Brigade: 6th Battalion, 4th, 5th, and 6th companies
Cherkasy Territorial Defense
95th Separate Airborne Assault Brigade
30th Mechanized Brigade 3rd Battalion 9th Company

#5  The war's almost over. Yet another leading European military expert explains why Russia is about to complete its domination of the entire Donbas region:

Austria's top military strategist, Colonel Colonel Markus Reisner, in Die Welt: "The West has made a serious miscalculation in Ukraine... With these tactics, Russia is winning the war in Donbass"

Austrian military expert Colonel Markus Reisner declared that Western countries are seriously mistaken in relying on large arms supplies for the Ukrainian army.

According to Col. Reisner, ''the Russian army continues to make solid progress in its offensive against Ukrainian positions in the Donbass, and it will be victorious in the region. This is evidenced by the fact that most of the territories of the DPR and LPR, including large cities, are already under the control of the Russian army. Russia also controls important facilities in southern Ukraine, on the shores of the Sea of Azov.''

Col. Reisner added that ''in the West they try not to talk about the obvious advance of the Russian armed forces and the Western media make a lot of efforts to hide the obvious successes of the Russians, which is a serious mistake''.

Reisner stressed that he is following the situation in Ukraine from various sources, and has concluded that the West is deeply mistaken in relying on large military aid supplies for the Armed Forces of Ukraine. According to Col. Reisner, ''it takes a lot of time to send weapons, and these weapons are spent literally in one day. And more often than not, these Western weapons do not even have time to fall into the hands of the Ukrainian military on the front line. According to the US defense department, the weapons that the West sends to Ukraine during the week run out within a day. This means that Western weapons are immediately used by the Ukrainians and most of these weapons are captured or destroyed by the Russians. The Russian army seizes a lot of weapons."

The Austrian colonel also drew attention to the high professionalism of the Russian special forces, which opposes the Ukrainian troops. Reisner notes that 'Russian special forces successfully track down groups of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and neutralize them. This means that the supply lines for the offensive of the Russian Armed Forces in the Donbass are not damaged''.

He also noted the well-coordinated work of the infantry and artillery of the Russian armed forces. ''The Russian offensive in the Donbass is currently slow but steady and thorough, with significant artillery and infantry support. This [slow, deliberate pace] is not a sign of weakness. Rather, it shows that the battalion tactical groups interact more closely with each other and are controlled centrally'', according to Col. Reisner.

Stavropol Resident Convicted of ISIS Recruitment
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[KavkazUzel] A court in Rostov-on-Don sentenced Stavropol resident Anzor Laipanov to five years in prison for recruiting a minor to IS and publicly justifying terrorism.

The Southern District Military Court in Rostov-on-Don has sentenced Anzor Laipanov, a resident of the North Caucasus, accused of assisting terrorist activities and publicly justifying terrorism, the press service of the FSB for the Stavropol Territory reported.

"In 2020, Laipanov persuaded a minor resident of the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug to travel to Syria to participate in the activities of the Islamic State international terrorist organization banned in the Russian Federation, and also posted publications and images on the social network publicly justifying terrorism," Interfax quoted department's message.

The Stavropol citizen was sentenced to five years in a penal colony, and also deprived of the right to administer websites for a period of one year, Kommersant Rostov-on-Don reported with reference to the department. Rumint: Donetsk president Pushilin wounded in Limon: What is known
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.

It should be noted that Pushilin's predecessor, Aleksandr Zakharchenko had no fewer than eight in his personal security detail, all riflemen. Yet, it wasn't enough to stop the bomb that killed him.

[Korrespondent] On Wednesday, information appeared in the information field about the wounding of the leader of the so-called “DPR” Alexander Pushilin. Russian propaganda media, citing the so-called “Head of the Ministry of Health of the DPR” and Pushilin himself, deny that he was wounded.

WHERE DID THE INFORMATION COME FROM
In the middle of the day on June 1, Advisor to the Mayor of Mariupol, Petr Andryushchenko, reported on his Telegram channel that the leader of the “DPR” Pushilin and the head of the occupation administration of Mariupol Konstantin Ivashchenko were giving a tour of the ruins of the Mariupol Drama Theater to the Governor of St. Petersburg Alexander Belov.

Almost at the same time, the RIA Melitopol edition in its Telegram channel reported that, according to unconfirmed information, Pushilin was wounded in Liman, and all the videos that are now being published with him are “canned”, that is, they were recorded earlier and are issued for live broadcast or a recent entry.
Limon is near Severodonetsk, where all the festivities currently are.
Later, information about Pushilin's injury was spread by the adviser to the head, Anton Gerashchenko. He specified that as a result of the shelling, and Pushilin were wounded.

Pushilin’s injury was confirmed on his Telegram channel by another adviser to the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, Vyacheslav Andrusiv. “I confirm that Pushilin and 72 Kadyrovites was wounded in Liman. It is a pity that he was only wounded," he wrote.
Information is that Pushilin and a Chechen unit were caught near the impact zone of an artillery strike.
RUSSIANS DENY
The Russian propaganda agency TASS in its Telegram channel wrote with reference to the “Head of the Ministry of Health of the DPR” that this “official” has no information about Pushilin’s injury. TASS does not mention his name, but the website of the “Ministry of Health of the DPR” indicates that it is led by a certain Alexander Oprishchenko.

Later, this propaganda agency reported that Pushilin himself allegedly denied the information about his injury, without providing, however, any photo or video confirming this statement.

Another Russian propaganda outlet, Russia Today, allegedly quotes Pushilin: "It's all right. The governor of St. Petersburg and I were in Mariupol today. There was a signing of twinning between Mariupol and St. Petersburg, we feel quite good with Alexander Dmitrievich Beglov."
Pretty big screw up from someone in Pushilin's own government in any case.

Senior Al-Shabaab commander arrested in southern Somalia
[Garowe] A senior al-Shabaab
...... the Islamic version of the old Somali warlord...
commander was on Wednesday arrested in Lower Jubba, in yet a milestone in the war against the Somalia-based murderous Moslems, who have been terrorizing people in the Horn of Africa nation, including innocent civilians.

For the past several weeks, Somali National Army [SNA] has intensified its crackdown against the murderous Moslems, who still control large swathes of rural central and southern Somalia. The hard boyz have also intensified attacks in various strategic areas across the country.

State media reported that Mohammed Abdi Mukhtar, a senior al-Shabaab leader who is known within the group [Sakhrawi] to hide his identity, was arrested by the elite Danab Special Forces, who get training from the US Africa Command during an operation in the West of Kismayo
...a port city in the southern Lower Juba province of Somalia, at the extreme southern end of the country (always assuming Somalia can be called a country). It is the commercial capital of the autonomous Jubaland region....
According to the military, four of Sakhrawi's bodyguards were killed during his arrest. For a long time, the commander has been evading arrest, despite topo tip-off from the locals who have been working with the military to degrade the murderous Moslems.

The Danab Special Forces have been working closely with the African Union
...a union consisting of 53 African states, most run by dictators of one flavor or another. The only all-African state not in the AU is Morocco. Established in 2002, the AU is the successor to the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), which was even less successful...
Transition Mission [ATMIS] in various operations even in the absence of the US military. The US announced recently that it is dispatching close to 500 soldiers to the Horn of Africa nation.

Last month, members from the SNA's elite commando unit killed 11 al-Shabaab fighters near Kismayo and recovered several weapons, including a PKM machine gun. The military also arrested a number of hard boyz during the crackdown, reports indicate.

The US has announced that its soldiers will be reporting in Somalia soonest to help in the fight against al-Shabaab, in what could tremendously boost efforts by local soldiers. The US has been a traditional partner of Somalia both on matters of security and development.

US-wanted drug trafficker with $1M bounty on his head arrested near Somalia border
[Garowe] The war against wildlife and drug trafficking in Kenya was boosted following the recent arrest of one of the notorious suspects, who has been evading police and intelligence teams' radar for a couple of years.

A joint operation conducted by authorities in Kenya and the US led to the arrest of Badru Abdul Aziz Saleh, for whom the US had announced a reward for information leading to his arrest. He was one of the two notorious criminals being sought by the State Department.

Officials in the US say their Kenyan counterparts received information that led to the arrest of Saleh in Garissa County near the Kenya-Somalia border in Liboi. An embassy statement said U.S. and Kenyan law enforcement officials cooperated to apprehend Saleh, The Voice of America reports.

Last Thursday, the US placed $1 million bounties on the information leading to the arrest of Saleh. Another suspect Abdi Hussein Ahmed still remains on the lam but security forces have activated the mission to have him arrested for drug trafficking.

Eric W. Kneedler, chargé d'affaires at the U.S. embassy in Nairobi, said Monday’s arrest of Saleh "would not have been possible without the public’s support. He appealed for information leading to Ahmed’s arrest.

Reports indicate that Saleh is currently held in a cop shoppe within Kenya's capital, Nairobi as authorities process his extradition to the US to face charges. The United States and Kenya are close partners on matters of counterterrorism and economic reforms.

Saleh was arrested back in 2019 for drug trafficking but released on bail, according to the U.S. State Department. A statement said he was a runaway with an outstanding warrant for his arrest. A federal grand jury in New York indicted him in 202, VOA noted.

The two; Saleh and Ahmed, are accused of distribution, transportation, and smuggling of 190 kilograms of rhinoceros horns and 10 tons of elephant ivory from different African countries.

Kenya has been battling to control wildlife and drug trafficking for decades and various operations have led to the arrest and prosecution of dozens of people. The US has been a close partner of Nairobi in fighting such vices which are detrimental to the economy.

Report: Cities in Arizona, Texas, Florida See Massive Population Gains as Democrat Cities Tumble
[Breitbart] The top 15 cities to experience the greatest population growth by percentage from 2020 to 2021 were in Texas, Arizona, Florida, Idaho, and Tennessee, Axios reported Monday.

“The U.S. is spreading out, heading South and West and creating new boomtowns, tech hubs and rising power centers,” according to the report.

Analyzing new data from the U.S. Census Bureau, the outlet found that Georgetown, Texas, had the most growth between July 2020 to July 2021 at 10.5 percent, “a rate that would double the population in less than seven years.”

The cities that followed in growth were Leander, Texas (10.1 percent); Queen Creek Town, Arizona (8.9 percent); Buckeye, Arizona (8.6 percent); and New Braunfels, Texas (8.3 percent).

Then came Fort Myers, Florida (6.8 percent); Casa Grande, Arizona (6.2 percent); Maricopa, Arizona (6.1 percent); North Port, Florida (5.5 percent); Spring Hill, Tennessee (5.4 percent); Goodyear, Arizona (5.4 percent); and Port St. Lucie, Florida (5.2 percent). The final three fastest growing areas were three suburbs of Boise, Idaho: Meridian (5.2 percent), Caldwell (5.2 percent), and Nampa (5. 0 percent).

Most of the cities on the list either strongly lean Republican or have a more purple voter demographic. In stark contrast, U.S. Census Bureau population estimates show Democrat-run Chicago, Los Angeles, and New York City leading the way in urban residential decline.

The data reveals eight of the 10 largest cities in the U.S. lost population up to mid-2021. Specifically between July 2020 and July 2021, New York lost more than 305,000 people, while Chicago and Los Angeles contracted by 45,000 residents and 40,000 people, respectively.

As Breitbart News previously reported:

The top 15 largest cities remained the same as in 2020 although more than half experienced decreases in their population between 2020 and 2021: New York, New York (-305,465); Los Angeles, California (-40,537); Chicago, Illinois (-45,175); Houston, Texas (-11,777); Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (-24,754); San Diego, California (-3,783); Dallas, Texas (-14,777); San Jose, California (-27,419); and Indianapolis, Indiana (-5,343).

While San Francisco is not one of the nation’s ten largest cities, almost 55,000 residents left that Democrat-run city, or 6.3 percent of its 2020 population, the highest percentage of any U.S. city.

Out of the ten largest cities in the U.S., San Antonio, Texas, and Phoenix, Arizona were the only two to gain more residents, at about 13,000 people each — less than one percent of their total populations, according to 2021 estimates.

Big Brother Is Watching: Report Says NYC Considering Subway Gun Detectors
Why not?
They have them in schools.

[Breitbart] Deploying high-tech scanners to spot someone carrying a gun into New York City’s subway system before they have a chance to use it is an option under increasing consideration by Mayor Eric Adams (D), a report Wednesday details.

AP outlines the argument in favor of random weapon checks has returned in the aftermath of a mass shooting on a New York City subway train.

Security experts counsel installing such a system in the city’s subway system has distinct challenges but is not impossible.

The fact scanners need to be accompanied by human operators to confront people carrying firearms illegally is the main problem rather than the availability of the technology.

If approved they will help stem one aspect of the violence that is increasingly coming to define the porous mass transit system.
One imagines most of the guns carried onto the subway are illegal — in that part of the world carried by gangbangers rather than solid citizens. If so, will the outcome be deemed racist?

It's a METAL DETECTOR, not a Gun Detector, nor a Bomb Detector.

Which means Laptops, cell phones, keys, belt buckets, Facial hardware, and more will all cause detections. Resulting in MASSIVE delays.

Given NYC subway has approximately 5.6 million daily riders headed to work with various metal items. Imagine delay of 5.6 million people taking their shoes off and on.

Plus, a nutcase will have more to shoot or bomb with everybody waiting in line to get through the metal detectors.

This stupid idea / trial balloon is going to be a "Gunny Highway moment".

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Four die in Tulsa, OK hospital shooting
[Fox23] At 7:15 p.m., Wednesday, June 1 2022, Deputy Chief Eric Dalgleish, with the Tulsa Police Department (TPD), Tulsa Mayor G.T. Bynum and St. Francis CEO, Dr. Cliff Robertson gave a press conference about the shooting that took place at the St. Francis campus.

Dalgleish confirmed that the shooting was in the Natalie Medical Building and was mostly limited to one floor.

He also confirmed that 4 innocents were dead, as well as the shooter. No officers were injured.

Police do not currently have an ID on the suspect, but he is a black male within the ages of 35 to 40. He was armed with a rifle and a handgun.

Dalgleish confirmed the following after a series of questions was directed to him:

TPD is unaware if the shooter was a patient, nor are they aware of any body armor being used.

Both weapons were fired.

They were not aware if he was targeting a specific person, this is still under investigation.

The second floor houses an orthopedic area, but TPD does not know if it is the whole floor.

Officers were able to go floor to floor and clear the building with the aid of other agencies.

TPD’s recent active shooter training was still fresh on their minds, but it is a topic TPD revisits regularly.

Overall, Dalgleish said he was very happy with TPD’s 3-minute response time, as well as the response and aid of every agency who helped today.

Russia’s ROSATOM starts production of equipment for Egypt’s first nuclear power plant
Here’s hoping Egypt can avoid both their traditional inshallah maintenance and their traditional inshallah security, or life will become even more interesting in that corner of the world.
[AlAhram] Russia’s State Atomic Energy Corporation (ROSATOM) announced on Wednesday that it started the production in Saint Petersburg of equipment for Egypt’s first nuclear plant, El-Dabaa, according to Sputnik news agency.

ROSATOM stated that it launched the production of electrical components for a reactor vessel of El-Dabaa at a production site in Saint Petersburg, the agency reported.

In November 2015, the Egyptian government signed an agreement with Russia to build Egypt’s first nuclear power plant in El-Dabaa region of Marsa Matrouh, which aims to generate a total of 4,800 megawatts through four reactors.

Earlier in 2022, CEO of ROSATOM Alexey Likhachev stated that construction of El-Dabaa is set to begin in July.

According to the project’s design, the nuclear plant will have four VVER-1,200 reactor units, with the first unit scheduled to be operational in 2026.

In November 2021, Egypt signed a long-term one million-dollar agreement with the Czech ÚJV Rež Research and Development company to consult on El-Dabaa Nuclear Plant, according to Chairperson of the Egyptian Nuclear and Radiology Regulatory Authority (ENRRA) Sami Shaaban.

According to the contract, ÚJV Rež will provide technical assistance to the ENRRA in licensing the nuclear plant.

Iraq
Iraq reports record high oil revenue for second time in 2022
[Rudaw] Iraq profited over $11 billion dollars in oil revenue in the month of May, marking the second record set by the country since the beginning of the year, the oil ministry announced on Wednesday.

The profits of May amounted to $11.436 billion dollars, which is the highest profit recorded by Iraq since March, with the highest revenue before that being recorded in 1972.

According to the report, Iraq exported 102,303,020 barrels of oil, with the bulk of the exports coming from oil fields in central and southern Iraq , as well as a small portion exported through the Ceyhan port in Kirkuk.

In April, Iraq pocketed $10.55 billion and exported 101.4 million barrels of oil, marking an increase in exports compared to March's numbers.

The Iraqi government is dependent on oil revenues to cover its costs and pay the salaries of civil servants. Despite suffering in much of 2021 due to record low oil prices, the country's economy is once again on the rise as oil prices are increasing globally.

The increase in oil prices in April helped Iraq pay off the final installments of the Gulf War reparations to Kuwait in December.

Global oil prices have soared amid shortfall fears following Russia's invasion of Ukraine, with the US repeatedly urging members of the Organization for the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) to increase their oil production in efforts to stabilize the market. Iraq is also part of the agreement on production levels.

Little progress made in Iraqi government formation talks: MP
[Rudaw] No major efforts have been made to breach Iraq's political barriers that are halting government formation efforts, a Coordination Framework MP told Rudaw on Wednesday while blaming the Sadrists for the deadlock suffocating the country.

"We have not discussed anything major, because the Sadrists do not want to reach an agreement with the Coordination Framework ... there is no understanding with the Sadrist bloc for forming the government," Fadhil Mawat told Rudaw’s Snur Majeed.

Mawat rebutted the Sadrists' claim that they hold the majority of seats in parliament, saying the "obstructing third" alongside the independent MPs hold more than 50 percent of parliamentary seats.

Sadrist Movement leader Moqtada Tater al-Sadr
...hereditary Iraqi holy man and leader of a political movement in Iraq. He had his hereditary rival, al-Khoei, assassinated only a few hours after the holy rival's appearance out of exile in 2003. Formerly an Iranian catspaw, lately he's gagged over some of their more outlandish antics, then went back to catspawry...
last month ruled out the possibility of striking a deal with the Coordination Framework, accusing Iraqi politicians of having "become an example of corruption and vice."

Iraq held elections in October following demands from nationwide protests. However,
there's more than one way to skin a cat...
eight months after the election, a new government is yet to be formed in the country due to political tensions.

Tensions between the Kurdish ruling parties also arose after both parties took opposing sides in the quest to form the government. The Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) joined forces in a tripartite alliance with the Sadrist bloc and the Sunni Sovereignty Alliance, while the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) allied with the pro-Iran
...The nation is noted for spontaneously taking over other countries' embassies, maintaining whorehouses run by clergymen, involvement in international drug trafficking, and financing sock puppet militias to extend the regime's influence...
Shiite framework.

Discussions within the Kurdish house are "very important" for putting an end to Iraq's shattered political scene, Mawat continued, announcing an upcoming visit by the Coordination Framework delegation to meet with the KDP.

"If there was an understanding between the two Kurdish parties, it would have an impact on the political process and would result in an understanding between the Shiite blocs too," he explained.

He further called on the KDP to resolve differences with the framework’s ally, the PUK.

However,
there's more than one way to skin a cat...
improving relations between the two Kurdish parties could take a hit when it comes to agreeing on a presidential candidate.

Masoud Haider, the senior advisor to KDP President Masoud Barzani, told Rudaw's Bestoon Othman on Wednesday that the KDP will not renounce their backing for Reber Ahmed to become the country's next president and that the decision is final.

Haider also contradicted Mawat's claims, instead saying the Shiites "are talking to each other, they are trying, it is possible at the end they find a way because the Shiites themselves are worried about the Iraqi streets blowing up in their face," warning of a possibility of renewed protests filling the cities' streets.

"It will not be like ... the October protests, but it will become a big danger for the whole political system in Iraq," he stressed, ringing alarm bells that "they may not get out this time."

Iraqis erupted into the streets in October 2020 in massive protests against corruption and unemployment and called for the provision of basic services. The protests resulted in early elections, but the country's political future remains mired by instability with repeated government formation efforts failing.

The inability to form a government hinders the current caretaker cabinet from carrying out proper, long-term decisions to stabilize various sectors of the country, including its economy, following a clarification from Iraq's Federal Supreme Court

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Turkish Recent Shelling On NE Syria Displaced More Than 200 Families- AANES

The Office of Refugees & Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) Affairs of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) said on Wednesday that more than 200 families were forced to flee to safe areas, as a result of the Turkish military escalation in northern Syria.

The office said in a statement that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is compromising with the West on launching a military operation in northern Syria in return for agreeing to Sweden and Finland to join NATO.

Since the Turkish President’s threats on May 23, dozens of villages and towns in the northern countryside of Aleppo, and the cities of Kobani and Ain Issa, and reaching the northern countryside of Hasakah, have been subjected to violent bombardment.

The statement said that more than 200 families were forced to flee from their homes, heading to camps of al-Twahina, Tel al-Saman, Newroz and the city of Hasakah.

The office warned that the ongoing escalation exacerbates the humanitarian crisis in the region and increases the burdens of the AANES.

“The timing aims to hit the agricultural season, which is already affected by weather factors. Syria is suffering from a severe shortage of wheat,” the office added.

The office called on the international community and international organizations concerning with human rights to work to stop the Turkish violations. It also called for not turning northeast Syria into a bargaining chip between Turkey and Western countries.

It also called for the opening the Tel Kojer (Al Yarubiyah) crossing border to deliver humanitarian and medical aid to the AANES areas.

Tel Kojer crossing, which is located on the Syrian-Iraqi border, was closed after the veto of Moscow and Beijing in the UN Security Council in early 2020.

The closure of al-Yarubiyah Crossing (Tel Kojer) continues and this prevents the entry of humanitarian aid, which puts humanitarian pressure on the displaced in the AANES areas.

Yellen Admits Error on Inflation
[MSN] Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen told CNBC that the White House has several strategies that will reduce inflation she conceded is too high for Americans.

In a separate interview Tuesday, Yellen admitted she was wrong when she called inflation "transitory" last year.
back in Feb 2021, Yellen backed Biden's $1.9T bill saying it wasn't inflationary - then in April 2021 she said, 'we have the tools to prevent inflation', then in May 2021 she said 'it will be transitory'. She also said that abortions reduce inflation. I can't find any quotes of hers pretending that the Build Back Better bill would reduce inflation so - assuming that is correct, at least she got one small thing right

Roadside explosion kills Turkish soldier in Siirt province
[Rudaw] A roadside kaboom went kaboom! on a group of Ottoman Turkish soldiers in the country’s Kurdish province of Siirt on Tuesday, killing a soldier and injuring another, state media reported, blaming the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) for the earth-shattering kaboom.

The incident took place in Pervari district while the soldiers were patrolling the area, Anadolu Agency reported, claiming that the bomb was planted by the PKK. Two Ottoman Turkish soldiers were maimed, with one of them succumbing to his injuries.

The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the occupiers of Greek Asia Minor...
’s defense ministry also confirmed the death of one soldier in Tuesday’s incident.

Turkey regularly carries out military operations against the PKK in the southeastern part of the country and in the Kurdistan Region.

The PKK is an gang fighting for the increased rights of Kurds in Turkey. It is designated as a terrorist organization by Ankara.

The Ottoman Turkish army has carried out seven stages of a series of military operations, code-named Eren, against the PKK in Kurdish areas.

The operation is named after 15-year-old Eren Bulbul who was killed during a clash between Ottoman Turkish forces and the PKK in Trabzon province on August 11, 2017. According to Ottoman Turkish media, Bulbul had spotted some PKK fighters in his hometown Macka, and subsequently informed the police. When he accompanied the police to the area, he was killed. The PKK confirmed their involvement in the clash, but did not mention Bulbul.

Iraq
Iran gas cuts over nonpayment of Iraqi debt to cause power shortages
Being a big shot is expensive in that part of the world. Can Iran afford it?
[Rudaw] [Rudaw] Iraq will soon face further power shortages, revealed the electricity ministry on Wednesday, as Iran
...Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979...
cuts five million cubic meters of exported gas over Baghdad’s failure to pay the debts owed to its neighbor.

Iran has cut a substantial amount of natural gas supplies to Iraq, as the delay in setting a budget by the Iraqi federal government has impeded Baghdad’s ability to repay over a billion dollars’ worth of debts owed to Tehran.

"Due to reducing five million cubic meters of imported Iranian gas, this has led to the necessity of limiting the system’s loads, and therefore has been a reason for reducing hours of electricity power supplied," read a statement from the ministry on Wednesday.

The statement added that the recent development is an additional motivation for the ministry to continue communications with Iran, in hopes of reaching a compromise that will satisfy both sides without leading to a decline in the quality of power provided, or harming the interests of the Iraqi people.

In April, Iran agreed to resume natural gas supplies to Iraq, under the condition that Baghdad repays debts owed to Tehran for previous rounds of gas supply.

Acting Electricity Minister Adil Karim said in April that Baghdad owes Tehran 1.69 billion dollars, adding that the latter is responsible for a minimum of 30 percent of Iraq’s energy.

Yahya al-Ishaq the head of Iran and Iraq’s Joint Chamber of Commerce, told Iranian media on Saturday that Tehran expects to export over $9 billion worth of goods to Baghdad by March next year.

Iraq suffers from chronic electricity shortages, especially felt when summer temperatures reach over 50 degrees Celsius. The high temperatures also lead to a very high consumption of power.

Iran cut its gas exports to Iraq last summer as well, leading to blackouts across the neighboring country.

Iraq expects to receive 55 million cubic feet of gas from Iran starting May 1, more than double the 25 million it receives at the moment, Karim said in April.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Turkey Bombs Two Villages In Manbij Countryside, North Aleppo

Turkish forces bombed on Wednesday the villages of Awn al-Dadat and Muhsinli, north of the city of Manbij in northern Syria, with mortar shells.

“The bombing started this afternoon and lasted for about two hours,” an informed source from the Manbij Military Council told North Press.

The populated villages were struck with 20, causing a state of panic among the residents, according to the source.

The Turkish bombing coincided with a Turkish drone targeting the village of Arab Hassan with several bombs.

The source did not mention any material damage or causalties.

The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) liberated Manbij from ISIS rule in 2016, and the city is now under the control of the SDF-aligned Manbij Military Council.

A drone targeted on Wednesday the medical clinics building in the town of Tel Rifaat in the northern countryside of Aleppo, causing great damage to the building.

The building includes gynecological clinics and pediatric surgery. However, no casualties were recorded because the building was empty, an eyewitness told North Press.

Since early May, the Turkish forces have escalated the shelling of villages in the northern countryside of Aleppo triggering panic and fear among residents in addition to material losses.

On Tuesday, Turkish artillery fired shells on the village of Aqiba, Soghana and Deir Jamal, south of Afrin, according to a local source.

The villages’ residents stayed in the basements, fearing of the heavy shelling, the source indicated.

The town of Tel Rifaat, which embraces part of the IDPs of Afrin region, has been threatened with invasion by Turkey and its affiliated factions since residents of Afrin fled their areas and headed towards the northern countryside of Aleppo amidst successive shelling that the town is witnessing.

Syrian government forces accompanied by Russian forces are running the town of Tel Rifaat and its vicinities, where their posts have been deployed since 2018.

Turkish forces shelled on Wednesday two villages in the north of Manbij, a city in Aleppo eastern countryside, northern Syria.

Media Center of Manbij Military Council, affiliated with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), said that the Turkish forces shelled the two villages of al-Mehsinli and Awn Dadat with heavy artillery.

The center added that the Turkish forces fired about 14 shells. However, no casualties were reported.

Turkey Bombs Tel Abyad Western Countryside In Raqqa

The Turkish forces and their affiliated opposition factions (SNA) bombed on Wednesday villages in the western countryside of Tel Abyad, north of Raqqa, north Syria, with heavy weapons.

Turkish forces and the SNA control the city of Tel Abyad and its eastern countryside, while some villages in the western and southern countryside are out of their control.

The bombing followed the killing and injury of members of the SNA in Tal Abyad, as a result of an explosion in the afternoon hours of Wednesday.

An eyewitness from the western countryside of Tel Abyad told North press that “The Turkish forces targeted the villages of al-Ahmadi, Qartil and the village of Riz, 25 km west of Tel Abyad.

“The Turkish shelling is still ongoing, albeit sporadically, on villages in the western countryside of Tel Abyad,” the source added.

In October 2019, Turkish forces launched a military operation called “Peace Spring” against the majority-Kurdish areas of Tel Abyad and Sere Kaniye (Ras al-Ain) in northeast Syria.

The operation, which was conducted with the support of Turkish-backed factions of the opposition-aligned Syrian National Army (SNA), caused the internal displacement of over 300,000 individuals.

The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) denied on Wednesday that it targeted the city of Tel Abyad, which is under the control of the Turkish forces and their affiliated opposition factions (SNA) in northern Syria.

The Sere Kaniye and Tel Abyad areas have been under the control of the Turkish forces and the affiliated armed opposition factions since late 2019, after they invaded the area, causing the displacement of nearly 300,000 indigenous people, according to human rights reports.

This came after pro-Syrian opposition websites and pages published news of missile strikes carried out by SDF targeting the center of Tel Abyad city.

Five people were killed on Wednesday afternoon and about twenty others were injured in an explosion in the center of Tel Abyad city. The explosion targeted a military center near Tel Abyad Hospital. Local sources suggested that the targeting was carried out by Russian drones.

Shanghai starts coming back to life as COVID lockdown eases
[AlAhram] Traffic, pedestrians and joggers reappeared on the streets of Shanghai on Wednesday as China's largest city began returning to normality amid the easing of a strict two-month COVID-19 lockdown that has drawn unusual protests over its heavy-handed implementation.

Shanghai's Communist Party committee, the city's most powerful political body, issued a letter online proclaiming the lockdown's success and thanking citizens for their ``support and contributions.`` The move came amid a steady rollback in compulsory measures that have upended daily life for millions while severely disrupting the economy and global supply chains.

While defending President and Communist Party chief Xi Jinping's hardline ``zero-COVID`` policy, the country's leadership appears to be acknowledging the public backlash against measures seen as trampling already severely limited rights to privacy and participation in the workings of government.

So a two-month severe lockdown still can't stop the virus? Put that in your pipe and smoke it, Tony Fauci!

Drop the heater, Studs, or you're hist'try!
following a conviction for having insulted President His Enormity, Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First
...Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him. It's a sin, a shame, and a felony to insult the president of Turkey. In Anatolia did Recep Bey a stately Presidential Palace decree, that has 1100 rooms. That's 968 more than there are in the White House, 400 more than in Versailles, and 325 more than Buckingham Palace, so you know who's really most important...
and other public officials.

The sentence against Canan Kaftancioglu, who leads the Republican People's Party (CHP) in Istanbul, also bans her from running in next year's legislative and presidential elections.

On May 12, the Supreme Court
...the political football known as The Highest Court in the Land, home of penumbrae and emanations...
of Appeals confirmed Kaftancioglu's conviction on three counts including over an anti-Erdogan tweet.

Although her sentence was for four years, 11 months and 20 days, party officials earlier told AFP she would be freed at any time as can happen for sentences shorter than five years.

Tens of thousands of people rallied in Istanbul on May 21 to express their support after the court handed down its sentence.

Kaftancioglu, a doctor by profession, played a key role in the surprise victory of the CHP's Istanbul mayoral candidate Ekrem Imamoglu in 2019 -- the first time Erdogan's party had lost power in Turkey's biggest city for 25 years.

Imamoglu himself will appear in court on Wednesday on charges of insulting public officials. If convicted, he faces up to four years in jail.

Kaftancioglu will attend the hearing, her office said.

Political opponents have accused Erdogan's government of putting pressure on the opposition ahead of next year's vote.

Authorities Find 70 Missing Children During Texas Operation: ‘Our Most Precious Resource'
[Breitbart] Seventy missing children were found by authorities, most of them in West Texas, during a lengthy effort dubbed “Operation Lost Souls.”

KCBD reported Tuesday:

The children were found in Midland, Odessa, El Paso, Dallas/Ft. Worth, Colorado, and Ciudad Juarez, Mexico. The operation ran from the end of April through mid-May in El Paso, Midland, Ector, and Tom Green Counties. Many of the children were runaways and were between the ages of 10 and 17. Some children were victims of sex trafficking, and physical and sexual abuse.

Sex trafficking is described as a form of human trafficking and it is also known as modern-day slavery, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

This month, several people were arrested in a human trafficking case regarding the disappearance of a 15-year-old Texas girl from a Dallas Mavericks game she attended with her father.

“The victim’s and her family’s attorney, Zeke Fortenberry of Fortenberry PLLC, said in a press release that the child was found in a hotel in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, on April 18 – eleven days after her disappearance – and was reunited with her family,” Breitbart News relayed.

Per the recent operation, agencies offered victim services and counseling to the children who were recovered, as well as to their relatives.

“Operation Lost Souls exemplifies Homeland Security Investigations’ [HSI] commitment to protecting the public from crimes of victimization. In this case, we are looking out for our children – our community’s most precious resource,” explained HSI El Paso Deputy Special Agent in Charge Taekuk Cho.

Dutch, Germany to jointly drill for gas in North Sea after Russia cut gas supplies
That’s an awfully high horse they’re climbing down, but at least they finally are, and after the pain and expense the world will be more resilient — and considerably less subject to Russian pressure. Also less subject to pressure from the Muslim world. Two more unexpected consequences of that little war in Ukraine.
[AlAhram] The Netherlands and Germany are to jointly drill for a new gas field in the North Sea, the Dutch government said on Wednesday, a day after Russia cut gas supplies to the country.

Deputy minister of mining Hans Vijlbrief "issued permits for the Dutch part today", it said in a statement, adding that "an accelerated procedure for the required permits is underway" in Germany.

"The cabinet supports gas extraction in the North Sea in order, for example, to have sufficient gas to heat our houses," the economics and climate ministry said.

The controversial plan to drill for gas some 10 nautical miles (19 kilometres, 11 miles) offshore on the Dutch-German border is not new, but has taken on a new urgency since Russia's Gazprom announced Tuesday it was halting all gas supplies to the Netherlands.

This came after Dutch energy firm GasTerra refused to pay in rubles following the Russian military offensive in Ukraine.

The German state of Lower Saxony a year ago decided not to issue permits for the drilling near the eco-sensitive islands of Schiermonnikoog and Borkum and Dutch environmental groups still have concerns.

However,
Switzerland makes more than cheese...
Lower Saxony "is now making a different decision because of the war in Ukraine", the Dutch ministry said.

The first gas from the platform -- to be powered by a nearby German wind farm -- is expected to be extracted by 2024, it added.

Also, according to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, 139 children are considered missing in Ukraine during the war. Another 234,000 children were illegally taken to Russia from the occupied territories.

14:35 The missile defense missiles and radar promised by Scholz to Kiev are not in the reserve of the Bundeswehr, so deliveries can come directly from enterprises, the German Defense Ministry said.

14:33 The head of the international committee of the State Duma Leonid Slutsky counts on the "accession" of the Donetsk, Luhansk and Kherson regions to Russia in July: "The referendum on the entry of the DPR, LPR and the Kherson region could take place simultaneously, it would be logical" . He stressed that Russia "has enough resources to ensure the inclusion of these territories in its composition."

14:32 The UK and the EU have agreed to ban the insurance of ships with Russian oil, writes the Financial Times. Thus, carriers of Russian oil will lose access to the British Lloyd's of London insurance market, the largest for shipping. This will limit the ability of the Russian Federation to export crude oil by sea, it will have to look for other insurers.

14:21 A National War Memorial Cemetery will be created in Ukraine - the corresponding bill has already been adopted. As people's deputy Volodymyr Vyatrovich said, it will be a place of memory and glory of the heroes who died for Ukraine, with a memorial and a museum complex. According to him, the American Arlington, where war veterans, presidents, astronauts and heads of the US Supreme Court are buried, will become a model for creation.

14:15 Russian General Alexander Dvornikov, who was allegedly appointed to lead all Russian troops in Ukraine, has most likely already been removed from command. Sources of The New York Times say that the general has stopped appearing at the front, he has not been seen for two weeks.

After the appointment, Dvornikov tried to establish interaction between air and ground units. The general was able to streamline the processes in the Russian army - Russian units began to coordinate common goals.

However, at the global level, this changes too little, and the Russian army continues to make the same mistakes as at the very beginning of the war. Western military experts note that there are some things that can no longer be corrected during the war. For example, the lack of opportunity and ability for junior officers to independently make decisions on the battlefield without the consent of senior management.

14:07 Governor of St. Petersburg Alexander Belov arrived in Mariupol. The Russian-appointed "mayor" Konstantin Ivashchenko, together with the leader of the "DNR" Denis Pushilin, is giving him a tour of the ruins of the Drama Theater, adviser to the mayor of Mariupol Petr Andryushchenko said.

13:59 Peskov said that the supply of American weapons to Ukraine "does not contribute to the awakening of Kiev's desire to resume peace negotiations." He also repeated once again that a meeting between Putin and Zelensky "is not ruled out a priori," but it should be prepared and finalized by a document, work on which has now been stopped.

Commenting on the possibility of the "DNR" and "LNR", Kherson and Zaporizhia regions becoming part of Russia, Peskov said that residents "should make their own decisions about their future."

As for the export of grain, he said, "it is necessary that Ukraine bother to move on to demining the ports, then Russia will assist in the exit of ships with grain."

13:46 Podolyak, on the air of the telethon, urged to reduce the degree around the topic of arms supplies: "Firstly, we get everything we need anyway. Maybe not as fast as we wanted ... and this is bad, because we need as soon as possible. But we are getting it, because there is an anti-Russian and pro-Ukrainian consensus, including in the military elites of the West."

He also recalled that people need hype: “I generally believe that everything related to the supply of weapons for us should be closed in the informational sense. If there is a weapon, it will be at the front, it will be used, after that there will be reports, how we did."

And the third component, according to the adviser to the head of the Presidential Office, is Russian information campaigns, which are designed to discredit NATO as weapons suppliers, and should create chaos, including informational chaos, and somehow influence the military elites of Western countries so that they have less desire to send weapons to Kyiv.

13:35 Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas said that at the meeting of the European Council on May 30-31, EU leaders discussed the advisability of phone calls to Putin, "there was a very tense discussion." In her opinion, it is obvious that, despite the good intentions of the initiators of the talks with the President of the Russian Federation, "it can be seen that Putin does not want to take any measures."

“But Scholz and Macron say they are calling Zelensky because Putin does not want to talk with Ukraine. Plus, as far as I understand, Zelensky asked them to be intermediaries,” Kallas added.

13:19 Senator of the Federation Council from Crimea Sergey Tsekov said that "referendums" on joining Donbass, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions to Russia could take place within a year.

13:04 Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation Sergey Ryabkov said that the supply of weapons to Ukraine creates the risk of a direct clash with the United States, regardless of how Washington argues them. "The fact that the United States, at the head of a group of states, is purposefully pumping weapons into the Kyiv regime is obvious," Ryabkov said, adding that Moscow would achieve the goals of its "special operation" in Ukraine in any case.

12:52 Troops of the Russian Federation continue to beat across Nikolaev and area, as a result of attacks in a day 22 people were wounded, the head of a regional council Anna Zamazeeva reported. According to her, the Nikolaevsky and Bashtansky districts, Bereznegovatskaya, Shirokovskaya and other communities were shelled. Residential buildings damaged. Also, the invaders continue to hit the residential areas of Nikolaev, Ochakov was fired at night.

12:36 Russian invaders lose in street battles, so they completely destroy Ukrainian cities, Deputy Defense Minister Anna Malyar said on the air of the telethon: "They try not to enter and not start street fights, because they lose in street fights. Obviously, because of this they prefer to destroy the city altogether and simply seize territory without social infrastructure."

She also noted that the Russian Federation is trying to reach the borders of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions: “This is an ambition that Putin has pursued for the previous eight years. consider some kind of negotiations."

12:24 The Ministry of Internal Affairs has launched a hotline for relatives of prisoners of war, missing and dead Ukrainian soldiers. During the call, you can provide information about your relatives, get psychological help, get clarifications about the rights that relatives of prisoners of war, missing and dead soldiers have. Hotline number: +380 89 420 18 66.

12:03 Denmark is holding a referendum today regarding the participation of the kingdom in the defense cooperation program in the EU. Denmark is a member of NATO, but remains the only EU state not participating in the Common Defense and Security Policy (CSDP). The decision to revise the country's security policy was prompted by the Russian military aggression against Ukraine.

Nearly 4.3 million Danish voters must decide whether to waive the exemptions that have kept Copenhagen out of the EU's common security policy for 30 years. The decision to hold a referendum in early March was announced by Prime Minister Matte Frederiksen after the five leading parliamentary parties agreed to change the country's security policy.

11:46 The Russians are destroying Ukrainian infrastructure because they are not interested in it. Moscow plans to use the territory of Ukraine as a springboard to move the war on Europe, said Deputy Defense Minister Anna Malyar.

11:40 Over the past day, the Russians fired at the Kievsky district of Kharkov, there were no casualties. The Kharkiv, Izyum, Bogodukhovsky and Chuguevsky districts were also massively shelled, Oleg Sinegubov, head of the OVA, said. As a result of the shelling, four civilians were killed and seven more were injured. The fighting in the area continues, the enemy is focused on defense and is trying to hold their positions.

11:36 Germany, in agreement with the Netherlands, will supply Ukraine with the most modern air defense system that Germany has - IRIS-T , Scholz said during a speech in the Bundestag. With the help of IRIS-T SLM, you can protect an entire city: it is able to repel attacks from combat aircraft, helicopters, cruise missiles, rocket artillery, drones, anti-radar missiles and bombs.

In mid-May, Bild announced the delivery of these systems. The publication reported that the system could be fully launched in Ukraine from November.

11:33 The United States is ready to provide letters of guarantee to insurance companies and exporters for the export of grain from Russia, said the country's permanent representative to the UN Linda Thomas-Greenfield. According to her, Western sanctions do not apply to the supply of grain and fertilizers from the Russian Federation, "but the companies are a little nervous." Therefore, Washington is ready to send them letters of guarantee to support efforts to export grain from the Russian Federation.

11:30 The Russians are afraid of a counteroffensive and a breakthrough of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Nikolaev region, so they are undermining bridges. In Nikolaev itself, shelling continues to intensify, "although the city is coming to life," said the head of the OVA, Vitaly Kim. He urged the residents of the city, who left it and want to return, to wait another two to three weeks.

11:26 It is planned to resume water supply in Slovyansk today by the end of the day, Vadim Lyakh, head of the CAA, said. The exception is the Artem-Lesnoy micro-districts, where water supply will be resumed after the high-voltage line that feeds the Mayatsky water conduit is repaired.

11:20 Russians control 70% of Severodonetsk , said the head of the Luhansk OVA Serhiy Gaidai. According to him, part of the Ukrainian troops retreated to more advantageous, pre-prepared positions, and part continues fighting inside the city.

11:18 An international team of lawyers is preparing a massive civil lawsuit against the Russian Federation for compensation for damages from the war. According to The Guardian, a team of about a hundred lawyers and several large law firms wants to seek monetary compensation for millions of Ukrainians. They are going to sue through various US and UK authorities in order to achieve the arrest of Russian assets around the world. The lawsuit will be private and unrelated to the Ukrainian state.

London-based lawyer Jason McKue, who is coordinating the project, believes that claims for reparations from state to state rarely succeed, so the goal of a private initiative is to speed up the process. Lawyers will insist that the Russian invasion is not only a war of aggression, but also partially falls under the legal definition of terrorism, which will make it easier to obtain compensation.

The international team's ties to Ukrainian officials are forged by businessman Serhiy Taruta, who also suffered from the Russian invasion. According to Taruta, at least a trillion dollars can be sued from Russia. And the first to receive compensation, according to him, should be those who lost relatives in the war, were injured and lost their property. Secondly, we should talk about payments to the state and businesses.

10:50 The Russians are deploying rocket launchers on Zmeiny Island - this may mean that they want to protect their ships from the Armed Forces of Ukraine and plan to use weapons along the coast of the Odessa region, OK Pivden reported. In particular, the enemy is installing missile and gun systems, multiple launch rocket systems and an electronic station on Zmeinoye.

At the same time, there are no signs of preparations for a landing operation by the Russian Federation, "but attempts to approach and land the DRG on the coast or the mouth of the Danube or demonstrative shelling of coastal areas are not ruled out," the operational command notes.

10:36 The United States does not see that Russia is ready to use nuclear weapons, but Washington considers the Kremlin's rhetoric dangerous and warns that a nuclear strike will lead to serious consequences, Biden wrote in his column for The New York Times.

10:09 Switzerland has vetoed a request from Denmark to send Swiss-made armored personnel carriers to Ukraine, Reuters writes. The State Secretariat for Economic Affairs rejected Denmark's application to supply Ukraine with about 20 Piranha III infantry fighting vehicles. Neutral Switzerland requires foreign countries buying Swiss weapons to obtain permission to re-export them.

10:04 The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation announced the start of exercises involving nuclear forces. The exercises in the Ivanovo Region involve the RS-24 Yars nuclear systems equipped with an intercontinental ballistic missile with a range of up to 12,000 km.

10:02 In Mariupol, the occupation authorities are preparing to demolish most of the buildings that suffered from their own shelling. Mobile brigades from the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Russian Federation and the military go around the surviving apartments where people live and warn them about resettlement. Elderly people are planned to be compactly settled in dormitories on Stroiteley Ave., and people involved in work in the port, at the Ilyich plant and debris removal will be occupied in their apartments, said Petr Andryushchenko, adviser to the mayor of Mariupol.

Owners of houses who plan to demolish, regardless of the condition of the apartments, are literally evicted to the street. When asked where to live, they answer that this is not the business of the occupation authorities. Thus, the occupiers embody two scenarios at the same time - coercion to deport to Russia and to work for people of working age, Andryushchenko notes.

09:55 In the center of Odessa, they began to remove the fortifications installed in the first days of the war. As the mayor of the city Gennady Trukhanov explained, this is not a cancellation, but a change in the format of the city's defense. Barriers are also being removed to restore the life of the city - this will allow small and medium-sized businesses to resume work. In particular, fortifications are being moved from Lanzheronovskaya, Rishelyevskaya and Ekaterininskaya streets.

09:50 If Putin manages to gain a foothold in the Donbas, this will have dangerous consequences for the whole of Europe, and the Kremlin will take advantage of the situation to regroup its forces, German Foreign Minister Annalena Berbock said on the air of the ARD TV channel. According to her, in order to prevent such a scenario, it is necessary to continue supporting Ukraine.

09:48 Russians launched a missile attack on Slavyansk early this morning. Three private houses in one of the microdistricts of the city were destroyed, about ten more were damaged. There were no casualties, the OVA said.

09:24 British intelligence notes that Russian ground operations remain concentrated in a small sector of the Luhansk region, fighting has intensified on the streets of Severodonetsk.

Outside the Donbass, Russia continues to launch long-range missile strikes against infrastructure in Ukraine. Under them, in particular, fell a strategically important bridge that connects Ukraine with Romania and Ukrainian ports on the Danube, which have become critical for Ukrainian exports after the blockade of Ukrainian Black Sea ports by Russia, British analysts say.

09:21 Russian troops entered the central districts of Severodonetsk, said the head of the Lugansk OVA Sergey Gaidai: "The Russians are conducting assault operations, gaining a foothold in the center of Severodonetsk, while continuing to destroy infrastructure and industrial facilities. At 18:55 they attacked the Azot association from an aircraft, in as a result of which poisonous substances were released. In the afternoon, the enemy fired artillery at the Proletariy plant in Lisichansk - damage was recorded to several premises. "

09:14 The General Staff announced the approximate losses of the enemy on the morning of June 1. The enemy suffered the greatest losses in the Krivoy Rog and Bakhmut directions.

  • personnel - about 30,700 (+200) people liquidated,

  • tanks - 1361 (+3),

  • armored combat vehicles - 3343 (+41),

  • artillery systems - 659 (+10),

  • MLRS - 207 (+0),

  • air defense systems - 94 (+1),

  • aircraft - 208 (+0),

  • helicopters - 175 (+1),

  • UAV operational-tactical level - 519 (+4),

  • cruise missiles - 120 (+0),

  • ships/boats - 13 (+0),

  • automotive equipment and tankers - 2290 (+15),

  • special equipment - 49 (+1).

08:54 Forbes found out which countries of the world support Ukraine the most, based on 11 criteria:

08:42 Zelensky said in an interview with Newsmax that Ukraine does not intend to attack Russian territory, but we need missile systems that hit further than 100 km: "The White House says that we can use them to attack Russia. Listen, we are not planning to attack Russia. We are not interested in the Russian Federation, we are not fighting on its territory."

08:40 The enemy, albeit slowly, is moving towards the borders of the Dnipropetrovsk region, erasing cities and villages from the face of the earth, said the head of the UVA, Valentin Reznichenko. "Therefore, we are working around the clock, without unnecessary PR support, to strengthen not only the defense lines, but also to strengthen the defense system of Ukraine as a whole," he added.

According to Reznichenko, that night the enemy again fired artillery at the Zelenodolsk bulk, people were not injured. In the Shirokovskaya community, electricians are repairing a line damaged by yesterday's mortar attack in one of the villages.

08:19 The United States will not seek Putin's resignation and will not strike Russian territory if Russia does not strike the United States or its allies, Biden said in his column for The New York Times. He also believes that the war in Ukraine should end at the negotiating table, and American weapons will help in this - "so that Ukraine can fight on the battlefield and take the strongest possible position at the negotiating table."

At the same time, Biden stressed that Washington will not "put pressure on the government of Ukraine - publicly or privately - in order to achieve any territorial concessions." In his opinion, negotiations with Russia have stalled not because Ukraine has turned away from diplomacy, "they have stalled because Russia continues to wage war to take control of as much of Ukraine as possible."

08:17 Taiwan will provide Ukraine with $6 million. Taiwanese Minister Joseph Wu said that his people sympathize with Ukraine, since they themselves could potentially suffer from a Chinese military invasion, CNN reports.

07:56 In the Severodonetsk direction, the enemy conducted assault operations in the northern, southern and eastern districts of the city of Severodonetsk, achieved success with individual units, is fixed in the city center, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reports in the morning report .

Fighting continues for the Lisichansk-Bakhmut highway, the Russians are trying to oust the Armed Forces of Ukraine from Belogorovka. There are also battles for Vrubovka, which connects this highway and Ukrainian troops in Gorsky.

In the Slavic direction, the enemy regrouped troops. As a result of losses in the Dolgenkiy area, he led separate units to recovery in Izyum, strengthened the grouping in Kupyansk, conducted reconnaissance using UAVs in the areas of Izyum, Pervomaisky and Bolshaya Kamyshevakhi.

In the Donetsk direction, the aggressor's units, supported by aviation, are concentrating their main efforts on conducting offensive operations. In the Limansky direction, the enemy has reinforced the units and regrouped them, is advancing in the direction of the Liman - Old Caravan.

06:57 Ukraine daily loses 60-100 soldiers killed and about 500 more wounded , Zelensky said in an interview with Newsmax. He stressed that the situation is very difficult, especially in the east of the country.

04:01 The American Institute for the Study of War (ISW) notes that Moscow's concentration on the capture of Severodonetsk and Donbass creates vulnerabilities for Russia in the Kherson region, where the counteroffensive of Ukrainian forces is underway. The Kherson region is a critical territory for both sides, and the Ukrainian leadership had to make an incredibly difficult but correct choice - not to allocate more resources to saving Severodonetsk. The decision to withdraw was strategically sound, albeit painful.

Analysts point out that Ukraine should conserve its more limited resources and focus on reclaiming critical territory rather than defending territory whose control will not determine the outcome of the war.

It is also noted that the competent Ukrainian prioritization of counter-offensive and defense operations pushed the Russians almost out of Kharkov's reach and stopped the Russian offensive in the Izyum region. These achievements are more important than the defense of Severodonetsk, according to ISW.

03:15 The United States on Wednesday, June 1, will present a new package of military assistance to Ukraine , which will include HIMARS missile systems, counter-battery and anti-aircraft radars, Javelin anti-tank systems, helicopters, cars, the White House said. The military aid package is estimated at about $700 million.

At the same time, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre clarified that the United States would not send long-range missiles to Kyiv for use outside of Ukraine.

00:17 The Biden administration opposes the confiscation of Russian assets, as this could undermine the US reputation as an investment haven, writes The New York Times, citing sources in the White House.

Iraq
Family members of ISIS militants arrive in Nineveh
See also here.

A convoy carrying ISIS militants has reached Nineveh Governorate, coming from the Syrian Al-Hol camp.

Shafaq News Agency correspondent reported that the convoy reached Sinjar district, west of the city of Mosul, and is heading to Al-Jada'a camp.

The convoy is accompanied by close protection and includes about 150 families.

Earlier today, the Joint Operations Command revealed that it had received from the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) 50 ISIS members through the Traibeel Border Crossing in the far west of Iraq.

Since 2021, the Iraqi government has transferred dozens of Iraqi families that some of whose members belong to ISIS, from the Al-Hol camp in Syria to the Al-Jada'a camp in Nineveh, amid the refusal and objection of the local government and residents of Nineveh.

It's noteworthy that the Al-Hol camp is one of the largest camps where ISIS families and members in northeastern Syria live. There are more than 60,000 Syrian citizens and other nationalities living there.

Al-Hol houses the wives, widows, children, and other family members of ISIS militants — more than 80% of the residents are women and children. The majorities are Iraqis and Syrians, but it includes some 10,000 people from 57 other countries, housed in a highly secured separate area known as the Annex. Many of them remain die-hard ISIS supporters.

Africa North
Point-blank: On Egypt and Tunisia
[AlAhram] Has Tunisia at last emerged from the dark tunnel of chaos to the light of stability? Tunisian President Kais Saied has recently formed an advisory committee to draw up a new constitution to establish what he termed "the new republic".

According to his roadmap, the committee will submit the draft to him on 20 June and a referendum will be held on it on 25 July. Tunisia is thus emulating the course Egypt took after the Moslem Brüderbund rode the crest of anarchy to assume power in Egypt, just as the Ennahda Party did in Tunisia.

Also, just as the Moslem Brüderbund stalled the realisation of the new order to which the Egyptian revolution had aspired, so too did the empowered Ennahda engender a state of anarchy that lasted more than a decade.

Yet, whereas Egyptians rose up after only a year of the Moslem Brüderbund regime and asked the army to step in to end rule by the Supreme Guide, Tunisia continued to flounder in an endless cycle of political conflicts between civil forces pressing for modern democratic government and Islamists aspiring to a monopoly on power. The result was political and institutional paralysis causing unprecedented economic deterioration. Unemployment rose to 19 per cent. The poverty rate climbed to 15 per cent nationwide and to over 40 per cent in some governorates.

According to the Institut arabe des chefs d’entreprises (IACE), more than 300 foreign businesses and branches closed down and left the country. Then Covid-19 struck, costing the Tunisian economy more than eight billion Tunisian dinars ($2.75 billion), according to the Tunisian National Institute of Statistics. In light of the gravity of this decade-long crisis, President Saied took several extraordinary steps. He dissolved the parliament, dismissed the government and dissolved the High Judicial Council. More recently, he appointed a new electoral commission before forming the above-mentioned constitutional drafting committee. As he explained at the time, his aim is "to rescue and change Tunisia after a decade of ruin."

How similar yet how different Tunisia’s experience has been compared to that of Egypt, which surpassed all those problems years ago, enabling it to march boldly and rapidly towards reconstruction and comprehensive development.
They forgot shoulder to shoulder, but most of the standards are contained —an impressive piece of writing! — in that single sentence.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Terrorist attacks not surprising given Palestinian suffering, says EU envoy
[JPost] EU giving succor and justification for brutality and terror just because they hate the Juice
"What do you think a child who sees the houses of their parents, their brothers and sisters demolished?"

Terrorist attacks against Israelis should not be surprising given the depth of Palestinian suffering from the 74 years of conflict with Israel, according to European Union Representative Sven Kuhn von Burgsdorff.

"When you are a Palestinian child living next to the separation wall, what do you think this child will grow up with," he said Tuesday at an Alliance for Middle East Peace conference in Jerusalem.

THE PALESTINIAN EXPERIENCE
"What do you think a child who sees the houses of their parents, their brothers and sisters demolished because he or she was a suspected or real terrorist" will feel? he asked. "What kind of hatred will burn in this child? What do you think will happen?"

Burgsdorff cited the spate of terrorist attacks that have rocked the country since the start of the year.

"We saw, a few months ago and the last few weeks, terrible terror attacks perpetrated on Israeli territory," he said. "Twenty Israeli innocents lost their lives. But don’t be surprised, because there is hatred burning in many of these young Palestinians."

Burgsdorff gave a brief but impassioned speech about the overall toll the Israel-Palestinian conflict has taken on the lives of Palestinians and the particular danger that exists now, given the absence of any peace process.

He spoke to a gathering of diplomats and activists who gathered to explore the role civil society can have in ending the conflict.

PEACE IS NON-NEGOTIABLE
Burgsdorff said the actions of civil society and measures taken to improve the lives of Palestinians are important, but they are not enough to make the difference unless a resolution to the conflict is also in the offing.

"It is not sufficient to just talk about people-to-people contacts," he said. "It is not sufficient to just underline the importance of civil society."

"It does not matter whether you shrink the conflict," he added. "It does not matter if you provide economic incentives, unless human beings also have dignity and justice."

"We need to bring to the fore and to the worldwide attention the plight the people of Palestine have been under for the past 74 years," Burgsdorff said, citing events dating back to the 1948 War of Independence.

As an example, he said thousands of Palestinians had been killed since 2008, without distinguishing between innocent Palestinian civilians and those engaged in violent activity.

Burgsdorff did not specify whether they were Palestinian militants or civilians killed during the three Gaza wars nor if they were Palestinian terrorists executing attacks against Israelis or rioters who died in clashes with the IDF.

"Since 2008, thousands of Palestinians have been killed," he said. "Only a handful of those perpetrators have been brought to justice, only a handful."
"The truth needs to be told"

"The truth needs to be told," he added. "Without truth, there is no accountability; without accountability, there is no justice; without justice, there is no peace."

Burgsdorff warned against the radicalization of Palestinian society as despair, frustration and hatred grows with no end in sight.

"Work on the ground can only bear fruits if there is political engagement," he said. "If political decision-makers understand that, unless they make this conflict a priority... we are not going to see an end to this conflict."

"This is a call for action," Burgsdorff said. He urged the Biden administration and the 27 member states of the EU to "act now and not wait any longer."

Mr. Sven Kühn Von Burgsdorff, Ambassador Of The European Union In Palestina

[EEAS]After his German military service in a Paratrooper Regiment, Mr. Sven Kühn von Burgsdorff studied Political Science and International Law at Freiburg University, Germany, where he graduated first with a MA and then with a PhD, followed by a post-graduate degree in Development Studies from the German Development Institute (DIE), Berlin. He then joined the German Development Cooperation (GIZ) with assignments in Lome, Togo, and Eschborn, Germany.

Mr. Kühn von Burgsdorff became an EU civil servant in 1992 and has worked ever since in the field of EU external relations, with posts and assignments in Maputo, Bratislava, Havana, Port-au-Prince, Noumea, Miami, Juba and Brussels.

Turkish Forces Shell Villages In Kobani

Turkish forces shelled on Wednesday villages in the southeastern countryside of Kobani, northern Syria, with heavy artillery.

The shelling affected the villages of Qijkran and Abu Nituna near Kobani Cement Factory, a local source told North Press.

“Approximately, four shells hit the vicinity of the factory,” the source added.

Days ago, Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that Ankara would soon launch new military operations along its southern borders to create “30-km deep safe zones in response to threats coming from these regions.”

Turkey has recently intensified its attacks by shelling the border villages with heavy weapons to intimidate the population, displace them and replace them with the families of its affiliated armed factions, known as Syrian National Army (SNA).

Afghanistan
Nations Involved to Resume TAPI Pipeline Project
[Khaama] The Pakistani Ambassador to Afghanistan Mansour Ahmad Khan said the countries involved in the TAPI Pipeline want to move forward, according to sources, exclaiming the security tensions are eased to resume the project.

The Turkmenistan—Afghanistan—Pakistan—India Pipeline, also known as Trans-Afghanistan Pipeline, is a natural gas pipeline being developed by the Galkynysh — TAPI Pipeline Company Limited with participation of the Asian Development Bank.

According to Khan, the security challenges facing the TAPI pipeline has been resolved, saying this project is an important progress in linking Central Asia to South Asia.

"All the countries involved in TAPI project, they want the TAPI project to move forward as soon as possible because it will be important for energy supplies from Central Asia to South Asia," he said, as TOLOnews quoted.

However, the Pakistani diplomat sees "lack of banking transaction" a major challenge for TAPI to be continued at the moment, as the Afghanistan is cutting a rough time due to its political instabilities and financial crisis.

"...I think in the last few months, negotiations have been underway. One of the main challenges in the past has been security," he added. "One of the challenges now in the current circumstances is lack of banking transaction."

Meanwhile, Ministry of Economy said the implementation of the TAPI project would boost the economy and reduce the rate of poverty in the country, which has drastically increased since the Taliban takeover last August.

"There isn’t any specific political obstacle for the TAPI project, but there are some technical problems that will be solved soon," said Abdul Latif Nazari, Deputy Minister of Economy.

While involved counties bid to move forward with TAPI project despite ongoing political and economic instabilities, the Taliban government said officials failed to held a particular ceremony for resumption of the project.

"The work on the TAPI project has begun and it has not been halted but the ceremony that should be held for the resumption of work on it has not happened," said Inamullah Samangani, deputy spokesman for the Islamic Emirate.

WHAT IS TAPI PIPELINE?
The Turkmenistan—Afghanistan—Pakistan—India (TAPI) Pipeline, also known as Trans-Afghanistan Pipeline, is a natural gas pipeline being developed by the Galkynysh — TAPI Pipeline Company Limited with participation of the Asian Development Bank.

The pipeline will transport natural gas from the Galkynysh Gas Field in Turkmenistan through Afghanistan into Pakistan and then to India. Proponents of the project see it as a modern continuation of the Silk Road.

The pipeline will be 1,420 mm (56 in) in diameter with a working pressure of 100 atm (10,000 kPa). The capacity will be 33×109 m3 (1.2×1012 cu ft) of natural gas per year of which 5×109 m3 (180×109 cu ft) will be provided to Afghanistan and 14×109 m3 (490×109 cu ft) to each Pakistan and India. Six compressor stations would be constructed along the pipeline.

Construction on the project started in Turkmenistan on 13 December 2015, work on the Afghan section began in February 2018, and work on the Pakistani section was planned to commence in December 2018.

The pipeline was intended to be operational by 2019. But due to underlying conditions, the project has been delayed over time and now the involved countries show willingness to complete the project.

SDF hands over 50 ISIS militants to Iraq
See more about their arrival in Iraq here. [Rudaw] The Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) on Wednesday handed over 50 alleged members of the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(ISIS) to Iraq, according to the Security Media Cell.

Iraq's Joint Operations Command "through joint understandings and agreements and with the aim of combatting ISIS terrorist gangs at the regional and international levels" received 50 suspected ISIS fighters from the SDF at the border crossing near Rabia town, the media cell said.

The suspects will be handed over to the Federal Intelligence and Investigations Agency in the interior ministry, where they will be investigated and charged appropriately.

The same scenario also played out in January when Iraq previously received 50 ISIS members from Syria at the Rabia border crossing.

#1  where they will be investigated and charged appropriately.

This should be handled like cross border carbon credits. Kill them in place and send an invoice.
Cheaper.

18 killed in notorious al-Hol camp in 2022
[Rudaw] The notorious al-Hol camp in northeast Syria (Rojava) saw at least 18 deaths since the beginning of the year, Hawar News Agency (ANHA) reported on Wednesday amid a destabilizing situation in the camp.

Al-Hol camp continues to live up to its "ticking time bomb" label and violence in the camp have seen a surge in the past five months, documenting at least 18 murders and a further 13 injuries, ANHA said.

The camp has seen a total of 148 murders and 103 injuries since it first opened, it added.

The Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) arrested droves of Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(ISIS) fighters and their families when they overran ISIS's last stronghold in Syria in March 2019. Many of these people were taken to al-Hol, which is now home to around 56,000 people — mostly women and kiddies of different nationalities.

Iraqi nationals make up the bulk of the camp's population and are followed in second place by Syrians.

The camp has infamously been branded a breeding ground for terrorism, with Kurdish and Iraqi authorities describing the sprawling camp as a "ticking time bomb," saying the situation in the camp is "very dangerous" with ISIS sleeper cells roaming the camp.

Suspected ISIS cells in the camp have also burned 23 tents since January in the camp, almost doubling last year's total of 13 burned tents, according to the numbers ANHA published which further indicates the escalation of violence there.

The outlet blames the deteriorating situation in the squalid camp on the international community's unwillingness to repatriate its nationals housed in the camp over security concerns.

The body of an Iraqi woman on Tuesday was found by the internal security forces (Asayish) in the camp, which marked the sixth killing in the camp in the month of May. The woman was found decapitated and handcuffed.

Around 450 Iraqi families returned to Iraq from the camp in April, an Iraqi immigration official told Rudaw, despite the country being one of the world's top executioners.

Down Under
This dude straight threw down with a kangaroo for six minutes and it was everything you'd expect
Mods after over a decade I am still unable to post the video, please do
The video looks like the one we had a few days ago, though that one was identified only as having been filmed at some point in Ballina, New South Wales.
[NotTheBee] Yo, keep an eye out for kangaroos if you're ever in The Land Down Under. Cuz they DO NOT mess around.

Just ask this guy in this one-minute segment from his six-minute battle with a roo:

This happened in central Victoria and left local man Cliff Des bruised and battered.

Cliff is 59, and when he heard his dogs barking in the backyard he decided to investigate. Turns out they were barking at this "six-foot mad roo," and when Cliff tried to shoo the roo away, this magnificent fight broke out.

Cliff tried to run away, as you saw in the above video, but inevitably the two got to throwing down.

The 59-year-old pinned the kangaroo after it continued to attack him.

""I thought this guy means business, he was going to mongrel me if I didn't, I took him to the ground.

"It tried to gouge my face. I put my head down so it gouged me on the top of my head. It bit my finger. Then it put its back claw through my leg, about an inch-and-a-half through my back leg, shredded my pants down to the cuff."

Des then tried to run away again and it chased him around his car, with the ordeal lasting six minutes and 22 seconds."

A great sport, Des says he's happy the attack happened to him instead of one of the elderly residents or even one of the kids who are commonly seen in the area. He also said this, which just proves how good of a guy he is.

However, Des said he held no resentment towards kangaroos after the encounter, saying humans were on kangaroos' land.

"We built our roads over theirs. They're a beautiful animal.

"What I can take from the whole scenario is just don't go near them.

"They can snap...we don't know how they think."

Afghanistan
Baghlan Officials Order Farmers to Pay Tithes, Zakat
[TOLO] Tithing, in the case of agriculture, means giving 10 percent of your yield.
Just like The Big Guy
Baghlan's Department of Agriculture and Irrigation recently issued 20,000 collection bills to the province's farmers in order to collect tithes and zakat.

According to department officials, farmers are obligated to pay fifty percent of their tithes and zakat to this department based on the distributed documents..

"We collect half a tithe. If someone harvests 700kg wheat, 70kg is the tithe. We take half of it, that is 35 kg," said Nematullah, head of the Agriculture and Irrigation Department of Baghlan province.

Tithing, in the case of agriculture, means giving 10 percent of your yield.

However, in reaction to the Department of Agriculture's decision, farmers in Baghlan province said that the drought in recent years have caused them enormous losses, making it difficult for them to pay significant tithes and zakat.

"We are the farmers who work hard. It is too difficult for us (the poor people) to pay 50 percent of our yield to the Islamic Emirate, it is very difficult for poor people," said Zekrullah, a farmer.

"The farmers are the assets of the country. If farmers are provided with the opportunity to grow, they will also benefit other people," said Habibullah, another farmer.

These concerns arise as figures from the Baghlan directorate of Agriculture and Irrigation show that the Taliban collected up to 89 million Afghanis
...that’s US$ 998,290...
in tithes and zakat from those areas under its control areas.
