Justice Roberts comes through again for the left on census citizenship decision
[The Hill] The Supreme Court found Thursday that the Trump administration did not give an adequate reason for adding a citizenship question to the 2020 census, blocking the question for at least the time being.

The move is a surprise win for advocates who opposed the question's addition, arguing it will lead to an inaccurate population count. The administration had argued the question was needed to enforce the Voting Rights Act (VRA).
"Surprise" to some possibly.
Those challenging the question said that asking about citizenship would cause non-citizens or immigrants to skip the question. The Trump administration has maintained in court filings that the data would not be accessible to other parts of the federal government, like immigration officials, but opponents argued that the implied perception surrounding asking about citizenship is enough to cause minority groups to not answer the question, or skip out on the census altogether.
Even though three pickup trucks and 4 Honda's are parked there, no one responded from 121 Woodland Place? Send in ICE to investigate.
The justices sent the issue back to the Commerce Department to provide another explanation.

Chief Justice John Roberts joined with the court's liberal wing in delivering the court's opinion.

Roberts wrote that "the decision to reinstate a citizenship question cannot be adequately explained in terms of DOJ's [the Department of Justice's] request for improved citizenship data to better enforce the VRA."

"Several points, considered together, reveal a significant mismatch between the decision [Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross] made and the rationale he provided."

#1  Roberts wrote that "the decision to reinstate a citizenship question cannot be adequately explained in terms of DOJ's [the Department of Justice's] request for improved citizenship data to better enforce the VRA."

No one else has a clue, perhaps Justice Roberts could tell us (just off the top of his head) how many non-citizens are residing in the US.

Dispense with the law, red tape and bureaucratic formalities. California and Illinois are hemorrhaging democratic voters. New faces are desperately needed.

#2  More concerned about the legacy of the Roberts Court than the Constitution or the fate of our nation. Conservatives have tried to be “balanced “ and the progs have eroded the core principles of our nation for decades. There is an existential threat to America and it’s the Democrat Party and it’s minions. The question, to use a line from the Untouchables, is what are you prepared to do?

#3  Yes. It's a dangerous time for America. And if America is to come out of it at all, somebody will have to up the dangerous, before things get better again.

#4  Roberts needs to be sent to Gitmo and from there to some nice black site where he can enjoy the fruits of his betrayal of the Constitution. Personally I vote for the boats.

#6  The justices sent the issue back to the Commerce Department to provide another explanation.

So now the commerce secretary will present a more acceptable justification, and continue doing so until the supreme court finds the latest justification acceptable. And in the meantime and afterward, President Trump will continue appointing Constitution-oriented conservative judges at all levels, so that going forward fewer of these kinds of cases will head toward the Supreme Court.

Evolution, not revolution.

#7  Roberts is a "conservative" in the same vein as the eGOP. Globalist, elitist, believing the government has the right to control as much of your life as possible.

The only thing that separates the eGOP from the left is the eGOP believes you should have some private property and enjoy some of the fruits of your labor.

Once this is understood Robert's decisions make perfect sense.

#8  Roberts does fit the mold of Deep State Republican nominee. Better than some, worse than others. Fills a necessary niche in the Court but I wish he was not the Chief Justice. Gorsuch looks like a reasonable replacement of Scalia, Kavenaugh an improvement on Kennedy, and Roberts fairly similar to Rehnquist. Overall the Court seems to be pretty much the same politically as it has been for 30 years. That will change depending on who gets to replace Ginsburg, Thomas and Alito - actuarially the next in line.

Suicide bomber in Tunisia kills at least one, state TV reports
[CNN via 10News] At least one person is dead and several others injured after Tunisia's capital was hit by two suicide bombings Thursday.

The first blast occurred in central Tunis when a bomber targeted a police patrol on the city's main thoroughfare, Charles De Gaulle Avenue, according to an Interior Ministry statement.

A police officer was killed in the bombing, state-run TAP news agency cited the Interior Ministry as saying.

It also injured three civilians and several security personnel, who received "received varying degrees of injuries," the ministry said.

Ten minutes later, a police station in the city was hit by a second bomber.

"One person blew themselves up behind the back door of the police department in El Gorjani neighbourhood," the statement said.

At least four security personnel were injured in the El Gorjani bombing -- two of them seriously, according to Interior Ministry spokesman Sofien Zaak.

It is unclear at this stage who was responsible for the attacks.

An employee at the nearby French Embassy told CNN he saw a police car that appeared to have been damaged by the first blast but gave no further details on the origin of the explosion. He added that he did not see any injured people.

The attack came a day after the fourth anniversary of the Sousse attack , in which gunman went on a rampage on a Tunisian seaside resort, killing 38 people. ISIS claimed responsibility for that attack.

A state of emergency has been in effect for Tunisia since the terror attacks that year.

The Hill's Morning Report - Warren cements front-runner status in first Dem debate
[The Hill] With most of the heavy hitters taking the stage tonight, Wednesday was a big opportunity for Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), the lone front-runner on stage, and she made the most of her chances throughout the two hour affair.

As Jonathan Easley writes from Miami, Warren delivered a strong performance. While she did not lead the pack in speaking time ‐ Sen. Cory Booker (D-N.J.) paced the group -- Warren stayed above the fray as she delivered lines from her stump speech throughout and did not find herself caught up in back-and-forths with any of her fellow Democrats.

Even when other Democrats appeared to disagree with her, they declined to ding her by name, namely Booker and Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.). Additionally, Warren was treated as the true front-runner on stage and was given the first question at the top of the first and second hours. By virtue of her center stage position, she also closed out the debate with her closing statement.

The debate was a culmination of a dream month for the Massachusetts Democrat, who has seen polls propel her to second place, neck-and-neck with Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), who will debate tonight.

Wednesday’s question-and-answer format, which produced only a handful of authentic debate exchanges, set the table for tonight’s marquee matchup featuring front-runner Joe Biden, who is campaigning as a civility Democrat, and Sanders, who says he needs to do a better job of explaining his definition of socialism to voters.

After serving his county for 36 years, this retired army general now wants to serve in the Senate
[Mil Times] Now Bolduc, 57, wants to add U.S. senator to his growing list of accomplishments, announcing his run for Senate on Monday to represent his home state of New Hampshire.

Bolduc, who will run as a Republican, held an event in Concord, New Hampshire, on Monday to formally announce his candidacy to oust Democrat Jeanne Shaheen from her Senate seat.

Republicans view this race as one of their best chances to take a Democratic Senate seat in the 2020 election.

Saying on Twitter that he is "anything but a politician," Bolduc sees a problem in Washington D.C. that he wants to have a hand in rectifying. "I am ticked off by the partisan mindset on display in Washington ‐ a politics-first attitude that is blocking solutions to real-life issues that affect each of us and our families," Bolduc said in a tweet.

Bolduc’s goal is to refocus the leadership in Washington and give back power to the communities being represented in the nations capital. "My approach to politics is completely focused on the crisis of leadership in Washington D.C." Bolduc said.

This mindset led to Bolduc’s campaign motto: "Service above self. People over politics. Always." And the goal to bring "servant leadership, personal responsibility and a dedication to our core values" back to Washington.

Gabbard Wins First Poll as Beto Flops
[Mail - where America gets its news] First poll has Tulsi Gabbard as the shock winner of the first Democratic debate and Beto "The Micksican" O'Rourke as the clear loser.

Drudge Report poll shows Democratic congresswoman from Hawaii winning the debate. Gabbard, an Iraq War veteran, is a Hindu woman born in American Samoa. Gabbard got nearly 40 per cent of people saying that she won the debate.
Maybe more rational than all the others? Speaking of which ...
Elizabeth Warren came in second place while John Delaney came in third.

As of early Thursday morning, more than 70,000 people voted in the poll.

Britain
'Chimney Challenge' at RNAS Yeovilton goes badly for Lt. Brownlee
[Mil Times] A Royal Navy pilot became the permanent poster boy for remedial physical training Sunday when a drinking game went terribly wrong, leaving the too-hefty officer physically lodged in a precarious position for nearly six hours.

Lt. Tommy Brownlee, 26, had just enjoyed the festivities of an annual mess night at Royal Navy Air Station Yeovilton near Somerset, England, when he and a few other brass decided the night was yet young, and a drinking game was in order.

The officers chose a contest known as the Chimney Challenge, an inebriation-produced obstacle course that, if completed, awards the champion an ever-coveted prize of more drinks, according to The Sun.

Believing himself to be Chimney Challenge worthy, Brownlee stepped up in "I am Spartacus" level solidarity with his fellow drunks.

To complete his well-oiled itinerary, Brownlee would have to enter one section of the building’s two-chimney system, shimmy his way up a narrow column toward one of the system’s vents, crawl his way across a roof space to the other chimney, then carefully slide down that column head-first.

"Apparently it’s an annual initiation the officers do where they climb up one chimney and down another into the bar," one source confirmed in a message to the popular British military humor Facebook page, Fill Your Boots UK.

The officer accomplished the first sections of the challenge with the grace of an Olympian gymnast.

Entering the home stretch, an upside-down Brownlee could peer down and see remnants of light from the officers’ mess and hear the joyous cheers of the comrades who would soon celebrate his Herculean feat.

7 Delusional Fantasies Democratic Presidential Candidates Are Trying To Sell America
[The Federalist] In the 1800s, when the American West was being settled, many enterprising souls sold such remedies as Dr. Brown’s Magic Energy Elixir. Of course, the vast majority were worthless. Many were even dangerous.

America is now experiencing a renaissance of shoddy goods‐this time in the marketplace of ideas. Virtually all the 26 candidates vying for the Democratic Party nomination for president are espousing positions no more credible than the snake-oil salesmen of old.

To get a clear sense of the absurdity of some of the claims, several examples are worth highlighting.
Abbreviated
Snake Oil #1: The ’Green New Deal’
Snake Oil #2: ’Medicare for All’
Snake Oil #3: Income Redistribution
Snake Oil #4: Raising the Minimum Wage
Snake Oil #5: The ’Wage Gap’ Fallacy
Snake Oil #6: Reparations
Snake Oil #7: Open-Borders and Amnesty

Finally, there is the subject of illegal immigration. Many of the 26 hopefuls often say that opposing it is "not who we are." Wrong. It is completely legitimate‐actually, responsible and civic-minded‐to demand that immigration be legal. We should be discussing how much legal immigration is good for America, and what preferences and restrictions should be attached. The presentation of widely differing opinions expressed with passion, but civility, is exactly "who we are."

Conversely, defending illegal immigration is irresponsible. Just as it would not make sense to say that the poor should be excused from other laws and requirements, such as having a driver’s license and car insurance, it is not justifiable to overlook the fact that by definition illegal immigrants have broken U.S. law.

Consider this logic from the presidential aspirants: If your parents break the law to get you into college, you should be expelled from school, and they should be indicted, charged, and convicted of a felony and perhaps serve some time in jail. But if your parents break the law to get you into this country, you should be given free education, health care on the taxpayers’ dime, and then you should be given amnesty to stay. How on earth does that logic hold up?

BUYER BEWARE
Each candidate, in the quest for attention, has attempted to put on the biggest show, not unlike the barkers in towns along the old Oregon Trail. "My elixir is better than your potion!" or "Take my elixir along with his potion for even better results!" With the advent of social media and the left-leaning mainstream media, repetition seems to (almost) make any absurdity more credible.

Recall the old inside-the-Beltway adage that something said three times becomes a fact. Well, with social media, the hunger for confirmation bias can get 300,000 iterations of "fake facts" in no time. There is no longer any penalty for deception and hyper-exaggeration.

It may be traditional that in the scrum of politics, candidates make overly optimistic promises that the electorate somewhat discounts. Even so, we would wager that never in the history of this country have so many absurd statements been made, and unrealistic policy prescriptions been advanced.

It remains to be seen whether any semblance of rationality will eventually end the worst lunacy. In the meantime, listening to all the political rhetoric has become more and more like a bitter dose of Dr. Brown’s elixir.

Five dead after golf-course dispute leads to shooting, fire in California
[Golf Digest] An argument that started at a California pitch-and-putt golf course led to five people being killed in a shooting and fire, according to the Santa Maria Times.

Santa Maria residents and police said that a long-standing feud between three men boiled over on Friday at the Casa Grande Mobile Estates golf course, about 140 miles northwest of Los Angeles. After the three men were seen arguing, gunshots were fired. One of the men was shot inside the clubhouse, while another was found dead on the grass nearby.

"These three guys were threatening each other for a long time," Keith Castro said to the Associated Press.
Threat phase now concluded.
Police identified Kurt Backe, 70, and Richard Hansen, 78, as the victims who were fatally shot at the course. The shooter has yet to be identified.

Police believe the suspect returned to his mobile home after the shooting. The gunman’s home then went up in flames after a small explosion, and the fire spread to nearby homes before it could be put out. The situation was made even worse by ammunition exploding from the gunman’s home.

"All throughout the firefighting efforts, ammunition was cooking off," Police Chief Phil Hansen said to the AP.

Home Front: Culture Wars
The Call For Reparations Isn't About Justice, It's About Power
[The Federalist] What do we mean by reparations? Writing recently in the Washington Post, Sheryll Cashin, a law professor at Georgetown University, argues that "reparations should repair what white supremacy still breaks. Atoning for the legacy of chattel slavery is simply not enough."

That is, reparations must be broad enough to encompass the many crimes and injustices perpetrated against black Americans throughout our history, from slavery to Jim Crow to mass incarceration. The effects of these injustices, says Cashin, are "direct and measurable" among slavery’s descendants: wage gaps, educational disparities, homeownership and property values, incarceration rates, health outcomes.

She is of course right. There is no question that black Americans have suffered greatly, not just from the memory of slavery but from its long legacy of rampant discrimination and racist policies.

It was this history that Ta-Nehisi Coates invoked in testimony last week before a House subcommittee considering a bill to create a commission to study reparations. Responding to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s comment that reparations are not a good idea because no one responsible for slavery is alive today, Coates reeled off a list of racial injustices that were perpetrated in McConnell’s lifetime.

Because McConnell was born in 1942, there is plenty of injustice to point to, and Coates, who has built a successful career on elegantly expressing outrage over such injustice, made the most of it:
We grant that Mr. McConnell was not alive for Appomattox. But he was alive for the electrocution of George Stinney. He was alive for the blinding of Isaac Woodard. He was alive to witness kleptocracy in his native Alabama and a regime premised on electoral theft. Majority Leader McConnell cited civil-rights legislation yesterday, as well he should, because he was alive to witness the harassment, jailing, and betrayal of those responsible for that legislation by a government sworn to protect them. He was alive for the redlining of Chicago and the looting of black homeowners of some $4 billion. Victims of that plunder are very much alive today. I am sure they’d love a word with the majority leader.

This is powerful stuff. The history of America, like the history of all the world, is replete with wickedness and injustice, crimes perpetrated by the powerful against the weak. Slavery and racial discrimination are America’s awful inheritance, which cannot be gainsaid.

Gen Z teenagers are leaving sex until later, and it could mean they lead healthier lives
[News24] The teenage years are a time for experimenting and for pushing boundaries ‐ particularly when it comes to intimate relationships. Such experimentation is a natural part of growing up. But there are potential risks, too ‐ particularly if these early experiences aren’t positive ones. That’s why my colleagues and I investigated what kinds of intimate behaviour 14 year olds engage in, and how this insight can help to ensure young people are well prepared for healthy and happy adult relationships.

We know teenagers experiment with intimacy, often moving "up" the scale from hand-holding or kissing to more explicitly sexual activity. But we also know teenage pregnancy numbers have been dropping in recent years. And our new findings suggest that fewer young teenagers are actually having sexual intercourse than previously thought.

Studies have shown that 30% of those born in the 1980s and 1990s had sex before the age of 16. Among those born in the early 1990s, 18% had done so by age 15. But our new evidence, based on those aged 14, born during or just after the year 2000, indicates that there has been a decrease in the most intimate types of sexual behaviours among this latest cohort ‐ Generation Z.

Russia Unveils Drone Disguised As Snowy Owl For Undercover Missions
[Daily Caller] At an annual military exposition in Moscow June 25, Russia unveiled a combat surveillance drone resembling a snowy owl.

The unmanned drone, which is capable of tracking an enemy, is difficult to detect due to its bird-like design and low noise emissions. Weighing eleven pounds, the drone is equipped with a laser that can assist Russian artillery with firing at specific locations. The drone can fly for up to 40 minutes and cover distances of up to twelve miles, the Moscow Times reported.

The biomimetic design aims to replicate the snowy owl, which is native to the region. The drone’s wingspan is slightly larger than the wingspan of a snowy owl, which on average measures five feet. A large portion of the drone’s "face" is taken up by a variety of gadgets that can give away the drone’s identity.

Russian defense minister Sergey Shoygu said the drone should "cultivate a sense of national pride" for young people, the Daily Mail reported.

The drone will likely be part of the heightened Russian military presence in the Arctic.

ICE releases list of accused murderers, rapists protected under state's sanctuary law
[FOX] Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials in the Pacific Northwest are taking the unusual step of criticizing Washington state’s new sanctuary state law and giving detailed examples of the danger they believe it presents to the public.

The office recently issued a press release which lists seven cases in which ICE requested detainers on criminal illegal aliens being held in local jails and those requests were ignored, many with tragic consequences.

WASHINGTON MAN ASSAULTS WOMAN DAYS AFTER BEING RELEASED FROM JAIL FOR RAPING HER LAST YEAR: PROSECUTORS

According to ICE, Rosalio Ramos-Ramos was arrested last January for murder and dismembering his victim. It happened just months after Ramos was released from a Washington jail despite ICE’s request for an immigration detainer and notification of his pending release, neither of which were honored.

ICE also cites the case of Mexican national Martin Gallo-Gallardo, who was in a Clackamas County Oregon jail. The statement said jail officials ignored ICE’s request for an immigration detainer and notification of release. Gallardo was released and within months was re-arrested, this time for allegedly murdering his wife.

The most recent case involves Francisco Carranza-Ramirez, who was also in the U.S. illegally. He was convicted of raping a wheelchair-bound Seattle woman twice. He was sentenced to time served and released, under the judge’s order that he self-deport back to Mexico. King County Sheriff’s officials say he eventually did return to Mexico, but not before assaulting his victim a third time.

The death is another devastating blow for the country's crumbing reputation as a tourist paradise, after Delta Air Lines announced it would allow passengers to re-book or cancel their flights to the Dominican Republic without charge.

It was in the Scottish/English Borderlands that the Strathclyde-Briton people first used the ancient name Barr. It is generally thought to have been a habitational name, taken on from any of various place names in southwestern Scotland, in particular in Ayrshire and Renfrewshire. Ex-USC gynecologist charged in sex assaults of 16 patients
LOS ANGELES (AP) ‐ The former longtime gynecologist at the University of Southern California was charged Wednesday with sexually assaulting 16 women at the student health center, the first criminal counts in a case that already has seen USC offer to pay $215 million to settle potentially thousands of claims.

Dr. George Tyndall, 72, worked at USC for nearly three decades, and news of his arrest on 29 felony charges that could send him to prison for 53 years was welcomed by women who accuse him of misconduct and lawyers representing them.

Some, however, criticized the delay in filing charges after allegations against the doctor first surfaced in May 2018.

Authorities said Wednesday the investigation is continuing and more charges could follow.

"It was time to seek justice," Los Angeles County District Attorney Jackie Lacey said at a news conference.

Tim Ryan: The Democratic Party Has a 'Perception Problem' as 'Coastal, Elitist'
[PJ] In the first 2020 Democratic presidential debate, Rep. Tim Ryan (D-Ohio) slammed his party for being out of touch with Midwesterners and working people.

"We have a perception problem in the Democrat Party," Ryan admitted. "We have got to change the center of gravity from being coastal, elitist and Ivy League to a party that is on the side of workers. If we don't focus on workers, none of this change will happen."

He insisted that Democrats will not win unless they "address that fundamental problem."

Ryan is correct, but that "perception problem" is rooted in the Democratic Party's increasing radicalism on issues such as abortion, climate change, intersectionality, and more.

Hillary Clinton lost the 2016 election arguably for this exact reason, and Democrats are not fixing it.

Bingo. However, it’s not just about being on the side of the workers. That sounds so Communist. By saying that, you need be on the side of the workers, already sets up a schism between the Donks and others (in this case the workers). Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Widespread internet outage reported in Iran
Testing? A useful graph and table at the link for those who understand such things.
[Jpost] A widespread internet outage in Iran
...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979. The nation is today noted for spontaneously taking over other countries' embassies, maintaining whorehouses run by clergymen, involvement in international drug trafficking, and financing sock puppet militias to extend the regime's influence. The word Iran is a cognate form of Aryan, the abbreviation IRGC is a cognate form of Stürmabteilung (or SA), the term Supreme Guide is a cognate form of either Shah or Führer or maybe both, and they hate Jews Zionists Jews. Their economy is based on the production of oil and vitriol...
was reported by NetBlocks on Wednesday night. International connectivity registered as low as 65% of normal levels during the night.

Many of Iran's internet providers were affected by the outage, according to NetBlocks, a non-governmental organization that monitors cybersecurity and internet governance.

The organization reported that data available indicates a purposeful or accidental cut in international connectivity. It was not clear whether the disruption is part of Iran's plans to move to an internal intranet system or whether it was caused by a cyber-attack. The outage may also be a result of sanctions by foreign companies that supply access to Iranian networks.

NetBlocks maps the entire IP address space of individual countries in real times. This shows internet outages corresponding to connectivity disruptions.

"Purposeful internet outages generally have a distinct network pattern," explained NetBlocks on their website. This pattern is used "to determine and attribute the root cause of an outage."

As of around 2 a.m. Israel time, the internet outage showed some signs of recovery with real-time network measurements showing overall accessibility at around 85%.

Iran has been working on an intranet system, known as Iran's national information network (ININ), since 2010, according to Radio Farda.

"All domestic activities, services, applications [and] various types of contents... are included in the national internet," said Communications and Information Technology Minister Mahmoud Vaezi at the inauguration event in 2016, according to the BBC.

Iran already has blocked access to tens of thousands of sites and services including Twitter and Facebook, although many users use virtual private networks (VPNs) and proxy sites to bypass the filter.

The intranet is intended to promote Islamic content and raise digital awareness among the public.

Last February, Iran announced that they were going to conduct an "internet disconnection drill," according to Radio Farda, but the plan was delayed.

"The National Internet Project could pave the way for further isolation, surveillance and information retention," stated a report by the British human rights
...not to be confused with individual rights, mind you...
campaign group Article 19, according to the BBC. "[It] risks severely isolating the Iranian people from the rest of the online world, limiting access to information and constraining attempts at collective action and public protest."

Iran's Supreme Leader says US offer for negotiations is a 'deception'
[DAWN] The offer by the United States to negotiate with Iran
...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. Their economy is based on the production of oil and vitriol...
is a deception, Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said on Wednesday in remarks published on his official website.

US President Donald Trump
...Oh, noze! Not him!...

"Negotiations are a deception for what they want. A weapon is in your hands and they don't dare come close. They say drop the weapon so I can do whatever I want with you. This is negotiation," Khamenei said.

Dutch lawmaker appeals conviction for inciting discrimination
[DAWN] Dutch anti-Islam politician Geert Wilders on Tuesday called for either an acquittal or a procedural delay in his appeal against a 2016 conviction for inciting discrimination against Moroccans.

"This trial has every appearance of being politically motivated. Stop the witch hunt!" he told judges at the Hague Appeals Court.

Wilders was convicted over a 2014 incident at a campaign rally when he asked supporters whether they wanted more or fewer Moroccans in the Netherlands. When they chanted "Fewer! Fewer! Fewer!" he replied: "We’re going to take care of that." He was prosecuted after Dutch authorities received dozens of complaints from individuals and Moslem groups.

"I only asked a question that half of the Netherlands would answer with ’Yes’," Wilders told the appeals court.

The judges at his original trial found that Wilders’ remarks were insulting to Dutch Moroccans and that his right to freedom of speech did not outweigh their right to be spared incitement to discrimination. But Wilders was not fined or locked away

DOJ rejects bid by Jeffery Epstein's 'underage victims' to dismiss plea deal and refuses to apologize for agreeing to 13-month sentence for man who allegedly sexually abused over 40 minors
[MAIL] Federal prosecutors are once again making sure that Jeffrey Epstein avoids jail time for allegedly sexually abusing dozens of underage girls in southern Florida.

The Department of Justice is siding with the convicted pedophile, now 66, in response to a motion filed by two of his alleged victims to toss out the sweetheart plea deal that saw him serve just 13 months in custody rather than life in prison.

The women, named as Jane Doe 1 and Jane Doe 2 in court documents, said in their initial filing that the non-prosecution agreement in the case should be voided because they were not consulted about or even informed of the details of the deal Epstein worked out with prosecutors.

The women who filed the motion were 13 and 14 at the time of the abuse, while the prosecutor was Alex Acosta, who is now President Trump's Secretary of Labor.

That violation of the Crime Victims' Rights Act is not enough to void Epstein's deal though, argued Byung J. Pak, the US Attorney for the Northern District of Georgia.

He wrote later in his filing that the underprivileged victims, who were recruited from middle and high schools, are not even owed an apology from the Department of Justice.

Crime & punishment
[DAWN] TORTURE by law-enforcement agencies is so endemic it is often accepted as ’police culture’. We only have to look at the overwhelming news reports and academic research for proof. And the reason it is so endemic is that there is little to no penalty or accountability against LEAs, and hence no effort to change this culture.

Today is International Day in Support of Victims of Torture. But Pak victims have little hope of receiving any form of support from the judiciary, executive or legislation.

The case of Sajid Masih is a telling ‐ and appalling ‐ example of broken governance. Sajid’s cousin was accused of blasphemy
...the act of insulting or showing contempt or lack of reverence to a deity, or sacred objects, or toward something considered sacred or inviolable. Some religions consider it to be a crime. In Pakistain you can commit blasphemy by looking cross-eyed at a Koran...
, due to which he was also roped in. They were both arrested and interrogated by FIA officials, during which they were reportedly beaten and abused. By his account, Sajid was allegedly ordered to rape his cousin. He refused. The officials shouted at him to do as he was told. He couldn’t, and jumped out of a fourth-floor window to escape the humiliation. The fall could have killed him. But he survived, albeit with multiple injuries, to tell his harrowing story.

#1  So the problem is the laws in Pak, not torture itself. Blasphemy is not a 21st century crime, for example. Nor is a clueless cleric's opinion considered expert witness in modern courts. But that's the 'Stain for you.

Torture is the fastest, easiest way to get shit done, period. It's also reforming and educational. The only question for morality is , who's allowed to do it and for what.
Posted by: Dron66046 || 06/27/2019 10:05 Comments || Top||

#2  The problem is that so often torture is applied by the ethically impaired to those not guilty of the crime of which they are accused, resulting in faulty information and false confessions just to make the pain stop. OldSpook used to talk about tryptophan deprivation, although that takes longer. Somewhere around 2010 in the archives, I think.
Posted by: trailing wife || 06/27/2019 15:58 Comments || Top||

#3  Tryptophan deprivation. Probably to deny production of serotonin. Induce hunger and anxiety ? But it should also lead to bouts of intense rage and impairment of the limbic system, also memory.

Naah... good ol' acid, sulfazine and pain are fine. Besides it keeps the troops with a bad streak occupied and functional. Indian intelligence was taught this madness by the ruskies, if you can believe it. With the Israelis we developed more nuanced approaches, including contorting postures for long periods, ear-splitting music, temperatures - things that leave no trace for those pesky UN types. Later we developed our own techniques, featuring MDA, induced hypnagogia, suggestion, etc. Although the latter is the opposite of torture. It's more of a kind of 'assisted conversion'.

I agree in that it's a question of who's doing it and why. Ruling it out is good, but every case deserves a subjective consideration. As a first policy of course it's bad. If we weren't in the middle of a war, and if there were fewer assholes to process... we'd just be better humans.

EU's ESA changes course to copy reusable SpaceX tech.
[ARS TECHNICA] This month, the European Commission revealed a new three-year project to develop technologies needed for two proposed reusable launch vehicles. The commission provided €3 million to the German space agency, DLR, and five companies to, in the words of a news release about the project, "tackle the shortcoming of know-how in reusable rockets in Europe."

This new RETALT project's goals are pretty explicit about copying the retro-propulsive engine firing technique used by SpaceX to land its Falcon 9 rocket first stages back on land and on autonomous drone ships. The Falcon 9 rocket's ability to land and fly again is "currently dominating the global market," the European project states. "We are convinced that it is absolutely necessary to investigate Retro Propulsion Assisted Landing Technologies to make re-usability state-of-the-art in Europe."

Abbas adviser welcomes Oman’s decision to open mission to the Palestinians
[IsraelTimes] Majdi al-Khaldi says Muscat operated diplomatic office in West Bank in 1990s but later closed it; four Arab states currently maintain representation in Ramallah.

Paleostinian Authority President the ineffectual Mahmoud Abbas
... a graduate of the prestigious unaccredited Patrice Lumumba University in Moscow with a doctorate in Holocaust Denial...
’s diplomatic affairs adviser has welcomed Oman’s decision to open a diplomatic mission in Ramallah.

The Omani Foreign Ministry announced in a statement on its Twitter account on Wednesday that Muscat decided to open "a new diplomatic mission in the State of Paleostine at the level of of an embassy."

The statement came on the second day of the US-led conference focused on the Paleostinian economy in the Bahraini capital Manama. The Paleostinians have fiercely opposed the summit, arguing that discussions about statehood should precede those regarding the Paleostinian economy.

"We appreciate and welcome the decision of the Sultanate of Oman to open an office here," Majdi al-Khaldi told The Times of Israel in a phone call.

Four Arab states currently have diplomatic offices in Ramallah: Jordan, Egypt, Tunisia and Morocco.

Jordan and Egypt are the sole two Arab states to maintain formal diplomatic ties and peace treaties with Israel.

Khaldi said that Oman operated a diplomatic office in the West Bank in the 1990s but later closed it.

In its statement, the Omani Foreign Ministry also said the decision to open the diplomatic mission came "in continuation of the Sultanate’s supportive approach to the brotherly Paleostinian people."

It also said that a delegation from the Omani Foreign Ministry would go to Ramallah to carry out the required procedures to open a diplomatic mission.

The Paleostinians operate an embassy in Muscat.

Asked whether Oman coordinated its decision to open a diplomatic office to the Paleostinians with Israel, the Israeli Foreign Ministry said it was not aware of the matter.

Even though Oman does not have formal diplomatic relations with Israel, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu visited Muscat in October 2018 and met Omani Sultan Qaboos bin Said there.

Before Netanyahu’s trip last year, no Israeli premier had been known to visit Oman in more than two decades.

Thailand defends orders to phone users in Muslim-majority south to submit photos
[AlAhram] The Moslem-majority south and rights groups have long accused the Thai state of heavy-handed sweeps of the Malay-Moslem populations, raising tensions in communities who feel targeted in their homes.

An order for mobile phone users in Thailand's restive south to submit a photo of themselves for facial recognition purposes is causing uproar from opponents who see it as further curtailing the rights of the Moslem-majority population.

But an army front man on Wednesday defended the move, saying the facial identification scheme is needed to root out forces of Evil deploying mobile phone-detonated home-made bombs.

Thailand's three southernmost states -- Yala, Pattani, and Narathiwat -- have since 2004 been rife with conflict between Malay-Moslem rebels and the Buddhist-majority Thai state, which annexed the region around a century ago.

The tit-for-tat violence has claimed around 7,000 lives, mostly civilians of both faiths, and security forces have detained individuals suspected of being separatist rebels without warrants in the past.

Now telecoms companies are requiring all users of the region's 1.5 million mobile numbers to submit a photo of themselves for facial recognition purposes following orders from the army -- a move that is drawing anger from rights groups as the deadline to register photos nears.

A military front man defended the move on Wednesday, saying it was necessary to identify perpetrators who use mobile phone reception to set off home-made bombs.

"In cases where the attacker uses a SIM card to detonate a bomb, we can trace the perpetrator," said Colonel Watcharakorn Onngon, deputy southern army front man.

Registration ends on October 31, and anyone who fails to submit their photo in the three southern provinces and four districts in neighbouring Songkhla province will have their mobile reception cut off, he said.

Army leader-turned-premier Prayut Chan-O-Cha on Tuesday also said the scheme provides "evidence" about who the real owner of each SIM card is.

While the rest of Thailand is not subjected to the same requirement of submitting photos, Watcharakorn said people with unregistered SIMs travelling to the three provinces will have no cell access.

Islamic State recruiter known as 'Umm Nutella' sentenced to four years
That was fast. Only yesterday we had the report that papers were filed with her guilty plea.
[Jpost] A U.S. judge on Wednesday sentenced an Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
recruiter known as "Umm Nutella" to four years in prison, far less than federal prosecutors had sought, even though she double-crossed them after agreeing to cooperate.

Under the sentence imposed by U.S. District Judge Jack Weinstein, New Jersey-born Sinmyah Amera Ceasar, 24, also will get credit for the 29 months she has already served, a front man for the Brooklyn U.S. Attorney's Office said.

U.S. Attorney Richard Donoghue had asked the judge to send her to prison for 30 to 50 years, consistent with federal sentencing guidelines for the two federal charges to which Ceasar pleaded guilty.

Defense attorneys urged leniency for Ceasar, citing a troubled childhood of sexual abuse and being handed off among foster families, the New York Daily News reported on Tuesday.

In handing down the sentence on the third day of a hearing in the 2-1/2-year-long case that prosecutors had kept under wraps until Monday, Weinstein said sentencing guidelines were too harsh for this case, local media reported.

"It's apparent that this young woman is in need of serious educational, medical, and economic support," the New York Post quoted the judge as saying. "This sentence will also save her as a human being."

Ceasar, who was arrested in November 2016 at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York as she tried to leave the United States, pleaded guilty the following February to conspiracy to provide material support to a foreign terrorist organization, according to a June 17 sentencing memo.

In the memo, Donoghue called her a "committed recruiter and self-described 'assistant'" to the Islamic State.

She confessed to using Facebook and other platforms to connect people with Islamic State members who would help them travel to territory controlled by the group and expressed her own desire to go there "and die as a martyr," Donoghue said.

At the time of her plea, Ceasar agreed to cooperate with the government. But while she was free on bail between April and July 2018, prosecutors said she reconnected with some of the very people she had identified as Islamic State members.

Donoghue said Ceasar also resumed using her code name "Umm Nutella" in her communications, which she sought to cover up.

"The name 'Umm Nutella' was how the defendant identified herself to the other ISIS operatives and supporters with whom she communicated," he said.

Faced with new charges, Ceasar pleaded guilty on March 7 to obstruction of an official proceeding, prosecutors said.

#1  young woman is in need of serious educational, medical, and economic support

I don't understand. When she wanted to go and die in a shithole, and paying for her trip herself, the government goes and arrests her from the airport. It then gives her (an obese, nobody, youtube/twitter jihadist) more traction with illegal elements by sentencing her to a fed prison where she will recruit more like herself. After 4 years, she returns to her life a lot wiser, with friends inside and abroad, and a first hand experience of a useless legal establishment.

Libya's Tripoli-based HoR denounces Salame's meetings with Haftar, says he's biased
[Libya Observer] Members of the Libyan House of Representatives (HoR) convening in Tripoli

denounced Tuesday the meeting of UNSMIL's Head Ghassan Salame with "outlaw Khalifa Haftar
...Self-proclaimed Field Marshal, served in the Libyan army under Muammar Qadaffy, and took part in the coup that brought Qadaffy to power in 1969. He became a prisoner of war in Chad in 1987. While held prisoner, he and his fellow officers formed a group hoping to overthrow Qadaffy, so it's kind of hard to describe him as a Qadaffy holdover. He was released around 1990 in a deal with the United States government and spent nearly two decades in the United States, gaining US citizenship. In 1993, while living in the United States, he was convicted in absentia of crimes against the Jamahiriya and sentenced to death. Haftar held a senior position in the anti-Qadaffy forces in the 2011 Libyan Civil War. In 2014 he was commander of the Libyan Army when the General National Congress (GNC) refused to give up power in accordance with its term of office. Haftar launched a campaign against the GNC and its Islamic fundamentalist allies. His campaign allowed elections to take place to replace the GNC, but then developed into a civil war. Guess you can't win them all...
They said in a letter to the Secretary General of the UN that Haftar has no authority or official occupation as the HoR scrapped General Commander of Army post that was given to him by Tobruk-based HoR in 2015.

"Salame's visit to Haftar who hindered the UN-led political process gives him and his attack on Tripoli some sort of legitimacy." The letter reads.

It adds that the HoR members were hoping Salame would condemn the attack on Tripoli and other cities in southern Libya with all the aftermath and destruction those attacks had caused, including in Benghazi and Derna.

The HoR members also said that Salame has become part of the problem, saying Haftar can never be part of the political process again.

Salame visited Haftar in al-Rajma days ago and discussed with him the ongoing fighting and the ways to end it.

He also met with HoR Speaker in Tobruk Aqila Saleh and, according to MPs in there, he told Saleh that UNSMIL doesn't recognize Tripoli-based HoR.

In Tripoli and other western region cities, many people have been calling for sacking and replacing Salame saying he is biased to Haftar and is reluctant to condemn the Tripoli offensive by Haftar's forces despite the hundreds of casualties and thousands of IDPs it caused.

Venezuela government says it has thwarted attempted ‘coup’
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Venezuela’s socialist government said on Wednesday it has derailed an attempted coup, claiming the United States, Colombia and Chile colluded in a plot by officers to assassinate President Nicolás Maduro
...Commie el presidente para la vida of Venezuela, successor to Hugo Chavez. Nick is his country's attempt at producing a Muammar Qadaffy, except that even though his country's sitting on an enormous puddle of oil, he can't manage to get it out of the ground...
and install a general in his place, a minister said.

Communications Minister Jorge Rodriguez said the plan involved both active and retired army officers and was to have been executed between Sunday and Monday this past weekend.

He accused Colombia’s right-wing President Ivan Duque of "planning coups, liquidations of the president" as well as implicating Chile’s conservative President Sebastian Pinera and US National Security Advisor John Bolton in the plot.

Rodriguez accused Maduro’s former intelligence chief Cristopher Figuera ‐ who has defected to the United States ‐ of seeking "hundreds of thousands of dollars" for supporting a failed military uprising against the president in April.

Figuera "turned out to be a mercenary" the minister said in Caracas.

Venezuelan authorities said earlier this month that 17 people had been charged with attempting a coup on April 30, during opposition leader Juan Guaidó
...Venezuelan politician, a member of the social-democratic Popular Will party, and serves as a federal deputy to the National Assembly representing the state of Vargas. In 2019 he was appointed by the Popular Will party to become the president of the National Assembly, after which he declared he was acting president of the country, challenging Nicolás Maduro's presidency and starting the 2019 Venezuelan presidential crisis....
’s failed attempt
Curses! Foiled again!
to inspire an uprising, when he called on the armed forces to rise up against Maduro.

The effort failed to shift the military’s allegiance and Guaido was backed by only around 30 military personnel. The revolt petered out after two days of deadly festivities between protesters and security forces.

Guaido is recognized as interim president by more than 50 countries, including the United States, which has imposed a series of crippling sanctions on Maduro’s government.

Russia, Maduro’s staunchest foreign backer along with Cuba and China, announced earlier Wednesday it was withdrawing military "technicians" which it deployed in Venezuela in a show of support three months ago.

Ilhan Omar REFUSES to answer questions about her brother-husband

Keean Bexte of TheRebel.media reports: Today, Democratic Congresswoman Ilhan Omar refused to answer one simple question: did she marry her brother Ahmed Nur Said Elmi?

Best line, Ilhan: "I'm trying to find my phone at the moment".

Keean: "So that you can go on Instagram and talk to your brother??"

Rebel Media reports that documents pulled from the Minneapolis Courthouse indicate that while Omar was allegedly married to her brother, she was also living with another husband in Minneapolis.

Palestinian murdered German for being 'rich Jew’ who 'destroyed my country'
[Jpost] A Paleostinian man murdered a German real estate investor in November because he was a "rich Jew" who destroyed his country, according to shocking testimony during a Wednesday court appearance in the southern state of Baden-Wurttemberg.

A witness said the 31-year-old Paleostinian man named Iyad B. said the real estate investor and 57-year-old victim Michael Riecher is a " rich Jew" who "annihilated my country," according to a report in the local newspaper Schwarzwälder Bote. The witness said the Paleostinian’s hatred in connection with the apparent reference to Jews destroying his country is related to the motive for murder. It is unclear what Iyad means by "my country."

It is also unclear from the German media reports if Riecher was Jewish although he played a critical role in the renovation of a local sanctuary room of the synagogue, according to a media report. Riecher worked with Syrian refugees with respect to housing placement.

Iyad’s accomplice, the 28-year-old Syrian Mohammed Omran Albakr, allegedly devised the plan to attack and rob Riecher. Albakr eventually moved into Riecher's parent’s house with his wife.

The testimony by the witness, who works as a barber, took place in the court house in the town of in Horb am Neckar. The Schwarzwälder Bote reported that the witness used the alias Hesham A. and said "Iyad did not say anything about plans" to murder Riecher. The witness said that Iyad did not comment on the fact that Riecher could be killed as part of the attack. Riecher was in frail health due to a lung condition. The accused perpetrators strangled the victim.

Iyad’s last name was not listed in German media reports due to privacy protection. Mohammed Omran Albakr was previously listed in media reports because after his arrival to Germany in 2015, Albakr was praised as a model refugee in a 2016 Schwarzwälder Bote article.

Albakr lived on the Syrian side of the Golan Heights. According to Schwarzwälder Bote, he studied mathematics and refused to serve in the Syrian army. As a result, the Syrian regime of president Bashir al-Assad imprisoned him. After he was released from prison, Albakr migrated to The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...Qatar's colony in Asia Minor...
and eventually to Germany.

The Free Democratic Party MP Michael Theurer said in 2014: "If Michael Riecher had not taken over the financial risk of the property developer, we would not be sitting in a rock-solid renovated sanctuary today."

The murder of Riecher comes amid growing antisemitism in Germany. Michael Blume, the commissioner to combat antisemitism in the state Baden-Wurttemberg, has faced a wave of criticism for drawing an apparent parallel between the Nazi mass murderer Adolf Eichmann and a German Jewish activist who fights the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions campaign against Israel.

The Simon Wiesenthal Center urged Blume to resign because of his comparison in March. Henryk M. Broder, Germany’s leading authority on contemporary post-Holocaust antisemitism, wrote that Blume has "no idea about antisemitism." Blume refuses to urge a partially-owned state bank to close its account with the pro-BDS Paleostine Committee Stuttgart. The Bundestag declared BDS antisemitic in May.

Erdogan says NATO countries shouldn’t sanction each other amid row over S400
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] President His Enormity, Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First
...Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him. It's a sin, a shame, and a felony to insult the president of Turkey. In Anatolia did Recep Bey a stately Presidential Palace decree, that has 1100 rooms. That's 968 more than in the White House, 400 more than in Versailles, and 325 more than Buckingham Palace, so you know who's really more important...
on Wednesday said NATO
...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. It's headquartered in Belgium. That sez it all....
countries should not place sanctions each other as the tensions with Washington mount over Ankara’s deal with Russia to buy S-400 missile defense system.

"Do not forget that The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the occupiers of Greek Asia Minor...
is a NATO country. America is a NATO country. I am not aware if NATO countries place sanctions on one another," Erdogan told news hounds at an Ankara airport, before leaving for Japan where he will attend the G20 summit.

Erdogan is due to meet Saturday with US President Donald Trump
...Oh, noze! Not him!...
on the margins of the summit in Osaka. Turkey’s deal with Russia will be one of the issues on the table.

The US has given Turkey a deadline of July 31 to drop the purchase of the S-400 system, or face sanctions and removal from the United States’ F-35 fighter jet program.

Erdogan is hoping to use good relations with Trump in order to defuse tensions when they meet this weekend.

He said Turkey’s relations with Washington was based upon "strategic partnership" and added he did "not get such an impression from Mr. Trump" that sanctions would be placed unless Ankara dropped the Russia deal.

The Ottoman Turkish leader also insisted that the agreement with Moscow was a "done deal" and that the system was "in the process of delivery."

Erdogan this week said his country would take delivery of Russia’s S-400 missile defense system in July.

New Pentagon chief confronts Turkey on NATO debut
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] President Donald Trump
...the Nailer of NAFTA...
’s pick for Pentagon chief plunged straight into business as he made his NATO
...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. It's headquartered in Belgium. That sez it all....
debut Wednesday, confronting The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...Qatar's colony in Asia Minor...
over its purchase of Russian air defense missiles.

Mark Esper, nominated as defense secretary last Friday, reiterated Washington’s warning that buying the Russian S-400 missile system would mean it would be booted out of the US F-35 jet fighter program.

Making his first appearance at a meeting of NATO defense ministers, Esper had what a Pentagon front man described as a "frank and transparent" meeting with his Ottoman Turkish counterpart Hulusi Akar.

The US and NATO are alarmed that Turkey may acquire the missiles, which are designed to shoot down planes like the F-35, America’s new generation multi-role stealth fighter that Turkey also wants to buy.

But Turkey has so far rebuffed all efforts to persuade it to drop the deal, and President His Enormity, Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First
...Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him. It's a sin, a shame, and a felony to insult the president of Turkey. insisted on Tuesday that delivery would take place in July.

"The two leaders had a frank and transparent discussion where Secretary Esper reiterated that Turkey’s purchase of the Russian S-400 air and missile defense system is incompatible with the F-35 program and that Turkey will not be permitted to have both systems," Pentagon front man Jonathan Hoffman said.

Erdogan has said he will use his good relations with Trump to defuse tensions when they meet on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Osaka, Japan later this week.

But the US has set a July 31 deadline for Ankara to drop the purchase or face sanctions and expulsion from the F-35 program.

This would mean an end to Turkey’s current plans to buy 100 F-35s and the loss of lucrative contracts to build parts of the jet.

Esper, who is yet to be confirmed in the post by the Senate, is the third man to lead the Pentagon in six months after Jim Mattis and Patrick Shanahan.

[The Drive] Navy's Newest Littoral Combat Ship Damaged After Smacking Into A Moored Ship In Canada!

The future USS Billings is now tied up in Montreal while the Navy assesses the full extent of the damage and investigates what happened.

The incident reportedly occurred on June 24, 2019, after two tugs assisting the future Billings in Montreal harbor cast off their two lines. For still unknown reasons, the LCS lost control and smacked up against the side of the Rosaire Desgagnes, a bulk cargo ship, which was moored nearby, according to First Coast News. A spokesperson for Naval Surface Force Atlantic told The Maritime Executive that the Navy ship's starboard bridge wing had been damaged, as a result, but also that a full damage assessment is underway.

Turkish airstrikes kill one civilian, wound another in northern Erbil
[Rudaw] At least one civilian was killed and another "seriously injured" in a Ottoman Turkish Arclight airstrike
...KABOOM!...
in Bradost, Erbil province on Wednesday, local officials confirmed.

"At 6pm a Ottoman Turkish jet was initially spotted overhead in the village of Zini Khalil in Bradost and it started densely bombing at 7pm," Ahmed Khalil, the village chieftain, told Rudaw.

Bradost is located 70 kilometers northeast of Erbil city.

The two brothers were travelling in a vehicle when they were caught in the airstrike, Khalil said. Mansour Nafih, 25, was killed, and Pashew Nafih, 20, was maimed.

Adnan Ghafour, the physician on duty at the Ashti Hospital in Bradost said Nafih had sustained "serious injures".

"After treating him with emergency first aid, we refereed him to West Erbil Emergency Hospital," Ghafour told Rudaw English.

The Ottoman Turkish defense ministry confirmed late on Wednesday that its warplanes had targeted Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) positions in Zap and Khakurk, "neutralizing two terrorists".

In a statement late on Wednesday, the Peoples’ Defense Forces (HPG), the armed wing of the PKK, said the bombardment took place at 7.30 pm local time, but added: "Nothing happened to our forces."

Rudaw cannot independently verify the claims.

According to Roj News, which is closely aligned with the PKK, the two men were tourists from the Choman area.

Wednesday’s airstrikes come just three days after The Sick Man of Europe Turkey

Netanyahu: Israel used cyber intel. to thwart around 50 ISIS terror attacks around the world
[Jpost] Israel has used its cyber intelligence capabilities to thwart around 50 ISIS terrorist attacks in dozens of countries worldwide, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said at the Cyber Week conference at Tel Aviv University on Wednesday.

While Israel previously disclosed that it had provided the intelligence to thwart an ISIS plot to bomb a United Arab Emirates Etihad Airways flight from Sydney to Abu Dhabi, Netanyahu revealed that the intelligence that broke the case was obtained through cyber tools.

He said that while he could not give specifics, the audience could "multiply by about 50" the Sydney airline terrorist plot, and that would be the number of terrorist plots worldwide (mostly by ISIS) that Israel has helped to prevent thanks to its cyber intelligence powers.

"The plane from Sydney to Abu Dhabi was not going to be hijacked but went kaboom! in midair," he said. "We used our cyber tools to discover that ISIS was going to do this, and so we alerted the Australian police and they stopped it before it could happen.

"This particular incident I can talk about because it was leaked to the media," Netanyahu said. "If you multiply that by 50, it will give you an idea of the contribution that Israel has made to prevent major terrorist operations, especially from ISIS, in dozens of countries. Most of those cases were foiled because of our cybersecurity operations."

The prime minister said that the world is in the midst of a cyber revolution due to new trends in big data, artificial intelligence and connectivity.

He said that Israel is thriving by being at the forefront of applying these areas to industries, from the auto industry to health to agriculture.

Netanyahu said Israel was too small to compete in the car industry in the past, but as cars become mostly computers, it is penetrating the industry.

He credited much of Israel’s punching above its geographic size to the country’s primacy in cyberdefense, which in turn stems from Israel’s unique investment in its Military Intelligence, Mossad and Shin Bet sectors.

Moreover, he said cooperation with the US is unbelievable and better than ever before.

The prime minister and his national security adviser, Meir Ben-Shabbat, also met with US Deputy Secretary of Energy Dan Brouillette to discuss the Iranian threat and cybersecurity cooperation.

Following Netanyahu, Israel National Cyber Directorate chief Yigal Unna introduced a new cybersecurity defense system to detect attempts to deface websites called Trackzilla.

Unna said that the new system is staggeringly successful, reducing the number of effective attacks by OpIsrael in April 2019 to 134, as opposed to 1,145 from OpIsrael in April 2018.

OpIsrael is identified with the international anarchic group Anonymous, and with pro-Paleostinian hacker groups, and seeks to hack Israeli Internet sites with the goal "to disconnect Israel from the cyber world." It has been a recurring annual coordinated series of cyberattacks against Israel in the spring in recent years.

Rescue workers among eight killed in Syria air raids
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Two rescuers were among eight civilians killed in Russian and regime Arclight airstrike
...KABOOM!...
s Wednesday on violence-plagued northwest Syria, a war monitor said, in the latest attack against relief workers in the region.

The two civil defense workers, known as the White Helmets, were killed after Russian air strikes hit their ambulance in the town of Khan Sheikhoun in Idlib province, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.

The rescue group said a "double-tap attack" by Russian warplanes had "targeted" rescue workers repeatedly as they were evacuating injured civilians from the town. Five other volunteers were also maimed, the group said.

The latest attack came nearly one week after regime air strikes on an ambulance in the town of Maaret al-Numan killed three rescue workers. "The world continues to fail to protect us and other humanitarian workers," the group said in a statement on social media.

Six other non-combatants were killed Wednesday in a series of regime air strikes on several parts of the Idlib region, which is home to around three million people, the Britannia-based war monitor said.

One more civilian succumbed to wounds sustained days ago during regime air strikes on Khan Sheikhoun, it said. In the north of nearby Hama province, bad boy rocket fire killed one girl on Wednesday, state news agency SANA said.

Sudan’s Mahdi rejects call for mass demos on June 30
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Sudan’s veteran opposition leader Sadiq al-Mahdi rejected on Wednesday a call for nationwide mass demonstrations against the country’s ruling generals on June 30.

The remarks by the head of National Umma Party come as the tension between the generals and leaders from the umbrella protest movement, the Alliance for Freedom and Change, remain high after a deadly crackdown on a protest camp killed dozens of demonstrators.

The June 30 rallies called by the alliance coincide with the 30th anniversary of the coup that had brought now ousted leader Omar al-Bashir
Head of the National Congress Party. He came to power in 1989 when he, as a brigadier in the Sudanese army, led a group of officers in a bloodless military coup that ousted the government of Prime Minister Sadiq al-Mahdi and eventually appointed himself president-for-life. He has fallen out with his Islamic mentor, Hasan al-Turabi, tried to impose shariah on the Christian and animist south, resulting in its secessesion, and attempted to Arabize Darfur by unleashing the barbaric Janjaweed on it. Sudan's potential prosperity has been pissed away in warfare that has left as many as 400,000 people dead and 2.5 million displaced. Omar has been indicted for genocide by the International Criminal Court but nothing is expected to come of it.
to power after toppling the then elected government of Mahdi.

"Our opinion is to avoid escalatory measures from either side," Mahdi, who is part of the protest movement, said at a presser at his party headquarters in Omdurman, the twin city of Khartoum across the Nile.

Mahdi said any escalation prior to receiving the ruling military council’s response to a power transfer plan proposed by Æthiopia would be "premature".

Æthiopia is mediating talks between the generals and protest leaders since previous negotiations collapsed in the wake of the June 3 crackdown on a protest sit-in outside the army headquarters in the capital.

Æthiopia’s proposal calls for forming a new 15-member civilian-majority governing body, which the protest leaders have accepted but the military council has so far dismissed.

On June 3, gunnies in military fatigues stormed the protest camp, shooting and beating demonstrators who had camped there since April 6. More than 100 people were killed on that day, according to medics linked to the protest movement. Officials say 61 people died.

The generals deny they ordered the dispersal, insisting they had authorized only a limited operation to clear a nearby area of drug pushers. Æthiopia and the African Union

Britain
UK Labour readmits Corbyn ally who said party too apologetic on anti-Semitism
[IsraelTimes] Chris Williamson gets off with warning; British Jewish group calls reinstatement into party dogged by countless anti-Semitic scandals an ’utter disgrace’.

A key ally of Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn who was suspended from the British party for sayings it is "too apologetic" over anti-Semitism has been readmitted.

A party ethics panel warned politician Chris Williamson on Wednesday for saying earlier this year that when it comes to Labour’s anti-Semitism problem, its deniers "have backed off too much, we have given too much ground, we have been too apologetic." Labour suspended Williamson in February pending an ethics review.
"Keep it on the down-low, big mouth"
The remark was another twist in a three-year saga over the proliferation of anti-Semitic hate speech in Labour’s ranks and internal splits on whether to address the problem.

Labour is being investigated by the Equality and Human Rights Commission, a government watchdog, for thousands of cases of anti-Semitic hate speech in its ranks since 2015.

Since his election in 2015 to head Labour, Corbyn has fought allegations that his critical attitude toward Israel and alleged tolerance of anti-Semitism have injected Jew-hatred into the heart of the party.

On Tuesday, The Times of London demonstrated how Twitter accounts advocating for Corbyn shared the same backstory presenting the authors as descended from Holocaust survivors.

In 2009, Corbyn called Hamas, the well-beloved offspring of the Moslem Brotherhood, and Hezbollah his friends and said that Hamas is working to achieve peace and justice. In 2013, he defended an anti-Semitic mural. In 2014, he laid flowers on the graves of Paleostinian murderous Moslems who murdered Israeli athletes in Munich in 1972. The following year he said British "Zionists" don’t understand British irony.

Syrian national arrested after strolling across border into Israel
[IsraelTimes] A Syrian national was arrested overnight Tuesday after he crossed the border near Mount Hermon, the army said in a statement Wednesday.

The man reportedly walked a few kilometers through Israeli territory until he was arrested by the Israel Defense Forces close the Mount Hermon ski resort site.

He was found to be unarmed and his motives were not clear.

According to Channel 12 TV news he crossed at a point where there is no border fence.
I know Israel is building fences along all its borders as fast as can be done, but this might be a place to at least put up a few rolls of barbed wire until the civil engineers arrive.
The army said the man appears to suffer from a mental illness
...which does not mean he was not also a jihadi...
and he was handed over to the Shin Bet security service for questioning.

Afghanistan
Khalili Says Islamic Emirate Not Acceptable For Afghans
[ToloNews] Amid optimism by the Afghan government and the United States on a potential peace deal ahead of the upcoming polls in Afghanistan, the head of the High Peace Council, Mohammad Karim Khalili said he supports the efforts for the reconciliation process but added that an Islamic emirate will not be a responsive system for Afghanistan, which he says has seen a major change ‐ compared to the Taliban
...Arabic for students...
era back in 1996-2001.

Khalili, who addressed the second consultative and political gathering of Hizb-e-Wahdat-e-Milli, led by him, said agreeing on an Islamic emirate as part of a peace deal means "surrender" of one party to another.

Therefore, Khalili suggested that the Afghan government and its international partners should ensure a dignified peace which he says is the demand of every Afghan.

"Peace under the shadow of an Islamic emirate is not peace; rather, it is surrendering of one party to another. Meanwhile,
...back at the palazzo, Count Guido had been cornered by the banditti...
it is also not peace when the [Afghan government] asks the Taliban to surrender. It means surrendering. Neither the Taliban will surrender nor the people of Afghanistan are ready to accept an Islamic emirate," Khalili stated.

Khalili said that the Taliban should realize that an Islamic emirate "will never be a responsive and acceptable government and system" for the new generation in Afghanistan.

"We should change our perspective about the future," he stressed.

His remarks are expressed a day after the US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s visit to Kabul, who met with Afghan leaders and said the US hopes there is a peace deal ahead of the upcoming presidential elections.

Meanwhile,
...back at the palazzo, Count Guido had been cornered by the banditti...
Khalili criticized the new politicians in the Lower House of the Parliament for failing to elect a speaker and called it a crisis.

He said that the rifts in the parliament are the outcome of the controversial parliamentary elections ‐ last year in October.

"We witnessed the parliamentary elections a while ago, in which the will of few people was practiced. Many institutions decided on the winning candidates. Such an election is a scandal to democracy," said Khalili.
Khalili stressed the need for transparent presidential elections in order to prevent another crisis.

Addressing the same event, Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah
... the former foreign minister of the Northern Alliance government, advisor to Masood, and candidate for president against Karzai. Dr. Abdullah was born in Kabul and is half Tadjik and half Pashtun...
who is supported by Khalili in the upcoming presidential elections, said the country is in a critical condition and that efforts are underway both for elections and the grinding of the peace processor.

"From one side people are moving towards elections to choose a better future by using their votes while on the other side, peace efforts are underway in national, regional and international level," Abdullah said.

#1  Option 1: Call the maximum no. of Taliban leadership for talks and a sit-down. Poison them all. Continue fight. It might go easier now. Show no mercy, no prisoners.

Option 2: Agree to islamic emirate thingy. Insist that it be led by a 50/50 board, have a constitution, and no Pak influence in Af. Let their leaders settle into complacence and a new lifestyle, meeting leaders and traveling to far flung locations; while India or Israel train you up a batch of figurehead Pashtuns who can speak talibanese to their dogs. Commence purge of old guard. Ring in the new.

Option 3: Back to the fighting.

Ghani To Discuss Four Key Issues In Pakistan Trip
[ToloNews] President Ashraf Ghani
...former chancellor of Kabul University, now president of Afghanistan. Before returning to Afghanistan in 2002 he was a scholar of political science and anthropology. He worked at the World Bank working on international development assistance. As Finance Minister of Afghanistan between July 2002 and December 2004, he led Afghanistan's attempted economic recovery until the Karzais stole all the money...
is expected to discuss four key issues with the Pak Prime Minister Imran Khan
... aka The Great Khan, who ain't the brightest knife in the national drawer...
during his upcoming trip to Islamabad which will take place on June 27, presidential front man Haroon Chakhansuri said on Tuesday as critics continue to blast the president over the planned trip to the neighboring nation.

Security, peace talks with the Taliban
...Arabic for students...
, regional connectivity, trade ties, and investment will dominate agenda during the meeting with the Pak leadership, said Chakhansuri.

The Afghan government has said that the trip will also help to find out how Pakistain can contribute to the Afghan grinding of the peace processor.

According to the Afghan government, Ghani accepted the invitation by the Pak leader on the recommendation of members of the peace consultative Loya Jirga which was held in April.

Ghani prepares for a trip to Pakistain at a time that the role of Pakistain in the crisis in Afghanistan has been undermining bilateral relations between the two neighbors.

"The president should convince Pakistain to work with interest towards intra-Afghan talks," said MP Habiburrahman Pedram.

"There is no doubt about it that Pakistain has interfered in Afghanistan over the past 40 years, but it clearly committed aggression that needs to be stopped now. Stability will be ensured in Afghanistan once this aggression is ended," said university lecturer Nasrullah Stanekzai.

"Our argument is that the issue of elections will be discussed during these tours and there is a mechanism to prevent it," said Assadullah Saadati, second running mate to Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah
... the former foreign minister of the Northern Alliance government, advisor to Masood, and candidate for president against Karzai. Dr. Abdullah was born in Kabul and is half Tadjik and half Pashtun...
in the upcoming presidential elections.

The visit marks Ghani’s second state visit to Islamabad since 2014.

Lal Masjid’s khateeb removed, Maulana Aziz’s entry banned for three months
[DAWN] The capital administration has removed the khateeb of Lal Masjid
...literally the Red Mosque, located in Islamabad and frequented by all sorts of high govt officials. The proprietors, Ghazi Abdul Rasheed and Maulana Abdul Aziz Ghazi, unleashed their Islamic storm troopers on the city, shutting down whorehouses and beating people up who weren't devout enough. The Musharraf govt put an end to the nonsense by besieging the place. Abdul Aziz Ghazi was nabbed while he was trying to escape dressed up like a girl. BBC reported that the corpse count at 173, but other claims, usually hysterical, say there were up to 1000 titzup. Among their number was Abdul Rashid Ghazi. Everyone then said tut-tut and what a nice guy he had been...
and imposed a three-month ban on the entry of former khateeb Maulana Abdul Aziz
...nutball holy man who runs the Lal Masjid in the heart of Pakistain's capital. After instigating a rebellion against the state in 2007, he was caught trying to sneak away dressed in a burka. He rejects democracy as un-Islamic, which it probably is...
in the mosque.

The decision was taken after a meeting between Deputy Commissioner Hamza Shafqaat and Ulema, including Mufti Raees Ayubi from Azad Kashmire and Qazi Nisar from Gilgit-Baltistan.

Former administration of Jamia Hafsa
... the Islamic nunnery maintained by Lal Masjid....
, including Maulana Abdul Aziz’s wife Umme Hassam, along with 80 students came to Lal Masjid after a plot allotted to the seminary was cancelled.

They started living in eight rooms on the premises of the mosque adjacent to the weekly bazaar and commenced educational activities, said officials. The DC requested the Ulema at the meeting held on Monday to play their role in getting the rooms vacated.

The Ulema played the role of mediators between the capital administration and the former administration of the mosque.

It was decided that teachers and students of Jamia Hafsa would continue their educational activities in Lal Masjid for three months. During this period, the capital administration would resolve the issue of the cancellation of a plot allotted to Jamia Hafsa so that they could be shifted there.

When contacted, officers of the capital administration neither confirmed nor denied the development saying so far no notification had been issued.

However,
if you can't be a good example, then you'll just have to be a horrible warning...
an official confirmed to Dawn that the khateeb of the mosque had been transferred on his own request.

After the development, the capital administration and police reopened the Masjid Road which had been closed a few days ago.

Ehtesham Ahmed, a close associate of the former Lal Masjid administration, told Dawn that Khateeb Amir Siddiqui had been suspended by the Auqaf department after Monday’s meeting. Ulema from Kashmire and Gilgit played their role in getting the issue resolved, he added.

"Now 10 Muftis from Lal Masjid’s Darul Ifta will be leading prayers till the appointment of a new khateeb after three months," he said.

During the meeting, he added, it was also agreed that Maulana Aziz would not enter the mosque for three months.

The issue related to the cancellation of the plot allotted to Jamia Hafsa was also discussed, Mr Ahmed said. It was decided that the students and teachers of the madressah would continue their educational activities in Lal Masjid but no more students would be enrolled there.

The capital administration also agreed that it would make efforts to get a plot arranged from the civic agency for the students.

Maulana Aziz remained khateeb of Lal Masjid from 1998 to 2004. He was arrested during the Lal Masjid operation in 2007.

Later, Maulana Abdul Ghaffar was appointed as the khateeb and Amir Siddiqui the naib khateeb on temporary basis.

In 2009, Maulana Ghaffar left the mosque after the release of Maulana Aziz and the latter started leading prayers in Lal Masjid till 2014 when a ban was imposed on him.

Amir Siddiqui then led prayers and three months ago was appointed the mosque’s khateeb.
