Detroit woman tracks down stolen Mercedes, suspect dragged from barbershop by dreds
DETROIT (FOX 2) - A Detroit woman who had her Mercedes Benz stolen refused to sit at home feeling sorry for herself. Instead, she followed it all across Detroit until she decided to take matters into her own hands.

Bianca Chambers said for two days, she tracked her car throughout the city until Wednesday when the man parked her car and went to get his hair done. That's when she confronted the thief.

"At that point, I was like...I’m not letting this man walk again," she said.

She walked into a barbershop at Greenfield and Grand River and was face-to-face with the guy she says stole her new Benz and asked him point-blank - is that his Benz? When he denied it, she took him down.

"He’s at 7 Days West, getting his dreds twisted," she said in a Facebook live while watching her car.

Customers then stepped in to make a citizen's arrest while Bianca, sick of seeing him drive off in her car, slashed her own tires! Then she called the police.

#1  Hmmmm... if Detroit was at its nadir in the '80s, then something like 35-40 years (two generations?) for people to start valuing the rule of law?

They've also elected a sheriff who values self-defense -- now if they can take the schools back from the "professional educators", they may start rebuilding the city.

'Defund the Police' Advocate Rep. Cori Bush Spent $54,000 On Private Security Company: FEC
[ZERO] Rep. Cori Bush (D-Mo.), a member of the far-left "squad," spent over $50,000 on a private security firm over the past three months, according to campaign filings.

Federal Elections Commission (FEC) filings show her campaign spent more than $54,000 on RS&T Security Consulting, LLC., for "security services" between April 15 and June 28.

A cached version of RS&T Security Consulting’s website—which is offline—shows the business provides "executive protection agents" for "first-class executive protection and security for national and international figures." It’s not clear why the website was taken down or if the business is still active.

The website also shows Secret Service-like agents as an example of what services are provided.

"Our Protection Specialists are highly skilled in a multitude of armed and unarmed protective services, surveillance system instillations and private investigative services," the website says. "Our diverse close protection teams are trained, licensed personnel whom are experts in the private and public sector in 136 cities throughout the United States," it adds.

She also paid $15,000 to a Nathaniel Davis for "security services" around the same time. It’s unclear who Davis is or what services he offered, although Davis’s address in the filings is the same as Bush’s campaign headquarters, Fox News reported.

Since she was elected into office, Bush has consistently called for defunding or "transforming" police departments. When various cities cut police funding in the midst of left-wing riots and demonstrations last year, the Missouri Democrat cheered the move.

"Today’s decision to defund the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department is historic. It marks a new future for our city," Bush said in an April statement when the City of St. Louis stripped funding to the St. Louis Police Department. "For decades, our city funneled more and more money into our police department under the guise of public safety, while massively underinvesting in the resources that will truly keep our communities safe," Bush added.

America Goes On A Buyer's Strike: Explosive Inflation Leads To Record Collapse In Home, Car Purchase Plans
[ZERO] For the past several months we have warned about the pernicious effects soaring prices are having on both corporations ("Buckle Up! Inflation Is Here!") and consumers (""This Is Not Transitory": Hyperinflation Fears Are Soaring Across America"), prompting even otherwise boring sellside research to get (hyper) exciting, with Deutsche Bank (which warned this week that "Inflation Is About To Explode "Leaving Global Economies Sitting On A Time Bomb"") and Bank of America (which "Just Threw Up All Over The Fed's "Transitory" Argument") now openly claiming that the Fed is wrong, and the US is facing an unprecedented period of far higher, non-transitory inflation, with DB going so far as to warn "policymakers will face the most challenging years since the Volcker/Reagan period in the 1980s."

But none of this has spooked the Fed into conceding - or believing - that inflation is anything more than transitory. And maybe just this once, the Fed has a point because all else equal, by which we mean lack of rising wages, the best cure to higher prices is, well, higher prices.

The Feds Delayed Action on Hunter Biden's Taxes and Now We Know Why
[Townhall] The investigation into one of Hunter Biden's many sordid affairs was punted until after Election Day — a more politically convenient time for the Biden family — by those investigating the first son, according to a new report published Friday morning.

As Townhall reported on December 9, 2020 — barely a month after Election Day — Joe Biden's presidential transition team revealed that Hunter Biden was under federal investigation over questions about his taxes and unreported income.

"I learned yesterday for the first time that the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Delaware advised my legal counsel, also yesterday, that they are investigating my tax affairs," explained Hunter in a statement.

But according to a report, Hunter could — and perhaps should — have learned about the investigation months earlier at the height of the presidential contest between his father and President Donald Trump.

As early as last summer, POLITICO reports, the U.S. Attorney's Office in Delaware had collected enough evidence and "reached a point at which investigators could have issued grand jury subpoenas and sought search warrants that might have revealed its existence at a time when many of then-President Donald Trump’s supporters were seeking to draw attention to Hunter Biden’s actions."

Investigators and officials "advised Delaware’s U.S. Attorney, David Weiss, to avoid taking any actions that could alert the public to the existence of the case in the middle of a presidential election."

This "dilemma" over whether to move forward with the investigation as normal or delay taking further action to push making the probe public until after the election resulted in U.S. Attorney David Weiss — a Trump appointee — choosing to punt.

Philadelphia's Proterra Electric Bus Fleet in Complete Shambles
[Free Beacon] More than two dozen electric Proterra buses first unveiled by the city of Philadelphia in 2016 are already out of operation, according to a WHYY investigation.

The entire fleet of Proterra buses was removed from the roads by SEPTA, the city's transit authority, in February 2020 due to both structural and logistical problems—the weight of the powerful battery was cracking the vehicles' chassis, and the battery life was insufficient for the city's bus routes. The city raised the issues with Proterra, which failed to adequately address the city's concerns.

The city paid $24 million for the 25 new Proterra buses, subsidized in part by a $2.6 million federal grant. Philadelphia defended the investment with claims that the electric buses would require less maintenance than standard combustion engine counterparts.

"There’s a lot less moving parts on an electric bus than there is on an internal combustion engine," SEPTA chief Jeffrey Knueppel said in June 2019. Knueppel retired from the post just months later.

Government Corruption
As Arizona audit winds down, auditors are still denied access to Maricopa Co. routers
[JTN] As the contentious audit of Maricopa County, Arizona's 2020 election results draws nearer to a close, audit officials still lack access to computer equipment that auditors believe is critical to ensure a full review of the county's records.

Maricopa County officials in May refused to hand over routers requested by election auditors at the time, claiming that to do so would pose a security risk due to the county's intermingling of various departments on multiple routers.

The routers "support [more than 50] departments, not just elections operations," including "critical law enforcement data that, by law, cannot be disclosed, as well as Maricopa County residents' protected health information and full social security numbers," a county official claimed in May.

At the time the issue seemed to be heading toward a standoff, with the county citing a security privilege and the auditors pointing to a judge's ruling directing the county to comply with the state Senate's subpoena.

Yet several months later, as the bulk of the audit work is winding down, the routers remain wholly absent from the evidence file. During a state Senate hearing this week, lead auditor Ben Cotton stated that it was "critically important" for investigators to obtain access to the routers to fully complete the audit.

-Great Cultural Revolution
The slippery slope people were right
[American Thinker] Indulge me for a moment while I explain how my thinking on gay rights evolved over a period of about twenty years. As a person with a definite libertarian streak, I have always thought that sex between consenting adults in private, including gay sex, is none of my business. It’s not that I ever rooted for gay sex. It’s just that I could really care less; it had no impact on my life. Then, around the turn of the century, some gay people in the Bay Area became more activist around gay rights. A common protest slogan at the time was: "We’re here! We’re queer! Get used to it!" So, the issue for me went from "I don’t care because it has no impact on my life," to "should I tolerate sexual expression in public." Nowadays, there are events in San Francisco like the Folsom Street Fair (an annual event) where attendees have sex in public, in full view of non-attendee passersby, including children. Say what you want about whether such behavior comports with the general community standards of a place like San Francisco, but I’m not down. Sure, I don’t live in San Francisco, but it’s a fifteen-minute drive from home.

Fast forward to now and the "slippery slope" that some commenters warned about has morphed into a triple-black-diamond ski run. The point is that the people who warned about the slippery slope were right and the people who dismissed the slippery slope argument with their cries of "For Pete’s sake! No one’s talking about (gay marriage, changing genders... fill in the blank)." were wrong; at least on the issue of gay rights.

I don’t know whether the "no one’s talking about" people are genuine when they say that; my guess is it’s a clever diversion to limit discussion to the immediate without consideration of the long-term implications. Either way, I’m not buying it anymore. The only question for me is the next thing that no one’s talking about. Legalized pedophilia? Human-robot marriage? Legalized bestiality? It’s time for people to take these scenarios seriously while there is still a modicum of community standards resisting such horrors. Because even though some might say "no one’s talking about" it, you can sure bet there are some activist people thinking it.

Now, let’s move on to gay marriage. I’m not a fan, though I did have an alternative in mind (too late now), which some of my friends dismissed as unworkable back before Newsom started marrying people at City Hall in 2004. Specifically, why is the government in the marriage business in the first place? Wouldn’t it be better to convey legal status to couples for purposes of taxation, medical access, etc., through universal civil unions? If it were handled that way, any couple, same sex or not, could be treated equally under the law, without mixing up the legal side of things with the religious-sociological implications of redefining marriage. People who want to be married, in addition to having their civil union, could have a separate ceremony at church willing to accept them for that purpose. Just a thought, and like I said, it’s too late now.

Africa Subsaharan
South Africa shames U.S. Democrats by uniting against criminality
[WND] Against the backdrop of conflagration in South Africa, I offer positive commentary about the country of my birth. Do I need to provide a disclaimer before saying positive things about South Africa mid-riots?

Probably — given that I'm the author of a scathing, 2011 — dare I say prescient? — indictment of the political dispensation forced upon South Africa by the "Anglo-American Axis of Evil."

That dispensation is the "one man, one vote, one time" arrangement, to quote "Into the Cannibal's Pot: Lessons for America From Post-Apartheid South Africa": "Democracy is especially dangerous in ethnically and racially divided societies, where majorities and minorities are rigidly predetermined and politically permanent."

That's what the West forced on South Africa.

For the last decade, I've seen South Africa as a sea of troubles — and a harbinger of things to come in America. When America becomes a majority-minority country, it will likely resemble South Africa.

#1  I posted this because yesterday someone referenced the rise in cases in San Diego. Check out the County Health Department’s “Weekly Status Update” at the link. Notice the asterisk at the bottom of the chart entitled “COVID-19 cases by date reported” . After almost 1.5 years the County has decided to change their definition of a “new case”. Essentially they are now adding new cases each day to the totals the day before, Then they drop off old cases of the disease when they feel like it. If this was a business it would be accounting fraud.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Two months after ceasefire, Gaza's economy is at its worst
[YNet] - The latest devastating round of fighting between Israel and Gaza ended nearly two months ago, leaving behind shattered infrastructure and a paralyzed economy that threatens the livelihoods of the two million residents of the coastal territory.

"The total losses and damages amounted to $479 million, distributed over three sectors: the housing and infrastructure sector, which suffered 61% of the total damage; the economic development sector, with 33% of the damage; and the social development sector, with 7% of the damage," the Higher Governmental Committee for the Reconstruction of Gaza announced on Monday.
Actions have consequences, who knew?
The industrial and the private sectors are the worst affected by the crisis, says Ali al-Hayek, head of the Palestinian Businessmen Association.
Friedrich - what do you have to say for yourself?
"More than 1,000 economic facilities were destroyed during the latest Israeli aggression. The private sector has been particularly targeted since 2000, going through three previous wars without any kind of support," he says.

NASA revives ailing Hubble Space Telescope with switch to backup computer
[Space.com] The Hubble Space Telescope has powered on once again! NASA was able to successfully switch to a backup computer on the observatory on Friday (July 16) following weeks of computer problems.

On June 13, Hubble shut down after a payload computer from the 1980s that handles the telescope's science instruments suffered a glitch. Now, over a month since Hubble ran into issues, which the Hubble team thinks were caused by the spacecraft's Power Control Unit (PCU), NASA switched to backup hardware and was able to switch the scope back on.

With Hubble back online with this backup hardware, the Hubble team is keeping a close watch to make sure that everything works correctly, according to a statement from NASA.

Weight: At Launch: about 24,000 pounds (10,886 kg)
Post SM4: about 27,000 pounds (12,247 kg)
Maximum Diameter: 14 feet (4.2 m)
Spaceflight Statistics
Low Earth Orbit: Altitude of 340 miles (295 nautical miles, or 547 km), inclined 28.5 degrees to the equator
Time to Complete One Orbit: about 95 minutes
Speed: about 17,000 mph (27,300 kph)
Optical Capabilities
Sensitivity to Light: Ultraviolet through Infrared (115–2500 nanometers)
Hubble's Mirrors
Primary Mirror Diameter: 94.5 inches (2.4 m)
Primary Mirror Weight: 1,825 pounds (828 kg)
Secondary Mirror Diameter: 12 inches (0.3 m)
Secondary Mirror Weight: 27.4 pounds (12.3 kg)
Pointing Accuracy
In order to take images of distant, faint objects, Hubble must be extremely steady and accurate. The telescope is able to lock onto a target without deviating more than 7/1000th of an arcsecond, or about the width of a human hair seen at a distance of 1 mile.
Data Statistics
Hubble transmits about 150 gigabits of raw science data every week.
Power Needs
Energy Source: The Sun
Mechanism: Two 25-foot solar panels
Power Generation (in Sunlight): about 5,500 watts
Power Usage (Average): about 2,100 watts
Power Storage
Batteries: 6 nickel-hydrogen (NiH)
Storage Capacity: Equal to about 22 average car batteries
Did you know...
Hubble has made more than 1.3 million observations since its mission began in 1990.
Astronomers using Hubble data have published more than 15,000 scientific papers, making it one of the most productive scientific instruments ever built. Those papers have been cited in other papers 738,000 times.
Hubble does not travel to stars, planets or galaxies. It takes pictures of them as it whirls around Earth at about 17,000 mph.
Hubble has circled Earth and gone more than 4 billion miles along a circular low earth orbit currently about 340 miles in altitude.
Hubble has no thrusters. To change angles, it uses Newton’s third law by spinning its wheels in the opposite direction. It turns at about the speed of a minute hand on a clock, taking 15 minutes to turn 90 degrees.
Hubble has the pointing accuracy of .007 arcseconds, which is like being able to shine a laser beam on President Roosevelt’s head on a dime about 200 miles away.
Outside the haze of our atmosphere, it can see astronomical objects with an angular size of 0.05 arcseconds, which is like seeing a pair of fireflies in Tokyo that are less than 10 feet apart from Washington, DC.
Due to the combination of optics and sensitive detectors and with no atmosphere to interfere with the light reaching it, Hubble can spot a night light on the surface of the Moon from Earth.
Hubble has peered back into the very distant past, to locations more than 13.4 billion light-years from Earth.
Hubble generates about 10 terabytes of new data per year. The total archive is currently over 150 TB in size.
Hubble weighed about 24,000 pounds at launch but if returned to Earth today would weigh about 27,000 pounds — on the order of two full-grown African elephants.
Hubble's primary mirror is 2.4 meters (7 feet, 10.5 inches) across. It was so finely polished that if you scaled it to be the diameter of the Earth, you would not find a bump more than 6 inches tall.
Hubble is 13.3 meters (43.5 feet) long — the length of a large school bus.

From what I saw, they have four redundant computers on board. Primary failed -- they tried the secondary and it failed. They just now decided to try the tertiary. It likely took so long because the primary and secondary appear to have failed the same way -- and that would be confusing, as the odds of that have to be slim.

Afghanistan
ANDSF Retakes Three Districts in Last 24 Hours: MoD
[ToloNews] As festivities continue in various provinces, the Defense Ministry said on Friday that Afghan National Defense and Security Forces retook the control of Saighan and Kahmard districts in Bamiyan
...a place in Afghanistan that used to have some historically interesting statues of the Buddha carved into a mountainside. Then the holy men showed up and now all they have is some big holes...
and Chakhansur district in Nimroz in the last 24 hours.

"In an operation that began this morning, districts were retaken in a short time by security forces, and the country's flag was raised back on the districts," Bamiyan governor Tahir Zuhair said.

The Ministry of Defense said the operations by Afghan cops are underway to push back the Taliban

attacks on cities and to retake the areas that are under Taliban influence.

"Operation by the ANDSF to retake districts that were under the influence of the enemy is underway," Defense Ministry front man Rohullah Ahmadzai said.

Taliban claimed on Friday to have entered the city of Sheberghan, the center of Jawzjan province in the north, but local officials said the attacks were pushed back.

"The security situation is terrible. All shops are closed and the city is full of panic and horror," a Sheberghan resident Jan Mohammad said.

"People are mobilized and have taken arms in all streets and there is no problem at the moment," Jawzjan Police Chief Khwajah Jilani Abu Bakr said.

Reports suggest that the security situation in the city of Taluqan, the center of Takhar, is concerning.

"We are legitimate, and the country is ours. God willing, victory is ours," said Pir Mohammad Khaksar, a commander of public uprising forces in Taluqan.

"All their offensives were pushed back. We have taken positions with a group of security forces and the public uprising forces," Takhar governor Abdullah Qarluq said.

Sources said that 10 non-combatants were killed and 10 others were maimed in an Arclight airstrike
...KABOOM!...
by government forces in Shohada district in Badakhshan on Thursday, but government rejects the claim.

Also, one person was killed and six more were maimed in a magnetic kaboom in the city of Kunduz on Friday morning, the provincial police said.

Though there are reports of about 10 military and civilian casualties in the last 24 hours, but the Ministry of Defense said that 208 Taliban fighters were killed and 153 more were maimed in Afghan forces operations in the last 24 hours. Taliban has rejected the claim.

Iraq
Sadr dissolves own political party following withdrawal from elections
”Pay attention to MEEEEEE!!!
[Rudaw] The leader of the Sadrist movement and Shiite holy man Moqtada Tater al-Sadr
...hereditary Iraqi holy man and leader of a political movement in Iraq. He had his hereditary rival, al-Khoei, assassinated only a few hours after the holy rival's appearance out of exile in 2003. Formerly an Iranian catspaw, lately he's gagged over some of their more outlandish antics, then went back to catspawry...
, decided on Thursday to close the political body of the Sadrist movement, hours after he announced his withdrawal from the upcoming elections.

A document issued by the private office of the Sadr movement in Najaf stated that "in view of the current circumstances and in the interest of the people and the country, it was decided to dissolve the political party."

Sadr’s announcement comes three months ahead of the parliamentary election and days after a deadly fire swept through a coronavirus (aka COVID19 or Chinese Plague)
...the twenty first century equivalent of bubonic plague, only instead of killing off a third of the population of Europe it kills 3.4 percent of those who notice they have it. It seems to be fond of the elderly, especially Iranian politicians and holy men...
ward at a Nasiriyah hospital, killing dozens and igniting public anger against the government.

The statement also included that Sadr appointed Nassar al-Rubaie, head of the political body, and his deputy, Muhammad al-Mawsili, as his advisors.

Sadr does not hold an elected position himself, but he leads the Sairoon coalition, parliament’s largest bloc. He was among the first people to speak up in January when the election was postponed from June 6 to October 10, saying he would not accept any further delay.

"I will not allow another postponement of the elections as long as I live," he said at the time.

This is not the first time that Sadr has announced his boycott of the elections, his retirement from "political life" and the closure of the political arm of his movement. This happened in 2014, according to a statement by al Sadr back then saying, "I declare that I will not interfere in any political matters and that no bloc represents us anymore."

Sadr also froze his bloc in Parliament in 2016, and before that, he withdrew all his ministers from the government in 2013, however, the controversial leader retracted those decisions shortly after.

Sadr has been a vocal supporter of reform and anti-corruption campaigns for years. When anti-government protests broke out in October 2019, he sent members of his militia forces, the Peace Brigades to protect the demonstrators. However,
a poor excuse is better than no excuse at all...
Sadr changed his position and by February 2020, his militias were involved in violence against protests.

#1  In early 2020 it was noted that Sadr had drastically redefined his political stance. "Since 2003, he has gone from Shia sectarian militia leader to pro-democracy reformist and Iraqi nationalist. And in the past few months, he has given mixed signals, both supporting and criticising the protesters. The most recent incidents of Sadrist violence targeting demonstrators provoked a societal backlash, prompting Sadr to change tack once more." He tehn announced that he would disband his personal militia and allowed their actions against street protestors to be investigated. He now announces the end to the Sadrist movement. This new move is yet another surprise but hopefully allows a period of internal political peace.

[KhaamaPress] According to reports from southern Kandahar province, an Indian journalist was killed during the war in the Spinboldak district of Kandahar bordering Pakistain.

The Afghan journalists’ union confirmed the murder of Danish Siddiqui, an Indian photojournalist who used to work for Rooters.

The union said the journalist was killed last night during the war, he was in the area to cover the war in southern Afghanistan.

Danish was a Pulitzer prize winner and used to work as a photojournalist for Rooters. He had a degree in Mass Communication and as well as another degree in economics from Jamia Islamia, Delhi.

Erdogan claims irregularities and the results are annulled.

But opposition candidate Ekrem Imamoglu wins again in a June re-run in Istanbul, by a much bigger margin.

ERDOGAN'S 'NIGHT WATCHMEN'
A controversial law in June 2020 grants police-like powers to neighbourhood "night watchmen" patrols, leading critics to accuse Erdogan of trying to build a militia.

Former Libyan PM, Al-Sarraj Purchases Vanuatu's Passport
[LIBYAREVIEW] The British news and media website "The Guardian" identified Libya’s former Prime Minister of the Government of National Accord (GNA), Fayez al-Sarraj as one of a number of prominent political figures who purchased citizenship from Vanuatu.

As Libyan ceasefire talks began to break down in January 2020, Fayez al-Sarraj obtained passports for himself and his family — applied for under his wife’s name. After resigning in March of this year, he has since reportedly left Libya, the Guardian explained. In March 2021, al-Sarraj went on to resign from his position as PM of the Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
-based GNA.

The Guardian said that al-Sarraj’s probable status as a politically exposed person (PEP) means that he would likely have faced greater hurdles or even been barred from applying to many countries offering citizenship-by-investment programs, in the Caribbean or EU. A politically exposed person is defined as someone considered more susceptible to bribery and corruption, by virtue of their position.

Since January 2020, more than 2,000 people have purchased citizenship of the remote Pacific island nation of Vanuatu, home to just 300,000 people.

A months-long investigation by the Guardian has detailed for the first time how, for US$130,000 each, Vanuatu sold passports — and with them visa-free access to the UK and EU — to thousands of individuals, including high-profile former politicians, and also to people linked to sanctions, facing serious allegations, and those with warrants out for their arrest.

The sale of passports brought in more than US$100m to the Vanuatu government last year, with an analysis by Investment Migration Insider finding it accounted for 42% of all government revenue in 2020. Revenue from the program has enabled Vanuatu, one of the poorest countries in the world, to reduce its debt stock.

But security experts have also raised concerns about the program, warning it could create a back door for access to the EU and UK, and Vanuatu’s taxation laws make the country an attractive site for money laundering.

Texas lawmaker mocked for posting photo of her lingerie during DC trip
[NYPOST] Democratic Texas Rep. Donna Howard has been lambasted for trying to portray Democrats’ "sacrifice" during a trip to Washington, DC, to stymie a GOP-backed election reform bill — by airing her hand-washed bra and leopard print panties online.

"You bet we’re recognizing & honoring our country’s heritage. As most Texans, tho, this is what we’re doing tonight—using whatever is accessible, uwashing (sic) our clothes in the sink," the Lone Star State politician said in a tweet.

Howard was among more than 50 members of the Texas House of Representatives who jetted from Austin to DC on chartered flights Monday to block the reform bills for a second time by denying a quorum.

Her post included a photo of her wet clothes — a bra, three pairs of plain undies and a leopard-print shirt and panties — draped over a shower curtain in her hotel room.

Critics suggested that Howard’s public display of her unmentionables was another self-serving attempt by a Democrat to portray the politicians’ absence from their state as a personal sacrifice instead of a political strategy move.

US judge blocks new applications to DACA program for 'dreamer' immigrants
[JPost] Dems had a chance for a grand bargain along with fixing/filling the remainder of the wall. They chose politics
A US federal judge in Texas on Friday ruled a program that protects immigrants who were brought to the United States as children, often known as "Dreamers," from deportation violated US law when it was created, but said the hundreds of thousands of people already with the status would not be affected until further court rulings.

US District Judge Andrew Hanen sided with a group of states suing to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, arguing it was illegally created by former President Barack Obama in 2012. Hanen blocked the government from approving any new DACA applications. There are nearly 650,000 people currently enrolled in the program.
Which means that when the time comes to send them home so they can apply to come legally, we’ll know who they are and where they live.

#7  From The Volokh Conspiracy, some thoughts:

The Path Forward For The Texas DACA Case
A stay from the Fifth Circuit is unlikely. Do Justices Kavanaugh and/or Barrett have the "fortitude" to let the injunction go into effect?

Today, Judge Hanen ruled that DACA was both procedurally and substantively invalid. (Co-blogger Jon Adler wrote about it here). This case has been pending forever. Texas filed the original complaint in May 2018. The case sat around while the DACA rescission litigation wound through the federal courts. Last June, the Chief set aside the rescission memorandum in Regents. Now, a year later, the district court set aside the original policy, which has been in effect since 2012. Yes, the policy is more than 9 years old. It has stretched the entirety of my academic career.

At this point, the Defendant-Intervenors, as well as the Biden Administration, will seek a stay from the Fifth Circuit. That remedy is very unlikely, as Hanen's decision follows very closely from the Fifth Circuit's DAPA decision. Later, the parties will seek an emergency stay from the Supreme Court.

How do the votes shake out? I suspect the Chief Justice will grant a stay for all three remedies. There is only one jurist in the country who can radically alter federal law, and his name is John G. Roberts. And we know the Chief does not like district court injunctions. Alas, Roberts plus the Kagan three makes four–not enough for a stay. And if all four dissent from the denial of a stay, it will be obvious to the world that Justices Kavanaugh and/or Barrett refused to help the Dreamers.

Will Justices Kavanaugh and Barrett have, in the words of Justice Gorsuch, the "fortitude" to deny the stay? Justice Kavanaugh recently split the difference in the eviction case: he found the moratorium illegal but declined to put that ruling into effect. My prediction? He declines to stay the first ground of relief, vote to stay at the second ground for relief, and urges the Court to grant cert before judgment for the third ground for relief. Plus he writes a hand-wringing concurrence about how DACA is illegal but the Dreamers are such wonderful people. He can copy-and-paste from his Regents decision: "They live, go to school, and work here with uncertainty about their futures."

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Homeless man with 90 prior arrests busted for anti-gay assault in Queens
[NYPOST] A homeless career criminal with more than 90 previous arrests was busted for allegedly slashing a man and hurling anti-gay statements at him in Queens last week, cops said.

Ramon Castro, 55, was arrested Thursday morning in connection with the early July 6 attack on a 34-year-old man on 77th Street near 37th Road in Jackson Heights, authorities said.

Castro — who has previously been arrested dozens of times, including for allegedly swiping an ATM machine — got into a spat with the victim around 3:10 a.m. and at one point snarled, "I hate Latinos and f—-t people!," according to cops and prosecutors.

Then he slashed the victim in the face with a wooden stake, cutting his cheek, according to prosecutors.

The victim was taken to Elmhurst Hospital Center, where he required eight stitches on the outside of his cheek and eight stitches on the inside, prosecutors said.

When cops interviewed the suspect, he said, "Homosexuals are OK, but not when you’re an adult," according to a criminal complaint.

Castro was charged with assault, menacing and aggravated harassment, all as hate crimes.

New 'Space Jam' Movie With LeBron James Sucks Big Hairy Donkey Balls
Get Woke, Go Broke, Chapter 133. This is another example of Hollywood movie makers lack of ideas and creativity. Since it's all CGI bullshit to begin with they probably won't lose their shirts, thus inviting another round of crappy 'movies' of self-absorbed athletes who go through the motions to grab another paycheck.

I hope you like reading bad movie reviews as much as I do.

[Outkick] - Space Jam: A New Legacy starring LeBron James sucks, according to nearly every film critic. Get ready, these are good.

"LeBron James’ film is an abomination," the New York Post says. "During the endless final sequence of Space Jam: A New Legacy, Porky Pig calls himself ’the Notorious P.I.G.’ and begins to rap. ’This pig is lit,’ the Looney Tune says. ’I’m super legit.'"

"Porky should’ve added: ’And my movie is s—t.'"

Fair enough.

CNBC, not as liberal as the rest of NBC’s properties but still bad, calls Space Jam 2 a "bloated mess."

Word is LeBron’s new film was scored "Rotten" on Rotten Tomatoes, holding just a 37% score. For context, that’s awful.
For some perspective that's tied with Ishtar, for those keeping score at home.
Space Jam supporters and LeBron stans bragged about the film’s CGI. According to the L.A. Times, though, the movie’s CGI mirrors a garbage tornado.

Britain
UK 'poo bomber' banned from defecating, urinating in public
[NYPOST] A 50-year-old British woman who "poo bombed" her neighbor’s property during a 25-year harassment campaign has been banned from "urinating or defecating" in any open space, the Sun reported.
Take warning! It could happen to you!
Femme fecal Amanda Lee, from Crewe, Cheshire, has a lengthy crap sheet of 15 convictions stretching from 1996 to 2018 — including incidents of anti-social behavior, harassment and public order offenses, according to the outlet.
Only twenty two years? Got right on it, didn't they?
Authorities also have accused Lee of repeatedly making nuisance emergency calls.
"911!"
"Hello? 911? Is your refrigerator running?"
"Yeah."
"Well, why don'tcha go catch it!"

Cheshire police applied for a Criminal Behaviour Order, which the Crewe Magistrates’ Court granted Monday.
Ahah! A restraint order! And it only took 22 years?
The order bans her from engaging in certain behaviors, including urinating and defecating outside, possessing booze in an open container in an exclusion zone and using abusive language, the Sun reported.
Dear lordy! How will she ever make it through a week?
Lee also was banned from calling the cops unless she has a valid reason.
“Is Frank Walls there?”
“No.”
“Is Pete Walls there?”
“No.”
“Are there any Walls there?”
“No.”
“Then what’s holding up the roof?”

"A criminal behavior order is sought once all reasonable avenues have been explored regarding persistent offenders," police front man Alex Baker said.
A trip to the dunking chair woulda ended that crap 21.9 years ago. But we don't do that stuff anymore.
"In this case, Lee’s attitude and behavior has been ongoing since the 1990s and she has been convicted numerous times for incidents that impacts greatly on residents," Baker said.
Twenty whacks with a 3/4 inch pine plank woulda calmed her pretty well too.
"She has persistently shown no consideration at all for the actions her offending has had on others," the officer added. "There comes a point when you have to say enough is enough and take additional action to protect the community and businesses in the area."
"Bowling alley!"
"Do you have ten pound balls?"
"Yeah."
"Ain't it hard to walk like that?"

IDF fires flares near Lebanese border after suspicious movements
[IsraelTimes] Military scanning area near Metula, but says no fears of an attack.

The Israeli military fired flares along the Lebanese border Friday night, near the town of Metula, after identifying suspicious movement in the border area, the army said.

The military said troops were searching the area, though it added that the incident was not a potential attack.

Earlier Friday a military drone crashed in Lebanese territory due to a technical malfunction, the military said.

The Israel Defense Forces said the incident was being investigated and added that no sensitive information had been lost due to the crash and there was no risk of intelligence being taken from the device.

Earlier this month the military seized dozens of weapons on the Lebanese border as they were being smuggled into the country.

Israeli security officials were said to believe the weapons were destined to be used in terror attacks inside Israel.

JoeBamanomics – Federal BLS Report Shows Declining US Wages 1.2 Percent Lower Than Last Year, Biden Administration Leading Economic War on Women
[The Last Refuge] Well, well, well.... though financial media will say this is remarkably unexpected, it is something CTH specifically predicted we would see — and it is happening exactly on the timeline CTH anticipated.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics releases the second quarter national wage rate data today {BLS DATA HERE}. U.S. wages DECLINED 1.2% in the second quarter of 2021 compared to last year. When reviewing the data [Table 2], look at the negative impact to women, specifically Black and Asian women:

TOP LINE — Combine a 1.2% decline in earned wages with a 5.4% overall inflation rate recently reported {Go Deep}, and what you get is a 6.6% drop in real income amid the working class. That, my friends, is exactly what we said should be expected. That is also why the JoeBama administration needs to pump more money into the system (human infrastructure spending) in order to stop people from realizing just how bad it is.

Malaysia to Stop Using Sinovac Vaccine, Will Switch to Pfizer
You know what they say: thirty minutes after you get the Chinese jab, you’re hungry sick again.
[BenarNews] Malaysia will stop using China’s Sinovac COVID-19 vaccine, the health minister said Thursday without specifying why, days after Thailand and Indonesia announced that many of their citizens would get a non-Sinovac booster jab if they had received the Chinese shot.

Thailand and Indonesia announced their policies on a booster shot amid growing concerns about the effectiveness of the Chinese-made vaccine, and after some people in those countries died of the coronavirus (aka COVID19 or Chinese Plague)
...the twenty first century equivalent of bubonic plague, only instead of killing off a third of the population of Europe it kills 3.4 percent of those who notice they have it. It seems to be fond of the elderly, especially Iranian politicians and holy men...
despite being inoculated with two shots of Sinovac.

After authorities in Kelantan said the state would stop using Sinovac, Malaysian Health Minister Adham Baba confirmed the move and said it would soon apply nationwide because the country had ordered more vaccines from another company.

"So, it started in Kelantan and soon other states will follow. As a replacement [for Sinovac] for the rest of the population that will be vaccinated, we will give Pfizer’s [vaccine]," Adham said at a press briefing.

"[W]e have secured 45.7 million [doses] of Pfizer compared to 16 million doses of Sinovac. Half of the Sinovac vaccines were already given and we will use the other half for the second dose."

On Monday, Thailand’s government said that it planned to give AstraZeneca jabs to those who had received the Sinovac vaccine as their first jab. The decision came after unconfirmed reports about the low efficacy of Sinovac and the weekend death of a nurse who was given both shots of the Chinese jab.

Last week, Indonesia said it planned to give a third vaccination to many of the 1.47 million medical workers inoculated with Sinovac, using a jab developed by Moderna — another American drug firm — to protect them from the highly contagious Delta variant of COVID-19.

An Indonesian volunteer group that keeps tabs on pandemic data, LaporCOVID-19, said more than 1,100 health workers had succumbed to the virus since the start of the pandemic. At least 85 had died this month although some had been fully vaccinated with Sinovac.

Malaysia is in the throes of a huge rise in coronavirus infections.

On Thursday, the country broke the daily case record for the third day in a row, reporting 13,215 new infections, bringing the total caseload to 880,782. With 110 new virus-related deaths, the pandemic’s corpse count here rose to 6,613.

On July 5, Malaysia received 1 million doses of Pfizer from the United States, which is giving away its excess vaccines.

NATO continuing its Defense Education Enhancement Program to ANDSF
[KhaamaPress] The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO
...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. A collection of multinational and multilingual and multicultural armed forces, all of differing capabilities, working toward a common goal by pulling in different directions...
) in a statement announced that its military education to Afghan National and Defense Security Forces will not stop and will be pursued through Defense Education Enhancement Program (DEEP).

NATO will continue its long-standing contribution to the sustainment of Afghan military institutions, the statement read.

The DEEP initiative of NATO has been carried out on the leadership level and works through three pillars namely curriculum development, faculty development and institutional assistance.

NATO in its statement has considered its Executive Senior Leaders’ Seminars series as one of the most successful components which has had impressive results over time.

The program has both been carried out at the level of ministers of all defense sectors of Afghanistan and within the Marshal Fahim National Defense University based in Kabul.

Modern teaching methodology is another component of NATO’s led DEEP initiative which has brought together military experts of allied countries to exchange experience in this regard with Afghan participants.

20 Afghan instructors from Marshal Fahim National Defense University have attended the program in the past three years.

NATO member states along with US has pledged to continue supporting, financing and training Afghan National Defense and Security Forces after foreign troops’ full withdrawal from Afghanistan.

Mark Lavin provides a transcript of Dick Lamm's 2003 'Plan to Destroy America' (video)
We had this in 2006, but it seems worth reviewing again in light of current conditions since then.
[Gov Lamm's 2003 speech] We know Dick Lamm as Governor of Colorado. In that context his thoughts are particularly poignant. Last week there was an immigration overpopulation conference in Washington, DC, filled to capacity by many of America's finest minds and leaders . A brilliant college professor by the name of Victor Davis Hanson talked about his latest book, 'Mexifornia,' explaining how immigration - both legal and illegal - was destroying the entire state of California. He said it would march across the country until it destroyed all vestiges of The American Dream.

Moments later, former Colorado Governor Richard D. Lamm stood up and gave a stunning speech on how to destroy America .

The audience sat spellbound as he described eight methods for the destruction of the United States. He said, 'If you believe that America is too smug, too self-satisfied, too rich, then let's destroy America . It is not that hard to do. No nation in history has survived the ravages of time. Arnold Toynbee observed that all great civilizations rise and fall and that 'An autopsy of history would show that all great nations commit suicide.'

Ship of the line Poltava arrives in St. Petersburg for Navy Day
Direct Translation of the article via Google Translate. Edited.
[REGNUM] The 54-gun ship of the line "Poltava" arrived in St. Petersburg, the Department of Information and Mass Communications of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation reported on July 16.

The ship, an exact copy of the battleship of the Russian Imperial Navy of the Peter the Great era, stood in the center of St. Petersburg in the roadstead between the Palace and Troitsky bridges.

"The task of towing the sailing ship was carried out by the tugs of a detachment of support vessels of the Leningrad naval base," said the commander-in-chief of the Russian Navy, Admiral Nikolai Evmenov.

"The ship perfectly illustrates part of the history of the Russian fleet, which turns 325 this year," he stressed.

Let us remind you that this is a copy of the 54-gun battleship of the fourth rank, launched on June 15 (26), 1712 from the slipway of the St. Petersburg Admiralty and built with the direct participation of Peter the Great.

As reported by IA REGNUM , the Main Naval Parade will be held in St. Petersburg on July 25, the Day of the Russian Navy.

Afghanistan
Kandahar Airstrike ‘Aborted’ Over Pakistan’s Warning: Sources
[ToloNews] Sources say that an operation by three A29 aircraft of the Afghan Air Force on Taliban
...Arabic for students...
targets in Spin Boldak, Kandahar, on Thursday, was aborted after "receiving warning" from Pakistain’s forces.

A conversation a copy of which was sent to TOLOnews by government sources shows that Afghan Air Force was warned that they are getting "closer to the border," but an Afghan military official claims that they were warned not to get closer as much as 18 kilometers to the international border point in Chaman and Spin Boldak.

A military analyst said that military aircraft should not get as close as 10 nautical miles (18.5 kilometers) to another country’s border when conducting an operation based on international laws.

This comes as First Vice President Amrullah Saleh in a tweet on Thursday said that "Pakistain air force has issued an official warning to the Afghan Army and Air Force that any move to dislodge the Taliban from Spin Boldak area will be faced and repelled by the Pakistain Air Force."

He said that "Pakistain air force is now providing close air support to Taliban in certain areas."

But Pakistain’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement said that it rejects "allegations" by First Vice President Amrullah Saleh and says it took "necessary measures within its territory to safeguard our own troops and population."

"The Afghan side conveyed to Pakistain its intention of carrying out air operation inside its territory opposite Chaman Sector of Pakistain. Pakistain responded positively to the Afghan Government’s right to act in its territory," the ministry said.

It added: "In spite of very close border operations normally not acceded to by internationally accepted norms/standards/procedures, Pakistain took necessary measures within its territory to safeguard our own troops and population."

"We acknowledge Afghan Government’s right to undertake actions on its sovereign territory," the statement said. "However,
we can't all be heroes. Somebody has to sit on the curb and applaud when they go by...
as alleged by the Afghan Vice President, Pakistain Air Force never communicated anything to the Afghan Air Force. Such statements undermine Pakistain’s sincere efforts to play its part in an Afghan-owned and Afghan-led solution."

In response to the statement by the Pak government, Saleh in a tweet called the statement "a statement of denial" and "a pre-written paragraph."

This also comes two days after Taliban fighters claimed that they had seized control of the Spin Boldak crossing area between Afghan and Pakistain territory.

Spin Boldak crossing is one of the key strategic locations in Kandahar province, which is adjacent to Pakistain.

Video released by the Taliban on social media showed the group's white flag flying in place of Afghanistan’s national flag above the Friendship Gate.

This new development takes place as Pakistain has announced that it will hold a peace conference on Afghanistan in the coming days.

The meeting was originally scheduled for July 17. But it was postponed due to a trip by prominent Afghan politicians to Doha where they are set to meet with Taliban leaders about ending the current conflict.

The Taliban recently seized some other major border crossings, in Herat
...a venerable old Persian-speaking city in western Afghanistan, populated mostly by Tadjiks, which is why it's not as blood-soaked as areas controlled by Pashtuns...
, Farah, and Kunduz provinces.

California legislature approves $35 million guaranteed income program
[JustTheNews] The unanimously approved plan will be the first of its kind in the country
No mention in the article, and presumably in the bill, about where the money is to come for funding this. Which should make California’s current debt even more interesting for the ever fewer taxpayers in the state.
Lawmakers in California, on Thursday, approved the first state-funded guaranteed income plan in the country.

The plan will allot $35 million for monthly cash payments going to qualifying pregnant women and young adults who recently left foster care. There will be no restrictions on how the recipients spend the money.

The measure passed unanimously in the state House and Senate, illustrating bipartisan support for the measure.

"If you look at the stats for our foster youth, they are devastating," said Republican state Senate leader Scott Wilk. "We should be doing all we can to lift these young people up."

Guaranteed income programs are gaining popularity across the country as cities in Florida, Louisiana, Washington and California move to implement them for families and individuals in need.

The newly passed program in California will be organized through local governments, which will apply to the state Department of Social Services to receive funding. Local officials will determine the size of the monthly payments, which have mostly ranged from $500 to $1,000 a person.

Rojava hands over 16 ISIS-affiliated children, women to Belgium
[Rudaw] Kurdish authorities in northeast Syria (Rojava) handed over 16 Belgian children and their mothers to Brussels on Thursday, the region’s foreign affairs office told Rudaw English. They are family members of Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(ISIS) fighters.

"They are ten children and six women, who are their mothers," the office said on Friday, adding that the group has arrived in Belgium.

This handover came during a visit to Rojava on Thursday by a Belgian delegation, led by Eric De Muynck, head of the Syria dossier at foreign ministry.

De Muynck met with Abdulkarim Omar, head of Rojava’s Foreign Relations Commission, thanking his administration "for the assistance provided to ensure the return of these ten young Belgian children and their mothers to Belgium."

The Belgian foreign ministry estimated in December 2020 that 73 of its citizens were in the camps, Cherchari said — 14 men, 21 women, and 38 children.
"My government is continuing to look at how we can provide additional humanitarian support in northeast Syria, including by providing medical equipment in the fight against COVID-19 and support to de-radicalization project, with children as a priority," added the Belgian official.

The Belgian nationals were living at the notorious al-Hol camp in Hasaka city, where nearly 60,000 ISIS-affiliated people are held. Most of the residents of the camp are children.

Kurdish and US officials have made repeated calls on the international community to repatriate their nationals, but only a few countries have responded positively. Most are worried about security concerns and are generally limiting repatriations to children.

There are fears that al-Hol camp is a breeding ground for terrorism.

General Kenneth McKenzie, commander of US Central Command (CENTCOM), told the American Enterprise Institute in a webinar in late April that children in al-Hol "are being radicalized, and unless we find a way to repatriate them, reintegrate them and de-radicalize them, we're giving ourselves the gift of fighters five to seven years down the road, and that is a profound problem."

Belgium foreign ministry spokesperson Marie Cherchari told Rudaw English in March that Brussels would soon expand its repatriation of children from al-Hol and the smaller camp Roj because their security situation has "deteriorated."

"The change in policy is based on the reality on the ground. The security situation has tanked," Cherchari said.

The Belgian foreign ministry estimated in December 2020 that 73 of its citizens were in the camps, Cherchari said — 14 men, 21 women, and 38 children. Thirteen of the women will be eligible for repatriation, Cherchari explained. Nine of the women have been sentenced by Belgian courts, and four are subject to international arrest warrants.

-Short Attention Span Theater-
The Oil Patch Warrior of WWII, Newark, England
[AtlasObscura] THE OIL PATCH WARRIOR IS an evocative bronze statue which commemorates the 42 American oil drilling roughnecks who, during World War II, traveled to the famous Sherwood Forest in Nottinghamshire, England, to expand what was, in 1943, the United Kingdom’s only productive oilfield. This was at a time when the country was desperate for oil because of the regular losses of oil tankers to U-boats in the Battle of the Atlantic.

The drillers came from both Oklahoma and Texas and were all volunteers. Their companies had agreed to carry out the work at cost price. The drillers traveled across the Atlantic without incident on the HMS Queen Elizabeth in March 1943, but of their four drilling rigs, sent separately by cargo vessels, one was lost to a U-boat attack. The mission was kept top secret at the time.

While in the U.K., they were accommodated at Kelham Hall, an Anglican monastery at the time, now home to the recently relocated Duke’s Wood Oil Museum, which tells the story of this secret operation.

By drilling 106 wells (of which 94 were productive) between March 1943 and March 1944, they were able to increase the oilfield’s output from 300 barrels per day to 3,000 barrels per day, making a massive contribution to the war effort. The total added wartime production to the field was 1.2 million barrels and the field continued production up to 1965, helping the country’s post-war recovery. The total output from the field from 1939-1965 was 47 million barrels.

Of the 42 Noble Drilling Company and Fain-Porter Drilling Company employees who traveled to England, 41 returned to the U.S. in 1944 but one, Texan derrick-hand Herman Douthit, was killed in a fall from a drilling derrick and became one of only 32 civilians to be buried in the American Military Cemetery near Cambridge (plot c, row 5, grave 21). Fittingly, he was buried with full military honors.

IDF says drone crashed in Lebanon due to malfunction, no data leaked
[IsraelTimes] Military says incident occurred during ’routine activities’ along the border; it comes days after a military surveillance UAV crashed in West Bank town.

An Israeli military drone crashed in Lebanese territory on Friday due to a technical malfunction, the military said.

The Israel Defense Forces said the incident was being investigated and added that no sensitive information had been lost due to the crash and there was no risk of intelligence being taken from the device.

"During routine activities, an IDF drone fell in Lebanese territory due to a technical malfunction," the army said in a statement.

There was no immediate information on Lebanese media as to the location of where the drone fell or images identifying the model.

Small, off-the-shelf models used for simple reconnaissance missions are the types of drones that fell in previous similar incidents along the Lebanese border.

Such drones, which are relatively cheap, crash or are brought down in Leb

Strip — at a frequency of once every few months.

On Wednesday, an IDF-operated Elbit Skylark — a larger surveillance UAV — fell in the Paleostinian West Bank town of Tubas. It was later retrieved by soldiers, a military spokesperson said.

Israel is technically at war with Lebanon, where it has fought two wars — one in 1982 against Paleostinian Lions of Islam who had established a base of operations in the country and one in 2006 against Hezbollah.

Lebanon regularly complains about Israeli surveillance drones invading its airspace, but the IDF maintains that such incursions are necessary to track the illegal activities of Hezbollah, which the Lebanese government is meant to keep in check.

The ParisClub of official creditors agree to cancel $14 billion owed by Sudan
[PUBLISH.TWITTER]

The Gay Paree Club of official creditors has agreed to cancel $14 billion owed by Sudan and restructure the rest of the more than $23 billion it owes, Gay Paree Club chairman Emmanuel Moulin said on Friday.

Speaking after the deal was reached on Thursday, Moulin urged Sudan's other private and public creditors to grant the country debt relief on the same terms.
For the latest headlines, follow our Google News channel online or via the app.

Sudan became eligible for relief after the International Monetary Fund accepted it last month into the Highly Indebted Poor Countries (HIPC) initiative based on a commitment to macroeconomic reforms.

The Gay Paree Club agreement cancels $14.1 billion outright and reschedules $9.4 billion with grace periods long enough that Sudan does not have to make payments before 2024, Moulin said.

"This significant effort demonstrates the international community's support to Sudan's democratic transition and will help Sudan to re-engage with the international financial community, pursue its reform policies and fight poverty," Moulin
said.

At $23.5 billion, Sudan's Gay Paree Club debt -- much of it consisting of arrears and late payment penalties -- makes up a large chunk of the more than $56 billion the country owes to foreign creditors overall.

"We will seek similar or better results with creditor countries outside the Gay Paree Club. This is a successful start," Sudan’s Finance Minister Gebreil Ibrahim said on Twitter.
The Times of Israel adds:
Sudan’s overall foreign debt is estimated at $70 billion. The Gay Paree Club, a group of 22 nations that lend to governments in need, urged other lenders to provide similar debt forgiveness.

Friday’s announcement came after the International Monetary Fund announced a $1.4 billion debt relief package for Sudan last month, and La Belle France canceled Sudan’s $5 billion debt in an effort to support the country’s transitional leadership and help its crippled economy.
That’s $19.1 billion cancelled (27% of 70 billion total), $9.4 billion rescheduled (13%), and $1.4 billion of “debt relief (2%)”, whatever that means, if I didn’t miss anything. That’s 43% of the total debt impacted, and more to come, because President Trump changed the parameters of the negotiation.
Sudan’s joint military-civilian government that has ruled the African country after a popular uprising has taken a series of bold steps to try to revive a battered and distorted economy where smuggling is rife. That’s included floating its currency, starting to address heavy government subsidies, particularly on fuel, and seeking investment from international donors.

Sudan became an international pariah after it was placed on the United States’ list of state sponsors of terror in the 1990s.

Former President Donald Trump
...dictatorial for repealing some (but not all) of the diktats of his predecessor, misogynistic because he likes pretty girls, homophobic because he doesn't think gender bending should be mandatory, truly a man for all seasons......
removed Sudan from the blacklist after the transitional government agreed to pay $335 million in compensation for victims of attacks carried out by the late Osama bin Laden
...... who is now neither a strong horse nor a weak horse, but a dead horse......
’s al-Qaeda network while the terror leader was living in Sudan. The removal also was an incentive for Sudan to normalize ties with Israel.
$335 million plus a peace treaty with Israel (which can always be hudna’d later, should the situation change) in return for $29.9 billion and more — plus Israeli advice, aid, and investment in rebuilding Sudan’s infrastructure? The return on Sudan’s investment is a three-bagger, as that famours investment guru used to say.

-Land of the Free
Freedom Phone: 'Uncensorable' device that protects user's privacy, political voice from Big Tech
[JustTheNews] Founder Erik Finman cites the marketing tagline that encapsulates his new device's inspiration: "The Freedom Phone: finally a phone that won't put your voice on silent."

Erik Finman, the youngest Bitcoin millionaire, has created the Freedom Phone, which protects users' privacy while promoting free speech and preventing censorship.

The 22-year-old founder told the John Solomon Reports podcast that with the Freedom Phone he was "basically creating something that is 'unbannable,' that is 'uncensorable,' that isn't reliant on, you know, the Apple or Google app stores or ... left-wing infrastructure."

The Freedom Phone has "its own app store, which has all the apps your phone normally has, plus banned ones as well," Finman said. "And we feature apps that promote free speech and promote patriotism. And you know, we put a huge focus on privacy features, as well."

The Freedom Phone runs on Android but completely gutted of Google, with added security features to protect users' data from Big Tech.

"[W]e built it on top of Android, so that way you can have all the apps you have, but we Hillary-Clinton-acid-washed all the Google stuff out and really went top to bottom," Finman explained. "It was a dirty job, but we got rid of all that junk out ... because we wanted you to be able to still run on traditional apps, like if you have a banking app, or if you have a ADT security or whatever, and all that, plus have the banned ones, as well."

Finman had created a startup with $100,000 he made off of Bitcoin cryptocurrency and moved to Silicon Valley before selling the company and moving to Florida, where he then started the Freedom Phone.

Finman saw the increasingly brazen viewpoint discrimination practiced by Big Tech as both social injustice and market opportunity: "I just saw the problem that, you know, they say, 'Oh, well, you know, if you don't like getting banned off pretty much every mainstream social media platform, create your own.' And then you know, you see, 'Hey, we created our own with Parler, amongst others, and then they got banned' ... and that's terrible."

The pro-free speech Parler social media app was taken offline by Amazon Web Services, Apple and Andriod app stores following the Jan. 6 Capitol breach. Parler has since been added back onto the Apple App Store.

The Freedom Phone is centered around conservatives "because if I made it less conservative-centric, I would have to compromise on what the ultimate vision and purpose of this phone is, which is to get people ... out there and expanding and get people the truth," Finman explained. "That's the real goal. And I think, you know, if it was just security-encryption-centric, I wouldn't be able to get people the truth the same way."

Declaring that "the most powerful tool that we all have is our right to have a voice," Finman explained how safeguarding those voices is what ultimately inspired the Freedom Phone. "[T]hey can ban software," he acknowledged, "but hardware, with its own uncensorable app store and privacy — you know, one of the cheesy marketing lines that we say is ... 'The Freedom Phone: finally a phone that won't put your voice on silent.'"

-Great Cultural Revolution
Foolish schools going for woke — lagging US kids need 3 Rs, not race theory
[NYPOST] A majority of American fourth- and eighth-graders can't read or do math at grade level, according to the Education Department. And that assessment is from 2019, before the learning losses from pandemic school closures.

Whenever someone asks me about Critical Race Theory

...teaches that skin color is the most important characteristic of any person, which translates to separate but equal with a different bunch in charge. All whites and Asians are born racist and racism permeates every aspect of society, which should be dismantled and the remains turned over to the kind of dipshit who pushes this nonsense...
, that statistic comes to mind. What's the priority, teaching math and reading, or turning elementary schools into social-justice boot camps?

Given that black and Hispanic students are more likely to be lagging academically, it's a question that anyone professing to care deeply about social inequality might consider. Learning gaps manifest themselves in all kinds of ways later in life, from unemployment rates and income levels to the likelihood of teenage pregnancy, substance abuse and involvement with the criminal-justice system. Our jails and prisons already have too many woke illiterates.

Wealthier parents will make sure their kids receive a decent education, even if it means using private schools or hiring tutors. But the majority of children are relegated to the traditional public-school system, where progressives now want to prioritize the teaching of critical race theory. In addition to being a horrible idea, the timing couldn't be worse. As the country rapidly diversifies — for more than a decade, US population growth has been driven primarily by Asians and Hispanics — liberals want to teach children to obsess over racial and ethnic differences.

What could go wrong?

Recently, the nation's two largest teachers' unions, the National Education Association and the American Federation of Teachers, announced that they had jumped on the bandwagon. At its annual meeting earlier this month, the NEA adopted a proposal stating that it is "reasonable and appropriate for curriculum to be informed by academic frameworks for understanding and interpreting the impact of the past on current society, including critical race theory." More, the organization pledged to "fight back against anti-CRT rhetoric" and issue a study that "critiques empire, white supremacy
...the pernicious doctrine that laws were intended to be obeyed, that society works better when people don't pour shrieking from their places of worship every Friday for a weekend of rioting over insults real or imagined; and that cannibalism, bestiality, incest, murder, theft, rape, and similar activities are bad. A Dead White European (which invalidates his opinion) philosopher once opined that societies thrive when a person's word can be relied upon, and that a society which puts individual happiness first will invariably fail. Strangely enough, other successful societies, such as China, Japan, Korea, and those kinds of places could also be lumped with white supremacist societies, since they push the same values...
, anti-Blackness, anti-Indigeneity, racism, patriarchy, cisheteropatriarchy, capitalism, ableism, anthropocentrism, and other forms of power and oppression at the intersections of our society."

There was no proposal vowing to improve math and reading test scores, alas.
Look on the bright side: When the schools turn out no one with even rudimentary reading and writing skills, they won't be able to put all those stoopid ideas on paper anymore. A golden age will ensue, until somebody reinvents writing.

Arabia
Saudi Smashes Covid Fraud Ring ahead of Hajj
[AnNahar] Saudi Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. Fifteen of the nineteen WTC hijackers were Saudis, and most major jihadi commanders were Saudis, to include Osama bin Laden. Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman quietly folded that tent in 2016, doing terrible things to the guys running it, and has since been dragging the kingdom into the current century...
has arrested more than 120 people suspected of supplying or procuring fraudulent coronavirus (aka COVID19 or Chinese Plague)
...the twenty first century equivalent of bubonic plague, only instead of killing off a third of the population of Europe it kills 3.4 percent of those who notice they have it. It seems to be fond of the elderly, especially Iranian politicians and holy men...
vaccine and test certificates, official media said Thursday, two days before a tightly controlled hajj.

The state-run SPA news agency said nine health ministry officials are among the accused, who have all pleaded guilty.

Some 60,000 Saudi residents with vaccine certificates will join this year's religious pilgrimage, the second time the gathering has been massively curtailed because of the pandemic.

The suspects in the fraudulent certificates case are alleged to have used social media to advertise their services.

These included changing infection status, vaccination status and whether one dose or two had been administered, SPA reported.

Twenty-one people -- nine Saudi citizens and 12 residents -- are accused of acting as intermediaries in the fraud.

Those accused of using the illicit services are 76 citizens and 16 residents.

Saudi authorities announced in July that two health ministry officials were among several suspects arrested in a similar conspiracy to change coronavirus data illegally.

A criminal investigation was begun into that case, but the number of suspects has not been disclosed.

More than 21 million coronavirus vaccine does have been administered in the Gulf nation of 34 million people, according to health ministry data published on Thursday.

On Wednesday the ministry announced 1,226 new cases and 14 deaths, bringing the total number of infections to 504,960 and the cumulative corpse count to 8,020.

Only the vaccinated will be able to enter government buildings, educational establishments or entertainment venues or use public transport as of August.

And only vaccinated workers in both the public and private sectors will be allowed to return to the workplace.

Afghanistan
Dostum Urges Govt to Support Local Forces Under His Command
[ToloNews] Former vice president Marshal Abdul Rashid Dostum
...ethnic Uzbek warlord who distinguished himself fighting the Soviets and the Taliban. The story that he had a bad guy run over with a tank is an exaggeration. It was an armored personnel carrier...
on Friday urged the central government to ensure the delivery of sufficient support and equipment to public uprising forces under his command in the fight against the Taliban
...mindless ferocity in a turban...
Talking to a gathering of his supporters via phone, Dostum said the government so far has not provided sufficient support to these forces.

Dostum also persuaded the Taliban to return to negotiations and said they should not get excited by taking over districts.

"The morale of the boys is very high," said Dostum, referring to the forces under his command.

"Unfortunately, poor management of the war has led to this situation," said Dostum, referring to fall of distircts.

He also expressed his dismay over what he described it government’s unwillingness to hear his military advices.

The National Islamic Movement of Afghanistan party led by Dostum organized a gathering in Kabul where speakers urged the government to provide sufficient aid to public uprising forces.

"When the Taliban firstly appeared in the northern part of the country, their presence was not too much strong in villages and vicinities and cities, they should have been suppressed at the time, because they had not a good spirit for war," said Kanishka Turkistani, a member of the National Islamic Movement of Afghanistan.

Meanwhile,
...back at the palazzo, Don Smilzo looked for an avenue of escape. The only window opened a hundred feet above the moat. The nearest of the hired assassins hold a bloody axe.
The window was looking better all the time....

Ata Mohammad Noor, head of the splinter faction of Hizb-e-Islami and former governor of Balkh, announced the formation of a command center for public forces under his command and urged them to avoid commuting inside the city.

"You shouldn’t interfere into the affairs of the people, their legal and judicial issues, avoid walking around in the city, stay in your bases, you will be asked for service whenever there is a need for," Noor told his fighters.

Government Corruption
Andrew Cuomo's campaign pays for sex-harass lawyer despite his claims
[NYPOST] Gov. Andrew Sonny Cuomo
...Dem dynastic governor of Noo Yawk, the son and heir of the late Mario Cuoma and formerly married to a Kennedy. Acclaimed for his leadership during the COVID epidemic, he managed the nation's highest corpse count while successfully hiding the returns and writing a book praising himself. Among the nation's horniest politicians, he has about a dozen allegations of sexual harrassment and groping against him. Noo Yawk's politix being what they are, he is still hanging tough, waiting to ride it out....
used campaign cash to pay nearly $285,000 in bills from the lawyer defending him against sexual harassment allegations, according to documents filed Friday — despite publicly claiming he wasn’t doing so last month.

Although Cuomo told news hounds on June 2 that he wasn’t spending political donations on his legal fees "at this time," his campaign paid $173,098 to former US Justice Department official Rita Glavin that very same day, according to an official filing with the state Board of Elections.

"Andrew Cuomo for New York" had earlier paid Glavin’s firm, Glavin PLLC, $111,774 on May 3, according to the filing, which says the spending was for "professional services."

Cuomo hired Glavin as the sexual harassment scandal against him mounted, and she spoke in defense of him when the New York Times

...which still proudly displays Walter Duranty's Pulitzer prize...

reported on March 19 that a female aide had accused him of ogling her, commenting on her looks and making suggestive remarks to her and a female colleague.

During the June 2 news conference that followed the revelation Cuomo sold his coronavirus (aka COVID19 or Chinese Plague)
...the twenty first century equivalent of bubonic plague, only instead of killing off a third of the population of Europe it kills 3.4 percent of those who notice they have it. It seems to be fond of the elderly, especially Iranian politicians and holy men...
memoir for $5.1 million, the three-term Democrat defended his decision to have taxpayers pay his legal bills in connection with separate probes into his handling of nursing homes amid the pandemic.

Caribbean-Latin America
Florida Democrat slams AOC for Cuba statement
[NYPOST] A recently-ousted House Democrat is slamming Rep. Alexandria Boom Boom Ocasio-Cortez
Dem Congressgirl from da Bronx in Noo Yawk and leader of the Mean Girl Caucus in Congress. One of the Great Minds of the 21st Century, she is known as much for her innaleck as for her dance moves. She is all in favor of socialism, even though she's fuzzy on the details. She was the inventor of the Green New Deal, though she doesn't talk about it much anymore...
over her stance on the US’ Cuba embargo amid ongoing protests in the Communist dictatorship.

Former Rep. Debbie Mucarsel-Powell, who lost in November to Rep. Carlos Gimenez (R-Fla.) in a closely watched race, tweeted Thursday that Ocasio-Cortez’s (D-NY) defense of lifting what she called an "absurdly cruel" embargo was "not correct."

AOC wrote in her statement Thursday that, "We are seeing Cubans rise up and protest for their rights like never before. We stand in solidarity with them, and we condemn the anti-democratic actions led by President Diaz-Canel.

"The suppression of the media, speech and protest are all gross violations of civil rights," she added before turning her focus to the embargo, which has been in place since 1962.

The "Squad" politician went on to argue that the embargo was responsible for "the US contribution to Cuban suffering."

"The embargo is absurdly cruel and, like too many other US policies targeting Latin Americans, the cruelty is the point. I outright reject the Biden crime family administration
...knaves, footpads, and adjusters employed by the Biden Crime Family. They leave a trail of havoc everywhere they turn their attention, be it the nation's borders, the Keystone XL Pipeline, or epidemics, sometimes on purpose, most times through sheer arrogant ineptitude. They learnt this stuff in college, you know...
’s defense of the embargo. It is never acceptable for us to use cruelty as a point of leverage against every day [sic] people."

"No. This is not correct," Mucarsel-Powell, who served in the House for a single term, wrote in response.

"It’s the failed policies of a communist regime that has violated human rights
...which are usually entirely different from personal liberty...
, imprisoned & killed dissidents."

"Cuban ppl [sic] — young & old — are risking their lives to rise up, we must listen to them," she added, "This is a matter of national security. The US must act," she continued.
