Biden Says He Can't Wait To Find Out Who He Picked For VP
[Babylon Bee] ccording to sources in the Biden campaign, the presidential candidate is on pins and needles waiting to see who it is he picked to run for vice president on his ticket.

Campaign aides say it's been Biden's most anticipated event since he found out he was running for president a few weeks ago.

A reporter asked Biden if he could hint about his VP pick during a brief interlude from his stay in the basement, where he was allowed to come upstairs to get some snacks.

"Oh boy -- I hope it's a real classy broad," he said as he drank straight from the milk jug. "I bet I picked somebody good and smart. A chick with class and style. You know, in my day, dames were dames and guys were guys. None of this 'guys becoming dolls' and 'dolls becoming guys' stuff. We would go down to the hop and do the mashed potato. You know, there's lots of good nnnn-- nutrients and stuff in potatoes. Potato is a funny word."

"Po - ta - to."

"OK, Joe, let's go," said an aide, shoving him down into the basement. "What Joe was trying to say is that he's chosen a well-qualified candidate who will run the country -- err, I mean, help him run the country -- with excellence."

The Jerusalem Post reports hundreds injured.

A massive explosion rocked Beirut on Tuesday and a tall plume of smoke could be seen from a distance. The explosion took place at the Beirut Port. According to Lebanese media, ambulances were transporting hundreds of injured people to local hospitals and dozens may have been killed in the incident.

Multiple videos from the area showed a plume of smoke rising from near the coastline and then a large blast and shockwave. Buildings throughout the area were damaged in the blast. The Daily Star newspaper, for example, released a video from its offices showing extensive damage.

There were at least 11 bodies found inside the port and contact was lost with a firefighting crew and a number of port employees, according to Lebanese reports. The Secretary-General of the Kataeb Party was critically injured in the incident, according to Al-Hadath.

According to the Daily Star, two explosions were reported at the port.

The source of the explosion was unclear. LBCI Lebanon News claimed that a fire had broken out at the port and then triggered an explosion of a nearby warehouse storing fireworks. According to the Hezbollah-affiliated Al-Mayadeen news, the explosion occurred in a warehouse storing benzine, a flammable chemical. Sources from Hezbollah told OTV Lebanon that there was "no truth" to reports that the explosion was caused by an Israeli strike on Hezbollah weapons at the port. Israeli defense officials denied that Israel had any connection to the incident.

#17  Blast apparently caused by explosive materials seized from ship, stored at port

[IsraelTimes] After conflicting initial reports, Lebanese officials are now suggesting that the explosion was caused by highly explosive confiscated materials rather than fireworks.

Director-General of Lebanon Public Security Abbas Ibrahim says: “The storage area contained highly explosive materials confiscated years ago. To discuss fireworks is laughable.”

“I can’t predict what the investigation will reveal about the reasons for the explosion,” Ibrahim adds.

Local media reports the materials were seized off a ship and stored at a warehouse at the port.

“What we saw looked like Hiroshima or Nagasaki. It’s absolutely unprecedented in Lebanon’s history,” says Beirut governor Phillip Boulos.

Taking Down Richmond's Robert E. Lee Statue Just Got A Bit Harder
[HotAir] A judge on Monday dissolved one injunction preventing Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam’s administration from removing an enormous statue of Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee in Richmond but immediately instituted a new one in a different lawsuit.

The new 90-day injunction issued by Richmond Circuit Court Judge W. Reilly Marchant bars the statue’s removal while the claims in a lawsuit filed by a group of Richmond property owners are litigated.

Virginia Attorney General Mark Herring has filed a motion to dismiss the property owners’ case, which has not yet been acted on by the judge, according to Herring’s spokeswoman.

Chief Rabbi Yotzhak Yosef: Whoever endangers others must bear his guilt
[Arutz 7] - Israeli Coronavirus Czar Prof. Roni Gamzu met Tuesday with Sephardic Chief Rabbi Yitzhak Yosef to consult with him on halakhic issues related to the fight against the coronavirus.

After the meeting, the Chief Rabbi and Prof. Gamzu issued a joint statement in which they implored the public to obey the instructions of the Health Ministry and other relevant authorities.

At the beginning of their joint statement, they highlight the health dangers and the need to tighten the guidelines for "dealing with the corona epidemic that has claimed many victims, young and old, healthy and sick."

"Our Torah is the Torah of life, and commands us very strongly to protect our lives, and the Torah also said, and to live by it, and as the sages extrapolated in Tractate Yoma 85:B: and not to die by it," the statement continued.

...Rabbi Yosef and Prof. Gamzu both declared that it is an obligation to wear a mask in public spaces and inside synagogues, as well as to maintain social distancing and to avoid large crowds.

Regarding people who experience symptoms such as difficulty breathing, fever, cough or the loss of smell and taste, the two stated that "it is an absolute obligation for them to be tested and it is strictly forbidden for a person to judge his own condition and endanger others."

"As I have already written in regards to the Health Ministry guidelines, according to the halakha, whoever puts others in danger, it is possible that someone will be murdered by his hand, and he will bear his guilt," Rabbi Yosef said.

President Trump fires TVA chair, cites hiring of foreign workers
WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump said Monday that he had fired the chair of the Tennessee Valley Authority, criticizing the federally owned corporation for hiring foreign workers.

Trump told reporters at the White House that he was formally removing chair Skip Thompson and another member of the board, and he threatened to remove other board members if they continued to hire foreign labor. Thompson was appointed to the post by Trump.

The TVA was created in 1933 to provide flood control, electricity generation, fertilizer manufacturing and economic development to the Tennessee Valley, a region that was hard hit by the Great Depression. The region covers most of Tennessee and parts of Alabama, Mississippi and Kentucky as well as small sections of Georgia, North Carolina and Virginia.

Trump also removed board member Richard Howorth, another presidential appointee.

Trump also urged the TVA board to immediately hire a new chief executive officer who "puts the interests of Americans first." According to the president, the current CEO, Jeff Lyash, earned $8 million a year.

"The new CEO must be paid no more than $500,000 a year," said Trump, who lacks the authority to remove the CEO. "We want the TVA to take action on this immediately. ... Let this serve as a warning to any federally appointed board: If you betray American workers, you will hear two words: ’You’re fired.’"

#4  Since part of the TVA's mission is alleviating poverty in the region, hiring foreign workers is a violation of its mission. Paying someone $8 million a year could go into 80 well-paying jobs that would do more to spur economic development than that one person -- especially since they likely don't even live in the area.
Posted by: Rob Crawford || 08/04/2020 9:51 Comments || Top||

#5  But Republican Sen. Lamar Alexander of Tennessee said the TVA doesn’t get any taxpayer money. Commenting on the issue in April, Alexander said the White House was spreading misinformation. He said that TVA chief executive officers’ pay is lower than other large utilities and that TVA energy rates are among the lowest in the nation.

Arabia
Barakah: UAE starts up Arab world's first nuclear plant
[BBC] The United Arab Emirates has launched operations at the Arab world's first nuclear power plant, on the Gulf coast just east of Qatar.

Nuclear fission has begun in one of four reactors at the Barakah plant, which uses South Korean technology.

The plant was due to open in 2017 but start-up was delayed for what officials said were safety requirements.

The oil-rich UAE wants Barakah to meet a quarter of its energy needs, as it adopts more sustainable energy sources.

Just two weeks ago the UAE sent a probe on a mission to Mars - another high-profile scientific first for the Gulf nation.

The UAE is also investing heavily in solar power - a plentiful energy source in the Gulf. Some energy experts question the logic of Barakah, arguing that solar power is cleaner, cheaper and makes more sense in a region plagued by political tensions and terrorism.

Last year Qatar called the Barakah plant a "flagrant threat to regional peace and environment". Qatar is a bitter regional rival of the UAE and Saudi Arabia.

A Depressing Journey Into The Decline and Fall Of American Gov't Under The Influence of Barrack Hussein Obama
[ABYSSUS ABYSSUM INVOCAT / DEEP CALLS TO DEEP] The New Old Obama Why is Barack Obama reemerging with greater frequency now? There are a few reasonable suppositions.

By Victor Davis Hanson

In his latest incarnation as president emeritus and corporate multimillionaire community activist, we are reminded of the earlier Barack Obama of "get in their face," "take a gun to a knife fight," and "punish our enemies" vintage. From time to time, Obama ventures from his hilltop, seaside, $12 million "you didn’t build that" Martha’s Vineyard Estate or his tony Washington, D.C. $8 million "spread the wealth" mansion to lecture the nation on all of its racist sins, past and present.

In these outings, he seeks to advise lesser folk on how we can still find redemption (make Puerto Rico a state?), given that his own eight years as president apparently proved that the United States remains hopelessly captive to the spirit of Bull Connor and that a president such as himself—starting out with complete control of the Congress—had no power to change much.
His latest weaponization of the funeral of John Lewis revealed all the Obama signature characteristics.

Fantasy Obama knows that the Trump Administration’s use of federal marshals to protect a federal courthouse in Portland from nonstop street efforts to burn it down, along with its occupants, is not analogous to the Democratic Alabama Governor George Wallace, an honored speaker at the 1972 McGovern-run Democratic convention: "[Wallace] may be gone, but we can witness our federal government sending agents to use tear gas and batons against peaceful demonstrators."

He knows that such protesters in our major cities loot, burn, blind, maim, and occasionally kill people and are hardly "peaceful."He knows that asking for an ID at the polls, in the fashion of cashing a check, buying a beer, or getting a prescription filled is not racist (unless he believes that minorities are currently deprived of prescriptions, alcohol sales, or cashing checks), and are not "restrictive," much less do they attack "our voting rights with surgical precision, even undermining the Postal Service in the run-up to an election that’s gonna be dependent on mail-in ballots so people don’t get sick."

He knows that if there are voting irregularities in November, they will come mostly from the Left and through the very mail-in balloting and vote harvesting they advocate. We in California’s 21st Congressional District can attest to that, after having witnessed winner and incumbent Republican David Valadao in 2018 see his sizable lead mysteriously erode over the next several weeks as batches of harvested and mail-in ballots steadily appeared until his challenger won by a few hundred votes.

ZOA calls on HIAS to sever ties with Hamas-linked organization
[Jpost] IRW has been labeled a terrorist organization by Israel, as well as other nations and banks, due to its funding and ties of Hamas, a regional Iranian catspaw, and the Moslem Brüderbund.

The Zionist Organization of America (ZOA) called on the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society (HIAS)
...since 2002 they’ve concentrated on non-Jewish refugees while keeping the name for fundraising purposes...
to sever its ties with an Islamic relief organization linked to Hamas.

This call to end the partnership came after recent revelations regarding Heshmat Khalifa,
...born in Egypt, he has been a British citizen since 2005...
the trustee and director of Islamic Relief Worldwide (IRW),
...the “charity” arm of the Muslim Brotherhood in Britain, it has received millions of pounds from the British government’s Department for International Development and six-figure sums from the Obama government, while Israel and the UAE have banned it for forwarding funds to Hamas...
and his posts on social media that have been labeled antisemitic and inciteful.

"IRW director Khalifa called Jews the 'grandchildren of monkeys and pigs'; called Egypt’s president a 'Zionist pimp'; and praised Hamas as 'the purest resistance movement in modern history,'" ZOA said in a statement on its website.

Though Khalif has since resigned, his antisemitic posts are "merely the tip of the iceberg," ZOA stated, adding that IRW has been labeled a terrorist organization by Israel, as well as other nations and banks, due to its funding and ties of Hamas and the Moslem Brüderbund.

Other nations that have called out IRW for their ties to terrorist organizations include the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Bangladesh, Germany and Sweden. In addition, the US Justice Department and USBC and UBS Banks have both called out the organization as well.

This partnership between HIAS and IRW began in 2018 to aid Moslem migrants colonists entering Greece. This partnership has continued in the following years.

According to ZOA, this may in part be due to 99% of HIAS refugee clients being non-Jewish, with most of them being Moslem. "However,
some people are alive only because it's illegal to kill them...
HIAS’s resettlement of Moslem and other non-Jewish refugees can be done without partnering with the terror-tied Islamic Relief," ZOA stated.

Plugs’ running mate may be KGB/Cuban-Intelligence Founded Venceremos Brigade agent
[Townhall] "In the mid-1970s, California Congresswoman Karen Bass, who is now under consideration to be Joe Biden’s running mate, was an organizer for the Venceremos Brigade... An event blurb in an October 1975 issue of the communist Daily World newspaper describes Bass, then 22, as "leader of the Venceremos Brigade in southern California....As a ’brigadista’ and then organizer for the Venceremos Brigades, Karen visited Cuba every 6 months." (Tablet magazine, 7/28.)

In that heady Age of Aquarius hundreds of starry-eyed college kids were volunteering to "help build Cuban Socialism" and "fight U.S. Imperialism," mostly by joyfully cutting Cuban sugar cane and raptly imbibing communist propaganda lectures while seated in front of large pics of Che Guevara and "Uncle" Ho Chi Minh.

In fact, the terrorist offshoot from the SDS (Students for a Democratic Society) known as The Weathermen and staffed most famously by Barack Obama’s future "neighbors" Bill Ayers and Bernadine Dohrn served as the DGI’s (Cuban Intelligence) U.S. recruitment officers at the time, which proved easy. Castro’s DGI and their KGB masters had other goals in mind, as we’ll see in a minute.

Okay, that Karen Bass was a very enthusiastic and active Venceremos Brigadista, we’ve already established. But was there more to these Venceremos Brigades? Perhaps a declassified FBI report (from well before the bureau was run by people by Comey, I might add) might help:

It was not uncommon to find bodies dumped in the streets who were Batista's enemies. What replaced Batista was worse than Batista. Batista fled Cuba during the Cuban revolution with an amassed fortune. The Castro brothers, Che and others came into power. They proceeded to get rid of enemies and suspected enemies before firing squads and by other means. Castro was far worse than Batista which is not saying much. They went about exporting their revolution into Africa and South and Central America.

Democrats' ‘War Game' for Election Includes West Coast Secession, Possible Civil War
[Breitbart] Democrats are contemplating secession and potential civil war as they game out possible scenarios for a closely contested election, according to a report by Ben Smith in a New York Times column Sunday.

The bulk of Smith’s column is devoted to the question of how the media will handle Election Night coverage, given that the result may not be known for weeks. Vote-by-mail, which many states have only recently adopted — ostensibly, to prevent the spread of coronavirus in polling places — could lead to an uncertain result.

However, buried near the end of Smith’s column is a report that Democrats have participated in a "war game" in which they considered several possible outcomes of the election.

In one scenario, John Podesta — the former chair of Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign, and a leading figure in party circles — played former Vice President Joe Biden, and refused to concede the election.

The result: the threat of secession by the entire West Coast, followed by the possible intervention of the U.S. armed forces:

Macomb County morgue buried in scandal after penis cake shows up at office
[Detroit Free Press] In the same week that George Floyd was killed, a cake decorated with a Black penis on it showed up in the conference room at the Macomb County Medical Examiner's Office.

Not only was the cake offensive, says one investigator, but it highlighted a chronic problem at the morgue that has now cost three employees their jobs.

The Macomb County morgue is buried in scandal involving allegations of all sorts: Employees mocked Blacks inquiring about loved ones' deaths, hung pornography in the office, bullied women who complained and recently brought in a birthday cake frosted with male genitalia art for fun, according to a formal complaint.

Europe
Time For Tough Love For The Euroweenies
It's Kurt
[Townhall] Eventually, you need to kick your loser kid out of your basement, cut-off his allowance, and introduce him to the harsh realities of the real world. In the case of our European allies, particularly the insufferable Germans, that time was about 20 years ago. Well, Donald Trump just announced we will be pulling out 12,000 troops of the 36,000 still deployed there — think of the good they could do for America deployed in Portland! — and the krauts and the Establishment are livid. Good.

Think of it as tough love for the Euroweenies.

Trump came to office with a foreign policy that the Establishment hates, embracing a Jacksonian perspective that holds that the purpose of our diplomacy and our military power is to promote America’s interests. It’s not to promote other countries’ interests, and it is not to make it so our Foggy Bottom Irregulars don’t encounter uncomfortable conversations at Berlin cocktail parties.

It’s to serve American interests, and for too damn long our Establishment has failed to do so by looking the other way as rich Europeans, year after year, skated on the check while Bush and Obama obligingly reached for our wallets. Trump proposes to end dine n’ dash diplomacy, and normal people can’t understand why we allowed it to happen in the first place.

For too long we have been taken advantage of by Teutonic freeloaders who were more than happy to cut their defense spending to the bone while allowing us to make up the difference. The Germans ended conscription, let their once-formidable military rust, and refused to keep their promise to put a measly 2% of their mammoth GDP into protecting their own country. They have gone from an aggressive invader-repelling Arminius to a wimpy Colonel Klink perpetually asking to borrow an infantry brigade combat team today for which he would gladly pay us Dienstag.

COVID-19: Scientist claims coronavirus created in military lab, not in wet market
[EconoTimes] Ever since its outbreak in Wuhan, China back in December of 2019, scientists have been trying to look into the origins of COVID-19 with several theories as to where the virus came from. According to a leading scientist, the virus that is COVID-19 reportedly came from a military lab and not from a wet market.

Express reports Dr. Li Meng Yan, a virologist at Hong Kong’s School of Public Health, who went to the United States, claimed that the coronavirus strain that is currently plaguing the world today actually came from a military lab in China. Speaking on a live stream interview on Taiwan’s News Agency Lude Press, she said, "At that time, I clearly assessed that the virus came from a Chinese Communist Party military lab. The Wuhan wet market was just used as a decoy."

She also noted that her colleagues all dismissed the suspicion when she consulted with them. Dr. Li-Meng then explained that by that time, it would be impossible to do something against the Communist Party. "I knew that once I spoke up, I could disappear at any time, just like all the brave protesters in Hong Kong. I could disappear at any time, even my name would no longer exist," said the expert.

The virologist then noted that she was born and raised under the Communist Party’s regime, and thus knew what they could and would do to citizens who showed dissent. Dr. Li-Meng then committed to revealing more about the inner-workings of the Beijing government and the COVID-19 pandemic in the hopes of the outside world understanding what the Communist Party’s regime is all about while helping the Chinese people overthrow them.

Meanwhile, among the theories of where COVID-19 came from animals which eventually spread to humans. Scientists in Europe are currently looking into that theory with a study, with certain animals such as minks. This follows as an outbreak in mink farms in Spain and the Netherlands. Experts believe that the outbreak began in mink farms with infected workers in those farms passing the virus onto smaller animals.

In Spain, 14 staff members of a mink farm were reported to be infected, including the farm owner. When operations were closed out of safety concerns, two more of its staff members tested positive for COVID-19.

New York's failure to use emergency hospitals is another reason to distrust government healthcare
[Washington Examiner] I have a lot of fears in life: sharks, heights, wrinkles, government controlling my healthcare.

Recently, the New York Times provided plenty of fodder supporting the latter anxiety, revealing the results of a study it conducted that examined the disparities between public and private healthcare at the height of the pandemic in New York City. The disparities included staffing levels, differences in the age and type of equipment available, and access to drugs and experimental treatments. As one might guess, patients at the city's community facilities fared far worse than those in private facilities, with their mortality rate 3 times higher in some cases.

All hospitals saw higher staff-to-patient ratios than best practices would recommend. In a typical emergency room, that figure should look like 1 nurse for every 4 patients. But during COVID-19, private facilities experienced ratios closer to 1 nurse for every 6 to 7 patients. At the government hospitals, that number was 1 nurse for every 10 to 15, and at times even 20 patients.

Less time per patient meant fewer tests, less information, and less monitoring. Several patients woke up from medically induced comas and, in confusion, removed their oxygen masks, leading to death. This occurred at the Elmhurst Hospital in Queens, where staff referred to the patients as "bathroom codes" as their bodies were typically discovered near the bathroom 30 to 45 minutes later. One doctor told the New York Times that for every 10 deaths he saw, two to three patients could have been saved with the proper care.

You might not think it could get worse, but it does. In response to the overcrowding, the city quickly put up makeshift hospitals. We now know those facilities were barely used. The paper looked at the hospital set up at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center to study why this occurred. Though the center was equipped with 470 beds and hundreds of employees (many of them out-of-state healthcare providers being paid handsomely), it ultimately saw only 79 patients and closed its doors after one month. It was a catastrophic failure, the kind only government can pull off.
Most were paid by their home employers but Grandma Killer Cuomo made sure they paid NY taxes
There were multiple problems here. First, doctors were forced into a spiderweb of red tape upon arrival. They were given ridiculous amounts of paperwork, orientations, and training on computers, tying up their time during the height of the disease.

Zimbabwe continues arrests of critics, says opposition party
[Al Ahram] Zim-bob-we's military and police are arresting scores of opposition members and activists after authorities thwarted an anti-government protest last week, according to rights groups.

More than 60 people have been arrested so far in the continuing clampdown, said Zim-bob-we Lawyers for Human Rights, which is providing lawyers for the arrested people. Last week internationally known author Tsitsi Dangarembga was arrested for a peaceful protest and spent a night in police cells before being released on bail.

Zim-bob-we's main opposition party, the MDC Alliance, says dozens of its officials have been arrested or have gone into hiding. If state agents do not find the person they want to arrest, they often vandalize their homes and harass their relatives, said opposition front man Tendai Biti.

Human rights groups accuse President Emmerson Mnangagwa's administration of clamping down on dissent under the guise of enforcing anti-COVID-19 lockdown rules.

The Zim-bob-wean police and government officials have repeatedly denied allegations of human rights
...which are often intentionally defined so widely as to be meaningless...
abuses, saying those arrested or being sought by the police were inciting people to revolt against Mnangagwa's government.

On Monday, a judge postponed until Thursday a bail hearing for Hopewell Chin'ono, an investigative journalist who has been in jail for two weeks on accusations of mobilizing the foiled protests.

Another investigative journalist, Mdudzuzi Mathuthu, prominent for reporting on alleged government corruption linked to purchases of COVID-19 personal procurement equipment and drugs, is in hiding.

``I am hiding like a rat in my own country for doing nothing more than my job,'' Mathuthu told The News Agency that Dare Not be Named Monday.

``Journalism is just a job, but in Zim-bob-we it can be a matter of life and death. They have not only come just after me, but my family as well,'' he said.

Iraq
Iraqi forces arrest 6 ISIS terrorists in Nineveh province
[EN.ALGHADEER.TV] Iraqi Interior Ministry issued a statement on Monday saying that the Ministry of Intelligence and Counter-Terrorism forces have arrested six ISIS turbans in different parts of Nineveh province under Article 4 of the Terrorism Act.

These elements admitted that they had participated in several operations against Iraqi security forces and civilians during the occupation of the province by ISIS.

The ISIS terrorist group still has a number of cells in the northern, eastern and southern regions of Iraq and has intensified its attacks on Iraqi civilians and security forces in the past two months which has been unprecedented since 2017. Hashed al-Sha’abi forces (PMF) and the Iraqi Army have carried out more than 60 military operations against turbans during this period.

Afghanistan
Taliban Violated Eid Ceasefire 38 Times: MoI
[ToloNews] The Ministry of Interior Affairs (MoI) says the Taliban
...mindless ferocity in a turban...
violated the ceasefire 38 times during the three days of the truce, killing at least 20 civilians and wounding 40 others.

The ministry said in a statement on Monday that the Taliban violations included terrorist attacks, offensive attacks and mine explosions that were conducted in 10 provinces.

The Taliban has not commented on the data.

The Interior Ministry’s information indicates that the Taliban conducted 19 blasts, 15 shellings, two ambush attacks on security forces, killing three people and abducting six others.
Idle hands being the Devil’s playthings, it’s probably just as well they were keeping themselves busy.
"This is against the commitments that the Taliban often make to reduce violence," Interior Ministry front man Tariq Arian said.

Despite that, more than 20 provinces have not witnessed security incidents during the three days of Eid (July 31 to August 2).

"We have registered six incidents of violence of ceasefire in Helmand
...an Afghan province populated mostly by Pashtuns, adjacent to Injun country in Pak Balochistan...
in three days of Eid," Helmand governor Yasin Khan said.

The Afghan government on Monday stressed the need for a continuation of the ceasefire and said the Taliban is insisting on war and that they do not want ceasefire.

"We have always wanted ceasefire... For years, ceasefire has been a key issue for us in any attempt for peace, but, unfortunately, the Taliban has always insisted on violence," said Presidential front man Sediq Sediqqi said.

A day after the ceasefire on Monday, August 3, a mortar round hit a house in Bala Murghab district, Badghis province, killing three people — two children and a woman--and wounding five others, including four children, according to local officials. No group has grabbed credit for the shelling.

On the first day of Eid, on July 31, a kaboom in the city of Herat
...a venerable old Persian-speaking city in western Afghanistan, populated mostly by Tadjiks, which is why it's not as blood-soaked as areas controlled by Pashtuns...
maimed at least 14 people.

Taliban denied they violated the ceasefire and said they prevented the supply of aid to surrounded government forces and the establishment of new checkpoints.

Deadly Attacks Spark Fear of Daesh Resurgence
[ToloNews] The complex attacks in Pashtun-infested Logar and Nangarhar
The unfortunate Afghan province located adjacent to Mohmand, Kurram, and Khyber Agencies. The capital is Jalalabad. The province was the fief of Younus Khalis after the Soviets departed and one of his sons is the current provincial Taliban commander. Nangarhar is Haqqani country..
provinces claimed by ISIS have raised concerns about the resurgence of ISIS's activities, with analysts saying that some terrorist outfits have coordinated their attacks with the Taliban
...mindless ferocity in a turban...
as peace talks are nearing.

Analysts see foreign influence behind such attempts that apparently are aimed at disrupting the grinding of the peace processor.

The attacks in Pashtun-infested Logar and Nangarhar left dozens of civilians dead and maimed.

"We are not blaming Pakistain or other countries. We are blaming ourselves. We should become alert," said Abdul Rauf Shpoon, an MP from Nangarhar.

Critics said that some countries involved in Afghanistan’s war--and peace--are seeking to support other groups instead of the Taliban.

"ISIS is getting stronger based on two reasons: First, part of the bad boy Taliban is not joining peace and is joining al Qaeda. Second, these groups also continue the war because they are not part of the grinding of the peace processor," said Saleh Mohammad Registani, a military analyst.

"If the Taliban joins the government, then ISIS, Lashkar-e-Taiba
...the Army of the Pure, an Ahl-e-Hadith terror organization founded by Hafiz Saeed. LeT masquerades behind the Jamaat-ud-Dawa facade within Pakistain and periodically blows things up and kills people in India. Despite the fact that it is banned, always an interesting concept in Pakistain, the organization remains an blatant tool and perhaps an arm of the ISI...
and Jaish-e-Mohammad
...literally Army of Mohammad, a Pak-based Deobandi terror group founded by Maulana Masood Azhar in 2000, after he split with the Harkat-ul-Mujaheddin. In 2002 the government of Pervez Musharraf banned the group, which changed its name to Khaddam ul-Islam and continued doing what it had been doing before without missing a beat...
will replace them," said Ahmad Ali Hazrat, a former head of Nangarhar's provincial council.

"The Afghan government is fighting many terrorist groups. Our security and defense forces are ready to suppress any terrorist group that attempts any activity," Sediqqi said.

"The umbrella has been created by the Taliban. ISIS and other terrorist groups are using this opportunity," said Tariq Arian, a front man for the Ministry of Interior Affairs.

This comes as on August 1 the Afghan intelligence agency, the National Directorate of Security
...the Afghan national intel agency...
(NDS), said that it had killed Assadullah Orakzai, the head of intelligence for the Khorasan branch of ISIS.

The NDS said the ISIS commander was killed during an operation near Jalalabad city, the center of Nangarhar province.

[Guardian] Spain's former king Juan Carlos is to leave the country and go into exile abroad following a series of damaging allegations about his financial arrangements that have harmed the reputation of the monarchy and embarrassed his son, King Felipe.

In March Felipe stripped Juan Carlos of his annual stipend and renounced his own personal inheritance from his father after reports that he was in line to receive millions of euros from a secret offshore fund with ties to Saudi Arabia.

Iran strikes Kurdish opposition party base in Kurdistan Region territory
[Rudaw] Unmanned Iranian drones and artillery shells struck a number of bases belonging to a Kurdish opposition group in Erbil province on Monday, an official affiliated with the group confirmed, with no casualties reported.

"The unmanned drones targeted our bases with missiles causing no casualties," said official Kawa Bahrami.

Monday's shelling comes six weeks after both Iranian artillery and Ottoman Turkish drones struck Erbil province's Haji Omaran district bordering Iran — just days after The Sick Man of Europe Turkey

Since 2016, a number of the Iranian Kurdish parties including the PDKI have transferred their bases from populated areas of the Kurdistan Region to the border with Iran. The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has called on armed Iranian Kurdish opposition groups not to launch attacks against neighboring countries from Kurdistan Region territory.

Local civilian Fakhir Taha told Rudaw via telephone that "a number of cowherders who are out letting their animals graze are stuck."

Ibrahim Nadir, a cowherder who had put his animals out to pasture in Barbzin, told Rudaw via telephone that he saw "Iranian artillery shells hit a [KDPI's] base."

"I saw a vehicle leaving the base. I'm not sure if it was rushing out the injured or not," Nadir said.

"We're safe and sound, but scared of the artillery shelling. We're stuck in hiding," he added.

Mexico nabs ‘El Marro,’ fuel theft king blamed for surge in drug violence
[PUBLISH.TWITTER]
Known as “El Marro” (The Mallet), Yepez was arrested in the early hours of Sunday by soldiers and state officials during a raid on a house in Guanajuato, a central state that has become the main flashpoint of record gang violence, authorities said.

“This is a tremendously successful blow for the government,” said Raul Benitez, a security expert at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM).

Boss of the Santa Rosa de Lima Cartel, a Guanajuato-based outfit, Yepez has been engaged in a bloody struggle for supremacy in the state with the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), one of Mexico’s most powerful and violent gangs.

Yepez, 40, is the highest profile narco arrested so far under Lopez Obrador, who pledged to bring down record levels of violence plaguing Mexico when he took office in December 2018.

Instead, homicides have further increased, and last October, the Lopez Obrador administration suffered serious embarrassment when it botched the detention of Ovidio Guzman, a son of incarcerated kingpin Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman.

Guanajuato’s government said security forces captured Yepez and five other suspected gang members in a village called Franco Tavera in the Santa Cruz de Juventino Rosas municipality, a few miles north of where the Santa Rosa de Lima Cartel was born.

During the swoop on two buildings, soldiers freed a local businesswoman who had been kidnapped and seized a cache of weapons, including a grenade launcher, the Defense Ministry said.

Three people were found in the second property, including a sixth suspected gangster.

Al-Kadhimi set to internationalize the search for Kidnapped Yezidis
[EN.ALGHADEER.TV] Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi vowed to seriously search for the Kidnapped Yezidis and turn it into an international effort to return them to their families.

"Al-Kadhimi received a delegation of Yezidi survivors from Sinjar district, the village of Kuju and the surrounding areas," PM’s office said in a statement received by al-Ghadeer.

Al-Kadhimi recalled the brutal crime against the Yezidis on that fateful day, the third of August 2014, by the ISIS terrorist gangs, and the difficult conditions they lived in after occupying their areas and villages. "

The Prime Minister emphasized that "what happened to the Yezidis constituted an Iraqi pain that will not be repeated, a heinous crime that attracted the attention and sympathy of world public opinion, just as the whole world stood with their cause for the horrors they were exposed to."

Al-Kadhimi pledged to "seriously search for the Kidnapped Yezidi, and turn it into an international effort in order to return them to their families," stressing that "justice must take its course."

The third Monday of August marks the sixth anniversary of the attack by the terrorist organization ISIS against the Sinjar district and the surrounding areas, and its genocide against Yezidis there.

According to the Iraqi Ministry of Defense, ISIS women tried to infiltrate to the Iraqi territories through the villages of Rabia district in Mosul, but they were arrested with the assistance of intelligence forces.

The ministry said that these families tried to enter illegally in order to avoid prosecution.

“The men of those women are linked to ISIS terrorist gangs and fought against our security forces during the liberation battles and then fled to Syria,” the ministry statement reads.

Iraqi security forces said in an earlier statement that some desert areas near the Iraqi border with Syria are still used by ISIS sleeper cells.

Nevada lawmakers OK mailing voters ballots, Trump slams move
[Al Ahram] Nevada state politicians passed a bill Sunday that would add the state to a growing list of U.S. states that will mail active voters ballots ahead of the November election amid the coronavirus (aka COVID19 or Chinese Plague)
...the twenty first century equivalent of bubonic plague, only instead of killing off a third of the population of Europe it kills 3.4 percent of those who notice they have it. It seems to be fond of the elderly, especially Iranian politicians and holy men...
pandemic.

The bill now heads to Gov. Steve Sisolak, a Democrat. If he signs it as expected, Nevada will join seven states that plan on automatically sending voters mail ballots, including Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party, and Vermont, which moved earlier this summer to adopt automatic mail ballot policies.

President Donald Trump
...His ancestors didn't own any slaves...
called the bill's passage ``an illegal late night coup`` in a tweet Monday morning. He accused Sisolak of exploiting COVID-19 to ensure votes in Nevada would favor Democrats.

``Nevada's clubhouse Governor made it impossible for Republicans to win the state. Post Office could never handle the Traffic of Mail-In Votes without preparation ... See you in court!``

Trump has claimed the mail ballots would lead to fraud and compromise the integrity of the election. The consensus among experts is that all forms of voter fraud are rare.

Nevada Secretary of State Barbara Cegavske told politicians Friday that she wasn't aware of any fraud in the June primary, when Nevada mailed all active voters absentee ballots and only opened a limited number of polling places to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

Experts, huh? They just put a sentence like this in their article and think that proves it, like there can never be any doubt, without any supporting facts or evidence. Which experts? Who are these people and what methodology did they use to come to this conclusion, this consensus? How do these experts know so much? Because I think it's all bullshit. I think Democrats cheat and lie all the time and their allies in the media cover it up for them.

#7  Yeah, Germans were all in favor of throwing unwanted US occupiers off their territory - right up until Trump agreed with them. Then to avoid being on the same side, in a scene right out of 1984 they did a 180 and began bleating the opposite opinion, with no acknowledgement that they ever changed. Recovered from the memory hole:

"These bases are there for American power projection across the world. Your military bases are a logistics hub for operations in the Middle East and elsewhere. Ramstein Air Base is used for coordinating drone strikes. Landstuhl has the biggest US military hospital abroad. Germany is paying for that infrastructure. If you reduce the amount of troops, the ONLY country that is losing something from it is the US. Germany gets zero benefit from them except for economic stimulus for the towns where the bases are located."

"The sooner that the USA withdraw back to their own country, the sooner we can expect peace to retake the driving seat forward into the future. The very last thing we need is to continue with variants of the "Marshall Plan", which is what propelled the USA into the economic position it has found itself in for the last 50 years. "Yanks go home" should resonate with everyone in Europe - if not the entire world - if we are not to end up enslaved and subjugated by the greed that the USA is built upon."

"As a German, living in a city with a strong US presence, I notice that they drive up rents. Not being a landlord, I see no reason why they should not leave."

"You would be surprised how little the USA contribute to any of the countries in which they have military bases. Yes, a few "GIs" venture off base and spend a few dollars, but everyone else pays with the increase in prices local to those bases, just as everyone would pay dearly in the event of a situation happening which the USA might deem to launch military actions against some "enemy" of the other - everyone is a possible target then, from every side involved. A lose-lose situation for Europe, but a very profitable one for the US military equipment industry."

I could go on, but you get the idea. It was a very common sentiment before a couple of days ago when it changed.

#9  Maggie has it right at #7. To many people, if it's the Orange Man's idea, it can't possibly be seen as a good thing.

German rents around US military bases are driven by the Army or US Military housing allowances, pretty much the same as everywhere else. I don't blame the Germans.

Many places overseas have two prices, one for the locals and one for the well fed Americans. If you know that going in, then there should be no surprises.

UN plane botches landing in Mali, wounding 6

plane careened off the runway while touching down in the northern Malian city of Gao on Monday, officials said, injuring six people.

According to Abdoulaye Maiga, a witness to the accident who works for an airport-security company, the plane had to make an emergency landing, at which point it "left the runway".

An official with the UN peacekeeping force in Mali, known as MINUSMA, told AFP that at least six people had been hurt in the accident.

Another MINUSMA official, who declined to be named, said that the flight had left the capital city Bamako with seven Russian nationals aboard.

A photo circulated on social media on Monday, appearing to show a badly damaged white plane, bearing UN insignia, in a puddle of mud.

AFP did not independently confirm the image.

UN peacekeepers deployed to Mali in July 2013, after jihadists seized much of the north of the country the previous year.

The MINUSMA now has 13,000 troops in Mali, while La Belle France has 5,100 soldiers as part of Operation Barkhane, its anti-jihad force in the Sahel.

Despite the presence of thousands of foreign troops, the conflict has engulfed the centre of the country and spread to neighbouring Burkina Faso

Teenagers rescued from sexual slavery in Barisal
[Dhaka Tribune] Police, during a raid at a Barisal hotel on Monday, rescued two teenage girls reportedly from sexual slavery, as the girls were brought there with the promise of jobs about a month ago.Selim Chowkidar, Anwar Hossain and Belal Gazi-- all of whom are staffs of Hotel Payel in Barisal’s Chawkbazar-- were arrested in connection with the incident.

Acting on a tip-off,

police conducted a raid at the hotel in the early hours of Monday and arrested the trio, said Rabiul Islam Shamim, assistant commissioner of the detective branch of Barishal Metropolitan Police.

However,
the way to a man's heart remains through his stomach...
the owner of the hotel managed to flee.

The teenagers hailing from Jhalakathi and Barguna came to Barisal more than a month ago as the hotel staff assured them handsome salaries and a job in a private company, said Rabiul, quoting the girls.

The girls tried to escape after they were put into sexual slavery, but the hotel owner and staff confined them and kept them under round the clock surveillance.

Police filed a case against four people including the hotel owner and sent the girls for forensic tests.

12 pro-regime, 6 rebel fighters die in Syria clashes
[Al Ahram] Jihadists and allied rebels in northwestern Syria Monday killed at least 12 pro-regime fighters, thwarting their advance, a Britannia-based war monitoring group said.

Another 17 pro-regime fighters were maimed while on the jihadist-led side six fighters died, said the Britannia-based group Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

The forces loyal to President Bashar-al Assad had launched an attack with artillery and heavy gunfire in Syria's last major opposition bastion, said the war monitor.

But the jihadist Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, formerly al-Nusra, before that it was called something else
...al-Qaeda's Syrian affiliate, from which sprang the Islamic State...
(HTS) alliance, headed by ex-leaders of Syria's former al-Qaeda affiliate, and their allies reportedly thwarted the advance.

Four HTS and two other rebel fighters were killed in the festivities in a rural area of Latakia province, the monitor said.

The HTS-led alliance also controls large areas of Idlib province and slivers of territory in neighbouring Aleppo and Hama.

The region they hold is home to some three million people, nearly half of whom have been displaced from other parts of the country.

Syria's nine-year-old war has killed more than 380,000 people and displaced nearly half of the country's pre-war population.

The rebel-held area is a regular target of attacks by regime forces and their Russian and Iranian allies.

Afghanistan
Jalalabad Prison Secured After 18 Hours, 8 Attackers Killed
Yesterday’s attack finally repulsed. Well done, guys!
[ToloNews] Nangarhar
The unfortunate Afghan province located adjacent to Mohmand, Kurram, and Khyber Agencies. The capital is Jalalabad. The province was the fief of Younus Khalis after the Soviets departed and one of his sons is the current provincial Taliban commander. Nangarhar is Haqqani country..
local security officials on Monday said the attack on a prison and an adjacent shopping plaza in PD4 of Jalalabad city ended on Monday after nearly 20 hours with the death of 10 attackers.

At least 29 people were killed and 50 were maimed during the fighting, officials said.

Emal Niazi, Nangarhar's police chief, said that both the prison and the shopping plaza close to the prison were cleared of attackers and the area is under security forces control.

The Defense Ministry said in a statement 10 attackers were killed, five prisoners were killed by the attackers and six others maimed. Meanwhile,
...back at the barn, Bossy was furiously chewing her cud and thinking...
40 families in a nearby building were rescued, 1,025 prisoners were also rescued, the ministry said.

According to the ministry, two security force members were also killed in the attack.

The attack began when a jacket wallah detonated a vehicle full of explosives at the entrance gate of the prison in PD4 of Jalalabad city at 6:44 pm on Sunday.

Following the blast, the attackers began fighting security forces in the prison and the nearby shopping area.

Hours before the attacks ended, the Afghan chief of army staff, General Yasin Zia, arrived in the province to lead the operation in both areas himself.

Fawad Aman, deputy front man for the Defense Ministry, confirmed that the attack had ended.

Nangarhar governor’s front man Attaullah Khogyani also announced the attack on Nangarhar prison had ended, with "at least 29 people killed and 50 maimed."

There are unconfirmed reports that ISIS has grabbed credit.

The Taliban
...mindless ferocity in a turban...
denies involvement in the attack.

The attack began on the last day of the Eid ceasefire between the Taliban and the Afghan government.

CNN Happily Floats the Idea of Biden Skipping All Presidential Debates
[NEWSBUSTERS.ORG] MICHAEL SMERCONISH: Joe, if the president is watching this right now, I could see him rubbing his hands together and saying, oh, my God. That would be perfect because then I, of course, get to say he's afraid to get on the stage with me. It has to do with his cognitive abilities.

JOE LOCKHART: Yes. Well, he will say that. And I think as I wrote in the article it's worth the risk. This is a president who as I said in the article is incapable of telling the truth. He spins these conspiracy theories out there. And up until now most of those theories are broadcast by FOX News and, you know, on his Twitter feed. You know, most Americans don't see that.

The debates are very different. This is the one thing, now that we're not really going to have conventions where the public will tune in, you know, 50, 60 million people. And they will -- they will see all of this nonsense from him. He will take the truth and destroy it. And Biden will be in the position of correcting him over and over and over again. I don't think he should give him that platform.

Man charged in Philadelphia shooting that left 7-year-old boy fighting for his life
[NYPOST] A 7-year-old Philadelphia boy is clinging to life after he was shot in the head as he played on his front porch, police and distraught relatives said.

The boy, identified by his mother as Zamar Jones, was struck in the head by one of more than 12 shots that rang out late Saturday as he played outside with other children on his West Philadelphia block, police and neighbors told the Philadelphia Inquirer.

A gunman opened fire on a group of people who were standing outside at the time, two of whom fired back, police told the newspaper.

A nurse who lives nearby performed CPR on Zamar until cops arrived and took him to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, where he remained Sunday at death's door, the newspaper reports.

Zamar, who was shot on his porch near his toy race car and scooter, had lived on the block for several years and is well-known throughout the neighborhood, neighbor Makeeba McNeely said.

"He has best friends from the top of the block to the bottom of the block," McNeely’s 13-year-old daughter, Zion, told the newspaper.

The boy, who is about to begin second grade this fall, is known for his love of popsicles, his green scooter and his dog and cat, the McNeelys said.

"He’s a beautiful kid," McNeely said. "Inquisitive, curious — he’s a little boy. And he was playing."

One suspect has been arrested, while two others are still being sought early Monday, police said.

Christopher Linder, 27, is facing two counts of attempted murder and related charges in connection to the shooting and the alleged theft of a vehicle as he expeditiously departed at a goodly pace, Philadelphia District Atorrney Larry Krasner announced Monday.

"I join Philadelphians across the city in expressing sadness and outrage that senseless gun violence has once again caused grievous injury to a child," Krasner said in a statement. "Every kid deserves to live free of violence, harm or fear."

"At this time there is one person in jug," Philadelphia police said in a statement. "His information will be released upon completion of the investigation and/or formal charges."

Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw said in a statement department officials were "heartbroken" by the shooting, characterizing it as "especially tragic," WPVI reports.

"Although an individual has been taken into custody, that does not diminish the impact this senseless act has on the child, his family, and the entire community," Outlaw’s statement read.

"Criminal acts such as this have no place in our communities, and we are committed to securing justice and promoting healing for all who are affected."

The government said that such pro-Taliban propaganda should be stopped by these countries as it will harm the peace efforts in the country.

The photos shared on social media showed a group of people in Mellat Park in northern Tehran. A similar move was seen in Istanbul, Turkey.

"The grinding of the peace processor that the Afghan government and the people of Afghanistan are supporting should be supported in practice and they should prevent moves that could affect this process," said Gran Hewad, front man for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Critics said they consider this interference of the two countries in Afghanistan’s affairs, as such groups should not be allowed to show pro-Taliban propaganda.

"It is a clear interference in Afghanistan’s affairs. We have always said that they do not want Afghanistan to have an identity and a central government and have always been in favor of weakening the government," said Abdul Sattar Husaini, an MP.

Some Iranian media reported that the person who first broke the news about the pro-Taliban gathering in Mellat Park has been arrested by the Iranian government.

"Every war has its military and propaganda supporters. Such photos are taken to provoke people’s feelings," said Tariq Farhadi, a former presidential adviser.

Iran’s embassy in Kabul said the gathering in Mellat Park was "illegal" and conducted by Afghan citizens.

The issue is under investigation, the embassy said.

Records Of Prince Andrew's Location On Night Of Molestation Destroyed By Police
[MindUnleashed] Authorities have destroyed evidence that could have revealed where Prince Andrew was on the night that he is accused of having sex with a teenager.

According to a former member of the Royal guard who worked on Prince Andrew's security detail, The London Metropolitan Police have destroyed evidence that could have revealed where Prince Andrew was on the night that he is accused of having sex with a teenager that was being trafficked by Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell.

The night in question is March 10th, 2001, as well as the morning hours of March 11. Virginia Giuffre, who was known by the name Virginia Roberts at the time, says that she was taken to London by Epstein and Maxwell and was expected to have sex with Prince Andrew.

Giuffre says that she was just 17-years-old at the time and remembers being taken to the "Tramp" nightclub in London, as well as one of Maxwell's homes in the city.

Andrew was questioned about Giuffre's accusations during an interview with BBC, and he made numerous mistakes and fumbles that brought his credibility into question.

In the interview, Andrew vehemently denied knowing Giuffre and insisted that he was not at that nightclub on March 10th.

He claimed that he was at a Pizza Express location in Woking, for a party, but at least one other witness has come forward to corroborate Giuffre's claim. The witness says that she distinctly remembers seeing the prince at the nightclub on that evening.

There should be records of what the prince was doing on that evening, which would either exonerate him or prove that he was lying. Members of the royal family are regularly accompanied by police guards in their day to day activities and there are records of where and when the officers were sent, or at the very least a record of which officers worked on which day.

If these records were to be made available, the investigators could easily determine where Prince Andrew was on the night in question. Initially, police refused to release this information to the media, insisting that revealing such sensitive information about the royal family could be a "threat to national security."

One of the guards who was assigned to work Andrew's security detail on that night, remembers having an issue with the prince when he returned to Buckingham Palace.

He says that Andrew ended up making his return to the palace very late that night, but wanted to obtain the records to confirm that this was the same night.

A few months ago, the former guard requested to see his shift records from his time working Andrew's security detail. He got no response for months, but was eventually contacted by a caseworker with the London Metropolitan Police.

The caseworker told him that the records were destroyed, and said that it is the agency's policy to only keep records for two years, which is a bit of a strange policy in the computer age where files don't take up much space.

"I am very disappointed. Why on earth did it take nearly five months to respond with such a non-informative answer? I'm also surprised to discover that any records regarding the Royal family and their police protection are destroyed, much less after just two years," the guard told the Daily Mail.

Haftar asked Washington for help in controlling Libya's sea and land borders
[EN.ALGHADEER.TV] Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar
...Self-proclaimed Field Marshal, served in the Libyan army under Muammar Qadaffy, and took part in the coup that brought Qadaffy to power in 1969. He became a prisoner of war in Chad in 1987. While held prisoner, he and his fellow officers formed a group hoping to overthrow Qadaffy, so it's kind of hard to describe him as a Qadaffy holdover. He was released around 1990 in a deal with the United States government and spent nearly two decades in the United States, gaining US citizenship. In 1993, while living in the United States, he was convicted in absentia of crimes against the Jamahiriya and sentenced to death. Haftar held a senior position in the anti-Qadaffy forces in the 2011 Libyan Civil War. In 2014 he was commander of the Libyan Army when the General National Congress (GNC) refused to give up power in accordance with its term of office. Haftar launched a campaign against the GNC and its Islamic fundamentalist allies. His campaign allowed elections to take place to replace the GNC, but then developed into a civil war. Guess you can't win them all. Actually, he is, but slowly...
’s Libyan National Army (LNA) sent a message to Washington on Sunday calling for international control of land and sea border crossings and ports to prevent weapons from being sent to the capital’s government, Al Arabiya TV channel reported.

"The LNA insists on international control over land and sea terminals in order to prevent weapons from falling into the hands of the Government of National Accord [Prime Minister Faiz Saraj] and to prevent Ankara from transferring weapons and equipment to the country," the letter said to the US authorities.

It also notes that the army command refuses to sit at the same table with The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the decaying remnant of the Ottoman Empire...
during any possible negotiations in the coming period and "remains committed to the withdrawal of mercenaries and militias." In addition, the LNA notified that it would not agree with the entry of various types of gangs into state institutions, as planned by the Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
Cabinet of Ministers.

On Saturday, Haftar, during a scheduled review of the units under his control, confirmed "his determination to resist the Ottoman Turkish intervention." "The Turks stayed in Libya for 300 years, and the Libyans saw nothing but evil," Al Arabiya quotes him on Sunday.

"The expulsion of the colonialists is our main goal. We will not agree to be colonized again Enough of what has happened to us in the past. The army will teach a lesson to the mercenaries that Turkey sends to fight on the side of the Government of National Accord [GNA]. "

In Libya, for a long time, two executive bodies have existed in parallel: the NTC sitting in Tripoli and a temporary cabinet operating in the east of the country together with the parliament and supported by the LNA.

Over a year ago, the opposing camps unleashed battles for the country’s main city, after Haftar launched an offensive on the capital on April 4, 2019, with the goal of, as he said, freeing it from terrorists.

In response, the Tripoli cabinet of ministers officially turned to Turkey for help on the basis of a memorandum on military cooperation signed with it in November last year. With the active support of Ankara, the GNA managed to regain control over a number of territories seized earlier by the LNA. So far, all attempts to return the parties to dialogue, and the search for political solutions have not been crowned with success.

The gov't has all the money borrowed up and has destroyed the banking industry. Much like everything else the gov't touches, it turns to kak.

#5  When money is 'on call' from the Fed, why would they bother with thousands of depositors for capital? The purpose of the Fed was to mitigate the 'crashes' of the 19th Century only to see them preside over two Depressions of which they largely contributed. Sort of like the CDC was suppose to work in mitigating pan-epidemics not fumble the entire process.

#9  They were into Fanny Mae and Freddie Mae when the market collapsed. Hey, that's where the unreal return on investment was compared to Euro ventures. There was no legal obligation on the part of the government to bail any investors out. Bush & Co did just that at everyone's expense because, among others, the Euro banks would have failed.

Chicago-Area Leaders Call for Illinois to Abolish History Classes
[NBCCHICAGO] Rep. Ford Today in Evanston to Call for the Abolishment of History Classes in Illinois SchoolsConcerned that current school history teaching leads to white privilege and a racist society, state Rep. La Shawn K. Ford, D-reliably Democrat Chicago, aka The Windy City or Mobtown
...home of Al Capone, the Chicago Black Sox, a succession of Daleys, Barak Obama, and Rahm Emmanuel...
, will join local leaders today at noon at the Robert Crown Center in Evanston to call on the state to stop its current history teaching practices until appropriate alternatives are developed.

"When it comes to teaching history in Illinois, we need to end the miseducation of Illinoisans," Ford said. "I’m calling on the Illinois State Board of Education and local school districts to take immediate action by removing current history books and curriculum practices that unfairly communicate our history. Until a suitable alternative is developed, we should instead devote greater attention toward civics and ensuring students understand our democratic processes and how they can be involved. I’m also alarmed that people continue to display symbols of hate, such as the recent display of the Confederate flag in Evanston."

Attendees at Sunday’s presser will discuss how current history teaching practices overlook the contributions by Women and members of the Black, Jewish, LGBTQ communities and other groups. These individuals are pushing for an immediate change in history changing practice starting this school year.

"The miseducation of our children must stop," said Meleika Gardner of We Will. "It is urgent that it comes to an end as we witness our current climate become more hostile. Miseducation has fed and continues to feed systemic racism for generations. If Black History continues to be devalued and taught incorrectly, then it will call for further action."

Evanston Mayor Steve Hagerty notes "As Mayor, I am not comfortable speaking on education, curriculum, and whether history lessons should be suspended. This is not my area. Personally, I support House Bill 4954 because I am interested in learning more and believe the history of Black people should be taught to all children and include all groups, Women, LatinX, and Native Indians who helped to build America."

Fifth Column
Seattle Police Chief Slams City Council After Activists Target Her Home
[DAILYWIRE] Seattle’s Chief of Police called on Seattle’s City Council to stand up against "mob rule" after "aggressive" activists reportedly targeted her home over the weekend, which scared her neighbors.

"I wanted to update you on recent events, particularly those that occurred late last night," Carmen Best wrote in a letter addressed to City Council President Lorena González and Public Safety Chair Lisa Herbold. "A residence of mine in Snohomish County was targeted by a large group of aggressive protestors late last night. My neighbors were concerned by such a large group, but they were successful in ensuring the crowd was not able to trespass or engage in other illegal behavior in the area, despite repeated attempts to do so. Currently, the local sheriff (not SPD resources) is monitoring the situation."

"I urge both of you, and the entire council, to stand up for what is right. These direct actions against elected officials, and especially civil servants like myself, are out of line with and go against every democratic principle that guides our nation," Best continued. "Before this devolves into the new way of doing business by mob rule here in Seattle, and across the nation, elected officials like you must forcefully call for the end of these tactics."

"The events of this summer were initiated in a moment of grief and outrage over the murder of George Floyd by Minneapolis coppers and so many other Black and Brown people suffering at the hands of injustice," Best concluded. "All of us must ensure that this righteous cause is not lost in the confusion of so many protestors now engaging in violence and intimidation, which many are not speaking against."
