In first fatalities of Lebanon ground op, 8 IDF soldiers killed in battles with Hezbollah
[IsraelTimes] Over 100 rockets, drones fired at Israel after multiple strikes in terror group’s Beirut stronghold overnight; IDF sends 36th Division into Lebanon, joining 98th Division

The IDF announced the first fatalities of Israel’s ground operation in Lebanon on Wednesday after eight soldiers were killed during battles against Hezbollah operatives in the south of the country.

The slain troops were named as:

Cpt. Eitan Itzhak Oster, 22, a team commander in the Egoz Commando Unit, from Modi’in.
Cpt. Harel Etinger, 23, a team commander in the Egoz Commando Unit, from Eli.
Cpt. Itai Ariel Giat, 23, of the Yahalom Combat Engineering Unit, from Shoham.
Sgt. First Class Noam Barzilay, 22, of the Egoz Commando Unit, from Kohav Yair.
Sgt. First Class Or Mantzur, 21, of the Egoz Commando Unit, from Beit Aryeh.
Sgt. First Class Nazar Itkin, 21, of the Egoz Commando Unit, from Kiryat Ata.
Staff Sgt. Almken Terefe, 21, of the Golani Brigade’s reconnaissance unit, from Jerusalem.
Staff Sgt. Ido Broyer, 21, of the Golani Brigade’s reconnaissance unit, from Nes Tziona.

The six Egoz commandos were all killed during a gun battle with Hezbollah operatives in a southern Lebanon village. Another officer and four soldiers were seriously wounded in the same incident. During the extraction of the casualties following the gun battle in a building, Hezbollah operatives fired mortars at the soldiers, wounding further troops.

The two soldiers of the Golani recon unit were killed in a separate incident, in which another soldier was seriously wounded.

In a third incident, a combat medic with the Golani Brigade’s 51st Battalion was seriously wounded.

An IDF probe into the deadly battle in which the six Egoz commandos were killed found that they began an offensive against a village near the border early this morning, where Hezbollah had infrastructure that the army was seeking to dismantle. The troops had entered a building in the village, where they then encountered a group of Hezbollah operatives and exchanged fire with them. Moments later, a series of other encounters began in the surrounding area, with dozens of Hezbollah operatives opening fire, firing anti-tank missiles, and launching mortars at the soldiers.

An Israeli Air Force drone carried out strikes and tanks shelled sites in the area amid the incident, and the wounded troops were all extracted and taken for medical treatment. In all, six Egoz soldiers were killed and another five were seriously wounded. Several others were also taken to hospitals for more minor injuries.

The IDF assessed that the troops, airstrikes, and tank shelling, killed more than 20 Hezbollah operatives in the area. Following the extraction of the wounded and at the end of the battle, the military said it gained control over the area where the fighting took place.

The IDF has been operating inside Lebanon since Monday night, when the 98th Division crossed over the border to demolish the terror group’s infrastructure with the aim of safely returning the tens of thousands of displaced Israelis to their homes in the north of the country.
Officially, anyway. Yesterday we saw reports that IDF soecial forces had been roaming the southern half of Lebanon since shortly after the 10/7 massacre, shaping the future battlefield in all sorts of quietly interesting ways.
It said on Wednesday that the 36th Division was also being deployed to Lebanon to assist the 98th with the “limited, localized and targeted raids” against Hezbollah targets and infrastructure, and shared footage of its entry into Lebanon overnight.

The IDF has said that it intends for the operations to end as quickly as possible and reiterated on Wednesday that any house used by the Lebanese terror group for military purposes would be a target. To that end, the military called for Lebanese civilians in two dozen villages in the south of the country to evacuate immediately, warning that it was preparing to act against Hezbollah in those areas.

“For your safety, you must evacuate your homes immediately. Anyone who is near Hezbollah operatives, their facilities or their weapons, puts themselves at risk,” Col. Avichay Adraee, the IDF’s Arabic-language spokesman, said in a statement on X. He warned civilians to head north and said that they would be updated when they can return.

The military issued similar orders the previous day to 28 other villages in southern Lebanon and has also warned against any movement of vehicles from the north of the Litani River to the south of it.

Sharing new footage of the 98th Division’s operations on Wednesday, the IDF said that the division had been engaged in close-quarters combat with Hezbollah operatives, and had been directing airstrikes on gunmen and the terror group’s positions. In one recent operation, the military said, the division’s Egoz commando unity destroyed a Hezbollah position, including a rocket launcher and a cache of explosives.

More than 150 Hezbollah sites have been hit so far by the Israeli Air Force, the military added.

In a statement of its own, Hezbollah said its fighters had been clashing with Israeli forces entering the border town of Maroun Al-Ras, and later asserted that it had “destroyed three Merkava tanks with rockets as they advanced towards the village.”

It also claimed that it had confronted Israeli forces “infiltrating” the Lebanese town of Odaisseh in the early hours of Wednesday, and forced them to retreat. Hezbollah operatives confronted “an Israeli enemy infantry force that tried to infiltrate into the village of Odaisseh… and clashed with them,” the statement claimed, adding separately that Hezbollah also targeted three different points across the border with rockets and artillery.

There was no immediate comment from the IDF on the claim.

The Iran-backed terror group said it had also targeted an Israeli unit with an explosive device near a southern border village, as it clashed with forces entering Lebanon.

“As the Israeli enemy army tried to sneak around the village of Yaroun… [Hezbollah] fighters surprised them by detonating an explosive device,” the terror group said, reporting Israeli casualties.

The IDF’s ground offensive began some two weeks into intensified fighting with Hezbollah, and after Operation Northern Arrows was launched earlier in September to meet the recently declared war goal of bringing residents of the north back to their homes following their evacuation last October under heavy rocket fire from the Lebanese terror group.

Alongside the ground operations, Hezbollah and Israel continued to exchange fire across the border on Wednesday, and sirens continued to blare periodically across northern Israel as the IDF said some 100 rockets were launched from Lebanon throughout Wednesday morning.

Some 40 rockets were launched from Lebanon at the Safed area, and 10 more were fired toward the Western Galilee and Haifa Bay area. In addition, the military said several drones launched at the Western Galilee were shot down by air defenses, and another drone impacted in the Upper Galilee. There were no reports of injuries in the attacks, although the municipality of Metula, which has been largely evacuated, said around 10 homes were damaged in one of the barrages.

Even as ground operations continued, the IDF’s Home Front Command announced that it was easing some restrictions in the north of the country. Other restrictions, including in other areas of the country, remained unchanged.

Strikes on Hezbollah targets in Lebanon have also continued, both in Beirut and in the south of the country.

The Lebanese army said on Wednesday that one of its soldiers had been injured in an Israeli drone strike as a unit worked to open a road at the entrance to the southern town of Kawkaba. In the hours leading up to Israel’s ground incursion on Monday night, Lebanese troops had pulled back about five kilometers from their positions along the border, apparently opting to stay on the sidelines, as they have done historically in major conflicts with Israel.

Strikes were also carried out overnight in Beirut’s southern suburbs — a Hezbollah stronghold known as Dahiyeh — after the IDF called for civilians surrounding three buildings to clear the area ahead of imminent strikes. An unnamed Lebanese security source told AFP early on Wednesday morning that “at least five Israeli strikes targeted Beirut’s southern suburbs.” Correspondents told AFP that they had heard multiple explosions and saw smoke rising in one area while a fire appeared to burn.

The military said on Wednesday that it had carried out several strikes in recent days against Hezbollah infrastructure situated throughout Beirut, and released footage of one such strike. It said that its fighter jets operated based on precise intelligence to strike “weapons production sites” and other terror infrastructure in and around Beirut.

It again stressed that it was taking steps to prevent harm to uninvolved civilians, including issuing advanced warnings to the population.

“The Hezbollah terror organization places its production sites and its weaponry under residential buildings in the heart of Beirut and endangers the population in the area,” the IDF said.

The strikes were separate from a number of targeted assassinations that Israel has carried out in the Dahiyeh suburb over the last two weeks against Hezbollah officials.

EVACUATION OF FOREIGN NATIONALS
Amid the escalating cross-border violence and the developing ground incursion, several countries have said that they are working to evacuate their citizens from Lebanon.

Both Spain and South Korea announced plans on Wednesday to evacuate their citizens from Lebanon, while Seoul said it was also working to bring those in Israel home. Spanish Defense Minister Margarita Robles said that Spain would be sending two military aircraft to evacuate as many as 350 citizens who wished to return to Spain as early as Thursday. South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol said that he had ordered military aircraft to be deployed immediately to evacuate its citizens from Israel and other parts of the Middle East, while the country’s foreign ministry urged citizens in both Israel and Lebanon to leave immediately by any means available. Government data for 2023 showed there were 572 South Koreans in Israel including permanent residents and Israeli passport holders and 214 in Lebanon.

The UK said on Wednesday that a charter flight taking British citizens out of Lebanon had departed and that more flights were planned for the coming days.

Slovakia also announced that it was preparing to evacuate citizens and other EU nationals from Lebanon and said it had approved the use of a military plane to deliver humanitarian aid. Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Croatia and Poland asked for cooperation in the evacuation of their citizens within the plan, the Slovak foreign ministry said.

Since October 8, Hezbollah-led forces have attacked Israeli communities and military posts along the border on a near-daily basis.

So far, the skirmishes have resulted in 26 civilian deaths on the Israeli side, and — excluding the soldiers killed in the ground operation — the deaths of 22 IDF soldiers and reservists. There have also been several attacks from Syria, without any injuries.

Hezbollah had named 516 members killed by Israel during the skirmishes, mostly in Lebanon but some also in Syria. Another 92 operatives from other terror groups, a Lebanese soldier, and dozens of civilians have also been killed. These numbers have not been consistently updated since Israel began its new offensive against Hezbollah in September.

Lebanon’s Health Ministry says more than 1,000 Lebanese have been killed and 6,000 wounded in the past two weeks, without specifying how many were civilians. Israel has said that many Hezbollah operatives are among the dead. The government says that one million people — a fifth of the population — have fled their homes.

#2  A Silver Platter
By Natan Alterman
And the land grows still, the red eye of the sky slowly dimming over smoking
frontiers
As the nation arises,
Torn at heart but breathing,
To receive its miracle, the only miracle
As the ceremony draws near,
It will rise, standing erect in the moonlight in terror and joy
When across from it will step out a youth and a lass and slowly march toward
the nation
Dressed in battle gear, dirty,
Shoes heavy with grime, they ascend the path quietly
To change garb, to wipe their brow
They have not yet found time.
Still bone weary from days and from nights in the field
Full of endless fatigue and unrested,
Yet the dew of their youth.
Is still seen on their head
Thus they stand at attention, giving no sign of life or death
Then a nation in tears and amazement will ask: "Who are you?"
And they will answer quietly,
"We Are the silver platter on which the Jewish state was given."
Thus they will say and fall back in shadows
And the rest will be told
In the chronicles of Israel

Food aid to Gaza falls as relief agencies dispute new Israeli customs rule
[IsraelTimes] Shipments from Jordan halted amid disagreements, while commercial food trade has also become restricted in recent weeks after Hamas found to be benefiting from arrangements
No mention in the article of the hundreds of millions of dollars Hamas has made this past year selling confiscated donations to Gaza’s residents, residents who have been trapped because Hamas would not allow them to leave. Nor of the Hamas warehouses packed to bursting with stolen food and goods because more has come into the Strip than the residents can consume. Both these situations have been reported, and quite probably drove the Israeli decision.
Food supplies to Gaza have fallen sharply in recent weeks because Israeli authorities have introduced a new customs rule on some humanitarian aid and are separately scaling down deliveries organized by businesses, people involved in getting goods to the war-torn territory told Reuters.

The new customs rule applies to truck convoys chartered by the United Nations to take aid from Jordan to Gaza via Israel, seven people familiar with the matter said. Under the rule, individuals from relief organizations sending aid must complete a form providing passport details, and accept liability for any false information on a shipment, the sources said.

They said relief agencies were disputing that requirement, which was announced mid-August, because they fear signing the form could expose staff to legal problems if aid fell into the hands of Hamas or other enemies of Israel.

As a result, shipments have not been getting through the Jordan route — a key channel in Gaza supplies — for two weeks. The dispute has not affected shipments via Cyprus and Egypt, the sources said.

In a parallel move, Israeli authorities have restricted commercial food shipments to Gaza amid concerns that Hamas was benefiting from that trade, the people familiar with the matter and industry sources said.

United Nations and Israeli government data show that in September, deliveries of food and aid sank to their lowest in seven months.

Israel’s civilian coordination agency for the Palestinian territories COGAT, which oversees aid and commercial shipments to Gaza, confirmed that no UN chartered convoy has moved from Jordan to Gaza since September 19, but a spokesperson said Israel was not blocking goods.

The spokesperson referred questions about the form dispute to Israel’s Economy Ministry. A ministry spokesperson did not answer Reuters’ questions. A spokesperson for the UN’s emergency response arm, the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), declined to comment. COGAT did not address specific questions about commercial shipments.

The twin restrictions, which had not been previously reported, have reignited concerns among aid workers that pervasive food insecurity will worsen for the 2.3 million Gazans in the war-battered Palestinian enclave, where Israel has been fighting the Hamas terror group for the past year.

“Lack of food is some of the worst it’s been during the war, these past weeks especially,” Nour al-Amassi, a doctor who works in southern Gaza, told Reuters by phone.

“We thought we’d been able to get a hold on it but it’s got worse. My clinic treats 50 children a day for various issues, injuries and illness. On average 15 of those are malnourished.”

The number of trucks carrying food and other goods to Gaza fell to around 130 per day on average in September, according to COGAT statistics. That is below about 150 recorded since the beginning of the war, and far off the 600 trucks a day that the US Agency for International Development says are required to address the threat of famine in wartime.

Israel has denied accusations that it has carried out a “targeted starvation campaign” in the Gaza Strip, and the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) in June found that its earlier assessment, which had warned that there would be famine by July, had been wildly inaccurate.

In May, International Criminal Court (ICC) prosecutors asked the court to issue an arrest warrant against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, saying they suspected Israeli authorities had used “the starvation of civilians as a method of warfare.”

Israeli authorities have denied this, saying they facilitate food deliveries to Gaza despite challenging conditions. In September, they filed two official challenges to the ICC, contesting the legality of the prosecutor’s request and contesting the court’s jurisdiction.

CHAOTIC ROUTES
During the war, aid to Gaza has been delivered through several different routes that have come in and out of operation, according to UN and Israeli officials.

The main route before the war was to southern Gaza via Egypt, after a detour for Israeli scans. But after the Rafah Border Crossing was closed in May at the start of an Israeli operation in the southernmost Gaza city, UN aid coming that way has slumped because insecurity made it increasingly difficult to organize, UN relief agencies have said.

In May, a US-led effort launched a pier to deliver humanitarian aid by boat, but the jetty was damaged by storms and abandoned in July. Some shipments that were earmarked for the pier at the time have yet to reach Gaza even after they were re-routed through the Israeli port of Ashdod, aid workers said.

Israel opened the Jordan route in December, allowing trucks to move directly from the Hashemite Kingdom to Gaza. UN and NGO aid workers say the Jordan corridor became the most reliable until the recent suspension.

Transportation via the route was helped after Israeli authorities agreed with Jordan to simplify customs procedures for humanitarian aid transported by UN agencies.

But in mid-August, COGAT informed UN relief agencies that this fast track had been revoked, the people familiar with the matter said. That generates additional costs and delays.

The new customs form is an extra headache, the sources said, adding the UN side had proposed an alternative and was hopeful Israel would accept it.

FALL IN COMMERCIAL IMPORTS
Compounding concerns about hunger in Gaza, the sources pointed to a recent drop in commercial supplies.

Commercial imports by Gaza-based traders made up the majority of the 500 trucks that entered the territory daily before the war.

Israel halted most of these supplies when war broke out, but allowed food imports to resume from Israeli territory in May, helping to augment the supply of fresh, nutritious products not contained in aid shipments, four Gazan traders and four UN officials said.

But commercial shipments have fallen from a daily average of 140 trucks in July to 80 in September, according to COGAT statistics. In the last two weeks of September, Gaza-based traders said the daily average fell even further, to a low of 45 trucks.

Israeli authorities actively promoted commercial supply since May, saying in June it was a more efficient alternative to UN aid.

But they changed tack after realizing that Hamas managed to levy taxes on some commercial shipments and seize the food, people familiar with the matter said.

IDF says it struck Hamas command centers embedded in disused Gaza schools
[IsraelTimes] Citing Hamas-run health ministry, Palestinian media reports 20 killed in strikes; IDF said to carry out early morning raids in Khan Younis neighborhoods

Israeli Air Force fighter jets struck Hamas command centers embedded in disused schools in the Gaza Strip in the early hours of Wednesday morning, the IDF said, as Palestinian media reported that some 20 people were killed and dozens more were injured in the strikes.

The military said that two of the command centers were located in schools in the northern part of the Palestinian enclave, while a third was embedded in a compound in central Gaza that had previously served as the Nuseirat Girls’ School.

Accusing Hamas of using the schools as a base to plan and carry out “terror attacks against IDF soldiers and the State of Israel,” the military said that the strikes had been guided by pinpoint intelligence.

It said that it had taken steps to mitigate civilian harm in the strikes, and accused Hamas of “systematically” using civilian sites for terror.

In the aftermath of the strikes, Palestinian media cited Hamas-run health authorities to report that 17 people had been killed at a former school in Gaza City, and three in the school in Nuseirat.

The IDF did not immediately comment on reports of civilian casualties.

The Hamas-run health ministry in Gaza has said that more than 40,000 people have been killed in the Strip throughout the last year of war between Israel and Hamas, although the toll cannot be verified and does not differentiate between civilians and fighters.

As of August, Israel said it had killed some 17,000 combatants in battle in Gaza, and another 1,000 terrorists inside Israel during Hamas’s massacre on October 7, 2023, which sparked the war.

Also on Wednesday, Israeli tanks were said to have advanced in areas of Khan Younis, in the south of the enclave. Palestinian media reported that the tanks carried out a raid on several areas in the east and center of the city, before partially retreating.

The Hamas-run health ministry said that some 51 people had been killed in the raids, and at least 82 were said to have been injured. The IDF did not immediately comment on the reports.

Residents in the Khan Younis area reported that heavy airstrikes had accompanied the raids into three neighborhoods in the city.

Meanwhile, the United Nations said on Wednesday that it was making preparations to start in mid-October a second round of polio vaccinations for some 640,000 children in the Gaza Strip.

UN Spokesperson Stephane Dujarric said in the announcement that vitamin supplements would also be distributed during the vaccination campaign.

The second round of vaccines is scheduled to begin following the successful first round back in August, which the World Health Organization said in September had seen more than 90 percent of children in the Strip receive a first dose of the vaccine.

World’s Jewish population hits 15.8 million, on eve of Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year
[IsraelTimes] Jewish Agency says 7.3 million Jews reside in Israel, 6.3 million in US; number of Jews worldwide has increased by 100,000 over the last year.

The remaining 2.2 million Jews live in other countries, with the biggest populations in France and Canada, with 438,500 and 400,000 respectively.

After Israel, the US, France and Canada, the 10 countries with the largest Jewish populations are the United Kingdom (313,000), Argentina (170,000), Germany (125,000), Russia (123,000), Australia (117,000), Brazil (90,300), South Africa (49,500), Hungary (45,000), Mexico (41,000), and the Netherlands (35,000).

The statistics, the agency said, are based on self-identification as Jewish and/or on having at least one Jewish parent and not belonging to another religion.

At least 6 said killed in central Beirut after IDF announces ‘targeted’ attack
[IsraelTimes] Israel also reportedly hits sites in Hezbollah stronghold of Dahiyeh where military issued evacuation orders; brother of slain Hezbollah commander said killed in Damascus strike

At least six people were killed in an Israeli airstrike in central Beirut early Thursday, Lebanese health officials said, after the Israel Defense Forces announced it was carrying out a “targeted” attack in Lebanon’s capital.

Reports said the target was an apartment building in Beirut’s Bashoura neighborhood, close to parliament, the nearest Israeli strikes have come to Lebanon’s seat of government. The attack also marked the second time Israel has struck central Beirut this week.

Images from the scene showed a heavily damaged building with a fire on one the lower floors.

In addition to the six fatalities, seven people were wounded in the strike, according to Lebanese health officials.

Multiple strikes were also reported in Beirut’s southern suburbs — a Hezbollah stronghold known as Dahiyeh — in areas issued evacuation warnings by the Israeli army. The area struck in central Beirut was not covered in those warnings.

An IDF statement confirming the military was striking in Beirut said further details would be released later.

The strikes in Beirut came hours after Syria’s state-run SANA news agency reported three people were killed and three others were wounded in an alleged Israeli strike on Damascus Wednesday afternoon.

SANA did not identify the dead, describing them as “civilians,” though reports later named one of them as Hassan Qassir — the brother of a senior Hezbollah commander killed by Israel on Tuesday.

Qassir’s brother, Muhammad Ja’far, had headed Hezbollah’s Unit 4400, which is tasked with delivering weapons from Iran and its proxies to Lebanon. He was killed in a strike in Beirut alongside the commander of the Imam Hossein Division, an Iranian militia which operates alongside Hezbollah.

According to various Arab media outlets, Hassan Qassir was also the son-in-law of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, who Israel killed in Dahiyeh last week.

Along with the aerial campaign against Hezbollah, Israel launched a ground campaign in southern Lebanon on Monday, when the 98th Division crossed over the border to demolish the terror group’s infrastructure with the aim of safely returning the tens of thousands of displaced Israelis to their homes in the north of the country.

The IDF has said that it intends for the operations to end as quickly as possible and reiterated on Wednesday that any house used by the Lebanese terror group for military purposes would be a target.

So far, the nearly yearlong skirmishes have resulted in 26 civilian deaths on the Israeli side, and — excluding eight soldiers killed Wednesday in the ground operation — the deaths of 22 IDF soldiers and reservists.

Government Corruption
Christ Martenson PhD - Just exactly WTF is going on in NC ?
[X] This needs to go far and wide to put pressure on the government to do the right thing and save lives. 🚨

This evening, from a Peak Prosperity member to me via PM at my site:

Them: I can’t post this online because it’s not quite public yet, but government officials had a town meeting with all of the residents of chimney rock and basically told them the town was being bulldozed, bodies and all and the land was being seized by the federal government they would not be able to move back and basically their homes the ones that were standing were no longer theirs and the federal government owned it all. I don’t know what crazy play for land this is, but there’s a lot of conspiracy about lithium mines and let me just tell you, as someone who lives in Charlotte and has friends who live in the area of Western North Carolina, they are not being helped and this is actually being a stand down operation by federal government

Me: What the heck...? That's quite disturbing. Is this first-hand, second-hand, or more distant info?

Them: Our friend owns an Airbnb in Chimney Rock. They had a town meeting yesterday and someone from the federal government told them all of those things in the town meeting, but doesn’t want the information getting out. Also, they are not picking up the bodies. The stench of the bodies everywhere is insane and for some reason, the government does not want to pick up the bodies. One pastor of a local church was going to order to door delivering water and they changed their delivery request to body bags because so many of the homes that they’ve gone to have needed body bags, we’re trying to keep the body count. They’re not picking up the bodies. They don’t wanna identify the bodies and they’re just leaving them to rot in the streets.

Me: I...can't...even. I'm stunned. This is beyond anything I could have imagined even very recently. You always pick up and bury the dead. It's what humans do. They are violating every possible custom ... on purpose. Thank you for keeping me informed. People need to know about this. Let me know when you'd be comfortable with me posting to our forums in an anonymized fashion, of course.

Them: You can post it the message needs to get out. Something evil is going on in the NC mountains. I just didn’t want to be identified. Just today we filled up a trailer for a shelter in Hendersonville NC that had no food for tons of moms and babies. All the stores round are empty or locked. In Chandler NC 2000 people haven’t eaten anything or drank in 6 days and just got an SOS message out for help. I’m trying to tag the Cajun navy and operation airdrop but people are dying by the minute.

Multiple tuckers have reported having tires slashed. Our friends from Chimney Rock said they have heard multiple stories of people being robbed at gunpoint making supply runs. Two people that drove down to Charlotte yesterday and today one that we helped said bodies in trees, all over ditches in major roads back. Something weird is going on here in NC.

Me: God bless you. Let me know if I can help.

Them: Someone with a large national megaphone needs to amplify how bad it is. People are now starting to die trapped. My town is Operation Air Drop NC central command. They need pilots with planes and now are asking just for trucks. People with big equipment are needed but more than anything the nation needs to put pressure on Washington to deploy the National Guard asap. The 82nd was begging to go since Saturday but has been told to stand down. Every fucking Apache we have should be flying rescue missions. Please amplify the message!!!

FL State Guardsman: What The Media Is Telling You About Helene Is Complete Bullsh*t, Politicians Don't Have A Clue And Are Lying
[RealClearPolitics] Jonathan Howard with Florida State Guard Special Missions Unit assisting with aerial recovery in North Carolina following the damage of Hurricane Helene, delivered a video message explaining what is really happening on the ground.

"I had my team up here working as well. Here's the problem. I'm going to tell you everything that's happening from the ground, what I'm actually seeing, because what they're telling you is complete bullsh*t on the news and these politicians don't have a f*cking clue and they're lying," Howard said.

"I don't know why they're doing it," Howard said of the federal response. "I don't know what kind of conspiracy I've heard so many things, whatever you want to come up with, but they are literally allowing these people to f*cking die in the mountains right now because we can't get helicopters. They got money for everything else in the f*cking world right now."

#3  I think you have to put yourself into the mindset of the enemy. They live in a 'how will this play on CNN?' point of view.

Worse yet, they further filter that through a particularly arcane lens of how they fantasize normal people will view things. Which is something so far beyond their imagining it is no longer possible to represent.

Thus the continuous trail of tone deaf imbecility that so plagues this great country and it's decent people. It's based on a cavalier, 'those simple Jesus people will accept this' mentality. A mentality which is unerringly wrong.

Not just wrong in terms of misreading the target audience, but morally bankrupt and utterly soulless.

Identity of man wanted for pouring coffee on Australian baby revealed
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news] A 33-year-old Chinese national on a student visa has been identified as the man suspected of pouring hot coffee on a baby at a park - as police reveal the child will have injuries for life due to the horrific attack.

Nine-month-old Luka was on a picnic with his mother in Hanlon Park, in inner south east Brisbane, when the man approached them at about midday on August 27, poured the thermos of scalding coffee over the toddler and fled.

The baby suffered life-threatening burns to his face, upper body and arms and has undergone four operations in Queensland Children's Hospital.

Police obtained a warrant for the man's arrest for acts intending to cause grievous bodily harm, which carries a life sentence as a maximum penalty.

The man drove to NSW a day after the alleged attack before flying out of the country from Sydney on August 31.

Acting Assistant Police Commissioner Andrew Massingham told Radio 4BC on Thursday that the suspect's name had been published in Chinese media.

Police said the 33-year-old man had no family or criminal record in Australia and had worked in Queensland, NSW and Victoria.

Daily Mail Australia understands he had been on a holiday visa since first coming to Australia in 2019, before switching to a student visa.

He was reportedly born in Hangzhou, China, according to Chinese media.

'Our international search continues for the person that committed that horrendous crime...we are very much committed to finding the individual responsible,' Mr Massingham said.

'That child will have those injuries for life.'

Queensland Police Detective Inspector Paul Dalton said the man fled the country just 12 hours after they identified him.

Det Insp Dalton said he was still scratching his head over a possible motive.

'There's not many investigations where you don't get a clear motive. It's strange,' he said.

Asked what his message to the man would be, Det Insp Dalton said: 'We will keep going until we find you - I have not lost that determination'.

The parents said their son was in good spirits but may take years to recover.

A GoFundMe page for the child has so far raised more than $195,000.

Passengers suspected of having deadly 'eye-bleeding' Marburg virus force closure of major German station
Epidemic tourist or devout believer?
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news] Two passengers suspected of having the deadly Marburg virus have forced the closure of a major German station amid fears the highly infectious Ebola-like disease has reached Europe.

Police cordoned off tracks seven and eight for several hours at Hamburg Station and travellers were cleared from platforms after emergency services in full protective suits boarded the ICE from Frankfurt.

Local reports have stated that two passengers on board have apparently been infected with the deadly 'eye-bleeding' virus.

One of the passengers is a man said to be a German medical student, 26, who boarded the ICE train to Hamburg with his girlfriend on Wednesday afternoon in Frankfurt.

During the train ride, both developed flu-like symptoms.

According to Bild, the student had previously arrived by plane directly from Rwanda where he had contact with a patient who doctors later diagnosed as being infected with the Marburg virus.

Britain
Moment husband is reunited with his wife after fleeing war-torn Beirut in emotional homecoming at Heathrow Airport - as first flights getting Brits out of Lebanon depart
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news] The touching scene was played out as other families greeted loved ones who had flown to the UK on a scheduled flight from Beirut.

More than a dozen people, some clutching bouquets of flowers, had waited patiently for their loved ones to appear after Middle East Airlines flight 201 had landed.

Ali, a barber from London, waited for his wife Hasan who had left her home in the village of Tyre, one of the areas in southern Lebanon under heavy bombardment from Israeli forces.

The first charter flight taking UK nationals out of Lebanon has since taken off, foreign secretary David Lammy today confirmed. Another flight is scheduled for tomorrow with 'further flights' planned over the 'coming days', Mr Lammy added.

As of last week, there were thought to be between 4,000 and 6,000 UK nationals, including dependants, in Lebanon.

The first arrivals of Britons fleeing Lebanon come as Israel continues its ground assault and aerial bombardment of the country as the IDF seeks to push back Hezbollah terrorists from its northern border.

And as the fighting continues to spiral, Britons living in Lebanon have been urged to evacuate the country by whatever means they can.

The UK government chartered a commercial flight out of Lebanon to assist British nationals trying to flee the fighting, the foreign secretary announced earlier this week.

The situation was 'volatile' and had the potential to 'deteriorate quickly', David Lammy warned, just hours before Israel announced the start of a 'localised and targeted' ground operation in southern Lebanon.

British nationals and their spouse or partner, and children under the age of 18 are eligible to take the flight, with vulnerable people a priority.

The plane is scheduled to leave on Wednesday from Beirut, which was hit by fresh Israeli air strikes overnight.

-Short Attention Span Theater-
Chris Cuomo blasts mainstream media for ignoring Doug Emhoff assault claims: 'If it were Trump it would be on every TV show'
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news] Chris Cuomo
…whose brother is a Democrat…
has blasted mainstream media outlets for failing to follow-up DailyMail.com's exclusive about Doug Emhoff assaulting an ex-girlfriend.

Emhoff, the Second Gentleman of the United States,
…which is not a thing, no matter how loudly they pretend…
was accused of 'hitting' his then partner in the face at a event in 2012.

But America's most powerful liberal outlets including The New York Times, the Washington Post and CNN have all failed to follow-up on it.

That has led to allegations of hypocrisy from critics including Cuomo, who believes the same outlets would be quick to seize on a similar story about a Trump family member.

Speaking on his NewsNation show, the former CNN star anchor said: 'If the name were Trump, instead of Emhoff, it would be all over the news.

'If it were Trump or anybody related to him, it would be on every tv show that is on right now.'

DailyMail.com's exclusive was followed-up by other large outlets including the New York Post and Newsweek.

But the refusal of the nation's most influential outlets to touch it has sparked fresh speculation that they're providing cover for Emhoff in a bit to help Kamala Harris win next month's presidential election.

The alleged incident involving Emhoff and the woman happened while waiting in a valet line after a Cannes Film Festival event in France a decade ago.

One of the woman's friends told DailyMail.com that Emhoff's ex called him immediately after the incident, sobbing in her cab, and described the alleged assault.

DailyMail.com is not naming the woman, who is a successful New York attorney, but will refer to her by the pseudonym 'Jane'.

A second friend said Jane, who had been dating Emhoff for three months, also told her about the alleged violence at the time.

Another said that Jane told her in 2014 that she had dated Emhoff and later recounted the story of his alleged abuse in 2018.

The friends, who all asked not to be named for fear of retaliation by Emhoff, shared with DailyMail.com pictures of him and Jane together from 2012, and other documents and communications corroborating elements of the story.

The new claims came after DailyMail.com revealed that Emhoff had cheated on his first wife and mother of his two kids around 2008.

Emhoff is said to have impregnated his daughter's nanny who also worked as her grade school teacher.

He later admitted the affair with the nanny and teacher, Najen Naylor, after DailyMail.com published the story last month.

All three of Jane's friends said she also told them about a disturbing alleged incident during her relationship with the Second Gentleman, in which Emhoff nonchalantly admitted to impregnating Naylor.

Emhoff told Jane that the nanny accused him of causing her to have a miscarriage, the friends claimed.

Emhoff was previously dubbed by Democrats as a 'wife guy' and a 'mensch', a Yiddish term for an honorable, kind man.

He has also spoken out in media interviews about being an ally to women and against toxic masculinity.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Connecticut man punches pregnant woman in violent carjacking attempt at Dunkin' Donuts drive-thru
"He is being held on a $250,000 bond for the charges, in addition to multiple outstanding arrest warrants totaling $475,000 and two outstanding warrants from CSP Troop A and Troop I."
[FoxNews] A Connecticut man has been arrested after allegedly assaulting a pregnant woman while attempting to steal her vehicle.

The East Haven Police department released a statement Wednesday following a report of an attempted carjacking in a Dunkin' Donuts drive-thru.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, October 1 when William Rodriguez, 28,
…who has a really gorgeous crop of thick, curly hair and dead eyes…
pulled into the parking lot directly in front of the victim's car, according to authorities.

Rodriguez then allegedly exited his vehicle and climbed into the passenger side of the woman's car and demanded her keys. When she refused to surrender her keys, Rodriguez then began punching the woman, who was four months pregnant, before she could escape the vehicle and run inside the restaurant to seek help.

An employee working inside the drive-thru witnessed the assault and notified two coworkers, who then ran outside and restrained Rodriguez, who was attempting to flee in the victim's vehicle, according to the police statement.

When officers arrived at the scene, Rodriquez continued to struggle and after being taken into custody he bit a medic’s hand.

The vehicle in Rodriguez's possession at the time of the assault, a 2016 Hyundai Elantra, had been reported stolen previously.

Government Corruption
FEMA Is Out of Money After Helene. Spends it all on illegals
[PJMedia] Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas admitted on Wednesday that "FEMA does not have the funds to make it through the season." One reason for that is that under Biden-Harris, FEMA spent $650 million this fiscal year providing services and housing to illegal aliens. And $364 million the year before that.

If you thought the Federal Emergency Management Agency was just in the business of providing relief to Americans of all creeds and colors when disaster strikes, let's just say that the Biden-Harris administration has broadened the agency's portfolio to include non-emergency aid to folks who aren't even supposed to be here.

Did I really put "you'll never guess where it went" in the headline? I should have given you more credit because I'm sure you totally guessed that one.

Thousands of noncitizens removed from voter rolls, dozens of lawmakers want answers from Garland
[FoxNews] Dozens of lawmakers in the House and Senate are calling for more information from the Justice Department about efforts to stop noncitizen voting in federal elections, which they call a "serious threat" to election integrity, citing officials in multiple states who have identified noncitizens on their voter rolls.

A letter from 73 lawmakers, led by Sen. Bill Hagerty, R-Tenn., and Rep. Andy Biggs, R-Ariz., sent to Attorney General Merrick Garland said they were "deeply concerned" by reports of noncitizens registering to vote and voting in federal elections and had not received a response from an inquiry in July on the matter.

"As of today, there has been no response from you or your Department regarding the inquiry on July 12, 2024, seeking information on efforts undertaken by your Department to enforce laws prohibiting non-citizen voting. Given that the 2024 Presidential Election is in less than 34 days, your Department’s inaction and refusal to provide any information regarding its efforts to promote public trust and confidence in our elections is especially alarming," they wrote.

Specifically, they asked how many aliens have been prosecuted under laws related to noncitizen voting, how the DOJ handles allegations of noncitizen voting or registration and the steps it takes to prevent such practices.

Noncitizens are not allowed to vote, and top Republicans, including former President Trump, have repeatedly expressed concern that noncitizens may attempt to vote in federal elections, particularly given the influx of immigrants across the southern border in recent years.

In August, Republican lawmakers pushed for the SAVE Act, which aimed to require states to obtain proof of citizenship in person when registering an individual to vote and require states to remove noncitizens from voter rolls, to be attached to a spending bill extension to avoid a government shutdown at the end of the fiscal year.

The lawmakers in the letter cited an announcement by the Virginia attorney general that it had identified 6,303 noncitizens on its voter rolls in 2022 and 2023, while Texas had removed 6,500 noncitizens from its voter rolls. Of those, 1,930 had a history of voting.

The DOJ itself announced last month that it had charged an illegal immigrant with stealing a U.S. citizen’s identity to vote in multiple elections and fraudulently obtain a U.S. passport.

It also asks what steps the department is taking to prosecute noncitizens registered to vote in the 2024 election. DOJ confirmed to Fox News Digital that it had received the letter.

This week, the DOJ sued Alabama, alleging the state removed voters who had been issued noncitizen identification numbers from its election rolls too close to Election Day. The agency argued that officials violated the National Voter Registration Act of 1993, which requires states to complete any changes to the voter registration lists no later than 90 days before federal elections.

Biden-Harris Admin Used FEMA Disaster Funding For Illegal Immigrants
[Federalist] "FEMA needs Mo Money for Hurrican Helene relief!"
The Biden-Harris administration took more than a billion tax dollars that had been allocated to the agency responsible for American disaster relief and used it to offer services for illegal immigrants.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) allocated nearly $364 million in the fiscal year 2023 and $650 million for the 2024 fiscal year to the "Shelter and Services Program" "to provide humanitarian services to noncitizen migrants following their release from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS)," according to the government’s website.

The program is run in cooperation with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) "to support CBP in the safe, orderly and humane release of noncitizen migrants from short-term holding facilities," FEMA’s website reads.

An anonymous X account highlighted the program after MSNBC pundit Michael Steele sought to portray former President Donald Trump as the commander-in-chief who denied Americans full relief from catastrophic weather events.

"Duke Energy confirmed on X that hundreds of power substations are offline across the Carolinas.

We initially reported on this unfolding power grid crisis Wednesday morning in a note titled Grid Apocalypse Hits Carolinas: 360 Substations Down, Power Restoration Could Take “Months,” citing experts who warned, “It could take a very long time to restore power to everyone” due to shortages of transformers and other electrical equipment and critically low US stockpiles."

“Approximately 370 substations were out of service from the storm in the Duke Energy Carolinas service area. For those that were damaged and can’t be repaired in a timely manner – mobile substations will be installed to allow us to restore service as soon as it is safe to do so,”…

Jesse D. Jenkins, an assistant professor and macro-energy systems engineering and policy expert at Princeton University, warned on X,
“This is devastating. We do NOT have 360 substations worth of transformers and other electrical equipment sitting in stockpiles waiting to be deployed. It could take a very long time to restore power to everyone. Are we facing a Hurricane Maria-type impact on grid infrastructure?”…

…Making matters worse for residents of North Carolina, some X users are pointing out the Biden-Harris administration supplied transformers to Ukraine. It needs to be clarified if these transformers were drained from US stockpiles…

Yazidi Woman Kidnapped By Isis In 2014 At Age 11 Rescued From Gaza, Reunited With Family In Iraq
Happy news. May this be a good omen for the 10/7 hostages, too.
[IsraelTimes] A Yazidi woman who was kidnapped by ISIS from Iraq in 2014 at the age of 11 and transferred to the Gaza Strip has finally been rescued and reunited with her family.

Unverified posts on social media say that Israeli security forces carried out the rescue operation.

In a statement, the Iraqi Foreign Ministry says that the woman, Fawzia Amin Sido, was released through joint efforts “in high coordination” with the US embassies in Baghdad and Amman along with Jordanian authorities.

Jewish philanthropist Steve Maman, dubbed by some as the “Jewish Schindler,” shares a video of her reuniting with her family last night.

“I made a promise to Fawzia the Yazidi who was hostage of Hamas in Gaza that I would bring her back home to her mother in Sinjar,” Maman writes on X. “To her, it seemed surreal and impossible but not to me, my only enemy was time. Our team reunited her moments ago with her mother and family in Sinjar.”

… Her story is a reminder of the brutality faced by Yazidi children, taken without a choice.

Remember, there are still 101 Israelis being held hostage in Gaza.

#2  Here is how Rudaw — our Kurdish news source based in Iraq — reports the story today. Note that there is no mention whatsoever of the Jewish Canadian philanthropist or Israel:

Fawzia Amin Sido “was released through joint efforts between the Foreign Ministry and the National Intelligence Service,” a statement from Iraq’s foreign ministry said, adding that she is from al-Qahtaniya in Nineveh’s Baaj district.

The area near Shingal (Sinjar) was taken over in August 2014 by the ISIS group. Sido was transferred to several countries “before her liberation,” the statement added.

“Fawzia was with an ISIS militant who is from the Gaza Strip in Palestine. The militant has been killed. It has been four years since the mother of the killed militant has taken Fawzia to the Gaza Strip with herself,” Sarab Elias, director general for Survivors Affairs at the Iraqi Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs, told Rudaw.

Elias said that after obtaining “important information” they determined her location in the Gaza Strip, and repatriated her from Jordan.

An advisor to the Iraqi prime minister said that information obtained from Rudaw was key.

"We first got information through Rudaw about the kidnapped Yazidi girl in the Gaza Strip when she appeared on Rudaw and talked about her being Yazidi and being in Gaza," Khalaf Shingali, PM Mohammed Shia al-Sudani's advisor for Yazidi affairs, told Rudaw on Thursday.

Shingali said that when they saw the woman, they immediately began efforts to rescue her by establishing communication channels and identifying her location. They remained in contact with her until she was brought to Jordan and then back to her Iraq.

Her rescue was carried out in coordination with Iraq’s foreign ministry, the National Intelligence Agency, the American embassy in Jordan, and Jordanian officials, according to Shingali.

Intelligence and foreign ministry officials were “in high coordination with the U.S. embassies in Baghdad and Amman, and the Jordanian authorities, after efforts and follow-up that lasted for more than four months,” the foreign ministry’s statement said.

As of Wednesday, Sido was returned to her family and is in Shingal, according to Elias.

After Motorcade Involved In Fender Bender, Tim Walz Adds Purple Heart To Resume
[BEE] MINNEAPOLIS, MN — Democrat Vice-Presidential candidate Tim Walz has just added another distinguished award to his already impressive military resume. According to sources, the battle-hardened veteran awarded himself a Purple Heart after his motorcade was involved in a fender bender yesterday.

While sources say that the incident was "relatively minor," as Walz had accidentally bumped into a parked car, the Minnesota governor decided it was a good enough opportunity for him to spiff up his military career just a little more.

"I, Tim Walz, for my outstanding bravery and courage in the face of suffering slight back pain as a result of rear-ending another person's parked car, do hereby award myself the Purple Medal for Distinguished Valor or something," Walz reportedly intoned, gazing balefully at the damage with his best grizzly veteran's face. "In recognition of my service, I would like to offer myself my sincerest congratulations and best wishes. Science bless America. Communism is the answer. Thank you all."

Visit International Longshoremen's Assoc. president Harold Daggett's house
[NYP] Harold Daggett — the union boss who has vowed to "cripple" the US economy if ports don’t ban automation and raise dockworkers’ wages sharply — had a Bentley convertible parked outside his sprawling mansion in New Jersey this week, exclusive photos obtained by The Post reveal.

Photos taken by drone on Tuesday show the British luxury car parked with its top up outside what appears to be a five-car garage that’s connected to his 7,136-square-foot, Tudor-style home by a covered skyway.

The hulking, two-story mansion — located on a 10-acre property in Sparta, a leafy enclave 50 miles west of New York City — encircles a spacious backyard patio with an amoeba-shaped pool.

A covered outdoor bar is situated next to what appears to be a massive, brick pizza oven.

A gate on the far side of the patio opens toward what looks like a free-standing sauna surrounded by a spacious wooden deck. A expansive swathe of forest surrounds the property on all sides.

The posh compound is nestled in a picturesque section of the Garden State near the Delaware Water Gap, where five-bedroom homes list for as much as $6 million, according to Zillow.

VP Candidate Walz Helped Secure Millions in Funding for Minnesota Researchers With Ties to Wuhan, China Lab
[RedState] If you've been wondering about Democratic vice presidential candidate and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz's many voyages to the Middle Kingdom, you're not alone. It's a bit of a curiosity, an American politician who is so cozy with China, a Communist country under the single-handed control of Chairman Xi, and a nation that's not exactly friendly to the United States. It's a bit like the daffy old Bolshevik from Vermont, Bernie Sanders, honeymooning in the Soviet Union - only Tim Walz went back to China, again and again. It's enough to provoke questions.
Useful idiot
On Wednesday that curiosity was rewarded, although the Harris/Walz campaign may not be too happy about it. It turns out that Tim Walz may well have provided indirect support for the Wuhan Institute of Virology - yes, that Wuhan Institute of Virology:

Democratic vice presidential nominee Tim Walz is coming under fire for supporting a U.S. research institute with connections to China.

The University of Minnesota's Hormel Institute has published research and worked with scientists from China's infamous Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV), the same lab the FBI concluded was likely the birthplace of COVID.

The WIV was also host to numerous experiments by the Chinese military's People's Liberation Army (PLA), including some grisly ones on animals.

And Walz, who has spoken highly of China and has taken dozens of trips there including his honeymoon, has worked to secure at least $7 million in funding for Hormel Institute.

Good News: We Can Now Discuss the COVID Lab Leak Theory Rationally - Even in Dem-Led Committee Hearings

So, we have an American politician working to obtain funding for an American organization, the Hormel Institute, which supports and works with a Chinese virology lab that has a history of conducting ethically questionable experiments, and which is very likely the origin of the COVID-19 virus. Now that American politician is a candidate for the second-highest elected position in the land; a heartbeat away from being commander-in-chief of all the armed forces.

#9  You know why this is. Your country is run by corporations now
That money goes to those countries in “aid” that must be spent on weapons and products produced by certain corporations

That money goes to lockheed martin, northrop grumman, general dynamics, boeing and a zillion military contractors idk the names of

If you want your taxes spent on Hurricane Helene victims who lost everything (and some their lives) then you know what you are going to have to do

Break up the corporations

It is the only way

Only when they are made into hundreds of smaller businesses with no more than 5000 employees and a limited product line, then they won’t be large and centralised enough to run your country as they see fit.

You are going to have to break all the largest corporations into smaller businesses. Dow, Visa, McKinsey, Bain, Pfizer, Meta, Amazon, all of them

-Lurid Crime Tales-
DHS Agent Awaiting Trial in N. Dakota for Killing Air Force Sergeant, Possible Major Cover-Up Underway
[Gateway] On Christmas Eve 2023, 41 year old Master Sergeant Nicholas Van Pelt was dead, and a 40 year old woman who was not his wife was on the ground bleeding from a bullet to the shoulder and one to the arm. Meanwhile, Department of Homeland Security Agent Daniel Breijo was patiently waiting for police to arrive with his hands on his head and the murder weapon at his side in the bathroom.

The bleeding woman was able to tell police, "Danny did it" as she was taken to safety and for medical attention. She has not been identified, except that she is a 40 year old employee in Ward County’s state attorney’s office. What she meant was that Breijo was the one who fired eight shots in the small apartment, six almost immediately into the chest of Van Pelt when he answered the door.

Since that time, the criminal case in the state of North Dakota against federal DHS Agent Breijo has lingered and largely stalled.

Nine months later and the case still has not set the dates for its preliminary hearing, and the defense uncharacteristically keeps trying to seal all details in this criminal case from public view.

Economy
High Paid ILA President Harold Daggett's shady past and lavish lifestyle come into focus with crippling port strike
Yes Doris, a salary of $901,000 per year is a bit above the national average.
[Washington Examiner] Harold Daggett, the 78-year-old chief of the International Longshoremen’s Association, isn’t pulling any punches. It’s not his style.

"People are going to sit up and realize how important longshoremen jobs are," Daggett said Tuesday. "They won’t be able to sell cars. They won’t be able to stock malls. They won’t be able to do anything in this country without my f***ing people. And it’s about time they start realizing it."

The white-haired, acerbic, profane-laden leader is in his fourth term as union president. He is leading thousands of men and women into the organization’s most militant stance yet against port operators following decades of fierce contract negotiations with ocean carriers.

Daggett, who often shows up to sit-down interviews in muscle shirts, gold chains, and large medallions, is throwing himself into the fight of his life — to win a historic pay raise and stop automation in its tracks.

On Tuesday, he was at the Port Authority in Elizabeth, New Jersey, wearing a blue sweatshirt and a gray baseball hat. He was also carrying a bullhorn.

"We are prepared to fight as long as necessary, to stay out on strike for whatever period of time it takes, to get the wages and protections against automation our ILA members deserve," his raspy voice rang out. It was the ILA’s first coastwide strike in almost five decades.

The existing contract between the union and the port operators group, the United States Maritime Alliance, which covers roughly 45,000 longshoremen, expired on Monday. Negotiations have stalled since June, when, citing the use of labor-saving technology at the port in Alabama, the ILA broke off talks.

Daggett is gunning for a 77% pay increase over six years. That would boost the base hourly rate for dockworkers to $69 from $39. Port employers and ocean shipping companies initially offered nearly 40%. Under pressure from the White House on Monday, they increased their offer to 50%.

Daggett said no deal and vowed the strike would continue until employers meet his demands.

They can die cold in the dark after a hurricane.

Kind of a bad look. Might even make people really curious about things. Details. Ways and Means.

I would suggest a 1 month pause, at least at ports with a connection to hurricane damage, on the promise that the strike would resume and be solid at the end of that time.

Well, IIUC, certain peoples use their 'yacht rentals' to 'overcharge' 'certain clients' as a way to launder 'certain fees', as well as give those 'certain clients' clean transport registered to a powerful protection figure for 'personal uses', which can include 'custom crew and fittings'.

-Signs, Portents, and the Weather-
Biden deploys 1,000 TROOPS to deal with the devastation of Hurricane Helene
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news] President Joe Biden is sending 1,000 active-duty soldiers to North Carolina to help with the response to Hurricane Helene, the White House announced.

The troops, who are stationed at Fort Liberty, N.C., will help with the distribution of food, water and other supplies.

'They have the manpower and logistical capabilities to get this vital job done, and fast. They will join hundreds of North Carolina National Guard members deployed under State authorities in support of the response,' Biden said in a statement.

Biden made the announcement shortly before departing for a tour of North Carolina and South Carolina, where he'll tour the storm damage. He was spotted wearing brown hiking boots with blue jeans and a blazer as he boarded Air Force One.

North Carolina was hit hard by the storm, particularly in its western mountain region.

The tourist-heavy town of Asheville suffered terrible flooding and destruction.

Compounding the problem, several main routes into Asheville were washed away or blocked by mudslides, including a 4-mile section of Interstate 40. Additionally, broken water systems, downed power lines and poor cellphone service are making rescue efforts more complicated.

The Department of Defense already has activated 22 helicopters to aid in search and rescue operations and provided dozens of high-water vehicles.

In total, FEMA has shipped over 8.5 million meals, more than 7 million liters of water, 150 generators and over 220,000 tarps to aid response efforts for this historic storm, the White House said.

'It's going to take a long haul to restore these communities,' Biden said Tuesday.

Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris are making separate trips south on Wednesday to see a trio of states devastated by Hurricane Helene.

'I've ensured my travel will not disrupt the ongoing response,' Biden posted on X on Tuesday.

The White House said he will visit Georgia and Florida on Thursday.

Biden will take an aerial tour of South Carolina before being briefed by emergency responders in Raleigh, N.C. His flyover time should include the highly-impacted areas of North Carolina.

Harris will visit Georgia to see the storm damage and be briefed there. The Democratic presidential nominee canceled plans to campaign in Pennsylvania on Wednesday so she could visit the areas impacted by the hurricane.

Donald Trump, who visited Georgia on Tuesday, has been critical of the administration's response to Helene, falsely claiming Biden wouldn't speak to the state's governor.

But Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp, a Republican, confirmed he had spoken with the president.

Trump also claimed without evidence that Democratic leaders were withholding help from Republican areas. Biden is traveling to South Carolina, a Republican-led state, to see the storm damage.

More than 130 people in six states, from Florida to Tennessee, died. Additionally, power and cellular service remains unavailable in many places.

Biden has said the administration is sending 'every available resource' to those areas.

Ivanka Trump flirts with a return to the 2024 frontline by handing out food and Starlinks to families devastated by Hurricane Helene
Nonsense. The lady is helpful where she can make a difference, like her father. In her case it has nothing to do with politics.
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news] Ivanka Trump traveled to Hickory, North Carolina, on Wednesday to hand out food, emergency supplies and 300 starlinks to those devastated by Hurricane Helene.

The former first daughter was there with CityServe, a relief organization she has worked with since her time in the White House.

They provided hot meals and fresh produce from Planet Harvest. The Starlink devices, donated by Elon Musk's SpaceX, will help connect victims to high-speed internet.

Dressed casually in jeans, sneakers and a green and white sweater, Ivanka served meals and took photos with pilots, airport staff and volunteers.

Man shot to death by assassins who fled on jet skis at Cancun resort
[Daily Mail where America gets its news] Terrified tourists were forced indoors at their luxury five-star resort in Cancun after assassins stormed the nearby sunlit sand to execute a hit.

The victim, identified only as a 30-year-old Mexican national, was gunned down by four armed men who fired multiple fatal shots on Wednesday morning outside Hotel Riu.

The group then fled the scene, with two leaving on awaiting jet skis and two running away on foot.

Guests ran for cover as the men carried out the targeted attack before attempting to evade police, Turquesa News reported.

The outlet reported the victim was allegedly in charge of the jet skis the suspects used to flee.

Footage from the aftermath shows concerned guests wandering around the $1000-a-night lobby awaiting instruction from officials.

Others were seen on camera inside the resort in panic, with some calling loved ones, screaming and rushing to get inside with their beach gear.

Law enforcement are exploring the possibility that this homicide could be related to drug trafficking and cartel-related crimes.

Hotel Riu released a statement that the dead man was not a guest or employee at their hotel, Riviera Maya News reported.
Increased levels of cartel-related violence have resulted in territorial disputes and targeted killings, injuring or killing innocent bystanders.'

Police have not identified the deceased man, but paramedics confirmed he was dead at the scene.

One of the four gunmen took off after shots were fired and ran through the beach area of the hotel's neighboring Dreams Hotel.

Witnesses said the suspect was wearing dark Bermuda shorts and a black shirt.

The US State Department lists Mexico at a tier two advisory level - meaning tourists should exercise increased caution when travelling.

'While Mexican authorities endeavor to safeguard the country’s major resort areas and tourist destinations, those areas have not been immune to the types of violence and crime experienced elsewhere in Mexico.

'In some areas of Mexico, response time of local police is often slow. In addition, filing police reports can be time consuming.

Increased levels of cartel-related violence have resulted in territorial disputes and targeted killings, injuring or killing innocent bystanders.'

This shooting happened two months after a 12-year-old boy was shot and killed after gunmen riding jet skis opened fire on a rival drug dealers on a beach in Cancún, Mexico.

Seattle judge releases accused killer 27 hours after 65-year-old military veteran stabbed to death
[FoxNews] A judge in Washington state released a teen one day after his arrest for allegedly stabbing a 65-year-old veteran to death at a home.

On Friday, the Renton Police Department said 19-year-old K'Shawn Konscience Jimerson called 911 just after 2 p.m. and told the operator he had stabbed someone and would be standing "outside with the knife." Jimerson also claimed self-defense during the call, police said.

"The 911 caller said that they had stabbed the handyman inside the house," Susan Hassinger of the Renton police told FOX 13 Seattle.

Witnesses told police they heard arguing and then saw Jimerson with a large butcher knife and covered in blood, FOX 13 reported.

A witness also claimed seeing 65-year-old handyman and veteran Michael Gray bleeding out and yelled for Jimerson to call 911.

When officers arrived at the apartment, they discovered Gray with stab wounds to his side and back. Officers immediately rendered aid, but Gray died at the home, police said.

Officers also recovered the knife from a sink full of detergent, court records show.

Police said Jimerson remained on the scene and was detained.

When law enforcement officers were asked if they objected to Jimerson's release, they marked "yes" on a court form, stating, "Jimerson, who is 19, stabbed a 65-year-old man with a large knife during an argument."

At his first court appearance, 27 hours after his arrest, Judge Michelle Gehlsen initially set bail at $50,000 despite finding probable cause for second-degree murder and the prosecutor asking for $2 million bail. Police said Jimerson posted bail and has been released.

The prosecutor has filed a motion to increase bail, and that hearing is scheduled for Thursday, Renton police told Fox News Digital.

Detectives told FOX 13 surveillance video shows Jimerson chasing Gray down from behind and hitting him in the back of the head with a large wooden club, then striking him two more times in the head after he fell to the ground.

The video then shows Gray getting up and turning to interact with Jimerson, who runs off as both men enter the apartment out of view of the camera.

Jimerson recently moved back to Washington from Texas, where his mom lives, FOX 13 learned.

Gray had been hired by Jimerson's grandmother to do maintenance work and had spent a day and a half cleaning the walls inside the apartment before his death, FOX 13 reported.

Gray lived with his roommates in a single-story home across the street from the duplex where he was killed, and they told FOX 13 he was a kind man who was always willing to lend a hand. The roommates also revealed Gray was a military veteran. It was not immediately known what branch of the military Gray served in.

Fox News Digital reached out to the Kings County Prosecutor's Office for comment but did not immediately get a response.

Trump blasts DOJ for 'election interference,' calls Jack Smith case a 'scam' after judge unseals key filing
[FoxNews] During an election year, DOJ often holds off on major actions during the 60 days leading up to Election Day

Former President Trump blasted the Justice Department Wednesday for having "disobeyed their own rule in favor of complete and total election interference" after a key filing from Special Counsel Jack Smith’s election case against him was unsealed with just weeks before Americans cast their ballots.

U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia Judge Tanya Chutkan unsealed Smith’s 165-page filing Wednesday afternoon. The filing lays out his case and the alleged evidence he intends to use in an eventual trial against Trump.

Trump pleaded not guilty to all charges brought by Smith.

But Trump blasted the Justice Department Wednesday evening.

"For 60 days prior to an election, the Department of Injustice is supposed to do absolutely nothing that would taint or interfere with a case," Trump posted in all capital letters to his Truth Social. "They disobeyed their own rule in favor of complete and total election interference."

DOJ practice during an election year has often been to hold off on major actions in cases that could impact elections during the 60 days leading up to Election Day, an unwritten policy commonly referred to as the "60-day rule." The "rule," which is really more of a tradition because it is not an actual rule, has been cited many times in recent years.

"The case is a scam, just like all of the others, including the documents case, which was dismissed!"

Trump was pointing to the other case Smith brought against him related to classified records. The case was tossed out by a federal judge in Florida who ruled that Smith was unlawfully appointed as special counsel.

Trump’s comments came in response to Smith's newly-unsealed filing, in which he alleges Trump "resorted to crimes to try to stay in office" after losing the 2020 presidential election.

"With private co-conspirators, the defendant launched a series of increasingly desperate plans to overturn the legitimate election results in seven states that he had lost — Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, New Mexico, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin," Smith wrote.

"His efforts included lying to state officials in order to induce them to ignore true vote counts; manufacturing fraudulent electoral votes in the targeted states; attempting to enlist Vice President Michael R. Pence, in his role as President of the Senate, to obstruct Congress’s certification of the election by using the defendant’s fraudulent electoral votes; and when all else had failed, on January 6, 2021, directing an angry crowd of supporters to the United States Capitol to obstruct the congressional certification."

Smith claims that the "throughline of these efforts was deceit," claiming Trump and co-conspirators engaged in a conspiracy to interfere with the federal government function by which the nation collects and counts election results, which is set forth in the Constitution and the Electoral Count Act (ECA); a conspiracy to obstruct the official proceeding in which Congress certifies the legitimate results of the presidential election; and a conspiracy against the rights of millions of Americans to vote and have their votes counted."

The Supreme Court earlier this year ruled that a president is immune from prosecution for official acts.

Smith was then required to file another indictment against Trump, revising the charges in an effort to navigate the Supreme Court ruling. The new indictment kept the prior criminal charges but narrowed and reframed allegations against Trump after the high court’s ruling that gave broad immunity to former presidents.

Trump pleaded not guilty to all charges in the new indictment as well.

Last month, Chutkan said she would not hold the trial for Trump on charges stemming from Smith's Jan. 6 investigation until after the 2024 presidential election. She set deadlines for replies and paperwork from federal prosecutors and Trump's legal team for Nov. 7 — after Election Day.

AIM-174B Loadout Brings Back U.S. Navy’s Cold War Roots
[NavalNews] The U.S. Navy's return to VLRAAMs offers a glimpse into the envisioned strategy to overcome the 'tyranny of distance' in the Pacific.

by Carter Johnston

Another sighting of the AIM-174B, this time at Point Mugu Naval Air Station, is offering a look at what the future of naval aviation air warfare operations could look like in a high intensity conflict, bringing back hints of the U.S. Navy’s past in great power competition.

An F/A-18F Super Hornet from Test and Evaluation Squadron 9 (VX-9), the primary test squadron for the AIM-174B, was spotted by father-son Instagram duo Mark and Taj of @point_mugu_skies. Fully loaded, the F/A-18F was carrying four CATM-174Bs, three CATM-120Ds, two CATM-9Xs, and a centerline fuel tank with the IRST-21 infrared-search-and-track system.

Operationally, this would offer a Super Hornet unparalleled capabilities for long-range engagements with four AIM-174Bs, backed up by AIM-120Ds that are reportedly approaching the threshold range for AIM-260 JATM range requirements–potentially up to 190 kilometers (120 miles).

The U.S. Navy’s investment into these advanced capabilities and longer ranges is another example of the evolving Carrier Air Wing concept heading into the late 2020s. Naval News previously reported on concept that was highlighted at this year’s Rim of the Pacific Exercise. The debut of operational AIM-174Bs in the U.S. Navy, which received significant press coverage during their appearance at RIMPAC 2024, marks a significant change in carrier air power.

Don Trump Jr.'s tense post-debate exchange with CNN's Kaitlan Collins over 'radicalized' people
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news] Donald Trump Jr. blasted the media for creating narratives that 'radicalize' voters who are 'trying to kill my father' during a tense exchange with CNN anchor Kaitlan Collins.

Trump Jr. was speaking in the spin room after the vice presidential debate between Senator JD Vance and Governor Tim Walz took place in New York City on Tuesday.

As noted by Collins, the debate had a civil tone where both potential vice presidents at times agreed with each other.

The conversation turned sour once the CNN anchor asked the former president's son 'should we see more of that on the debate stage when your dad's up there?'

Trump Jr responded: 'You know I'd love to see that across the board. Sometimes the political climate isn't that much, we've all heard about Trump derangements, we've seen what they've lied about my family, you know, I was an agent of Russia.

'But Hunter Biden's laptop was totally Russian disinformation, turns out the opposite was true. You know the media did that, they created so much of that environment.

That was the point where the interview grew tense. Trump Jr. proceeded to levy the blame of his father's assassination attempt on the political environment the media created.

'The media has radicalized the people that are trying to kill my father. We've had to deal with that twice now for the last two months. I've had to have that conversation with my five young children twice in the last two months about someone trying to shoot their grandfather.'

'You know that didn't just magically happen. That's not him, that's a media created thing, fake Russia scenario. They ran with it for years, even when it was disproven they ran with it. You know that environment wasn't just created by Donald Trump.'

Collins quickly interjected here to throw some criticism back at Trump Jr.

Collins said: 'Okay but can I just say you can't blame, and everyone wants your dad to be safe, no one wants the threats against his life to happen, but you can't blame the media.

'There's been no evidence that's what drove those [assassination attempts].'

But Trump Jr. interrupted and said: 'When someone allows people to have a platform to call someone literally Hitler everyday for nine years, it creates it.

'Whether you want to believe it or not , that's a fact.'

Collins clapped back with: 'But as you know JD Vance once likened your dad to Hitler as well. He questioned if he was America's Hitler.'
And then he did his due diligence, and by the time they met he’d changed his mind.

Caucasus/Russia/Central Asia
Rating Russian Military leaders of the Special Military Operation
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.

This is apparently an ongoing text broadcast of the top 20 Russian general field commanders currently fighting in the Russian special military operation.

Previous entry at rantburg.com can be found here.

[AltaiRusidea] COLONEL GENERAL TEPLINSKY
His group is currently the largest group of troops in the SVO zone. Over the course of a year, he has been subjected to a huge amount of criticism, but he continued to fulfill his military duty, despite all the obstacles that his superiors created for him.

Due to excessive nervous exhaustion, the commander began to develop facial nerve neuritis, which in turn causes severe headaches, while Teplinsky himself does not like to go to doctors and does not consider himself ill. The commander fell out of the public eye after the infamous Krynki: ill-wishers unashamedly ironized that even the main favorite of the general public could not turn the situation around, resolve the issue of air defense, rotation of personnel and finally failed to build vertical connections between the headquarters and units on the contact line, demanding slides before organizing a fire strike, but few people know that Teplinsky was at least twice pulled up by senior commanders, criticizing him for Bonapartism, and for the first time in a long time he made concessions, becoming conformist.

It is noteworthy that despite his complicated relationship with the Chief of General Staff, Teplinsky actually combines two positions and at the same time continues to deal with issues of staffing in the Airborne Forces. He was the first to publicly speak about losses in the troops and was reprimanded, but increasingly, on the front lines in the airborne troops, one can meet elderly soldiers, some of whom have already turned 60 years old. In the spring of 2024, it seemed to many that the Russian Army would get bogged down and would not be able to reach the Dnieper, but already on July 17, the last units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine left Krynki. Time after time, Mikhail Teplinsky proved his indispensability, but seeing the rejection from his inner circle, he became a closed person, distancing himself from the daily routine.

We believe that the commander of the Ili force still has something to say: avoiding his rebellious heart, he will once again cement his glory as the main “firefighter” of the Russian Army in fire and smoke.

COLONEL GENERAL RUDSKOY
He was once again able to prove that the cold operational calculation that underlies the analysis of the situation weighs more in specific terms than the initial value judgments that have an emotional coloring, for which, however, he paid very dearly and lost the favor of his immediate superior.

On August 6, the General Staff heard the question: " What to do?" The events in the Kursk region no longer resembled the usual DRG approach or reconnaissance in force; intelligence reports, including those obtained through agents, were confirmed: the accumulated operational reserves near Shostka were rushing into an operational breakthrough on the border. But Rudskoy would not have been himself if, during operational calculations on the map, he had not come to the conclusion that in such a quantitative ratio the enemy would not be able to enter the operational space and not only would not accomplish the task of disorganizing the work of the headquarters of the cover group, but would also not be able to accomplish the subsequent goal of sending raiding parties to the Kursk NPP. The Main Intelligence Directorate managed to correctly assess the situation and come to the conclusion that the operational intensity in the Donbass should not only not be reduced, but also increased, and for two months now, reports have not stopped coming in about the capture of more settlements in the DPR.

Not everyone at that time agreed with this line of behavior: for example, the first deputy head of the Main Operational Command Viktor Poznikhir advocated for the fastest possible containment of the bridgehead to prevent the introduction of reserves, the beginning of digging in and systematic rotation of positions, but in this case it would be necessary to significantly change the existing operational configuration and slow down the pace of the offensive in Donbas. The correctness of Sergei Rudskoy's judgments is indirectly confirmed by the words of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Alexander Syrsky, who publicly stated that the offensive in the Kursk region did not allow achieving the goals of stopping the offensive on Pokrovsk and Ugledar, where the Russian Army has begun to achieve significant successes today.

Biden to stay out of port strike as trade flows halt, union boss threatens to ‘cripple' economy
[JustTheNews] Breaking up the strike with his presidential authority could damage Kamala Harris’ chances with a key union worker constituency, but an economic chaos may damage her cause, too.

The White House has remained firm in its position that it will not intervene in negotiations between port workers and dock employers as trade flows screech to a halt and the lead union boss threatens to "cripple" the economy less than 35 days before the presidential election.

A general strike spread across most of the major ports on the U.S. East Coast Tuesday as the labor union representing the workers, International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA), said dock employers failed to give in to their demands.

The strike threatens to plug up an estimated $2.1 billion in daily trade flows from these busy ports as the presidential election and holiday seasons fast approach.

Republicans and hundreds of industry associations have called on President Joe Biden to invoke the Taft-Hartley Act, a law originally passed in 1947 that gives the president the authority to intervene in strikes if they threaten to cause a national emergency. The act was last used in 2002 by President George W. Bush to reopen ports on the West Coast after employers prevented longshoreman from entering their facilities.

But before the strike began Tuesday, Biden signaled he would not invoke the post-war act to end the strike, especially given the immense damage from Hurricane Helene across the U.S. Southeast and persistent inflation as the holiday season approaches.

“Mr. President, will you intervene in the dockworkers strike if they go on strike on Tuesday?” a reporter asked the president.

“No,” Biden replied.

“Why not?”

“Because there’s collective bargaining, and I don’t believe in Taft-Hartley,” Biden said.

The White House on Tuesday again confirmed the president would not use the authority under the act to intervene in the negotiations even as the union appeared to dig in its heels for the long haul. The White House indicated its calculus stems from briefings by federal agencies on the potential impacts of the strike which “are expected to be limited at this time” on consumers.

Biden is also motivated by political calculus with the presidential election just more than a month away. Breaking up the strike with his presidential authority could damage Kamala Harris’ chances with a key union worker constituency, among which previous polls show she has struggled to maintain Biden’s levels of support. Leaving the strike unaddressed could cripple the U.S. economy—in the union boss’s own words—under his watch. Historically, a downturn in the economy rarely favors the incumbent party, which in this case would hurt Harris’ election chances.

Biden and Harris may be banking on the assessment of his federal agencies, which briefed both the president and Vice President Harris on how the strike could impact the prices of major goods. According to Politico, those agencies' assessments of the strike showed little expected impact on major goods like grain, oil, gasoline, and other fuels imports and exports.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Biden expands refugee admission to foreign nationals from multiple continents
[JustTheNews] The first authorization is to allow 125,000 “refugees of special humanitarian concern” by region from multiple continents

On the same day that President Joe Biden said he’d reduced illegal border crossings by 60% at the southwest border, he announced Monday a sweeping extension of refugee admissions for foreign nationals and “habitual residents” of countries in multiple continents.

The authorization is two-fold.

The first expands a refugee admission process to 125,000 foreign nationals from countries around the world.

The second opens a refugee admission process to foreign nationals and those with “habitual residence in” Cuba, Iraq, El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras, Eurasia, the Baltics, among others, with no numerical limitation.

Biden issued the sweeping measure through a memo issued to the Secretary of State (Presidential Determination No. 2024-13 on Refugee Admissions for Fiscal 2025), saying he was authorized to do so “by the Constitution and the laws of the United States, in accordance with section 207 of the Immigration and Nationality Act … and after appropriate consultations with Congress.”

Doing so, he says, “is justified by humanitarian concerns or is otherwise in the national interest.”

The authorization is for fiscal 2025, which begins Oct. 1.

The first authorization is to allow 125,000 “refugees of special humanitarian concern” by region from multiple continents:

  • Africa: between 30,000 and 50,000

  • East Asia: between 10,000 and 20,000

  • Europe and Central Asia: between 2,000 and 3,000

  • Latin America/Caribbean: between 35,000 and 50,000

  • Near East/South Asia: between 30,000 and 45,000

The allocation ranges “are intended to provide flexibility as needs arise, but the total admissions among all of the regions may not exceed 125,000,” the memo states.

The State Department is required to provide notification to the U.S. House and Senate Judiciary committees. It is also authorized “to transfer unused admissions allocated to a particular region to one or more other regions, if there is a need for greater admissions for the region or regions to which the admissions are being transferred.”

Biden also authorized the State Department to provide taxpayer-funded assistance to so-called refugees through the Migration and Refugee Assistance Act of 1962.

Providing taxpayer funded assistance to or on behalf of those applying as refugees and for admission to the United States, Biden says, “as part of the overseas refugee admissions program will contribute to the foreign policy interests of the United States and designate such persons for this purpose.”

The second authorization allows foreign nationals or habitual residents of the below countries to apply for refugee status:

  • Cuba

  • Eurasia and the Baltics

  • Iraq

  • El Salvador

  • Guatemala

  • Honduras.

It also states that those allowed to apply for refugee status include "in certain circumstances, persons identified by a United States Embassy or by an authorized State Department referral partner in any location," meaning from anywhere in the world.

The memo stipulates no numerical limits. If their refugee application is approved, they will receive taxpayer-funded assistance and be released into the U.S.

The authorization is for fiscal 2025 “for the purpose of admission to the United States,” the memo states.

Biden says he issued it “after appropriate consultation with the Congress.”

Caucasus/Russia/Central Asia
Ukrainian Perspective: Invasion of Ukraine: October 2, 2024
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.

Worth noting, korrespondent.net has compiled its Invasion of Ukraine series into separate months, beginning May 9th, 2023. Linked in the title.

[Korrespondent] 20:23 Zelensky reported that he heard a report from the head of the Foreign Intelligence Service, Oleg Ivashchenko: "Key things - both regarding the strengthening of the Service and our work on extremely sensitive information that our Ukrainian intelligence officers receive."

19:16 The death toll from the Russian attack on Lviv on September 4 has risen to eight - Lviv Polytechnic teacher Bohdan Kril has died in hospital, Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovyi reported.

18:58 Russians shelled the Nikopol district of the Dnipropetrovsk region throughout the day, two people were wounded, reported the head of the OVA, Serhiy Lysak.

18:33 Croatian President Zoran Milanovic has not allowed his army to take part in the NATO mission to support Ukraine, his office said. According to Milanovic, "despite the huge military aid that Ukraine receives, there is no end in sight to the war, but there is a threat that the war is spreading beyond Ukraine."

17:27 The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) is allocating $825 million to support Ukraine's energy system this winter, twice as much as last year, the agency's administrator, Samantha Power, said during a visit to Kiev. She also announced the launch of a five-year rehabilitation program for Ukrainians, Rehab for You, for which the agency has allocated $13 million. In addition, USAID will provide $237 million in humanitarian aid to Ukraine.

16:19 In occupied Berdyansk, the car of traitor judge Vitaliy Lomeiko was blown up, he died, the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense reported. Lomeiko is a judge of the Chernigov District Court of the Zaporizhia Region, who remained in Berdyansk after the occupation, violated his oath in the conditions of war and consciously and voluntarily went to cooperate with the Russians.

15:14 There are not yet enough volunteers among Ukrainians abroad to form the Ukrainian Legion, Polish Defense Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz said: "We have prepared for this. We are not responsible for recruitment. However, the number of people who were supposed to volunteer from the Ukrainian side is too small. These declarations were very high at the beginning - that even one brigade could be formed, that is, several thousand people. However, this did not happen."

15:06 Vitaly Sarantsev, spokesman for the Kharkov operational-tactical group, denied information about the use of the OGAB-9000 aerial bomb by Russian troops in Volchansk: "The use of this munition requires an appropriate carrier, which could theoretically be, for example, a Tu-160 strategic bomber. However, no movement was recorded. A munition of less weight and power was used, the explosion of which was used by propagandists to create a spectacular image."

14:38 The Washington Post writes that Russian troops in the Donetsk region in August and September seized Ukrainian territory at a rate not seen since the start of the full-scale invasion in 2022. According to the newspaper, during this period, the Russian Armed Forces increased the occupied territory across Ukraine by 511 square kilometers, about 431 of which were declared along the front between Bakhmut and Ugledar.

The publication attributes such rates to the fact that the Russian Armed Forces "have the numbers to continue the pressure, and Western aid does not compensate for the equipment deficit." Thus, in the Ugledar area, the ratio of artillery salvos sometimes reaches 10:1 in favor of the Russian Federation. WP also notes that Pokrovsk is a key road and rail junction, and the destruction of railways and bridges means that it is effectively lost.

13:58 EU ambassadors have agreed on a new sanctions regime targeting Russian hybrid threats, RFE/RL Europe Editor Rikard Jozwiak reported. The mechanism will come into force next week.

13:19 At least 589 civilians have been killed and 2,685 injured in fighting in Ukraine over the summer, up 45% from the previous three months, according to the UN.

12:55 Ukraine is withdrawing troops from Vuhledar in Donetsk Oblast due to the threat of encirclement of the city, the Operational-Strategic Group of Forces Khortytsia reported. They said that Russian troops sent reserves to carry out flank attacks, which exhausted the defense of the Ukrainian Armed Forces units, resulting in the threat of encirclement of the city. "The Supreme Command has granted permission to carry out a maneuver to withdraw units from Vuhledar in order to preserve personnel and military equipment, and to take up a position for further action," the report says.

12:47 Russian troops used a drone to strike a bus in Antonovka, Kherson region - one person was killed, two were wounded, OVA reported.

12:41 In the Shostka community of Sumy Oblast, a number of critical infrastructure facilities were destroyed as a result of a Russian attack, Shostka Mayor Nikolai Noga reported. As a result of the attack, the city of Shostka and the entire community were left without electricity and water, and communications are intermittent.

12:34 Russian military publics write that in Volchansk, Kharkov region, the Russian army allegedly used the ODAB-9000 vacuum bomb for the first time, which the media calls one of the most powerful non-nuclear munitions in the world. The estimated mass of the explosive is 7,100 kg, there is practically no official data on this munition.

12:29 In the morning, Russians struck Slavyansk in Donetsk Oblast, the head of the city's military administration Vadim Lyakh reported. A hit was recorded in a private hotel in the Molochar district, one person was injured. Private homes were also damaged.

11:58 Ukraine will receive demining equipment worth 22 million euros, the Defense Ministry reported. The coalition of demining capabilities agreed on the purchase of pickups and trucks for the needs of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and the State Special Transport Service. Lithuania is allocating 15 million euros for this purpose, Sweden - 7 million. The decision was made at a meeting in Reykjavik (Iceland).

11:26 Ukraine will increase production of drones, long-range weapons and ballistics in 2025, Defense Minister Rustem Umerov said during the second International Defense Industry Forum DFNC2: "We have already invested $4 billion in the development of Ukrainian industry, and next year we plan to increase funding. Our priority is the development of domestic drones and long-range weapons, including ballistic missiles."

More than 280 companies took part in the event and new defense agreements were signed. Zelensky said that within the framework of the forum he held a meeting with the heads and top managers of the world's leading defense companies, and discussed expanding cooperation to strengthen Ukraine's defense sector.

11:17 An air raid alarm was declared and aircraft were raised in the Romanian border area with Ukraine over the Danube on the night of October 2 due to a Russian drone attack in the south of Odessa Oblast, the Romanian Defense Ministry reported. Two Spanish F-18 fighters based at an air base in Romania and two Romanian F-16s were raised for surveillance.

10:59 The French-German defense concern KNDS, which produces Leopard tanks and Caesar howitzers, has opened a subsidiary in Kiev called KNDS Ukraine. The concern's press service reported that the company will service and repair KNDS systems, including Leopard tanks, Caesar and Gepard self-propelled guns, AMX10 RC armored vehicles, and PzH 2000 armored howitzers. In addition, KNDS and Ukroboronprom intend to jointly produce 155-mm artillery ammunition and spare parts in Ukraine.

10:03 At dawn, the enemy attacked the port and border infrastructure in the Izmail district of Odessa region with attack drones, reported the head of the OVA Oleg Kiper. As a result of the attack, two truck drivers were wounded, one of them is a Turkish citizen.

09:34 In the Kherson region, over the past day, as a result of Russian shelling, six people were killed and 11 were injured, reported the head of the OVA, Oleksandr Prokudin.

09:25 In Donetsk region on October 1, five people were wounded as a result of Russian shelling: two in Chernigovka, two in Dolgaya Balka and one in Slavyansk, reported the head of the OVA Vadim Filashkin.

09:16 Air defense destroyed 11 of 32 Shahed-type attack UAVs at night, the Air Force reported. Four enemy drones left Ukrainian airspace in the direction of Russia, and ten more were lost in the northern and central regions as a result of electronic warfare countermeasures. Air defense forces operated in the Kirovohrad, Odessa, and Sumy regions.

09:01 Officially, the Ukrainian side has neither confirmed nor denied the complete capture of Vuhledar in Donetsk Oblast, but there is no mention of it in the General Staff's morning report. For more information on the situation and the consequences of the loss of the city, see the article Vuhledar Has Fallen.

08:50 At night, Russians attacked the city of Dergachi in the Kharkiv region, five people were injured, including a 14-year-old teenager, said the head of the OVA Oleg Sinegubov. Two more people were injured the previous evening as a result of shelling of Kupyansk. Also at night, the enemy attacked Kharkiv, no one was injured.

08:17 At the Orlovka checkpoint on the border with Romania, checkpoint operations have been temporarily suspended following the Russian attack overnight, the State Border Service reported. The checkpoint is expected to open at 11:00.

07:58 The General Staff announced the estimated losses of the Russian Federation as of the morning of October 2:

  • personnel - about 655,560 (+1130) people,

  • tanks - 8887 (+4),

  • combat armored vehicles - 17,579 (+32),

  • ships/boats - 28 (+0),

  • submarines - 1 (+0),

  • automotive equipment and tank trucks - 25,692 (+71),

  • special equipment - 3318 (+4).

07:09 The American Institute for the Study of War (ISW) reports that Russian troops likely captured Vuhledar on October 1. However, it is unclear whether the Russian army will achieve rapid advancement beyond the settlement in the near future, analysts note. In addition, according to ISW, Russian troops have advanced in two areas near Pokrovsk and slightly in Vovchansk in the Kharkiv region, southwest of Kremenna in the Luhansk region and in Toretsk in the Donetsk region.

Looting Erupts After 'Biblical Floods' Devastate Southeast US, Sheriff Urges Residents To 'Carry With Safety Off'
[ZeroHedge] People in parts of the Carolinas, Tennessee, and other storm-stricken states are standing their ground as looting reports flood X. This dire situation highlights the harsh reality that when disaster strikes and the government is nowhere to be found, being prepared and armed will save your life.

Eight illegal aliens were arrested in the eastern part of Tennessee for looting following the tropical system that unleashed flash floods in Washington County. Maybe these migrants were searching 'for bread' to feed their families... We suspect not.

In Greenville County, South Carolina, just an hour south of storm-damaged Ashville, North Carolina, Greenville County Sheriff Hobart Lewis told looters his residents are "very well armed."

Just north of Greenville in western North Carolina, a video uploaded on TikTok, then X, of realtor Leigh Brown, who warned, "The looting has picked up major steam," adding, "I was advised by a county sheriff to make sure that anybody out and about is 'carrying' and in his words 'carrying with the safety off.'"

Brown said the people out in the storm-ravaged area might not be "awful people, they're desperate" as their homes and towns were wiped off the face of the map by 'biblical floods.'

Having seen videos of the others, our losses are minor compared to many immediately around us and next to nothing when looking at North GA, WNC and parts of TN.

Our neighbors called around 11pm, we now have power. But we still have a boil water order for a few days.

If the doc ok's it, we're headed back to eastern Middle Ga. this afternoon. Back roads and even some of I-20 have been mostly cleared. It seems Bubba's with their "I can do it quicker", mentality paid off.

Given local Super markets have been drained dry, we have loaded for 2 weeks and also are ready for looter issues.

The general opinion here is Trump & Musk stepped up and helped. Harris just ran her mouth.

#3  As was pointed out here yesterday, TN has a real problem with you defending your property. From a Tennessee Firearms Association email yesterday:

Tennessee law prohibits property owners from protecting themselves against looters.

Hurricane Helene struck with devastation that is unprecedented in recent memory when it hit ground at the end of September 2024. It devastated substantial parts of East Tennessee and other states with flooding, death tolls are rising, roads and infrastructure are unusable perhaps for weeks or months. Now, there are news reports that the residents in those areas are also becoming the victims of looters . But, were you aware that the laws in Tennessee, laws which have been maintained and sustained by the Republican controlled legislature, make it a crime for the affected residents to defend their homes and property from looters?

Tennessee law prohibits the use of deadly force to protect real or personal property. Tennessee Code Annotated §§ 39-11-611; 39-11-614. That means, if someone has broken into your home, your barn, your garage, or is trespassing on your land, you cannot use “deadly force” to force them to stop or to get off of your property. If someone is stealing your car, your truck, your life’s savings, your food, your generator, your fuel, your livestock or any other property, you cannot use “deadly force” to stop them or to protect your stuff.

Tennessee law also prohibits the use of deadly force in making a citizen’s arrest. Tennessee Code Annotated §39-11-621. That means if someone becomes aware that another person (e.g., looters) are on their property, stealing their stuff or perhaps has even assaulted or killed one of their family members, that individual cannot use “deadly force” to make a citizen’s arrest.

It is no answer that “well I did not fire the gun” or “I did not shoot them” or “I only pointed the gun at them.” In Tennessee, deadly force is defined by the Legislature – not by common sense. The Legislature has created this definition – “ Deadly force means force that is intended or known by the defendant to cause or, in the manner of its use or intended use, is capable of causing death or serious bodily injury. ” Tennessee Code Annotated § 39-11-602(2)(cleaned up). Thus, even the brandishment of a firearm, a knife, or anything else that is capable of causing death or serious bodily injury is the use of deadly force.

If a person, perhaps a storm victim who is being victimized by looters or trespassers, were to try to protect their property with a firearm, even if they did not fire it, by brandishing the firearm and/or perhaps yelling “stop right there or I will shoot”, that individual likely commits a felony offense of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. See, Tennessee Code Annotated § 39-13-102(a)(1)(A)(iii) (likely a Class C felony and a sentence range of 3-6 years).

Tennessee’s Legislature has tied the hands of victims by forcing them to stand by without the ability to protect their homes, lands, or the property from thieves, robbers, burglars and looters. To that extent, the Republican controlled General Assembly has victimized the innocent again. These laws should be changed so that citizens, even if not in a emergency, can effectively defend themselves, their lands, their homes and their properties from those who are willing to risk their lives to engage in criminal activity.

Tennessee Conservative News has an article today:

Tennessee Attorney General Jonathan Skrmetti said consumers affected by Hurricane Helene should be on the lookout for scams.

"Some scammers will pose as employees of the Federal Emergency Management Agency or charities, law enforcement officials said. One scam circulated through Washington and Cocke counties."

“If you are at a collection site or shelter and someone comes by stating they’re from FEMA and they need to pick up water or items, call us,” the sheriff’s offices said on their website. “This is a rumor that is false and nothing like that is going on.”

When the government does that, it's no longer legitimate. A government unable or unwilling to provide security for your life, family and property is only operating by force and cohesion.

Transport consequences of cutting off the Ugledar 'balcony'
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.

Text taken from the Telegram channel of periskop_pacific

[ColonelCassad] There are reports about cutting off the so-called "Ugledar balcony" and establishing control over Ugledar.
Also transliterated as Vuhledar, it’s a coal-mining city in the Donetsk Oblast in eastern Ukraine.
The significance of cutting off this salient with the powerful fortified area of Ugledar is operational, if not operational-strategic. The fact is that this "balcony" was located at the junction of the Zaporizhzhya and Donetsk fronts and posed a constant threat to the group covering the approaches to Mariupol. Moreover, this salient did not allow the use of a powerful two-track road to Mariupol, which was in the near rear of our troops. It was only 15-16 km from the positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. This is why they tried to take Ugledar many times, starting with a major offensive in January-February 2023, which then ended in failure.

For the railway connection with Mariupol, a more distant rocade was built from the Donbas agglomeration through Kuteynikovo - Kichiksa (judging by satellite photos, it is still unfinished). The danger of the "balcony" was clearly high, and therefore the so-called "tsar-train" 32 km long was placed on the Volnovakha section of the railway, which additionally covered this threatened direction. Now, finally, there is an opportunity to unblock the line and use it for its intended purpose, after moving the front away from Ugledar. A powerful rocade = strengthening the stability of the front and confident communication with Mariupol.

For clarity, I put a map with the front line on 7.4.2024 - it clearly shows how dangerous the Ugledar balcony was in operational terms. The second map shows how this ledge prevented the use of a powerful Soviet double-track railway.
The map can be found at the link and is marked as described.
1 - approximate LBS "Ugledar balcony" at the stage of its holding by the Armed Forces of Ukraine
2 - Yasinovatsko-Donetsk railway gap east of Avdiivka (still not restored)
3 - placement of the Tsar-train on the Volnovakha section
4 - construction of a straightening through Kuteynikovo - Kichiksu (partially ready)

Ugledar disappears from the reports of the General Staff of the Ukrainian troops
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) has stopped mentioning Ugledar in the Donetsk People's Republic in its reports from the front. This was reported on Wednesday, October 2, by the Ukrainian publication Strana.ua.

“The last time Ugledar was mentioned was in the morning report on October 1, where it was said that the Ukrainian Armed Forces repelled attacks on the city,” the message on the Telegram channel says.

Previously, this settlement appeared in reports of battles in the Vremya direction.

After this, the General Staff reported that Russian troops were "unsuccessfully" attacking Bogoyavlenka. Ugledar was no longer mentioned.

The General Staff of the Ukrainian formations also acknowledged that the situation on the line of combat contact is difficult for the Ukrainian Armed Forces, and that the Russian military is superior in manpower and equipment.

Armed Forces of Ukraine officially confirm their withdrawal from Ugledar
The Supreme Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has granted permission to withdraw Ukrainian units from Ugledar, Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) due to problems with preserving personnel and military equipment. This was reported on October 2 by the official Telegram channel of the Ukrainian operational-strategic group of forces "Khortytsia".

The Ukrainian military admitted that the Russian Armed Forces sent troops to carry out flanking attacks that exhausted the defense of the Ukrainian Armed Forces units. As a result, the city was threatened with being cordoned off.

Earlier, on October 2, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine stopped mentioning Ugledar in their reports from the front. They also acknowledged that the situation on the combat contact line is difficult for the Ukrainian military, while the Russian Armed Forces outnumber the Armed Forces of Ukraine in manpower and equipment.

On the same day, the adviser to the head of the DPR, Yan Gagin, stated that at the moment it is too early to talk about the complete liberation of Ugledar from the Ukrainian Armed Forces; the Russian military is continuing the process of clearing the city.

The head of the Kiev regime, Volodymyr Zelensky, stated a day earlier, on October 1, that the current situation on the front for the Ukrainian Armed Forces remains very, very difficult.

Chairman of the Commission on Sovereignty, Patriotic Projects and Veterans Support of the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation Vladimir Rogov said on the same day that the Russian army had liberated the southern, western and eastern parts of Ugledar. According to him, the enemy is in the north of the settlement and continues to be pushed out.

China-Japan-Koreas
Japan’s New Prime Minister: Nuclear-Armed, Anti-China ‘Asian NATO’ Is Essential
[Breitbart] The newly minted prime minister of Japan, Ishiba Shigeru, called the creation of an “Asian version of NATO” to contain China “essential” in recent remarks, Japan’s Yomiuri Shimbun reported on Sunday.

Ishiba became the nation’s prime minister on Tuesday after being elected to run the ruling conservative Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) on Friday. He replaces outgoing Prime Minister Kishida Fumio, who announced he would step down in August. Ishiba was elected to run the LDP for three years.

The Yomiuri found Ishiba’s call for the creation of an anti-China military alliance in commentary that he offered to the Hudson Institute think tank. The Institute published replies to questions, many of them related to Japan’s national security, it had sent Ishiba on September 25, with the context that he answered them before he was elected to run the LDP. His answers, the Hudson Institute noted do “not necessarily reflect his view as the next prime minister.”

Ishiba’s answers repeatedly emphasized the need of creating a NATO-like military alliance in East Asia to protect from Chinese belligerence, comparing the top threat for NATO at the moment – the Russian invasion of Ukraine – to a potential Chinese invasion of Taiwan. While Taiwan is a sovereign state, China falsely claims it as a rogue “province” and refers to its legitimate government as “separatists,” routinely threatening to invade.

Shortly before the onset of the Wuhan coronavirus pandemic, which devastated the Chinese economy, genocidal dictator Xi Jinping warned that the Taiwanese government and anyone who supports it would have their “bones ground to powder.”

“Ukraine today is Asia tomorrow,” Ishiba told the Hudson Institute. “Replacing Russia with China and Ukraine with Taiwan, the absence of a collective self-defense system like NATO in Asia means that wars are likely to break out because there is no obligation for mutual defense.”

These remarks echo some of the final writings of the late Japanese Prime Minister Abe Shinzo, who prior to his assassination in 2022 advocated for a hardline stance in defense of Ukraine from the Russian invasion and compared the situation to China’s threats against Taiwan.

“The human tragedy that has befallen Ukraine has taught us a bitter lesson. There must no longer be any room for doubt in our resolve concerning Taiwan,” Abe wrote at the time.

“Under these circumstances, the creation of an Asian version of NATO is essential to deter China by its Western allies,” Ishiba added in his comments to the Hudson Institute.

Ishiba also noted that Japan’s enemies, most prominent Russia and North Korea, are increasingly committing to defending each other from any potential military entanglement. Russian strongman Vladimir Putin signed a mutual defense agreement with dictator Kim Jong-un in Pyongyang in June. Russia and Japan, while not actively hostile to each other, are in a technical state of war since World War II, as they have not agreed to any peace treaty or other method of ending the war.

“Recently, Russia and North Korea have formed a military alliance, and nuclear technology is being transferred from Russia to North Korea,” Ishiba said. “North Korea is strengthening its nuclear and missile capabilities, and if China’s strategic nuclear weapons are added to these dynamics, the US extended deterrence in the region will no longer function.”

“This is to be supplemented by an Asian version of NATO, which must ensure deterrence against the nuclear alliance of China, Russia, and North Korea,” he continued. “The Asian version of NATO must also specifically consider America’s sharing of nuclear weapons or the introduction of nuclear weapons into the region.”

Ishiba also proposed greatly strengthening the relationship between Japan and America, comparing his ideal to the “special relationship” between Washington and London.

“The current Japan-US security treaty is structured so that the US is obligated to ‘defend’ Japan, and Japan is obligated to ‘provide bases’ to the US,” he noted. “The time is ripe to change this ‘asymmetrical bilateral treaty.'”

Ishiba, a longtime LDP stalwart, defeated a record eight other candidates for the leadership of the LDP last week. A lawmaker since 1986, Ishiba vocally supports expanding the Japanese Self-Defense Forces (SDF) ability to act, opposing pacifist calls to maintain the longstanding policy of not having a formal military. Ishiba lost some support from Japanese conservatives on domestic issues, however, for supporting same-sex marriages, and for joining the chorus of those who believed that Kishida should give up the prime ministership.

Kishida announced he would step down in August after polling showed him growing increasingly unpopular, alongside his ruling party. Kishida noted the damage that a variety of scandals – most involving political corruption, some involving ties to the notorious Unification Church – had done to the LDP’s public standing, declaring, “politics cannot function without public trust.”

The Unification Church, an organization widely referred to as a cult and known for its eccentric founder Rev. Sun Myung-moon, developed ties with many high-ranking politicians and became embroiled in fundraising scandals. Abe’s assassin, Yamagami Tetsuya, told police that he targeted Abe because of his ties to the Church. Yamagami said that his mother had been a longtime member of the church and fell into bankruptcy while donating her money to the Unification Church, leaving his family destitute. The Church ultimately confirmed that Yamagami Yoko, his mother, was a member.

Abe reportedly made appearances at events with ties to the Unification Church, but he was not a member. Following his assassination, several high-ranking LDP members were also exposed as having ties to the Church, sending the party’s approval ratings into a tailspin.

Despite the LDP’s woes in the past year, it still counts on the lack of a formidable, unified Japanese left existing on a national level. Even in the throes of some of its lowest approval ratings under Kishida, for example, the LDP kept the governorship of Tokyo in an election in July in which the top rival was endorsed by the Japanese Communist Party – but who had to compete with a record 55 other candidates for media attention.

The Russian Armed Forces have managed to reduce the distance in the Glushkovka area the most. The distance between the settlement and the advanced units of the Russian troops has been reduced to about 3 km," Marochko wrote on his Telegram channel.

08:04 Russian forces have struck an ammunition depot in the suburbs of Khar'kov, said Lebedev, coordinator of the Nikolaev pro-Russian resistance.

08:00 The 122mm BM-21 Grad MLRS crews of the Separate Guards Marine Brigade of the North Forces Group continue to fulfill combat missions to destroy military equipment and concentrations of Ukrainian Armed Forces manpower in the border area of the Kursk region.

Russian Embassy recommends that Russians refrain from traveling to Iran
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Regnum] Due to the escalation of the situation in the Middle East region following the Iranian military's missile attack on Israel, Russians are advised to refrain from traveling to Iran until the situation stabilizes. This was reported on October 2 by the Russian Embassy in Tehran.

“In connection with the aggravation of the situation around Iran, the Russian Embassy recommends that citizens of the Russian Federation temporarily, until the situation normalizes, refrain from traveling to the Islamic Republic of Iran,” the diplomatic mission said in a message on its Telegram channel.

Earlier, the Russian embassy called on compatriots in Iran to refrain from taking photos and videos on the streets and not to give in to the panic that ill-wishers are trying to sow on social networks.

As reported by Regnum News Agency, on the night of October 1, Tel Aviv announced the start of a ground operation in southern Lebanon. According to the Israeli military, they will conduct localized raids to destroy the infrastructure of the Lebanese Shiite movement Hezbollah.

On the evening of October 1, the Iranian military launched a massive missile attack on Israel. According to The Jerusalem Post, about 400 missiles were fired at the territory of the Jewish state.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said on October 2 that Iran's action against Israel is over unless Tel Aviv responds. In turn, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called Iran's missile attack a big mistake for which Tehran will pay.

Later that day, the American portal Axios wrote that the Israeli authorities were going to respond to the Iranian missile strike within “several days.” It was noted that Tel Aviv had already made a decision on how to respond to the Iranian attack, but had not yet determined how exactly this would be done.

The New York Times reported on October 2 that Iran has prepared hundreds of missiles in case Israel or the United States responds to an Iranian attack. According to two representatives of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, these missiles are located on the western borders of the Islamic Republic.

On October 2, the press secretary of the Russian president, Dmitry Peskov, said that Moscow calls for restraint on the part of the Middle East conflict. He emphasized that the Russian side also condemns actions that lead to the death of civilians.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Hero Israeli reveals how he chased Tel Aviv massacre gunmen in his sandals before shooting one of them dead after seeing rampage unfold; 6 of 7 victims identified, more details about the attack revealed
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news] Lev Kraitman saved 20 people from the Nova massacre before serving in Gaza.

The hero who gunned down one of the Jaffa terrorists has told how he chased them in his sandals before shooting them with his pistol.

Lev Kraitman was eating schnitzel in the old port area of Tel Aviv when he heard gunshots. Without hesitating, he dashed to the light railway station where they were on a rampage knifing and shooting anyone they came across.

Lev, who saved 20 people from the Nova massacre last year before serving in Gaza, pulled out his weapon and confronted the attackers – shooting one of them dead. Incredible footage shows him running after them in his sandals as he fires forcing the other to flee.

Lev tended to the wounded before emergency services arrived and the second terrorist was eliminated shortly afterwards.

Authorities later confirmed seven people died and 11 were injured in the attack which came just minutes before Iran's terrifying 180 missile strike on Israel.

Speaking exclusively to the Daily Mail, Lev said: 'I live right above the light rail station in Jaffa, and I had just finished work and was hungry as I didn't have anything in.

'I went downstairs to the schnitzel restaurant and that is when I heard gunfire.

'I have been serving in Gaza for the last six months, doing reconnaissance, looking for tunnels, and we lost a dear brother from our platoon so I instantly recognised the noise. It's unmistakable.

'I saw the next tram approaching and tried to stop it but it didn't stop, when it moved away that is when I saw dead people on the ground of the station.

'That is also the moment when I saw two terrorists. One started to run in my direction. At this point I was mobbing behind trash cans, hiding in alleyways but kept sight of him.

'I shot at him - I shot a lot of rounds as I had a pistol and was at a distance, one hit him and then he ran and then fell down.

'I immediately ran to the wounded but I knew they had already died. The local people came and made sure the terrorist was dead.

'At that point I was with the wounded in the station trying to see who was dead and who was alive.

'I was full of adrenaline so didn't register, I checked if they were alive but they were not. I saw three dead in the street of the station. A fourth was a person who we thought was dead but started moving, I wish I knew his name and I hope he survived. He did look seriously injured.'

Chilling footage shows the two terrorists stalking victims at the station on their deadly rampage just a day before the Jewish New Year. Video shows a gunman and another suspect dressed in all black prowling along a light rail station before opening fire. A volley of shots was unleashed before anguished screams were heard and more shots rang out. The suspects then turned around and began advancing along the other side of the platform where bodies were later seen piling up in a separate clip.

According to local police, the two armed men were 'neutralized' by security forces.

Last night was not the first time Lev has been a hero after he saved 20 people from death at the Nova festival on October 7.

'I was besides Nova, I work for Midburn which is the Israeli version of Burning Man,' he said. 'On October 7 I was with volunteers for Midburn two miles from nova, it was a production weekend, it wasn't at Nova.

'On the morning on October 7 we all hid, and waited for the army. We rescued people from nova, we were in the same situation as them stuck in the field because we didn't know what was going on outside with terrorists all around.

'We stayed there as we knew terrorists were driving back and forth. At around 5pm we decided that we would line up our cars, put the gas to the floor and go, taking 15-20 youngsters with us in the back of our car.'

After what he has witnessed these past 12 months, Lev is never without his gun.

'I carry a weapon in Israel because the reality is something is always going to happen and I am on reserve duty,' he said. 'The fact I had come out from Gaza put me on alert anyway.'

Asked if he was a hero, Lev told the Mail: 'I wish I had done better. I wish I could have taken the other one out.

'It's very flattering, but it feels weird. I don't feel like a hero.'

Remarking on his footwear, which has gone viral in Israel, Lev said: 'I always wear these sandals.'

Asked what he was doing now, he said: 'The whole world is trying to call me – it's a lot. I think I'll just go to bed. I want to figure out my holiday schedule.'
May you and yours be written in the Book of Life for health and happiness, Mr. Kraitman.

Six victims of Jaffa terror attack named, as more details about shooting emerge
I guess the original explanation that it was criminal in-fighting was wrong.
[IsraelTimes] Hamas claims attack; Ben Gvir suggests nearby mosque involved, should be destroyed; in fact, terrorists threatened worshippers there before carrying out the attack, congregants say

Authorities on Wednesday named six of the seven people killed in Tuesday night’s terror attack at a light rail station in Jaffa, as new details emerged on the two terrorists who carried it out, and the Israeli military imposed a closure on their hometown of Hebron in the West Bank.

Hamas took responsibility for the attack Wednesday, saying its perpetrators, Mohammad Mesek and Ahmed Himouni, were members of the terror group.

Seven people were killed and 16 others wounded in the attack on the Tel Aviv light rail and a nearby road in Jaffa, in one of the deadliest terror attacks in recent memory.

The terrorists, meanwhile, were named as Mohammad Mesek, 19, who was killed at the scene, and Ahmed Himouni, 25, who was seriously injured. Both men are Palestinians from the West Bank city of Hebron who were in Israel proper without a permit.

Diana Svertzov, an Israeli rhythmic gymnast who won a silver medal at the Paris Olympics, was at the light rail station at the time of the attack, and told Channel 12 that the terrorists did not seem suspicious, and one of them was wearing a pin representing solidarity with Israelis held hostage in Gaza by the Hamas terror group.

“One of them looked at my Olympics necklace and smiled at me. They didn’t look like terrorists. One of them had an M16 rifle, and the other one was in a polo shirt, with a hostage pin. There was no reason to be suspicious. It never crossed my mind, what was about to happen,” she said.

Reservists in Israel are often seen carrying rifles while wearing their civilian clothes.

The Israel Defense Forces has imposed a closure on Hebron, the terrorists’ hometown, and on Wednesday, the IDF said it had detained and questioned several people on suspicion of aiding the terrorists in purchasing the assault rifle used in the attack and infiltrating Israel.

It was also revealed on Wednesday that before carrying out the attack, the terrorists entered the Al-Nuzha Mosque, stashed their bags in the mosque’s bathroom, and threatened worshippers not to leave.

One of the terrorists “opened the door, with an M16 in his hand,” Ali, a member of the congregation, told the Ynet news site. He noted that the terrorist had entered the mosque through the women’s entrance.

“He just peeked his head in, and said, ‘Nobody go outside! Anyone who goes out is a dead man,’ and he left. The second one waited outside. They closed the doors, we called the police, and we heard shooting,” Ali said.

Another congregant, identified only by his first Hebrew initial Dalet, told Ynet that the men initially entered the mosque with large backpacks, which they left in the bathroom and from which they took their weapons.

The relation between the two accounts was not immediately clear.

The events at the mosque were spotlighted after National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir declared at the scene of the attack on Tuesday that if the terrorists were revealed to have used the mosque for carrying out the attack, the house of worship must be destroyed — comments that sparked immediate backlash.

Tensions in Israel and the West Bank have soared since October 7. Since then, 40 Israelis, including security personnel, have been killed in Palestinian terror attacks in Israel and the West Bank — including in Tuesday’s attack. Another five members of the security forces were killed in clashes with terror operatives in the West Bank.

Lebanon in immediate need of a ceasefire: caretaker PM
Yes, you are. Oh well. Consider surrendering to Israel instead of to Hezbollah, and perhaps something can be arranged.
[GEO.TV] Lebanon's caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati said the country needed a ceasefire in hostilities between Israel and armed group Hezbollah, saying around 1.2 million people in Lebanon had been displaced by Israeli attacks.

"Stop fighting. We don't need more blood. We don't need more destruction," Mikati said in an online briefing organised by the American Task Force on Lebanon, a US-based non-profit.

"There is an immediate need for a ceasefire."

Mikati said a diplomatic end to the escalating war would be a "win-win" for Israel and Lebanon and "all parties" would respect such a deal.

The caretaker premier said he hoped to deploy 10,000 Lebanese army troops in the south if a ceasefire is agreed.

Baku analysts assess the impact of military escalation between Iran and Israel on Azerbaijan
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[KavkazUzel] The military escalation between Iran and Israel will have consequences for neighboring countries, including Azerbaijan, Baku analysts interviewed by the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent suggested. Baku should remain neutral in this conflict, they emphasized.

As the "Caucasian Knot" wrote, relations between Iran and Azerbaijan have worsened against the backdrop of Baku's plans to implement the Zangezur Corridor project through Armenia. In October-November 2022, both countries held military exercises near the border and exchanged mutual accusations of terrorist and sabotage activities. These accusations have become an element of the information war and evidence of the deterioration of relations between the two countries,   analysts interviewed by the "Caucasian Knot" noted.

Iran launched its second major attack on Israel in six months on Tuesday evening, October 1, firing more than 180 ballistic missiles at Israeli territory. Most of them were shot down by Israel and the "US-led defense coalition,"
…primarily the US Navy and Jordan, it was reported yesterday…
the Israeli army (IDF) said in a statement on its Telegram channel.

Axios, citing Israeli officials, reported on the morning of October 2 that Israel would launch "serious retaliation" in response to a massive Iranian missile attack within a few days. In particular, strikes could be carried out on Iranian oil production facilities and other strategic sites, the publication writes. In addition, Israeli officials admit that the IDF could strike Iran's nuclear facilities in the event of a repeat attack.

Israel's retaliatory strike against Iran is inevitable, believes the editor and analyst of the Turan news agency, Shahin Gadzhiev. "Of course, given that a retaliatory strike against Iran could lead to a regional war,
…that rather depends on how strong that retaliation happens to be, of course…
actions in this direction will be thought out and probably restrained, especially since the US is not a supporter of escalation. But time will tell how events will develop," Gadzhiev told a "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

In any case, an armed escalation between Israel and Iran will have consequences for neighboring countries and the region. "It is enough to note that flights through the airspace of Iran, Israel and a number of neighboring countries have already been significantly limited. This will also affect trade and political relations. It is possible that relations between Iran and Azerbaijan and Saudi Arabia, which do not support Tehran's position on events in the Middle East, will worsen. If a large-scale war breaks out, not only the countries of the region will be involved in it, but major powers will intervene. This will lead to instability and uncertainty," Gadzhiev noted.

He is confident that Iran will not threaten Azerbaijan with military strikes given the close partnership between Baku and Tel Aviv. Hajiyev stressed that there is no evidence that cooperation between Azerbaijan and Israel is directed against Iran. Azerbaijan also has a military alliance with Turkey, and Tehran will not risk a conflict with Ankara, which has the second largest army in NATO, in such a situation.

In his opinion, Russia will also not tolerate a military escalation near its southern borders, especially since it has been building up a mutually beneficial partnership with Azerbaijan in recent years, the analyst continued. In addition, Azerbaijan carries out important hydrocarbon deliveries to Europe, and the beneficiaries of these projects are Western companies, and a threat to these routes will only create additional problems and risks for Iran.

Finally, Hajiyev noted, for Iran itself, now in the conditions of regional isolation, a window through Azerbaijan is very important for the development of transport links with the outside world in the northern direction, and above all with Russia.

According to the former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, Tofig Zulfgurov, even if events develop along the path of escalating armed confrontation, the period of military action will be short-lived.

"I would like to believe that in relations between Iran and the West, which have influence on Israel, both sides intend to achieve a balance of interests," he said.

In his opinion, after Israel's retaliatory strikes, negotiations on détente between the West and Iran may begin.

In his opinion, if negotiations between Iran and the West begin, the consequences of the current escalation in the region will be minimized. In any case, he said, Azerbaijan should take a neutral position in this conflict, which is in its own interests, as well as important for the international community.

"Due to the military escalation, many airlines are asking for permission to use Azerbaijan's airspace and refuel aircraft at the Baku airport," Zulfugarov said.

Given the instability to the north and south of Azerbaijan, many centers of power will try to help Baku maintain its own stability, given that important transport routes between the West and the East pass through the country, the former head of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry said.

Confrontation and military operations in the region are not in the interests of Azerbaijan, says Asim Mollazade, a member of the Azerbaijani parliament and chairman of the Democratic Reforms Party. In his opinion, it is important for Baku to end military actions. At the same time, the actual alliance between Iran and Armenia, and Tehran's serious support for Yerevan, is causing concern for Azerbaijan.

"Iran supports Armenia and also creates an obstacle to the opening of transport communications in the region, and in particular, the Zangezur corridor. This negatively affects the strategic plans of Azerbaijan. But this disrupts the plans of not only Baku, but also other states close to the region, since Azerbaijan's communications are located on the routes of international transport corridors," Mollazade told a "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

He believes that, as part of international efforts to defuse the situation in the Middle East, the issue of removing Iran’s obstacles to the development of international transport corridors through Azerbaijan should also be addressed.

Another member of the Azerbaijani parliament, political scientist Rasim Musabeyov, called the prospects of an Iranian-Israeli confrontation dangerous.

"Iran launched missile strikes against Israel. In turn, Israel states that these strikes will not go unanswered. The growing military escalation does not bode well for Azerbaijan, as a neighboring state.

In case of strikes on Iranian seaports, Azerbaijan's transportation from the Persian Gulf countries will suffer. In addition, Azerbaijan's land communication with the Nakhchivan region passes through Iran. All this creates risks for Azerbaijan. Of course, we will welcome it if it is possible to avoid a confrontational development of events. Unfortunately, we ourselves cannot influence this. We must simply try to ensure that tensions do not approach the borders of Azerbaijan," Musabeyov said.

He also noted that the military escalation between Israel and Iran has already had a negative impact on international flights, including travel by Azerbaijani citizens. "Iran's airspace is closed, and there are no flights there. On the other hand, there were six flights a week from Baku to Israel. This in itself is an impact of the consequences (of the military escalation between Iran and Israel) on Azerbaijan," Musabeyov noted.

Official Baku has not yet responded to the military escalation between Iran and Israel. Representatives of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry were unavailable for comment.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
The results of the Iranian strike show that Israel has not learned its lessons
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
by Leonid Tsukanov
That’s certainly one opinion.
[REGNUM] After almost two months of preparation and promises, Iran launched a missile strike on Israeli territory. According to official data, about 180 ballistic missiles were launched in several waves from Iranian territory. In the first hours of the operation, various sources even cited a figure of up to 600 warheads.

The order to begin the operation was given personally by Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, which was intended to emphasize the Iranians' determination and the lack of any behind-the-scenes agreements with the West.

The retaliation operation was, without further ado, dubbed "True Promise 2." Official Tehran responded to a series of Israeli successes in eliminating key figures of the "Axis of Resistance." The "package avengers" were the head of the Hamas Politburo Ismail Haniyeh, the Secretary General of Hezbollah Hassan Nasrallah, and several dozen other commanders of lower rank.

It is noteworthy that at the start of the operation, official Tehran in some sense "mirrored" the Israeli tactics. The US and other foreign powers were notified through diplomatic channels about the start of the operation practically after the fact, when the first missile launches had already taken place. Apparently, Washington was repaid for its "ignorance" of Tel Aviv's actions in the Lebanese direction.

LESSONS UNLEARNED
Despite the fact that Iran's retaliatory strike was predictable and essentially a matter of time, the Israeli side was somewhat relaxed. The lack of a prompt response to the deaths of Haniyeh and Nasrallah gave confidence that Tehran was aiming to reset the dialogue with Washington - in exchange for regional concessions, and therefore would not defend the interests of the Resistance.

The results of the night strike also demonstrated that Tel Aviv had not learned the lessons of the April events and, moreover, relied too heavily on the assistance of regional partners, as well as American and European contingents.

However, in practice it turned out that Israel’s “support group” has noticeably thinned out since the spring – not a single Arabian monarchy has joined in the defense of Israeli airspace, not even Bahrain and the UAE, which claim the status of strategic partners of Tel Aviv.

The European forces in the region also did not take a significant part, although France and Britain claim the opposite and demonstrate their concern about the situation in every possible way.

The main burden of responsibility for supporting Israel's air defense fell on the United States, which had to quickly deploy destroyers in the Mediterranean, and on Jordan. However, the latter concentrated exclusively on defending the border areas and clearly did not want to get into trouble.

The events of the previous night confirmed that Iran is quite well aware of the locations of key Israeli military installations. And, more importantly, it is quite capable of penetrating the enemy's air defenses without using a swarm of drones, as was the case in April.

And while claims of damage vary widely—for example, the Israelis deny losing more than 20 F-35 fighters (almost the entire forward fleet)—the fact that Tel Aviv hit several air bases and communications centers is not disputed.

Finally, Tehran conveniently used the moment for native advertising of its own defense industry, successfully using the Fattah hypersonic missile during a strike on the enemy, which a couple of months before had been ridiculed in the Israeli press and considered a “Persian invention.”

THE CIRCLE OF "DECISIVE ANSWERS"
Perhaps the key task that Iran managed to accomplish with its attack was to demonstrate to Iranian society (and, at the same time, to the remaining leaders of proxy groups) Tehran’s readiness to escalate in order to protect its strategic interests.

It was possible to remove the brewing discontent with the reformist government led by Masoud Pezeshkian and to exclude the existence of behind-the-scenes agreements between Iran and the United States at one go. In addition, it was very clearly demonstrated that the word of the Supreme Leader is immutable, and strategic guidelines are unshakable. Especially when it comes to protecting collective interests in the Middle East.

And while Tehran apparently failed to achieve a cumulative effect from the attack (since other Axis members did not join in), the incident clearly cooled the Israelis' ardor. At least the level of bravado regarding the balance of power has diminished over the past 24 hours.

However, official Tel Aviv did not remain in confusion for long.

The Israeli government almost immediately returned to its previous rhetoric, promising a “significant and crushing response” to Tehran’s actions. Washington made similar assessments, noting that Iran had made an “unforgivable mistake.”

The desire of Israel and the US to swing their fists after a fight is easy to explain. In the first case, it is important for the government of Benjamin Netanyahu to maintain a positive information background around the conflict with Tehran and the public's conviction that in this confrontation, it is Tel Aviv that is "in the lead".

For the US, the escalating conflict in the Middle East is important in terms of preparing for a new electoral cycle. It doesn’t matter who wins the election, the Republicans or the Democrats, each side will be able to turn the “Iranian threat” in its own way.

For Democrats, it will become a convenient basis for building a system of collective defense in the Middle East to counter the growing influence of Tehran. For Republicans, it will be a basis for tightening the “sanctions screws” and refusing to reset the dialogue.

At the same time, the following “decisive responses” from Tehran and Tel Aviv to each other’s attacks will be more of a background nature. Each side will seek to use the opponent’s fears to consolidate the new status quo in the region.

Boris Rozhin: Changing nature of military operations in Kursk region

[ColonelCassad] Kursk region: changing nature of military operations in the direction and enemy tactics

For two weeks now, the nature of military actions in the Kursk tactical direction has been moving significantly towards the "SVO", namely, trench warfare and local offensives in areas. The enemy command, having joined this adventure, quickly understood what and how, and after the attack on the Kursk NPP turned out to be unsuccessful, decided to build defensive structures in the territories under its control.

If at first we encountered the "old" format of war, where there were small arms battles, ambushes and artillery exchanges, now the general picture of military actions is moving into the channel we are accustomed to - the enemy digs in, and we pick at him. Perhaps I will write about this below.

So, what we have at this stage: the groups of the Special Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and foreign mercenaries have been mostly withdrawn from combat missions, where they were rotated by regular units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, consisting of whoever came along. But "anybody" has a completely different combat tactic - if you can conduct a small-arms fight with special forces almost in the open, then the victims of the TCC and other Ukrainian Armed Forces tend to quickly dig in upon arrival at the position, as a result of which you have to literally pick at their positions, which from a military point of view is serious work.

The enemy also actively changes logistics routes, preferring hastily created crossings and fields to main roads. This increases the time of delivery/evacuation, but allows the enemy to more or less preserve the personnel involved in the above-mentioned activities.

Together with regular units, the enemy pulls in UAV specialists - sometimes they work almost from the front line, brazenly, hoping that they will catch our units by surprise, but we have found a countermeasure to these "jokes". Active use of not only FPV, but also Baba Yaga agrodrones is recorded, with the help of which the enemy is trying to burn down civilian houses and conduct remote mining of the area.

The strategic initiative of the enemy after the failure of the "counteroffensive" in the Kursk region is generally clear: having an endless human resource (TCK will catch more), the Armed Forces of Ukraine are going to tie down units of the Russian Armed Forces in battles in the Kursk region, in order to subsequently strike in another direction.

We continue to work in this direction.
