Rachel Levine sworn in as first openly transgender four-star admiral
Guess I missed this in March.
Or I went blind.

It's ma'am!

[FoxNews] U.S. Assistant Health Secretary Dr. Rachel Levine became the first openly transgender four-star officer in the uniformed services on Tuesday after she was sworn in as the first female four-star admiral of the U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps.

The Department of Health and Human Services announced Tuesday that Levine was ceremonially sworn in as a four-star admiral, making her the highest ranking official in the commissioned corps and leading 6,000 Public Health Service officers.

The former Pennsylvania health secretary became the nation's highest-ranking openly transgender official in March after being nominated by President Biden.

Economy
Shortages now being blamed on Americans
[Business Insider] Americans are buying everything they can get their hands on, and they'd be buying even more if it weren't for those pesky supply-chain snarls, the National Retail Federation said.

"Spending might have been higher if not for shortages of items consumers are eager to purchase," Jack Kleinhenz, the NRF's chief economist, said in a statement issued on Friday.

Those shortages seem so ubiquitous that the term "everything shortage" is now being used liberally to describe consumers' frustration as they try to get goods of all sorts: paper towels, milk, toys, and more.

Yet claims that the country is running short on everything miss a key point. America has, in fact, imported an immense amount of stuff in the past eight months. And that's part of the reason we're in the midst of an epic supply-chain congestion.

Australian Premier Promises to Keep Unvaccinated People Locked Out of Economy into 2022, And Warns Vaccinated Citizens They Too Will Be Locked Down if They Attempt to Avoid Booster Shots
[ConservativeTreehouse] In the state of Victoria, Australia, Premier Daniel Andrews again affirmed his intent to keep all unvaccinated citizens isolated, marginalized and locked out of the economy deep into 2022. Simultaneously, Andrews warns the vaccinated citizens that if they attempt to avoid any booster shots, as determined by the state, the vaccinated will join the unvaccinated group in being locked down.

Perhaps this threat will alarm the citizens that have been vaccinated. Just because they are compliant today, if the vaccinated class attempt to defy the government boosters 3, 4, 5, 6,... etc, they will be cast back into the second class world of the unvaccinated disposable group.

Afghanistan
Gen. Keith Kellogg: Our military and the alarming disappearance of accountability
[FOX] Accountability remains one of the most important tenets in leadership and, until recently, was a crucial component to success in the military. Accountability develops trust, demonstrates stewardship, and influences decision-making. By virtue of its necessity, it is interwoven into nearly every aspect of life in uniform. Troop formations, combat success, physical fitness tests, individual performance reports, financial liability investigations for property loss -- all are mechanisms and tools of accountability.

Dangerously, accountability in decision making at the highest levels of the military appears to have all but disappeared. Over the past decade, stars on shoulders became Afghan participation trophies and we all but celebrated mediocrity in our leaders.

As Kabul fell so did our trust and faith in our military senior leaders. The chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan and the ’just-for-show’ hearings in Congress that followed indicate the weakness and inability of our uniformed and elected leaders to accept the most fundamental aspect of their job...accountability.

#1  It predates Kabul by a long run. How many failed programs have they recycled through senior officers all the time giving each departee one of them 'happy - glad' tour medals? That's been going on for decades.

How many officers violated regulations and the result was amending the regulations with another paragraph or paragraphs of instruction rather than hold the miscreant responsible and as an example to others? That has been going on for decades.

Caucasus/Russia/Central Asia
Western countries training far-right extremists in Ukraine - report
[Jpost] Canada, the US, France, the UK and other Western countries have helped train far-right extremists in Ukraine, a report by the Institute for European, Russian, and Eurasian Studies (IERES) at George Washington University revealed last month.

The report found that members of Centuria, a far-right organization intent on reshaping Ukraine's military to align with its ideology, received training from Western countries while at the Hetman Petro Sahaidachny National Army Academy (NAA).

Centuria describes itself as a military order of "European traditionalist" military officers who aim to "defend" the "cultural and ethnic identity" of European peoples against "Brussels’ politicos and bureaucrats," according to the report. The group is led by people with ties to Ukraine's far-right Azov movement. Members have been photographed giving Nazi salutes and have made extremist statements online.

One of the leaders of Centuria wrote on VK in 2016 that Jews were "the destruction of humanity" and shared a post saying that Jews had tried to "exclude Ukraine from world history and the map of the world.” Ukraine's current president, Volodymyr Zelensky, is Jewish.

The group has claimed that its members have taken part in joint military exercises with France, the UK, Canada, the US, Germany, and Poland. One apparent member of the group, then NAA cadet Kyrylo Dubrovskyi, took part in an 11-month officer training course at the UK's Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in 2020.

The NAA receives and has access to funding and training from a number of Western countries.

Canadian Defence Attaché in Ukraine, Colonel Robert Foster, told IERES that Canada trusted Ukraine to screen recipients of Canadian training and that Canada would not entertain training extremists.

“I think we are at a point where, in the event that we did find a Ukrainian that was expressing or showing signs of that type of attitude, then they would be ejected from any training that the Canadians would provide,” said Foster.

One NAA cadet was apparently involved as a firearms instructor with an Azov-linked far-right group that the United Jewish Community of Ukraine accused of spreading antisemitic propoganda in 2021. Cadets at the academy have also been photographed giving the Nazi salute, despite NAA's insistence that it has no tolerance for extremism.

The NNA denied to the IERES that Centuria was operating within the academy and said a probe into the group's alleged activities had turned up no evidence of such activities. The Ukrainian Defense Ministry told IERES that it does not screen military recruits or cadets for extremist views and ties, while several Western governments training and arming Ukrainian troops said Ukraine was responsible for vetting the soldiers.

About 20 people are involved with Centuria, according to the report. Videos and photos collected by IERES show NAA cadets posing with Centuria banners and wearing Centuria patches and members of the organization at political events.

A Centuria member told the KP.ua Ukrainian media outlet in 2020 that NAA and the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine were both "aware of the Order’s existence and have not voiced any opposition to efforts to form an elite core of officers." The member added that Centuria worked with a number of other military education institutions and armed forces units.

Centuria members have also apparently held events on the premises of the Academy, including a lecture in 2018 which featured the recitation of a nationalistic text from before WWII.

Centuria has called for its members to transfer to specific units where the group's members serve and attracts new members through its Telegram channel, which has over 1,200 followers. The organization has become more secretive since IERES began tracking its online presence in early 2019, switching through multiple Telegram channels and deactivating Facebook, Instagram and VK accounts.

The US Congress has banned the use of US funding to "provide arms, training, or other assistance to the Azov Battalion," meaning that Centuria, which has apparent ties to the Azov Movement, likely should not have received the training it claims it has received from the US.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Israel gives WB residency status to 4,000 undocumented Palestinians
[Jpost] In the first gesture of its kind in 12 years, Israel has granted residency status to 4,000 undocumented Palestinians living in the West Bank.

“The move is part of my policy to strengthen the economy and improve the lives of Palestinians in Judea and Samaria,” Defense Minister Benny Gantz tweeted Tuesday.

He had promised Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, when they met in August, that he would legalize the status of a small number of Palestinians out of what is estimated to be well over 30,000 people who are in a similar predicament.

At issue are Palestinians who live in all areas of the West Bank, but who lack PA identification papers because Israel has not signed off on such paperwork since 2009.

The PA registers the birth of Palestinians born in the West Bank in the population registry that it controls and issues identification papers to residents under its auspices, including in Area C of the West Bank, which is under Israeli military and civilian control.

Israel has not involved itself in that process.

Phil Collins' battle of the Alamo: Genesis frontman is caught in US race row after his donation of £10m worth of memorabilia for museum is accused of 'glorifying myth of a handful of whites against a Mexican horde'
  • [Daily Mail, Where America Gets Its News] Collins, 70, has been obsessed since childhood with the battle and even believes he is a reincarnation of one of those defenders

  • The Genesis frontman donated his hoard is weapons, clothing, letters and other artefacts from the legendary siege of the Alamo of 1836

  • Critics argue the collection helps perpetuate a narrative that focuses only on the battle's white leaders and ignores Latinos, Native Americans and black figures
Dunno about blacks and Injuns, except for Travis' slave, Joe, but the rest were considered Texians. The white ones intermarried cheerfully with the Texicans. Juan Seguin would have died with Davy Crockett and William Barrett Travis and Jim Bowie and the rest, had he not been sent to bring reinforcements and the "Never Surrender" message to Sam Houston. Juana Navarro Alsbury was the one who warned the defenders of Santa Anna's approach. Gregorio Esparza's brother was on the Mexican side. His brother Francisco was given permission to give him a decent burial.

#3  What we are now seeing is the results of the political component of MAD (mutually assured destruction) breaking down. Our enemies perceive that the USA will not respond to a nuclear attack on our territory with an overwhelming response. If they attack during a GOPe administration, they can count on the deps to tie the government up in knots and if they attack during a dem administration, they can count on a total surrender between the time the attacking missile launch is detected and the impact of the warhead(s). In either case, the Pentagon will be loath to become involved in any retaliation as all their new woke dogmas tell them it's just rayciss.

They could kill every single one of us (not quite doable during the actual attack, but within the realm of practicality afterwards)and we could take out one Chinese citizen for every one of ours lost...and they would still have more than a billion souls left.

I know perfectly well that there's more to it than that, but to the megalomaniacs who seem to be making Chinese policy these days the math is quite clear: they win.

#6  The US' response to a mass fatality war crime attack on the CONUS was an expensive therapeutic intervention (coupled with political and cultural appeasement) that ended in the US' and NATO's humiliating and shameful defeat.

Any rational adversary will take this precedent strongly into account when evaluating a potential response by the US; just as any such adversary decades earlier would have taken into account the response to Pearl Harbor.

The lesson of the 9/11 war is that a war crime attack on the US killing thousands of civilians is a winning move militarily, politically and culturally.

If there's no perceived political will to retaliate, there's no deterrence. War head gaps and missile gaps become irrelevant.

#11  OK, get it in perspective. They have supersonic missiles. Our delivery systems are super sonic as well. This is just hype. Once the missile gets into space, it goes super sonic. They cant shoot down what we already have for retaliation. China also has nuclear mines in space, and I assume others do as well. And we have our subs. This is one race we can still dominate and not get all worked up about.

But at the end of the day China could hand carry it here and our bumbling president and congress will argue over which political party is to blame and never stop it or retaliate.

IIRC, 85% of Chinese population is concentrated on less than 20% of their land area in the coastal plains along the rivers and in the major coastal cities. The US has enough nuclear weapons to turn that area into one large radioactive firestorm -- though the very thought of that action is repugnant. The "peasant in their rice fields" China that could outlast the invading Mongols and Japanese is not the urbanized China of today.

Unfortunately, as Mike said, the Chinese could very well start World War III in the same manner the Imperial Japan started their corner of WW2.

#14  The Chinese put a gliding reentry vehicle on a big honking booster rocket. That makes attacks going over the south pole (or pretty much any angle) possible. That avoids the antimissile defenses in Alaska and California, but not necessarily, shipboard antimissile defenses. The glide vehicle, by maneuvering, can theoretically outrun antimissile defenses by presenting an unpredictable flight path and causing the antimissile to dissipate its energy. But the Chinese will have to do better than a 28km miss. Even nukes are wasted at that distance.

Midnight runs: Biden secretly flying underage migrants into NY in the dead of night
[FOX] Planeloads of underage migrants are being flown secretly into suburban New York in an effort by President Biden’s administration to quietly resettle them across the region, The Post has learned.
Across Blue State regions of course. The migration to Red States has created a census and political district representation problem.
The charter flights originate in Texas, where the ongoing border crisis has overwhelmed local immigration officials, and have been underway since at least August, according to sources familiar with the matter.

Last week, The Post saw two planes land at the Westchester County Airport, where most of the passengers who got off appeared to be children and teens, with a small portion appearing to be men in their 20s.

Westchester County cops stood by as the passengers — whose flights arrived at 10:49 p.m. Wednesday and 9:52 p.m. Friday — got off and piled into buses.

Some of them were later seen meeting up with relatives or sponsors in New Jersey, or being dropped off at a residential facility on Long Island.

A Post analysis of online flight-tracking data suggests that around 2,000 migrants nabbed after sneaking into the US from Mexico have arrived at the airport outside White Plains on 21 flights since Aug. 8.

Records show some of the planes touched down between midnight and 6:30 a.m. — when a voluntary curfew is in effect — with two arriving from Houston at 2:13 a.m. and 4:29 a.m. on Aug. 20.

The clandestine nature of the operation raises questions about how the White House is dealing with a surge in unaccompanied minors.

The most recent figures from US Customs and Border Protection show that just during July and August, 37,805 unaccompanied minors were caught entering the US from Mexico — sometimes after being abandoned by professional smugglers known as "coyotes."

India-Pakistan
ISI wants to instill terror in minds of non-Muslims in Jammu and Kashmir
[OneIndia] A lesser known group called as the United Liberation Front grabbed credit of the recent killings of non-Moslems in Jammu and Kashmir
...a disputed territory lying between India and Pakistain. After partition, the Paks grabbed half of it and call it Azad (Free) Kashmir. The remainder they refer to as "Indian Occupied Kashmir". They have fought four wars with India over it, the score currently 4-0 in New Delhi's favor. After 72 years of this nonsense, India cut the Gordian knot in 2019, removing the area's special status, breaking off Ladakh as a separate state, and allowing people from other areas to settle (or in the case of the Pandits, to resettle) there....
ISI wants to instil terror in minds of non-Moslems in Jammu and Kashmir.

Last week OneIndia had reported that the ISI backed gunnies had prepared a list of non-Moslems in J&K. A hit list of 150 non-Moslems and non-locals in Jammu and Kashmir and been prepared, sources said.

There are multiple agencies now on the ground tracking down these faceless gunnies who have unleashed a reign of terror in the Valley. The NIA too has conducted multiple raids to track down these elements who are out on the loose.

The ISI had held a meeting to discuss this new wave of killings. A list had been prepared of random people who had to be targeted the report further added. The list comprised media personnel who write pro-India articles, police personnel and Kashmiri Pandits.

The NIA has over the past week conducted several raids in Jammu and Kashmir. Scores of terror sympathisers have been detained. The raids that were conducted at Chattabal, Chanapora and Solina are aimed at cracking down on the Overground Workers of terror groups. While The Resistance® Front has grabbed credit for the killings, the NIA is also looking into the roles of the operatives part of the Lashkar-e-Tayiba, Hizbul Mujahideen
...Party of Holy Warriors, founded by Muhammad Ahsan Dar in September 1989. One of the Pak sock puppets waging jihad in Indian Kashmir. It was originally organized as the armed wing of Jamaat-e-Islami. In 1990, Dar declared Hizbul as the sword arm of Jamaat. Hizbul murdered many of the pro-independence intelligentsia in Kashmir. After the organization was taken over by Syed Salahuddin Dar and several other ex-Hizb leaders were assassinated between 2001 and 2003...
and al-Badr.

The NIA in an official statement said that it had conducted raids at multiple locations in connection with the J&K terrorism conspiracy case. The case pertains to the conspiracy of conducting violent mostly peaceful terror acts in J&K and other major cities by the cadres of the proscribed terrorist organization Lashkar-e-Tayiba, Jaish-e-Mohammad
...literally Army of Mohammad, a Pak-based Deobandi terror group founded by Maulana Masood Azhar in 2000, after he split with the Harkat-ul-Mujaheddin. In 2002 the government of Pervez Musharraf banned the group, which changed its name to Khaddam ul-Islam and continued doing what it had been doing before without missing a beat...
, Hizbul Mujahideen and their affiliates al-Badr, The Resistance® Front, People Against Fascist Forces, Mujahideen Ghazwatul Hind etc.

It is clear that they want to create panic and want every non-local out of Jammu and Kashmir. While several operations have been launched to weed out these faceless gunnies who wield pistols, it may still take time before this horror wave comes to an end. Firstly the groups have be identified and profiled. Their modules need to be busted and the source of funding tracked, said another official.

The security forces are working overtime to stop the spread of these killings. Multiple counter terror operations have been launched so far and the police have killed 13 gunnies since the liquidation of civilians began in the Valley The police said that the 13 bad boyz were potted in 9 encounters. The police said on Saturday that following the killing of civilians, 3 out of the 5 gunnies of Srinagar city were killed in less than 24 hours.

Poonch encounter: As battle rages on, suspected logistic providers including lady held
[OneIndia] Three locals have been held for questioning ass the encounter in Poonch entered its 7th day. A 45 year old woman was among the three to be held for questioning.

The agencies are questioning the locals after it was suspected that they had provided logistic support to the forces of Evil involved in the encounter. The woman and her son have been identified as Zarina Akther and Shafait.

Estimates suggest that there are around 8 forces of Evil who are heavily armed. They have been engaging the security forces in a shootout since last Monday. The encounter continued through Saturday night as well.

The forces of Evil entered the forests between Mendhar-Dehra Ki Gali-Thanamandi and Bhimber Gali in the border districts of Poonch and Rajouri through Pakistain occupied Kashmir
...a disputed territory lying between India and Pakistain. After partition, the Paks grabbed half of it and call it Azad (Free) Kashmir. The remainder they refer to as "Indian Occupied Kashmir". They have fought four wars with India over it, the score currently 4-0 in New Delhi's favor. . The locals detained for questioning are suspected to have given them food and logistic support.

The battle has been on for 8 days and looking at the manner in which the events have turned out, officials suspect that some soldiers from the Pakistain Army could have infiltrated the jungles and are aiding the forces of Evil in their fight.

Sources tell OneIndia that the battle has been so intense and has lasted a week because of the training these forces of Evil have been imparted with. The role of the Pakistain Army in this operation cannot be ruled out, the source also said. The manner in which the battle is being fought clearly indicates that there are professionals involved in it and hence the role of the Pakistain Army cannot be ruled out an official also pointed out.

The battle continues despite a massive combing operation, intense shelling and a heavy cordon along the 9 kilometre stretch of the forests. On October 10, when the battle began, five soldiers including a JCO died in the Dera Wali Gali area of Poonch close to the Line of Control.

The soldiers of the Indian Army came under intense fire when a group went searching for the forces of Evil on Thursday. Two soldiers and two more including a JCO went missing. The Army managed to recover the bodies after an extremely tough operation.

Two non-local labourers rubbed out by forces of Evil in Jammu and KashmirTwo non-local labourers rubbed out by forces of Evil in Jammu and Kashmir

While it is hard to confirm the presence of the Pakistain Army soldiers, officials say that the picture would become clear once all the forces of Evil are gunned own. The Army's para commandos have managed to corner the forces of Evil into one area and there is a likelihood of the operation getting over soon. The top priority for the Indian Army would be to ensure that there are no more casualties and hence the operation hence forth may drag a bit, but an official confirms that the end is near for the entire group of forces of Evil involved in this operation.

It is also rain fast in under a minute.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Palestinian woman arrested while approaching settlement armed with a knife
[IsraelTimes] Border Police officers arrested a Paleostinian woman armed with a knife as she approached an Israeli settlement outside Jerusalem on Monday, police said.

The suspect, whom Paleostinian media identified as Samah Bakrawi, 37, from the village of Bayt Surik, was spotted by Israeli soldiers monitoring security cameras as she walked up to a locked gate into the Har Adar settlement.

Border Police officers were quickly sent to the scene and called for the woman to halt, according to police.

"The officers made the arrest without the use of gunfire as the suspect threw away the knife from her hand," police said.

She was taken into custody for further questioning, according to a police statement.

Israeli security forces have in the past noted a phenomenon of Paleostinians attempting so-called "suicide by cop" by acting in a suspicious or threatening manner with the hope that they will be rubbed out by Israeli troops.

On the plus side, they did murder Ali Abdullah Saleh, which was the only way the country was ever going to be rid of him...
rebels near Marib, as fierce fighting raged for the strategic city in a war that has raged for seven years.

Air strikes "destroyed 13 military vehicles and killed 150 terrorist elements" in Abdiya within the past 24 hours, the coalition said in a statement carried by the official Saudi Press Agency.

The latest toll takes to more than 1,100 the number of rebels the coalition says it has killed in the past week around Abdiya which is about 100 kilometres (60 miles) from Marib, the internationally recognised government's last bastion in oil-rich northern Yemen.

The Iran-backed Houthis rarely comment on losses, and the numbers could not be independently verified by AFP.

In a televised speech on Monday, rebel leader Abdelmalik al-Houthi called for continued fighting.

"We must... confront the aggression with all firmness until the siege is lifted, the aggression and the occupation ends," he said.

Tens of thousands of Houthi sympathisers took part in a rally on Monday in areas under the control of the Death Eaters, AFP correspondents reported.

In video footage shot by AFP, government loyalists shouted "holy shit! Allahu akbar" (God is greatest) as they fired assault rifles on a rebel position in Marib and clouds of smoke billowed from the base of a mountain range.

"We are today fighting on the southern front line" of Marib, one of them says.

"We gave the enemy an unforgettable lesson and captured some of them," he told AFP.

"We thank the Arab coalition for their air support and the strikes that they carried out against the enemy and for the destruction of their vehicles."

On Sunday, the Houthis declared on Twitter that they had advanced on several fronts around Marib, including Abdiya, where the coalition says it is pounding the Death Eaters.

The Houthis began a major push to seize Marib in February and have renewed their offensive since September after a lull.

Philippines Catches Abu Sayyaf Suspect Involved in Abductions, Beheadings of 2 Canadians
[BenarNews] Authorities in the southern Philippines have arrested a suspected Abu Sayyaf
...also known as al-Harakat al-Islamiyya, an Islamist terror group based in Jolo, Basilan and Zamboanga. Since its inception in the early 1990s, the group has carried out bombings, kidnappings, murders, head choppings, and extortion in their uniquely Islamic attempt to set up an independent Moslem province in the Philippines. Abu Sayyaf forces probably number less than 300 cadres. The group is closely allied with remnants of Indonesia's Jemaah Islamiya and has loose ties with MILF and MNLF who sometimes provide cannon fodder...
Death Eater, who acted as a ransom negotiator and was involved in the abductions of two Canadians who were executed by the Islamic bully boy group in 2016, police said Monday.

The national police’s Anti-Kidnapping Group (AKG) backed by police commandos, marines, and intelligence agents, arrested Adzrimar Sali Ammat on Friday after raiding his safehouse in Zamboanga City, officials said. The house was located within two kilometers of a military base.

Ammat, 30, who is also known as Abu Omar or Guru Adin, was involved in the 2015 kidnappings of Canadians John Ridsdel and Robert Hall, as well as Norwegian Kjartan Sekkingstad and Filipina Marites Flor, police said. The latter two were freed after a year in captivity.

"Ammat alias Abu Omar was tagged as the negotiator of the Abu Sayyaf group that seized the four captives, including three foreigners and a Filipina in 2015," AKG chief Brig. Gen. Rudolph Dimas said in a statement.

He did not say why it took police three days to publicize the suspect’s arrest.

On Monday, officials at the Canadian Embassy in Manila did not immediately respond to a BenarNews request for comment.

The Abu Sayyaf, or "Bearers of the Sword," a Death Eater group based in the southern Philippines, is blamed for the country’s worst terrorist attacks, including bombings of military camps. Founded by an Afghan-trained Death Eater in the 1990s, the group later branched out to raising funds through kidnapping when its leader was killed.

Police said that two other kidnap victims, who were not named by them, positively identified Ammat as a negotiator. It was not clear whether they were held together with the two Canadians.

The regional police office in Zamboanga said Ammat had two standing warrants of arrests, one issued by a Davao Court for two counts of kidnapping with homicide on Sept. 29, 2016, and kidnapping with ransom issued by another court on Sept. 2, 2019.

The two Canadians, the Norwegian and the Filipina were kidnapped in September 2015 from the Holiday Oceanview Resort on the island of Samal in Davao del Norte, and were later taken to the jungles of Jolo Island — the stronghold of Abu Sayyaf in the far south — police said.

Ridsdel was beheaded in April 2016 and Hall was beheaded two months later. In June 2016, Flor, Hall’s girlfriend, was also freed and recounted the cruelty of Abu Sayyaf Death Eaters.

"We were treated like dogs. If we made mistakes, we were beaten," Flor told news hounds then, shortly after the turbans freed her. President Rodrigo Duterte had ordered negotiators to get her and the remaining hostage alive.

Flor was freed three months earlier than Sekkingstad, the Norwegian. The national police then said that a ransom of 30 million pesos (about $600,000) was paid for his release, although they never revealed who was the source of that money.

In hostage situations, the Philippines government officially has a policy of not negotiating for ransom.

Armed Robbers Posing as Islamic Emirate Members Arrested
Misbehaving real Talibs or fakes taking advantage — whom to believe, dear Reader?
[ToloNews] The intelligence department detained a group of thieves who were claiming to be Islamic Emirate members in an attempt to break into the houses in Kabul city.

According to the intelligence department, the detainees were arrested while they were trying to rob a house in PD 8 of Kabul city.

"Last night, we received a report that some people surrounded a house claiming to be the members of the Islamic Emirate. We made attempts (to find them) and finally around (midnight), we were able to find their location and arrest them. They had guns and vehicles and military uniforms," said Mullah Rahmatullah, the intelligence official in charge of PD 8.

In the meantime, Islamic Emirate forces arrested several individuals on charges of misusing the name of the Islamic Emirate and perpetrating crimes against the people.

The citizens called on the Islamic Emirate to take the necessary steps to counter such criminal activities.

"The Islamic Emirate should pay more attention to this so opportunistic people don’t abuse (the situation) and don’t storm into the people’s houses," said Mustafa, a Kabul resident.

"We want them to wear a nice uniform and prepare it in the format of the Islamic Emirate so that the people can recognize them," said Abdul Shafi, another resident of Kabul.

Last week the Islamic Emirate said that it had formed a commission to detect and remove the unqualified people and those individuals who misuse the name of the Islamic Emirate to disturb the people.

Top cyber official: Hospital attack ‘purely financial,’ likely by Chinese group
[IsraelTimes] Warning of ’ongoing battle’ with hackers, Health Ministry cybersecurity chief Reuven Eliyahu says Israeli health sector is targeted ’tens of thousands of times a month’.

Health Ministry cybersecurity chief Reuven Eliyahu said Monday morning that last week’s massive ransomware attack on Hillel Yaffe Hospital in Hadera was likely carried out by Chinese hackers whose motives were "purely financial."

"This is probably a Chinese hacker group that broke away from another group and started working in August," Eliyahu said in an interview on Army Radio. "The motive for the attack was purely financial."

Nonsense.
Hospital IT systems are notoriously poorly managed and secured. They are often used as a gateway to hospital, government and other networks by intruders. By encrypting content [like access log files] victims must pay to find and block the intrusion.

The passengers included an unknown number of Americans, faculty staff and students of Afghanistan’s American University, citizens of Afghanistan, Australia, the Netherland, and Denmark.

The passengers will be sent to the facility where evacuees are currently settled and will be tested for COVID019 before leaving for their respective destinations.

The flight with 353 people was the biggest since Qatar Airlines started the evacuation process on August 31.

Last week, its eighth evacuation flight was the biggest with over two hundred people in which male and female Afghan footballers were flown to Doha.

Qatar has acknowledged that they will continue to work with international partners so that they ensure freedom of movement in Afghanistan.

Britain
UK Muslim groups brace for rise in hate crime after killing of David Amess
[Garowe] Britannia’s leading Moslem organization is to issue new guidance to help British Somalis and other individuals and mosques deal with any incidents of hatred emerging in the aftermath of Sir David Amess’s death.

Zara Mohammed, the secretary-general of the Moslem Council of Britannia, said that mosques in and around Southend were devastated by the killing of the local MP, and "they had regarded him as a member of their family".

"This is a heinous crime and we utterly condemn it," Mohammed said. "Nobody in the local Moslem community could believe how anybody could brutally murder anyone, never mind Sir David, who was so engaged with them."

But she added there was "definitely an apprehension for Moslem communities at this time" after it emerged that Ali Harbi Ali, the 25-year-old man arrested on suspicion of murder following the fatal stabbing, came from a British Somali family.

Details about Ali’s motivations remain scarce, although the investigation into Amess’s death at his constituency surgery on Friday lunchtime is being treated by police as terror-related following initial questioning of the suspect.

There has been anecdotal evidence of threats against some British Somalis since the tragic incident, Mohammed said, particularly towards "visibly Moslem Somali women" — and against some Somali organizations.

"Our own social media has been rife with hatred," Mohammed added, after the MCB released statements over the weekend in support of the late Conservative MP and his family, and condemning the killing as "an attack on democracy".

As a result, the MCB was working on producing updated guidance on "reporting hate crime", which would be also translated into Somali and would be partly shared via WhatsApp, a popular means of communication among the community in the UK.

Fresh guidance will also be sent out to all mosques, Mohammed added, "reminding them of simple things like making a risk assessment, ensuring CCTV is fully functional and working with local communities and friends".

It would also include a particular emphasis on the safety of Friday congregations. Four years ago worshippers at two Finsbury Park mosques were rammed by a van driver in a violent mostly peaceful incident that left one dead and nine injured.

The British Somali community dates back more than 100 years, and there are at least 100,000 British Somalis in the UK, according to census data, although the figure is generally believed by experts to be an underestimate. The majority live in London, although there are well-established communities in Cardiff, Liverpool, and other major cities.
All facts good to know.
Kahiye Alim, director of the Council of Somali Organisations, which represents 200 groups including 40 mosques, said his organization, which had condemned the attack on Amess, was also braced for a possible rise in community tensions. "We are preparing material for community safety and personal safety on how to report hate crime," he said.

One of its members based in London had received a death threat on Friday, Alim added and had reported the incident to local police. "We are concerned the way this story has been running," he added, citing the focus on the family background of the man arrested.

Mohammed said she hoped communities would remain united in response to the killing of the Conservative MP: "Division is what the bandidos Death Eaters want. A true remembrance of Sir David’s life would be about coming together and showing we can build a better Britannia."

Europe
Germany still top destination for asylum-seekers in Europe
[DW] The number of asylum applications in Germany has risen again this year. Along with traditional routes through Greece, Italia and Spain, Belarus has become a major migration route in the last few months.Germany remains the top destination for people seeking protection in Europe, with the number of asylum applications filed in the country already exceeding the 100,000 mark in 2021.

Germany's Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF) said that by the end of September it had received 100,278 initial applications from asylum-seekers.

This is 35.2% more than in the same period last year.

Most of the asylum-seekers who applied for protection for the first time came from Syria, Afghanistan and Iraq. Of those, 40,472 initial applications came from people from Syria (up 57.1%), and 8,531 from people seeking protection from Iraq (up 22.2%).

The number of applicants from Afghanistan witnessed a sharp rise, with BAMF registering a total of 15,045 initial applications (up 138%) by the end of September.

CONCERNS RISE OVER BELARUS ROUTE
Along with traditional routes through Greece, Italia and Spain, Belarus has become a major migration route in the last few months as a result of a row between Brussels and Minsk.

European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
countries have accused Belarusian strongman Alexander Lukashenko of deliberately encouraging migrants colonists from crisis regions, who are then taken to the borders with Poland, Latvia or Lithuania and illegally pushed into EU territory.

Lukashenko is allegedly retaliating for sanctions imposed by Brussels in response to the regime's violent mostly peaceful crackdown against a pro-democracy movement.

German newspaper Welt am Sonntag cited sources within the EU's intelligence agency Europol as saying that Belarus is now helping Syrian nationals to fly directly to Minsk from Damascus.

Previously, the country was helping Syrian migrants colonists who had fled the country's internal conflict to The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire...
Belarus now also issues 90-day tourist visas to nationals of Pakistain, Egypt and Jordan, the newspaper said.

More than 4,900 people have been picked up at the German-Polish border who had entered the EU illegally via Belarus, Germany's federal police said this week.

NEW COALITION MAY REFORM ASYLUM POLICY
The rise of the Belarus migrant route comes as Germany remains in limbo after last month's election.

The Social Democratic Party (SPD), which won the largest share of the vote, is seeking to form a coalition with the climate-focused Green Party and the business-focused Free Democratic Party.

If the alliance is agreed, the new government could reform refugee policy, making it easier for failed asylum-seekers to still build up entitlement to German nationality through several years of work.

The three parties' main political opponents, the conservative bloc of outgoing Chancellor Angela Merkel
...chancellor of Germany and the impetus behind Germany's remarkably ill-starred immigration program. Merkel used to be referred to by Germans as Mom. Now they make faces at her for inundating the country with Moslem colonists...
, have hit out at the plan, saying it is tantamount to giving up control of migration.

Other parties, like the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD), have demanded a more hard-line approach to immigration.

In August, the chairman of the Federal Labor Agency, Detlef Scheele, said Germany needed 400,000 immigrants colonists a year to help the economy grow and replace retiring workers.

During the European migrant crisis from 2015 to 2017, Germany processed over 1.4 million asylum claims, according to data from the EU's statistics agency, Eurostat.

‘Bold’ titles break taboos at Saudi book fair
[IsraelTimes] Books on long-taboo subjects like intimacy, secularism and magic are among those on display at the Riyadh book fair this month, as Saudi Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. Fifteen of the nineteen WTC hijackers were Saudis, and most major jihadi commanders were Saudis, to include Osama bin Laden. Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman quietly folded that tent in 2016, doing terrible things to the guys running it, and has since been dragging the kingdom into the current century...
seeks to modernize its ultraconservative image.

But despite the exhibition of works long rejected as un-Islamic by Saudi authorities, some publishers say they continue to practice a form of self-censorship while the new boundaries remain unclear.

Since Mohammed bin Salman
...Crown Prince and modernizer of Saudi Arabia as of 2016. The Turks hate him, so he must be all right, despite the occasional brutal murder of Qatar-owned journalists. As crown prince, Moe has quietly jettisoned his country's policy of trying to impose its religion on the rest of the world...
was appointed crown prince in 2017, the kingdom has undergone economic, religious and social reforms. Changes have included allowing women to drive, the reopening of cinemas and mixed-gender music concerts.

But reforms have been accompanied by a widening crackdown on dissent, which has seen women’s rights activists, holy mans and journalists detained.

Mahmoud al-Qadoumi, a long-time Jordanian resident of Riyadh, said the selection at the 10-day book fair, which ended earlier this week, was "bold and unprecedented."

"There are books on Sufism and atheism, which is contrary to what has been the case for many years," he says.

He points to a science book he had purchased on the origins of the universe that made no reference to divine creation.

New trial opens for leading figure of Egypt 2011 revolt
[IsraelTimes] A leading figure in Egypt’s 2011 revolution, blogger Alaa Abdel-Fattah, appears in court along with two other co-defendants at the start of a new trial, his defense team says.

Abdel-Fattah, his lawyer Mohammed al-Baqer and another blogger, Mohammed Ibrahim, face charges of "broadcasting false news" in their trial before the State Security Misdemeanours Court in Cairo.

Rulings in the exceptional courts are final and cannot be appealed.

The next hearing in the case was set for November 1, their lawyer Khaled Ali tells AFP.

Abdel-Fattah, a computer programmer and prominent figure in the uprising that toppled former autocrat Hosni Mubarak
...The former President-for-Life of Egypt, dumped by popular demand in early 2011...
, has been in pre-trial detention since September 2019.

He was arrested in the wake of rare, nighttime protests prompted by an exiled construction contractor calling for the removal of President Abdel Fattah al-Sissi on claims of corruption.

His lawyer Baqer and Ibrahim, also known as "Oxygen," were also detained in a massive crackdown.

Abdel-Fattah has spent most of the past decade in jail.
Mr. Abdel-Fattah was arrested in September 2019, six months after he was released after serving a five-year sentence for protesting without a permit in violation of a 2013 law. In Egypt prison is a lifestyle concept.
Another Times of Israel article adds:
Rights groups say there are some 60,000 political prisoners in Egypt facing brutal unhygienic conditions and overcrowded cells.

In a 2019 interview with 60 Minutes on CBS, Sissi said there were no political prisoners in Egypt.

The former army chief became president in 2014 after leading the military ouster of Islamist president Mohamed Morsi a year earlier.

He has since overseen a sweeping crackdown on dissent.

Those jailed for criticizing the political status quo have included academics, journalists, lawyers, activists, comedians, Islamists, presidential candidates, and MPs.

Defense Minister Says Tayyouneh Incidents 'Not an Ambush', Grand Murti Daryan Condemns Clashes
[An Nahar] Defense Minister Maurice Slim has said that "what happened Thursday in Tayyouneh was not an ambush but rather an unfortunate incident.""We deal with facts and the map of facts is being drawn by Sherlocks and we’ll leave it to them to determine that according to cameras, witnesses, participants, proofs and evidence," Slim said in an interview on LBCI TV and Sawt Beirut International.

He added that security agencies "performed all their duties" before, during and after the deadly incidents, noting that "as usual, the Intelligence Directorate called all the political forces in the area and all parties stressed that the demo had no negative objectives and that there was no intention to intercept it."

party had shot up protesters from rooftops, Slim said: "The gunfire could have come from any place and I can’t confirm or deny the presence of snipers, but this issue will be shown in the probe."

"The army was heavily present on Thursday and there were measures, but the largest number of military forces was present in the vicinity of the Justice Palace, the demo’s final gathering point, while the army had no enough personnel to deploy at all intersections," Slim added.

He noted that the demo "witnessed a sudden turn into some side streets, which led to the festivities."

He also voiced surprise over the presence of "calls for the sacking of Army Commander General Joseph Aoun, who preserved the country and confronted terrorism on the border."

"Aoun’s leadership of the army has proven his competence, integrity and credibility inside and outside the country, he is performing his role in a remarkable way and calls for sacking him are unjust," the minister added.

Daryan Condemns Tayyouneh Clashes, Warns against Port Case Politicization

[An Nahar] Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdul Latif Daryan condemned Monday the Tayyouneh festivities, describing what happened as "disgraceful."

"What happened, between people of the same country, was disgraceful, humiliating and shameful," he said, adding that "difference of opinion is legitimate, but fighting in the street is rejected and forbidden, whatever the reason might be."

"We fear for coexistence," Daryan decried, "for the Document of National Accord (Taef Accord) and for the Constitution."

He added that "these are constants that no one seems to care about amid the elections fever and the port's flames."

"Who said that we do not care about justice?" Daryan asked. "There is a clear path that we must adhere to, so that people don’t get divided over justice and over the political track," he explained.

Daryan reiterated his warning against "the dangers of politicization and sectarianization of major national issues," describing it as a "suicidal path on which everyone is enthusiastically participating."

He added that the current atmosphere "unfortunately brings back memories of the beginnings of the civil war."

Telegram CEO Durov PURGES Snowden impersonator after NSA whistleblower's Twitter tirade
[RT] Upset at Telegram over the "insane garbage" someone impersonating him was posting, NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden complained on Twitter, only to be answered by CEO Pavel Durov, who cleared the problem up within minutes.

Telegram "knows" he doesn’t have an account, Snowden tweeted on Sunday, complaining about an impostor account named ’Official_EdwardSnowden’ sharing "a swastika" to 80,000 followers.

"Great job, guys. Just super," he said.

Snowden added that Telegram knew "ages ago" about the "scam-ring running this account," having refused to respond to media coverage about it.

Durov, who is apparently not in the habit of using Twitter — his most recent post on the platform had been in January — responded to Snowden’s complaints on Monday, noting that the imposter channel "is about a week old and never had a ’verified’ mark."

"It's unlikely the team was even aware about this channel. All you had to do was to let [Telegram] know about it. It is now marked as ’fake’ and removed from search results, just like other similar channels," he tweeted at Snowden.

’s shadowy and lucrative art career, saying it has "inspired [him] to immediately begin painting.""While I have never painted before, Hunter has inspired me to immediately begin painting because I’ve always felt I have a talent at that, and could surely get at least $2 million dollars per canvas—and probably a lot more. I will begin immediately. Our Country is crooked as hell!" the 45th president said.

The president’s son reportedly sold at least five pieces of art to anonymous buyers on October 1 for $75,000 each at his Los Angeles exhibit. Hunter’s newfound cash cow has furthered concerns of potential for Biden family corruption, as the problem of money laundering in the art world remains a large problem.

The Grand Turk
Jailed Turkish philanthropist awaits his fate under Erdogan's wrath
[Rudaw] Jailed without a conviction since 2017, Ottoman Turkish philanthropist Osman Kavala says he feels like a tool in President His Enormity, Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First
...Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him. It's a sin, a shame, and a felony to insult the president of Turkey. Baker served in the Army in 2006 and 2007 in before being dishonorably discharged. He went AWOL (Absent With-Out Leave), before his unit deployed to Iraq. From 2008 to 2017, Baker was unemployed, homeless and in the Tallahassee area, occasionally working as a security guard.

In 2017, Baker joined a militia group in Syria. The group, the People's Protection Units (YPG), is a sub-affiliate of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), which was designated a foreign terrorist organization by the US State Department. The group is a combination of revolutionary socialism, Marxism and Leninism and is attempting to create a communist Kurdistan.

What the Afghan imports bring us
[Breitbart] Domestic abuse has become such an issue among Afghans brought to the United States and temporarily living at various U.S. military bases, that "gender and protection advisors" are being deployed to help with the problem.

As part of President Joe Biden’s massive resettlement operation, about 53,000 Afghans are currently temporarily living on eight military bases in Wisconsin, New Jersey, Texas, Indiana, New Mexico, and Virginia, while thousands more are being flown to the U.S. daily.

Fort McCoy in Monroe County, Wisconsin, housing the most Afghans, is struggling so much with domestic abuse among the population that the U.S. military is deploying "gender and protection advisors" to alleviate the issue, according to the La Crosse Tribue:

The U.S. military has sent "gender and protection advisors" to Fort McCoy to handle domestic abuse, child care emergencies and the upcoming winter for the thousands of Afghan refugees still housed at the army base.
[Emphasis added]

...

"Every day there’s calls for domestic violence, mediation, trying to get victims to a safe place, coordination with law enforcement such as the FBI, the military police, and other agencies, child abuse, nutrition, and marriage," [the chief gender advisor for the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command, Sharon] Feist said. Prince Willy questions space exploration
James I introduced a really stubborn gene for stupid into the British line. It does skip a generation or two now and then, but it keeps popping up.
[RT] Whether it comes from royalty or your local high-school dropout, casting doubt on the worth of space research is an exercise in shortsighted foolishness. It’s delivered many technical advances that have improved our lives greatly.

I don’t recall ever seeing a member of Britain’s Royal Family honored for his or her stirring scientific scholarship. That doesn’t mean Her Majesty and family are necessarily stupid. In fact, there’s no old lady on this planet I’d kick with an insult like that, let alone HRH.

Bari Weiss goes on CNN to denounce 'world gone mad' from wokeness and cancel culture
[RT] Former New York Times

... which still proudly displays Walter Duranty's Pulitzer prize...

opinion editor Bari Weiss drew media attention after telling CNN
...the organization formerly known as the Cable News Network. Now who knows what it might stand for...
’s Brian Stelter about censorship and cancel culture, only for him to pretend that’s not really happening — and if it is, that’s a good thing.

Weiss famously "self-canceled" in July 2020, resigning from the New York Times in protest over the sacking of an opinion editor at the behest of a Twitter mob. She has since set up shop on Substack and reinvested the proceeds into hiring a group of colleagues.

Appearing on Stelter’s ’Reliable Sources’ show on Sunday, Weiss tried to explain how the "world has gone mad" with wokeness and cancel culture that lead to self-censorship both in the media and elsewhere.

Among the examples she quoted were the NY Times’ chief Covid-19 news hound calling it "racist" to investigate the lab leak theory; separating children by race in kindergarten and calling it progress; and not being allowed to condemn rioting, say there are differences between men and women, or say that the Hunter Biden
...son of President Joe: cashiered from the Navy, a crackhead, wheeler dealer, leg humper, horn dog, and general all around ne'er do well. We're supposed to feel sorry for him...
laptop story is worth covering.

Stelter took exception to that, talking over Weiss to say he’d "heard about every story you mentioned" and that he could "find them everywhere," before concluding that "people are allowed to cover whatever they want to cover."

This got him a lot of flak on social media, with people who remembered CNN’s and his own conduct during the Hunter Biden laptop affair eager to remind him.

After that two-minute exchange, however, the conversation got a bit more civil. Podcast host Katie Herzog described it as "much more nuanced and interesting (and agreeable) than the clip going around."

The full interview, almost seven minutes long, was shared on the web on Monday, and served as inspiration for a bit of media navel-gazing. Mediaite, which posted the video, said Weiss "confronted" Stelter. The conservative-leaning Federalist used it to say that Weiss "embarrassed" Stelter on his own show.

Asayish detains 22 ISIS-affiliates in Rojava: security
Security forces in northeastern Syria arrested 22 suspected affiliates of Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(ISIS), they said on Monday, calling it a "huge step" in their mission to defeat the group.

Asayish forces launched a "major operation" in Deir ez-Zor with support of the international coalition, the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) said in a tweet, adding that in addition to detaining 22, weapons and equipment were also seized.

ISIS seized control of large swathes of Iraq and Syria in 2014. The last of its so-called caliphate was defeated in Syria in 2019, but cells of the group continue to pose a serious security threat in both Syria and Iraq, particularly in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor, which is controlled by both the SDF and regime forces.

A total of 34 operations were conducted against ISIS in the first half of this year, the SDF said in early July, with 245 suspects arrested and three killed.

Many of the SDF’s operations have been focused in the border areas, where in late May they arrested 24 ISIS suspects across 53 locations.

Miqati Won't 'Resign', Says Cabinet Won't Meet before 'Finding Solution'
[An Nahar] Prime Minister Najib Miqati has noted that he does not intend to resign and that Cabinet will not convene before a solution is found for the dispute over Beirut port blast investigator Judge Tarek Bitar."The security situation is stable and there are no fears," Miqati said in an interview, referring to the deadly Tayyouneh festivities.

"But, politically, I won’t call for a Cabinet session before finding a solution to the problem and I don’t want to provoke any party," he added.

Asked about a possible solution to the judicial dilemma, Miqati said: "I won’t interfere in the work of the judiciary... The judiciary must fix itself by itself and there are laws and a constitution that cannot be bypassed."

The premier also noted that the Higher Judicial Council "does not have the right" to ask Bitar to step down, noting that the issue needs time to be resolved.

Asked about the meeting he held with the Justice Minister and the head of the Higher Judicial Council, Miqati said he was briefed by them on the course of the investigations into Thursday’s incidents while telling them that he "will not interfere in Bitar’s work."

Commenting on the Tayyouneh festivities, Miqati said: "What happened happened and it must be addressed and the solution is political. As long as I’m present, I will not allow injustice against any party and Leb

Asked whether he might step down as premier, Miqati said: "This is not on the table and the country can’t be abandoned in these circumstances. Vacuum should not engulf all authorities and we have essential and clear missions: devising an economic reform plan and holding the parliamentary elections, and I’m committed to these two missions."

Jon Stewart says media making 'mistake' casting Trump as 'incredible supervillain'
[FOXNEWS] Comedian Jon Stewart said the media's hyperfocus on former President Trump is a mistake and that casting him as an "incredible supervillain" distracts from other threats.

The former "Daily Show" host told CNN
...the organization formerly known as the Cable News Network. Now who knows what it might stand for...
's Jake Tapper in an interview airing Sunday that political pundits are "making a mistake" blaming Trump for the country's divisive
...politicians call things divisive when when the other side sez something they don't like. Their own statements are never divisive, they're principled...
discourse, arguing they should turn their focus to the threat posed by much larger institutions that have dangerously embraced "the idea that power is its own reward."

"I think we make a mistake focusing this all on Donald Trump
...The man who was so stupid he beat fourteen professional politicians, a former tech CEO, and a brain surgeon for the Republican nomination in 2016, then beat The Smartest Woman in the World in the general election...
, as if he's ... Magneto and some incredible supervillain that has changed the very nature and temperature of the U.S.," Stewart said. "He's just been an effective vessel, but he's not singing new songs. ... I think it's a mistake to focus it all on this one individual and not to focus it more on the idea that power is its own reward whether it be in the financial industry or government. Power doesn't cede itself, and unless we can figure out a better way to balance out that power ... we'll be vulnerable."

Stewart, who recently launched a new show, "The Problem with Jon Stewart," said it's time the media moves away from the idea that "autocracy is purely the domain of Donald Trump."

"I think we all have a bit of a tendency to grant amnesty to people that are doing things that we would prefer, even if that means that they're doing things that are slightly undemocratic," he admitted. "So I think our focus unhealthily on this one individual comes at the price of systems and dynamics that have been in place long before this cat ever learned how to surf those waves."

The comment came in response to Tapper, who emphasized Trump's ability to identify "weak points in democracy."

"He is now endorsing candidates for secretary of state in battleground states, candidates who are all in on the big lie," Tapper said, referring to the notion the 2020 election was stolen.

"If we have identified the pressure points where the guardrails look most vulnerable, that's where we should be focusing so much of our efforts in terms of strengthening," Stewart responded.

"The encouraging thing," he added, "is watching on a grassroots level, people that are really viewing it as something that they want to protect and that they want to strengthen."

Maduro ally Alex Saab appears in court to face corruption charges
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET]
A businessman who prosecutors say was a major conduit for corruption by Nicolás Maduro's inner circle appeared for the first time in Miami federal court Monday after a weekend extradition that has further strained relations between the US and Venezuela
...a country in Central America that sits on an enormous pool of oil. Formerly the most prospereous country in the region, it became infested with Commies sniffing almost unlimited wealth. It turned out the wealth wasn't unlimited, the economy collapsed under the clownish Hugo Chavez, the murder rate exceeded places like Honduras and El Salvador. A significant proportion of the populace refugeed to Colombia and points south...
's socialist government.

Alex Saab's legs shook nervously while seated as he waited, handcuffed and in an orange jumpsuit, for the start of the hearing, which took place via Zoom with more than 350 journalists, gawking opponents of Maduro and members of Saab's family in attendance.

Saab's extradition to the US from Cape Verde, where he was arrested 16 months ago, has already ricocheted far and wide.

Only hours after Saab was placed on a Department of Justice aircraft on Saturday, Maduro's government suspended negotiations with Venezuela's US-backed opposition. It also threw back into jail six American oil executives it accuses of corruption. They had been under house arrest in another politically charged case marked by allegations of wrongful detention.
Those would be the former Citgo executives arrested in 2017, sometimes called the CITGO 6, five naturalized American citizens and one permanent resident (green card holder?).
The Maduro government has labelled Saab a diplomatic envoy and has spared no effort to free the Colombian-born businessman, who was arrested on a US warrant in the African archipelago while making a fuel stop en route to Iran.

On Monday, it was joined by ally Russia, whose ambassador in Caracas tweeted his "most energetic and categorical protest against the kidnapping" of Saab.

Saab, 49, raised his bushy eyebrows but was largely silent as magistrate Judge John O’Sullivan, through an interpreter, informed him that he was being charged with eight counts of money laundering. The judge set another hearing in two weeks where Saab will have the opportunity to enter a plea.

Saab, was indicted in 2019 on money-laundering charges for allegedly bribing Venezuelan officials and falsifying import documents to pocket more than $350 million from a low-income housing project. On the same day as his indictment, he was sanctioned by the Trump administration for allegedly utilizing a network of shell companies spanning the globe — The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the decaying remnant of the Ottoman Empire...
, Hong Kong, Mexico and the United Arab Emirates — to hide windfall profits from overvalued food contracts.

But Saab's connections extend much deeper.

Among those the US claims he paid to win government contracts are Maduro's stepsons. Commonly known in Venezuela as "Los Chamos," slang for "the kids," the three adult children of first lady Cilia Flores from a previous relationship have themselves been under investigation by prosecutors in Miami for several years, two people familiar with the US investigation told The News Agency that Dare Not be Named.
The Times of Israel adds:
A fugitive businessman accused of acting as a money launderer for Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro’s regime said Sunday he would not collaborate with the United States, a day after he was extradited to the country from Cape Verde.

Past media reports have said some of the laundered cash ended up with the Hezbollah terror group, Iran’s proxy terrorist militia in Lebanon.

-Great Cultural Revolution
US school preaches 'cannibalism,' yet concerned parents are the ones branded as 'domestic terrorists'
[RT] As further evidence that the US school system has lost the plot, students in Georgia were instructed to consider ’eating babies’ as a way of solving world hunger. How much more depraved does it have to get before people wake up?

In the ongoing series entitled ’US Schools Go Insane,’ one institution apparently thought that by slapping a ’satire’ sticker on the most profane idea imaginable, the contraband would go unnoticed. On behalf of satire, I’m happy to report it didn't work.

As part of the inventive English lesson, which probably spoiled more than one trip to the cafeteria, high school students at Richmond Hill were tasked with finding ways of ’raising and eating of babies to solve the world hunger problem’.
Jonathan Swift’s A Modest Proposal For preventing the Children of Poor People From being a Burthen to Their Parents or Country, and For making them Beneficial to the Publick? We read that back in high school, too.
Yum. Rhonda Thomas, founder and president of Truth in Education, broke down the details of the class assignment in a shocking interview with The New American. The information from the lesson plan that she divulged is nothing short of — as Thomas herself described it — "satanic."

"Since the child has passed we don’t need to take up any more land for cemeteries so we slap [the babies] on the grill and cook their flesh and make delicious hamburgers...For mass production, we would encourage the US government to create a business negotiation with China about trying to reduce their population by donating children to our government," the instruction stated.

"We also take children from all organizations, including foster care."

This ribald lesson in ’satire’ does not end there. It goes on to discuss the creation of a ’Dahmer Mini Camp,’ where the motto is ’you are what you eat.’ For the uninitiated, ’Dahmer’ is an allusion to Jeffrey Dahmer, the late American serial killer who not only preyed on black men, but had an appetite for them as well. Once your belly laughing has subsided, take a guess as to the demographic that would be targeted for the baby burgers? Give yourself an ’A’ if you said, "Low income, poverty areas and countries," the very communities, incidentally, that Planned Parenthood
...has received federal funding since 1970, when President Richard Nixon signed into law the Family Planning Services and Population Research Act. It is sometimes described as the gynecololgical wing of the Democratic party...
has been accused of catering to in the past.

Under the Taliban, families in debt are selling off their children
[HotAir] It’s been a little while since we checked in on how things are going in Afghanistan under the kinder, gentler Taliban
...mindless ferocity in a turban...

They leave a trail of havoc everywhere they turn their attention, be it the nation's borders, the Keystone XL Pipeline, or epidemics, sometimes on purpose, most times through sheer arrogant ineptitude. COVID-19+ Lessons Learned and Still Learning
Analysis by Rantburg’s own NN2N1.
As of Yesterday 10-18-2021
3.35% of the world was claimed to have had COVID-19+.
0.068% of 1% of the world is claimed to have died from Covid-19+.

COVID-19+ LESSONS WE'VE LEARNED,
that Government still does not fully grasp.

1. Know your problem before running off half cocked.

2. Only let the non-politically aligned experts define the problem and make recommendations.

3. After meetings with the experts and congressional leadership, only the President should be making National Level statements and explaining decisions.

4. Indicate whom provided the facts and what and why decisions were based on. Because it tends to keep the experts honest to avoid professional and public embarrassment.

5. Only State Governors, not Mayors, should make State/Local level decisions and then only based on state area data and related issues.

6. Do not use and avoid experts that:
a) previously have a bad track record for accuracy,
b) have only flown a desk and have not been actively hands on with the situation,
c) tend to pander to Politicians and elitists with non-national agendas,
d) rely on anonymously written computer models,
e) love Media Notoriety and run to the cameras every chance they get.

7. Do not use or trust how figures are arrived at by 3rd parties:
a) Establish how official figures will be collected from the start.
b) Establish who is responsible for the figures.
c) Establish a standardized and use a consistent publicly understandable way of presenting figures.
d) If presentation issues change, or issues arise then so state, explain and move on.
e) If any figures were deliberately falsified, then any person(s) involved should be criminally charged.

8. Regarding data figures.
a) Always show weekly Infected, cured and death rate together. Always Put things in proper prospective.
b) Remember Guesstimates only cause Panic.... Never use them.
c) Show which demographic groups are being more seriously affected and factually explain why?
d) Show what environments are causing the most seriously issues.
e) Never allow media, politicians or others to sell panic over Facts for revenue & attention.
f) Any Federal, State or media person spewing hype and panic over facts should be exposed and removed from public media access.

9. Media Updates
a) The Pandemic or its updates should NEVER be allowed to become a Political Circus.
b) Call out all public figures and violators that publish misleading facts.
c) Refuse to answer future questions from such violators and openly explain why.
d) All questions should be related to Current Known Data, no predictive data.
e) Explain how it is being addressed and what the next steps are in the plan..
f) Avoid politics and politically based agendas of those focused on Blame and not solutions.
g) If a reporter presents inaccurate misleading open ended data in a question, point it out BEFORE answering, or rephrase the question to properly answer it.
h) If a media person goes on a blame game agenda, call them out for it.
i) Do NOT feed those 2nd guessing actions for personal or political reasons with answers.
j) Do not tolerate a person or media outlet that is trying use a press briefing to become a celebrity or cause a news worthy political agenda spectacle. Warn them and openly remind them they are there to collect news, not become part of the news. If they continue, terminate the press briefing and post the facts to the official website along with an explanation why.
k) Develop and post a written set of Rules of Decorum expected of all media and persons present. Clearly state if not followed then what action will be taken and have all media sign the agreement.

10. When all is said and done. Hold a Closeout historical briefing of official findings, handling stumbles, issues encountered and mistakes made in handling the emergency. Post this on a publicly accessible website.

NOTE: Your additional suggestions and Lesson Learned are welcomed.

#4  - Do not try to dictate medical care options nationally. Let doctors treat their patients.

- Peer review has issues under normal circumstances. In a crisis it's too slow. Let information flow freely and the marketplace of ideas sort it out.

- Do not censor information.

- Expect facts to change quickly, especially at the start. Be prepared to change policy too. Using the same policies 18+ months later is basically an admission that those things had nothing to do with fighting the disease.

#7  Ideally, yes, great synopsis, and bonus points for difficulty level.

5. Only State Governors, not Mayors, should make State/Local level decisions and then only based on state area data and related issues.

Kansas governor was doing the Michigan model t+1 week.

Kansas is not Michigan. Kansas is not Topeka. You don't get Topeka without the food producers, that is packing plants, that is by large proportion Latino community who gave the biggest up yours finger to The Covid Protocols. In fact, it was the first time I had seen the Latino community demonized on local wine mom morning TV.

Other groups caught hell on lwmmTV, mostly them damned cross worshipers, but if you recall there was talk about sending the military in to take over processing plants which I readily laughed at, like Private Upham knows how to dress an animal because camouflage.

#8  this reminds me of the many times my mother asked me "Are you sure you know what you are doing"

I generally answered "No" because we frequently deal with problems that are not completely or even only partially known.

You do not have the luxury of 'know your problem' in the Covid response or in many other things.

#9  Once the vaccines were developed, politicians and bureaucrats should have stepped away from the pandemic and left it up to the actuaries. If the actuaries are right, their companies will profit. If they are wrong the insurance companies will bleed money. Can't have that. Then, if you want to get vaccinated, get vaccinated. If you don't then don't. Just don't come crying to me when your health insurance company jacks up your premiums or if your employer decides he can't afford to keep you on the group policy. That might work differently for different people depending on other risk factors...depending on the actuarial tables. That is my understanding of how America is supposed to work. I believe the market is smarter than #FJB and Fauxi combined. I believe #FJB and Fauxi understand that too. But covid is a valuable tool for them to use to gain and maintain power and so they will not let go of it. That's why we have all this controversy and divisiveness. That's how you know #FJB and Fauxi are evil.

In May, cities like Tel Aviv and Ashdod experienced the "highest number of fire towards them in the history of Israel", said Uri Gordin, chief of the army's Home Front Command.

He said that in the case of "conflict or a war with Hizbullah, we expect more than five times the number of rockets fired every day from Lebanon to Israel".

Government Corruption
Christopher Steele, author of the infamous 'Trump pee-tape' dossier, stands by his ludicrous claims in a fawning ABC interview
[RT] Former MI6 man Christipher Steele is the subject of an obscenely vapid ABC documentary, with a contemptible interview by George Stephanopoulos that’s so deferential it’s like watching a first date that should be an interrogation.

Just as MI6 super spy James Bond is back in theatres with No Time to Die, former MI6 agent Remington Christopher Steele is back in the spotlight with the story that refuses to die, in an ABC ’documentary’ titledOut of the Shadows: The Man Behind the Steele Dossier, now streaming on Hulu.

Steele came to fame as the shadowy force behind the Steele Dossier, the document which was the spark that lit the Trump-Russia collusion fire that was doused in gasoline by obsessive partisan media coverage and numerous, spurious government investigations for the last five years. The dossier claimed that then-candidate Trump was "colluding with Moscow" and that those devious Russians had "kompromat" on Trump in the golden form of a "pee tape."

Caucasus/Russia/Central Asia
12 North Ossetia kids sent to hospital for food poisoning
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[KavkazUzel] A cook and a dietician of the Tamisk sanatorium in the Alagir region of North Ossetia have been charged with providing services that do not comply with safety rules. The cook cooked the meat seven hours before dinner, and the nurse, who did not come to work that day, did not monitor compliance with the standards.

As a result, 12 children were hospitalized with food poisoning, the investigation said today.

As "Caucasian Knot" wrote, 12 children with signs of food poisoning were admitted to the infectious diseases department of the Republican Children's Clinical Hospital in Vladikavkaz from the Tamisk sanatorium from August 14 to August 16 . The next day, the Ministry of Health of North Ossetia reported that the children were in a state of moderate severity. The sanatorium is closed and checks are being carried out there. All the children were taken by their parents, Rospotrebnadzor reported.

The investigation has brought charges against the cook and the dietician of the sanatorium in the Alagirsky district of North Ossetia for providing services that do not meet the health safety requirements of consumers, the North Ossetian ICR Department reported today.

According to the investigation, on August 13, at about 1200 hrs Moscow time, the cook prepared chicken meat and, in violation of the rules, instructed the employees of the sanatorium to serve the dish for dinner.

On the same day, at about 1900 hrs Moscow time, the workers of the sanatorium's catering unit, in the absence of control from the dietician, who did not come to work that day, served chicken meat for dinner, which had already been spoiled, according to a message on the department's website.

From 14 to 15 August, 12 children aged eight to 14, who were vacationing in a sanatorium, were hospitalized with an acute intestinal infection. After the provision of medical assistance, they were all discharged, Interfax writes today.

Part 1 of Article 238 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (provision of services that do not meet the health safety requirements of consumers) provides for up to two years in prison.

Meanwhile in Dagestan:
Contaminated water suspected cause of 23 hospitalized in Dagetsan

[KavkazUzel] A total of 23 residents of the Khunzakh village consulted doctors with symptoms of intestinal infection, including 11 children. Thirteen patients continue their treatment at the hospital, the Dagestan Ministry of Health said today.

As "Caucasian Knot" wrote on October 14, the Ministry of Health of Dagestan reported that eight people -- seven children of preschool and school age and one adult -- were hospitalized in the Khunzakh district hospital with symptoms of intestinal infection.

On October 15 three more victims were admitted to the hospital , two people were discharged. The condition of all patients is mild to moderate, the doctors said. Poisoning could have occurred due to dirty water in the water supply system, investigators, who began checking the incident, suggested.

All mass poisonings in Dagestan in 2021 were associated with water quality , while there is no water supply scheme in the republic and there is not enough treatment facilities, said the acting head of Dagestan Sergey Melikov on April 28 during an interview.

Since October 13, in the village of Khunzakh, 23 people, including 11 children, have consulted doctors with symptoms of an intestinal infection. In the Khunzakh central district hospital, 13 patients with symptoms of acute intestinal infection are being treated, six of them are children, seven more patients are being treated on an outpatient basis, including three children, the Ministry of Health of Dagestan informs today.

After the poisoning, the doctors began to make house-to-house visits to the residents of Khunzakh, said Raisa Shakhsinova, Deputy Minister of Health of Dagestan.

Doctors have already visited "more than 3,000 residents, nine of them had signs of illness and started treatment," she said on the department's Instagram page.

The Ministry of Health of Dagestan has organized preventive phage phaging of the population of the village of Khunzakh for the prevention of acute intestinal infections, TASS writes today.

The "Caucasian Knot" reported that at least five mass poisonings have occurred in Dagestan since the beginning of 2021.

In January, 359 patients turned to doctors with signs of poisoning in Buinaksk, 251 of them were children.

In early February, mass poisoning occurred in the village of Arani, Khunzakh district, where the number of local residents who applied to doctors reached 95. From February 22 to February 24, 29 patients came to the Kaspiysk city hospital with symptoms of intestinal infection, including 26 children, mostly of preschool age.

From 9 to 10 March, 41 people were hospitalized with symptoms of food poisoning in Makhachkala, including 32 children. In the Gergebil district at the end of March, 23 people including 15 children, were poisoned. At the same time, in most cases, dirty drinking water was named as the cause of the poisoning.

Caribbean-Latin America
US, Haiti seek release of 17 missionaries snatched by gang
[AlAhram] U.S. officials are working with Haitian authorities to try to secure the release of 12 adults and five children with a U.S.-based missionary group who were kidnapped over the weekend by a gang notorious for killings, kidnappings and extortion.

The group was snatched by the 400 Mawozo gang, which controls the Croix-des-Bouquets area east of the capital of Port-au-Prince, police inspector Frantz Champagne told The News Agency that Dare Not be Named on Sunday. The abduction happened Saturday in the community of Ganthier, which lies in the gang's area. It was blamed for the kidnapping of five priests and two nuns earlier this year.

As authorities sought the release of the 16 Americans and one Canadian with the Ohio-based Christian Aid Ministries, local unions and other organizations expected to launch a strike Monday to protest Haiti's worsening lack of security.

The Western Hemisphere's poorest nation is again struggling with a spike in gang-related kidnappings that had diminished in recent months, after President Jovenel Moise was fatally shot at his private residence on July 7 and a magnitude 7.2 earthquake killed more than 2,200 people in August.

``Everyone is concerned. They're kidnapping from all social classes,'' Mehu Changeux, president of Haiti's Association of Owners and Drivers, told Magik9 radio station.

The kidnapping of the missionaries came just days after high-level U.S. officials visited Haiti and promised more resources for Haiti's National Police, including another $15 million to help reduce gang violence, which this year has displaced thousands of Haitians who now live in temporary shelters in increasingly unhygienic conditions.

The U.S. State Department said Sunday that it was in regular contact with senior Haitian authorities and would continue to work with them and interagency partners.

``The welfare and safety of U.S. citizens abroad is one of the highest priorities of the Department of State,'' the agency said in a statement.

Christian Aid Ministries said the kidnapped group included seven women, five men and five children, including a 2-year-old. The organization said they were taken while on a trip to visit an orphanage.

An annual report issued last year by Christian Aid Ministries said its American staffers had returned to their base in Haiti after a nine-month absence ``due to political unrest'' and noted the ``uncertainty and difficulties'' that arise from such instability.

Nearly a year ago, Haitian police issued a wanted poster for the alleged leader of the 400 Mawozo gang, Wilson Joseph, on charges including murder, attempted murder, kidnapping, auto theft and the hijacking of trucks carrying goods. He goes by the nickname ``Lanmo Sanjou,'' which means ``death doesn't know which day it's coming.''

Amid the spike in kidnappings, gangs have demanded ransoms ranging from a couple of hundred dollars to more than $1 million, sometimes killing those they have kidnapped, according to authorities.

At least 328 kidnappings were reported to Haiti's National Police in the first eight months of 2021, compared with a total of 234 for all of 2020, said a report last month by the United Nations
...boodling on the grand scale...
Integrated Office in Haiti.

Gangs have been accused of kidnapping schoolchildren, doctors, coppers, busloads of passengers and others as they grow more powerful. In April, a man who claimed to be the leader of 400 Mawozo told a radio station that it was responsible for kidnapping five priests, two nuns and three relatives of one of the priests that month. They were later released.

"The fate of humanity should not be left to the mercy of a handful of countries that won World War Two," Erdogan told Angolan politicians.

The Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) on Saturday announced updated preliminary results after completing manual counting. The results give a clear image of who won and who lost, but who will form the next government remains unclear as several parties will need to come to an agreement and election winners could be left out of the government.

Walgreens cited shoplifting as rationale for closing 5 stores in San Francisco, but local officials, data, and experts cast doubt on that explanation
[MSN] Walgreens announced Tuesday it would be closing five of its the Socialist paradise of San Francisco

Nope. Nope. That can't be it.
While the report said the chain has experienced retail theft, other factors like the COVID-19 pandemic and oversaturation of stores were cited as potential factors behind the decision to close the stores.London Breed
"Just because people can steal stuff don't mean they do!"
"Shuddup. We're still closing."

Walgreens spokesperson Phil Caruso said retail theft across its San Francisco locations has increased in the past few months to five times the chain's average, SFGate reported.
"They can't afford it." -- AOC
However,
we can't all be heroes. Somebody has to sit on the curb and applaLondon Breedud when they go by...
San Francisco Police Department data obtained by the Chronicle contradicts Walgreens' claims, with one of the stores slated to close reporting only 23 shoplifting incidents since 2018. Some incidents of shoplifting likely go unreported, but the closing stores had on average less than two shoplifting reports per month since 2018.
They don't mention dollar loss, nor video coverage of the "unreported" losses.
"Organized retail crime continues to be a challenge facing retailers across San Francisco, and we are not immune to that," Caruso told SFGate. "During this time to help combat this issue, we increased our investments in security measures in stores across the city to 46 times our chain average in an effort to provide a safe environment."
"Not that it cost us any money, but still..."
San Francisco Mayor London Breed pushed back against Walgreens' stated reasoning for closing the stores.
Boy, howdy. That's the way to stop them leaving.
"They are saying (shoplifting is) the primary reason, but I also think when a place is not generating revenue, and when they're saturated - SF has a lot of Walgreens locations all over the city - so I do think that there are other factors that come into play," she told news hounds last week.
"Meh! Five stores? We got lots left. That's still a healthy goose."

Dagestani terror suspect detention extended by Russian court
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[KavkazUzel] A Moscow court left in custody for six months a resident of Dagestan, Magomed Nurov, accused of involvement in organizing terrorist attacks in 2010.

As the "Caucasian Knot" wrote, the investigators believe that Gusen Magomedov was the organizer of the terrorist attacks in the Moscow metro on March 29, 2019, who according to the National Anti-Terrorist Committee, was killed in 2013.

According to the investigation, resident of Dagestan Magomed Nurov helped Magomedov escape after the terrorist attack. In September, the Prosecutor General's Office charged Nurov with involvement in a criminal community and a stable armed group, committing terrorist acts and illegal manufacture of explosive devices. The case has been referred to court.

According to the investigators, acting as a liaison for the gang, he drove its members to meetings where terrorist attacks were planned in the Moscow metro, and also hid a participant in terrorist acts from law enforcement agencies. Nurov fully admitted his guilt.

On March 29, 2010, two explosions took place at the Lubyanka and Park Kultury metro stations. A total of 40 people were killed and over 100 were injured.

The leader of the North Caucasian militants, Doku Umarov, claimed responsibility for these terrorist acts, claiming that he was taking revenge on the military for actions in Chechnya, according to the "Caucasian Knot," "... [for] terrorist acts committed by suicide bombers on the territory of the Russian Federation."

The arrest of Magomed Nurov, accused of involvement in terrorist attacks at the Lubyanka and Park Kultury stations of the Moscow metro in 2010, has been extended for six months.

"The court ruled the petition of the investigation to satisfy and extend the term of Nurov's detention until March 27, 2022," Kommersant quoted the judge as saying.

Nurov and his lawyers objected to the extension of his arrest. The defense noted that the accused is not going to hide from the court, and before the arrest he had a permanent job: he worked as a watchman at a children's sports school in the Moscow region, TASS reported today.

The Second Western District Military Court will begin hearing the case on October 25, the agency said.

The "Caucasian Knot" also wrote that on November 22, 2020, the head of the police department of the Kizlyar district of Dagestan, Gazi Isaev, was detained. He was charged under articles on participation in a criminal community with the use of official position, on banditry and a terrorist act.

According to the investigation, Isaev joined the terrorist organization Imarat Kavkaz, banned in Russia by the court, and using his official position, provided the militants with information about the security forces.

In 2010, he helped the suicide bomber get to Moscow and set up an explosion in the metro there. A Moscow court arrested Isaev, then on October 14 the court extended Isaev's arrest for three months.

A rally demanding the release of Isaev was held in November 2020 by employees of the Kizlyar ROVD, Internet users and retired officers who questioned the court's sincerity.

In April, several deputies of the Kizlyar District Assembly asked the Russian president to take control of the Isayev case, calling him an honest and decent officer. Chairman of the District Assembly Nurudin Kakhirovcalled the appeal a private initiative of the  deputies.

Clashes erupted between ISIS and Iranian militias eastern Syria
[NPASYRIA] On Monday, two ISIS turbans and three Iranian-backed militia members were killed as a result of armed clash between them, in a town east of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria.

ISIS members targeted a military vehicle carrying members of the Iranian-backed Liwa Abu al-Fadl al-Abbas with a guided missile, a military source from the government forces in the city of al-Bukamal on the Syrian-Iraqi border told North Press.

"The targeting took place while a car, which was carrying Liwa Abu al-Fadl al-Abbas members, was leaving a military post near al-Siyal area, west of al-Bukamal, killing three members, all of them were Syrians," the source, who preferred not to be named, added.

The targeting was followed by festivities between the two parties, which resulted in the killing of two ISIS members of Iraqi nationality, according to the same source.

The source pointed out that it is not the first time that this military point has been targeted, as unknown persons targeted it two days ago, without leaving any casualties.

The Iranian-backed militias have controlled the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, since the expulsion of ISIS, in early 2017.

Syria buries former lawmaker allegedly killed by Israeli sniper fire
[IsraelTimes] Hundreds attend funeral of Midhat as-Saleh, who was reportedly assisting Iran’s military presence on the Golan border when he was killed

Syrian intelligence agent allegedly killed by Israeli sniper fire was buried Monday in an official funeral attended by hundreds of people near Damascus.

Midhat as-Saleh, a well-known figure in Syria, was fatally shot Saturday in Ain Eltinah, a village along the Israeli border in the Golan Heights where he ran a Syrian government office. Syria said he was killed by Israeli sniper fire. The Israeli military and other officials declined to comment on the charge.

Hebrew media reports claimed as-Saleh had been assisting the Iranian military presence near the border. If the claims are confirmed, it would mark the first time that Israeli snipers are known to have killed someone identified as an Iranian-linked target across the border.

On Monday as-Saleh’s coffin, wrapped in a Syrian flag, was brought in an ambulance from the Mamdouh Abaza hospital in Qunetira to Jaramana, on the outskirts of Damascus, for burial at a Druze cemetery. Hundreds of people attended, among them bigwigs and Druze holy mans.

As-Saleh’s son, Golan, a 17-year-old student, said that his father had always told him that the Golan Heights would return to Syria.

"I am proud that my father was martyred," he said.

As-Saleh, from the Israeli Druze village of Majdal Shams, was placed in durance vile

in Israel for security-related crimes for 12 years until his release in 1997. He then fled across the border to Syria, serving as a member of the Syrian parliament, namely as head of the "Golan Heights portfolio," according to Syrian media.

In recent years, he has served in Syrian intelligence, still focusing on the country’s efforts to regain the Golan Heights, which were captured by Israel in 1967 and effectively annexed by Jerusalem in 1981.

According to past statements from Israeli officials, as-Saleh in the past worked to recruit people from Majdal Shams — a town whose residents generally do not take Israeli citizenship and who often still identify with Damascus — to serve as assets of the Syrian government and gather intelligence in Israel.

The alleged liquidation appeared to be tied to Israel’s ongoing efforts to prevent Iran

Ukrainian court detains kidnapped LPR observer in the JCCC
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.

Using the traditional Russian spelling in the spelling of Gorlovka (instead of Horlivka) because references to the town in passed posts in rantburg.com also use the Russian spelling.

[REGNUM] The Severodonetsk city court of the Luhansk region, occupied by the Ukrainian security forces, arrested the representative of the Luhansk People's Republic in the Joint Center for Control and Coordination of the Ceasefire Regime (JCCC) Andrei Kosyak, who had previously been abducted while performing his duties as an observer.

The verdict on October 18 was announced by the press service of the prosecutor's office of the "Luhansk region".

"During the pre-trial investigation, it was established that since July 2021, the suspect has been serving as an overseer officer of the representative office of the Special Center for Control and Coordination of the Ceasefire", which is part of the so-called "People's Militia of the LPR."

The detention was carried out by the SBU counterintelligence together with units of the armed forces of Ukraine," the Ukrainian prosecutor's office reports.

As reported by IA REGNUM , on October 13, in the area of the village of Zolote, during the work agreed with Kiev at the withdrawal area in Donbass, Ukrainian militants seized the representative of Luhansk in the JCCC Andrei Kosyak.

Joint Center for Control and Coordination of the Ceasefire Regime (JCCC) is a formal organization of Russian, Ukrainian and now Lugansk officers charged with detecting ceasefire violations in place since the February, 2015 truce.

More details from korrespondent.net:
The OSCE is being held hostage. What's happening in Donetsk

[Korrespondent] OSCE mission blocked in Donetsk
In the occupied Donetsk and Gorlovka, they do not let the staff of the OSCE Monitoring Mission out of the hotels and demand the release of the militant who was detained by the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The OSCE monitoring mission stopped its work in the occupied areas of Donetsk region. All due to the fact that the mission staff were actually blocked in the hotel by representatives of the so-called “DPR”. They are seeking the release of the militant detained by the Ukrainian military. But so far Donbass remains without observers.

How did it start?
On October 13, 2021, the Ukrainian delegation to the Minsk Trilateral Contact Group announced the arrest of a fighter of the so-called “LPR”, a citizen of the Russian Federation Andrei Kosyak, in the Donbas.

The operational group of the Armed Forces of Ukraine detained him in the area of the Zolote checkpoint (Luhansk region) for "gross provocation." Contrary to the agreements, Kosyak conducted reconnaissance, posing as a representative of the JCCC, the Joint Center for Control and Coordination of Ceasefire Issues and Stabilization of the Line of Delimitation of the Parties.

"At about 10:45 am, a group of armed men with armbands from the JCCC, under the guise of carrying out demining work, was conducting reconnaissance of the positions left by the Armed Forces of Ukraine," the Ukrainian delegation told the TKG.

They added that on October 13, the Ukrainian side really provided security guarantees to the participants in the equipment of the site for the opening of the Zolote checkpoint from the side of the temporarily occupied territories. However, such work -- in particular on demining -- had to be carried out "with a clear indication of the routes of movement and determination of the maximum point of advancement towards the positions of the Armed Forces."

Instead, the Ukrainian military noticed an unknown person at the site, where, according to the agreed conditions, no one should have been, so a decision was made to detain him.

Who was detained?
The detainee turned out to be a citizen of the Russian Federation Andrey Valentinovich Kosyak, born in 1978. They confiscated a Makarov pistol with two magazines, as well as documents issued by the "LPR" and an ID of the JCCC.

Ukrainian law enforcement agencies suspect him of committing a grave crime in 2010 (premeditated murder, article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

According to Novosti Donbass, he was born in Alchevsk, was a citizen of Ukraine, but subsequently received a Russian passport.

In the "LPR" and in Russia, Kosyak's detention was used as a pretext to accuse Ukraine of violating the Minsk agreements.

The SBU established that Kosyak fired at the positions of the Ukrainian military in Popasna and Zolote from a mortar, he was informed of suspicion of committing a crime under Part 2 of Art. 260 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (creation of paramilitary or armed formations not provided for by law).

The actions of the militants
On October 15, several dozen young people held a protest action in the center of occupied Donetsk near the Park Inn hotel, where representatives of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission live. Young people came to the hotel with posters, the inscriptions on which contained calls for the release of Kosyak.

In fact, the OSCE representatives were blocked in the hotel The participants of the meeting set up 22 tents (with heat and power supply), as well as dry closets in front of the hotel where the members of the mission live. The mission acknowledged that the blockade prevented any movement of patrols into and out of the premises on 15 and 16 October.

On October 17, similar actions were resorted to in Gorlovka. On Sunday evening, the SMM observed that the vehicle gates of the mission's forward patrol base in Gorlovka had been locked with a chain and padlock. South of the gate, a car with blue "DPR" signs blocked the exit. The SMM also saw several members of the armed formations standing next to the vehicle.

Reaction
The OSCE has already called for the removal of any obstacles to the freedom of movement of the mission's observers.

Serhiy Garmash, a representative of the Ukrainian delegation to the Trilateral Contact Group, said that the militants actually took the observers hostage.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Oleg Nikolenko called the actions of the Russian Federation inadmissible regarding obstruction of the OSCE mission in ORDLO.

"Blocking and pressure on observers of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission in Donetsk is an element of the ongoing efforts of the Russian Federation to destroy the Minsk agreements and stir up the armed conflict," Nikolenko stressed.

He also recalled that in September the Russian Federation closed the OSCE observer mission at the Russian checkpoints across the state border of Gukovo and Donetsk, "to make it impossible to observe and hide from the international community illegal supplies of weapons, ammunition and mercenaries from Russia to Ukraine."

Also from korrespondent.net:
OSCE Mission to Gorlovka unblocked - media

[Korrespondent] The tent camp with the "protesters" near the hotel, where the members of the OSCE mission are accommodated, has been dismantled.

The work of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission in occupied Gorlovka has been unblocked. The tents with "picketers" outside the hotel where the mission is located have been dismantled. Local mass media write about it .

The tent city near the Rodina hotel was set up a few days earlier.

"Patriotic residents of Gorlovka", as the mayor of the city Ivan Prikhodko called them, blocked the exits from the building.
Patriotic because Prikhodko prolly paid them.
The "picketers" demanded the release by the Ukrainian side of the detained Russian citizen Andrey Kosyak.

Later it became known that the representatives of the "protest action" discussed with the members of the OSCE monitoring mission the stop of the picket, since the mission must "ensure the safety of the workers of the filtering station and record the shelling."

Gorlovka is a city in Donetsk People's Republic which has been under near constant artillery fire since 2015.

Via News-Front Russian language news outlet:
Ukrainian militants opened mortar fire on LPR

Slavyanoserbsky region is seven kilometers due west of Schastye, on the Severdonetskiy River.
"At 20:30 from the area of the settlement of the Crimean VFU, the settlement of Sokolniki was fired upon with the use of 82 mm mortars," the message says.

Russia closes NATO missions as ties plunge to new low
“Shut down the pastry buffet, Sasha, and box up the vodka — we’re heading home.”
[AlAhram] Russia said Monday it was suspending its mission to NATO
...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. A cautionary tale of cost-benefit analysis....
and closing the alliance's offices in Moscow, as relations with the Western military bloc plunged to new depths.

Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov announced the moves after NATO expelled several members of Moscow's delegation to the alliance for alleged spying.

"Following certain measures taken by NATO, the basic conditions for common work no longer exist," Lavrov told news hounds in Moscow.

He said Moscow was suspending the work of its official mission to NATO in Brussels, including its military representative, from around November 1.

Russia was also shutting down the alliance's liaison mission in the Belgian embassy in Moscow, set up in 2002, and the NATO information office set up in 2001 to improve understanding between NATO and Russia.

"NATO has already greatly reduced its contacts with our mission," Lavrov said, saying the alliance is "not interested in dialogue and work as equals".

"We see no reason to pretend that any change is possible in the foreseeable future," he said.

Lavrov said that in case of urgent matters NATO could liaise via the Russian ambassador in Belgium.

The moves cut off years of efforts to improve ties between Moscow and NATO that followed the 1991 collapse of the Soviet Union.

They come after NATO earlier this month stripped eight members of Moscow's mission to the alliance of their accreditation, with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg calling them "undeclared Russian intelligence officers".

'MALIGN ACTIVITIES'
"We have seen an increase in Russian malign activities, at least in Europa
...the land mass occupying the space between the English Channel and the Urals, also known as Moslem Lebensraum...
and therefore we need to act," Stoltenberg said at the time, describing the relationship between NATO and Russia as "at its lowest point since the end of the Cold War".

Russia had an observer mission to NATO as part of a two-decade-old NATO-Russia Council meant to promote cooperation in common security areas.

The Russian mission has been downsized before, when seven of its members were ejected after the 2018 Novichok poisoning of a Russian former double agent, Sergei Skripal, and his daughter in Britannia.

Meetings of a NATO-Russia council have not been held since 2019 against the backdrop of the heightened tensions.

Russia's relationship with the West has been on a downward spiral since Moscow's 2014 annexation of Crimea from Ukraine and support for pro-Russian separatists in the country's east.

Western nations have imposed a series of sanctions in recent years over Ukraine, alleged election interference, cyberattacks and the poisoning of Kremlin critic Alexei Navalny.

Moscow in turn has accused the West of interfering in its elections and of supporting anti-Kremlin forces in countries like Ukraine and Georgia that Russia considers part of its traditional sphere of influence.

Lavrov's announcements came after US Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin landed in Tbilisi on the first leg of a visit to three allies on the Black Sea -- Georgia, Ukraine and Romania -- aiming to deliver a message of support against threats from Russia.

NATO defence ministers, including Austin, will be in Brussels on Thursday and Friday for a series of meetings.

IDF: False alarm heard in south the result of ‘human error’

[IsraelTimes] The Israel Defense Forces says the false alarm heard earlier in the day in southern Israel was the result of "human error."

Earlier this afternoon, sirens were triggered in the city of Ashkelon and nearby towns, all of which have repeatedly been targeted by rocket fire from the Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It is currently ruled with an iron fist by Hamaswith about the living conditions you'd expect. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response...
Strip.

The military quickly clarified that this was a false alarm.

"An initial investigation of the incident found that this was a human error. There was no damage to the operational functionality of the alert system," the IDF says.
