Dutch police fire shots as COVID protests rock Rotterdam
[Aljazeera] Dutch police opened fire on protesters and seven people were injured in rioting that erupted in downtown Rotterdam at a demonstration against recently introduced COVID-19 restrictions and government plans to restrict access for unvaccinated people to some venues.

The Dutch city’s Mayor Ahmed Aboutaleb told reporters in the early hours of Saturday morning that "on a number of occasions the police felt it necessary to draw their weapons to defend themselves" as rioters ran rampage through the port city’s central shopping district, setting fires and throwing rocks and fireworks at officers in what Aboutaleb called "an orgy of violence".

"[The police] shot at protesters, people were injured," Aboutaleb said. He did not have details on the injuries. Police also fired warning shots.

A number of police officers also were injured in the violence and officers arrested dozens of people and expect to arrest more after studying video footage from security cameras, Aboutaleb said.

The situation had largely calmed down later on Friday night, but there was a heavy police presence.

Yes, both non-lethal and ball ammo tend to have a calming effect. Ball ammo produces a longer last calm however.

On its pit, and forsooth,
Freed a seed of sweet Taliban mahaleb!

US Navy ‘melding' with United Kingdom and Australia in race to counter China threat
[Washington Examiner] A recent landmark deal to share U.S. and British nuclear submarine technology with Australia sets the table for "a melding" of the three navies, according to a senior White House official.

"I would think, in the next little while, we will have more British sailors serving on our naval vessels, Australians and the like, more of our forward-deployed assets in Australia," Kurt Campbell, the White House National Security Council’s Indo-Pacific affairs coordinator, said Friday. "This leads to a deeper interconnection and almost a melding, in many respects, of our services and working together on [a] common purpose that we couldn't have dreamed about five, 10 years ago."

That alignment figures to be a mainstay of U.S. efforts to counter threats from China, where communist officials are at the helm of an economic heavyweight intent on building a world-class military. And while nuclear submarine technology sits at the center of the pact between Australia, the United Kingdom, and the United States, or AUKUS, as the deal is known, officials remain conscious of the need to field military capabilities that would be relevant in a conflict well before those nuclear submarines are constructed.

"We realize and recognize that there are some immediate and medium-term challenges and that we can't simply wait for long-term solutions," Campbell told the United States Institute of Peace. "And I think there's a deep recognition that that's the time frame we're working on."

Plandemic Update - Fauci expects vaccine will be available for babies in 2022
[Washington Examiner] White House chief medical adviser Anthony Fauci said Thursday that he is hopeful that the COVID-19 vaccine will be available to babies 6 months and older starting in 2022.

The Food and Drug Administration authorized Pfizer's vaccine for children ages 5 to 11 in late October, meaning that the only group left to gain access to the vaccine includes babies, toddlers, and young children.

"Hopefully within a reasonably short period of time, likely the beginning of next year in 2022, in the first quarter of 2022, it will be available to them," Fauci told Business Insider . "Can't guarantee it — you've got to do the clinical trial."

Pfizer has moved the quickest among its peers with vaccine development, but it has not submitted clinical data yet for children 6 months to 5 years, according to Business Insider .

Both Pfizer and Moderna have reportedly been expanding their clinical trials to test their COVID-19 vaccine for children in this age group, the New York Times reported.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
How Long before Mexican Cartels Set Up Their Own States in the USA?
[American Thinker] A few days ago, The Daily Caller released its first investigative documentary: Cartelville USA. The film is short — only 36 minutes — and you can watch it here with a subscription or free trial. There is also an interview on the Federalist Radio Hour with the director, Jorge Ventura, which is nearly as long as the documentary itself.

In case the title doesn't give it away, the topic of Cartelville USA is a string of communities in the California desert that have been taken over by drug cartels. The cartels grow marijuana in hoop houses on land that may or may not be theirs, using slave labor and stolen water. They pack heavy weapons and gun down whoever looks too much like a rival or a threat, and they generally do as they wish.

"These drug cartels are wreaking havoc on the entire antelope valley, and nobody is talking about it," says the narrator near the beginning of the film. "This is the cartels. We are very, very close to driving down the freeway, and seeing bodies hanging from the overpasses. That is what's coming."

Ventura's disturbing look into the growing power of drug cartels on this side of the border caught my interest because it has two important political ramifications, one short-term and the other long-term. But before I discuss those in detail, a summary of what I learned from the documentary is in order.

The setting is, for the most part, in rural Los Angeles County, though it extends into neighboring counties as well. The inhabitants are, for the most part, old, working-class conservatives who settled there in their twilight years to get away from the bustle of city life, only to be rudely surprised by what is going on. And you can tell that something is deeply wrong from the get-go by the fact that most of the people Ventura interviews (the sheriff and Congressman Mike Garcia being notable exceptions) have their faces blurred to avoid recognition.

Ventura and his crew reveal how a combination of Mexican, Chinese, and Armenian organized crime syndicates are growing marijuana in hoop houses in the California desert. Some growers own the land or are in league with absentee landlords, while others are just squatters. The hoop houses, complete with lights and irrigation systems, can be set up in just a day or two, and even when police get a search warrant, the law usually allows them to take only the marijuana plants, while leaving everything else, so the whole enterprise carries surprisingly little risk.

Labor is provided by illegal aliens brought from Mexico or China and forced to work by their traffickers; water is simply stolen, often from fire hydrants.

Most Californians are unaware of the severity of the problem: in their minds, since their state already legalized marijuana, they shouldn't have to worry about this kind of thing anymore. "People just shrug their shoulders," says Ventura. "Who cares, it's just pot, like, why are we even wasting our tax dollars fighting this issue?"

Yet Proposition 64, which passed in 2016, was in many ways a half-measure. While Californians can now legally grow weed under some circumstances, there are enough licensing requirements, regulatory requirements, and production limits to ensure that it's still much more profitable to do it illegally — and that's before you add in the fact that, due to federal law still frowning on everyone involved in the cannabis trade, no money earned by selling the stuff can be deposited into a bank account. Then tally up the costs saved by using stolen water and forced labor, and it's easy to see why working outside the law is still the most profitable option.

-Great Cultural Revolution
Media Found Guilty On All Counts
[Babylon Bee] KENOSHA, WI—In a verdict that surprised both the prosecution, defense, and judge, the jury for the Rittenhouse trial declared that the Media be found guilty on all counts.

The courtroom fell silent as the jury foreman stood to read the verdict, "We the jury find the media guilty on all counts, including the egregious use of its influence to lie to the American people."

The jury then listed guilty verdicts for the following allegations:

  • Painting an innocent American teenager as a white supremacist terrorist.
  • Painting violent, communist criminals as peaceful, innocent victims.
  • Using its influence to sow painful divisions in the greatest nation on Earth.
  • Using minorities as pawns in race-baiting schemes just for ratings.
  • Inciting violence on vulnerable neighborhoods and minority-owned businesses.
  • Giving an entire show to Brian Stelter.

Upon hearing the verdicts, the judge summarily sentenced the Media to continue its inevitable decline in viewership and trust, until they either strive for objective journalism, or disappear entirely.

Following the verdicts and sentencing, the Media immediately reported to the American people that a murderous white supremacist terrorist was set free, given a KKK outfit and bazooka, and told to kill, kill, kill.

Capital Punishment - Everything you were told about Jan 6 was a lie
[Gateway Pundit] The outspoken, conservative actor and producer of Capitol Punishment, Nick Searcy, showed up for the interview with Gateway Pundit and 100 Percent Fed Up wearing a MAGA hat and a "Let’s Go Brandon" t-shirt. The director of Capitol Punishment, Chris Burgard, is wearing a cowboy hat.

Searcy and Burgard told an incredible story of twin 75-year-old grandmothers who walked up the open doors of the Capitol on January 6 and asked if they could go inside? The Capitol Police told them, "Yes," that they could go inside. According to our guests, the elderly women walked inside the Capitol and walked back outside. After they returned home, their neighbors called the FBI on them. They were arrested by the FBI and charged with "criminal trespassing" and were told they would be put on a domestic terrorist list.

When asked about Ray Epps and his involvement in the so-called "insurrection," Chris Burgard replied by calling Ray Epps an "agent provocateur." He explained that there were "many, many, many Ray Epps" in the crowd, adding that there were "teams of Ray Epps out there that were coordinating" He relayed a story about a man "who was very similar to Ray Epps," who was offering medical help to a "very in-shape 27-year-old fella, decked out in tactical gear who had gotten stuff in his eye." When Rich, a person on their team, who described the man administering first aid as a "commander who was helping one of his troops," began to record him with their phone, the alleged agent snapped, grabbed Rich’s wrist until he dropped the phone. The "commander" then threatened Rich, telling him, "If you took pictures of this, there are people that are gonna want to hurt you. And I don’t wanna see you get hurt." According to Chris, the "commander" went back to his earpiece and began speaking to someone apparently on the inside of the Capitol, asking, "Yeah, what hallway are you in? Where are you?" and proceeded to give him specific directions to help him navigate inside the Capitol. Chris told us, "So, that guy’s a director, he’s not a player," adding that there were "all kinds of guys like that there on that day."

An African mystery: Where did COVID go?
[Hot Air] There’s something strange happening in Africa which, according to the Associated Press, has scientists "mystified." The curious situation is particularly prevalent in Zimbabwe. It’s a nation with a population of 14.8 million people and a vaccination rate of less than 6%, a fact that the World Health Organization lectures us about endlessly. And yet in the past week, they recorded a total of 33 COVID deaths. How is this possible? The AP interviewed a number of people who were shopping in a township outside Harare, almost none of whom were wearing masks. One man declared that the virus was "gone" and asked the reporter, "when did you last hear of anyone who has died of COVID-19?" He said that he carries a mask in his pocket because the police demand bribes from people without masks or they are threatened with arrest, but he rarely puts it on. Doctors have a few theories they are tossing around, though many are simply stumped. But I bet some of us who aren’t medical professionals could make a guess.

    BLUF:

I’m sure I’ll be locked up in the COVID "misinformation" jail for suggesting this, and I will once again repeat the disclaimer that I have no formal medical training. But it’s something to think about. Perhaps the situation in Zimbabwe really isn’t all the much of a "mystery" after all. Maybe... just maybe... all we’re seeing is mother nature taking her natural course. The human body contains all sorts of marvels and surprises from time to time. We just recently learned of the second person confirmed to have completely recovered from HIV without any medical treatment. It makes me wonder how many other people have contracted HIV but were never tested for it and went on to fight it off on their own. When was the last time anyone tested you for HIV? I haven’t had a test since right before I was married, nearly 30 years ago. Just some food for thought for you on a Friday.

Women's Tennis Willing to Give Up Millions $$$ if Beijing Won't Account for Missing Peng Shuai
[PJ] The Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) will pull out of China, costing the organization "hundreds of millions of dollars" if the Communist government in Beijing won’t account for star player Peng Shuai and investigate her explosive allegations of sexual misconduct by a high-ranking Party official.

WTA chief Steve Simon told CNN on Thursday, "We’re definitely willing to pull our business and deal with all the complications that come with it."
Bravo WTA! Actions our feckless government would never consider undertaking.
"Because this is certainly, this is bigger than the business," he added.

Simon insisted that Chinese officials handle the investigation "properly, meaning the allegations must be investigated fully, fairly, transparently and without censorship."

Shuai — a former Wimbledon and French Open doubles champion— went missing two weeks ago, just a few days after accusing former Vice Premier Zhang Gaoli of having sexually assaulted her three years ago.

Weibo, China’s state-controlled social media platform, deleted Shuai’s allegations shortly after she published them.

    Government Corruption
Georgia governor orders probe into 'sloppy' November 2020 vote counts in Fulton County
[Just The News] In a rare act for a state chief executive, Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp has referred the audited November 2020 election results in the state's largest voting metropolis to the State Election Board after multiple reviews found significant problems with absentee ballot counting that included duplicate tallies, math errors and transposed data.

Kemp referred Fulton County's risk-limiting audit results this week to election regulators, saying he was not asking for any changes to the declaration that Joe Biden beat Donald Trump but was alarmed by the level of sloppy vote counting in the county that includes the city of Atlanta.

The errors could have skewed the audit totals reported to the state by several thousand votes, according to a 36-item summary Kemp included with his letter. Biden was declared the state's winner by about 12,000 votes.

Rep. Sabatini Warns ‘Scandal-Ridden' Biden Admin. Playing ‘Dangerous Game' Weaponizing FBI Against American People
[Breitbart] In an exclusive interview with Breitbart News on Thursday, U.S. congressional candidate and state Rep. Anthony Sabatini (R-FL) discussed the recent January 6 committee subpoenas to numerous former members of the Trump administration, warning of the legal precedents being set by the Department of Justice (DOJ) — an agency he deemed "rotten to its core" by the scandal-ridden Biden administration, which he accused of weaponizing the FBI against the American people.

    January 6 Commission:

Sabatini began with his take on the House select committee’s aim to investigate the January 6 Capitol riot.

"The [committee’s] goal is to try and use process crimes to inflict pain on their [political] enemies because if someone did nothing wrong, it’s easier to just launch an investigation and then try to find fault related to where the process rolls out," he said.

"Usually, it’s an obstruction charge," he added.

He also expressed his belief that the commission’s real purpose is actually about "finding ways to entangle people in the law."

    China-Japan-Koreas
An American who had been blocked for years from leaving China has returned to the US

Daniel Hsu’s return also coincided with the United States’ deportation of seven Chinese nationals convicted of crimes, including at least one who was sought by Beijing to face fraud charges. A US government official denied the individuals were part of an exchange.

For the latest headlines, follow our Google News channel online or via the app.

The US official, authorized to speak to Reuters on the condition of anonymity, confirmed that Hsu - who had never been convicted of a crime in China and had been under an exit ban for more than four years - had been allowed by Chinese authorities to leave the country last weekend.

He arrived home on Monday evening, just as President Joe Biden held a 3 and 1/2 hour video conference with Chinese leader Xi Jinping.

Hsu, a Chinese American, was one of an undisclosed number of US citizens the United States says China is holding unlawfully under “coercive exit bans.”

The exit bans are one of many disputes that have sent US-Sino relations to their lowest point in years. The US government warned citizens this year to reconsider travel to China due to the exit bans, which it said China can use to “gain bargaining leverage over foreign governments.”

US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) said separately that it had flown back to China the Chinese nationals, including individuals convicted of fraud and photographing a defense installation, as well as two women who had tried to gain access to former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort.

Their return marked what US officials said were “initial steps” to resolve a long running feud between Beijing and Washington over China’s refusal to accept the repatriation of tens of thousands of Chinese nationals subject to removal orders.

Hsu told the Associated Press last year that he had effectively been held hostage by Chinese authorities since 2017 in an attempt to lure his father back to China to face decades-old embezzlement charges.

Chinese authorities have been silent over Hsu’s case.

ICE told Reuters in a statement that Xu Guojun, a former president of a Bank of China branch who fled to the United States in 2001 and had been wanted in China on suspicion of embezzlement, was among the Chinese nationals deported. China confirmed his return on Sunday.

Others sent back to China included Zhang Yujing and Lu Jing, who both tried to enter Mar-a-Lago in 2019; Wang Yuhao and Zhang Jielun, who had been sentenced to 10 months and 12 months respectively for photographing a US defense installation in Florida; and Sun Yong and Tang Junliang, convicted of financial crimes.

One source with knowledge of the deportation operation, who was not authorized to speak to Reuters, said there was broad approval within the US government for what was seen as an effort to show goodwill ahead of the virtual summit.

But the source added some officials were concerned about the optics of an apparent exchange linked to the meeting, worried it would encourage Beijing to use more exit bans.

Two American siblings facing exit bans from China since 2018 were released by Beijing in September just days after an agreement that allowed Huawei Chief Financial Officer Meng Wanzhou to return to China from Canada.

At the time, the White House said her return to China and the near-simultaneous release of two Canadians detained shortly after her arrest was not a prisoner swap.

China’s Foreign Ministry hailed the return of Xu, the former bank branch president, as a “major achievement” in its fugitive hunt.

But some of the others had been among the more than 40,000 Chinese nationals subject to final removal orders from the United States on which the Department of Homeland Security says China refuses to cooperate.

A DHS spokesperson said the department hoped to work with China on the removals, but noted that it imposed visa sanctions on Chinese officials last year for refusal to facilitate the repatriations.

“As the PRC government continues to flout its international obligations and disrespect US law, DHS will continue to seek escalated consequences when necessary,” the DHS spokesperson said.

    India-Pakistan
Decided to repeal all three farm laws, says PM Modi
The big Sikh landowners appear to have won their fight against a government attempt to break up their chokehold on the sale of small farm products, supported by the Khalistan independence activists trained by Pakistan’s ISI. Still, that gave Indian security a year to identify and arrest activists and networks, so something useful no doubt came out of the failed effort.
[OneIndia] Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his address to the nation announced on Friday that the Centre will repeal the three controversial farm laws, and appealed to the protesting farmers to return home.

Addressing the nation on the auspicious occasion of Guru Nanak Jayanti, Modi insisted that the laws were in the benefit of farmers and then apologised to people of the country while adding that the government could not convince a section of farmers despite its clear heart and clean conscience.

Prime Minister said that three farm laws were brought to empower and strengthen small farmers, adding that it was a demand by farmers, economists and agri experts.

    Science & Technology
European Medicines Agency Data Shows 1,163,356 Adverse Drug Reactions and 30,551 Fatalities by COVID-19 Vaccinations
[GatewayPundit] Total reactions for the mRNA vaccine Tozinameran (code BNT162b2, Comirnaty) from BioNTech/ Pfizer: 14,303 fatalities and 562,213 cases of adverse reaction to 11/13/2021 as identified in EudraVigilance:

A report from Health Impact News mentioned that the database maintained at EudraVigilance is only for countries in Europe who are part of the European Union (EU), which comprises 27 countries. That means, adverse reaction from the COVID vaccines would be much higher if we include all countries in Europe.

According to European Medicines Agency, an official website of the European Union, the data of adverse reaction from COVID-19 vaccines were posted in ADRreports.eu portal that "allows users to view the total number of individual suspected side effect reports (also known as Individual Case Safety Reports, or ICSRs)."

All the data shown in the website and individual case report forms were taken from EudraVigilance, "a system designed for collecting reports of suspected side effects, used for evaluating the benefits and risks of medicines during their development and monitoring their safety following their authorization in the European Economic Area (EEA)."
Given the massive number of extreme side effects and deaths, there is no way in hell these drug companies didn't see similar results during their short trials. The CDC and NIH also absolutely must know.

    From ADRreports website:
Pharmaceutical companies that hold the marketing authorisation of a medicine, as well as medicines regulatory authorities in the EEA, are legally required to submit reports of suspected side effects to EudraVigilance. This includes reports received from healthcare professionals and patients. This excludes non-serious side effects occurring outside the EEA.

The web report does not include reports from studies (e.g. clinical trial, non-interventional study) or other types of reports (i.e. only spontaneous reports).

A side effect is classified as ’serious’ if it (i) results in death, (ii) is life-threatening, (iii) requires hospitalisation or prolongation of existing hospitalisation, (iv) results in persistent or significant disability/incapacity (as per reporter’s opinion), (v) is a congenital anomaly/birth defect, or (vi) results in some other medically important conditions.

Opium Price Spikes in Recent Months: UNODC
[ToloNews] The farmers in the southern province of Helmand
...an Afghan province populated mostly by Pashtuns, adjacent to Injun country in Pak Balochistan...
say that they will cultivate opium as its products make better profits than other crops, especially as the price of opium has increased compared to the previous years.

"When we plant the seeds, it takes six to seven months to grow fully. The people here are using the white flower seeds," said a Samiullah, a farmer.

Officials of the Islamic Emirate said they are trying to facilitate ways for the cultivation of poppy alternatives.

"In cooperation with several international organizations, we want to facilitate alternative ways for the people to cultivate other crops in order to prevent smuggling and narcotics in Afghanistan," said Inamullah Samangani, deputy front man of the Islamic Emirate.

According to UNODC findings, income from Afghan opiates amounted to US$ 1.8 billion to 2.7 billion in 2021 inside Afghanistan, but much larger profits are made in the illicit drug supply chains outside the country.
The UNODC said in a recent report that the price of opium has recently surged. According to UNODC findings, income from Afghan opiates amounted to US$ 1.8 billion to 2.7 billion in 2021 inside Afghanistan, but much larger profits are made in the illicit drug supply chains outside the country. Increased political uncertainty in Afghanistan since August 2021 is driving up opium prices, which almost doubled in August compared to May, said UNODC.

The UNODC said that around 300 tons of pure heroin was expected to be produced in Afghanistan this year.

"If there is no cooperation with the Islamic Emirate on the international level, the poppy cultivation will be a big challenge for Afghanistan and the world," said Atif Mukhtar, head of the strategic studies center.

The UNODC also warned that alongside rising opium and heroin production, methamphetamine manufacture in Afghanistan, using the wild ephedra plant as a precursor, has sharply increased in recent years.

Helmand is said to be producing a significant amount of the world's opium. Its residents have become well-experienced in its cultivation.

The lack of markets for Afghanistan’s fresh and dry fruits is said to be a cause in the rise of poppy growth. Many neighboring countries have closed their borders with Afghanistan.
So if the US is no longer nation building,
NOW can we burn the poppies?

US diplomats blast Biden vaccine mandate in internal cable
[IsraelTimes] Memo sent by dozens of State Department employees through official dissent channel says policy violates their rights, say unvaxxed are being shunned and bullied by colleagues.

Dozens of diplomats and employees from the United States Department of State sent a cable to the Director of Policy Planning on Thursday protesting the department’s COVID-19 vaccine mandate and saying unvaccinated workers were being shunned and bullied by their colleagues, The Times of Israel has learned.

Titled "Dissent Channel: Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Medical Freedom," the internal message argued that the COVID-19 vaccination executive order for all federal employees signed by US President Joe The Big Guy Biden
...46th president of the U.S., who gives the term geriatric a bad name. He blames Afghans for losing Afghanistan....
on September 9 violates the US Constitution, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and the ideals expressed by US Vice President Kámala Harris
Former Oakland mayor Willie Brown's former mistress, then a senatrix from California, and then a former 2020 Dem presidential hopeful. She dropped out because she was polling in negative numbers because of racism or misogyny or something like that. Her father is a Marxist professor emeritus at Stanford and her mother is an Indian of the Hindoo tribe. She is reputedly the proud descendant of a long line of women. Joe Biden picked her for her skin tone, feeling she could also bring in the Native American, women's, and bimbo votes. She's an outstanding exemplar of the Peter Principle, proudly displaying her level of competence in her handling of the Biden Border Surge
    on the same day.

"On September 9, 2021," read the cable, "Vice President Harris summarized the importance of these ideals at the White House by stating, ’When people are able to design their lives in a way that they can determine their own futures, we are a stronger democracy and we are a stronger nation. When people are able to make choices without government interference for themselves — in terms of their wellbeing and the wellbeing of their family, in consultation with whomever they may choose — we are a stronger society.'

The diplomats, whose names are classified, argued that the mandate has created a "toxic and hostile work environment."

"Although the Department spends millions of dollars on mandatory training for its employees and other worldwide initiatives to promote diversity, equality, inclusion, anti-discrimination, anti-bullying, and protection of personally identifiable and health information, many of us are experiencing violations of these standards," they wrote.

"Regrettably, Department leadership has done little to counter the ongoing vitriol and discrimination as the ’unvaxxed’ are banned from using government facilities, publicly berated by superiors, excluded from work and social events, and subjected to ’counseling sessions.'"

They told of being called "plague rats" and having colleagues refuse to sit in the same room.

"The enforcement of this mandate will result in the loss of trained and experienced personnel throughout the federal government," read the cable. "Consequently, the progress of our mission will be impeded, our national security will be at greater risk, and it will take the Department many years to correct the sudden attrition to meet the great challenges around the globe."

The signatories — "a diverse group including minorities, immigrants colonists, LGBTQI+, people of faith, those vaccinated against COVID-19 and unvaccinated" — argued that they can continue exercising the same precautions they have for the past 20 months.

"We urge the Department, and the Administration, to abandon this divisive
...politicians call things divisive when when the other side sez something they don't like. Their own statements are never divisive, they're principled...
and ineffective mandate and to remedy the damage it has inflicted on the Department’s esprit de corps," the cable concluded. "This pandemic will pass, but the damage to the State Department’s reputation, effectiveness, and employee morale will not."

Established in 1971, the dissent channel is an official State Department internal messaging service for diplomats and employees to criticize US government policy and be protected from retaliation.

Biden’s vaccination mandates could affect as many as 100 million people, including health care workers, employees of government contractors, and employees in companies with more than 100 workers.

UAZ is being prepared for sale
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[REGNUM] The Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant (UAZ LLC) is being prepared for sale, the Kommersant newspaper writes.

According to the sources of the publication, the company has been relieved of non-core assets: this being done by Sollers Auto. The search for a new platform for car production will begin in the first quarter of next year.

Earlier, the general director of UAZ, Adil Shirinov, at the online conference "Business Online" said that the enterprise would eventually be closed. The cars produced at the plant are not planned to be modernized.

“UAZ cannot create a new product. First, it means huge investments, expertise, and so on. To create a product ... What ?! You need to keep up with the times. The new product will be created by those who can do it. "

The head of the enterprise noted that the plant has its own segment of off-road vehicles, which "today needs to be worked out - before a more competent solution is found."

Later, the Vedomosti newspaper clarified that UAZ will become a partner of the global auto concern: the foreign partner will provide its platform for the production of cars under its own brand and under the UAZ brand. This should be expected in 2022.

Germany, Netherland to directly fund Afghan teachers and doctors
    Money being fungible, and all..,
[KhaamaPress] Germany sent their high-level diplomats to Afghanistan for the first time after the Taliban
    ...Arabic for students...
takeover and met with the Taliban’s Deputy Prime Minister and acting foreign minister.

Germany pledged to be providing the people of Afghanistan with humanitarian aid but added not to help the de-facto authorities in Kabul directly.

The German Foreign Minister in a statement said the country’s special representative for Afghanistan, Jasper Wieck, and ambassador-designate Markus Potzel met on November 18 with high-ranking officials from the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan.

The delegation was accompanied by a Dutch special representative for Afghanistan Emiel de Bont.

Germany’s Foreign Minister in the statement said that both sides acknowledged that continued operational contacts on issues where practical cooperation is both necessary and possible, in particular, to address the humanitarian plight of the Afghan people.

Taliban’s spokesperson Zabiullah Mujahid said that Afghanistan’s acting foreign minister Amir Khan Motaqi met with the European delegation and acknowledged that the money is better to be sent to teachers and doctors’ accounts directly to prevent delay.

In the meantime, Germany has said that the Taliban officials committed to providing humanitarian workers safe and unhindered access to people in need.

It comes as the Taliban are not yet recognized but Western countries have pledged to engage with the de-facto authorities in Kabul to address the humanitarian crisis.

Uganda's Kampala bombings: Muslim cleric accused of jihadist links shot dead
[Garowe] Security forces in Uganda have rubbed out a Moslem holy man accused of working with an gang linked to suicide kabooms in the capital Kampala.

Officials said Sheikh Muhammad Abas Kirevu had recruited for cells run by the Allied Democratic Forces
...the ADF is one of several murderous Moslem groups in NE Congo. In 2019 the U.S. Treasury Department imposed sanctions on them for the usual reasons. They don't appear to be affiliated with al-Qaeda or Islamic State, though ISIS claims their work from time to time — they just like killing infidels....
(ADF) - rebels who have pledged allegiance to the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
    group.

He was killed just outside Kampala.

At least four people were killed by attackers on cycle of violences who blew themselves up in the city on Tuesday.

More than 30 others were maimed in the attack, which IS said was behind and officials have blamed on the ADF.

The Islamist bad boy ADF was formed in Uganda in the 1990s but is now based in the Democratic Republic of the Congo
...formerly the Congo Free State, Belgian Congo, Zaire, and who knows what else, not to be confused with the Brazzaville Congo aka Republic of Congo, which is much smaller and much more (for Africa) stable. DRC gave the world Patrice Lumumba and Joseph Mobutu, followed by years of tedious civil war. Its principle industry seems to be the production of corpses. With a population of about 74 million it has lots of raw material...
. Since pledging allegiance to IS in 2019, it has increasingly carried out attacks in the group's name.

Twenty-one people have been arrested since Tuesday's attack, in what police have described as the dismantling of ADF terrorist cells in Kampala and across the country.

Police spokesperson Fred Enanga said 13 suspects, including several children, were intercepted while trying to cross the border into DR Congo.

On Wednesday, four suspected ADF operatives were killed near the border.

A manhunt is also underway for another holy man, Sheikh Suleiman Nsubuga, who is accused of training terrorists, radicalising potential recruits, and providing materials to make improvised bombs.

Tuesday's attack was the latest in a number of recent bomb explosions in Kampala.

Last month, a 20-year-old waitress was killed after a device, left in a shopping bag, detonated in a bar in the city. Days later several people were maimed when a jacket wallah went kaboom! in a bus near Kampala. Police say both were linked to the ADF.

The bombings on Tuesday marked the biggest attack the ADF has been linked to in Uganda since establishing relations with IS.

    -Short Attention Span Theater-
Mike Tyson's bodyguard reveals the heavyweight champ 'would have sex with groupies before fights to diminish his power because he was scared of killing his opponents in the ring'
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news]
    • Mike Tyson was so scared of killing opponents in the ring, he often had sex with groupies before fights to diminish his strength, his former bodyguard claims

    • Bodyguard and chauffeur Rudy Gonzalez said he would tuck girls away 'in bathrooms and changing rooms' so Tyson could have sex with them before fights

    • The strategy may have worked. Tyson, now 55, never did kill anyone in the ring, although he bit off a piece of Evander Holyfield's ear in 1997, leading to a DQ

    • As Gonzalez explained, the ritual was born out of the champ's fear of killing another boxer: 'His biggest fear was that he would kill someone in that ring'

    • Gonzalez added that Tyson also 'had an anxiety problem where he would be in despair with anxiety of not feeling good enough or not wanting to screw it up'

Missiles fired at Turkey’s Bashiqa base, no casualties: Nineveh deputy governor
[Rudaw] Rockets were fired at a Ottoman Turkish base in Nineveh province on Friday morning, the deputy governor told Rudaw.

"Multiple rockets were fired at the Ottoman Turkish military base in Bashiqa town’s Zilkan, and according to our sources, one rocket landed near the village of Jubran and another near the village of Baybokh of the Shabaks, and the other two rockets were taken down by the Ottoman Turkish forces," Rafaat Smo told Rudaw’s Hemin Baban.

Smo added that no casualties were reported.

The base is home to Ottoman Turkish personnel in Zilkan, 10 kilometers from the town of Bashiqa in Nineveh province. It was targeted earlier this year in April when four rockets were fired, killing one Ottoman Turkish soldier and injuring two civilians, including a 12-year-old girl, in the attack.

Ottoman Turkish soldiers have been at the base for several years, despite calls from Iraqi officials for them to leave.

Abducted Psychiatrist Killed Despite Paid Ransom
[ToloNews] Mohammad Nader Alemi, a psychiatrist and head of the mental health department of Mazar-e-Sharif hospital, was killed after being kidnapped and held for two months.

Alemi’s son, Ahmad Royen, said security officials called them on Friday morning saying that Alemi’s body has been found.

According to Royen, his father was kidnapped by unknown gunnies two months ago from Mazar-e-Sharif.

Royen said the kidnappers had asked for $800,000 as ransom, but finally they agreed to release him in exchange for $350,000. Royen said they had paid the money, but his father was still killed.

"He was old and was suffering from some health problems. There are signs of beating on his body too," he said.

A number of doctors in Balkh province said they are worried about their security.

Ghawsuddin Anwari, a doctor, said: "This is worrying for doctors who work in Balkh province."

Shiekh Mir Sadam, head of Balkh’s health department, said security forces are working to identify the killers. "Some people have been arrested in relation to this incident and an investigation is ongoing," he said.

Balkh doctors said Alemi had worked as a psychiatrist for 40 years and was the founder of the first private psychiatric hospital in Balkh.

Alemi’s relatives urged the Islamic Emirate to identify his killers and bring them to justice.

    Meanwhile,

Turkey says three civilians killed in Afrin rocket attack
[Rudaw] A rocket attack in Syrian northwestern city of Afrin killed three civilians and injured ten others late on Friday, according to a statement from a Ottoman Turkish governor’s office that blames Kurdish fighters.

The People’s Protection Units (YPG) "carried out a rocket attack against Afrin downtown, killing three civilians and injuring ten others," said the governor’s office of The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the occupiers of Greek Asia Minor...
's Hatay province, which borders Afrin, state media reported.

The Ottoman Turkish defence ministry said six rockets were fired into the centre of Afrin.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that one civilian was killed and eight others were maimed.

First responders the White Helmets said that three were killed and 16 others were maimed.

Afrin is a Kurdish-majority region located in Syria’s northwest. It has seen many deadly bombings since Ottoman Turkish forces and their Syrian proxies invaded in 2018, expelling the YPG and forcefully displacing much of the local population, committing what the United Nations
...a lucrative dumping ground for the relatives of dictators and party hacks...
has said are possible war crimes.

Turkey and its media usually blame the YPG for deadly attacks in Afrin, but the group has denied targeting civilians. The YPG has not immediately commented on Friday's attack.

At least four people were killed and several maimed in a boom-mobileing in a market in the centre of Afrin on October 11.

Rittenhouse Acquittal Reaffirms of the Ancient Right of Self Defense
    By James S. Robbins

[NYSun] The acquittal of Kyle Rittenhouse on charges of killing two persons and wounding a third during the riots in Kenosha, Wisconsin, will likely go down in history as a broad reaffirmation in America of the ancient right to self defense.

Mr. Rittenhouse was ordered by Judge Bruce Schroeder to stand and face the verdict shortly after noon. He stood solemnly, his hands crossed in front of him, until the pronouncement of not guilty on the third charge, when he began to weep. As the fifth acquittal was announced, he collapsed.

The verdict was brought in by a jury that — apparently — was uncowed by threats of violence and more riots should it acquit the 18-year-old who had come to Kenosha with a semi-automatic rifle and been pursued by rioters. Mr. Rittenhouse’s actions were caught on video tape that apparently played a role in convincing jurors he acted in self defense.

The video evidence made plain that Mr. Rittenhouse was in a chaotic situation and under physical threat and seemed, prima facie, to undermine the prosecution’s attempts to cast as beyond a reasonable doubt the idea that Mr. Rittenhouse had committed murder. During the trial, Mr. Rittenhouse gave lengthy testimony in his own defense.

An effort by the prosecution to suggest that Mr. Rittenhouse’s bearing a weapon in Kenosha was in and of itself a provocation. That notion apparently had little impact on the jury. A misdemeanor charge against Mr. Rittenhouse for carrying the rifle was dropped by the judge during the trial when it turned out the barrel length of the gun he was carrying made it legal.

The trial had been marked by controversy. Judge Schroeder was criticized for not allowing the persons Mr. Rittenhouse shot to be described as “victims,” noting that this would tend to prejudice the case against the defendant.

Judge Schroeder himself criticized press coverage of the trial, calling it “really quite frightening.” He was upset at personal attacks on himself, and on the lawyers on both sides. An MSNBC producer was arrested for a traffic incident while trailing a bus carrying the jurors, and Mr. Schroeder banned the network from the courtroom.

    #4  RULE #1 IN SELF-DEFENSE:

Actually, most experts will counsel avoidance of a confrontation, which often means retreating from a would-be aggressor.

Which of course is exactly what Kyle Rittenhouse did when he was confronted by two rioters, a giant with a gun and a berserk dwarf-rioter, the latter of whom charged at Kyle and screamed at him while the former discharged at least one shot from his gun.

And the charger was that bipolar, off-his-meds "shoot me now" violent convicted child-rapist who'd just been released from hospital after a failed suicide attempt.

Who hurled at Kyle his bag of meds and other hospital supplies as he screamed obscenities.

Who had earlier that evening directly threatened to kill Kyle and several other normal peaceful citizens if he "found them alone." Kill them by "cut[ting their] f--king hearts out."

And for retreating, Kyle has endured 14 months of a political prosecution, jail time, and the nonstop calumnies of hordes of baboons screeching "White supremacist!" "Racist!" "Vigilante!"

We're going to need a new definition of self-defense, I think. One that includes playing OFFENSE. For once.

Operation on 33 ‘Wagnerians’ was profiled by the CIA
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[KP] In July 2020, the Belarusian authorities showed a video about the detention of 33 Russian citizens.

Let me tell you why the conclusion of the British investigators that the delay in the departure of the Wagnerites from Minsk, which occurred after the meeting with Zelensky on July 24, led to the disruption of the special operation, is complete nonsense. And that is why the publication does not say a word about the participation of the CIA in this whole provocation.

Representatives of the Russian special services told me about this last year, and I have no reason not to trust them. Moreover, after the Bellingcat publication coincided with my facts in the smallest detail. So, it was the CIA curators in Kiev, Timothy James Skovin and Brian Thomas O'Burn, who canceled the option of landing a plane with the Russians in Kiev. Here is my dialogue with people who untangled this tangle:
    Russian counterintelligence in bold
    - At the final stage, at the suggestion of the Americans, an additional, more global, strategic goal appeared - to split the Belarusian-Russian relations. It was for this that the special services of Ukraine brought the group to Minsk and created conditions for its non-departure to Istanbul.

    - The Ukrainian media reported that after the departure of the liner with the Russians on board, it was supposed to land at one of the airfields in Ukraine. Journalistic versions differed - the Ukrainian agent on the plane was supposed to pose as either a sick person who suddenly became ill, or a terrorist.

    - Such options were discussed in the offices of the SBU, but only at the initial stage. Already in the spring of 2020, it was decided to drag a group of conditional "Wagnerites" to Minsk and detain them with the hands of the special services of Belarus. Let me remind you that at the time of crossing the border with Belarus late at night on July 24, tickets for all 33 Russian citizens with an original departure date on the morning of July 25 from Minsk were canceled, which the members of the group did not know.

    - In Ukraine, some are inclined to believe that the operation failed due to treason. Allegedly, at a meeting with Zelensky on July 24, a decision was made to postpone the operation, which ultimately suffered a fiasco ...

    - Perhaps, on July 24, Zelensky had some kind of meeting. Maybe even on this topic. Let me just remind you that the booking for tickets on the Minsk-Istanbul route for all 33 Russians with a departure date on July 25 was canceled from Kiev on July 20! That is, four days before the 24th, the organizers of the action assumed that all Russian citizens would remain in Belarus, and then end up in Ukraine.

    - How do you yourself assess this operation?

    - Operations in intelligence and counterintelligence are not figure skating or rhythmic gymnastics, where the performance of complex elements is assessed. Here, success or failure is judged by the end result. It is necessary, as in hockey, to look at the scoreboard. And today we see on it that Russian citizens are in their homeland. What is this if not a failure of the CIA and their Ukrainian partners?

That is, both the conclusions of the Provisional Investigative Commission of the Verkhovna Rada, and the conclusions of the British coinciding with it, are an attempt to shield the involvement of the CIA, which, in fact, profited the operation. Leaving their Ukrainian partners to take the rap. * Organization recognized as a foreign agent.

#1  My father spoke of limitations of artillery that detonated upon impacting the ground. Enemy in trenches were below the shrapnel. So his unit in WWII used artillery shells with fuses that caused detonation a few feet above ground which decimated Japs in trenches. Battle map messages on the maps he brought back home showed how much forward US rifle companies relied on his unit to decimate enemy units. #2  used artillery shells with fuses that caused detonation a few feet above ground

Was that a common practice by then, Blackbeard Barnsmell6454, or something invented by your father’s artillery unit?

#3  The Americans use proximity fuzes. The American Army went big on artillery preferring to substitute fire power for manpower (although the Marines seem to shift more to the manpower thing).

#4  Was not common until 1943/44 and used only by the US. Was a top secret shell as they did not want such a devastating artillery shell (air burst shell) used against US forces.

Developers included many US companies (RCA, General Electric, Sylvania, Kodak, and many others and the British were also involved.

Products derived from the development of the VT Fuse technology were hearing aids, Energizer type batteries, bread board circuitry, Doppler radar, etc..

It's use caused minor mutinies among German troops who refused to leave bunkers during US atillery barrages. General Patton credited the VT Fuse for winning the Battle of the Bulge.

#5  Procopius2k you are so correct regarding the Army vs the Marines. My father actually mentioned the same thing. He said a lot of good men died in the Marines because they did not rely on artillery as much as the Army in WWII.

#6  He spoke of on one occasion he took out entire entire jap reinforcement formations by himself by sitting on a hill top over looking a valley directing artillery fire. As columns of jap reinforcements moved into the valley below his observation position and were fully exposed, he ordered the artillery to fire for effect which completely wiped out each formation.

The only danger he experienced was from a round hitting between his feet from a vicious dog fight above him between a Jap Zero and a US Mustang.

NIA nets key ISIS conspirator in Quran Circle case
[OneIndia] The National Investigation Agency arrested an operative of the Islamic Sate from Bengaluru Karnataka. The accused Zuhab Hameed was involved in an ISIS conspiracy case, the NIA said.

The probe revealed that Hameed along with the other accused had raised funds, radicalised gullible Moslem youth through Koran Circle group and recruited them and illegally sent them to Syria via The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire...
    to Join ISIS.

Zuhaib Manna had used his contacts to motivate and radicalise many impressionable Moslem youth by showing them videos depicting atrocities on Moslems in Syria.

Earlier the NIA had started the paperwork but haven't done much else against Tauqir, Zuhab and Mohammad Shihab for their affiliation with the ISIS. Earlier the NIA had also arrested two accused persons namely Ahamad Abdul Cadar and Irgan Nasir.

The NIA learnt that Tauqir along with the other accused had raised funds, radicalised and recruited gullible Moslem. They had formed a group called as the Koran Circle and these recruits were sent to Syria to join the ISIS.

Earlier In 2013, Muhammad Tauqir Mahmood along with his associate had also visited Syria illegally to liaise with ISIS leadership and had offered support from Indian Moslems.

Afghans want out: Passport Requests Overwhelm Nangarhar Office, 28,000 applied for US visa
[ToloNews] Officials of the passport department in Nangarhar
The unfortunate Afghan province located adjacent to Mohmand, Kurram, and Khyber Agencies. The capital is Jalalabad. The province was the fief of Younus Khalis after the Soviets departed and one of his sons is the current provincial Taliban commander. Nangarhar is Haqqani country..
said that more than 2,000 people a day apply for passports at their department, and the department is capable of issuing only 200 to 250 passports each day.

Officials said that crowding and chaos have created challenges for the department, and they asked all applicants to follow the procedure in an orderly way.

"We have collected around 2,500 to 3,500 applications, and we cannot accept new applications and documents until finishing and processing these applications," said Nader Wadan, head of the Nangarhar Passport department.

Nangarhar residents urged the department to speed up the process of issuing passports.

"In the past, a bank was near here and when we received our bill for payment we delivered them to the bank and there was no need to go to Kabul Bank which is far from here," said Didar Sapai, a passport applicant.

"We have been coming here for several days, believe me, we are exhausted, there is a lot of problems here," said Zarmina, a passport applicant.

Based on the statistics of the Nangarhar passport department, the office has the capacity to issue 200 to 250 passports per day, while the number of passport applicants in this department ecceeds 2,000 daily.

Over 28,000 Afghans applied for temporary US visa

[KhaamaPress] Federal officials have said that more than 28,000 Afghans have been applied for temporary visas into the US but added that only 100 of them have been approved so far.

The applications have been filed shortly before the Taliban
    ...Arabic for students...
    recaptured Afghanistan on August 15.

US Citizenship and Immigration Services have struggled to keep up with the surge in applicants but they have promised to be increasing the number of staff to expedite the approval process.

On the other hand, Afghan families who have permanently been settled in the US say that they are waiting for their relatives to be settled in the US and are afraid to be targeted by the Taliban.

Each parole applicant- Afghans who will fund families in the US- has so far paid hundreds of dollars that amount to $11.5 million in total that has been paid in the last few months.

Since the humanitarian parole needs in-person interview thus, Afghans must travel abroad to a third country where they must find a US embassy or consulate to visit for their interview.

Flight restrictions in Afghanistan have made it harder for people to travel abroad.

US’s temporary visas do not confer lawful permanent residence or US immigration but is a way for those who want to leave their country urgently.

Abu Ali al-Askari, a senior Kataib Hezbollah official, said on Telegram that "in response to what was published by one of the friendly parties regarding the initiative to disband its military forces," his militia group has decided to dissolve its Saraya al-Difa al-Shaabi (Popular Defense Brigades), ordering it to "stop all its activities and close its headquarters."

group (ISIS) seized controlled swathes of Syrian and Iraqi land in 2014, Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani called for Iraqis to take up arms and defend the country. This paved the way for the formation militia groups under the umbrella of the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF, or Hashd al-Shaabi). The PMF has since been absorbed into the Iraqi security forces, but many of the militias operate outside of the control of the state and some are backed by Iran.

Sadr, whose movement won the most seats in last month’s parliamentary election and is set to lead the next government, on Thursday called on the militias to disband if they want to join his cabinet. Political parties affiliated with the pro-Iran militias did poorly in the election and their supporters have rejected the results and staged protests. Askari responded to Sadr saying that Kataib Hezbollah would give up their weapons only after Sadr’s gang, Saraya al-Salam, and the Kurdish Peshmerga did so.

On Friday, Sadr announced he was shutting down one of his brigades. "As a goodwill gesture from me, I announce the dissolution of the al-Yum al-Wuud [the Promised Day] Brigade, and the closure of their headquarters," he tweeted. He said the group had previously handed over its weapons and that anyone in the brigade who still has a weapon must turn it in within 48 hours.

"I hope this step will be the beginning of the dissolution of gangs as well as the handover of their weapons and closure of their bases," he said.

Askari said that the members of the disbanded Popular Defense Brigades will be embedded within the PMF and maintain their entitlements. He also said he hoped that Sadr would transfer control of his three brigades over to the PMF and "make understandings with the leaders of the Peshmerga to complete its dissolution and be embedded into the Iraqi security forces."

The Peshmerga have not immediately commented on Askari’s statement.

39 Palestinians seeking asylum stranded in Barcelona airport
If Nigerians pretending to be teenage Syrians can board the refugee gravy train, why not third generation Palestinian “refugees” “fleeing” the terrors of Egypt? Or if not granted, at least get half a dozen years of free room and board on the Spanish dime while they try their luck on the suckers in Germany, France, and England?
[IsraelTimes] Spanish authorities processing the group’s requests, after they refused to get back on a flight heading to South America

A group of 39 Paleostinian refugees were waiting in a restricted area of the Barcelona airport for a fifth day Friday after they used a stopover of their South America-bound flight from Cairo to request asylum in Spain, the country’s authorities said.

Police are investigating the charter flight that flew into Barcelona on Monday, a front man with Spain’s Interior Ministry told The News Agency that Dare Not be Named.

The flight from Cairo had the Ecuadorean capital, Quito, as its final destination, with scheduled layovers in Spain’s second-largest city and Bogotá, in Colombia. A spokeswoman with the Spanish government’s delegation in Catalonia said that once they landed at El Prat airport on Monday, the group refused to get back on the aircraft to continue with their scheduled trip.

Since then, they have been taken care of with food and assistance in police facilities at the airport, the spokeswoman said. Press officials in Spain are not usually authorized to be identified by name in media reports.

Authorities are "processing" the group’s asylum request, the official said, adding that in the meantime the group hasn’t been arrested and that they are "free to continue with their trip."

Sophie Muller, the representative in Spain for the United Nations
...a formerly good idea gone bad...
refugee agency, or UNHCR, said that the passengers were carrying refugee documents issued by UNRWA, the UN’s agency that provides essential services to Paleostinian refugees. She also said that many in the group had previously submitted asylum applications in Egypt and Æthiopia.

The front man for the Interior Ministry, which oversees the office for asylum applications in Spain and the customs checkpoints at airports, said the individual applications of the refugees were being examined, a process that can take from days to weeks or even months.

Spain has received nearly 50,000 asylum requests in the first 10 months of 2021, with Venezuela

The Interior Ministry, which has recently tried to clear a backlog of previous applications, said that over 15,000 people have been granted refugee status or other types of protection under international asylum laws this year. More than 41,000 requests were rejected.

#1  "refugees" are temporary. Once a person is determined to be a refugee, their status must mean they are never ever granted citizenship even if they marry a local, even if they have a kid - they and their offspring are NEVER to be deemed citizens or even permanent residents. They must never be granted the right to live and work in the host country. They must be kept in a camp as dependents and their case reviewed each year. As soon as there is no life-threatening violent situation or believable and imminent threat of persecution in their home country, back they go

Kyle Rittenhouse's not guilty verdict is a symptom of a bigger sickness
[MSNBC] Rittenhouse, a teenager who fatally shot two men and injured another at an antiracist protest last year in Kenosha, Wisconsin, was acquitted on all charges on Friday afternoon. He had been charged with homicide, attempted homicide and recklessly endangering safety, and could've faced a life sentence if convicted.

For many the verdict is an outrage and a brazen miscarriage of justice. Rittenhouse is a Blue Lives Matter enthusiast who went to protests against a police shooting with a military-style rifle that he obtained illegally, falsely told people he was a medic, and ended up killing and hurting people who felt threatened by him. The overwhelmingly white jury appears to have given Rittenhouse the benefit of the doubt, after a trial in which the judge at times appeared to show favorable treatment of the defendant, and in a country in which it’s almost impossible to imagine a Black defendant accused of similar crimes receiving such easy treatment.

In other words, the Rittenhouse verdict easily reads like a referendum on the nation’s ongoing clashes over the state of racism in American life: not just an expression of mercy toward Rittenhouse, but white vigilantism.

The whole situation would never have emerged anywhere but in a deeply ill society.

But I think that’s probably not the best way to look at it. Instead, this case was both smaller and bigger: It was decided based on a narrow question of self-defense under a permissive law, not Rittenhouse’s ideological predilections. At the same time, Rittenhouse’s series of encounters was only possible in a society with truly harrowing social maladies, including a pathological obsession with guns and a rising culture of right-wing militias. Did Rittenhouse set out to shoot people that night? That question is unanswerable. But the whole situation would never have emerged anywhere but in a deeply ill society.

Here are three takeaways from this trial — and the national conversation surrounding it.

Worse, MSNBC racialises this story for exactly zero reason.
