#3  On the plus side, the Russians leaving takes away the dagger that was pointed at Odessa's heart. On the down side, the Ukrainians can't re-occupy it either as it is well in range of Russian surface to surface missiles and air strikes.

#5  On the down side, the Ukrainians can't re-occupy it either as it is well in range of Russian surface to surface missiles and air strikes.

1. It's 150 miles from the airfield in Crimea and the Russians couldn't hold it.

2. I wanna get a Goodwill Dispenser like that.

#6  It's 150 miles from the airfield in Crimea and the Russians couldn't hold it.

Holding and denying it to the enemy are two different things. Once 155 land artillery got into range it made holding it untenable for the Russians. While the Russian jets and ships haven't so far showed they can take out the land artillery on a very large area near Snake Island, the island is very much in their stable of skills and weapon packages.

The Ukrainians set anything on that island and it will be blasted to hell.

#7  Darth: The Russians are free to divert stuff from what they feel are less important campaigns, like the one 90% of their forces are involved in for capturing Lisichansk, so they can get on with the Odessa invasion they keep threatening but not doing for the past four months.
Posted by: Thing From Snowy Mountain || 07/01/2022 15:15 Comments || Top||

#8  The Odessa was a long stretch and with the loss of the island is all but a pipe dream at this point. With new Harpoon missiles an invasion is doomed to fail as the Russians just don't have the lift capacity to sustain any invasion, let alone do one at all.

Putin Should Be Very Worried About Ukraine's New Kamikaze Drone
[Daily Beast] The war in Ukraine is no stranger to drones, but the kamikaze drone strike on the Russian city of Rostov last week marked the beginning of a whole chapter in drone warfare. A small ramshackle Ukrainian drone with a tiny warhead flew across the heavily defended front line and smashed into an oil refinery in Russia on June 22, causing a large fire. Given how cheap it is to make a drone, and its successful evasion of Russian air defenses, Russian officials might soon have to worry about defending oil facilities, supply depots, and military installations deep in Russian territory.

Long-range kamikaze drones are a new threat to Russia. Most observers of the conflict in Ukraine are familiar with the Switchblade drones provided by the U.S., but these have a relatively short range and require operators to direct it onto a target. Kamikaze drones like the one used in the Rostov attack can go hundreds of miles without the need for an operator, and are small enough to slip by much of Russia’s air defense, which is designed to detect and engage fighter jets and missiles. With the use of GPS and inertial guidance systems, a Ukrainian operator would simply need to give the drone a point on the map before sending it on its way.

For Russia, the biggest concern is that Ukraine can make these cheaply and easily. Press reports claim the drone used in the Rostov attack was produced by Ukraine or a was model available on the internet for less than $10,000. Airframes, engines, and guidance systems could all be bought commercially and assembled without too much technical expertise. The payloads are likely small and the drone can’t re-adjust if the coordinates are wrong, but it costs a fraction of its American and Turkish-made counterparts and can do millions of dollars in damage if it hits a fuel tank or sets fire to a docked naval vessel. Depending on the final unit cost, Ukrainian drones could conceivably be cheaper than the missiles Russia would use to shoot them down.

The rest of Dale’s article is interesting. My takeaway is that while Russia could have jammed the Israeli electronics in that exercise, they mist likely did not because they only jam over their own sites, not even when the Israelis attack Iranian sites.

#3  This has been discussed in varying tones of alarm since the 1980s. Some thoughts:

How is savings defined? Does it include home equity — around 65% of Americans own instead of rent

There is a worker shortage. How many retirement age Americans will choose to continue or return to work when they realize they need the income or find themselves bored, perhaps working part time instead of full time or in job less physically/mentally demanding than before?

Means testing, etc: again, discussed since at least the 1980s. I’ve long assumed there would be nothing for people like me, to ensure there will be more for those who really need it.

#5  ...I'll be able to take SS in Feb '27, but I still haven't decided yet if I'll try to keep working till 70, or just take a few months off and then get something just a few hours a week.

My concern right now is that IIRC, by law SS (and active duty/retired military pay) are keyed to inflation because, hey, we were never going to have inflation again. If you see Congress try and weasel their way out of that, then you'll know for sure they have no intention of fixing SS until it's probably way too late.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Yair Lapid takes over as Israel’s 14th prime minister
[IsraelTimes] Yair Lapid officially became prime minister at the stroke of midnight between Thursday and Friday, taking office as the 14th premier in Israel’s history.

Lapid’s term leading the country could be a fairly short one, as he takes over a caretaker government ahead of national elections on November 1. But the new prime minister appeared ready to make the most of a potentially brief tenure.

"We’ll do the best we can for a Jewish, democratic state, good and strong and thriving, because that is the job, and it’s bigger than all of us," Lapid said at a handover ceremony with outgoing prime minister Naftali Bennett on Thursday afternoon.

On Sunday, Lapid is expected to convene the first weekly cabinet meeting of his premiership. Bennett — who announced on Wednesday that he will not run in the next election
...it’s important to recognize one’s limitations, and where one needs further growth. Common brilliance is not enough without experience...
— is set to remain in the government as alternate prime minister. He will also continue to hold responsibility for the country’s Iran
...They hate Jews Zionists Jews. Their economy is based on the production of oil and vitriol...
policy.

On Thursday, Lapid announced the full slate of his staff as he gears up to hit the ground running. His prime ministerial office will be headed up by a woman for the first time in Israeli history.

Naama Schultz, a longtime aide to the Yesh Atid leader, will become director-general of the Prime Minister’s Office once Lapid takes over. Schultz served as the head of Lapid’s office when he was alternate prime minister, as well as an adviser when he was finance minister.

Lapid is bringing in a series of other loyalists, including longtime adviser Yair Zivan as his diplomatic adviser, and one of his longest associates, Dani Vesely, as his chief of staff.

But in a nod to continuity, Lapid is keeping on staff four key positions from the Bennett premiership: Shalom Shlomo as cabinet secretary, Avi Gil as military secretary, Eyal Hulata as national security adviser, and Keren Haijoff as his international spokesperson.

Only entering politics a decade ago, the centrist former TV anchor will be the first non-right-wing prime minister since Ehud Barak left office in 2001, and one of the few without significant military experience.

Pentagon FAILS yet another hypersonic weapons test after an 'anomaly' occurred during flight that was supposed to reach speeds of Mach 5: Russia and China both have successful hypersonic programs
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news]
  • Pentagon says a problem occurred following missile ignition

  • China, Russia and North Korea are all pressing ahead with hypersonic programs

  • Trial marked the second unsuccessful test flight of the prototype weapon

  • A booster failure occurred in its first flight test in October, which prevented the missile from leaving the launch pad

  • Hypersonic weapons are capable of flight at speeds five times the speed of sound, and can maneuver mid-flight, which makes tracking them difficult

#4  The Russian one is a ballistic missile on its side and the Chinese one is just a glider with minimal control once it is boosted by a ballistic missile. The US is actually trying to build a scramjet missile that can be launched from a fighter/ship and can be controlled during its flight. Much more complex and hard than what the other two nations have done.
Posted by: DarthVader || 07/01/2022 9:31 Comments || Top||

#5  The glide phase weapons and the scramjets are basically two entirely different classes of weapons. The problem we are having is part of the design requirement for the glide phase boosters is to make them distinguishable from an ICBM. If we just wanted to put a glide phase weapon on a booster, a Trident could do it easily.

Udaipur Horror: Punishing the killers is easy, not quite the enablers
[OneIndia] Kanhaiya Lal had been pleading with the authorities and also repeatedly flagged the threat to his life for over 15 days before he was killed in the most horrific manner

The two monsters in human form who brutally beheaded an innocent Hindu citizen, Kanhaiya Lal, in Udaipur are under arrest and will face the law now. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) is also on the job trying to investigate whether this was part of a larger conspiracy. That one of the killers had spent a month and a half in Pakistain recently has been stated by the Rajasthan home minister himself. There are also reports of the killers being motivated by a Barelvi bad boy group Dawat-e-Islami. No doubt these facts will come out as the investigation progresses.

Far more disturbing are the countless media reports showing, in a chronological manner, the unpardonable lapses of the local police. It is now public knowledge that Kanhaiya Lal's murder was no surprise. He had been pleading with the authorities and repeatedly flagging the threat to his life for well over a fortnight. Hence, the police needs to share the blame too and no amount of cover fire by spokespersons of the Congress can change this fact.

Udaipur murder: The Dawat-e-Islami has been linked to multiple incidents of stabbing incidents
[OneIndia] The Dawat-e-Islami calls itself a peaceful organization. However there have been several incidents in the past when its followers have been involved in incidents of stabbing

The Rajasthan police on Wednesday said that the Ghouse Mohammad one of the two killers of the Hindu tailor in Udaipur had gone to Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...
, Pakistain in 2014. The police also accused him of having links with the Data-e-Islami.

The June 29 encounter was special: It was terrorist number 500 to fall in J&K
[OneIndia] The security forces are not just busy with counter terror operations on the ground, but are also not leaving any stone unturned to ensure that the Amarnath Yatra passes off peacefully

On Wednesday two bad boyz were potted in an encounter at the Newport, Mir Bazar area of Kulgam in Jammu and Kashmir
...a disputed territory lying between India and Pakistain. After partition, the Paks grabbed half of it and call it Azad (Free) Kashmir. The remainder they refer to as "Indian Occupied Kashmir". They have fought four wars with India over it, the score currently 4-0 in New Delhi's favor. After 72 years of this nonsense, India cut the Gordian knot in 2019, removing the area's special status, breaking off Ladakh as a separate state, and allowing people from other areas to settle (or in the case of the Pandits, to resettle) there....
. It was special for the Armed Forces for a reason. The terrorist who was killed was number 500 in the past two and half years.

5 Dead in 2nd Fatal Human Smuggling Crash in 24 Hours near Border in Texas

Texas Department of Public Safety officials report that four migrants died and two others are in critical condition when a Jeep driven by a suspected human smuggler crashed into a tractor-trailer while fleeing from law enforcement. Officials report the driver is in critical condition (brain dead).

Texas DPS Lt. Chris Olivarez told Breitbart Texas that a Border Patrol agent attempted to stop a suspected human smuggler near Encinal, Texas, on Thursday morning. The driver failed to yield leading to a law enforcement pursuit.

Olivarez said the pursuit ended when the driver of the white Jeep crashed into the rear of a tractor-trailer. It is not known at this time if Border Patrol continued the pursuit or if another agency took over prior to the crash. Breitbart Texas reached out to Laredo Sector Border Patrol officials for additional information. The agency confirmed Border Patrol agents engaged in the traffic stop. The CBP Office of Professional Investigations is investigating the incident.

The results of the devastating crash left four of the passengers dead. Two others and the driver were taken to an area hospital in critical condition.

“The driver is not expected to survive his injuries,” Lt. Ovivarez told Breitbart. “He experienced severe head trauma including exposed brain matter.” Olivarez said a helicopter air ambulance transported the driver to a hospital.

Police found documents in the vehicle identifying one of the migrants as a Venezuelan national. The identities of the others have yet to be established.

This is the second deadly crash in 24 hours involving human smugglers attempting to avoid arrest. On Wednesday afternoon, the driver of a green Ford Expedition lost control and rolled the vehicle after fleeing from La Joya police officers, Breitbart Texas reported. The crash led to the death of two of the migrant passengers. Two other occupants of the vehicle are in the hospital in critical condition.

All four of the occupants of the Expedition were foreign nationals illegally present in the United States, Olivarez stated.

On Monday evening, a worker found an abandoned tractor-trailer in San Antonio after migrants locked inside yelled for help. Investigators found more than 60 people inside the trailer. Reports indicate 46 of the migrants died at the scene and seven others succumbed to the damage from the heat and lack of water. Four people are facing charges in connection to what is now considered the nation’s largest death toll from a single smuggling incident.

Now deceased Sgt. of Arms at the Senate admitted, all of the 'agitation was done by paid agitators'
[Newsweek] The Senate's Sergeant at Arms during the Capitol riot, Michael Stenger, died on Monday, one day before the Committee investigating the attack is set to reveal new evidence in a surprise hearing on Tuesday.

Stenger's death was reported by Fox News' Chad Pergram on Monday, but the cause of his sudden passing at the age of 71 has not been disclosed.

Stenger was the man in charge of defending the Capitol when this was attacked by an angry mob of Donald Trump's supporters attempting to stop the peaceful transfer of power to elected President Joe Biden on January 6, 2021. On that fateful day, the Senate Sergeant at Arms reportedly refused to request the assistance of the National Guard.

Only one day after the deadly riot, Stenger resigned from the post he had taken on in April 2018 amid harsh criticism against his lack of proper reaction at the attack on the Capitol. Two others top Capitol security officials, including Irving and Sund, also resign on that same day.

'Cryptoqueen' added to FBI's most wanted list
[Washington Examiner] The FBI added the "Cryptoqueen" to its Ten Most Wanted Fugitives list for allegedly leading a scheme to defraud millions of people in a fake cryptocurrency scheme.

Bulgarian Ruja Ignatova co-founded OneCoin, a fake cryptocurrency company, in 2014 and has defrauded investors out of over $4 billion, according to the FBI. Authorities are offering a $100,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of Ignatova.

OneCoin was promoted as a cryptocurrency to rival the popular Bitcoin but was used by Ignatova to take advantage of people seeking to invest in the cryptocurrency craze, according to the FBI.

FBI Special Agent Ronald Shimko is working on the case in the bureau's New York field office. He explained the way Ignatova allegedly scammed investors with her scheme in a statement.

Update from Deutsche Welle at 1:45 p.m. ET: Ms Ignatova is a German citizen.
Ignatova, who was born in Bulgaria, has been on the run for five years, when it was discovered she had bugged the apartment belonging to her US boyfriend and realized he was cooperating with the FBI. She boarded a plane from Bulgaria to Greece and has not been seen since.

Ignatova's accomplice, former corporate lawyer Mark Scott, was recently found guilty of conspiracy to commit bank fraud and conspiracy to commit money laundering by a New York City federal court.

Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is officially inaugurated as the Philippine leader
[BenarNews] Ferdinand Marcos Jr. praised his dictator father as he was inaugurated Thursday as the 17th president of the Philippines, in a remarkable political comeback that has largely rehabilitated one of Asia’s most notorious political dynasties.

Wearing traditional Filipino garb and surrounded by his family, the son and namesake of the late Filipino dictator took his oath before Chief Justice Alexander Gesmundo in a ceremony held at Manila’s National Museum amid a highly charged atmosphere between his supporters and critics.

Marcos Jr., known among supporters as "Bongbong," also extended the olive branch to his political foes during his speech at the event, witnessed by three former Filipino presidents and foreign dignitaries including Douglas Emhoff, the second gentleman of the United States.

Science & Technology
After Over 1000 Rounds, Here's What We Think of The Sig Sauer P322
[Field & Stream] Just a week prior to the beginning of our 2022 handgun test, Sig Sauer introduced their P322. With Sig Sauer’s fan base, and with the popularity of their P365 and P320 pistols, the P322 was instantly in demand. We managed to pull some strings and get one to include in our test and we’re glad we did. Though the Taurus TX22 Competition SCR edged out the P322 by just over a single point for the Editor’s pick, we felt the Sig Sauer P322 was the most fun to shoot. I liked it better than the Taurus but we were committed to sticking to our scores. Here’s a more in-depth look at the latest rimfire from Sig Sauer.

Like with any handgun, there’s some good and bad news. In the case of the P322, there’s very little bad news so let’s get it out of the way. Problem number one is that, except for some inexpensive generic holsters, Sig Sauer and Comp-Tac are the only companies currently offering holsters to fit the P322. Both are polymer, and the SIG holster retails for $29.99 and the Comp-Tac for $69.99. As popular as I expect this pistol will become, that will likely soon change.

Government Corruption
NH Gov. Sununu signs pair of bills related to vaccine mandates, vetoes ivermectin legislation
[New Hampshire Bulletin] Gov. Chris Sununu handed anti-mandate and pro-ivermectin advocates a mixed bag Friday.

He signed House Bill 1604, requiring state-run hospitals and county nursing homes to grant medical and religious exemption requests to their vaccine mandates, eliminating their ability to evaluate each request for merit.

He also signed House Bill 1495, which prohibits the state from requiring businesses to adopt vaccine mandates, something that has not been proposed.

However, Sununu vetoed House Bill 1022, dashing the hopes of those who believe ivermectin treats COVID-19 and should be made readily available.

The bill, which passed the Legislature along party lines, would have allowed pharmacists to dispense the drug under a standing order without prescription, just as they can with medication for smoking cessation; naloxone, to reverse an opioid overdose; and contraception, including emergency contraception.

In his veto message, Sununu said those medications went through rigorous reviews and vetting prior to being available by standing order. Ivermectin should be subject to the same process, he wrote.

#5  #4 ...are getting illegal fetal stem cell infusions and infant blood transfusions.

Wait — what?!!

It's the latest 'snake oil' fad going around the super rich.

Infant blood transfusions: This is supposedly a way to extend ones lifespan, the only problem is that even if it 'worked', it's gone in three months as part of the body normal blood cell recycling. I suspect most of the "infant blood" are sold by the abortion clinics for this purpose.

Fetal stem cell infusions: This is supposedly a way to repair ones body organ damage. etc. to extend ones life span. Again, popular among the super rich. guess who sells the "infant stem cells", that's right, the abortion clinics.. This doesn't work mainly because of DNA incompatibilities.

There's suckers born every minute and a crap load of money to be made here!

Russia’s ROSATOM permitted to start construction on Egypt’s first nuclear power plant
Inshallah mentality makes the — to us — twin concepts of completion and starting production another beast entirely. So let us watch with interest but without expectations.
[AlAhram] The Egyptian Nuclear and Radiological Regulatory Authority (ENRRA) issued a permit to Russia’s State Atomic Energy Corporation (ROSATOM) for the construction of the El-Dabaa NPP Unit 1, according to an announcement by the corporation Thursday.

This permit, along with excavation works at site, is necessary for the start of the main stage of construction, ROSATOM said.

In November 2015, the Egyptian government signed an agreement with Russia to build Egypt’s first nuclear power plant in El-Dabaa region of Marsa Matrouh, which aims to generate a total of 4,800 megawatts through four reactors.

"Obtaining construction permit for the Unit 1 is a momentous occasion paving the way for the launch of full-scale construction of the first NPP in Egypt," Alexey Likhachev, ROSATOM director general stated on Thursday.

Earlier in June, ROSATOM announced that it started the manufacture in Saint Petersburg of electrical components for the plant’s reactor vessel, according to Sputnik news agency.

Earlier in 2022, CEO of ROSATOM Alexey Likhachev stated that construction of El-Dabaa is set to begin in July.

According to the project’s design, the nuclear plant will have four VVER-1,200 reactor units, with the first unit scheduled to be operational in 2026.

In November 2021, Egypt signed a long-term one million-dollar agreement with the Czech ÚJV Rež Research and Development company to consult on El-Dabaa Nuclear Plant, according to ENRRA Chairperson Sami Shaaban.

According to the contract, ÚJV Rež will provide technical assistance to the ENRRA in licensing the nuclear plant.

Israel and its supporters hailed the decision as a major victory against the anti-Israel Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement.

Caucasus/Russia/Central Asia
Why it was necessary to change our fighters for captured Azov fighters
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
By Dmitry Steshin

[KP] Our fighters, who were traded for "Azov", told about what they experienced in captivity.

The exchange of prisoners, among whom were 43 Nazis from Azovstal, caused misunderstanding in the information space. The community of infallible "couch experts" even accused the organizers of this exchange of all sins.

People who have been fighting in the Donbas for the eighth year, oddly enough, had a completely opposite opinion: "ours must be pulled out at any cost."

In the Donbass, they are well aware that in Ukrainian captivity, our fighters are tortured. Eight years ago, during the first exchange, in the fall of 2014, the released militias were immediately loaded into the ambulances. Many could not walk, some of the militias had their arms and legs broken not during the fighting, but in captivity…

Nothing has changed over the years. All the prisoner exchanges that took place looked the same: our guys, beaten, mentally broken, with festering wounds and somehow bandaged with dirty bandages, barely walked to their own through the neutral zone.

Cheerful “zahistniks” (defenders in Ukrainian - Ed.) walked towards them and dragged trunks with things behind them ... But, the descendants of Bandera never limited themselves to physical violence. Cases are well known in the Donbass when our fighters, exchanged from captivity, committed suicide a few months later, unable to withstand the mental breakdown ...

This exchange is no exception. In the video, the fighters tell how they were beaten in Ukrainian captivity, tortured with electric current, dragged through prisons - from Poltava to Nikolaev and Kyiv. According to the serviceman Sergei Tolstoy, who was taken prisoner in early spring, he was tortured with the help of a field telephone, connecting wires to his fingers:

"- On average, this torture lasted four hours. Beat and just like that. And they shot me in the leg. The bullet went through one thigh and entered the second, and did not come out, it sits there ... They sawed off my fingers, well, they grew together ..."

You listen to such stories and ask yourself a tricky question - was it necessary to pull Sergei Tolstoy out of captivity or, after all, leave him there, for the sake of some principles? For a young guy to still be tortured to death? We somehow quickly forgot the main reason for the special operation: “We don’t leave our own!”. It's good that people who make decisions have a strong memory ...

08:30 Russians fired at the Krasnopol community in the Sumy region yesterday afternoon, as a result of which one person was killed, three more were injured, said the head of the OVA Dmitry Zhivitsky. Velikopisarevskaya community also came under fire, a civilian building was damaged, there were no casualties.

08:28 The Armed Forces of Ukraine will be able to push the enemy back to positions as of February 23 by the end of the year, but on the condition that Western partners continue to supply Ukraine with the necessary weapons and a large amount of ammunition, former US Army Commander Ben Hodges believes. So far, Ukraine has received only 10% of the HIMARS rocket systems of the amount needed for a powerful counteroffensive, but more deliveries are expected in the near future.

08:22 On the morning of June 30, the Russians fired at the Zelenodolsk community of the Dnipropetrovsk region several times from different weapons, the head of the OVA, Valentin Reznichenko, said. In Zelenodolsk, a warehouse with 40 tons of grain was destroyed, a fire broke out due to the explosion.

At the same time, he noted that the training of the military to manage these self-propelled guns has been completed, it is not advisable to train new teams.

05:17 The American Institute for the Study of War (ISW) reports that the Russians continue to conduct offensive operations north of Kharkov - this indicates that the Kremlin has ambitions not only in relation to the Donetsk and Luhansk regions. Analysts note that these ambitions of Moscow will continue to take manpower and equipment, potentially at the cost of offensive power in more important areas of advance.

Also, Russian troops continued offensive operations against Slavyansk and Lisichansk, achieved minor successes east of Bakhmut.

04:36 AFU hit another enemy anti-aircraft-cannon-missile complex Pantsir C1 on Zmeiny, OK Pivden reported. The command also said that in the Kherson region, enemy Mi-8s tried to dislodge Ukrainian units from the newly recaptured settlements with twin helicopter raids. The Armed Forces of Ukraine repelled a group raid of helicopters on the north of the Kherson region with a portable air defense system. The enemy, evading, retreated, added to OK.

Supreme Court Gives Biden Administration a (Temporary?) Win on Immigration with Final Decision of Term
[VolohConspiracy] Chief Justice Roberts final opinion of the term rejects the statutory challenge to the Biden Administration's rescission of the "Remain in Mexico" policy.

This morning Chief Justice Roberts delivered a gift to the BIden Administration with the final opinion in an argued case this Supreme Court
...the political football known as The Highest Court in the Land, home of penumbrae and emanations...
term in Biden v. Texas. In a 5-4 decision, the Court concluded it had jurisdiction to hear the case and rejected a statutory challenge to the Biden Administration's rescission of the Trump Administration's Migrant Protection Protocol, aka the "Remain in Mexico" policy. The case is now remanded back to the lower courts for additional proceedings, including other challenges to the policy change.

Chief Justice Roberts wrote for a 5-4 Court, joined by the Court's liberals and Justice Kavanaugh, who also wrote a concurrence. Justice Alito wrote a dissent joined by Justices Thomas and Gorsuch. Justice Barrett also wrote a dissent joined by the Justices Thomas, Alito, and Gorsuch, save for the first sentence of her opinion ("I agree with the Court's analysis of the merits—but not with its decision to reach them.").

Note this indicates the Biden Administration's victory may be short-lived, as Texas and others may still pursue their APA challenges to the policy, including arguments that the Administration failed to provide an adequate explanation for the policy decision. Justice Kavanaugh stresses the point in his concurrence. So the Biden Administration is not out of the woods yet. Expect Texas, et al., to really hone their State Farm arguments on remand.

Caucasus/Russia/Central Asia
From the Russian Perspective: Operation on Denazification of Ukraine: operational summary June 30th (updated)
Direct Translation via Google Translate Edited.
Kindly note that several entries in this article were removed because they included discussions of the grand strategic level.

[NewsFrontInfo] 23:14 The authorities of the Ukrainian city of Lviv have renamed 29 streets whose names are associated with Russia, said the mayor of the city Andriy Sadovoy.

22:03 France will transfer six more Caesar self-propelled guns to Ukraine. This was stated by French President Macron at the NATO summit.

22:00 One of the largest federal state-owned banks in Russia, PSB, has started working in the Zaporozhye region.

19:55 In the center of Kherson, near the territory of the military unit, next to the TV tower, an explosion occurred. An explosive device went off.

No casualties have been reported.

17:25 Meanwhile, Kyiv announced the establishment of "direct physical control" over Serpentine. According to Alexei Gromov, deputy chief of the Main Operations Directorate of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, a landing operation will be carried out in the near future.

14:31 In Lviv, they decided to ban the activities of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. The corresponding decision was made by the Lviv City Council. This was announced by the deputy of the City Council from the "European Solidarity" Yuriy Lomaga, who came up with this initiative. In the decision, the UOC was accused of threatening the national security of Ukraine, and its activities allegedly do not contribute to the consolidation of Ukrainian society.

13:20 On Zmeiny Island: Khokhols won't occupy it either. This is now a gray area. The military of the Russian Federation will return to the island when the time comes for the storming of Odessa.

13:17 In Romania, 15 Ukrainian wagons carrying grain went off the rails. There were 32 wagons in total.

11:53 The Russian military left Zmeiny Island as a "goodwill step."

11:52 152mm divisional self-propelled howitzers "Msta-S" of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation are in operation in zone conducting SVO.

09:13 The Ministry of Defense showed personnel work of the heavy flamethrower system "Solntsepyok". Attacks are made against fortified areas and enemy positions. Real-time UAV calculations provide control and adjustment of the system according to targets. It is impossible to hide from the Sunshine salvo even in trenches and dugouts.

08:08 The situation on Zmeiny Island as of June 29, 2022:

Judging by satellite images, as a result of several Ukrainian shelling of Russian positions on Zmeiny Island, unfortunately, one Pantsir-S1 air defense missile system was irretrievably lost, and the rest of the vehicles were forced to constantly change their positions in order not to get hit.

In addition, five raid boats of the BL-820 project (RHIB) moored to the island. The loss of just one air defense missile system under constant shelling may indicate that the island’s garrison has so far successfully repelled raids on its positions, however, it is not known how long this can continue in the face of increasing fire impact of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

08:06 There was no terrorist attack in Kremenchug - Putin.

Smith Enterprise M21A5
[Armory Life] If you have not heard of Smith Enterprise, Inc., it is one of the most respected names in the M14/M1A world. In addition to providing civilian customers with a wide range of popular products for the platform, the company has also played an important role in both developing and providing weapon systems for use by our troops.

As a little background, the Smith family has been in the weapons business all the way back to 1910. And today, its extensive knowledge and success at pushing the M14 design to its seeming limits (and beyond), Smith Enterprise was one of the few companies chosen by the U.S. Military to help breathe new life into the M14 platform.

A NOTABLE NEED: THE M21A5 SOLUTION
In the early 2000s, the U.S. Army needed a powerful rifle that could engage at distances past what the current M16 rifles and carbines could achieve. The U.S. Army had thousands of 7.62 NATO M14 rifles in the armory that were in poor shape, but were still a very viable option for use.

Smith Enterprise’s founder, Ron Smith, was one of the men brought in to get these rifles back in fighting shape and updated for use by the 2nd Infantry Division, 10th Mountain Division, 25th Infantry Division, 503rd Parachute Infantry Regiment and more. These rebuilt M14 rifles needed to be capable of 1 MOA accuracy, and they would be going into the hands of designated marksmen. The rifle that was delivered to these units was the now fabled M21A5 "Crazy Horse" rifle developed by Smith Enterprise.

#1  'Assault rifles' implies just that - a weapon used in close assault in cities, close terrain, heavy cluttered environment with engagements usually within 200 meters. If you are engaging targets beyond that something else is called for. One that can reach out and touch someone.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Syria seizes record 2.3 tons of captagon
[AnNahar] Syrian counter-narcotics units seized a record haul of 2.3 tons of the amphetamine-type stimulant known as captagon, the interior ministry announced Wednesday.

Law enforcement officers had earlier discovered 249 kilos of captagon hidden in steel machinery inside containers ready to leave the Mediterranean port of Latakia.

The ensuing investigation alerted the authorities "to the existence of a warehouse containing drugs on a farm" in the nearby province of Hama, a ministry statement said.

"The weight of the confiscated bags amounted to 2,103 kilos," the statement said, adding that 10 arrests were made and several vehicles confiscated.

With a kilo of captagon estimated to amount to around 6,000 pills, the cumulated number of pills seized tops 14 million, the largest recorded haul by the Syrian government in years.

Several recent reports have accused senior members of Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad

Blame Russia, Russia and Russia again
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.

Commentary by Russian military journalist Boris Rozhin

[ColonelCassad] About Biden's statements following the NATO summit.

1. Only Russia is to blame for all the economic troubles of the United States.

The Biden administration continues to stand its ground despite growing criticism of such a position within the United States and falling ratings ahead of the midterm elections. They cannot deviate from this line, as this will mean admitting that the administration in the economic field has completely failed, so they will hammer on the topic "Putin is to blame for inflation and rising prices for food, gasoline and gas", just like they hammered the topic earlier "Putin hacked the US election, and Trump is a Kremlin agent." At the same time, no improvements are expected - US residents, according to Biden, "should pay the price as much as necessary."

Let's look at the fruits of this information line in autumn.

2. The US and its satellites will continue to supply weapons to Ukraine.
This is, frankly, not news. Old supplies are gradually being ground down, so new supplies are needed. Their range will obviously expand - they will strive to focus on artillery, MLRS and air defense systems of short and medium range.

All this is an unnecessary reminder that in Ukraine we are at war with the US and NATO, if someone thought it was a "war with Ukraine." Ukraine is just an instrument of American policy here. They expect to use the same tool in the upcoming war for Taiwan, where the puppet government is defiantly heading for a military clash with the PRC.

3. Deliveries of F-16s to Turkey.

Here, the Biden administration actually made a serious concession to Erdogan in order to put pressure on Russia, removing one of the key demands on Erdogan - to abandon the use of the S-400 under the threat of cutting off arms supplies from the United States. This is again a demonstration of the weakening of US influence, when a formal overlord is forced to make concessions to his vassals in order to achieve what he wants. The times of directive control of the world are long gone.

PS. Regarding Erdogan, he skimmed a lot of cream off this issue.

Erdogan announced the price of his consent to the admission of Sweden and Finland to NATO. In addition to the written commitments of Sweden and Finland, which are recorded in a joint declaration and related to the cessation of support from Sweden and Finland to the Gülen organization and Kurdish organizations, Sweden and Finland must extradite more than 70 Kurds associated with the PKK to Turkey.

In addition, Biden said today that the United States should supply Turkey with F-16s, as Turkey demanded (the United States had previously refused these deliveries under the pretext that until Turkey abandoned the S-400, it would not receive aircraft from the United States). For complete happiness, the extradition of Gülen and the withdrawal of American troops from Rojava are still not enough.

Also, Sweden and Finland are warned that if they do not fulfill their obligations, the Turkish parliament will not support the approval of the admission of these countries to NATO.

In general, "Drug Rejep" was able to twist the hands of the US and NATO and is now trying to fix its winnings. No joke - from the point of view of Turkey, an excellent combination. But the Turks, of course, suspect that they can be thrown.

To better understand the dilemma of the Europeans. In order to get Turkey's consent, they need to extradite 73 people to Turkey who were under political protection on the territory of a European country and were not considered terrorists. On the contrary, Turkey's claims to extradite them were rejected in every possible way.

Now, for the sake of political necessity, they need to extradite these people (in Turkey, at best, a prison and long sentences await them on charges of terrorism). Erdogan offers such a choice to those who like to chat about that. that they "will never exchange democratic principles for political necessity." For Sweden and Finland, this is a complete Faustian deal.

The price of joining NATO is the extradition of 73 people for reprisal.

We'll watch with interest how the European Democrats will try to seep "between the raindrops" on this issue.

#3  I've been watching a "Nollywood" historical film set in the Medieval Islamic kingdom of Zazzau called Amina. I'm kind of into it: violent, sordid, with a kind of budget Game of Thrones feel to it. Slavery is depicted as not only normal, but the basis of the kingdom's economy - and the source of the protagonists' wealth. There are absolutely no white people in the movie.

It's not exactly made for the delicate sensibilities of a Western audience. To put it mildly.

#4  Oh look, literally dehumanizing Africans. How unusual.

I've met a ton of Africans and most are fine, upstanding Christians who go to church, practice charity and actually try to live their lives according to the Ten Commandments.

But hey, Neanderthals, right?

#6  How many Muslim Africans have you met, Albemarle Snerert7268? How many animists? How many Communist atheists? Did you meet your upstanding Christians in situ, or had they emigrated to your part of the world, wherever outside of Africa that might be? What do they say about their fellow Africans who are not Christian?

For information: according to the CIA World Factbook, Nigerian society breaks down ethnically as follows:

Hausa 30%, Yoruba 15.5%, Igbo (Ibo) 15.2%, Fulani 6%, Tiv 2.4%, Kanuri/Beriberi 2.4%, Ibibio 1.8%, Ijaw/Izon 1.8%, other 24.7% (2018 est.)

And religiously:

Muslim 53.5%, Roman Catholic 10.6%, other Christian 35.3%, other .6% (2018 est.)

The native Jews of Nigeria are part of that 0.6%, but unless you spent time among the Igbo, also known as Biafrans, or certain other communities, you’ll not have met any of them to bear witness that they’re also fine, upstanding citizens— they are content keeping to themselves.

Separately, you’ll want to note that Sahara Reporters is a Nigerian effort — Nigerian expats tweeting reports from somewhere safer than the Ould Sod, I believe. But do go on accusing them of racistically dehumanising their fellow Nigerians.

#7  /\ What you have experienced Ab, and what many of us in the South and elsewhere have also experienced is cultural assimilation. The assimilation of diverse cultures and peoples is what this country is all about.

The changing of family names, street names, schools, and military installations is simply the casting off of colonial roots, history, and unity found in cultural assimilation.

When people like Ben Carson, Clarence Thomas, Susan Rice, Sean Combs, or George Foreman adopt Igbo names, call me. I will relook the issue.

Until then, the adoption of tribal names will represent a tool of separation and division, not unity.

Indian police arrest two suspects for beheading Hindu man over support for anti-Islam remarks
[Dawn] Indian police arrested two men on Tuesday after they allegedly beheaded a Hindu tailor on camera over his support online for Nupur Sharma — the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) former official whose derogatory remarks against Prophet Muhammad (PTUI!) earlier this month sparked global protests.

Authorities in the western city of Udaipur shut down the internet and restricted gatherings after the gory video of the attack was posted online drawing huge numbers of viewers.

Sharma, a spokeswoman for the right-wing BJP until her sacking this month, sparked a furore in the Islamic world when she made a disrespectful comment on the Prophet on a TV show.

The remarks sparked widespread protests in India and abroad, with Moslems demanding she be severely punished, and the row has since sparked violence in Udaipur.

"Both the accused in the killing have been arrested and we will ensure strict punishment and speedy justice," Ashok Gehlot, chief minister in the state of Rajasthan, where Udaipur is located, said on Twitter.

Gehlot appealed to people to stay calm and not share the video as it would "serve the attackers' motive of creating discord in society".

Rana Ayyub, an independent Indian journalist and defender of women's rights, termed the incident "triggering and most barbaric". She called upon the authorities that the perpetrators needed to be brought to book and be given the strictest punishment possible.

Another journalist, Geeta Mohan, said the "religious krazed killers" involved in the murder should be brought to book. She urged people to demonstrate patience and "let the law take its course".

According to local media, the victim was a tailor who shared a post supporting Sharma about 10 days ago and had since received death threats.

The assailants came to his shop posing as customers before attacking him with large knives.
“How dare you insult the Master Religion!”
*Stab*
*Stab*
“Die, unbeliever! Die!”
Authorities rushed additional police into Udaipur on Tuesday to counter any religious unrest.

Sharma has not been seen in public since her remarks sparked uproar and embroiled India in a diplomatic storm, with the governments of nearly 20 countries calling in Indian envoys for an explanation.

The row followed anger across the Moslem world in 2020 after French President Emmanuel Macron defended the right of a satirical magazine to publish caricatures of the Holy Prophet.

French teacher Samuel Paty was beheaded in October 2020 by a Chechen refugee after showing blasphemous cartoons to his class in a lesson on free speech.

[LB] Defenders strengthen the defense in the rear and carry out deoccupation.

by Irina Lysogor

Within the Volyn, Rivne, Zhytomyr, Chernihiv and Sumy and Odesa oblasts, the defense forces cover the state border and the sea coast, and maintain and improve the borders.

This was announced by Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksiy Gromov at a briefing.

Within the Kharkiv, Luhansk and Donetsk regions, where the fiercest fighting is taking place, our units are conducting defensive battles and deterring the offensive.

Within the Zaporozhye, Nikolaev and Kherson areas the Ukrainian military restrains the enemy who doesn't stop attempts to resume offensive.

In Kyiv and the region, the defense continues to build fortifications and create a system of visual reconnaissance and alert.

"During the week, the defense forces in the Kryvyi Rih direction liberated and took control of the settlement of Potemkino. In the Kurakhiv direction - the settlement of Pavlivka," said a spokesman for the General Staff.

Our units of missile troops and artillery hit enemy depots, bases, and equipment. Enemy losses are significant.

We will remind, the Ukrainian defenders drove out occupiers from the Snake island which was captured on February 24. With the liberation of the island, the Odessa region became completely deoccupied , as its village of Bile is located on Zmiiny.

Potemkine is a village in the Kherson region. The distance to Kherson is about 181 km.

Pavlivka is a village in the Donetsk region, Volnovakha district.

IDF nabs $2 million cocaine shipment on Egypt border
[IsraelTimes] Military says troops spotted three suspects approaching area overnight, seized 28 kg of contraband; no arrests made
At least the IDF is interfering with deliveries now...
Israeli troops foiled an attempt to smuggle over $2 million worth of cocaine into the country from Egypt early Wednesday, the military said.

According to the Israel Defense Forces, soldiers monitoring surveillance cameras spotted three suspects approaching the border from Egypt overnight, and dispatched troops to the scene.

Some 28 kilograms (61 pounds) of cocaine, estimated to be worth NIS 7 million ($2 million), was seized.

No arrests were made, according to the army.

Israel says Egyptian smugglers operate by tossing contraband over the border to Israelis, who then sell the drugs in Israel. The smugglers mostly traffic in marijuana and hashish from grow houses in the Sinai Peninsula, but sometimes harder drugs like cocaine and heroin are smuggled in as well.

Though the IDF is tasked with preventing smuggling along the Israeli-Egyptian border, the military typically strives to avoid direct confrontations with Israeli drug smugglers, leaving those to the police.

Still, several deadly encounters between Israeli troops and drug smugglers occurred last year.

Wednesday’s incident came two days after Israeli troops foiled a similar attempt, seizing 80 kilograms of cannabis with an estimated value of NIS 3 million ($867,000).

claims Mohammed Marei as member; 13 wanted Paleostinians detained across West Bank

A Paleostinian man was reportedly rubbed out during festivities with Israeli forces who were conducting an arrest raid early Wednesday in Jenin.

According to the Israel Defense Forces, troops entered the northern West Bank city to detain two wanted Paleostinians.

"During the operation, IDF forces fired at several suspects who hurled bombs at them, and shooting was also heard in the area," the IDF said, adding that "hits were identified."

Paleostinian media reported that the man, Mohammed Maher Marei, died of his wounds shortly after being shot. The Paleostinian Islamic Jihad later claimed Marei as a member and images showed his body wrapped in the flag of the terror group.

Elsewhere in the West Bank, the IDF said troops fired at a Paleostinian who hurled stones at forces during the arrest of a wanted Paleostinian in the al-’Azza refugee camp near Bethlehem. A rifle was also seized in the camp, the IDF said.

In total, 13 Paleostinians suspected of "terror activities" were detained overnight, the military said.

Czech Republic to extend coal mining amid high demand
A pragmatic decision that will increase resilience... and further decrease Russia’s influence going forward. Also that of the woke Climate lobby, an equally Good Thing.
[AlAhram] The Czech Republic has decided to reverse plans to halt mining in a key black coal region to help the country safeguard its power supply amid high demand and the energy crunch prompted by the Russia's war in Ukraine.

Finance Minister Zbynek Stanjura said Thursday that the state-owned OKD company will extend its mining activities in north-eastern Czech Republic until at least the end of next year, with an analysis to be made on a possible further extension until 2025.

The original plans called for mining to be halted there this year, but ``demand for black coal is enormous,'' Stanjura said.

Some other European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
countries are turning back to coal as a replacement for reduced deliveries of Russian natural gas, threatening climate goals in Europe. Russia has trimmed gas flows to EU countries like Germany, Italia and Austria on top of its gas cutoffs to La Belle France, Poland, Bulgaria and others.

OKD's chief executive, Roman Sikora, said the Czech company was planning to mine 1.3 million metric tons of black coal in 2023.

It will be mostly used for generating power and household heating. Coal-fired power plants generate almost 50% of total Czech electricity output.

The decision came after the European Union agreed to ban Russian coal starting in August over the war in Ukraine and as it works to reduce the bloc's energy ties to Russia.

The Czech government aims to phase out coal in energy production by 2033 while increasing the country's reliance on nuclear power.

Establishing ‘Arab NATO’ is not possible at current stage: Egypt’s FM
[AlAhram] Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry stated on Wednesday that establishing an Arab military alliance akin to the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO
...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. It's headquartered in Belgium. That sez it all....
) is not possible and would not be proposed..

Like NATO would be ineffective without America, an Arab NATO would be just another talk shop without Israel —distressing though it is for certain parties to contemplate. Better nothing official than that.
Shoukry’s remarks came in a joint presser Wednesday with Bahraini Foreign Minister Abdullatif bin Rashid Alzayani on the sidelines of President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi’s two-day visit to Bahrain.

In the past few days, speculation regarding the creation of an "Arab NATO" involving US-sponsored Arab-Israeli security cooperation has widely circulated in advance of US President Joe The Big Guy Biden
...46th president of the U.S. You're a lyin' dog-faced pony soldier. Of course Corn Pop is a real person....
’s visit to the region in mid-July.

Though Shoukry ruled out the idea of creating an Arab NATO at the current stage, he stressed the importance of reinforcing joint Arab action, according to the Bahraini daily Akhbar-Alkhaleej.

"We are confident that our joint capabilities are great and capable of protecting Arab national security interests against any interference from outside the Arab region," the Bahraini newspaper quoted Shoukry as saying.
No doubt.
The top Egyptian diplomat stressed, "we have an interest in continuing consultations and coordination at the level of relevant leaderships and agencies to maximise benefit from cooperation among us in all fields [including] political, economic and security, because we have a common history and destiny that must be preserved."

In an interview with to CNBC earlier this week, Jordan's King Abdullah II said he believed a Middle Eastern military alliance could be built with like-minded countries, stressing that the vision of such an alliance must be very clear.
“We’ll be in charge, and someone else will do the work.”
The remarks come nearly two weeks before the upcoming Gulf Cooperation Council+3 Summit which will be chaired by Saudi Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. Fifteen of the nineteen WTC hijackers were Saudis, and most major jihadi commanders were Saudis, to include Osama bin Laden. Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman quietly folded that tent in 2016, doing terrible things to the guys running it, and has since been dragging the kingdom into the current century...
on 16 June.

The summit will host the heads of state of the GCC countries, the leaders of Egypt, Jordan and Iraq, as well as US President Joe Biden, who will be making his first tour in the Middle East by visiting Saudi Arabia, Israel and the West Bank.
It doesn’t sound like Israel will participate, but they have an election to deal with.

Government Corruption
DOJ Has VA Suspend All Benefits of Jan. 6 Prisoner
[ET vias Conservative Daily] ’This is what you have when vindictive leftists get in charge of major parts of the government’: Rep. Gohmert

Just when the wife of one incarcerated Jan. 6 prisoner believed things couldn’t get worse, the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) informed her they are going to suspend all of her husband’s benefits. According to United States Representative Louie Gohmert (R-Texas), "this is what you have when vindictive leftists get in charge of major parts of the government."

In an unsigned letter from the VA—dated June 13 and appearing to originate from the "Director Regional Office,"—Angel and Kenneth Harrelson were notified that the administration "received information from the United States Department of Justice" that Kenneth had been "indicted and charged with Seditious Conspiracy (18 U.S.C 2384)."

Page 1 of the unsigned letter received by Angel and Kenneth Harrelson from the "Director Regional Office" "informing them that their Veterans Benefits are being suspended due to 38 U.S. Code § 6105 — Forfeiture for subversive activities, which requires that an individual be "convicted" of a listed crime, not "indicted." (Courtesy of Angel Harrelson)

The letter further noted that: "Pursuant to 38 U.S. Code § 6105(a)"—Forfeiture for subversive activities—"after receiving notice of an indictment for the above offense" the "VA must suspend payment of gratuitous benefits pending disposition of the criminal proceedings. If convicted, gratuitous benefits are forfeited, automatically, from and after the date of the offense."

The "date of the offense" is Jan. 6, 2021.

"Based on the information above," the VA further informed the Harrelsons that they "propose to suspend" their "compensation benefit payments effective September 1, 2022, which is the first day of the month following a 60-day due process period."

Check out 38 USC 6105(c) which I suspect is causing this issue.

Para (a) says "convicted" as does para (c) but then is followed by a notification requirement for both "indicted or convicted."

As I read the statute, only a conviction can result in a suspension of benefits. Somebody is misreading the statute and hasn't made the proper differentiation between the notification clause [para (c)] and suspension requirements [para (a)].

Gunmen blow up bridge on key road in Burkina Faso
[AlAhram] Gunmen in Burkina Faso
...The country in west Africa that they put where Upper Volta used to be. Its capital is Oogadooga, or something like that. Its president is currently Blaise Compaoré, who took office in 1987 and will leave office feet first, one way or the other...
have blown up a bridge on a main road connecting the capital to the north of the country, a security source said Thursday.

The incident in the night of Wednesday to Thursday comes as Burkina Faso battles a deadly jihadist insurgency that has seen murderous Moslems block access to several thoroughfares and towns in the north and east of the country.

The blast hit a bridge on the road connecting the towns of Kaya and Dori, the security source said.

"The Nare bridge has suffered grave damage after being blown up by unidentified gunnies," the source said.

"A long line of trucks has formed since this morning on either side of the sabotaged structure," he added.

"But everything is being done to ensure they can cross" and security forces have been deployed to the area.

A resident in Kaya, who asked to remain anonymous, said trucks that had left his town hoping to reach Dori had had to turn back.

"Travellers had to cross on foot then get into vehicles on the other side" to continue their journey onwards, he said.

Jihadists have already succeeded in preventing access to another key axis in the north of the country, running from the town of Ouahigouya eastwards to Dori. A road joining it from Kongoussi to the south is also under their control.

The town of Titao on the first road, as well as the eastern district of Madjoari are also under de-facto jihadist blockade.

Political analyst Drissa Traore said it was all part of a "skillfully orchestrated plan by the terrorist groups".

They want "to isolate communities and scupper attempts to bring these districts supplies on the one hand, and on the other make it difficult for these areas to be evacuated to make way for any military operation" against them, he said.

One of the world's poorest countries, Burkina Faso has been shaken by jihadist raids since 2015, with the movements linked to al-Qaeda and the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group.

More than 2,000 people have been killed and 1.8 million displaced.

The authorities in Burkina Faso only control 60 percent of the country, West Africa's mediator for the country said earlier this month.

Lieutenant Colonel Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba overthrew elected president Roch Marc Christian Kabore in January after unrest over his predecessor's alleged inability to quell the jihadist violence.
It doesn’t look like that’s working well. Is it time for another coup?

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
3 Israelis, including IDF commander, lightly hurt in armed clashes at Joseph’s Tomb
[IsraelTimes] Military says Paleostinians directed ’massive gunfire’ at worshipers who came to pray at Jewish shrine in northern West Bank; Col. Roy Zweig taken to hospital with shrapnel wound

Paleostinian button men opened fire during festivities with Israeli troops guarding worshipers at a Jewish shrine in West Bank early Thursday, lightly wounding three Israelis, including a senior officer.

The festivities erupted as hundreds of Jewish worshipers under military escort arrived to pray at Joseph’s Tomb on the outskirts of Nablus. According to the Israel Defense Forces, armed Paleostinians directed "massive gunfire" at the compound.

"IDF soldiers returned fire toward the source of the shooting," a statement from the military said.

Among the injured Israelis was Col. Roy Zweig, who heads the Samaria Regional Brigade in the northern West Bank. The military said he was taken to a hospital to be treated for a likely shrapnel wound.

The other two Israelis who were hurt are civilians.

The Israel Defense Forces said troops evacuated all the worshipers from Nablus.

In videos shared on social media, gunshots could be heard as worshipers huddled in the courtyard of the shrine.

The Paleostinian Islamic Jihad
...created after many members of the Egyptian Moslem Brotherhood decided the organization was becoming too moderate. Operations were conducted out of Egypt until 1981 when the group was exiled after the assassination of President Anwar Sadat. They worked out of Gaza until they were exiled to Lebanon in 1987, where they clove tightly to Hezbollah. In 1989 they moved to Damascus, where they remain a subsidiary of Hezbollah...
terror group later grabbed credit for the shooting, saying it came in response to the death of a member amid a clash with IDF troops a day earlier in Jenin.

"We affirm that we will remain highly prepared to confront the occupation forces and their crimes against our people, our land, and our holy sites," it said in a statement.

"We won’t relinquish our grip on Joseph’s Tomb," said Samaria Regional Council chief Yossi Dagan, who was at Joseph’s Tomb during the festivities.

Jewish pilgrimages to Joseph’s Tomb are usually allowed only once a month under heavy security. During these visits, Paleostinians routinely throw rocks at the troops, and frequently attack them with Molotov cocktails and gunfire.

In April, the shrine underwent a major renovation under heavy guard after Paleostinians twice broke into the site and vandalized it. Zweig, the commander maimed early Thursday, made headlines at the time after ignoring IDF Central Command chief Yehuda Fuchs’s orders not to invite news hounds to accompany the soldiers and settlers repairing the site.
An Nahar adds:
Palestinian gunmen opened fire at Jewish worshipers on Thursday at a flashpoint holy site in the occupied West Bank, wounding an Israeli military officer and two civilians, the Israeli army said.

The Palestinian official news agency Wafa said a Palestinian teenager was wounded by live fire and 16 others by rubber bullets in clashes with Israeli forces at the site.

'Mystery rocket' that crashed into the Moon baffles NASA scientists
[CHRON] A mysterious rocket crashed into the moon on March 4, leaving behind a 'double crater,' NASA reported.

A mysterious rocket crashed into the moon on March 4, leaving behind a 'double crater,' NASA reported.

NASA has discovered the crash site of a "mystery rocket body" that collided with the Moon's surface earlier this year. The impact left behind a widespread "double crater," meaning it wasn't the average rocket.

However, since its crash landing, none of Earth's space-exploring nations have claimed responsibility for the mysterious projectile, leaving NASA scientists baffled as to who was behind its launch. New images shared on June 24 by NASA's Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter show the unusual impact site.
Failed Sino Lunar Orbital (perhaps manned) Mission?
"Surprisingly the crater is actually two craters, an eastern crater (18-meter diameter, about 19.5 yards) superimposed on a western crater (16-meter diameter, about 17.5 yards," NASA reported. "The double crater was unexpected...No other rocket body impacts on the Moon created double craters."

Astronomers anticipated the crash after spotting the unidentified rocket on a collision course with the Moon late last year. It finally hit on March 4 near the Hertzsprung crater, a "complex" impact crater on the far side of the Moon.

NASA stated that the two large masses on each end of the rocket may have caused the craters, but noted that the impact marks are highly unusual. Spent rockets, according to NASA, tend to have a heavy motor at one end and a lighter empty fuel tank on the other, scientists say. The space agency did not offer any guesses on what the additional mass was.

"Since the origin of the rocket body remains uncertain, the double nature of the crater may indicate its identity," NASA said in a news release.

Astronomers anticipated the crash after spotting the unidentified rocket on a collision course with the Moon late last year. It finally hit on March 4 near the Hertzsprung crater, a "complex" impact crater on the far side of the Moon.
Deceased Astronauts? Craft then programmed to crash beyond Earth's prying eyes? (Sats usually don't have the necessary optical resolution, nor will anyone be visiting this site anytime soon)
At least 47 NASA rocket bodies have created "spacecraft impacts" on the moon, according to 2016 data from Arizona State University. Four large moon craters attributed to Apollo 13, 14, 15 and 17 missions are substantially larger than each of the overlapping craters created by the March 4 impact, according to NASA. However, scientists said the maximum width of the new double crater is near that of the Apollo craters.

#3  Apollo 11 - 102 meters
Minuteman III - 18.21 meters
Satan / Sarmat - 35.5 meters

A ballistic missile is by definition a sub-orbital rocket. Several ICBM boosters have been re-purposed to provide orbital capability, the Atlas, Titan and Peacekeeper most successfully.

Much of the burn time for an intra lunar flight occurs in total vacuum. While solid rocket fuel has oxidizer incorporated in the design, it's unlikely you'd choose solid fuel for such a mission profile.

Chicago man pleads guilty to illegally exporting US technology to Iran
[IsraelTimes] Kambiz Attar Kashani acted on orders from Central Bank of Iran, used two United Arab Emirates companies to evade sanctions; faces up to 20 years in prison
A strong Chicago name
A dual US-Iranian citizen has pleaded guilty in a federal court in Brooklyn of conspiring to illegally export US goods, technologies and services to the government of Iran.

Kambiz Attar Kashani, 44, violated the International Emergency Economic Powers Act by obtaining these items from US companies without necessary licensing or approval from the US Treasury Department.

He faces up to 20 years in prison and has already agreed to pay a $50,000 fine.

According to the US Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York, Kashan acted at the direction of a department within the Central Bank of Iran, which is under Treasury Department sanctions over its alleged support for terror.

In a statement, the attorney’s office said that between February 2019 and June 2021 Kashani and his co-conspirators used two United Arab Emirates companies to evade US export laws "by procuring electronic goods, technology, and services from US technology companies for end users in Iran
...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites....
including the Government of Iran."

They acted "without obtaining required licenses or other authorization from the US Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control," it said.

The statement did not name Kashani’s accomplices.

Kashan was arrested in reliably Democrat Chicago, aka The Windy City or Mobtown
...home of Al Capone, the Chicago Black Sox, a succession of Daleys, Barak Obama, and Rahm Emmanuel...
last January.
Cyber News adds:
Kashani volunteered to pay the $50,000 fine and forfeit profits from the illicit venture, but still faces up to 20 years in prison. A federal district court judge in New York will determine his exact sentence after reviewing statutory guidelines.

Satellite images of Zmeiny Island 06/29/2022
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[ColonelCassad] Satellite images of Zmeiny Island from June 29 after the withdrawal of the Russian garrison. There are traces of strikes from last week, where one Pantsir air defense missile system was declared destroyed. Some property is smoking on the pier, which was destroyed before leaving. Also, some dilapidated house is smoking from among those that did not break during the May battles.

In Ukraine, they say they want to establish physical control over the island, but everything seems to be limited to demonstrative events with the landing of small troops by boats or helicopters, the raising of the flag and photographs. Obviously, if you try to linger on the island, missile attacks on the island will follow, if Ukraine does not have the ability to cover the island from the air.

It is also worth noting that the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine announces the transfer of artillery systems and MLRS, with the help of which they fired on Zmeiny in the Donbass, in order to deter the advance of Russian troops on Artemovsk and Slavyansk.
Click on the link to see photos of the island

From Russian military blogger Andrey Chervonets:

The price of a "goodwill gesture"

After the surrender of With a high degree of probability, it can be expected that the Ukrainian Armed Forces will begin, if they have not already begun, the operational transfer of formations and military units to the east. That is, everything that shot and flew in the area of about. Zmeiny Island will soon be on the land front.

And this is at least:

- 2 divisions of the Smerch MLRS,
- 2-3 Himars batteries
- up to the M777 division
- up to the Bayraktarov squadron
- the Buk air defense division
- as well as engineering and other support units.

In addition, now up to two mechanized brigades (one of them - marines) can be transferred from the ODESSA region to the east, up to the TerO brigade (4-5 rifle battalions and one mechanized battalion), and others (including artillery ) parts.

The flight resource of manned aviation, which was involved by the Armed Forces of Ukraine in operations in the area of about. Zmeiny Island, will now also be used east. Most likely - in the Nikolaevsky direction.

And you continue to make "gestures of good will." After the first two such "gestures" many flinched. I'm afraid to imagine a third.

More from Chervonets:
Criminal "goodwill gestures"

What kind of anecdote is this? The wording is especially impressive; Do they write them on purpose to annoy people?

"Russia, as a gesture of goodwill, withdrew its troops from Zmeiny Island, thereby demonstrating to the world community that the Russian Federation does not interfere with the efforts of the UN to organize a humanitarian corridor for the export of agricultural products from the territory of Ukraine"

"The Russians staunchly defended Gostomel and retreated. They fought heroically on Zmeiny Island and left on command. Why? failures in our time hit the army and the state more than the failures of the military itself.

(c) Alexander Zhuchkovsky

"I tried to imagine that all this was voiced by the voice of Yuri Levitan. Well, that's how we remember from childhood from films and programs

" From the Soviet Information Bureau ... Today, as a step of goodwill, the military completed the tasks and as a gesture of good Will left the city of Odessa. Now the Romanian sources of oil for the German army can be safe.

Did not work out. It didn’t introduce itself. "

(c) from Andrey Medvedev's TG

Yes, Levitan announced the abandonment of cities and the blockade. But not as a matter of good will.

Control over Zmeiny Island held back supplies through Moldova and gave some kind of control over the port of Odessa. Now, to stop supplies, the only option is one is to drown everything that will float there, but naturally no one will do this.

More important is not even the fact that the island was left. The crisis and global, the whole scale of the disaster is in a completely different place. Even in an uncut form (with clarifications about grain), the wording of the Ministry of Defense testifies to a deep crisis and even the absence of adequate information and explanatory work. At the same time, Konashenkov is engaged in an appeal to the world community, only for what, when this world community is engaged in arming the Ukrainian army?
Konashenkov is a reference to Russian Ministry of Defense Maj. Gen. Igor Konashenkov.
The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation justifies this by preserving equipment and personnel. At the same time, burn the equipment that was previously heroically transported to the island?

This is genius. And this is after all the ups and downs associated with this island. Normal plan. In the same way, troops were withdrawn from three regions of Ukraine. The next step is the opening of shipping, so that dear Western partners can export grain and supply weapons in an order of magnitude larger volumes of saloreihu.

According to this logic, it is possible to withdraw troops from Ukraine in order to prevent the loss of personnel and equipment. That's it, bring me the epaulettes of the marshals and transfer the salary. If so, then this is a black irony.

Let me remind you: the phrase "step of good will" explodes public consciousness for the second time. The first time was when in Istanbul, against the backdrop of a fallen microphone, they announced our departure from Kyiv with surprising awkwardness. The second time - today about Zmeiny Island. Who is this brilliant writer? And it’s scary to think what will be the third such step?

Zaporozhye and Kherson? Maybe we will leave them as a "gesture of good will"? (black irony, if anything, but in reality I don’t rule out such a decision). And although the people in these former regions of Ukraine are definitely not hostile, but so far the presence of the RF Armed Forces is perceived with caution. It is understandable - according to the "gesture of good will" the Bandera people can return there again.

The people are ready to endure inconvenience, some deprivation. But he is not ready to endure deceit, lies, silence (and in the 21st century you will not be silent), he is afraid of betrayal, as was the case in the 90s, and hates such "goodwill gestures."

And once again I will touch on an important topic, the topic of information confrontation. Here, with a very small number of actual victories, the team of "Quarter-95" competently does the heating pad of the Russian military information field like an ace.

The head of propaganda in the Ministry of Defense and adviser to Shoigu, a certain Ilnitsky, by the way, a native of Lviv, declares that we need to "not fall into the information war, where they have more resources", that is, in fact, offers not to appear on it. In my humble opinion, Ilnitsky simply retouches his incompetence, his failure in his position, justifies his inaction. Inaction, again in my humble opinion, is criminal in a military situation.

And all sorts of statements by various karnaukhs on the topic: "Who are you to report to you," and "Criticize, but in silence," I personally also consider criminal. You have to be educable.

P.S.
The main reason was the lack of reconnaissance and target designation equipment of the operational-tactical link in the arsenal of the fleet and the Aerospace Forces, which would allow effective targeting of aircraft and "Caliber". Like, for example, the UAV MQ-9 Reaper.

Yet, again, more from Chervonets:
Can't play giveaway

"Gestures of good will" are ALWAYS perceived by the enemy as weakness. It's an axiom.

I don't really understand why we need to show some gestures of good will to the world community when the world community shows us only goat faces. DO NOT play giveaway.

Important was written by the military commander Alexander Kots on this topic:

I don’t understand why the image of a knight on a white horse is molded from the Russian army. Who will appreciate this image? Those who are for the RF Armed Forces will not turn away from them in any case. Those who are against cannot be persuaded.

Here, a letter came from the mother of a dead Russian soldier. Read to the end.

“My son died on March 28 in Malaya Rogan. There was no longer any hope, but on June 4 we were informed that there was an exchange and he was among them.

On June 10, we buried our son - a hero. He did not run away, did not leave the wounded, he was not even wounded, but he was not given a chance to live. He and two of his subordinates were shot on the spot. This was already told to us by his commander, who was taken prisoner and then exchanged.

For our family, as well as for many such grief-stricken families, the main thing now is that the death of our sons is not in vain.

Libya: Twenty migrants 'die of thirst' in desert, 30 more missing in Mediterranean
[DW] The bodies of 20 migrants colonists have been discovered in the Libyan desert. In a separate incident, a rubber dinghy sank in the Mediterranean with at least 30 people on board.

Libyan rescue services have recovered the bodies of 20 people in the desert near the border with Chad. The dear departed were believed to have been migrants colonists and were found around a black pickup truck about 320 kilometers (200 miles) southwest of Kufra, according to the district ambulance service.

Moslem colonists Migrants 'died of thirst'

Rescue services said they "recovered 20 bodies found in the desert after their vehicle broke down." In a statement, the service said the vehicle traveled from Chad and was about 120 kilometers inside Libyan territory. "They all died of thirst," the statement said of the people in the truck.

The bodies were discovered by a truck driver who had been traveling through the desert.

"The driver got lost ... and we believe the group died in the desert about 14 days ago since the last call on a mobile phone there was on June 13," Kufra ambulance chief Ibrahim Belhasan told the Rooters news agency by phone.

THIRTY MISSING AFTER RUBBER DINGHY SINKS
In a separate incident that took place off the coast of Libya, a rubber dinghy sank with 30 people on board, including women and kiddies.

On Wednesday, Doctors Without Borders, also known by the French initials MSF, reported that the vessel went down on the perilous central Mediterranean Sea route.

A rescue ship operated by the organization managed to reach the stricken boat, and dozens of people were rescued. Five women and eight children are among the missing people, and are presumed dead.

Human traffickers have managed to benefit from the instability in Libya, with criminal syndicates trafficking thousands of people along deadly routes in the Mediterranean.

MOSLEM COLONISTS MIGRANTS FACE DEADLY SEA ROUTES AND ABUSE
According to the Missing Moslem colonists Migrants Project, which documents deaths and disappearances of people attempting to migrate, 24,234 people have gone missing since 2014 in the Mediterranean alone.

The perils of the sea are not the only challenges facing migrants colonists.

Rights organizations and the UN have documented instances of abuse, including reports of rape and torture, for migrants colonists who wind up in Libyan detention facilities.

A fact-finding mission report commissioned by the UN will present its findings to the UN Human Rights Council next week.

According to the Independent Fact-Finding Mission on Libya, Sherlocks say migrants colonists held in detention face "acts of murder, torture, rape and other inhumane acts."

Egypt warns Iran not to target Israelis on its soil — report
[IsraelTimes] Citing anonymous sources, al-Arabi al-Jadeed says Cairo informed Tehran it demands to be kept out of the Israeli-Iranian shadow war

Egyptian security officials warned Iran
...Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979...
not to operate on Egyptian soil to target Israelis, days after The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire...
and Israel apparently thwarted attempts to target Israeli civilians in Ottoman Turkish territory, according to a report Wednesday in the Qatar
...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates. Home of nutbag holy manYusuf al-Qaradawi...
-backed daily al-Arabi al-Jadeed.

"Egyptian officials informed their Iranian counterparts that Egypt will not accept the involvement of its security reputation in the ongoing conflict between Tel Aviv and Tehran," the report said.

The officials reportedly added that Cairo has in the past declined to join Israel or other regional actors in their shadow war against Iran.

According to the report, Israel informed Egypt that Iran had begun to consider targeting Israeli citizens there, after collaboration between Israeli and Ottoman Turkish intelligence prevented attacks on Ottoman Turkish soil.

Iran and Israel have been engaged in a years-long shadow war, but tensions have ratcheted up in recent months following a string of high-profile incidents Tehran has blamed on Israel. Jerusalem, as is common practice, neither confirms nor denies its involvement in most of the incidents.

Israel warned its citizens not to travel to Turkey in mid-June, fearing Iranian retribution. According to senior Israeli officials, significant intelligence had indicated that Iran was seeking to carry out attacks against Israeli tourists in the country to avenge a series of killings and strikes on Iranian military and nuclear targets that have been attributed to the Jewish state.

In rare public announcements, Israeli officials publicly urged Israelis in Istanbul to lock their hotel rooms at night and avoid strangers. At times, the security establishment even declared that an operation to capture Israelis had started.

On Tuesday, Israel eased the elevated travel warning, returning it to Level 3, or moderate. Prime Minister Naftali Bennett thanked Ottoman Turkish President His Enormity, Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First
...Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him. It's a sin, a shame, and a felony to insult the president of Turkey. In Anatolia did Recep Bey a stately Presidential Palace decree, that has 1100 rooms. That's 968 more than there are in the White House, 400 more than in Versailles, and 325 more than Buckingham Palace, so you know who's really most important...
and Turkey’s security forces for foiling attempts by Iran to attack Israeli travelers.

"Our activities were successful, and succeeded in protecting human life," said Bennett. "We will gradually return to normal."

Caucasus/Russia/Central Asia
War in Ukraine. Summary 06/30/2022
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[ColonelCassad] 1. Lisichansk.
Fighting in Lisichansk itself, in Privolye, Verkhnekamenka, on the outskirts of Volcheyarovka and beyond Belaya Gora. The battles for Zolotarevka, Disputed and Verkhnekamensk began.

The enemy is trying to hold the corridor through Belogorovka to Seversk in order to be able to move away from Lisichansk. The grouping continues to remain in the operational environment, but there is no full-fledged boiler yet - one more road remains to be cut.

2. Soledar.
Fights near Nikolayevka, in Berestovoye and Belogorovka. The enemy began to fortify the chain of settlements between Soledar and Seversk, where he expects to delay the advance of our troops after the fall of Lisichansk.

3. Artemovsk.
Our troops are slowly advancing in Klinovoe. The enemy's defense in Pokrovsky is holding. The enemy began to prepare for the defense of the outskirts of Artemovsk, expecting the imminent start of battles for the city.

Our troops are stepping up pressure on Kodema and Semigorye in order to cut off the group defending the Uglegorsk TPP and Novolugansk.

In Ukraine, they say that they will transfer reinforcements to the Donbass to keep the situation in this direction.

4. Slavyansk.
It is reported about the capture of Sidorovo and Bogorodichny. The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine denies the loss of Bogorodichny and states that he still controls part of the village. According to Sidorov, the situation is still unclear. If the village is taken, then this means the imminent start of battles for Mayaki north of the outskirts of Slavyansk.

On the Izyum direction without significant changes - there is no advance in the area of Dolina and Krasnopolye.

5. Kharkov.
Against the backdrop of ongoing systematic attacks in the area of Kharkov and Chuguev, after the occupation of Dementyevka, the RF Armed Forces are stepping up pressure near Verkhny Saltov, Tsupovka and the village of Udy.
The processing of the Zolochevsky fortified area continues. It is also worth noting the Tu-141 Strizh UAV flying in the direction of Kursk, which was probably trying to identify the capabilities of Russian air defense systems before possible strikes in the Kursk region using OTRK and American MLRS.

6. Avdievka.
No major changes. Fighting, as before, is taking place near the Avdievka-Konstantinovka highway. There is no serious progress in the direction of Ochertino and Krasnogorovka. New York has no significant changes so far.

7. Zaporozhye.
On the line Kamenskoye-Orekhov-Gulyaipole-Velikaya Novoselovka without significant changes. Positional fights. It is worth noting that the head of the DPR, Pushilin, after the exchange of prisoners of war in the Zaporozhye region in the Kamensky region, announced the continuation of negotiations on a further exchange of prisoners of war, which will probably also be held in the Zaporozhye region.

8. Nikolaev.
Positional battles in the Nikolaev, Krivoy Rog and Nikopol directions. The enemy claims that he was able to repel the attacks of the RF Armed Forces in the Potemkino area and keep the village behind him.

The RF Armed Forces continue to strike at headquarters and concentrations of troops in the Nikolaev region.

9. Odessa.
The Russian Armed Forces left Zmeiny Island due to increased artillery and rocket attacks.

Ukraine stated that it would establish control over the island, but later stated that conditions for this still needed to be created, fearing that when landing on the island, Ukrainian forces would already become a target for missile strikes.

Politically, the departure from Zmiinoye is linked to the unblocking of grain exports from Ukrainian ports as part of the negotiations that have been going on in Turkey since May. Linking the Serpentine issue with the issue of cargo transit to Kaliningrad has not yet been officially confirmed.

10. Ugledar, Marinka, Izyum - no significant changes.

How Bangladeshi migrants end up in Cyprus
[DW] Many Bangladeshis who come to Cyprus hoping to find work end up in refugee camps in the EU country. They blame human traffickers for their ill fate.
If they’re migrant workers, they have no business in refugee camps.
Two Bangladeshi migrants colonists were desperately waiting at the main gate leading to the Pournara migrant reception camp outside Nicosia, the capital of the Republic of Cyprus, last week, hoping to gain entry into the already-overcrowded camp. The two men — in their 20s — looked exhausted and afraid. One of them, 24-year-old Salim Hossain, told DW that the authorities denied them entry into the camp due to a lack of documents.

"We don't have any passports. A Bangladeshi human trafficker has taken them from us in North Cyprus before sending us to the southern part of the island," Hossain said.
