#2 Maybe, g(r)omgoru. But what often happens when wolves fight is that a more powerful alpha emerges, leading a bigger tougher pack. Egypt's current leadership is awful. The Brotherhood in power would be worse, I suspect.

But no good outcomes are likely in any case.

#5 It has the same people running it now as were running it back when it was the Soviet Union. And somehow I doubt Hezbollah was paying retail for all the East-Bloc artillery rockets they have an endless supply of.

And Russia can make a lot of money giving weapons away to the Syrian/Iranian axis to start a war in the Middle East and therefore making money off of the resulting rise in oil prices.

Providing free weapons to a Brotherhood--run Egyptian regime would pay for itself if the result was a shutdown of the Suez Canal at just the right moment.

#7 And Russia sells to Iran in hopes that Iran will start an armed conflict that will result in closer of the straits of Hormuz or otherwise raise the price of oil.

Being able to close the Suez Canal would also be economically beneficial.

Russia produces 4.4 million barrels of oil a day. 70% of it is exported.

Increacing the price of oil from $ 50/bbl to $ 120/bbl (which is a very conservative estimate of what I think the price increace would be) would be worth...

$ 70.00 * .7 * 4400000 = 215 MILLION dollars a day.

Which means they could give Egyptian Hezbollah three billion dollars a month in free weapons and still come out three billion dollars a month AHEAD.
