#2 ..eventually. The sun as it ages will expand and consume the inner planets which is another reason to get off this rock to preserve life.

What do you mean the Earth is not a closed system? Sure it is! You just have to ignore the Sun, the Moon, the solar wind, cosmic rays, the Earth's own outgoing long-wave radiation, and the occasional comet or asteroid. Other than that, it's a totally closed system.

Consider a spherical Earth...
