#5 I think P2K has the right of it. I am the only registered Repub in town, or so the poll workers announce (loudly) every time I vote. Yet everyone in the neighborhood is very down on where the Dems stand at the moment. They are disconnected from the present Dem political positions, and seem to be adrift. Maybe it is because they all work hard every day. Very different from a Bernie bro.

#6 the NYTimes didn't cover the race much at all and thus the turnout from the establishment left was probably pretty low allowing the insurgent left and hispanic identity groups to win (hispanics are about 50% of the population of the district).
